I’ve never played an engineer, but I played in a match last night with 9 engineers. That alone tells me that something is broken. As a necro I felt like a ping pong ball. I spent 50% of the match being KD, stun, thrown and kicked all over the place. The other 50% I spent perma immobilized by those stupid turrets.

I know im Not the first on to say this but ill say it anyways the thief class is on its way to be broken . Since release theif has been getting nerf after nerf after nerf . im Not saying they suck , but unless you are a pro thief its Not that Good .

The patch has drawn in alot more players so yes it is a big success. Though I wish they would introducing a bracket system to separate good players from the new bad ones coz playing with noobs is very frustrating.

Nope no way engineers built to duel crap all over thiefs and are one of the strongest duelist in the game tight now.
Nope not a bug been working same way since launch. Mesmer summoning isn’t like a regular attack it simply needs a destructible object to activate. At the same time you can blind, invulnerable, interrupt, and move out of there range.
Phantasms attack in intervals making there attacks very predictable and easy to dodge. I suggest you get better instead of asking for others profs to be nerfed.

Op thief vs engi is kinda of a hard match up for a thief. Just like engi vs necro can be hard for engi. Engis have a high skill ceiling are really strong if play well but I don’t think they are op.
Though there has been increased qq about engis lately.
With the same reasoning, i can go afk in the field and come back 10 minute later and see a dead zerg at my feet?
Seriously though, stealth and evasion are the two core mechanics of thief gameplay so of course they are going to have access to it. Please leave your QQ elsewhere. This can go for pretty much everyone else that complain about thieves.

You do realize I play a thief almost exclusively in wvw right? I spend most of my time roaming solo looking for solo roaming and dual roaming builds and kill them.
Yesterday I solo’d a necro/engi team, thief/engineer team, thief,ele,necro team, thief/necro team
and myself with a same thief build friend killed a team comprised of an engi/necro/ranger/warrior/ele and an upscale thief (which doesn’t count).
Edit "I did lose a fight to two shatter mesmers and a stun warrior". That was definately a bad fight to get into.
What other profession has the capability to do such a thing? None.
I love to win, but going back to the character comment that one thief player made.... I am all for fair play, so compare me to someone like himself and others who want free wins. The lack of character is most assured not my problem.

So I know every mesmer apologist will tell you that phantasm damage isn’t bugged and has always almost 1-shot people, but what about all the other AI in this game?
Its clear to anyone that Svanir/Chieftan received significant power increases, to the point that they are rarely worth doing anymore.
Even more silly, is that I am seeing Tropical Birds everywhere as everyone and their mother is running pirate runes to get those parrots that crit for 3K, and even as high as 4.5-6K against squishies. It even evades while doing its attack, and is hard to see too!
Rock dogs are critting as high as 4.5K, and the mist profession trainers are hitting for silly amounts. The ele hit me on a full zerker for 5K vapor blade and 10K arcane wave – values I have NEVER EVER EVER hit anywhere near on my ele.
So are all of these AI bugged, or are they purposely buffed up? Is everyone supposed to run as much AI as possible? I have tried pet ele, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be doing the same amounts of absurd damage.

This build was always possible, but it was either glassy or fairly low damage. Now with 2 sigils on hammer, re-worked sigil of intelligence, the new burst precision trait, and the new cavalier’s amulet, this has mutated into a super-survivable high-DPS maximum control beast.
My question is: *How are other classes going to counter this?*

Yes on paper that all seems very strong but all profession have received the benefits of the rune and sigil changes. I would say Warrior is not quite as dominate as it was pre patch.iWars are still really strong but I think there are other classes and specs that are currently just as viable.
So there are invincible guardians and engiees who heal for more than you can deal with 2 people next to you and many other cheap builds you can use. But so far the most frustrating one I’ve seen, is this cheap Stun-Warrior. I’m not even joking when I say I don’t get to click a single skill on my ranger, and that’s wit having some decent HP(carrion gear) and defensive traits(pet takes some conditions and knockbacks etc.). Today my entire team has been brutally murdered over and over again by this cheap warrior using hammer. I’m not sure what to do, if even with my defensive things, tons of dodges, fears and pushbacks, this warrior still can just jump on me and kill me in seconds, shouldn’t it be nerfed? What’s with the cooldown of this thing? I get stunned and knockbacked over and over again. Nerf it, please…a lot. That’s coming from a guy who’s favourite class is warrior.

