The discounts are for a few weeks, and people should realize this part of the offer simply doesn’t matter. Even if the WP costs were reduced by 100% and the BLCK went down by 80%, it would still be RNG boxes with nothing important inside, and both offers would still end sooner than you think.
This is the equivalent of the +4 vitality infusions or -1% damage from lords and guards infusions. Just a meaningless number that makes 0 difference.
Yeah this has to happen. Couple of my friends who casually tried GW2, are sometimes considering coming back to try the new activities. And when I show them, then they ask ‘can we play together’ and all I can answer is ‘umm.. i think.. not?’. Needless to say they don’t usually stay long if they have to play solo.. Very odd this was not a priority.
Nice one ^^ I wish sometimes I were on a smaller server to be able to try this, but it’s not possible on a medium server like Gandara. I love soloing.
There is some justified talk about revive being too OP when faced against a large force whilst outnumbered. Here I propose to introduce a new WvW ability you can invest in, and a new WvW mechanic that attempts to balance this issue.
- Life Essence (temp name)
Life essence is a bit like lives in oldschool games.
Everyone in WvW starts with one Essence Point (EP).
You can only be revived by others, if you have at least 1 EP, it is then spent.
If you have 0 EP left, you must waypoint back or use a revive orb (that always works).
You can invest WvW ability points to increase the number of EP you have.
It should not be too cheap, i.e. 20sp/EP
That’s not all. The EP are affected by the Outnumbered buff.
While Outnumbered, your available EP are doubled every hour the Outnumbered Buff is on. The server remembers how long your side was outnumbered, and applies that factor to your base EP.
Moreover, the higher your current EP, the faster you can be revived from death, but only if you have the outnumbered buff.
What this does is give the weaker side a lot more chances to get their dead up and defending, while putting skill back into defending against overwhelming odds, because the large zerg will loose people a lot faster now.
This does not punish anyone, only boosts the weaker side.
It only affects WvW. In PvE, EP are disabled.
Yay or nay?
Someone trying to be disruptive would do it at a tower.
That happened too some days back. Multiple trebs and rams in the garrison lord room and all over the keep. 500+ supply drained.
Today, another screen of the spy’s work…. funny how it coincides with us being in need of supply after the enemy takes our borderlands?
4 trebs in Titan.
Yeah I was astounded to see I can’t kick an offline person from the party to invite someone else. It’s like having a car without a brake.
Transfer. There are 22 Servers in North America and 27 in Europe. The game was not designed with the idea that people would frontload 5 servers and ignore the other 20. If you are getting skill lagged all the time in your server, odds are good there are too many people on it. I know I almost never get skill lagged on my server unless its a triple qued Eternal Map in the Lords Room of Stonemist.
Nope. Do you know what WvW is about?
‘Server pride’, server attachment, many of us grew too attached to our server, as it was intended by the devs. If I transferred now, assuming it were free, all that would be lost. The whole point of playing would be lost. Your solution works for new players, not however for people who played for months already.
How do you know it isn’t someone foolishly trying to do Ultimate Fabricator and Ultimate Besieger?
Especially now with the achievement rewards …
You’re playing the devil’s advocate here – you know it’s not the case.
If the siege displayed the name of the player, we could PM him and ask him why he’s doing it, before reporting this behavior. If he were indeed trying to work on that achievement, we would explain him to rather build arrow carts in keeps than trebs inside a shed for the same effect, but helping the server. That’s the problem, anonymous siege. The easiest and simplest way to fix it is to add player names to the siege. It is not unprecedented in MMO’s, LOTRO’s crafting had the crafters name attached to the items he crafted. If a 7yo game can do it, so can GW2.
Adding names to siege is also serving another purpose. Rewarding the people who place it by making their name ‘known’. Any new player may look at the siege and see some names popping up more often, these ‘siege masters’ will hence be known to many, and even though their work won’t give them more points than a zergling gets, it would still be a sort of reward. At the moment we recognize many of the commanders, but the siege masters are anonymous, because no badge is shown for their work.
