EVERY game will be a grind if you pull the ‘OMG I need it now argument’. Try playing the game without trying to rush through everything in one day.

I haven’t even started looking at crafting yet and the patch has been out for most of a week. I’ll start by slowly doing the normal world activities and level it gradually, while continuing to play the game as I normally would do. No grind at all for me.

WRONG! This is a grind and the manifesto died along with the introduction of ascended gear in general. Before that, you could buy best in class from the TP. That meant people could play the way they wanted. Now they have to play a very specific way in order to get the components they want. Unfortunately, GW2 is transforming into the typical MMO.

There are 5 easy to reach chests in Wayfarer Foothills as well (jumping puzzle, 2 Jotun caves, 2 Svanir caves).

I’ve noticed the Jotun chest in the potato farm doesn’t give shards. Strike one from that list.

There is only one real fix to this…. points are awarded based on the number of people on a map. In other words…

Server 1 has 70 people
Server 2 has 30 people
Server 3 has 20 people

Holding a camp/tower/keep would be worth the most points to server 3. Server 2 would get more points than server 1 but less than server 3.

Agreed with OP. Let’s be honest around The “Gold” NA league.

The top three servers are set already. No other server will beat them.
TC is 4th. That is pretty much a given.
DB and FA will fight for 5 and 6.
7-13. They will just be taking a beating most weeks from one of or more than one of the top 6.

This is not a solution for GvG, this is a bandaid. I think it is a fine feature to cool the whining going on but they need to divorce WvW and GvG completely as the communities identifiable to either are becoming intolerable.

I don’t like the idea of people being able to turn the buff on or off whenever they want.

Either:
1. Always keep it on when the server earns it
2. Allow the player to remove the buff and it stays off until the next daily reset.

I agree with oZii. You can’t create one list. That said, I don’t think you need as many lists as he mentioned. Really it comes down to 2.

These are the good classes for zerging. The others aren’t very important in this regard. No particular order.

I didn’t mention ranger. That is average in both areas. Their biggest value in a zerg is their healing spring.

Spirit of Nature heals the ENTIRE party for 480 (That is 2400 hp/s!) It also revives fallen allies and cures conditions and now with reduced cool-down it is one of the best elites in the game!

Along with easy Stealth, lots of protection and many evades and passive condition removal isn’t this a bit too much healing?

Lol. Yes, I am sure ANET is trying to figure out ways to nerf the ranger even more. And no, it isn’t OP at all. If anything it is weak given the current state of rangers.

BM bunker build is still strong to the point I switched specs out of boredom. These boards are so far off when it comes to the current state of the ranger… but then again so is every class board.

I don’t doubt you’re right, but perhaps you could enlighten us (or at least me) about the “current state of the ranger”, rather than just saying everyone’s wrong. I’m not attacking you, just very interested in what is actually going on beneath the public despair.

Current state of the ranger is that we’re still strong in PvP with multiple viable builds (spirit ranger, BM bunker, and traps). Most of those same builds are good for WvW roaming, and we can also support zergs from the backline with ranged pets and longbow.

It’s only in late-game PvE where we’re openly considered weak, mostly due to conditions being weaker in PvE and our reliance on the terribad AI of our pets. That and the gratuitous AoE damage that is tossed around in PvE as neither our pets nor our spirits have any detection or resistance to the AoEs.

That’s basically the state of the ranger in a nutshell.

I wouldn’t say strong. I don’t really see many rangers in solo queue at least anymore. The ones who do play are usually one of the first to die.

I’m sure there are a lot of good rangers, but it is probably their own skills overcoming a weak class.

Personally, I’d like to see an option that will allow you to convert essence of luck to either karma or skill points. Afterall, karma drops got nerfed with the addition of luck to the daily/monthly rewards.

This class needs BUFFS not NERFS. How many top players do you see running warriors?

How does a class go from zero to hero because of ONE extra second of stun on mace and higher passive heal that not everyone even uses.

I mean how do you NOT counter one. MS/GS? He is OBVIOUSLY going to be constantly trying to set up his 100 blades. You have stun breaks….use them when he uses 100blades,dont use it when he shield bashes you and follows it up with auto attack. You guys do know that shield bash and mace auto attack will deal all of 5 damage right? Wait what? You have no stun breaks? Why are you 1v1ing a STUNto100blades warrior without stun breaks? Oh your not specced to counter a warrior because it’s tpvp? Then what are your teammates doing while the warrior is doing a 1hour dance recital in your face….rooted? No one wants to interrupt him? Then your team is bad.

Even then….EVEN THEN, you can not be “locked” and die without being able to use a single skill. There are small breaks in between for you to counter/escape. After the mace stun, it takes another almost8 seconds to use again. Let’s say you eat the 100blades, you have a 4 second window before the only cc skill he has available to him now is…well available, oh and did I mention that that stun skill he has is also the hardest to land? It doesn’t lock nor have range.

Anything that is NOT GS lacks burst and you can afford to be “locked” and still win. Tpvp? One word…Teammates.

Don’t get me wrong, stunnlock build isn’t bad, but if it were truly op why wouldn’t the top tier teams ALL be running them? In fact none to one are.

