If all you are willing to play is Mesmer, which is a class you clearly are not very good at, you are going to continue the losses. Perhaps it’s time to admit that your nonstandard vanilla class Mesmer build is not going to cut and either re-roll the Mesmer or play a face roll class like DH. It is unranked also, so just deal. My win rate in unranked is over 65% and close to 60% in ranked on my main account and 2 free accounts I have. I am unsure how you can be getting such horrible matches. The one standard in that equation is you.

My PvP feedback as a new player

Ranked had 5 man teams between season 5 and 6. However since season 5, the ranked only let’s you team with one partner during the season. I assume since you have 200 hours in you are at least level 20 in pvp and aren’t confusing ranked and unranked arenas.

It only happened to me in Ranked, I’ve never got matched against a full team in unranked.

It was maybe in one of those seasons I guess, but still about 2 days ago 3 players had the same guild tag and they were on the same team so I still don’t get it.

I’ve never tried to play with a group so I don’t really know the limitations sorry about that, I should have explained that as well haha.

It is possible they were just placed together by chance. Because since season 5 it is IMPOSSIBLE to queue with more than 2 people in your party. Now I would also like to clarify top stats. Top stats literally meaning nothing 90% of the time. A lot of times people can get every top stat and still cause people to lose the game because of horrid rotations and/or strategies. You could have the worst warrior in the history of gw2 and they could easily get top dps, healing, and offense. So you just want to focus on getting down to rotating points, knowing when to enter and leave a fight, and giving effective communication to your team. I know it can be difficult in lower divisions but learning a class like Mesmer or thief can be beneficial because if you are very good at them they are very good at causing a game to snowball in your favor.

This is probably the stupidest question I’ve seen on here in a while. Obviously they don’t make balance off of dueling servers. I’ve personally dueled plenty of devs in dueling arenas and all of them are there to just have a good time. They take into account pvp statistics, raid successes, and other forms of data to make informed decisions on their balance.

TBH cheese is such a subjective thing. You need to first define what is considered “cheese”. My defition is two things: A) you can put it into a completely new players hands and they will do well with it up until say low gold. B) How little counters a build possesses.
That being said it kind of narrows down how many “cheese” builds there are. So making lists like these are kind of pointless without making these distinctions. Just my two cents.

I personally don’t think there is a “single” best but in fact multiple people across multiple classes. But I would agree min is one of the top duelists in the dueling scene. A few others would be caprey, and dicocco. ( sorry if I spelled their name wrong)

My advice would be first get a real build. It seems based off of your screenshot you’re using some sort of d/d condi evade build.

First I would use the meta, because of its effectiveness in being able to carry teams. Then find a friend you can duo with. Or even ask in map chat.

Your win/loss ratio doesn’t really determine your skill rating. It is an important factor but I would surmise (not saying it isn’t true) you’re kind of exaggerating just how often you get top stats. Because if you’re getting 2-3 top stats consecutively with an ok win/loss ratio then you should at least be in silver.

That’s my advice anyway xD not saying it’s the only way, but generally that’s how I’ve seen people go from bronze to gold pretty easily. You can always just run the face roll DH and just throw your keyboard against the wall and win generally.

1) The build I’m using is -very- effective in 1v1s, 2v1s, roaming and team-fights, at a cost of health.

2) The meta is 5% of the player. It’s just ‘the best possible build based on statistics’… but the player is in control of the build. A terrible player with the meta could be worse than a good player with a non-meta build.

3) To my knowledge, Top Stats don’t count towards your Skill Rating, so it’s purely based on wins/losses.

The point is that what you’re doing right now isn’t working. If it’s been 2 months and you can’t even get out of tier 1 it seems your methods and/or opinions do not work. So I’m simply suggesting you switch it up and see if it works.

this is a d/d ele build i’ve been working on for a while, it has been working very well for me, because of the fire blind trait being nerfed its no longer viable, and the extra damage from Puissance is needed. Let me know what you guys think

You can change the stats, whenever you want as long as you are out of combat. Also, when anet ever adds a new stat set to the game, legendaries will always have that stat set readily available for you to be swapped to as well.

Signet traited/skill solo roaming mesmer in HoT is not too bad (it was my first character to complete all the HoT maps). Having that many evades and condi cleanses is pretty handy. Sure you are a weaker DPS’er but I let my phantasms whittle things down (including solo’ing those boss hero points).

