Lol. I also like Scarlet. Her character was annoying in the beginning and she didn’t make much sense to me, but as the story progressed I grew (sorta?) attached to her. I’m excited to see where the story goes tomorrow

This whole thing seems like a disaster. The Living Story and the personal story should NOT be related, aside from bringing in some minor characters to give a bit of nostalgia to those of us that have finished. I wouldn’t mind that. But this whole parallel thing can’t be happening and shouldn’t be happening. It’s limiting what they can do with the Living Story to make it something really great, and the fact that they didn’t hold onto the old instance for the PS bugs me.

Taimi is actually named after one of the devs dead friend, so any other meaning to her name is coincidental.

I saw a bunch of those cards on tumblr! Her line was “I dream of you, Valentine.” The weird thing about it is that Caithe never smiles.

I’m not sure if this has been brought up or not so I apologize in advance for the potential repeat topic, but concerning the two portals in Brisban are we ever going to be going further into the Maguuma area? Clearly there was original intent to go further into that side of the world that was pulled, but is it still possible?

I got bored and decided to do some googling. Because sylvari names are derived mainly from Celtic and Gaelic roots I decided to search Scarlet’s real name. This is what came up.

I’ve got quite a few sylvari (five of them…) and I’d love to see more sylvari styled clothes, even if I need gems to get them. Some of the TA armor is a bit odd IMO and I wouldn’t go through all the trouble to get it, and the cultural is nice but some of the sets I just don’t like- i.e. Tier 1 Light armor

When looking at plant armor for my sylvari (former thief, remade into ranger) I was at first going to go for TA (I liked it best). Then I started looking and went “Actually, you know what? Tier 2 isn’t so bad for female sylvari medium. Ditch the helm and maybe the shoulders and it’s rather decent!”

My female ranger has the Tier 2 actually. It looks great, with my only complaint being the rather busy look of the leggings compared to the chest

I should have clarified… It’s been a part of the Living Story since the Queen’s Jubilee last summer. After Scarlet showed up this is the first place you were sent to investigate. It was a part of the Invasions and it would spit out Clockwork creatures. Were you guys not around during this?

Tegwen was probably the only character death that actually upset me. I didn’t even notice when Sieran died. I cheered when Tybalt died (seriously, people like him?). When Tegwen sacrificed herself I did /y TEGWEN, NOOOOOOO! She was only in the game for a short while, but her relationship (probably not Relationship though) with Carys was really well written, and Carys’ and Ballista Geargrind’s little eulogy to her was beautiful.

I still think of Tegwen whenever I’m wandering around the Grove.

When I was creating my sylvari Tegwen and Carys were with me from level 11 onward. They were those characters that kept coming back and made me smile (mainly because Carys is Carys). But then Tegwen died and it made me so sad that this character I liked just up and sacrificed herself because the game said so

I’ll give an 8/10 for your mesmer. It’s a cool name but a bit trippy on the tongue. 10/10 for the necro name because of the gaelic meaning (I’m biased)

My ranger is Terywen, because it sounded sylvari-ish to me while I was making her. My thief and main character is Crythana. I wanted to do some variation of “Crystal”, but that happened somehow

I believe that the reason you have clothes in you intro is because it’s part of the Dream, and it’s showing you bits of your future. In other words, the clothes you’ll get after you’re born.

I’ve yet to kill the Marionette. I always end up in overflows with hardly anyone in them. There. That’s why people still fail.

Out of all the homosexual relationships listed before, I’m surprised that no one has even bothered to remember Tegwen and Carys. And then to add to the number of characters I liked that Anet has written out, Tegwen was killed off as well.

Not sure if that should be considered a spoiler or not…

Why all the character deaths? I sobbed when Tybalt died and then the deaths kept coming. Is killing any of the LS characters really necessary?

1) Tengu- most likely, seeing as they were planned as a playable race from the beginning
2) Largos- they seem like they’d be pretty customizable, and it would be a perfect excuse to do something about underwater combat
3) … I can’t think of a third

I agreed with you, actually. It’s not that I hate the LS, but I don’t want the dragons and such to get involved in the chaos that currently is the LS

I’m fine with Scarlet. I’ve been reading everything I can bout her and the more I find out the more intrigued I get. Her backstory was interesting and gave her a little background, in that she doesn’t want anyone to tell her who she has to be. And then when you ask the Pale Tree about her she talk about how Scarlet is trying to defy her destiny. This so called “destiny” has piqued my interest and I’d like to know more about what she was like before she truly went mad.