This class needs BUFFS not NERFS. If you takeaway the only potentially viable build they have, you truly are making this class worthless. Why nerf a class that’s already on the bottom of the food chain?

Note: I mained a ranger and main a mesmer right now.

Very. It is hard to balance across PvE, PvP, and WvW. Splitting those skills completely would be a mess to maintain.

The other thing is there is no such thing as an OP class right now. There are just OP weaponsets or specs at the moment. One spec that is OP in PvP might be weak in PvE and vice versa. That’s the challenge.

I definitely disagree with punishing anyone off-peak. I do however think that across the board, points should be awarded based on # of people on the map. That would also allow the league to be more competitive as a T1 server is matched against T3.

A lot of you seem to have this perception that “tournament = less features”, but that is just wrong. At most, the tournament meant that I might not have had as much time to post on the forums as I would have liked. That’s not to say that every Wednesday I didn’t spend 2-4 hours reading, responding, and forwarding your feedbackittenep seeing “it’s been a year, and nothing has changed.” Frankly, one would have to be completely removed from the game to honestly think that. In one year, we’ve seen Custom Arenas, Spectator Mode, Solo and Team Arenas, Paid tournaments come and go, Permanent stops, new maps, and many, MANY QoL issues addressed. Not to mention the many changes coming in from the Balance team.

What people were upset with is the fact that Structured PvP popularity is at an all time low, and just prior to the PAX tournament we saw one of the biggest, silliest balance changes that completely ruined the meta. On top of that we then saw the developers maintain a rigid stance that it would not be changed until after the PAX tournament. The player perception is that, once a tournament is announced, whatever state the game is currently in is going to remain that way, be it good or bad.

Custom arenas are great for the people that want to shell out for them. They have allowed people to organize custom “tournaments” like 3v3 Deathmatches, which have met with great success and enjoyment. Of course, seeing the players do this, and then hearing that the devs do not want to even explore the DM option, is disheartening.

Spectator Mode is a mess of bad angles. Paid tournaments came and went, as you said, so nothing really happened there in the end. Anet’s willingness to try and then remove something unsuccessful was great, can they extend the same sentiments to a deathmatch mode?

Solo Arenas and Team Arenas are good, but horribly broken currently. Permanent stomps is…well its not anything i’d write home about.

I am all for developers sharing their insight into the game, its great. What I am not for is developers crossing their arms and saying, “No.” to trying things that the community suggests. Things like:

-Removal of Downstate Option in Custom Arenas

-Deathmatch Mode, none of this secondary objective stuff, just a plain and simple DM arena.

-Height Standardization in Tournaments

-Cast Bars.

Things of that nature. Things the community has said that they want, and have been met with silence, a simple, “No,” or a lengthly explanation of why the Devs don’t want to try it. I’m sorry, and I understand its your game, but I think taking a such a stubborn stance on some things leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth, and makes it seem like you want us to play your game your way, and don’t give a hoot what we think.

I personally would be happy if we just received a team deathmatch option. Two teams fighting would be a lot of fun. It would also allow for a greater variety of builds.

It is definitely sad that GW2 has become a grind game. What initially caused me to like Gw2 was that you could pretty much play the game however you want. Now you are forced to complete certain tasks in order to get gear.

A couple of major changes should be made.
1. All ascended gear should be tradeable. It does not make sense to keep it soulbound. Look at it this way…. a lot of people love to run FotM. As a result of that, they end up with a number of ascended rings that they do not need. Let them sell those on the TP and use the money to buy other items of more interest to them.
2. Eliminate the concept of soul bound equipment. Once equipped, it should be usable by any alt on the account.

Supposedly, there is a revive hack in a cheat program, but it seems more likely that some Skale got killed by his bouncy daggers outside your immediate view.

This. Its saved my thief more times than I can count. The Golanta area in EB is especially good for it with all the mosquitos and other little vermin all over the place.

Yes. Mystery solved. It’s pretty easy to rally this way. Even if your team killed an NPC, as long as he tagged it, he will rally.

Extra fun fact: the population of WvW who plays any given week regularly is larger than the entire population of all of Gw1 the game any given week for a large chunk of the games lifespan. Just want to put things in perspective, Gw1 was amazing, but there is a reason we made Gw2.

there are times when it seems this community puts more effort into improving PVP than anet does. that’s not a mean spirited statement, just the hard truth. pretending things are OK will get this game nowhere

the “negativity” from the community is simply pointing out the truth. the PVP devs are lucky they have such honest criticism, that is, unless the forum mods deletes another thread including a dev post

Dev J. Sharp recently posted a sort of, “Spvp and our view” thread earlier this evening, and one think stuck out to me more than anything. This is an excerpt regarding the idea of “Splitting Skills,” which is when the class skills are balanced differently depending on what game type you are playing (PvE, PvP, or WvWvW).

