Everyone should keep in mind that the value of gold is mostly defined by its scarcity.
All paths are worth 20 tokens.
Each unique path has a daily bonus of 40 tokens, for a total of 60- tokens the first time through on a given day. This resets at normal daily reset time.
What’s the paticular story step name? There are many steps that involve disguises, so I’m trying to narrow down the issue.
It’s been covered in other threads, but it’s a to-be-announced achievement related to the special October holiday content.
I ran Prime95 all night and no errors at all – everything passed. There is nothing wrong with my ram.
Hey, Bakau — would you mind running with -analyze and posting the results? I notice that you’ve reported encountering this a lot, so you could also consider running with -analyzeFull and attaching the report rather than posting it inline. This will at least give us an idea of what the corruption looks like and give us some clues.
Do you happen to have GW2 installed to an SSD? If so, you could try moving it to the HDD and see whether it helps. I’ve seen a few posts and heard various anecdotes about some SSDs having issues with “silent corruption”. As of yet I don’t have any solid sources on this, but it’s easy enough to try.
Hey all, just letting you know that we are still investigating this issue. Though it would be super helpful if you guys can provide some more specific details, as some of the responses are a little vague.
-Roughly for how many hours or day has this issue been affecting you?
-Roughly how many tournaments did you win(4th place or higher) during this time?
-Roughly what percentage of those tournament chests did you actually receive?
-Do you happen to know if your roster teammates earned their reward chests?
-Do you play on a US or EU server?
Providing these details will speed up how fast we can narrow this issue down and roll out a fix. Thanks.
Neither of those are bugs, the first time you weren’t on the story step yet, and the second time, you were disconnected when the group completed the dungeon.
Here are the results as raw text for those of you using them on websites, etc.:

MISSING UPDATE:
General
- Ancient wood, Orichalcum Ore, and Mithril Ore nodes respawn rate is now tied directly to characters and set to respawn one day after your character gathered from it.
An update! By popular demand and because it was a simple numbers change we lowered the net on any systems we felt were too harsh. These are not the last number changes, but this should help a lot an you can expect to see this change in the very next live build which should be in the next few days. We are not currently adding any new systems now or in the foreseeable future. There was an update a little while back that limited oricalcum farming via server and overflow swapping. This update was too harsh on normal players and we will try to increase the supply of these resources again soon. This requires some more number crunching and testing than the other change we made so it might take a bit longer.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi mcl,
Thanks for pointing that out! It was my intention to be clearer on that point but that seems to have gotten lost in my attempt to acknowledge that better hardware is better.
So, let me be very clear: better hardware is better and will generally allow the game to look prettier but the issue with asset loading is not hardware dependent so buying an uber gaming rig won’t really help with the invisible player issue at this time.

Would appreciate more information on this and how to best avoid running into problems.
Short answer: if you’re playing a Sylvari, don’t group with someone when they choose their order. The issue I’m aware of happens to secondary players who choose to advance their story past the “choose your order” story step, but never actually chose an order. (The player who “owned” the story step will be fine.)