The big problem that people have is that they don’t bother trying to understand her. They don’t go out of their way to read the backstories. This current LS patch is the first real time anything about her past has even been mentioned ingame which, no offense, was a bit of a fail on anet’s part. Had people been able to understand her when she first showed up, then maybe she wouldn’t be quite so hated now.

I would’ve enjoyed playing a charr so much more had I been able to bring my warband along. It’d be a bit clunky in the Order of Whispers, but whatever. Tybalt can be our newest ’band mate

I would love for there to be an LA invasion, though it’s puzzling why DR is the only city she’s bothered. I mean, Gendarren Fields was the first place we had to go to after her first appearance during the Queen’s Jubilee and Lion’s Arch is right there. It wouldn’t have been that hard for her to move a little bit to the south and wreak havoc on the city, so why would she wait half a year to occupy LA?
Oh, I know why. Because “it’s all part of the plan.” -_-

Returning to the original point, I’d love for it to be an instanced invasion with tons of stuff to do to fight her off. And I’d rather it be solo, because Scarlet has been exclusively targeting the PC since she showed up. More than one person would’t feel right.

1) I think all that information is part of the Dream, but because the Pale Tree is the caretaker of the Dream she’s able to access it when necessary. Think back to the first time we meet Caithe, when the Pale Tree allowed her to help kill the tutorial boss. Or the Personal Story chapter where the PC and Trahearne have to enter the Dream and they get a glimpse of their “future”.

2) Yeah, it’s a bit of a known fact that the sylvari’s memories go to the Dream for newly awakened to see. Hm… I wonder if that’s why the other races are a bit put off by the sylvari?

3) I’ve skimmed over this thread and I believe that there is a big fact about Trahearne that everyone is forgetting about: Trahearne is the first of the Firstborn. He was the first to awaken, and it seems to be like the relationship between a parent and his/her first child.

4) Maybe a little bit of both that and his Wyld Hunt. Trahearne was socially awkward before he left for Orr and only ever hung around dead things, the poor guy. On top of that his Hunt is to revive this corrupted land, something that seemed impossible before the events that take place in the Personal Story. The dude’s under quite a bit of pressure, and he needs all the help he can get.

5) Back to Trahearne’s socially awkward-ness, maybe Caithe wasn’t sure how he and the PC would get along?
Or maybe it was the Hunts, and because Caithe and the PC have such similar Hunts she’s being a bit protective of someone that understands her to an extent. She doesn’t want the PC to get involved with his seemingly impossible Hunt, because the PC could start to lose heart in his/her own Hunt.
[/sigh] I have no real clue, honestly. Just throwing out a couple theories. It’s something that’s never really fazed me until now, but now you’ve got me thinking about this.

6) Pft. I didn’t know that before now. I have no clue why the Pale Tree would do that, but at least it gives the Trahearne haters a reason to hate him. Trahearne had some character during the 11-28 sylvari chapters, but after he gets Caladbolg (which is pretty much where everyone that’s never played as a sylvari gets introduced to the guy) he seems to not have as much character. I haven’t played those chapters through in a while, but the way I remember it was he turns into the leader of the Pact and that’s pretty much it. I like Trahearne enough, but let’s be honest: the guy gets to be irking after a certain point.

7) Sylvari names are derived from Celtic roots and can be translated (i.e: Trahearne means “strength of iron”), so pulling names like that seems a bit commonplace to me. I don’t think that it’s meant to have any real-life connection to it. Maybe the devs named the sword Caladbolg as a joke?

True. The Firstborn are held so high up by the other sylvari (excluding the PCs) that a little conflict against that would make them seem less high and mighty, and for better IMO. Character flaws will help make them more realistic.
And I think that one of them is Soundless, actually. In the Q&A a couple devs did with a role-playing site they mentioned that the meditation method the Soundless use was created by a Firstborn, so I’m assuming that it’s one of the missing Firstborn.

Sylvari lovers such as myself are probably miffed about the fact that there are 12 Firstborn sylvari, but three of them seem to have been written out of history. I’ve done so much searching through the wiki trying to find even a tiny hint about these three, but there is nothing. Which leads to my question:
Why?
Why would they (devs) give us the knowledge that there are 12 Firstborn, but only name nine of them? This is driving me crazy, and I’d rather have been told that they died like Riannoc rather than that they don’t exist.