Two birds with one stone.
So, we are looking into what we can do to deal with these sorts of problems, but they are very tricky to deal with. The threshold I always have in mind is that any change we make has damage legitimate play less than whatever we are trying to address does. That being said I think we have some interesting ideas for the future, but they are not guaranteed to make it out of testing, because they have to work. I agree that this behavior is frustrating, and we will do as much as we can to try and put a stop to it.
Thanks, it’s good to know this issue is known and being worked on
Not gonna happen. Deal with it. Spies are spies.
I do hope ANet sees it differently. It would be very disappointing otherwise and encouraging to exploit this and other things, when the devs don’t even care.
While I do try and take time out to respond to posts in our forums, it is also the case that time spent on the forums is time not spent getting something else done. Right now, we have a lot of balls in the air, so it’s less possible for us to post frequently.
Time spent on the forums and reading our suggestions and fixes > any time you may spend on working on ideas the players who actually play – don’t want.
But I don’t care for orbs..
I want the lag fixed.
I want the spy wasting supply situation fixed.
I want more rewards for people who scout, who build siege, who run supply, who upgrade, who defend, who repair…
I want a modified scoring system that depends on the population difference, so outnumbered players get more points for holding objectives = more balance in score, and more people coming to WvW because of that
I want palisades added to camps as upgrade to make them worthwhile to upgrade.
I want new meaningful abilities like dolyak riding.
.. who cares about orbs?
There is no reason and no story, only war :P
If you played Planescape Torment this is like it’s version of hell, the Blood War, an eternal war. Or like the Valhalla myths of the Vikings.
“ANet made me pick a main and I’m upset about that.”
Yep pretty much. I have no reason to level alts now, it makes me feel I’m loosing time I could be spending rising the rank on my ‘main’. Should be account bound, same with the commander title.
Gandara
It’s pointless to pay for upgrades of camps because nobody cares to defend even if called out early. Why should I be the one to waste my silver? I still have lots of things to unlock, not the least is bank space. I say let the commanders pay for the upgrades, they had enough to waste on a badge, they can pay for the rest too Also commanders are responsible for responding to aid calls, one more reason for them to pay for the upgrades they should be protecting. I’m done with upgrading until people start defending properly, and escorting yaks too when an upgrade is running. Until then, I’ll just hop on the wxp train with everyone else. That is all.
Today, the spy is back… we are a few taking back our borderlands, supply is short with so few, and on our way to the wormgate (north bay gate) we see this…
What I’m asking for is simple.
Display player name or player number on each placed siege to identify who placed it.
If someone places a lot of suspicious siege, we report it with screenshots.
If the player is caught 3 or more times doing this, then it’s clear he’s not just new, but a spy, breaking TOS (match manipulation, going against the spirit of fair play, not contributing to the team effort with good conscience or whatever else the TOS is saying).
He would then be prohibited from placing siege until the match is over (max a week).
If he does this again next match, he won’t be able to place siege for a month.
If he repeats if after that, his account will be permanently banned from placing siege in WvW.
Sounds fair?
This is by far not the most extreme example of such behavior. I ask everyone to make screens and post it in this or similar thread to make the devs act faster
(edited by zerospin.8604)
Extreme skill lag on Gandara throughout the day as well. That is between two servers clashing in the garrison, not even near SM. Even after all was done, the skill lag persisted for a longer while. What WvW needs most of all is server bandwidth upgrade, you can forget any other updates, this is the priority.
Situation today:
Most of the borderlands taken from us, we are outmanned, 40-15 or so.
We are struggling to defend the garrison against the blob, no supply left.
We own only the top supply camp, I go there and see this (attached screen)
2 trebs, on being deep inside the wooden structure, and a ram (outside of the frame).