Whats up with the profession distribution of soloq in this game yesterday for 5 games I was stuck with 3 thiefs and got basically destroyed every game. While half the time the other team had no thief or just one. Shouldn’t the system be spreading out the professions evenly?
The goes for all classes but especially thiefs because basically the team with the most thiefs loses atm.
Your team only had three thiefs because you insisted on playing theif.
You know that playing your thief when your team already has 2 thiefs will result in a loss but you do it anyways.
Solution: Make some sort of bunker, and keep it ready for this situation.
I actually play Mesmer and Warrior majority of the time in Soloq and barely play thief that often in spvp. Each time I was paired up with 3 thiefs I was on war and memser.
Don’t get me wrong I know it can work if you can communicate and use there mobility damage, but in soloq there barely are time.
When you’re vsing a team with lots of bunkers it makes winning the first encounter at mid really hard. Not to mention Spirit watch and skyhammer other classes are much better. As I said either its not just a thief problem its all the classes stacking. The only reason I mention thief is because I have stack will other classes many times. All engi, guard, War, Necro teams seems to do really well but all thief just makes things so hard and sucks in comparison.
depends on what class you are vsing if you going at it against ranger spec you can do well if you vs a spec with lots in combat mobility you gonna get really frustrated. Though in group setting it can work as long people don’t focus on you.
I have tremendous respect for the Thief players out there as I find playing this class to be a complete act of frustration. Yes, it has some great tricks but I always feel like I’m really having to work to make some combo come through. Half the time I find myself bashing my head into my desk.
In comparison, I can play my Warrior, make a sandwich, and formulate the space-time continuum while still being able to 1vX other players. Thieves are not OP, they just are better players than myself.

Minion Necro is the only spec here which can literally stand in place and not touch anything while still dealing significant damage to an opponent.
Now, Minion Necro could be a spec involving skilled gameplay if the passive damage was removed from the minions and minions had more utility. For example, if Shadow Fiend was an AoE blind and short chill. If Bone Minions exploded into a cloud of weakness and poison. If Bone Fiend’s immobilize had a reasonable cast time.
Right now the only truly well designed minion is probably Flesh Wurm, where it offers reasonable utility and damages only if the enemy is within range and chooses not to kill it.
As for spirit Ranger, I would actually prefer Spirits to work like this:
Instead of having passive abilities, spirits passive are combined into their current passives, for example, Sun Spirit would look like:
20 second cooldown, your sun spirit blinds all enemies nearby, you and allie’s next attacks do 4 seconds of burning. This ‘burning attack’ would appear on the rangers bar as the current sun spirit passive icon.
This preserves the sun spirit’s basic function, without even a percentage nerf, but adds a LOT of counterplay and skillful play. Say my team has an enemy down, I hit my sun spirit, blinding the enemy team and applying lots of burning to my team’s cleave.
The other spirits could be reworked in exactly the same way, although there might need to be some rebalancing done to cooldowns and such.
Frost Spirit might look like this:
20 second CD, your frost spirit chills nearby enemies for 5 seconds (pulsing), you and your teammates next attack does 50% more damage
Suddenly frost spirit is actually viable for burst comps and again, the former passive is made into something cool, and noticeable. Imagine a zerker ranger/thief frost spirit duo

You know I had some new players playing MM necro and Spirit ranger and they do ok get new thief and its like I was swear at them(I don’t though all gotta start some where). Though main problem is why isn’t there equal profession distribution among teams in soloq Why are some team stack so heavily?
I brought up thiefs becuase its pretty much over for team with 3 or more, I have stacked with Wars and bunkes guards and its an easy match. At the same time that does mean its right either I would think the pairing system should address this issue.
If anything power for all class seem to have become bit more viable. That or AI damage has be buff because lots of MM necro, Spirit rangers, and Mesmer phants have been hurting alot more post patch.

