if this is the build/style you want to play.. your trait line where you take the scepter trait for 200 condi would be better spent in the last trait line i think.

it would still give you 200 condi but it would reduce the cooldown on every clone summoning skill.. which includes scepter block. It would also give you the chance to pick up illusionary elasticity or phantasmal haste.

the trait where you take illusions do more damage seems odd too.. i dont think it applies to condis in any way and this is not a hybrid build. you would be better off taking cripple on death for another cover condi or just move those 2 points somewhere else.

So your main plan of attack is stealth.. your only form of stealth is decoy. You pretty much just picked any trait that said phantasm on it and hide around a corner spamming clones. This will only kill a person in the lowest lvl hotjoin if your opponent just does nothing to attack you or defend themselves.

maybe after the projectile is actually reflected and turned into a friendly projectile it can pick up finishers from friendly combo fields. just guessing. not sure that was the situation.

my condi/hybrid interupt runs scepter/pistol greatsword.. with the condi/stun signet.. i like the hard lockdowns more then the dazes most of the time.. chaining pistol stun/signet/greatsword knockback.. is a long stun as your iduelest /clones fire off shots.

the main issues i have with interupt builds. is the traits for interupt.. when im using hard disables putting imob or chill on someone that is stunned is a waste of time.

dont need to turn daze into stun since i just use stun. the only interupt traits i like are halting strike(waste in a hybrid build) and bountiful interuption( which i get the most use out of)

a trait that removes blind when you start casting a phantasm.. id use that. i know you can just auto attack. but when a thief is on your butt doing the chain blind thing.. it screws over your dps by a ton.

I have a tip.. not sure if it was said.

Start casting your heal/mass invis.. and use phase retreat mid cast.. or blink. to cover your animation and make it harder to interupt.

my idea would be.. reward only for your contributions to games not for win or loss. only cap points ( i know this would cause double capping.. maybe theres some way to discourage that) kills, objectives. so people are actually pushed to do the things that win games .. even if they are losing. it will help teach why they win or lose rather then just rushing mid and dueling then complaining about losing the game.

heh you dont read very well windsagio. i already mentioned decoy a 3 second stealth on a 40 second cooldown. and noone will run torch in any real build.

and mass invis is almost a 2 second cast time.. do you know how easy a 2 second cast time is to interupt compared to someone triggering an evade/block whatever on an instant cast.

if you mess up an instant cast ability on someones evade/aegis/miss whatever.. that means you messed up. if your enemy couldnt interupt a mass invis that means they messed up.

i keep hearing this “mesmers have alot more access to stealth” than rangers comment.

rangers have 3 seconds of stealth on a 9 second cooldown.. and a shatter mesmer spec brings decoy.. 3 second stealth on 40 second cooldown and mass invis 5 seconds of stealth on a 90 second cooldown..

im not a math scientist but im sure someone can calculate those numbers up and figure out that rangers have an ok amount of stealth.

the main issue.is that they buffed something with such a low skill floor/ceiling. so there are alot of people auto attacking thier faces off.

kinda… meh… way too many tears were shed over this.. and it was very underwhelming in game play. people heard helseth say 1 thing about torment and they lost thier minds.. but in game the torment thing is barely a factor at all. i thought i would be more impressed by illusionary elasticity also.. didnt happen.

yup.. bad luck i guess. continue on with what you are doing.. very accurate test btw. your staff produced lower bleeds even when you were using pve food and auto attacking with it and with 40 percent crit you will have lower bleeds.. if your build has a plan to stack bleeds with crit.. and you test it in gear with 38 crit yes your results will be poor.. but the fact that i need to explain this stuff even for a test just makes the whole conversation silly.

it dosent matter anyway because after the patch staff will blow gsword away. soo. last post.. waste of time. seee you after patch.

i agree with you there.. but complaining about the randomness of pu without taking into account that is almost a mechanic of mesmers is not right imo.. if we are talking about changing the whole theme of randomness because its a bad design i can go for that..

you understand that that is the basis of half of the mesmer abilitys.. on death.. you have a choice of 3 things happening in a perfect world you want one or 2 of those things happening more then the third.. same thing with chaotic interuption.. boon signet. staff auto attack. bountiful interuption, chaos armor..

they all have “bad rolls” for your situation.. or one thing that would benefit you more then the other choices.

the only point i have for saying pu isnt as great as people may think…. keep youur same exact spec and take off the pu trait. see if you die all the time or the spec plays the same without the trait..