Question to the devs:
If you really play WvW as you claim, how can you not have added a small text to each placed siege saying ‘Placed by <player name>’ still, after a year? So that we can make screenshot as report it, since it is clearly against ‘spirit of fair play and competition’?
And before you say that it’s a waste of resources, that’s BS, because you can use an ID number for every player in the game that is a single variable, 4 bytes its more than enough to identify everyone and does not take long to transmit. It’s not like millions of people are inspecting siege every second.

When you figure out a way to make a Vizunah Square/Vabbi and Blackgate/Eredon Terrace matches close a few hours before reset then you can start talking about rewards for winning servers.
I can and I did many months ago. It’s called parametrized score. By adding a modifier to the amount of points you get by capturing and holding each objective, based on the ratio of your current population vs the enemy’s current population (the players that are on the map right now), you can even everything out, so Vabbi holding 1 tower will even out Vizunah holding almost all 4 maps. Vabbi would simply get a lot more points for holding that one tower vs insurmountable odds.
This also fixes coverage, if a server has a big zerg at night, and nobody is playing from the other servers, that server won’t be getting almost any points for holding a map that has no opposition on it.
Say you have 10 towers each giving 10 points if all sides are equal.
Total available points is 100 then.
If one server has 90 people on, and the other has only 10 people on, the ratio would be 1/9
If that big server holds 9 towers, with this ratio it will earn 9 * 10 * 1/9 = 10 points!
The small server will earn also 10 points, for holding the one tower that’s left.
If the small server manages to somehow capture another tower, while having 9x less people, they will make over twice more points than the huge server. And that is fair.
See, evened out. Math can be truly amazing. This should be fairly easy to implement, since all it requires is counting the players (a number that should be already given..) and adding a variable or two to the scoring process.
Being engaged with the community and good patch notes are a hallmark of MMO companies that players love. Being uncommunicative or sloppy works for some shops, but also tends to create a negative attitude within the user base.
As an example, Turbine at least with AC always had fantastic community support and some of the best monthly patches of any game I have ever played. The game was far from perfect but the community was very forgiving and most importantly the game is still around nearly 14 years later.
Oh no Turbine is an awful example :S Not to mention they still haven’t released new PvP map in 7 years despite promises and advertisements to the contrary. I fear ANet will do the same ;/
The Devs are maybe busy working on WvW instead of sitting on the forums?
^The logic is strong in this one.
Actually it is far more likely that no dev is looking at WvW at all. Then just before next patch in few months, one lonely dev will quickly put together the next WvW ability, and call it new content. The evidence speaks for itself.
How about we get a choice? We have these silly elections in PvE that give things nobody cares about. How about a dev appears and gives us a choice what new WvW content should they focus on? We could have a list of 20 things, and vote which one we’d like the team to focus on. That would be the ideal thing to do.
So, responding on forums = caring?
Wouldn’t the fact that they don’t respond actually suggest that they are busy working with it instead of spending loads of time responding on the forums?
Yes and no.
PvP players get new maps all the time, and devs are responding.
We get nothing in WvW apart from silly skills that could be designed in 60 seconds, and no dev is answering.
See the connection now?
I call that a team of 5 thieves will win. First to any objective, insta killing enemies, then running away ^^
When winning or losing do not depend solely on skill anymore, an achievement for winning hardly means anything.
I’m not familiar with any achievement in this game that means anything?
There is a very easy way to fix all this fuss about this race.
Introduce time trials and leaderboards based solely on time. For example, you would get the title if you reach the finish in 3 minutes. But that’s not the end, you could furthermore improve your records and it would register in a global or server based leaderboard for all to see. That is an achievement. And everyone would have a reason to cross the final line.
Fusionfall, a game for kids, did that perfectly, with daily/weekly/monthly and all time rankings for each jumping puzzle. Odd that a ‘mature’ game like GW2 seems to fail at this.
(edited by zerospin.8604)
I tried a few different strategies and here’s what worked for me, this was pre any patch so it should still work.
