Can we get new hair/faces?

Would be awesome. I keep saying that character looks are more important than content in a MMO, and should be treated as such, but MMO devs always fail to see that. New faces, hair, and bodies should be released each month, but they are not and why? They would sell like fresh bread and are easy to make.

If a player doesn’t like his or hers character, they wont play for long. Ensuring that there is a huge diversity in unique looks for player avatars helps in giving the immersion needed to keep players interested. Who cares about epic content, if we have to play that content with characters that don’t look right and get us out of the game? You can’t ignore that part of the game.

I don’t think we will see any new looks. We have the same boring looks since beta, and even then we said we wanted more looks, more faces, bodies, sliders, hair.. but the petition fell upon deaf ears. Confusing isn’t it? They could sell it for gems, and people would buy such things happily for alts and mains, but they don’t seem to want to make a lot of easy money? Odd.

Absolutely not worth it. 40g for 1 mil if you’re lucky? That’s nothing. Think how long it takes to accumulate 1 mil karma. Chances are you will get 100% world completion and play 2 months of hardcore WvW and get close to 1 mil – maybe. Trade that just for 40g? It’s like trading legendaries for exotics – silly. What if they introduce a new way to use karma in a month or two, you will tear your robes and weep. Hasn’t a dev mentioned they are looking for ways to make karma useful again? Pretty sure they did say that.

I’m sitting at 3+ million karma and not going to waste it on a couple of gold coins.

Another way is to increase damage done to you based on the number of people around you, the more people close-by (almost on top of you) the more damage you take from ALL attacks. The opposite of distributed damage. Arrow carts should have that by default. +50% damage for EACH ally, clone and pet within 100 units of you.

And watch the blob spread out like butter over too much bread.

The recent PvE Evon & Kiel voting could be utilized to great effect in WvW. Imagine the devs gave us a couple of options to choose from. They can’t work on all, but they can focus on one – and we are the ones to pick it, through the voting system added with Evon & Kiel update.

Imagine a Council of the Tower Lords where all of the Keep and tower lords meet and each offers to improve one aspect of WvW. One may offer a new experimental siege machine (yay!), another may promise working on new masteries (booo!), another pledges to invest into new upgrades for camps (palisades!), another will work on polishing the existing maps (like making the centaur/skritt areas useful), and so on.

Vote tokens would drop through playing WvW. The more you play, the more votes you get to cast, the more impact you can make on what will be researched next. That way people who play WvW the most would have more influence on where to direct the WvW team’s efforts. Makes perfect sense!

This would also take some chains off of the devs, who are too afraid now to experiment with risky things, fearing it could break more than it adds. Let’s take the burden off their shoulders! If the majority says ‘we want to try this new risky feature’, let’s do it!

Votes could also be bought on the gem store. Another way to support ANet while finally having some influence on the game. This offers a new exciting posibility!

The Black Lion Shares! You can purchase these only with real money. The Lord of the Stonemist Castle himself is accepting these tokens. ANet sets a certain number of shares required to be bought. Once the number is met, and players deposit the required number of shares, the new WvW World Creation team, sponsored by you, goes on to create a new WvW map with all the bells and whistles! Think of it as a Kickstarter project disguised within the game.

Players funding content they want – that is the future.

Not bad, not bad at all. However I’d give a couple options for shots… one that is intended to do more damage to structures (solid balls o’ death) and one intended to do damage to smaller (think siege and people) things (such as grapeshot). I like the 1 supply to load, then a choice of what you fire. (Grapeshot could have an AoE type of impact zone where the solid shot is direct on target or tiny AoE for example.)

Yep there would be certainly multiple skills to choose. That also gives options for a meaningful mastery – with skills being unlocked instead of silly +x% damage masteries.

One other bonus is – the model is already in game, though would probably need some changes, to allow for visual vertical rotation.

It’s hard to nail down the supply costs and damage without testing it in the open field. But no siege has been perfect from the start. I just want some meaningful new mechanics like this added, to stir the status quo, not just masteries over and over again.

This is actually a really nice update for WvW when you look at it. Badges of Honor no longer taking up space? Thank you ANet! (Looks like they’ll all be across the entire account too.) Cleaning up the visuals in WvW? Thanks again! That will help nicely. Give them some credit, these little quality of life changes are nice.