I can kill thief by spamming scepter one on condi necro, i can kill thief with 3 life blasts on power necro, i can just kill thief with eyes closed on my condi engi, jeez it has nothing to do with 1v1 its about the fact that you have to play completely different game when there is thief around.

OP I get what you are saying your right when you vs a thief you do have to use a totally different strategy, but what wrong with that? If you did that same thing like you did with all class just going through your rotation of skills I find its gets pretty boring.
At the same time there is a limit to what a thief can actually do. Thief may have the initiative system but the F1(steal) and utilities have cools downs just like all the other classes and they are massive to thiefs game play.
For... eg you dump a whole bunch of condis on a thief he uses Shadow step to remove them now you know the thiefs has most probably used his only stun breaker and is now very vulnerable to Condi.
You see a thief approaching you most thiefs will use steal(900 range) or IS(600 range) to engage you can evade blind or move out of range.
Also even with the initiative system the can’t do unlimited skills he does run out you know so pay attention to what skill he used and how much initiative each skill cost so you can be predict what he will do next.
Though as you stated you don’t have trouble with thiefs you just don’t like the fact that you have to play differently when you engage a thief to that I say tough cookies
P/D condi has been an OP build for some time. I’ve said it before on here, you can pretty much just stay at range and Vital shot the person to death. The risk vs reward is quite broken on this play style.

Well I dont know if its op its strong its has its uses, like solo roaming in wvw for instance. Though before for the patch its was a terribad choice to bring to solo que or team que but now with buffed runes and the new gm traits its can generate a reasonable about of condi pressure.
Hi guys when the new patch hit and I saw the hit to power builds I was quite annoyed but I quickly got over that a realized there are so many new possibilities and build to be discovered. Been playing with lots of different things and its looks very promising there’s alot more build diversity and its quite exciting.
I don’t really play much spvp more of a wvw roaming but here is a video of me using condi thief. Before the patch condi thief is spvp was so bad and really just dead weight.
With the new grandmaster trait Bewildering Ambush and rebalance runes things might have changed enjoy the video.

Things I have noticed so far ele are now good and rangers pets seem to hurt alot more.
Just did 15 soloq matches and I just wanted to say elementalist seem alot more powerful now. Currently from what I have seen so far ele is prob the last class I want to vs atm.
What do everyone else think?

Extractors work, but they cost SO MUCH. It cheaper to buy another one than buy an extractor for all runes and sigil except 1 (the sigil of generosity).
If you buy 25 upgrade extractor it will cost you 200 gems for each of them. (If you buy less it will cost you more per extractor).
200 Gems cost 19.42 Gold to get right now. Even the Sigil of Bursting (the second more expensive upgrade) cost ’’only’’ 15 gold if you buy it directly. Why would anybody buy an extractors.
Now, the facts that you can’t transmute a rune like you were able too in the past is a bit annoying.

Weapons bought with badges from wvw can not be salvaged, so if you put an expensive sigil on it you best option was to use a transmutation crystal to ge t it on to you new weapon. Now with the new system you can no longer do this its not a big issue but still kinda of annoying.
ryandeniszorro.6735 for example zerker rifle war was able to oneshot mesmer or thief. I did it a lot of times, but it involved that they should not know of me so they wont be able to dodge or block my burst skill.
I laughed a lot of some thieves that seen me channeling burst skill and went to stealth to make me loose target. That dont work on channeling skills.