- Pick Boast as your signature move
- Always bluff… if he interrupts it with a belch, belch back and drink water in that order.
- This should keep your own health from dropping as fast as his, with luck you’ll interrupt a heal or two and you’ll go into the next phase with a big advantage.
- Eventually he hits a threshold where he’ll start spamming his signature move.
- Use belch, drink water, drink in that priority unless you can get a bluff in.
- Once you get close to 3,000 or so health use boast.
- Try to time your abilities so you use belch at below 20% health to do a large amount of damage. If he gets too many belches, or your losing health much faster than him just surrender and try again. It will take some luck but it’s possible and this strategy is simple enough that you can spam games until you get lucky.
This was helpful, finally beat him ^^
It would make sense to use the existing centaurs / skritt to mount yak killing expeditions if they are not regularly exterminated in their camps.
I propose to introduce a new category of purely cosmetic WVW abilities you can invest in if you like.
The first that comes to mind is the ability to mount a Supply Dolyak, and ride slowly (like a boss) on it, towards the destination. You can’t steer it or anything, you just sit on it like on a camel and look cool while escorting it.
This could even be sold as a special ability on the blacklion market for gems if ANet wants more money.
I’d be the first to buy it.
Maybe if they would reward you for damaging the mobs that attack the dolyaks?
That’s already the case, you get 10wxp for killing each mob.
I know you might say that immobilizing them is how you counter it but it’s rediculous that doing that even needs to be done to kill someone who has already LOST.
I agree, and the rooting in itself is a ridiculous argument. Immobilizing them, really?
1. You have to recognize that it is an ele, which in the particle/zerg frenzy aided by low character quality is near impossible.
2. You have to fire the right skill that may be on CD, within a 0.5sec window and pray the lag doesn’t mess it up which it will, and that the root isn’t blocked or doesn’t miss.
3. It simply won’t work 99% of the time for too many reasons to list.
It makes me furious too that such OP skills exist when my class, engi, has the worst downed skills of them all. I can die with a bang, if I’m lucky, or just die. Notice the ‘die’ part.
The mist form must be nerfed so that it can’t pass portals. Alternatively, give each class the ability to jump into portals and be nearly impossibly to kill at the gates.
And while you’re at it, nerf the thief (damage should cancel stealth). That should be done regularly in any case xD
You have to actually hit someone with the powerup, merely using them won’t count, according o a devs response.
If you crossed the finishing line, the game should recognize it and stop bugging you with the kickout message. It’s pointless and extremely annoying. Not only are you forced to wait up to 4-5 minutes (my current record is leaving me with about 4min 45sec waiting time. yey..), but in that time you are constantly bugged with tat stupid message. I can’t even go afk.. -.- And no, I can’t leave and rejoin because for some reason the game makes sure I get back into a race with the same waiting time as the one I left! It’s like purposeful griefing.
Just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone in the community in sanctum sprint who after winning the title are waiting at the finish line in first so someone else has a chance for the achievement and title. Speaks volumes about a community that has people willing to this and wanted you to know that that genorosity was repaid this morning when I had the race handily in first, and hope that keeps getting passed on!
Your welcome
There is absolutely no reason not to wait at the finishing line. Say you arrived first, and have the title already. What does crossign the line first give you?
Do you get better loot? No.
Do you get a new title? No.
Do you get some kind of points that accumulate somewhere? No.
Do you gain some extra fame by doing this? No, people will dislike you more or not even notice.
and so on…
If you wait, there are only positives. You may make someone happy, and people will know anyway you were first, so it’s not like your ego will be damaged.
With the current design, shame on people who repeatedly win and take 1st place, sorry to say it. Especially if they know exactly what they are doing – denying achievements for others. It’s like camping the WvW jumping puzzle.
However, if ANet changed some things, and added a time trial into the picture, with new achievements, say, reach the end within 3 minutes, or Beat the current record holder.. then of course everyone would have a valid reason to cross the finishing line first. This race doesn’t work this way though.