Yes.. but the currency change and visual update have not been done for WvW in the first place. It’s game wide so the WvW team had pretty much nothing to do with it.

The only thing specific for WvW is the new boring mastery. Yey..

New Siege Machine - The Cannon!

You know the cannons in the Mists that stand on wheels and can be shot and big targets but need to be loaded? Why are they not in WvW?

Here is the idea.

Field Canon Blueprint
Cost – 40 supply to deploy. Immobile.
Range – same as an arrow cart.
Deals low damage to walls.
Deals medium (golem) damage to gates.
Deals high damage to players and siege.
What makes it unique and useful:
Can be rotated horizontally AND vertically to adjust the shooting angle, which gives it the unique ability to shoot canon balls on a parabolic trajectory, allowing to hit targets behind, or on the inner edge of the walls, including siege on supply depots.

However, each shot requires a canon ball, so it uses 1 supply. It’s aimed the same way a treb is but with the additional factor of the shooting angle. There is no indication where the projectile will hit, until you fire. That are the two measures for balancing it. If a team wants to put many of these at once, a lot of supply will be used to just get the angles right. But once the angles are right, it can clear almost all siege in a tower or keep and deal lots of damage to defenders.

So the enemy zerg put 100 AC’s and is blobbing in the tower?
No problem, Put some cannons and force them to go out or die under heavy cannon fire

Balistas are a joke and always were. Untraited AC >> superior balista with mastery. Why? No LoS required for AC. A single AoE player can destroy any balista used to defend a tower. Just one. Because the ballista has to be placed on the edge, to be able to hit anything, and therefore can be hit back with ease. Balistas do have some uses, but in most cases, an AC could do the same job and better just because there is no LoS required for it. I don’t remember when I placed a ballista the last time..

It’s not just the combat log, the entire chat window is made for a MMO for 10 year olds. You can’t even copy paste text? You can’t right click on someone’s name and inspect them? Or send a mail? Or add to party? It’s not a small issue at all, it is a huge issue. I’d love to give items like dyes and stuff away to guildies, but since I can’t just right click their names in chat and send a mail.. the whole thing becomes so tedious, I just put the items on TP instead. I’m almost never sending any mail just because of that. Somone posts a link in chat? Man, you are kittened.

People always complain. I got this TRIVIAL achievement on the 1st day, without any effort whatsoever. It is extremely hard not to get 50 points at least.

It it were 25000 points, that would be actually pretty hard. But only 2500? Please. It’s the best minigame yet released, more fun to play than anything else in the entire game, the ‘achievement’ is completed far to early, and people still complain? It can be done on the first day!! That’s how easy it is.

I say raise the mark to 25000 (25 thousand). Make it a real achievement for those who like the mini game. Not everyone needs to get it after all.

Or better yet, keep it at 2500 but the counter should only count your points when you stay alive and have > 100 points at the end. That’s how achievements should be.

I’d love it but you yourself have pointed out why it won’t happen. The need for a complete redesign of towers just to handle this new mechanic, then class balancing, etc. ANet will never do it.

The inevitable solution to Blob and Lag

When you look at the situation in WvW and the most critical issues – blobbing and lag – then look again at the WvW maps, something that was in-your-face since the start becomes clear.

At some point in the future, ANet will do the inevitable, and only reasonable fix for both of the problems.

1. They will finally agree that the maps they made are small, too small for the number of people on them.
2. They will finally agree that they can’t do anything about the blobbing because that is the best way to get most of the rewards.
3. They will finally agree they can’t spend millions on new server hardware to fix the skill lag.

What they will do then is pretty clear.

A. They will introduce Layers to all 4 WvW maps.
B. They will cut down the total number of people per map to about 60-90, about 20-30 per server, per map. That’s about the correct number for the tiny maps we got.
C. The excess people will be put in other layers. So there will be EB#1, EB#2, EB#3…
D. Lag will disappear, blobs will disappear, queues will disappear, defending will be more realistic, no 100-golem rush problems.. and so on.

That is the meta, everything will lead to this eventually, it’s inevitable. ANet could as well do it ASAP and focus on solving the new issues (scoring across layers, guilds wanting to stay together in 1 layer) the new mechanics will bring.