if you can play the same with the trait on and off… you are riding the bike with training wheels even when you do not need them anymore. dont leave the training wheels on just as a form of comfort.. you can move that trait to something else and upgrade your build.

you just said a whole bunch of garbage without testing.. when i tested both alot. so.. less typing more testing.

i have played 50-100 games or more with both weapon sets.. scepter/torch staff.. scepter/torch greatsword… scepter/pistol greatsword… scepter/pistol staff..

the most offensive and damaging spec out of them imo is scepter/pistol greatsword.. if you want to test how bleeds are applied by the weapons in a passive situation.. just go summon 3 clones of each on the immortal training dummy.. in game it takes more thought because dodge clones attack youur closest enemy not the person you have targeted.

and that is even when playing each spec as offensive as i can get them… torch/staff with blathazars mantra heal.. pistol/gsword krait.. and any mix of runes signets.

not to say that playing defensive is bad.. but you have to think of (what is the point of my build) (what job does my spec fill in a game) (is my spec doing its job well)

the more defensive you make your spec the worse your spec is at doing its job.. because it is never the job of mesmer to bunker…

and i do not even play pu.. btw. this kinda turned into a condi conversation more then a pu conversation.

i dont care if people play pu.. my point is.. if you play staff because of its defensive nature… then you play torch because of its defensive naturre… then you play decoy/massinvis/viel because of thier defesive nature.. or trade veil for condi cleanse because of its defesive nature… then your spec is?

just saying that greatsword is more offesive choice even in a condi build.. you will lay down alot more bleeds with greatsword then you will with staff imo. so if your plan is mostly to play slow blink around alot.. stealth alot.. eventually win a fight.. staff may be a good choice.. or if you die alot(the same reason you would take pu) then that is fine.. if you want to condi bomb someone i wouldnt rely on staff for that as much.

after patch.. i wont say how strong ie will be till after testing.. but it will most likely be op.

Mesmers who point to PU as a Training tool or training wheels. If someone asks you to teach them how to Drive a Nail into a board, you dont hand them Thor’s Hammer right off the bat and tell them Good luck.

That’s actually a good (and quite humorous) point; I had never thought of that way before. Thanks

I recall teaching a new Mesmer how to play and starting him off with condi PU. He liked gs too much though but wouldn’t switch to zerk. So basically he was a PU Mesmer with a rabid gs (And surprisingly enough, he did quite well with it!).

But yea, while PU teaches you how to press your weapon skills and decoy, it really doesn’t teach you when or why (They can’t hit what they can’t see, so I shall spam my stealth). Plus, it’s just such a relaxed way to play… you can basically sleep through it sometimes. I would even duel UI-less and win. But I’m not claiming PU to be immortal by any notion. The point is that it doesn’t really provide much incentive to explore other playstyles, which is a shame, really.

next to pistol .. greatsword is the second best condi weapon for mesmer imo… the 3 hits with no cooldown that greatsword clones do with spacial surge stack 2x the bleeds as staff clones and the weapon is more useful from greater ranges. staff is mostly used for these specs because they are 100 percent defensive specs though. if people could play without crutches they wouldnt need pu in the frist place.

condi pu scepter/torch staff.. is such a bad spec that it is pretty much useless in every aspect of game. the place it actually shines is vs very bad people in 1v1.

it will be a tiny bit less useless with torment on auto attack.. but in reality.. it will still be a waste of a slot in any game.

just because 2 things are somewhat similar.. in a very vague way.. does not mean they should be treated the same.. a warrior and a necro have nothing to do with eachother and every skill they have is surrounded by a whole different set of mechanics stats and skills.. they are treated each as a stand alone package..

in the same way that engineer can have incindiary powder even though it is the same thing as dhuumfire used to be.. and dhuumfire was considered op on necro and not op on engi.

I have heard pu condi refered to as “the meta” over and over.. you understand it is just a trash hotjoin build right.. and is really bad in normal games.

it is not even “the most popluar build” it is a gimic spec that only works if you avoid all objectives in game or are carried.

you are being ignorant. every weapon has the same amount of active abilities. because scepter has a block and confusion beam dosent mean its auto attack becomes active.

ie is passive nomatter what the rest of the weapon does. for you to even argue anything else is silly.

are you saying that if blackwater uses staff then it is not passive? because your logic dosent even line up.

pu is complete garbage.. stop talking as if the spec is good. if you are dieing to a pu build you are the problem not them. especially if they are running 100 percent stealth up time. they do such little pressure that the whole spec is a waste of time for everyone on thier team.. and everyone on the enemy team.. they may as well be sitting in base afk.