The rewards are indeed disappointing. From the 2-3 PvP chests I received a load of skins… that I couldn’t use on my character. What’s even the point? Thanks.. for nothing I guess?
I know as of late there have been states that have changed their constitutions, to even the US Government changing many law bills so that words with “man” in them are changed around.
Good luck to them to try to fix the word ‘woman’ then
I wonder where that word came from. Women are people who woo men? xD
If you’re selling siege you likely don’t care about wvw anyway… otherwise there’s a dozen commanders willing to take donations on your server I’m sure.
I don’t quite understand why people who can afford to throw 100g on a badge would need donations lol. Shouldn’t it be the other way around, commanders giving out siege to people who follow them?
This was some nice trolling from Anet. The rich bought out all the mats at zero cost, and are now stretching the limits of long integer variables with their gold amounts. I bought quite a bit of candy corn a few hours too late, but still hoped to make a few gold on it. Unfortunately it turned out after wasting a significant amount of gold, that the supply boxes are utterly worthless, which meant that the candy corn I invested in, was also worthless. I expect all of the bought candy corn and most other mats except the most efficient few end up back on the TP very soon, because why in earth would I buy a supply box worth around 25s that gives the same or less than a 4s loot bag that drops in heaps in WvW and from many other mobs in PvE? ;/
The Dragon Bash festival introduced rich dragon coffers into the trading post which can contain with a low chance a “Recipe: Dragon’s Revelry Starcake” (+270 mixed stats; +5% critical damage; +20% magic find; +10% experience points). This recipe is account bound and provides the highest allround boosts in the game. This means you are forced to use your gems but even on buying 25 chests with 2000 gems you can still get no recipe.
Other players could say that the boosts are not worth it: It doesn’t matter how much higher the stats are because it is definitely a playful advantage. Also I’m sure there are enough players that would be happy to use these boost.
But other players could also say that you can buy the food directly at the trading post: Items on the trading post are commonly more expensive than making it yourself and there is no warranty that players are providing them all the time in the trading post.
Newsflash. You can buy gems for real money, then trade gems for gold and buy all the in game things like exotic armor and weapons.
Besides, you really thing +5% crit damage will give you any advantage? I don’t even use food or maxed gear and am doing just fine in duels, and when I’m not, it’s not because of buffs or gear.
This game is skill based. it means a skilled player in yellow gear and no buffs, will destroy a unskilled player in full ascended with uber food buffs.
Unfortunately story is the biggest weak point of GW2 in general. It was the risk I was willing to take when I got excited about it years before the release, I knew it would probably be just your typical generic fantasy. And it was. This is no Tolkien, the world is random and as deep or cohesive as a splash of water on the floor. The fact the world allows for almost anything, is in itself the weak point. That’s why I play only the storyless WvW now.
Each new event is the same, a new random race/faction with random armors and random culture that consists of a random few sentences, appears and does random things in random places that give you random things and random titles. That’s pure generic fantasy. For people new to fantasy this may be interesting, but for people who read J.R.R.Tolkien or Frank Herbert or G.R.R. Martin, this must seam like diluted water..
Something needs to be done about all the match fixing that is going on in the new mini game race.
People are running to the end, and then waiting for people to get there so they can get 1st for their achievement.
It’s making it pointless for people who actually enjoy the game to try and compete. Plus I’m tired of getting called mean for not letting others win when I come in fist a few times in a row.
This is CHEATING!
Seriously? I ALWAYS wait for others at the end. Otherwise all the races I’m in would be full of kittening about me being no.1 all the time. It would not be fun for me, not for the the other 11. I don’t know why, but I keep getting to the finishing line first, almost always, and since I play a lot (over 60 races so far) it would be extremely unfair to deny others the title. Especially people who don’t enjoy this and do it only for the achievement.
