any wvw function that can be controlled by players will be exploited by players. i.e. structure upgrades, siege trolls that kill golems and build tons of useless siege, this, etc..
Of course it would be exploited by some, what is your point? Should we remove all siege from the game, and structural upgrades as well? Not to mention class skills – so many exploits there like porting through doors.
Just because something can be exploited does not mean it’s bad. We just deal with it like we deal with the other player controlled things.
This suggestion is very general, of course we can gate it behind a Dolyak Mastery, requiring you to spend skill points to be able to actually take supply from a dolyak, and that would scare off most uneducated players who would not spend skills on something useless to them. As for trolls.. well they are always there and are no valid argument. That should never be a reason to deny a game new options.
It would be a nice idea to allow allies to take off supplies from a passing caravan. It would make the dollies even more important to protect and to kill as well as give extra options for obtaining supply quicker at the cost of reducing the amount of supply that reaches the towers.
And of course there are the new titles – The Dolyak Looter, and Supply Leech :P
I really do not understand the opposition to this idea from the Dev Team. It pigeonholes people into one character, which doesn’t even help their bottom line.
Yup I still can’t play alts in WvW, because it feels like a waste since I could be gathering WXP on main. GW2 feels like a 1 character – 1 class game to me No wonder I keep getting bored and leave for 6+ months at a time.

How long does this last?
Lasts about 5 seconds and it’s not 50% but 33%. It only says 50% on the buff, but the speed is the same as Swiftness, which sucks if you have access to that anyway.
Stay together and use all stuns and AoE’s you have on the ground around you. With 2 of you you may just be able to make him go away. But realistically, you will die anyway. A thief can take you down in a few hits before you have a chance to react, blind you, stealth, port away, regen to full, and repeat.
All you can hope for is that it’s a bad thief. Then AoE may just work. Otherwise you are dead. Decent thieves laugh at your AoE. At least from my experience meeting them.
As for escape.. forget it. Thieves are the most mobile class in game. Not only that, they can spam cripple you, and port towards you.
You should be able to see them from far away, they aren’t always in stealth. If you can recognize them, just move in other direction or towards friendly towers.
Please get people not supporting the world out of it and make dueling an Open World option.

FYI, sPvP got a whole MAP and not one but multiple, since release. Tell me again, what did WvW got since release? I mean substantial. Culling, masteries and wxp ain’t it.
And in latest patch? Runes, what runes? Maybe PvE got runes, WvW certainly didnt. Champ bags? Sorry, but that’s not WvW specific. The WvW team had nothing to do with it, or the runes, or the effect culling.
Comments like yours are adding to the problem. You are enabling them to dismiss valid criticism just because you don’t see the larger picture.

Agreed, it should be removed especially that it doesn’t even work as advertised. I would add this instead:
Chance to pick up extra supply above your max limit:
50% – 1 extra sup
25% – 2 extra sup
13% – 3 extra sup
7% – 4 extra sup
5% – 5 extra sup
For me super speed is no different that swiftness either. Must be capped then and falsely advertised. So we got a new ‘amazing’ mastery that advertises 50% speed boost, using points you can’t refund, and then gives you the same old Swiftness speed that many characters have for longer than 5 seconds anyway. Talk about bait and switch!
Is that a new hidden ‘feature’? When you drop a ram very close to the gate it disappears. Completely. Threw 3 rams at the blue keep gate, and all went to Davy Jones’ locker.

Was very easy on first try on my grenade/riffle engi. Knocked him back to the edge and killed with ease. The ooze seemed to stay in the middle.
We were two on map taking the garrison back for 30 mins on Gandara. After failing the lord room, we had to ask in our kins for help (sic) because nobody logged onto the map in all the time (sic).

One of the main problems that discourages defending is the fact that the few people who actually stay back, wait for ages, and report a incoming blob, are often punished additionally by being killed and the tower lost anyway, because the blob caps too fast.
- you stay in tower and guard it
- you forfeit loot
- you forfeit chance for a precursor that can drop from mobs and players you are not killing
- you forfeit karma
- you forfeit experience
- you forfeit advancement through WxP
- you forfeit action and fun
- you spend money to upgrade your tower
- finally! the enemy blob comes to your tower! you call out ‘INC’! then the blob breaks down the gate, kills you and takes your tower.
OR
- run with the BLOB and bathe in riches, progress, action and fortune