Working fine for me, may be a stupid question but do you have Hidden Thief trait up that stealths on steal? If so then CnD may be whats revealing you in that regard

It’s too easy to cleanse thief blead stacks. They don’t have lots of cover conditions. Even if they did have cover conditions though, condi is DoT damage, so it doesn’t make sense to build a thief that way, since they won’t be able to survive attempting to apply constant pressure.
This is such a BS argument. Nobody has 100 cleanses, and a thief can easily reapply those stacks. Combined with Devourer Venom, a thief can safely stack 20 bleeds with no issues, while a bleed warrior (which is more than viable) can only stack 15 each burst, which is very easily telegraphed. Warrior has torment, but thief has poison on autoattack and steal. Thief also has a massive AoE bleed/cripple which ticks Signet of Malice. In a team fight you can be the determining factor, and running Celestial on said spec you can crit 6k backstabs while bleeding for near 1k per tick. Don’t knock it because every other thief on these poison forums tells you that bleed thief is garbage.

Warrior can put on a blindfold and stack permanent 25 bleeds with no effort combined with perma torment, burn, cripple, and take 0 damage forever and duct tape you to a tree and make you watch helplessly as they abuse your puppy before killing both of you. ;/Thief really doesn’t have a great condition set-up for damage and it’s more geared towards survival/trolling. Warrior and Necro just blow Thief out of the water when it comes to Hybrid builds. Mine as well just end someones life quickly with full direct damage

All dire condi and perplex builds are strong, It’s an easy-mode gimmick, you’re only going to kill nubs though who are persistent in killing you when they can just as easilly ignore your mosquito damage and go about their business.

They’re strong vince but lack killing power vs tankier targets or just defensively played chars. The same thing applies to Amonatory’s spec and 10/0/30/0/30 SD/DP that I play atm. Everything is cool and smooth untill you meet 20k HP 3k armour war, dire pd, pu mes, tankier ele etc. Things will be even harder after April 15.
I was thinking about moving Condition Duration from Deadly Arts to Critical Strikes; Prowess (crt dmg) to Trickery and Condition Damage to Deadly Arts (originally in trickery) as this would encourage hybrids and break the "since-release-meta’ of 30 in CS.
Yea I understand what your saying but it reallly depends on how the hybrid thief is built during combat I have have 3.3-3.5k+ attack 900-1000+ condi damage 60% crit chance and 75 crit dmg. You can kill pretty much anything with those stats. The 1000+ condi dmg cause the conditions to tick for a decent amount of damage and it really helps when dealing with high armored opponents.
Also in the video at 4.52 and 9.28 I vs two condi PU mesmers and these two are the best pu memser I have versed so far. PU mesmers are pretty easy when I run hybrid. Though I agree Warriors can attain some ridiculous stats and take a while to take down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRif5d7jU8w

Why would I bother with some hybrid builds that just prolong a fight if thief class allows me to instagib people?
A lot of the claims about X unconvential build being viable do come from a 1v1 setting, where you can take your time because there aren’t extrenal factors to deal with. In a Team setting, you don’t have the luxury of taking your time.
To the Vincecontix’s point 1v1 is the scenario where these kinds of methodical build can work, whether they’re optimal or not idk. In a team setting you will want to have glass cannons, as you mention, and bunkers, because it only takes two people spiking to down someone and 99% of the time guarentee a stomp with the spike and stomp potentially occurring in 4 seconds.
In context of having the most effective thief for a group setting you are right but for wvw solo small man roaming its a bit of a different matter. Going solo or small man even condi thiefs are viable and currently extremetly powerful with dire gear and perplex runes.

I love Mesmer, but 1 versus anything in WvW is pretty sucky for this class, thief being the worst encounter of all.
You obviously dont know how to play mesmer, they are currently and been for a long time the strongest dueling class.
I’ve defended thief on nearly every nerf but I voiced out about that BS skill. At least with FS/LS the evade part is separate from the damage portion. You have to risk taking damage to deal it. S/P is way way way too easy to play and that’s the main reason I hate it. Often the best way to play it is to press 3 repeatedly, not moving around, not dodging, just chaining pw on top of pw… could it be more boring? Hopefully they’ll change the skill into two parts and find a way to make it require some measure of skill to be good with it.
That being said, it’s disgusting that a dev made a thread specifically about PW while ignoring all the other issues with the rest of the professions. How about a bit of unbiased decision making?
Agreed I was quite shocked myself to see a dev make the thread considering all the other issues in this game.
