Bought custom arenas may be an exception to the rule.
They’ll likely release the ones that share the same weapon types as Moot, Quip, and such. You know, the ones that tend to be more “for fun” than say Twilight, Bifrost, and such. The next batch after that would likely be the “for fun” versions of greatsword, staff, etc.
I was told in a dungeon that the Ranger prof isn’t “meant for dungeons.”.
I am also not allowed, by most players, to play anything other than melee on it in dungeons.
In addition to this, anything other than tanking pets all seem to die within about 2 secs, but if you try to use a tanking pet you get criticism for that, as well.
Plus, only about two builds are considered viable.
Perhaps that will help you with your decision?
It should NOT be this way and ANet seriously need to wake up and change some things, but if you are not married to the idea of being a Ranger (as I, sadly, am), I would just avoid it for your own peace of mind, if I were you.
It’s players setting the standards of what they prefer as being optimal. Any build for ranger is viable in this game. If you’re having issues finding groups then I suggest that you create your own and be specific about what you’re looking for. The group may fill up slower but there are many other players with the same mindset as you that want to play the way that they want and not what is deemed optimal or the meta.
As I said in my last post, on another thread, I am aware that I could make my own groups, but I should not have to do that all the time just to be able to play with a ranged weapon on a ranged class called “Ranger”.
Many people, for whatever reason (or reasons), do not value rangers in group play, that is the point here.
People may try to claim that it is just prejudice, but I tend to think there is no smoke without fire.
Rangers provide very little support aside from two or so buffs. If they go ranged, it’s difficult for the other members to benefit from these buffs. You also no not benefit from the buffs that the other members provide and you well likely not be revived mid-fight when downed if you’re using ranged attacks while everyone else is melee.
Yes, I know and I question this fundamental design.
Not only is it highly restrictive, but it is also very boring, IMO.
This is, essentially, what I am saying.
Players may make even more restrictive rules than are strictly necessary, but it is the fundamental design of the game which is flawed, in that it allows/encourages them to be able to do that.
So meleeing the boss while utilizing active defenses and group synergy is boring compared to auto attacking at max range while everyone else deals with the brunt of the enemy’s attacks?
It’s a restriction set by players on how they want to play in their groups. It’s no different than you saying people should be able to use ranged attacks in your groups.

Just as you won’t have access to any of the other new skins/maps/skills, etc introduced in the expansion. Why do people keep thinking they should be given expansion content for not buying the expansion?
“Expansion content” that was originally dangled in front of the player base back in 2013 as a QoL update that was put on hold and is now being packaged with the xpac. Sorry, but this was a feature that Anet shopped to people a while back as a free update to the game and now people will need to pay to get it.
Excuse me if i think that is just a touch on the greedy, disingenuous side of things. It would have been fine if they stated back then that they were shelving it and that it might only be available with an xpac. Instead they strung people along every time it was brought up in the forums.
Isn’t it greedy on the players side to assume that everything outside what was originally included on the game CD has to be free?
Did you miss the part about how Anet first talked about the feature as a free QoL feature to the game back in 2013? Did you miss the part about them stringing along the player base before just going silent about it? Or how it would have been fine if they just admitted back then that they were not going to offer it as a QoL update anymore?
They were actually implying this before release, it not directly mentioning it. I know there was also specific mention of finding hints or clues in the world about what is required to make a legendary…and here we are 2.5 years later, and I’m fairly sure no one has found anything like that.
The idea was certainly sold to players as a QoL feature to be added later, not as part of a paid expansion. I’m glad we’re getting it now, and while it is disappointing to see it not as a free feature update, I’m not too bothered by it.
Unless they specifically stated that it would be free then you cannot say that they lied or purposely held this off for the sole purpose of making money. “Implying” is not evidence as people can see only what they want to see and the create their own connection to justify it. Why not complain that the new maps will be locked behind the paid expansion when previous updates have provided them for free?
Anyway, this topic is outside the scope of the OP’s post. If you’d like to discuss this further please create a new thread.

Did they specifically state free back then? You’re making the assumption that anything outside of the game CD that you bought must be free. The precursor scavenger hunt was postponed because of the wardrobe and collections.

