Why is bringing boon strip not a better answer than nerfing might?
I feel like the effectiveness of boon stripping is out weighed by the speed and ease of reapplication of boons which makes just running a strength/battle build more effective as a counter then boon stripping in some cases.
Being able to turn off Explosive’s on-dodge Bomb would be appreciated by stealth Engies.
learning to not dodge when running a stealth build on engi was possibly the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do
skins that allowe to show my dominance in PvP? yes please
And then a person who has played necro for an hour attacks, gg.
lol to true
- fire and smoke bomb on pulses (not glue)
that’s interesting i tested a bit and it never seemed to proc on the smoke bomb for me so i assumed shrapnel only proced on explosives and pulses that dealt damage , although i have been known to have large bouts of bad luck so that’s what it most likely was.
well might as well drop my favorite s/tpvp builds for ya
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQJAqelUUpkr9ZxdLseRiaBNqzE6bkxAIyPmlPFBA-TJhHwAEeAAb2fAwJAwYZAA
started using this on recently it tanks really well and can dish out alot of punishment but you gotta make sure you stay ontop of your target.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlcTp6q1XxELseNCbBBqKI6jEln85DEgkC-TJxHwADeAAa2fAwFAoYZAA
this is my favorite build to use its a standard hgh build but it is really strong in 1v1s when you get used to the rotations, i find it lacks a bit in big team fights but 1v1/2v2 it can really deal out some punishment, you can run it with zerker for more burst which also works really well.
I think you will notice that this trait only effects the weapon skills only anything that isn’t a rifle skill won’t get a damage buff to my knowledge, I could be wrong but it doesn’t seem like anet wouldn’t let us get a free 20% damage bonus to explosives without some sortof temporary requirement
I guess there can be new things with the experimental turrets trait, sure, but you will be lacking in a lot of other areas if you go that far to make it worth it.
Infinite protection is not worth it you say? Perma 6 stacks of might when you drop Flame turret and Supply crate is not worth it?
I think I’ll just give up as well because frankly it isn’t worth.
with the right build you can look at getting perma vigor fury 6-12 might retaliation regeneration and swiftness but hey not worth it at all
I personally wouldn’t take the torment sigil on your build since you won’t stack much torment you have a lot of condition upkeep so you don’t really need it as a cover condition and you don’t have a huge crit chance so once again you won’t be able to maximise stacking potential, sigil of geomancy or sigil of hydromancy would be my choice for offensive sigils or take sigil of energy since that dodge.
bursting is good but I don’t think it works out to be stronger then taking a condition sigil.
team death match, not solo death match, just give it some time and start getting into it with a group of friends, hell even talking to your team mates before the match about your builds and such.
I personally think that it needs to be last man standing rather then zerg to 500
maybe something like counter strike?
wipe out the other team to score a win for the team,
8 wins out of 15 rounds (or the 15 minutes time is up) will end that game?for example,
1. round 1 fight! 15 minutes map duration count down starts
2. blue team wipes red team!
3. blue 1 – 0 red
4. red team fights back, wipes blue team!
5. blue 1 – 0 red
6. yada yada blah blah blah crash boom ding fight fight fight
7. blue 7 – 3 red
8. blue team wipes red team!
9. blue 8 – 3 red
10. ding ding ding blue team is victorious!
yea something like that, some of the most fun I actually ever had in gw2 was doing 5v5 last man standing, did it for 8 hours one time against the same team and it felt great knowing how hardcore we had to setup as a team and the coordination from both teamst that was needed to secure a victory.

can a group of 5 engineers go into the new tdm mode and use as many turrets as possible, preferably a 10/0/30/30/0 build, and film all the carnage and but hurt, I really wanna see this.
plus you can still achieve 100%- condition duration, you will hit like a wet noodle but youcan ddoit
zerker engineer
Is there a way to get a similar build without the Celestial as I don’t have them trinkets.
this should be a reliable alternative
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcAQFAUlcTp6q1XxELseNiE+gECmRe5Xie8YU2kB-zEyAoLASEQ2rIasVuioxqXw0lJVfKI7TKiWNpAGVYE-w
I really liked that clutch binding blades into grenade barraga about 8 and half minutes in. nice vid.
we did it heaps that day unfortunately i forgot to film alot
Untraited grenades? What is this madness?