(Continued from the previous post…)
I’d like to take a moment to briefly address a few of the points of serious contention that have come up in this thread and hopefully clear up any confusion:
This is a multi-faceted issue that involves both reporting from the server to the client and client asset loading. Much like a super villain team-up these two parts of the issue are combining to make an unpleasant situation worse. We’re pursuing both parts of the issue and hope to see incremental improvements as we get fixes in and tested.
The reporting issue is really all about performance tradeoffs. Every decision that the server makes about what to report to which client consumes resources, as does the act of reporting itself. These resources (server CPU, network bandwidth, etc.) are finite and are the same ones that are used by every other aspect of WvW as well. How we make use of those resources determines the number of players we can support in a given map and how smooth the simulation feels. The system that we have in place now constitutes an attempt to strike a balance between a perfect simulation that handles all the details and makes them available to every client immediately and a simulation that supports a reasonably large number of players while maintaining smooth performance under most gameplay situations. This is a true dilemma because we really want to achieve both of those goals completely and simultaneously but that just isn’t possible at the moment.
Could we throw more hardware at the problem? Maybe, but the servers that we’re running on now are Serious Business™ and simply buying faster CPUs likely wouldn’t gain us even a linear increase in performance. With today’s hardware I believe that we’re likely to gain far more improvement from code changes than we would from slightly faster CPUs. As you might imagine the way that we manage client/server communication is pretty well core to the way our game works so making changes to that system is a tricky affair that must be undertaken with great care and much testing. Further, since we can’t really create any more resources (CPU, network) every substantial change involves making a hard decision about performance, scale, and completeness of the various aspects of Gw2. Some of the most robust, correct, and appealing solutions to this issue are also the ones that will take the longest to implement correctly, thus adding response time into the mix of factors we need to consider. In a situation like this, sadly, there are no easy answers. That said, we’re evaluating possible changes to reporting even now and are committed to making WvW into the best experience we can.
The client issue relates to the way that we load assets when preparing to display characters. WvW hits this more than most other parts of the game because players are pretty much the most complicated characters that we have and, especially at higher levels, they tend to be quite varied (so things like texture caching don’t help us as much as they might elsewhere in the game). WvW tends to have much higher player densities than the rest of the game so that’s why we see these issues coming up in WvW more than elsewhere. This asset loading issue will be influenced by client hardware (kind of like saying water is wet, I know) but we see this issue crop up on even high end systems so it’s clear that hardware is not the major determining factor. So, while better hardware may improve the situation a bit it won’t make the client issue go away completely. At this point we have a solid repro of the client issue and we’re aggressively pursuing fixes.
All of us who have worked on WvW (and many of those at ArenaNet who have not) are deeply invested in making WvW the best it can be. I personally have dedicated over a year of my life to developing this game type. Other have spent even longer. I know it can be terribly frustrating to deal with these issues (I’m a gamer too, I’ve been there!). I also know that frustration can make it tempting to believe that our silence on the forums means we’re ignoring issues with the game. Please believe me when I tell you that is simply not the case. We must always balance our time on the forums with our time spent working on the game. If we go silent for a while it’s generally because we’re busy working hard so that the next time we post we can have something substantial to tell you.
TL;DR: The issue is real, we’re aware of it, we’re working on fixes/improvements, the fixes/improvements are complicated and I can’t provide you an ETA.
Keep fighting the good fight and we’ll be back to let you know when we can share more details.

Hi all,
I just wanted to pop in to mention that we haven’t forgotten about you.
We’re aware that this is a serious issue and we’re actively working to improve the experience. I can’t talk about specific work that we’re doing yet, but I can say that we’re attacking the problem on multiple fronts and working hard to get WvW into a better state. This is one of those issues that involves multiple systems interacting in sometimes unexpected ways and as such it’s tricky to address. I would love to be able to snap my fingers and fix it today (which would make me a wizard, so that would be doubly awesome) but unfortunately the changes we’re working on will take time to implement and test thoroughly. Our goal is to make WvW the best experience it can be so we want to be very sure that any changes we make won’t have unintended, negative side effects.

To clarify, that is a piece of concept art to set the mood for Halloween.
As you may know from what we’ve said before regarding concept art, concept art doesn’t necessarily show off upcoming features in absolute terms, but it’s often there for the team to get a feel or mood for what they will be creating. In other words the goal for concept art is often to get creative wheels turning, to help focus the team on the atmosphere they’re trying to create when making content and not necessarily WYSIWYG.

2) There are too many disposable NPCs.
Agreed. This is something that was discussed during development. I know that the personal story team tried to address this during the polish phase leading up to launch. I was in a few meetings where we added additional lines and talked about where the characters should reappear. The iconics got new voiced dialogue, and many of the side characters were reused in different places throughout the game.
I think the main issue is that many characters come and go every 10 levels, so it’s hard for people to really care about them in the long run. That’s something we intend to focus on more in the future.
Thanks for the discussion. Anything is possible in the future, but I would be sure to not hold my breath waiting.
While we can appreciate the desire for information on every aspect of the game, the development team does not have time to come answer all these questions, despite their desire to do so. Rest assured that the forums are read and issues of importance are forwarded for their notice though. As such, this this thread will be closed. Thanks for your understanding!