Oh, there is one thing that truly bothers me. According to my understanding, there will be no more new content for people who don’t buy the expansion. Although what I really hope is that they meant no more living story. Either way I think it’s wrong. There should be living story for people who didn’t buy the expansion.
Sure, you can say that they can just shovel the money for it but, for some people I know 50 euro is a LOT of money. As in “I’m going to have to find cheaper food” kinda money.
People who buy the game should get the game as advertised. And it was advertised as having a living story. Not “Living story until we put out an expansion”.
Living story or living world? I don’t remember seeing any advertising done directly by Anet in regards to the living story to non-players.
I hope crafting the precursors are a grind and not something that can be completed in a matter of hours.
- Only one crafting per account and precursors. (Translation was confusing on this)
- All new Legendaries and their precursors are not tradeable!
These two things are quite interesting. I’m a bit concerned by the “only one per account” bit here. Only having access to one legendary to craft…ever? That seems like a pretty raw deal. Many weapons can’t be used for multiple professions, so I don’t really know why they would limit this…unless they really mean one precursor per account? That would make more sense, honestly.
Non tradeable is completely awesome though. Let the legendaries be legendary; no credit card heroes, thank you!
Read the article and not the bullet points. It’s per weapon type. Only the new legendaries, the ones that currently are not available, will not be sellable.
My guess is they will do a completely different approach than the existing legendaries. Think about similar to the new collections we have – let’s take Luminescense Armor or Mawdray II. It won’t be possible to sell the precursor, everything is account bound. I think the community wants legendaries you know someone worked on it and completed certain (hard) tasks instead of just buying it or its materials. That was just lame and it seems – like many other things – poorly implemented in order to finally release the game back in 2012.
New precursors will be obtainable from the same methods as they are currently in addition to the collections. Those obtained outside of collections can be sold.
Just mentioning this as I got the impression from your post that you were saying collections would be the only source.
Dungeons are group content while jumping puzzles are not.

The precursor crash is dependent on what is required to complete the collection.
Cannot believe how many people underestimate this. The collection will likely require a decent time/gold commitment. Never mind the fact you will have to give up account progression in other Masteries by spending Mastery points. Though don’t know how available points will be to know how big a trade off that is yet.
Edit: Also knowing what the new Legendary weapons will look like can have an impact on current market. One of the main reason been going back on forth on if want to buy a one of the current precursors while they have gone down is wondering if the new ones will be a lot better and would rather spend there. Might not be able to cash out if new one in the class is a lot cooler.
Or how many people overestimate the impact that precursor collections could have on existing precursor prices. Nobody knows what the collections will entail so there’s really no reason to state one way or another how the prices will go, in regards to precursors, until they’re available. This was the point of my statement in the previous post.
How the new legendary weapons look will have an impact but I highly doubt it would equate to a crash. You may see something close for precursors to legendaries such as moot and quip but I doubt you’d see anything close for those used to make bifrost, twilight, or any of the other popular legendary weapons. Players have different preferences and there’s nothing to say that some players will not want both either.
The only certainty is that T6 will rise (temporarily) but by how much and for how long is up in the air. It’s a lot easier to get them now than in the past and certainly many players are hoarding them. It also could not take much for some players to consistently undercut each other by large amounts to the point that it creates a downward spiral in price as everyone tries to cash out in fear of prices plummeting further. It’s happened before.

Any info on what the legendaries may potentially look like will impact the TP which is why we will likely not find out until the expansion has already been released.
The price of precursors will crash regardless when we get more infos on the scavenger hunt and one thing that we can be sure is the upcoming price rise of T6 mats
The precursor crash is dependent on what is required to complete the collection. If it’s easier to farm the gold then you can expect precursor prices to not crash. The T6 is inevitable as prices will rise but for how much and for how long is anyone’s guess.
My post was based off a post from someone at Anet who did not want market impacting announcements made early.
AFAIK they work in instances.. its just won’t drop ToT bags. Also the ambient creature should not be part of the quest/hearts related.
Yeah. That’s why I said it doesn’t work as they won’t drop loot. I wasted a couple of the consumables until I figured that out. It would have been perfect though as you have your own personal instance and won’t disrupt players doing the hearts.
Farming is pretty much disabled in instances completely.
Yeah, with the one exception being the one during Halloween.