I think it ended up working out fine, but you might consider dropping 5 in inventions and taking modified ammunition. I know it sounds a bit odd to advise not taking the healing recharge, but you can get a 6-10% damage boost pretty easily by taking modified ammunition. With these higher vitality elixir builds, it’s harder to heal yourself up from low HP in a pinch, so it’s generally better to kill or get away from whatever is killing you instead of trying to out-sustain it, at least in my experience.
I feel like you might be a bit better off with bomb kit than grenade kit though since you primarily use them from melee range. In addition to hitting pretty hard, they’re also less vulnerable to retal and provide you some more stealth opportunities that are useful for escaping. Smoke bomb is also very handy for securing stomps so you don’t have to waste your elixir S for that. It means you can’t attack with it at range, but your rifle auto attacks will do more damage than grenade tosses anyways, and you’ll want to get close for your big damage in the first place.
Tool kit or elixir gun would also be very strong choices for obvious reasons.
all very agreeable stuff, ill have to mess around with some different stuff at some point but i think the main reason i ran this build is it felt like it worked and the madness very much clearly the madness
Hello been a while since i posted anything since my kittenty Australian internet takes its dear time doing anything, anyway in this vid the first 2 fights i was using a complete blind build literally everything was set to inflict blind and it was fun, the rest of the video is all HGH with soldiers and some of the celestial gear ive slowly acquired i was running the 2/2/2 split runes but after the patch in 2 days ill only be using the new runes of strength.
you can still run full soldiers with this and its still just as effective otherwise just throw in some knights gear if you don’t have the celestial gear.
hope you all enjoy it
(edited by ukuni.8745)
did you use the GW2 forums as a resume? something tells me that would be a good resume
Easy there Ukuni, This isn’t a mobility discussion. We are discussing a bug, to bring attention to it so that it gets fixed. Not asking for a lecture on how you think we should play, particularly when you end by telling the community they need to learn how to play the profession for mobility of a warrior.
didn’t mean for it to come off that way my bad, and the rifle slick shoes rocket boots eg was just ment to be a bit of trivia, and when I said people need to learn it I ment it more along the lines of its something you have to practice to get the most out of it since it is a very useful piece of information, I’m also not very good at writing things that make sense but I’m working on it, atleast in providing the swap weapon technique people have a way to get around the problem until it is fixed
Could someone link the patch notes. No real discussion of the changes..
there ant any solid patch notes yet just notes taken from what was on the ready up which isn’t a lot of information aside from the new gm traits, I think the best information will be what the actual trait changes are which we don’t have yet.
you can cancel the animations on any engineer leap by hitting the weapon swap key while you are in a kit, you can use this trick at the end of rocket boots to cancel the stuck effect you suffer from at the end of rocket boots, takes a bit of practice to get used to like making sure your in a kit every time before you use rocket boots but it can be used really effective in combination with the Elixir gun leap by minimize the total time it takes to use both skills in combination and with slick shoes and a rifle you can out mobility a warrior, take the time to learn this skill guys.
rifle/flamer power
1 reason I want polearms and that is so I can play phantom lancer (from dota) style on mesmer.
Thanks konig, gw lore is pritty kittening interesting, i do wish that message was a bit more cryptic then just orr though, like a place where the dragons minds hang out where they are asleep because ya would need some ridiculous power to reach it.
In my eyes there are 2 viable options for a roaming power engi. The first would the glassy static discharge build (SD) that focuses on maxing out tools and choosing utilities with a low CD toolbelt skill to make the most out of an adept tools trait called static discharge. These builds are generally extremely glassy however they can also be fairly tanky depending in how you use the skills available to you. Sil has a lot of roaming and dueling vids of a not so glassy SD build but i personally prefer the kill or be killed approach with mine. Haimanhelm also has a couple videos of himself running a full glass SD build in WvW, but those ones are a bit outdated.