What type of build do you use?

From his description it sounds like an invuln signet build that uses inspiration with phantasms that spread regen.

Viability isn’t a crime, despite popular belief XD.

But necessity is, how many pro teams played a chrono? If the answer is a few teams slotted them in as an option you have nothing to worry about.

If the answer is every team had a chronophantasma then you have problems. This goes for all classes, not just mesmer.

There needs to be class and build diversity within the format no? Who wants to watch the same classes with the exact same spec/amulet every match on each side?

You’re right, there does need to be build diversity.
However, wouldn’t it make sense to buff the underperforming classes and builds(cause lets be honest power shatter is meh atm.) and in doing so make the other classes perform on a level playing field rather nerfing everything? Because that’s what happens, when something works just a tad too well Anet nerfs anything and everything related to it regardless of other builds it may affect.
I’ve said it again and I’ll say it now, Anet should work towards having not only seperate balance teams for PvP and PvE but aim to have a minimum of 3 builds that are viable on a tourney level. It’s possible, would be a lot of work and require a test server, but then you could have a power, condi, and support build for each class that suits everyone’s playstyle and depending on the team comp could potentially win or lose the match.

I wholeheartedly agree, but unfortunately anet has decided that their efforts should be better concerned with things such as the next expansion and the next living world season. Rather than fixing the already underlying problems that remain from their previous expansion. The two things that would greatly benefit pvp right now would be a separate balance from pve, and a separate TEAM from the pve balance team. So that the two wouldn’t mix interests.

Power mesmer though is in the works of making a comeback, especially with amulets such as demolisher that allow for “tanky” mesmers to still hit as hard as power shatter with marauder do. I personally found a rather enjoyable mantra mes build that seems to be quite effective. But, condi is still king atm so we can only hope for the best.

Throughout his videos it seemed quite obvious he had a very loose concept on the current meta, and how mesmer is currently balanced. Yes, condi mesmer is strong, but not to the point of it being “completely broken and over powered”. Whenever someone says “over powered” i think about the height of celestial ele’s power. When they had literally almost no counters. Now, compare that to mesmer currently. They’re susceptible to cc’s, and heavy condi pressure.

Granted they have 3 invulns (with signet of illusions and f5), but as for cc’s they only have one stun breaker, which can be broken through easily with warriors or druids. As for heavy condi pressure, any necro with copious amounts of chill will assure you that its very easy to stack conditions on a mesmer if you time your cc’s well enough. Since alacrity was nerfed, chill does horrible things to our rotations considering most mesmer account for the decrease in cooldowns. But, i digress, i’ve completely stopped watching any of his videos that have to do with pvp due to his lack of research while speaking about pvp and the meta in general.

Thank you for the constructive criticisms! I made a few adjustments to better fit your concerns. Such as adding the signet and BD. I agree with these changes, although PU is actually helpful to take pressure off of me, and in not being an open target for SA thieves. But ill have to try this out to see where it takes me! The arcane thievery is what i use 50%of the time, the signet is what i use the other 50% of the time. It changes based upon who im either dueling/playing against.

I use PU on my rabid condi-shatter mesmer, and I really like it. When I’m doing well offensively I find that I miss BD’s ability to secure downs, but if there’s a good shatter mesmer or thief on the other team, I find PU almost indispensable, since those types love to hunt me down enroute to my target.

True, it is almost indispensable on that build. But on mine its….among the already overwhelming amount of defense mechanisms. PU is all defense, so sacrificing some stealth defense, for stab/might constantly (because my shatters are on a reduced cool down) seems logical. Plus it will boost my dps/condi damage. But having a good shatter mesmer, makes things (as you probably already know) very difficult XD

I’ve entered a few guild tourneys, and have dueled quite a few people on this build and have found that it is very powerful due to it’s inherent dps/condi capabilities. Unfortunately, the player base has built an overwhelming amount of entitlement throughout the years. I feel for Anet, and hope they take everything that is being thrown at them in stride. I just hope they know that even though there is a disgusting amount of negativity to some employees work, that has been in the making for 2 years. I hope they know that there are those of us, who know the true value of them, and wish them the best, and they will never lose my business.