Light = 437G
Medium = 339G
Heavy = 366G
So I made the Eternity, love this weapon skin and it’s improved particle effects over Sunrise. The day time skin matches my character very well, but because the game mostly takes place at night (in most dungeons, heart of the mists, etc.) I’m almost always stuck with the night skin.
I like the idea of the day/night cycle, but it would be cool if we could toggle that on/off so we could keep the day skin on a weapon if we really like it better.
Don’t you have both Twilight and Sunrise skins as well? Just toggle the skins through the wardrobe system.
If any name is even slightly or indirectly offensive all someone has to do is report you and you’ll get banned had a character for 2 years and recently got issued a name change
Banned and a forced name change are not the same thing.
I really hope those people in this thread who believe that some cities are actually countries are joking.
wow, sometimes I still feel beeing the center of the world as EU player (or NA). Can’t imagine how on earth big brands such as GW2 can’t propperly distribute their server locations better around the globe. A server in Australia would not only help oceanic players, but also the huge population in south east asia. (I know China has it’s own servers…but China is…just China).
Glad to have my constant <50 ms ping at > 50 FPS though.
Cost is likely a large factor.
You’re also forgetting something else. Notice how NA server-based and EU server-based players cannot play together? It’ll be the same for players on that side of the world if they were to get their own server(s). How many people do you think would actually be on those servers? Not to mention how many of those players who would opt to do what they’re currently doing and still play on NA or EU servers.
And I was F5-ing like crazy to see what is the new bug fix today…
Or what they added for HoT.
I remember when they did this to someone on the forum a while back by changing their name to Crimson Squirrel or something like tha since the player had an offensive account name.
Frostgorge still only has TWO ori and TWO ancient nodes; the Orr zones have more.
Now that you mention it, this is correct. Forstgorge has always only had 2 of each. Orr zones have more (but I’m not sure of the number but 5 sounds too high). I have not done repetitive character type farming since Megaserver came out. I usually do full runs thru all Orr zones with one or 2 characters a week and this allows me to promote T5 fairly when I need T6 (or I just buy ingots / planks).
Orr maps have 5 ori ore and 4 ancient log nodes. SSC and FGS both have two of each which SSC does have that rich one by the champ.
Gold spammers have settled down, so I’m guessing no…
Aye now you mention it, it does seem to have dropped off a bit
Though strangely enough today I had my first spoof mail in game saying the usual account is going to be banned in 24 hours, click link blah blah blah…Honestly no joke, it’s the best way to find out if the games at an extremely low price.
Or they recently stole a bunch of accounts from people gullible enough to buy gold from them.
Doubtful as it was only for the weekend during both PAX events.
I noticed three things here. First is 50 heavy bags is kinda low for 5-8 hours of WvW play, maybe reroll Guardian or Necro. Second, don’t spend if you want to save. Third, 5-8 hours per day is a lot of time spent in game.
I would only really worry about that last thing.
Shouldn’t have to reroll to play a game effectively.
All profs should be equally viable.
all profs are viable, just at other things. If they were all exactly equal, they wouldn’t be 8, but rather 1 profession ;P
Simply not true.
Other games manage to make all classes/profs viable in every type of play.
No, you will never have complete equality, where you have differences, but the inequality in this game is bad, comparatively speaking.
For example, I was never, ever told that hunters “aren’t for dungeons” in WoW; whereas, I have been told exactly that, re. rangers, in GW2.
….and then, I do WvW and hear that rangers are bad for that, too, most of the time (from a reasonable-sounding guy).
It’s shoddy design and that is not good enough.
Viable != Optimal
Has there been any word about fixes in hot that would make condition damage in pve a viable option for group content in dungeons and fractals? my engi would very much like that
Conditions are viable and have been since launch. Whether they are optimal is another story.
Not viable compared to stat like healing power, toughness etc, they are blocked and are limited. Someone can give/create as much as healing as they can and not be blocked in the process that’s viable and not optimal, conditions are not even close to that.
And the thread of course got moved to a less relevant part of the forum.
This was a question about condition damage changes in heart of thornes, what is your incentive to move this to the regular forum… great work again with the surpression of questions and opinions modi’m surprised it’s not closed because imagine people talking about this.. might cause a riot
This so much, old content is at a lesser priority, this thread should have remained in HoT section.
Variable means it’s capable of working or feasible. You can complete all content using condition builds as I have when I played my necro and many others still do. Optimal is where you compare one thing to one or more other things and go with the best.
EDIT: I’m making the correction because they’re two entirely different things and I don’t want people to be given the idea that they cannot use conditions and are thus limited.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
If you go to Lion’s Arch, you can take the portals to WvW and Heart of the Mists(PvP). once you do this, it unlocks for you in the UI.
You can do WvW at any level but you will not be very effective until you get closer to level 80.