PS. Did I mention that layers are the solution for GvG matches?

Lag in WvW is Horrid

The lag is as big of an issue as culling was. In fact it makes the culling fix – irrelevant. Now you can see the enemy – and can’t do anything about it, not even heal yourself. You could as well not see the enemy at all.

Arrow Carts need a buff while Outnumbered

The blobs completely ignore superior AC fire, you can shoot for an hour and not kill a single person. Screen: 3 AC were shooting this morning at this crazy blob, and got 1 bag total – not slowing them down 1 second. That’s with AC mastery on.

I suggest a 250% or more AC damage and radius buff while your side is Outnumbered, to counter the rezzing and 5 targets limitations of a giant 40+ man blob.

I know AC can be overwhelming during equal blob-fights, that’s why the buff should only be applied for the Outnumbered side. Even if the defenders decide to put 10 carts in one tower, nothing stops the uber-blob to take the rest of the map… so it’s balanced.

It’s the Week of The Blobs! I wouldn’t mind it even, were it not for the unplayable lag involved even if I’m far away from the blob battle.

Also, outnumbered side should have a 300% buff on AC damage, the blob just laugh at superior AC fire.

Fuel for Golems (balancing idea)

I dont think golem fuel would bring that much balance into outnumbered match-ups. If any. Definately not worth the extra complexity.

Golems should not be able to use portals, waypoints nor be affected by any boons (Time Warp, precasted Switfness) nor inherit any attributes from the driver. The golems are the only siege that can move, but the drawback is they are very slow. Let’s keep it that way.

Well it is undeniable it would help towards balance (ofc not solve the issue entirely, as that would require a lot more things to change in all aspects of WvW, not just golems). Anyway, this also gives us a golem mastery line, that does not make them even more OP by increasing speed / damage.

I agree it won’t happen, but had to suggest it. What we’ll get in the end is the usual +20% damage, + 15% speed, + 20% AoE radius mastery line

What if golems needed fuel (supply) to move them? For example, if you enter a golem and turn it on, it consumes 1 supply and gives you a 1 min ‘Mobility’ buff, that allows you or anyone else to move it.

People with outnumbered buff could use golems without spending supply on fuel this way, just like now. It should slow down rushes and reduce the number of golems per rush. The amount of supply needed to run them can be adjusted based on the total number of golems your side has at any moment. The more golems, the more fuel each one needs to get the Mobility buff. I.E. <= 5 golems it costs 1 supply, 6-10 golems – 2 supply.. etc.

Golem skills could use fuel too. Shield bubble could cost 1 supply to deploy for example, but last a bit longer.

A new Golem Mastery line could then be introduced, that reduces fuel costs. This would give ways to upgrade golems via ability points, without making them even more OP in great numbers.

Ideas for Dolyak Mastery

And don’t forget the final cosmetic skill: Ride the Dolyak. You can mount any caravan and ride on top of it. Certain skills are available to you.

Hasten: give swiftness to the dolly for 10 sec
Shield bubble: repel nearby attackers and projectiles for 10 sec
Charge: dolly charges and knocks an enemy away
Kick: dolly kicks and knocks away an enemy that’s behind it

That’s how LOTRO handled it. The rewards were equally split between all contributors. If you were alone, you got it all. It didn’t exactly discourage zerging, even if loot was much smaller, because you were getting a lot more kills / captures. It gave a lot more incentive to go solo / small group.

It would however introduce some bad feeling towards people that stand near you, ‘kill stealing’, the very thing GW2 tries so hard to avoid. Anyone near you would essentially take away from your loot, experience, karma etc. People would hiss at others saying to go away somewhere else etc. Not sure if that would be better than what we got now, at least everyone is equal now.

The only one that needs to worry about internet speed in ANet, not us. Any kind of internet connection save for dial up, will work perfectly fine. Of course even if you have a 100mb/sec connection but have torrents/downloads running at 99.99% of your bandwidth, you will lag, but that’s without saying. The lag you see is however caused by ANet servers most of the time, which are far too slow for the numbers of people on map.

I have another suggestion. Dynamic events surrounding a dolyak caravan. We have it partially already in form of bats etc attacking them. Let’s make it more interesting.