I’m another one of those people that actually likes this (gave me my hint achievement as well, so that was nice). I like that you have to actually focus in on an enemy and finish them off. Only complaint I might have would be when do bosses that spawn tons of adds and finishing them off would become a hassle, but so far it seems to be only this patch and this area. So there shouldn’t be much to complain about right now.

But I think that those two are just really close friends. I act that way towards my friends, so I don’t find it all that weird. People can read into it however they wish.

A NPC ingame explains that the only reason the krait would ever ally themselves with somebody like this is if they get something BIG in return. She also implied the fact that this even alliance exists means that something really bad is coming.

I’m aware that the NPC said this, but what kind of something big can a group of sylvari with parent problems offer the shape shifting serpent people? This massive tower just seems too bizarre for me. Even when going with video game logic, this still seems crazy.

I’m going to assume that Scarlet is behind this new alliance. This would explain what happened in Twilight Assault and the deal that was mentioned between her and the Nightmare Court. Also, just one glance at the hint concept art for the next update automatically tells you that that irritating pigtailed sylvari has something in store for us.

Personally, I like Scarlet. I honestly do. I read her story and with that background, as well as knowing about her from game content, I find her to be an interesting character. The issue I have with her is that she’s able to form alliances between these different races. I mean the Molten Alliance made a little sense to me, but Krait and Courtiers? I don’t get it. Just how…? I don’t know anymore. [/sigh] It may make for cool map changes and the continuation of a story, but these alliances are bothering me.

Wah! I saw this post and checked on my ranger. She has tier 2 medium armor and I liked my color scheme I had. The chest was this lovely leafy shade of green that matched her skin tone in a way that made it look like it was a part of her. Now thanks to this patch, it has been changed to yellow! I liked the gold glow for her hair and the tint it added to her skin, but now I hate it! I’m not paying for a character customization kit just so I can change the glow color (I’ll learn to deal with it) but it is very annoying. I put so much time into the Harathi chain event to sell supply bags a few months back, just so I could get the armor when I hit 60.

I hardly ever use long bow on my ranger (I’ve been using a short bow since before the nerf and got used to it), but if they got some love then I’d probably use it

I love him, just cause he’s got more story behind him. He’d lost use of his right paw in an explosion, yet he found a home in the order. He’s very different from other charr and he’s got such an OOC personality that I found him amusing

(to the original poster): Uh… A personal story is called a “personal story” for a reason. It’s meant to be soloed, and I’ve soloed it three times, save the final dungeon in Arah. Not sure what you’re going off about…

I read this and I laughed. But I do think that we should get that title for completing our personal story. I’d love for my warrior to go around with that title over her head

I don’t recall doing anything with Canach during Southsun. I only wanted the flower back item for my ranger. Didn’t pay much attention to the story sadly enough. What I know of him is that he was a good guy that caught stuck with a bad guy title

Nightmare Courtiers allying with the Dreamers? That’s a very interesting idea, but somewhere along the way I’m pretty sure the Courtiers would turn against the good guys. Not sure how the fight would go, but it sure would be interesting.

Caithe being tempted by the Court makes sense, what with Faolain being alive. Even though Destiny’s Edge has reformed, thing’s are still uneasy among them. Faolain could easily say something that’ll push her over the edge. My sylvari necro has refused to let any harm come to the people she cares about. If I could have, I’d have destroyed Faolain so that the poor little flower could move on with her life. Unfortunately the dungeon wouldn’t let me do that.

This fight was so irritating to do on a thief. Normally I’ll be hopping around like a bunny avoiding attacks while also stacking poison and bleeds. This fight sucks because I couldn’t move without getting stunned, and then he moves to the other side of the area and I couldn’t do anything. Those stun zones need to be made avoidable so that future players don’t get as annoyed.

When I last played this story line Tybalt died immediately when the gates to the fort closed. He was close enough that I rezzed him and he didn’t die after that. But because of the why the story goes somehow he died! I rezzed him! He should still be alive!

I came to this realization when I first started playing sylvari. The reason Trahearne is so useless is all because of Caladbolg. God I hated that sword. I don’t have a heavy armor sylvari either. Ranger, theif, and then necro all used the same stupid sword and died multiple times because those skills are so annoying.

Agreed. It may have seemed like an interesting idea at the time for the devs, and at first it sounded okay. But since then I have found Braham’s existence to be as you said unnecessary. They could’ve made him just another norn NPC, but no. They had to add something weird to get your attention.