Nope. It’ll be forever changed as part of their living world.
Kessex Hills might wind up different from what it used to look like, but that doesn’t mean it has to remain trashed. A living world does not have to be forever changed… it has to be forever changing. There’s no reason they can’t sweep the rubble aside in Kessex Hills, Lion’s Arch, and wherever Scarlet’s Probes were left lying around.
“Living” not only refers to change, but also to life. The world isn’t as “alive” if all that’s left is dead remains. I am all for sprucing up the place. I tend to avoid the ugly areas just because they’re, well… ugly. Especially if they were once dear to me. I don’t like seeing my favorite places lying in rubble. So the more they tear things up and not repair them, the smaller my world becomes.
Oop! Ack! Thpppt!!
They were referring to normal which means back to how it was before Scarlet. It won’t change back to this which was what I was referring to.
There are the older videos that show how it looked.

Hey all, been reading your feedback. I’m sad to hear that the camera changes are causing you some ‘queasiness’. While the default fov has not changed we have been receiving a few reports on some fps loss as well as an increase in camera shake. This may be a potential cause of said ‘queasiness’.
Disabling camera shake may help.
So is the default option for the camera in this patch literally the exact same as the default camera pre-patch? I just want to know.
Also, can the team look into separate options for camera shake on skills and in the environment? Pre-patch there was environment shake from things like falling rocks, which was fine. Post-patch added the shake on attacks which is nauseating. The problem is the camera shake option disables everything, even the environment shake that was fine.
Attacks shook the camera before the patch. I remember mace #2 on guardian shook the camera. I vaguely remember someone saying that every attack shakes the camera now but I haven’t verified it myself as I wasn’t able to find where to toggle it since the update.
I still don’t see how people spent 3+ hours on a map in World 2 unless they were doing the achievements.
I’m not sure how anyone, no matter how exceptionally good they may have been, or claim to be, can NOT see how that is possible for a lot of other players. Players have been known to take longer on their first run of AC or fractals for not knowing the mechanics of the dungeons. But there were plenty of things to extend gameplay sessions for the average player.
1: The bugs. People with poor latency had major issues with a lot of the content. It just wasn’t forgiving even the slightest discrepancies between the client and server. It definately caused issues for me personally, and contributed to a lot of fails in specific locations. I could not even get past the rapids until the first patch removed that mechanic. There are videos of people trying to get past them with random knockbacks because of the latency issues.
2: It was actually difficult. Not everyone who plays video games is naturally good at them. Especially in this game, which is heavily marketed to a more casual crowd. Even more so in the mmo market as a whole, where platforming skills are not usually required.
3: It was long. No one can (or at least should) be arguing against the fact that the levels were incredibly long compared to any other instanced content in the game. There isn’t a single dungeon path as long as the second or third levels of w2. And when every ten feet there is another platforming challenge or tricky enemy to get past, it gets longer.
4: Death had consequences. A single failure was quite the setback, for any average skilled player (not the people who always say thigs like “I can’t believe it would take anyone that long”) death happened frequently, set you back several dozen platforming challenges that had to be renegotiated, and an ever increasing potential of running out of continue coins and having to abandon the level completely.
5: Running out of time. even a single hour of dedicated instance time runs the risk of having real life interupt and prevent you from completing it.
6: Disconnects. Both as a result of people connections, certain bugs in the content, and a client that was not completely stable at the time, were common.
1) You can’t rate content based on people with poor internet connections or slow computers. The one issue people had with the Rapids was nerfed so that it took little effort to do.
2) It really was not that difficult but it was a step up from World 1 which you could do with almost no effort. That’s usually typical in older games. There was an infantile mode that allowed players to bypass the majority of the challenges and see exactly where they were supposed to go. They could then go back and beat the obstacles which were very linear.
3) Each zone was longer than in any of the ones in World 1 but not excessively so. Unlike other instanced content, there’s relatively no fighting in SAB. You can actually ignore most of the enemies although it’s wise to just kill them which only requires a few hits. For those that are unable to do the content, there are always guides within a few days of release that walk you through everything.
4) Older games had deaths that were punishing too. There’s no reason that this game can’t have the same since it was built with those type of games in mind. At least there were decent checkpoints and the enemies did not respawn. Many old school games used the lives/continues feature where you’d have to restart if you ran out. I remember farming lives for Donkey Kong Country when it came out and having to learn the maps when playing Contra (without using the cheat).