Sorry, I know this thread is relatively old, but I would like to know the answer to this as well. I have been skinning exotics with normal skins as a different set to run around in sPvP and WvW in because I’m not sure.

No, an opponent can’t see them when you’re stealthed.

Yeah, I mean in general though, when I’m not stealth, and running around with a legendary, are my tracks visible to opposing servers?

When you are not in stealth, yes your footprints are visible to enemy players. As well as your mini’s. But when you go into stealth your footfalls are hidden, as well as (sometimes) your mini. Alot of times people are able to pinpoint thieves because their mini didnt stealth along with them.

There have also been a number of guilds that have been rising up to try to organize NSP’s WvW. Such as [Raid], and [Os] (of course). But other older guilds have either transferred out, or are no longer active. I know [Tfg] has undergone new management changes a few months ago, which has made them more stable. Overall, though, i’d say NSP is really shaping up to how they were when the game first launched.

Is the first post going to be updated as the discussion goes on, or how will the ‘report’ be amended in light of people’s comments? How will people’s opinions be taken into account if nothing is posted in over a week? just asking…

It will be ‘amended’ by updating features that the general populous have been asking for. Along with new quotes, thread links, and more accurate statistics. At the moment im waiting for Anet to give me a more “structured” form of how they want the reports to look. I have my notes ready to be inputted for the next report.

I linked these threads due to the amount of “constructive criticism” present. Below you will see quotes from different users that I’ve found to be the most enlightening on the subject of balance when matching up servers in WvW.

• Nativity.3057 “….Shift the idea of GW2 endgame from fractals to WvW Let’s be completely honest, GW2 lacks “endgame” unlike other MMOs (cough WoW). The game’s name has “war” in it, why not focus on that aspect? While making WvW endgame might result in server stacking (players wanting endgame equips quicker by joining servers that are winning WvW battles), actions can be taken to prevent this. One would be to prohibit server transfers to same tier servers. Another idea would be to handicap the server that is in first place (and stays in the same tier). If the server stays in first with the handicap (handicaps will increase with each win), the rewards for winning increases as well.”
• Smooth Penguin.5294 “They can’t combine servers, because in the event that there’s a mass influx of new WvW players, the combined servers won’t have space to hold them all. The best option at the moment is to keep the servers as they are, and just try to give more incentive for PvE players to WvW more often.”
• Rimmy.9217 “Dropping map population caps to sixty or even forty would probably nudge that along, even if the map caps were only temporary. If player population is a fluid (which it’s not), then rather than the hydraulic despotism of hoarding it all in one place it should be left to to spread out. A large group of people have more fun in a wide seven-meter deep pool than in a single-lane pool that’s thirty meters deep. And more matchups without population imbalances means more fun for more people – fun in a game, if you can believe it. It will also mean that players new to WvW will find an active scene regardless of which server they’re on. It will also lead to more matchup variability, which is definitely a good thing. And finally, it’ll mean that being in the top three means more than “we out-blobbed the other servers”. There will have to be a hint of skill in there too.”

Based on the communities responses approximately: (posts on subject)
57.73% suggested for better rewards (101)
15.24% suggested server merging (26)
12.08% suggested population reductions (17)
10.32% suggested battle groups (18)
4.63% other (8)

Based on the statistics above, it can be postulated that earning better rewards in WvW seems to be the general consensus for getting new players to join WvW. Having new, and improved rewards will help bring PvE players into WvW to help establish WvW as a form of end-game content. This could eliminate some issues of barren servers, with this influx of new players. Merging servers could be put into place after the revamp of rewards in order to help servers who still need help “refreshing” their WvW populous. Population cap reduction, however, has been vigorously stated by the community as a form of containment for the unbalanced match-ups. An opposing argument has been made, although, stating that creating a lower population cap in the WvW maps could lead to extremely high queue times in higher server tiers. This brings up the point of differentiating map caps, based on that server’s population. I digress, the main points that have been made have been to either “revamp” existing rewards to pull PvE players back into WvW, or to merge servers in order to collect the few players in the barren servers in order to allow for more balanced gameplay in the lower tiers.

Scrolls Of Knowledge??

Haven’t played in a long time and am back now and starting fresh with new characters, so my question as I am a bit vague where I can get some tomes and scrolls of knowledge other then PvP and WvW? Is there a living story I can do and get them or a current event?

