Either 2v2 or 3v3. 2v2 is more popular and has a history in Gw2 from many community hosted events. Balance in it isn’t even all that terrible as long as you apply a few rules. Problem with 3v3 is you start to lose creative power.

Plus this game sorely needs a mode you can do with one friend and wreck havoc, and 2v2 has the least amount of crud spam. I can say 2v2 tournies had some of the better diversity, or did at one point. Balance is up in the air as far as HOT goes, but some of us in the community have plans to bring back 2v2 hosted events shortly after HoT.

The reason this game is dying is because people are leaving, not because people don’t buy the game.

It’s actually both. Competitive pvp strives when there is no initial price barrier. A price isn’t just a dollar tag, it’s a hassle barrier as well and there is a huge base of teenagers that are very good at pvp that get gated. The issue is much larger than ever before with the explosion of the F2P era. There are just so many easier options. Why would a teen pay 50 bucks now when LOL is more developed and free?

Free play gets people hooked and gives more people the opportunity to get hooked before asking for money, and it goes a long way. We don’t have that draw, so every person we lose in GW2 is more impactful.

Beyond that, there are issues that the game just isn’t designed for competitive pvp. The systems for pvp are beyond any MMO every created. The hybrid combat/targeting/action style is amazing and works well. But then you get into class balance, trait design, Passives and lack of enjoyable (and enjoyable to watch) game modes and you start losing steam. The game is incredibly not intuitive to watch with stuff just sort of happening all over the place.

And my last point, which sort of ties to my last point, the learning curve is enormous which leads to toxic behaviors. The game takes a long time to warm up to and learn to create builds, where it’s much more simple in other competitive games. The longer that gap takes to fill, the more people are likely to give up, and toxicity only shortens that fuse.

A "Fix" for Mallyx.

Hey all, I wanted to step in here and add an idea to the jar. I feel like there is definitely something to be said about Revenant’s idea of “wanting conditions” that goes beyond solo and pvp play, but also group and organized play.

Currently, Mallyx runs off a system of increased potency depending on amount of conditions currently on themselves, which for the most part, is fine. Except the problem is, team members will be clearing those from you, leading to an odd back-lash of play when in a team.

What I propose is relatively simple. When you have the Mallyx legend equipped (active or not) you gain a buff on your bar called Presence of Mallyx, which could be described on the tooltip of the legend. When you take any condition, you gain one stack of a separate stacking buff that lasts 6-8 seconds and stacks up to 3 times.

Mallyx skills, instead of counting conditions, would be stronger when you have 3 stacks of the buff. This could also give room for some other unique Corruption line traits that work with this mechanic, and doesn’t hurt the Revenant in team play.

Thoughts on this issue/solution?

You might want to try the permaswiftness if you don’t understand how to give Rev mobility. In the time it took you to make this post, you could have learned about the class!

Since when is perma-swiftness a feat of ridiculous mobility?

That said, Shiro has crazy mobility IF there is a target ahead to dash to. Otherwise, yeah, its kind of a silly thing to say.

Hey everyone!

Due to increased life responsibilities mixed with a bit of external curiosity (other games, hobbies and so on), I’m taking an extended break from GW2. This has nothing to do with the state of the game, and isn’t tied to any big rants, so mods, don’t take this as a bad post. My only reason for saying so on the forums, here, is because I wanted to give a farewell to the great Necromancer community I’ve grown to love and let you know I’ll miss all the deep balance and design discussions we had!

In general, I think we, as a community, did pretty great with Reaper in making it a fun addition to the Necromancer (though base Necro still needs some updates, particularly in Shroud), so I’m glad we came out on the other side looking good. I was looking forward to Reaper, and I’m sure I still will whenever (if ever) I come back, so keep up the good fight.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know I’ve enjoyed the company and it’s been fun, but I have other stuff to tackle for a while. Good luck and keep reaping!

Verbal abuse is getting worse and worse

Yeah, much of the scene that is visible is horrible. Some people are down right crude and awful, which I can actually ignore. People who just like to rage I just tend to pitty.

The problem for me now is that EVERYTHING is "cheese". Have a build that works? Cheese. Win a fight? Noob. Lose? L2p lols.

I came back to the game because I missed the community, but anymore it’s hardly worth it. I even joined a guild thinking "cool, decent players with open minds." Nope. They are the same, complain if they lose and call everything cheese or awful and want to tell you what you should play, mean while they allow their close friends to play pistol SA builds and stealth phantasms and so on. (Wvw/duel heavy guild but do some spvp too).