Your 2nd option would be an HGH rifle build, which focuses on elixirs and stacking very high amounts of might. This thread has many examples of videos and builds of HGH builds, both condi and power
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/HGH-might-stacking-power-vs-condi
11 times now? that hgh guide is coming.
for the op take the link in my Sig to my YouTube I have a few videos that utilize the rifle pritty effectively.and they might be able to help you out, if there is anything you like do hesitate to ask about it and I can help you out.
The megaserver is just a mechanic to get more players together in more desolate zones/smaller servers (in the long term). The cleansing of Orr would have to be actual story content. The megaserver itself doesn’t really affect the story, it just allows a more evened out the playerbase.
there are a lot of handy benefits to a mega server other then bringing players together like putting players that have finished the ps together and the same for players that havnt together, now the question would be how to implement it, firstly story isn’t a big thing here simply because the ps covers the important parts, players that have beat the main story get a new map that covers cleaning up Orr, wait what about all the old stuff how can players get back to that, well I had a thought on that the pale tree has the ability to show the past and future with the dream now let’s say trehearne (who’s wyld hunt is the cleanse Orr) sticks around to aid in the clean up gets a weak version of that and is able to show people the past and those players who have beaten the ps can go back to the old map to enjoy all the old events and get placed back in the old Orr bracket of the mega server, players who havnt beaten the ps stay in the old Orr map, now what if people don’t care to beat the ps and just want to enjoy the new content well same thing with trehearne but shows them what could happen if they beat zhitan but only available to level 80s, everyone wins in this eexcept new players who have to get to level 80
With the way the new mega server will work, will players now be able to start doing things like cleansing orr?
With the recent announcement of the Megaserver can we please get open world dueling now so i can duel all my different buddies that ive made over the game that are mixed through out every server in the game, this would make us all happy, ive got so many friends on a bunch of different servers that always want to duel when ever we are matched together in WvW
hey I was wondering if anyone has talked about the path to revelations and the current living story and if so if I could get any links to anything people have been discussed about it, I had a quick scroll threw the forums but didn’t really see anything, anyway my reason for asking about it is it seems like scarlet went there since when she hopped into omadds machine because this place is described as something bigger then the mists and the dream and from the way they describe what scarlet saw it just seems like there is a connection there.
Im kinda disappointed there has been no mention of new skills/weps in ready up yet, since they did say it is going to be comparable to expansions from other games. Dont leave me disappointed devs!
that is a pritty good point, it does seem like there is a fair bit of new content but hardly an expansions worth, either way the changes coming will be very much accepted.
Some of the new rune sets that have been shown on Twitch suggest that HGH may have more viability after April 15th.
yes, yes it will have more viability…..muhahahahaha
I think the current multikit Condi spam engineers will be hit the worst this patch however it looks like there are builds incoming which is really going to freshen up the engineer experience.
Think big picture.
I am .. I’m thinking about just how much faster now I will die in WvW due to a lack of condition cleansing abilities, because of an overly-broad change that is intended to nerf one gimmicky build and instead makes life more difficult for all engineers, everywhere.
That’s the big picture — 0.1% of the GW2 playerbase whines about one specific build used in PvP, and all engineers are left even more weak in an area where they were already terrible. With, it would seem, no new condition cleanse abilities added to compensate.
i cant remember the last time i seen an engineer using AR in wvw
I’d like to point out that the feature patch offers other ways to run an effective decap engineer, won’t be able to tell until the patch hits but I think I can see a rather viable alternative to make it work, nother that want decap to continue but some ones bound to find a way to make it work still
I probably shouldn’t be reading the forums at 10:45 on a Friday night….but I am.
1) Thanks for talking about this in such a constructive manner. A lot of you guys are bringing up great points with highly cogent logic. I like. I like how you’re bringing up possible issues in multiple game types as well, kudos for espousing a holistic point of view.
2) There are going to be a lot of changes, as we’ve stated before on the 15th. The meta will probably shift a lot for many areas of the game, so we’ll have to see how things shake out.