There is a chance these events can happen to any caravan:

Event 1:
A dolyak’s hoof may get stuck in a road hole. The dolyak is immobilized, and needs a player to interact and free him. A menu pops up where you have to choose ‘Free dolyak’. Bots can’t do it. It generates an event circle and all involved in it. You get normal event rewards for freeing it.

Event2:
The supplies on top of the dolyak detach and fall down. You have to fix the baskets (via menu again), pick up any scattered supplies around it, and put on the yak again (via menu).

Event 3:
The dolyak becomes very much interested in a female dolyak right there on that grassy hill off the road. There’s no way it will end the flirting by itself, so a player must interact with it and put it on the right track (via a menu).

And so on.. endless possiblilities, adding variety to the boring caravan escorts. Menus would make bots unable to fix the problem, and since it can happen to any route, botting on them would be pointless.

Yet another proof that mistform is totally OP in WvW and should be greatly nerfed. That and stealth are the two most annoying OP things right now. The CD should be increased by a lot, the movement speed / distance travelled reduced, or make it impossible to enter keep portals. Really, a god mode skill in downed state? And now it resets WxP too?

I find it odd that people put more value on a t3 tower, as if the fact that you’ve made it more secure makes it more valuable.

afik, the towers are all worth the same tic-score, regardless of grade. So logically you should defend the weaker structures more carefully.

It’s rather like having half your money in the bank and half under your mattress. Then sitting in the bank-vault with a shotgun while leaving your front door open.

@OP. Because it’s easier than thinking about it, that’s why. Your last observation was right on the nail.

How can you not see why T3 towers are more valuable to defend? :S First of all someone spend gold and time to upgrade them. Secondly the towers can withstand attack longer and hence the zerg can come and defend them in time. Finally keeping towers is still important, if you dont keep towers, you don’t get points, if you keep ending last in the matches, you will loose people, if you loose people, you will end up outnumbered more often, which will lead to more people leaving, and guilds transfering to other servers and the total downfall of the server! Lol, and that’s why T3 towers are important to defend.

in the survival game the ghosts are just way too overpowering its not the karka like most people claim they can be escaped but its that call from beyond trap skill it does too much damage its too cheap and its too hard to avoid

the trap skills are meant to handle people that move, thats how it should be, BUT as of right now they are so powerful most people who actually get first place on a regular basis (including myself) have no choice but to stand still in a place so the traps wont trigger and just consume rations hoping for the best, not fun not fair, please nerf call from beyond immediatley

Absolutely not, the damage should be doubled and cost lowered to 3 sparks if at all. Most of the sparks are wasted on the karkas, and later on it takes ages to gather 4, and after trapping a player, it’s frustrating to see him just use a ration and shrug it off like nothing. Unless he’s out of rations the trap is pretty weak.

i dont like the start at all its just a frag fest of noobs firing headshots and meleeing for no reason while legit good players try to gather stuff and run for their lives, here should be multiple spawns at start nvm a circle

Watch the Hunger Games to understand why it’s this way. It’s ideal and it’s explained in the movie. In short, yes, the campfire and the goods are meant to be a slaughterfest. Who says you need to run towards it? Just run in the opposite direction – but it’s a mistake not not use the opportunity.

Myself, I go right in for the kill, use the grace period to gather points and usual end in top 3 even, often having more points than the top survivor. 50-100+ points per match guaranteed

As for the bugs, yes, the placement in the beginning is.. extremely badly done, people stacked on top of each other instead in a perfect circle. Why don’t ANet just put some circles and make people spawn in them or something? And advice: put cages around the campfire, and open the gates when the game starts instead of the really poorly looking chain-freeze animation. It looks like it’s in the late alpha state, not even beta version.

Karka need a nerf. A no-warning 1 shot attack is stupid. In my opinion remove all ‘attacks’ from the mist mode, as it destroys the survivors game as they can do nothing about it, or even get a warning.

You get a warning, the sound, and you can predict the attack too. It is entirely possible to get away when a karka spawns on top of you. Considering they cost 10 sparks, and are not a guaranteed kill, they are not OP in the least. Far too many players just escape them and you get no points. The traps are much better in many cases.