I don’t mind grinding some lvls but some scrolls even a few would be nice if there was a way to acquire them other then PvP and WvW(since I dislike that aspect of the game and frankly I suck at it lol).

Currently the only other ways of getting Tomes of Knowledge would be from Dailies, and from your Daily Log-in reward.
Scrolls of knowledge can be obtained from Champion bags. Which are found in PvE, PvP, and WvW.

Hello again, thanks everyone who answered, i’m glad that you guys are responsive to newbies, i wanted to ask 2 more questions that got in mind and that’s all.

1. Should i keep these tomes of knowledge for higher levels or should i use them now as 22 level elementalist. I currently have 3 of tomes.

2. Can i pvp in pve zones or it’s restricted?

1) I would suggest using them, due to this being your first character. Once you hit lvl80 you can start to save them for other characters you may want to level in the future. But at the moment, using them now would be most beneficial to you.

2) Currently, pvp has been limited to Structured PvP and WvW.

Since I am the few that realize that your position is to facilitate communications between us and the devs… is there anything in particular you would like us to do in the forum ourselves to make it easier/clearer for reporting? For example, I am assuming you will be doing highlights of our forum’s concerns with suggestions and accolades we have made regarding those concerns. Is there some sort of format you would like however to make it easier to address things?

But, people do not have to follow this format! Please feel free to speak your opinion in whatever way you wish. I will be going through every thread, and making a report for each major issue that has been presented.

Since I am the few that realize that your position is to facilitate communications between us and the devs… is there anything in particular you would like us to do in the forum ourselves to make it easier/clearer for reporting? For example, I am assuming you will be doing highlights of our forum’s concerns with suggestions and accolades we have made regarding those concerns. Is there some sort of format you would like however to make it easier to address things?

Need a little bit of help

Welcome to Guildwars 2! No question is “stupid”, we love to help :-)

1) Mini’s are a account accessory that are located in your account-wide “Wardrobe”. They do not help in combat, but they do make fun companions if you are ever feeling down!

2) You can simply ask in Map Chat if any guilds are recruiting, and you will most likely receive a response. Make sure to include the server you are currently on, due to some guild’s requiring WvW participation. WvW is server based, so them knowing what server your on is a big factor on choosing a guild.

3) As an ele in its early stages you will be dealing less damage, but later on you can trait to do far more damage than any other class. I’d suggest practicing blast finishers which will help in the future to stack might for dungeons, and gameplay in general.

4) Luck is basically exp for your account-wide magic find. When you use luck, it goes towards your account-wide magic find “exp bar” in the achievement tab. As your magic find goes up, so does the amount of luck you’ll need to get to the next percent. Fear not! Obtaining luck is fairly easy, especially when you salvage often.

5) There are no “Health Potions” but there are certain types of food that will increase your healing effectiveness. Healing can come in different forms in each class. Such as you can trait (with ele’s) to heal when you switch to water. Or to heal while stealth-ed if your a thief. While leveling, though, don’t forget that some weapon skills heal you as well, not just your heal skill. Such as with Ele staff, while attuned to water your #3 and #5 skill heal.

Hello everyone,

I’ve been reading through the thread every since i posted it last night, and wanted to get a few things cleared up before we all continued our relationship further. I understand all of your concerns on whether or not im even qualified to be called a “specialist”. So here are some of my stats that may help with those concerns.
Total hours: 2,500 WvW rank: 300 Total AP: 8,500 Total Kills: 5,700

As for WvW dev’s (instead of me) coming into the forum’s, they are most likely busy with HoT which is why they have enlisted me. I am not a “be all end all” WvW guru, i am here to help bring common concerns directly to Arenanet in order to help communication become smoother and more effective.

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself to this section of the Guildwars 2 Forum! I feel completely honored for Arenanet allowing me to better help my fellow players, by allowing more active feedback based on the communities responses. I, myself, have been WvW’ing for a very long time and was, for quite a while, a commander. I understand everyone has their own concerns they want brought up, and i will do my best to make sure those concerns are heard. Weekly i will be sending a report, concerning issues that have been brought up within common threads.

Everything doesn’t have to be negative though! I will be sending good feedback, and things of that nature. If you have any concerns, questions, or comments please feel free to message me or contact me in-game.