The 3 different game types and splitting skills. Splitting skills between all 3 of our game types (PvE, PvP, WvW) is very costly – it takes more time to split the skills, and then upkeep the split skills. Instead of upkeeping 1 version of a skill, whenever you make future changes, you now have to make sure all 3 are appropriately balanced for their respective game types. This is very powerful, and something we did in GW1 when we felt we needed it. We just need to be careful not to do it too much, or it means the balance team is literally balancing 3 entire games. As Freamon (from “The Wire”, btw if you haven’t seen “The Wire”, stop whatever it is you’re doing and go watch it. Unless you’re giving birth. In that case…wait until you’re done, then watch it immediately afterwards. Oh, and get your new son/daughter to watch it when they’re old enough.) usually reminded the other members of the cast, “All the pieces matter.” The different pieces of GW2 all impact the other pieces, and it’s something we must always bear in mind.

I am having the hardest time swallowing this. So lets try to break it down point by point.

Splitting skills between all 3 of our game types (PvE, PvP, WvW) is very costly – it takes more time to split the skills, and then upkeep the split skills.

It might take more time, but wouldn’t the end result be harmony for all the game types involved? I know I hate when PvE antics impact my PvP abilities because one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. They are two completely different mindsets and playstyles. And I know thakittens the same sentiment in reverse.

Instead of upkeeping 1 version of a skill, whenever you make future changes, you now have to make sure all 3 are appropriately balanced for their respective game types.

If you did split them into 3 different types for 1 skill, why would you change them all simulatenously if there was a balance issue in only 1 or 2 of the game types, why would you not just balance it for THOSE types and leave the others unaffected?

We just need to be careful not to do it too much, or it means the balance team is literally balancing 3 entire games.

Again, if the end result is the playerbase playing a balanced game no matter the game type, why is extra time involved a bad thing? If a skill is imbalanced in PvE, why would you assume that it is imbalanced in PvP?

Except that the pieces are only affecting the other game types because you let them. They don’t need to, and they shouldn’t.

Someone please give me some clarification, I am not a coder, nor a programmer, nor a developer, so perhaps a gamers perspective just isn’t enough in this situation. But it seems like such a simple solution to have the skills split. Where is the actual cost, or is the reality that the devs simply don’t want to put in the time/effort to split them?

I believe this is one of the major things holding back PvP from truly becoming competitive. How can PvP balance be achieved if it is affected by the other two game types?

It cannot. As long as Anet refuses to dedicate time and resources to splitting skills, it will never achieve balance. No other game with pvp has ever successfully overcome this hurdle and become competitive.

The only stupid OP spec left is S/D thief IMO. Necros have to have Plague up to be able to survive a Warrior fight if they bring greedy utilities. If they don’t bring greedy utilities they can’t Spite-Epi or Corrupt Boon-Epi, which cuts into their pressure.

S/D thief still eliminates Mesmer and Ele from competitive play. Necro doesn’t have that effect.

No, CC regen warriors, necro aoe, and s/d thief are still the issues.

Mesmers and eles are fine as is.

About deathmatch. I don’t think we want individual deathmatch. Although that could be fun, it would be way more fun to have team deathmatch. 5v5 or 8v8 would be a lot of fun. If you don’t believe it, look at those people who keep asking about GvG. There is a big interest there.

This issue is simple.

It took two months of sifting through the dumbest meta ever for no reason at all. This isn’t even a PvE thing, no one in PvE gives a kitten about Spirit Rangers or S/D thieves or Necromancers or Stun Lock/Infinite Regen Warriors.

Whatever the hell is going on at the top, its at a total disconnect with the bottom.

Can we just, for like three months, go back to the GW1 launch methods? Small balance every week on Tuesday until the meta forms into something decent?

And get rid of all these RNG passives.

So I only use guard and thief but here are my thoughts fighting against the classes:

1. Spirit rangers/Minion Necros: Not a concern at all. They are actually easy to fight against. Too many people are just too lazy to learn how.
2. S/D thieves: I think they are a good counter to boon classes. I’d like to see them steal even more boons but do less damage in the process. Make it a pure team support spec.
3. Necro: Their AOEs are out of control. Needs to be adjusted.
4. Stun warrior: This is just too strong right now. Needs to be adjusted. I get that warriors needed some help in PvP, but they were already the OP class in PvE and in WvW zergs.

Solo Queue- New Punishment for Quitters

I was hoping that the number of people quitting matches would decline after the free trial weekend. Unfortunately, it has not. The punishment is not severe enough. So I’d like to propose the following. This allows to any match that ends with one team being outnumbered.

Winning team:
They receive the same awards as today. It is not their fault the other team has quitters.

Losing team (members who stay until the end):
They receive nothing. No win or lose.

Quitting team members:
They receive a total of between 3 and 5 losses for the one fight. 3 seems reasonable, but if we want to keep the overall W/L number even, then 5 is fine.

Yes, severe, but it is time for people to get punished for leaving their teams.

You guys need to wait until you hear the rewards. If the rewards are less valuable than the cost of a server transfer, no one will move because of the league. Sure, there will always be bandwagon individuals / guilds, but for the most part there will not be much movement.

I think 2 leagues is fine for NA. I just really hope you factor in the differences in WvW population. There needs to be a different scoring system or the end results of the league will look pretty much the same as the current rankings.