I would like to share the same opinion. It seems that being good and skilled at killing others just results in vengeful players.

The mechanics are PERFECT. Absolutely nothing needs to be changed.

So if you kill a lot of people, you wish to be somehow – rewarded? By getting special protection? But.. you killed a lot of people – that IS your reward, you got a load of points.

That is part of the fun and excitement, you killed someone and you know he is around, vengeful and trying to kill you. It’s creepy, spooky, even scary, since you can’t see them.

What about the player who died? Would you lock him in a cage on the other side of the island? Is he not frustrated? Shouldn’t he get a chance to get revenge?

If the dead players didn’t spawn on top of their killers, I bet you that all the people agreeing with OP in this topic, would create a topic asking for the mistforms to be spawned on top of their killers

Nonsense, got it on the first day without even trying.. you need to be more aggressive, if you just hide somewhere and sit still, of course you won’t get any points. I’m getting 50-100 points per game, and since it’s epic fun, the achievement came on the first day. You can even get over 100 points and top scorer, without being alive at the end. I’ve posted some tips in another thread along with a few vids how to do it.

Southsun Survival is perfect, the Arena is ok but has too many bugs and flaws inherent with the team and aspect oriented gameplay. Afkers, zerg ganking, shooting off into the blue, glitching – all that is absent in the survival.

The karka is needed to speed up the finish. Being a ghost is fun but once most of the sparks are gathered it becomes rather boring. That’s what karkas fix, they make camps inaccessible and finish off people quickly. It is exciting to have one spawn on top of you, and yet escape. That’s survival of the fittest.

If you are losing money in WvW you are doing it wrong. Really wrong.

Yup, I don’t do any dungeons and have lots of gold coming in each day, just from WvW.

Some tips:
- aoe tag tag tag anything, tag any enemy you see even if downed
- don’t upgrade camps if there is nobody to protect them, it’s a waste of money
- don’t upgrade anything if you’re loosing money in WvW.. there are enough people (commanders) who have tons of gold for that purpose. They area also responsible for protecting the places, so it’s only fair they pay for it. If you don’t plan to stay behind for a few hours with a couple of friends to guard and defend the place, upgrading it means throwing money away. A zerg will take it in few minutes if not guarded.
- dont follow anyone blindly, commanders often underestimate their own forces and lead people to their deaths. A wise warrior knows when a battle can’t be won and retreats to fight another day (and gather the loot bags ^^). Example: If the enemy has 2x more people and is charging you, don’t just stack up, you will die like sheep, if you have less people, you need to be the one flanking with veils, using surprise, then you have a chance vs superior numbers. A thing some ‘stack buff charge’ commanders often forget, and they find themselves wondering why their zerg scatters all over the area.
- don’t die, have multiple ways to survive and get out of the enemy melee train and back into your own people
- press your area loot key often while fighting, to pick up bags as they fall

Yeah all it will do is fill the map chat with ‘where is the zerg’ coming form every single person logging on. You can’t fix is this way because zerging is the best way to do anything in WvW right now, and grants maximum rewards. To discourage zerging a lot of other mechanics have to be introduced.

…not really sure about the OP’s comment on points, though. They seem pretty slow in coming to me.

I’m getting 50+ points per game, and because I really like it, I did the game a LOT Not for any achievement or even loot – just couse I liked it.

Umm speedy kits + rocket boots + riffle 5. I have no problems to keep up with most classes, only few specific builds of thief/warrior/ele can outrun me if they really burn their cd’s. You can easily have perma swiftness, there is no 2 sec break.

The 10 trait points are a bit much, but it’s perma swiftness.. and perma vigour if you trait for that. And after the fix, rocket boots are just must-have. Too awesome for mobility and shortcuts, escape is better than elixir S, and you can chase people with it pretty easily.

Skill 2 needs to be merged with 3 : pull to you, then knockback with AoE. That’s the interrupt.

Skill 3 should be an escape skill, I’m not asking for the OP mistform, but something similar that you can target, move away and enter keep portals. Why not:

Rocket boots
Ground targeted like Riffle 5, same range as Mistform, but you are not invulnerable to attacks. Can enter portals (just like with Riffle 5) Cooldown 10sec. Still a lot less powerful than Mistform which is, mildly speaking – god mode.