What if Dolyaks could be revived?

Use common sense. One of the only ways for a weaker server to fight a stronger one is to cut their supply lines. This often happens by sniping the dolyak, since the higher population server has (duh…) more people defending the dolyak. Killing the dolyak with even 4 players defending it is quite hard, imagine if the four players could hard ress the dolyak?
Outnumbered fights suck already because of the way hard ressing works. If a group of 5 could survive and defeat people from say a group of 20, 5 of the bigger group will just hard ress the defeated ones even if the small group could stomp them. Naturally applying the hard ress system to dolyaks would hurt smaller servers and make bigger servers stronger.

How does sniping dolyaks when you’re outnumbered help get you points if the numerically superior server is still holding Keeps and Towers? Whether or not they’re tier 3.

I believe what hes trying to say is that, some smaller servers use this tactic to cut off supply to towers to make them easier to cap. So that the larger servers do not have a steady amount of supply to repair, and build siege. This weakens towers and keeps to some degree to allow smaller groups easier capping methods. Just for clarification :p

At the moment, Zerker is still the meta. Usually used for anything pve. The current general meta build (link is above) uses alot of blast finishers, along with frost bow for its #4 burst skill for dungeons. In pvp, although, celestial stats are the meta along with strength runes (even after the might nerf).

In my opinion, its most likely because of them maybe wanting to help people save transmutation charges by making outfits account-wide. If outfits were pieces of a set, people would have to use transmuation charges in order to apply it to their character.

I personally love outfits, they allow me to have two looks on my character.

Have you ever thought of the way that people can remove conditions? A person could use 1 skill, or even just use (such as with ele’s for example) a signet’s passive to remove that bleeding. How can a person remove another persons healing power? This is most likely the reason why they’ve made healing power much less effective than condition damage. If they were to be equal everyone would be immortal, due to no one being able to reduce a persons healing effectiveness. True, you could interrupt someone when they try to heal, but when that person is on a guardian. It would almost seem trivial :p

I used to main a necro about a year ago, but since then ive been maining different classes trying to experience each one. Now that its been so long, i tried making a terrormancer build (using the gear i had) that was a bit tanky, with condi damage as the main focus. Soldier gear is a good alternative if you dont have enough money or zerker, or celestial. When your lvl 80 make sure to get runes of strength so that you have enough power to handle sustain while hitting hard.

I would suggest getting to lvl 80 first before you roam, because most people who roam in wvw are lvl80 with pretty high end gear. But anyway have fun

New Player Crafting

If you ever want to make a legendary weapon, then crafting is required. Also getting the best gear/weapons in the game are needing the highest level of crafting (ascended/crafting level 500). In essence you dont REALLY need them in order to function in the game but once your lvl 80 with all exotic gear, you’ll wish you had started early. The other good thing about crafting now is that your crafting level also levels your actual characters level. Ive gotten two of my 80’s from 1-80 through crafting. Of course, this was earlier in the game where getting a craft from 1-400 got you 10 levels.

If you plan on doing it for levels i use Gw2hub.com. Theyre a bit more expensive than other guides but theyre the most concise from my experience.

-Side note- If you plan on doing any crafting put in buy orders, instead of buying it instantly, it will save you alot of money in the long run. Trust me

WvW Roaming Build for 2-man with Shatterer?

So I’m looking to roam with a friend of mine who runs a shatter Mesmer. Is there any particular build that might synergize well with that? I’m considering S/F for the burst, so that any target of our choosing can be killed instantaneously. Otherwise, D/D? Any input would be appreciated.

If hes running a shatter build some sustain would be useful, because he’ll most likely be using ether feast which is healing every 20 seconds. I would recommend going staff, 0/0/2/6/6 cantrip tank. If you want to be able to burst as well going d/d would also be good. D/f would be better imo for mobility.

I would just do lvl 1 fractal five times, you get some experience doing fractals, plus the pristine that you need. You can only get 1 pristine per day per set. (i.e. 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50).

Will it teleport to a friend even if the friend’s map is full?

It will probably act like if you were to try to join a friends instance while theyre on the same map, by saying “The instance of the map you are trying to join is full” or something along those lines.

EIther it will do that, or it will transport you to their location/map but in a different instance