3) Please keep the talking open, rational, and with as little salt as possible – you guys are rocking. We are listening, and I’ll check this thread next week to see how the conversation goes.
Thanks for keeping it civil.
/Chapout
will you be prepared to remove it on a moments notice if the majority want it removed its pritty clear we don’t want it now and with the meta getting a good shake it might not be that bad but if it doesn’t pan out the way you would like it to will anet be prepared to remove it quickly or will it be some balance patch 6-9 months later?
engi vs engi sure perplexity is good but get back to us after you get wasted over and over by the other classes running perplexity and tell us how great it is, you literally have no clue how bad this rune is with the new changes coming do you?
The math still favors the set over anything else as long as you get one interrupt and confusion proc damage.
The current 4 piece is good because you could get a opener proc. The revised version will be much farther out of your control and has a long icd. Still the 6th piece wins vs any other set.
If your 6 piece procs for 600 damage your other rune sets conditions need to somehow find a 600 Dps total increase in that same time frame.
Right now and even post patch if the 4 or 6 piece never proc scavenging, undead, noble, torment(if you get a proc), krait(w/proc),orrian(w/proc) will all out Dps perplexity but if the 6 procs perp wins. This assuming those runes procs don’t allow for a similar 6 piece post update.
4 damage condition @ 1600 condi damage will always be better then 3 at the same damage. Probably even 3 at 1800 won’t be better the 4 at 1600.
Possible contenders are rune of torment, scavenging, krait, orrian we have to see how they changed their procs. If your running off hand pistol then it really doesn’t matter much if you run something else. You really just get benefit from the 4. The duration will probably be fixed.
this doesn’t answer the question of try fighting every other class when this patch hits with are getting a nerf there is no chance an engineer is going to be able to compete as a condition bursting class anymore, we will be much to vulnerable to necros warriors rangers mesmers and thiefs, now do all the math you like but condition specs are going to be doing a whole lot more damage and engineers with the weakest condition removal just won’t be able to handle it with out being baby sitted by a support guardian, now this is all based around spvp not much will change in wvw, luckily we are getting good buffs to other builds but after this patch say bye to condition bursting engineers In spvp I think.
with the right runes 75% reduction at 33% hp, take the trait that reduces cripple chill and immob by 33% and youse got 3 conditions your immune to take a sigil of purity and that sigil that swaps a condition for a boon and your potentially looking at a better tank then the current decap engineer
those 2 sigils and the 15 point alchemy trait will give you 16 passively removed conditions a minute and with immunity to cripple chill and immob you’ll most likely be removing the damaging conditions so even with this nerfed the potential for a solid decap engi build is still very much there
engi vs engi sure perplexity is good but get back to us after you get wasted over and over by the other classes running perplexity and tell us how great it is, you literally have no clue how bad this rune is with the new changes coming do you?
wow anet with the changes to sigils how the hell did you come to the conclusion that perp would be a good idea, the new sigils were already expected to make the condi meta stronger and you want to throw perplexity into that………..who ever said this was a good idea you need to fire seriously i cannot grasp how bad of an idea this is
-Engineer
Enourmously strong dueling class and even has a few (tho limited) builds for zerging and GvGing. A perplexity engi can kill multiple foes solo and his condi spam is the 2nd best ingame. He is tricky to catch, lacks a few stunbreakers imo. But he has a decently tanky nature and can be build to 100% destroy hambow warriors. Engi is enourmously versatile and can adept to pretty much any situation. I love roaming with this class. Only thing this class needs is maybe making few power builds more viable and some trait fixes as some are utter crap. But I really think this class still has some supprises and secrets hidden away in their traits. I am sure not everyting has been tried yet.
ive tried heaps of differnet builds on an engineer and yes there is quite a few things you wont ever see that are pretty viable especially for power engineers
- I want a hammer and a mace for my engi.
- I also want some kind of battle tank or suit as elite, wich does not change skills but increase kit effectiveness.