Everyone seems to cater around a few high end players or players they idolize and disrespect everyone else.... Something should change.

I’ve considered making my own guild just so people could have a safe haven from criticism and people to learn with, even though I’m well past that point, I feel it’s something people need. It’s sad when troll guilds have more culture than just about any other pvp guild out there.

The irony people gloss over is that standard reaper builds barely changed or got anything this patch. Only addition was the scepter corrupt (for standard builds).

People typically run Scepter/Warhorn+ Staff. Spite/SR/Reaper, none of that changed except the scepter corrupt… That’s it… What happened is they gave a little more reason to finally drop Spite (which still hasn’t happened much) and gave some more class flavor (boon corruption) to daggers, which are still not being used much and are underutilized.

So basically “nothing changed” and Reapers are god mode.

The biggest changes that happened is that Ele no longer hard counters them entirely, but Thieves do a pretty good job at keeping them at bay now instead.

Yeah, spite could use a minor tone down, and sure, Chill could use a SMALL damage reduction (or base increase and lower scaling which would nerf it for might stackers), but yeah, if you break it down, the meta changed, not Necromancers. So they weren’t “over buffed”.

“The Balance Team” should balance for PvP first and foremost and then balance for PvE based on sPvP as a base. Then let WvW run wild because it was never supposed to be balanced and be a server based logistics game.

Some of these skills were thought out, Defiant stance and the Engie one I like. High risk and high reward for playing them right.

But then we get the Mesmer one… Yeah ok it’s balanced on Shatter builds… But you just pointlessly buffed two already really really strong specs? Why? Cuz they needed to be viable in WvW??? I don’t get it. -_-

The silly thing is, it buffs Phant and PU mesmers a ton for spvp, which they did NOT need, and doesn’t even really buff them much in WvW because clones never live in WvW due to aoe, they’re better off with Fest or Mirror x.X

I just don’t like the name because it’s corny, like being named XxLegolasxX. Gives me the unimaginative cringe. (so does warrior but at least that’s a standard and basic name. This just seems forced on top of cliche)

Beyond that, though, I think it’s great. Guardians needed range, LB makes the most sense, and even the new virtues could prove beneficial for melee guardians with the added mobility, and the team support blocks are top notch too.

Necro got such an insanely massive buff this patch, I’m just waiting for it to get nerfed into the ground lol…

As for the original purpose of this thread, I agree completely. It would be nice to see our cooldowns when we enter shroud. I time it pretty well in my head but it is nice to see those cooldowns.

I wouldn’t go THAT far lol… Some transfers and boon ripping might get toned down, but I wouldn’t say we’re OP atm rofl. We’re still struggling to find a solid spot in a team.

However, at least our traits make better sense (in most cases, at least). We’re making progress and a snails rate.

And no, the point is, bunker builds need to not be able to last forever, in a game with conquest as the main objective, standing on a node to win, this easy of a win is not okay… And for the record, prior to this fight I actually BEAT (in about 5 minutes lol) a Power necro. While there wasn’t much they could do about me staying alive.

As we know, rangers and necromancers are getting staves and greatswords respectively. This gives them both 5 new weapon skills. meanwhile, mesmers are getting a shield in their off hand, this gives them 2 new skills, and the recently datamined ele sword skills only showed main hand sword, which leaves 3 skills. This hardly seems fair for classes that are getting single handed weapons tbh.

You attack the necro>your feared., chilled and bleeding…

You can use up a cleanse and hope the bleeding gets removed
Or
use up your stun breaker to get control back. But still bleeding.
Or
Don’t waste a cool down. Eat the bleeding and lose a couple k of health., and have no control of your character.

And the necro did NOTHING.

Lol you’re trying to cleanse a 1 sec fear or a single stack of bleed? This is exactly why people lose in this “condi meta”. People freak out at the littlest of conditions on heir bar and waste everything they have.

First off, Deathly Chill’s damage is horrible right now. A single bleed is not killing you, nor is that 1 second of fear that might let them get off one mark in that time.

This is the goofiest hyperbolic complaint I’ve ever seen…. “I hit a necro and basically blew up! I had to chose with my single condi removal to either die to eternal bleeding or be Stun locked until I uninstalled the game!”