Got a ticket and 2 scraps in my first 13 chests.

Blew 45g on about 15 more chests or so. No ticket, 3 scraps, and some TOTAL makeover kit and transmutation crystals. And Midnight Ice dye!

I can’t say I’m not disappointed, but I am pretty satisfied with what I got from the chests.

What baffles me though, is the fact after 2 weeks we will need 5 tickets to get one Aetherized weapon, when it’s hard enough just to get one.

You’re joking, 5 tickets? I must have missed that somewhere, now that is unreasonable! That’s from 300-500 dollars on a weapon (not counting random tickets)…

That’s… what… huh, that’s just not… I don’t…

See it this way:

The skins could be only available during this event, and not again until next year (or ever). But, this time you can still buy them after the event is over, but for a really high price. The price is crazily high, but still better than no price and no skin at all. I’m not playing this lottery any more, got 10 keys + 3 from drop, spent 32g on it, got a celestial dye (around 20g) so part of my gold was returned, and I’m done with the lottery. Was a nice try, no luck though. 5 total scraps. Luckilly I don’t even like the skins, just hoped for a lucky 80g skin to sell on TP.

The bottom line here is, things are improving.

Before, you either got a skin or not. Now you get scraps so some progress is happening. The drop rate should be better though. I’d give 100% chance for a scrap to drop, 25% chance for 2 scraps, 5% for 3 scraps, and 1% for a ticket. But I’d rise the cost of a ticket to 40 scraps. This way, each chest opened would contribute to the ticket.

I got the 2.5k achievement already, I can advise you to be aggressive in the beginning, you have a grace period, even if you die, you will respawn near powerups and far from most people, so use it, and try to hit/kill/trap as many as you can in the starting camp.

Once you get out into the wild, secure some rations and find a few arrows, but don’t linger too long collecting stuff, go and find people to use the arrows on, otherwise you will loose potential points and waste arrows.

When you become a spark – collect collect collect. If the camp is empty, move to another where there are more of the sparks. Once you have at least 4, find a player and place trap 3 in a way that he triggers it. If you happen to spawn early and get lots of sparks, summon a karka in the camps, preferable if there are multiple players about. Use the light speed all the time to move about. If you don’t have 4 points and its late in game, use skill 1 on players, it’s still a trap and gets you a few points even if it doesn’t
do damage them. My record was 109 points in 1 match – without even being 1st.

Farming badges is like farming spikes – completely pointkitten th are worth a few copper. Now heavy loot bags – that’s a different thing.

Already got my 2500 point achievement, and I didn’t even try, it happened while playing and I’m still not bored of it :P

The best mini game yet, surpassing Sanctum Sprint and Super Adventure Box.

It has almost no flaws – no problems with teams, no afkers, no people joining late, no pointless waiting. It is a huge difference from the Battle Royale we had in beta, a big improvement. I like that it copies the Hunger Games, it really works well, all the weapons and pickups.

So yeah, I’m usually pretty critical of everything but can’t find a flaw in this one.. unless that I want it to be permanent and it will probably be locked away again

Oh yeah – I love the karkas, they are a big adrenaline rush near the end – monsters that are actually fearsome and deadly. Please don’t nerf them.

8 chests – 3 scraps and a lot of garbage, I do not advise to play this lottery. Sure, a 80g skin may drop, but you will spend hundreds of gold to get it so.. math is simple.

Skill lag is not based on the client’s hardware, it’s based on the server’s hardware. The way to fix skill lag is for ANet to buy more/better servers.

Or for ANET servers to have less simultaneous calculations to perform which could be achieved by lowering the WvW map population caps or finding ways to strongly dis-incentivize clustering together of players on a map.

I have been saying this for months, lowering the WVW population caps is the easiest and most cost effective way to deal with skill lag.

It wouldn’t work. Skill lag happens even when only 2 servers clash with big numbers. This means that even if you cut down the population by 33% (remove a server) it would not change a thing. 50-66% cut may give some results but that is a big cut. Where do you propose the rest of the people who want to play would go, 8 hour long queues? :P

75pts – shield bubble also repels enemies, like the breakout event bubbles