- And I want actually useful turrets
- A mine kit would be amazing too, like a bomb kit, but just with invisible dura mines <3
a mecha suit that attachs all turrets to you, makes em mobile for a short time and makes you awesome, that and I’d like an engineer hammer
how many times is that now Carpboy, maybe i should start working on a Elixir tutorial to get stickyed
Aaah, I saw your post in another thread. Thanks!
Sooo… what is your opinion on elixir build comparing to other possible builds?
Thanks again!
Elixir builds are great offensively, youll never have trouble against passive healing and defense. They can be really squishy at times or extremely tanky. It all depends on how you use the skills available to you
Carpboy pritty much hit the nail on the head
im just genna leave these 2 things right here
personally I don’t see this as being all that great as http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Hoelbrak
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Strength
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Fire
2 of each of these makes your might last longer currently 3*20% increased might duration versus 10%,15%,and 20% might duration from the updated runes of strength, the 7% damage boost will be nice as well as the 100 extra power so in total its probably close to a 11% damage increase but a significant loss in might uptime for your team? Those are irrelevant. They’re changing all runes so mixing and matching is no longer as good. Those rune sets will no longer have +20% might duration on each of their 2-set bonuses, so there’s nothing to compare to.
yeah, you won’t be able to compare them post patch, but that’s the point it compares might stacking prepatch to post patch. This shows that it may be a personal dps buff while being a dps nerf to your group.
everything you are saying is irrelevant since HGH is by design a selfish build, your best chance at stacking aoe might using HGH is around 5 might and that’s a waste of time since you wont be spamming out condi cleanses/stability and invis just to support a team with might.
Except it doesn’t have to be just HGH that you stack might with, for example using bomb kit, heal turret, thumper turret, shield (with these 4 items you can give your whole group 18 stacks of might, not counting that you could use fire bomb again afterward using your elite supply crate and elixir gun jump to give your whole group 24 might) in this order Healing Turret, Big Ol’ Bomb, Fire Bomb, Thumper Turret 1, Thumper Turret 2, Thumper Turret 3, Thumper Turret 4, Detonate Healing Turret, Magnetic shield, Magnetic shield second hit I didn’t include 2nd round I got tired of linking…
you do realize that i was showing how much stronger a HGH zerker engi would be with those new runes right?
get your pve jibber jabber outta here
Yes I do understand that, do you understand that while HGH benefits from the rune change, that other might stacking builds suffer. Especially when that can be a major role in a party as an engineer I thought it had been specifically said by a dev that this patch would help make engis more beneficial into groups (or something along those lines, but I cant find it now).
did i also mention that i don’t think playing how you want and playing to be optimal is a fair argument in pve.
maybe on other classes make it so they need to have a sigil of blood lust on both weapon sets so the buffs just drop when they swap weapons, then its the same for everyone.
maybe its so you can look at your team mates builds so you don’t have to ask them what they are running, would make communication in solo que alot better if you could just take a look at your team mates builds at the start of a match rather then just asking what spec they are running.
im just genna leave these 2 things right here

I’d say instead of replacing rifle’s skills with something else, why not just add a new weapon for engineer to use: Shotgun.
The Shotgun has the following skills.
1. Do a 900 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause 1 layer of bleeding
(2s default). (Much like Guardian’s staff, but more condition oriented)
2. Do a 900 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause bleeding. Layers depending on distance.
(<450 range = 6 layers of bleed, >450 range = 3 layers of bleed.)
3. Do a 900 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause torments. Layers depending on distance.
(<450 range = 3 stacks, >450 distance = 1 stack)
4. A charge shot that knock back up to 5 targets in 450 range cone shape. This skill also inflicts 5 layers of vulnerability.(This skill works like mesmer’s GS 5)
5. Do a 600 range cone damage that hit up to 5 targets and cause cripple. We only have 3 weapons to choose anyway, so adding a new one will make us much more diverse and versatile.
I haven’t think of the exact value for these skills yet, but I hope you guys like my idea.
needs to be more like an fps shotgun so we need a skill that if you are within 100 range instantly kill enemy