I logged on yesterday to play and and saw 6 mails 3 black lion keys and 2 dye kits, I did not purchase these items and am now out 900 gems ! I check my security via the account page the only log in that day was me that morning. When I check the mail it said purchased 1 min ago . But from what i’ve read in the forums I am probly out the gems ,so my main purpose of this post is to let you know theres is a problem in the system with the gemstore auto buying things. On a side note i’m glad it was at least items I will use.
Everything I know about the system tells me that the Gem Store cannot auto-buy things as you described. I believe your account has been compromised. Please contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist you.
If this turns out to be a game bug, the CS Agent will file a bug report so that QA and the Dev Team can look into the matter.

There’s two criers that appear in that area for events that happen nearby. I’m not 100% sure that every single heart has a corresponding heart, but the one’s that don’t are few and far between.
We do have some improvements in mind for the elementalist’s main-hand dagger, along with reworking the downed state a bit. Keep in mind that you might not see this for a bit, but it is in the works.

Policy: 3rd-Party Programs; Multi-Boxing; Macros
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Gaile Gray
ArenaNet cannot approve or review or “vet” any third-party programs. Our general policy is that anything that gives advantage is forbidden; anything that imbalances the game in favor of one player over another is strictly disallowed. With that said, we are aware that some utilities help players without impacting others, that is, they do not give anyone an advantage over someone else.
Our development team is not able to review third-party programs to assess their components or give them any sort of approval. We make our policies clear in our User Agreement, Rules of Conduct, and the Conduct Breaches and Outcomes document, which you can find in the Legal Documentation section of our website: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ You should know the following:
- If you chose to use any third-party program, you do so at your own risk.
- We cannot offer support if the third-party program impacts Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 and, for instance, makes the game unplayable.
- If you choose to use what you believe to be a “benign,” or non-advantage-giving program, be sure to get it from a legitimate source to protect yourself from the possible addition of cheats or key-loggers.
The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
- “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
- “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
- “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”
If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.
In the future, we will be working directly with the community to develop app support for Guild Wars 2, so stay tuned for more info!

[BUG] Party members getting sent to wrong faction when sharing their Personal Story
Posted by: Jeffrey Vaughn
The problem is that there is literally no difference between a character who intentionally picked the Vigil and one who got sent there by the bug, so there’s simply no way to automatically fix affected characters. Our CS team does not have the ability to change your current quest or order, either, so it’s not something that we can manually fix on a case by case basis, either.
Now, we are aware that there are a couple of other bugs related to story steps.
- The first involves a split in parties paths upon selection of one’s Order. I’ll update a separate thread about that and you’ll be happy to know that this one has been repro’d and a fix tentatively developed. Upon successful testing, it will be rolled to live.
- The second involves a similar kind of split when the party chooses their greatest fear (at level 70). This fix is under review by QA and the details are not yet fully known. It will be addressed as soon as we are able to replicate and then develop a fix.

Hi, all,
Rest assured, this is one of the many things we’re working on. Please bear with us as we figure this out and get you a permanent fix. Thanks!
Keeping an eye on something means we’re watching it, seeing how it plays out, and making sure we don’t make knee jerk reactions (nerfs or buffs).
Having said that, Dagger/dagger Ele needs help. Some defensive Ele specs are too good. Some of their sustained damage is too low, while some spike builds are pretty rough. Keeping an eye on it means we’re not going to nerf/buff it without thinking very carefully about it – that’s what my first update was about.
We’re also keeping an eye on Thieves, both in regards to damage output and sustained defense through stealth.
We’re also looking at the balance for all the downed skills for all classes. Some are riding the high end of the power curve, while others feel weaker in comparison.
Anddddddddddd we’re also looking at buffs/nerfs to all classes as apropos – I’m just not listing every single one. For many classes this means that we want them to have different builds that are equally viable, and making sure that no single build outshines all others in efficacy. Also, this means that JUST BECAUSE I DIDN’T SPECIFICALLY CALL OUT YOUR CLASS in a post, that DOES NOT MEAN WE’RE NOT LOOKING AT IT.
Communication in-and-of-itself is a complicated thing, and the inherent complication of human communication is further exacerbated when it’s done via a web-based medium. We’re trying to do our best to communicate with you, so please understand that just because I say “keeping an eye on something”, that doesn’t mean we are nerfing X from orbit with a Nerf nuke – as it’s the only way to be sure. It simply means we’re keeping an eye on it.

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if a given character chose their order, or was inadvertently sent to the wrong one, so I don’t anticipate a retroactive fix being made.