No, hasn’t happened to me yet. If it was in SM, I can imagine that due to lag, the position of your char on your pc and on the server became divergent, and you somehow fell to your death on the server, without seeing it on your screen. Then the server sent you the info you are dead. Just a speculation.
Lol we already have a big problem with people on our own server wasting supply in favor of the enemy. This idea would open gates for all kinds of spies and ninjas that would work for the enemy, spying, wasting supply, trolling siege in blobs, and you could not do anything against it.
I wish they finally fixed the bug that removes the buff on downed state, while the skill description clearly says ‘removed upon death’ – but you loose it the moment you get into downed state.
Yep that’s why all the ‘CC thief and nuke’ advices from people who only kill uplevelled thieves is worthless. A decent thief will laugh at your roots. Root him, he wil lstealth, and port away in random direction – still rooted but you need a zerg of elementalists to cover the area with deadly AoE. There he will regen to full, drop conditions, regain initiative – all while invisible, and then kill you easily.
It has been confirmed that WvW champions like tower lords will also drop the new bags. AFAIK the bags will have a chance on unique skins and crafting mats.
Will this mean nobody will upgrade or defend anymore, and the blobs will go around in circles on the map to PvD and flip towers for these bags? It already is a thankless thing to upgrade or stay in a tower to scout, but with the new patch, if you upgrade, you will reduce your future loot, because it will hinder the enemy to flip your tower, and you won’t get the lootbag for flipping it back. And if you stay in the tower and not go with the blob, you won’t get the lootbag from the towers they cap. What about those who spend ages to treb and open walls from afar? They too won’t get the lootbag, and loose chance for skins and mats.
Do not confuse this with the karma train. Anyone who plays WvW regularly sits on millions of karma. Defending towers also gives karma and other rewards like WXP. But defense events do not grant the new bags, do they? There is nothing but server pride to stop a “lootbag train” to go around the map flipping towers, and not fighting at all except when it’s unavoidable. I could imagine each side accumulating 100+ golems, because killing enemy golems is a mistake in the next patch – the more golems each side has, the faster the flipping can go, and the more lootbags you can get. At least 1 / 5 min if you’re good at it.
I don’t mean to spread end of the WvW rumors, but.. it could happen, maybe not at all times and not in a such drastic version but it is yet another nail in the coffin of defenders and upgraders and one more reason to BLOB everything! :P

This is already the case. Upgrades and defending hinder the karma train.

It’s not at all the case. Nobody who plays WvW needs karma. And you get both karma and WXP for defending. You don’t get loot bags with unique skins and crafting mats for defending. My question still stands. Will it be limited in any way or are upgrades and tower defending a thing of the past, and all we can expect after next patch are infinite golem rushes vs undefended doors in circles around the map?
Just tossed all my gold (100) into MF using bought exotics + the MF stones. No precursors, 2 exos worth more than 5g, rest junk.
It’s true, 3 greatswords (or any exotic wepaon) + MF stone will give a random exotic weapon. In fact I got no exotic greatswords back from using all greatswords at least 12 times. Later I changed to dropping cheapest exotic weapons at random and got more ‘luck’ with the two 5g+ weapon drops.
My 500 votes are still going to be cast. Probably on Evon.