I used to think this was a problem. Stronghold sort of proved otherwise. The issue isn’t the aoe at all, in some cases it’s very necessary for AOEs to be big to get any real use in open combat. The bigger issue is the way conquest is designed, it favors aoe and cleave because it tends to force people to a point. It’s the same way knockbacks and stability are overvalued. A single game mode has created misleading ideals.

Because it would be completely unfair to the rest of the playerbase to create a super exclusive skin for those who managed to nab it before they pulled it.

I don’t agree with its removal but this solution would just result in another kittenstorm.

Not really, stuff like this happens all the time. (Like the guy in WoW who kept the Legendary necklace that was mistakenly obtained). Ruining people’s fun over other peoples’ tantrums is bad. We PAID for it, the people against it aren’t PAYING them to change it. ANet messed up and people who paid for it shouldn’t suffer, and the T3 owners can suck it up and deal with just a few hundred people who had time to buy it, but since they bought it they should get to keep it, BUT prevent more buying of it because of the heat. That IS the most fair, and I’m sorry some people didn’t get to get it in time, but really there was nothing wrong with it in the first place. (I play human.)

You guys are being very close minded here, and aren’t seeing a bigger picture. Base healing would go down, durations would go down, stacks and application would be adjusted accordingly. So where all regeneration is now essentially permanent on most builds that run it, it would be usable in a more bursty way but not as constant (durations would no longer stack, so it would fall off more often. This means there is more flexibility to how the boon is used both by players and by developers for skill creation. There is more play with the boon both against it (ripping it and bursting around their revenant bursts) and more play to using it, rather than a streamlined 200-240 hps, you plan times to stack a few for a stronger but shorter healing over time session.

I get that change is scary, but the current design has essentially no real play to it at all. Some people have a lot of it, others don’t but it’s generic and just a passive steady health regeneration for those who do, aka, boring and adds little to combat.

You can make fun of this kittening thread all you want. But if you honestly think facing a full team of 2 or more turret engis with other stupid specs like cele ele etc and you are in a pug. Then you are the most masochist mofo I have ever met. It’s not fun, and you know it.

Not sure how you’d know if they were strong or not. All you do is kitten in chat all match, and spend the rest of the time in downed state. I’m sure anything seems OP to you. >_>

Erm, not sure what you mean since MM is honestly one of the LEAST popular necro builds and not all that affective, so I guess the answer would be yes. DS power builds and Condition builds are rather viable.

@ Ronpierce — Very logical post in my opinion.

Is balancing 1v1? I say yes, but only if you support 1v1 in the game. If there is no 1v1 in a game, why bother? Just make sure every class has roughly equal opportunity it excel in several fields, then you’ll have a good game.

Do you consider 1v1 a component of GW2 SPvP for example? — Where in matches such encounters are likely to happen, and if so, do you think balanced 1v1 would benefit this game type over strictly balanced 5v5?

p.s. You’ve got me interested in that game!

To answer your question, as I did the poll, yep. I totally feel like GW2 SHOULD have been balanced for 1v1. Balancing for 1v1 makes it easier to balance things like 2v2 and so forth because after you balance 1v1 you only have to gauge a few things:
- how much do classes support one another. This needs to balance out.
- how much a class can deal splash damage. If damage is balanced 1v1 one class can’t do the same damage AoE and the other only single targeted.
- how well each class can survive in a cluster.

I don’t mean to make it sound so easy, but it’s easier than trying to just balance a cluster of diversity that isn’t balanced at its core. Plus 1v1 skirmishes are often the most fun in a game, for me, because they have a true sense of skill involved to win. But when 1v1 isn’t balanced and one build totally wrecks another that sense of battle enjoyment diminishes for both players. Of course this is all my opinion.

Again, play MM in top 10 TEAM pvp, its not OP. It’s a noob destroyer build, but to play effectively in highend takes a lot of skill and watching (you actually have to watch your minion’s HP, and mms aren’t immune to clutter, you know. They see them too…) then they have less mobility/defensive tools and CC breaks to have to deal with. Try that out against top end PvPers. Watch your pets get aoebombed and cced while you get rushed to the ground because your a necromancer, non-the-less one with no CC breaks unless you have the precasted Fleshwurm, and even then, you’re still getting trained, now with 1 less pet. See how grossly OP and roflfaceroll it is. >_>

Get better and try to learn before asking to nerf anything that kills you.