I don’t care if you got the title and want to be 1st, I will still let you be first first and won’t call you mean, so stop calling me, and others who do the decent thing and wait, a cheater. It’s called being kind and understanding. Quite a lot of people actually thank me for waiting, which is a reward much bigger than a text on the screen saying my name as the top scorer.
You get nothing from being first the 2nd time around. No achievement, no score, no points, no better loot, no renown nothing. Why then be a jerk and deny others the achievement?
50+ races. 90% 1st places. Well, 2nd, because I’m dancing at the finishing line waiting for someone else to take 1st, as I don’t need the title anymore. Luck?
Awesome job ANet, best mini game yet.
The lack of a reset option for WvW skills goes against the core ideas of GW2. It is very mind boggling indeed. Especially with new skills added continuously, how is anyone supposed to know what to invest in? What happened to quick build changes? Where does this new (to GW2) ‘better not break your build forever by investing points in the wrong things’ philosophy come from? Did they hire a new management team recently? :S
I have played sanctum spirit for last 2h, trying to get the victory achievement. After completing numerous races on 2-3rd place I realized that 60% of your finishing position depends more on your luck from the powerups than skill and acutal jumping. I have learned the track and I know exactly how to make each jump/dash yet i still lose most of the races. Mostly because of the numerous lightning storms (up to 3-4 times in a row) and sudden teleportations to checkpoints ahead of me. No matter how hard you try, you can’t do anything about lightning storm spam while jumping. In dragon ball all additonal attack skils had set locations and at least I knew what kind of powerup im picking up, here I have random chance and for most of the time I get blinding light (which is useless in most situations) when my opponents get light travel or aspect master.
My solution for this would be lowering the number of players (12 is too much and the race is a pure chaos for most of the time) or changing the powerups to make it visible from the distance on what it does. Summarizing, rng is ruining another part of the game.
I disagree, I win 90% of the matches (over 50 so far), so it can’t be luck based. I don’t even use most of the skills, these are not needed. Only 1, 2 and 3 are enough to win in most cases. 4th is very helpful, but not needed. You can even win if you enter late, or get knocked off a bit (but not too much). In one race I even went afk for a couple of seconds, and when I came back I was surprised to still be first xD
Some good advice above already. I usually end up first about 90% of the time, the key is to nail down your use of skill 2 and 3. You should combine skill 2 with the ubercharged skill 4, whenever you can, but I have won without using skill 4 multiple times so it’s not neccesary at all. But it does make your life so much easier though if you get skill 4 in the first 3 lines of powerups and superspeed your way to the lead in the beginning.
Learn the lay of the land, try to get the orange power crystals when you can, these make skills 2 faster and longer. I like to use skill 3 after skill 2 ends, to jump to next powerup or a line of crystals.
Here is an example vid, not my best run but you can see how to win without using anything but skills 1,2,3 and 5 (not really needed too that one, but I did use it).
It happened to me the very first time. I got thrown into the Battle for Kyhlo :P Only that one time though.
Why do u put people in the sanctum sprint while it has already started? -_- u have no chance of winning/rewards will be denied. so whats the piont? all people i’ve asked about it are annoyed by it.
I entered 12th, everyone was already out of sight.
But I won anyway ^^ It can be done. It’s not perfect but it’s just one race at best where you’re handicapped.
You don’t need to be 1st, except once, for the title. The rewards are the same for all.
The racing is fantastic, tops even the SAB. Completed the Frequent Racer 2 times in a row xD
So I was playing dozens of matches, always starting as soon as the gates opened. This time however I did as before, was first most of the way, but when I reached the chest, it said i started late? This needs to be looked at.
I’ll repeat it again, the correct way to fix this is for damage to remove stealth. You could add 1-2 sec of invulnerability when you enter stealth, but after that it’s removed by any damage except conditions that were already present. So any new skill that hits you, reveals you. It would still be pretty hard to find the thief, since you can’t target him with most skills, apart from ground AoE. Considering the insane mobility thieves have, a thief could still disengage and port to the horizon whenever he wanted.