You can target AC through the gap above gates, into the towers. Are you sure it’s not that what you’re seeing?
I’ve never seen this happen but it makes perfect sense. I mean with WxP gain being higher on bigger servers, and WxP being character bound, people will naturally go to the higher servers just to get the masteries on all alts, something impossible on lower servers. If you want to play alts in WvW and have all the masteries, transfer is the only way.
I really want to try playing alts in WvW, but since WxP was introduced, it makes it a waste. I believe it also makes playing characters < 80 in WvW a waste. Don’t the rank chests have a chance on precursor / ascended only if you’re 80?
So I’m stuck on my main until I get all the world mastery points. But they are adding new ones all the time… And once I get all, and go on an alt, they will all be gone.. just awesome.. not.
Saw this happen couple of times, reported it once. It seems sometimes, after taking a keep that had reinforced gates, the previous gates don’t disappear, and wooden gates spawn on top, while the ‘spawn’ effect is never removed, hence the shining and rubble particles. The model of the reinforced gates sometimes stays on top of the wooden gate, but without the collider, so once you take the wooden gate down, the reinforced model is still there, but you can pass it freely. Also, this is client-side bug, most likely caused by packets not arriving (that inform of object despawn), because I’ve seen people talking about a door being bugged this way, while it was fine on my screen.
why isnt there armor skin that is exclusive to WvW?
WvW is the unwanted, deformed pretender, born out of marriage in the royal family of GW2. sPvP is the pretty, shiny royal heir and ANEt is its Lord Protector. Do you know now why the latter gets all the things and the former is locked in the tower, dressed in rags and living on bread crumbs the rats bring?
Why would you even want 2 week long matches? The score is almost always determined on 1st day, and only rarely do places change during the week. And even in the case of the close matches, the close match is only between 2 of the 3 servers, the 3rd is always far behind – would not be fair towards that server to keep punishing it for another week. ANet wanted 2 week long matches, then they saw it is not realistic, and ditched the idea, simple as that.
Had this idea after hearing reasonable complaints when a duel or even a friendly convo between 2 enemies was interrupted by other players or even a zerg.
What if you could select the enemy, right click on his portrait and pick “Challenge for duel”. You get a red flag next to you (like the evon / kiel icon), the enemy gets a yellow flag. If he does the same to you, he gets a red flag too. It means you both agreed to a duel. It could be hotbindable, to quickly press a key and challenge one enemy among a group. Everyone would see the red and yellow icons and it would be clear who is challenging who.
This is seen by all around. It gives no benefits, it’s purely visual, and is removed once you go past certain range, like 1500 from one another.
This would give people a visual indication that these people are in a duel and don’t wish to be interrupted. You can still ignore it and zerg them of course.
One could also add another option to ‘Converse with enemy’. It would give white flags to both of you as long as you stay close to each other. Again, it’s just a visual indicator you two are talking cross server, while standing in the field – for whatever reason. It happens sometimes.
This shouldn’t be hard to implement, can’t be abused in any way, and has no disadvantages to speak of, yet would be very handy.
I don’t see the point of solo roaming, even on a thief.
#1: You don’t accomplish objectives that well. Maybe you can slowly solo a camp or if you hide well you can solo a tower, but in general forming a 4-5 man does things so much quicker, offers so much more power, and offers so much more safety.
#2: You don’t get that much loot. In group vs. group you get a lot more loot bags and experience than wandering around picking off enemies 1 by 1.
#3: You are bellying yourself up for ambush by anything that is built for an ambush, or also anything that doesn’t roam alone. This makes solo roaming more expensive due to repair costs.
Counter point:
I don’t see the point of 5-man teams. For all the reasons you listed, a zerg is much better Or a blob.
It all boils down to how someone likes to play. I like to solo sometimes.
RNG everywhere. If your luck is bad, you will never enter WvW when a queue is on xD Just like you’ll never get a jade weapon ticket, or a precursor :P
Gave up months ago to try to explain why queue should be account based and not lost upon character switch, and yada yada like that. Had no idea it wasn’t even a FIFO queue. WvW is the forgotten part of GW2 – that is correct.
To clarify we had both QA and our internal core tests go through the content a whole bunch. The QA team focused on making sure that every profession could complete every boss (there are 12) with a reasonable level of skill and gear. The core testers mostly did what they do best and beat the pants off of the stuff we throw at them and tell us whether or not it was hard enough. I feel its worth mentioning that we would schedule tests for an hour or so and some of them would stay all day trying to beat it. But they were having fun, and that’s whats most important to me.
Queen’s Gauntlet is definitely the more challenging side of the Jubilee. That’s why it has its own achievement category and rewards. There’s even a gambit system wherein you can increase the difficulty for a better reward.
It’s not quite like anything we’ve ever done before. I think some of you are really going to have fun with it.
I hope it will actually be any kind of challenge. MMO’s in general lack any kind of solo challenges. A solo player that wants challenges usually has to resort to soloing group events/dungeons/fractals/missions. I hope you added some kind of scaling like in fractals, that raises the bar into infinity to ensure everyone gets a challenge
Agree it is an issue. What looks like a wall of blob can turn out to be just a scattered and dying bunch of people. Especially in SM lord room as you look into it.
Already been suggested a year ago, no change so don’t get your hopes up.
The correct way to handle this is a simple forced respawn timer, 60 seconds after death. Now, with the masteries, you could add a new mastery that extends that period by 60 sec per tick up to 5 minutes but it should cost quite a bit in points.
Anet is no different that most online games, they won’t address the issues until it starts to ruin the game on a massive level. Just like they won’t take the time to ban people that drain supply or spy on server chat. This hack above is honestly less of an issue since it only stops OP from getting a kill, not screwing the whole server over.
What if it were a mesmer and ported an entire blob into inner fortified SM and proceed to do it with all other towers?
What Devon is referring to must be the exponential increase in the amount of data needed to be transferred around when the number of AoE targets is increased. Pretty sure one of them mentioned it’s a O(n^2) complexity problem, which means to fix it you need to completely rewrite the system, or spend a lot of cash on bandwidth + processing just to handle these specific zerg fights. Problem is that they won’t spend that time and money just to fix the occasional blob fight, if all the other areas of the game run just fine on the current hardware. As I keep saying, WvW is just a side game – the main game are the festivals. Completely backward if you ask me :P
What your computer displays graphics-wise is completely unrelated to skill lag. You can test it yourself, go to a 3-way SM fight, lower your graphics to the lowest settings, then raise to ultra, and try using some skills in both situations. You will see no difference.
All this patch does is reduce the amount of particle effect’s being spawned on the screen. Info about particle effects is not being transmitted from, or to the server. It is irrelevant to skill lag, might help with FPS lag though if your PC is slow.