People who are 80 still have alts, thats the beauty of Account bound items, and it would be strange to reward off-items for people checking a check-box to opt out. A reward track is standardized and there’s nothing wrong with that.

However, sure, if they wanted to add a “Leveling up” track or allowed them to be sold for 10s, I’d be fine with that. But there’s issues with removing them all together, especially just because you’re on a level 80 character, there’s simply no need for that.

The poor manners of Nacrocancers are earned. And funnily enough, as a community, we get along well maybe even as a result of our poor state. Other classes are much much worse. I feel Engineer has the most rude and snide people of just about any class. Them or thieves, not sure which.

Necromancer frustrations and rudeness is warrented in that at this point it’s basically just customer complaints and frustrations. People think of MMOs as a community, but it’s a product too. Necromancers are poorly designed and very frequently overlooked because they aren’t a highly popular class. Literally we see game breaking bugs (Like Flesh if the Master bug or AI that does absolutely nothing) and it is t handled for months to YEARS. Other classes have less shattering bugs and they even get Hotfix bugs. The only time they have ever made quick Hotfix action for necromancer was to nerf Dhuumfire.

Get burned enough times, you start to become bitter… And at the very least, it fits the Necromancer style…

Simple truth is, it doesn’t matter if you hate arenas or not. The only reason to hate them (as long as it’s not forced on you) is fear that it will be too popular and invalidate conquest entirely and make matches take too long to start up. But here’s my view, not having them is a research and development bomb on heir part. Let me explain why.

- The market and player preferences are gravitating toward smaller scale and faster gameplay. Arenas provide a quick play style that can be fun and effective for a person and their friend (or two), which is very commonly a “natural” group of primary friends in MMOs. Beyond that you tend to recruit or have secondary friends to fill a specific comp, but generally speaking about 2-3 main friends are playing together at a given time. Simply because that’s an easier relationship to uphold, people are used to doing things in pairs. That, and it’s quicker than working around 5 people or more.

- While it may temporarily remove some of the queue pool for conquest, it has a good chance to bring in more players from pve and other games. Thus, it would expand the pvp crowd in gw2. The drawn players and many arena lovers will still likely do Conquest modes at times, they’re not mutually exclusive. In net, it could broaden the pvp base and may even allow for more focus of resources INTO pvp in general, which in sure no one could argue with here, it would be great.

- 2v2s dont need much help. We’ve had 2v2 tournies for a long time. It just needs support so it’s more organized to play outside of tournies and rewarding for those who prefer that play style (Ie silver/gold and reward tracks). Dueling and 2v2 currently both suffer greatly from unorganized rooms, griefers and no reward/incentive outside of fun. And it STILL can max out multiple customs rooms based purely on the draw of “fun”. That says a lot.

- Guild Wars 2 is losing so much by not taking advantage of this because they have the perfect set up for it. It doesn’t have healers and a unique means of self sustain and revival. It doesn’t require any pve or leveling up to be competitive and takes no time (essentially) to theory craft and create new builds and compositions. No other MMO in the world can claim the same freedom and accessibility as GW2 could. To ignore that is foolish, unbelievably so.

- Arena is more interesting to watch. Frankly, seeing a guy roll around on a point to survive and rarely fight to kill is a terrible objective for esports. People want bloodshed. Smaller arena fights allow for easy viewing and are much easier to explain the processes involved. And saw what you will about team size, but more doesnt always mean harder. The larger groups get, the more a bad player can be carried. Especially in 2v2s if both players aren’t on their toes, it will often end up bad for that team.

So those are just some considerations. I hope ANet swallows their pride and puts some real thought into this, because it kills me to see this amount of sheer wasted potential.

Looked pretty bad to me, some of really powerful skills obviously aren’t going to make it to launch as they are. As it stands many of these skills (both burst and rage) seem worse than what we have access too already and I’m not in love with the Berserk mechanic, it’s basically “hit this and faceroll everything!” That’s not exactly new or interesting gameplay, it’s a whole elite spec about thinking less and button mashing more.

Glad I didn’t preorder HoT like I was tempted too.

You’re trying so hard to hate it. Just don’t play the game anymore, sheesh. Hate it before you see it. See it’s amazing and hate it because it won’t make it to live. Hate that it’s a reckless with a name like “Berserker”… Okay, we get it, you’re just not having a great time anymore. No one is forcing you to play it. O.o

There’s not much grind compared to other games, that’s what they meant.