a person who brings nothing to a team fight.. and also nothing to decapping nodes… plus no support… is a waste of space on a team and can be replaced by any other person in any other spec and your team would benefit.

if you think this complete weenie of a player who needs 100 percent up time from stealth is going to be auto attacking you with scepter.. you have never fought someone with pu.

people choose pu because they are so scared to fight they dont want to even show thier faces..

if they didnt play this way.. it would not be pu.. and pu would be a wasted trait for them.

anyone who has ever played mesmer since release and since before pu was buffed knows they do not need pu. shatter was the meta before this buff and people had to actually play mesmer.

once you have learned to play shatter pu is a waste of space because you know how to survive using your build and mesmers basic defensive skills.. and this translates to any spec you play from that point on.

if a mesmer isnt blowing its enemy up it is a waste of space.. unless you play some crazy support build.. which… ugggg.

shh with the pu.. i understand they may kill you if you fight them for long enough.. but just be happy that your enemy has that person on thier team over any other person..

because it is just giving you free points from holding bases that they have now way to contest in any fast manner.

i agree that very tiny things add up. but your kills arent based on your death traits landing or not.. if your enemy is burning defensive cooldowns to dodge on death traits that is silly vs someone who is phantasms. it is just going to be a bi product of whatever else is happening in the fight.

if the enemy blocks a phantasm.. and a clone happens to die at the same time.. or something like that. you get aoe blinded to stop you from casting a phantasm.. and it splashes onto a clone that happens to die..

it is not an active ability that now has counter play..

it is a passive ability that now has a just as passive counter.

and even most power/phantasm dont even take on death traits. for real the only people who are relying on on death traits for anythign are people running condi.

why would a power phant build of any kind rely on death traits to kill anyone.. or even defend thier phants. with 100 condi damage you arent relying on 1/3 chance for bleeds in any way. why would an interupt build care about this.. why would shatter care.. there is a very small segment of mesmer specs that these changes will bother.

the change is fine.. it isnt the end of the world every little change that happens. whatever they blind all your clones and cleave them down.. i have an idea.. dodge roll some more out.. stand next to those clones and torment block.. blind your enemy with torch stealth.. or not care and just make more clones. one defensive cooldown burned.

so blakdoxa… you know how the logic and physics of mesmer clone swapping work? you know the clones arent supposed to be little people you make.. they are illusions right.

why wouldnt it be just as logical that you place some method of swapping into the illusion and that item stayed where the illusion was destroyed.

but if we are going to get into claiming to know how fantasy logic works in a video game then the conversation is just nerding.

there is no reason why you wouldnt be able to swap to a dead clone.. unless you make one up and think it makes sense to you.. then fight for it on the forums.

it is a made up mechanic in a fantasy video game.. you chose how you want it to work then build the logic around that..

it feels silly to have to explain this to the “you cant swap with a clone that is dead” crew.

dodge rolling bombs out.. cleave that will kill your clone as they attack someone else.. aoe ability that is happening without aoe being thier main intent but just as a biproduct of thier normal play.

an aoe ability that does not take " requiring thought into using ones skills. "

requiring thought on using ones skills? the thought is either there is aoe around you can not use it.. or there is 0 aoe i may be able to land this..

i have played 1000s of games using sword mainhand and with the change to clone death it is so unreliable that i am unable to use it now. so. counterplay added.

the counterplay isnt.. hmm he still has 1 dodgeroll left maybe i should try to bait that out.. hmm has he used blind.. does he have condi clear. blah blah..

if a person has a passive aoe ability or just likes to put cirlces on the floor you can not get a clone to them without it dieing. it does not add thought to the weapon.. the only thought is “i wish i had a different weapon right now”

if you are running dagger for necro you can imob.. the counterplay is dodge / blind. if you are blind you can burn that blind with something else or clear it.. hwo do you clear aoe from an area as a tactic in using your weapon.

if you have played mesmer for any amount of time you would realize how broken the leap ability is since the patch. in most situations it does nothing because the clone dies on spawn.. not from “counter play” but just from any single skill that hits with any range of aoe.

but again.. if you do not main a mesmer.. please dont make me explain stuff to you about the profession and go back to your necro/ele forum.

that is a garbage reason.. what is the 500 health counter play to shadowstep.. or steal.

why should mesmer have added counterplay that is not actually counter play.. noone is killing the leap clone because they have god like reactions.. they are killing it by accident or by blanketing the floor with aoe garbage..

because you say “perfectly good reason” dosent make it an actual good reason.