I’d say actually the grinds are longer here, there are just fewer of them. Wow for example, every 2-3 months you grind a new set of armor but it doesn’t take long. Here it takes a long time to get a legendary or full ascended armor set, but once you do, you’re pretty much done. There are no real winners because in WoW grind you can usually get caught up to speed but nearing the end of expansions it isn’t as easy to get into the flow of content and you miss a lot of outdated stuff. In. GW2 grind, any progress you make lasts but it takes a long time, gets boring and in the end doesn’t amount to much and you end up in an mmo with no goals. I have no real preference but I do miss seeing group roll loot drop from hard instanced bosses. Everything being based on collecting good to buy 250 of various mats is quite honestly a bad design. Its so dull. If you could realistically grind the 250’of each material it would be better than now. Its gold grinding for mats and a prerequisite weapon and farming non-tradable items. There’s no epic feeling to that. It’s essentially all numbers. That’s the part that makes the current implication of armor-grabbing boring. Even full exotics don’t drop from the dungeons you run! You farm gold and buy some exotic berserker gear… Where is the fun in that?

I’m a new pvper, and really terrible. I lose all the time, and I haven’t a clue why I’m losing.

First of all, it isn’t matchmaking it’s you. You can’t expect Anet to pick the worse players in the game to make your pvp experience better. In my experience, it has actually improved in the last 2 months.

Secondly, they’ve never said their goal was to be esports on a competitive level. They already stated what they’ve wanted for the game from day 1. It definitely wasn’t esports. In fact, pvp wasn’t mentioned at all.

There’s a million revisions they could do to improve the pvp experience and little has to do with classes or matchmaking. I could go into detail but that’ll be tl;dr.

Chronomancer’s actually in a good spot at the moment. It’s fairly balanced compared to other Mesmer specs, but it does have more room for skilled play with well timed Continuum Splits.

Chronomancer is not okay rofl… Even every Chronomancer I’ve met will agree… Even on their own forums they agree.

Their traps are not launched like Rangers, so less aggressive and more preemptive and “defensive” in nature. Sentinel also lends well to being a Guardian while also lending to range fighting. It has a perfect fit in just about every way, and while it isn’t as fancy as chronomancer, I feel it is in general more appealing than Dragon Hunter.

Nerf: PvP Forums

Goal: Prevent under-educated forum goers from calling nerfs they don’t fully understand and overheard when listening to higher tier players, or are asking to nerf low-tier-only monsters.

Risk: Balance changes might make sense instead of destroying everything because people make snap decisions on things they hate and refuse to learn and/or work around them.

I’ve asked if its a bug (no answer yet) but if not, I have to say Moa should by and large definitely NOT straight up kill all Necromancer pets. It goes from hardcounter to cement wall with a gun to your face. I could understand it disabling the minion command abilities, but killing them is a bit much, as it completely screws the entire build for 24+ seconds.

It came out as an ascended weapon with the other elite specialization weapons. Normal skins are datamined as skins or white items. It’s the same way we knew about Warhorn Ele. Plugging your ears and going lalala doesn’t really change what they added to the games files… :/

Question: Did the datamined files also include a staff for the Druid? We know they’re getting staff as their weapon, so it makes sense that it would be included. No need to hide it, right? Or was there only one staff, the one assumed to be for the Thief Elite?

They haven’t added all of the files yet, likely meaning it’s just being worked on. They didn’t have the Reaper hood while they did have the Weapon. Or they just don’t have chat links yet.

I’m willing to get the Druid staff isn’t the one specifically featured in the thief elite specialization backdrop. Is logic really that hard? This isn’t deep detective work. This is going to be just like the Warhorn situation all over again, people refusing to believe it’s true because they don’t want it, and sure enough…

Anet already stated there will be no instant cast healing skills in this game, which is why they are reducing it to 3/4 next patch, maybe lower.

However I do have an idea for it that would help a lot in my opinion. Let it also add three seconds of AoE chill or cripple.

Withdrawal is instant… And on a 15 sec cd and breaks immob lol. Talk about that counter play. /end sarcasm

Mantra heal, too. Once readied its like a 10’second cooldown with instant trigger after readied. I mean, sure, the readying can be lengthy but that’s what decoy and other stealths are for, lol. Point is, this heal has too much counter play already making it instant wouldn’t risk making meditation guardians god modes, they just might actually use their heal now…