5) There will always be the unpredictable occurrences which were also present way back when playing older games. There were no save anytime you want like in Skyrim which does reduce a lot of the challenge in games nowadays.
6) I never once had a disconnect during any of the releases. Any issues were on the players’ end the majority of the time. Losing power in older games also caused you to lose progress as well.
EDIT: What I saw as being the biggest issue was the lack of rewards. Unlike the first release, the rewards for the second were not great which was made worse with the timegating when they made almost everything once per day per account rather than by character.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Between now and HoT launch there is yet a lot of time, and if preparing SAB means that HoT is delayed by a couple of weeks due to some of the devs preparing SAB, I think it is completely worth it. Lets face it, they haven’t announced the release date yet, and if they were to release HoT in late August vs early September, it wouldn’t matter which date they chose, as the difference from now until then is minimal between the two.
To get to my point, spending some resources on SAB would give the playerbase an incredible amount of content compared to the devs needed, as it could easily make months fly by as we wait for the expansion to launch.
Conclusion: A few devs working on SAB as a side project would barely affect HoT as a whole, but make the time until launch so much more enjoyable that I think it would greatly benefit HoT and the whole game in a bigger perspective.
April 1, two weeks away.
It only took 7 Devs to make world 1 in the first place.
Really? do you know how long it took them?
Quick history lesson.
World 1 was made for fun, by a handful of devs, in their spare time. At least 80% of the work was done without even being paid, as a side project. The side project was cool and fun, so it was thrown into the game as a fun april fools joke.
It was immensely popular.
More time was allotted, and the devs were allowed to spend paid time working on w2. Unfortunately it had issues. There were bugs with latency they had not predicted, the levels were overtly long, making it very difficult for people to finish when it required 3+ hours of uninterrupted playtime to finish (6+ hours for many). And they released the biggest grind Tyria had ever seen with ascended weapons at the same time, keeping a large portion of the player base too busy to play content that didn’t help in any way to achieve those weapons.
W2 was not as popular as they hoped, and I am sure the suits decided it was a lost investment vs the expectations of a cash cow they wanted it to be.
W2 was promised to be reworked, to fix a lot of the issues. So they are not just taking the time to make w3, but to redesign all of w2. I expect the devs are not allotted time to work on it in their paid schedules, either.
But while they are working on W2, why can’t they also let us play the old w2? and the popular w1?
I’m not saying I agree with this, but the reason is likely along these lines:
w2 is seen as a problem, they will not re-release the problem to cause more problems and risk bringing more dislike towards the content. It was a massive barrier to their primary customer base: casuals. They can’t release w1, because no matter how much some of us may like it, releasing less content than they had before would cause a kittenstorm. They can’t release w2, for fear of causing the same kittenstorm as when it came out. As well, there WOULD be people complaining that they had released it without any new content. They can’t even release an updated w2, because people would only complain about things they liked being removed or shortened, and yet more would complain that there was no new content.
From a content/marketing perspective nothing they do would generate positive feedback, unless they release an updated w2, and a new w3. Even this being silent and not telling us anything is less damaging to the brand of gw2, and even the brand of super adventure box, than if they did any of the things we fans would like them to do in the mean time.
From Anet’s perspective they cannot bring SAB back to the focus without releasing new and improved content. So it is simply best for them to wait until they are ready to announce w3.
I don’t like that either, but it really is the best thing they can do.
I still don’t see how people spent 3+ hours on a map in World 2 unless they were doing the achievements. There’s nothing wrong with World 2 and it doesn’t need to be fixed.

Inquisit? Those the ones that let you choose a specific weapon type like you see for lower levels?
EDIT: Oh wait. You mean Inquest? Like you got them from the PvP reward track? Ascended are technically better than exotics with the impact armor gives being hardly worth the cost. All exotics are the same as other exotics.

I’m betting 10 Charrs that we don’t even get clickable interactable chairs during the expansion. Guild halls should have been around from day one of this sequel and then player housing added later for the expansion. That might have kept players around or even attract role player from other games.
For the record, we do have a pretty decent RP community in GW2, and the game hasn’t been terribly unfriendly to us. It’s just not been especially supportive either.
I know, but instead of fixing the map when it comes to getting into the aquarium and other places they imply that it’s a pathing error by “fixing” tele/shadowstep and the like. They did the same thing by “fixing” farmable events. Instead of putting a cast on a broken arm, they just amputate it.
Why should they constantly spend resources to patch the maps when the only reason they were needing to was because of a skill(s) that was not behaving as they intended? I’d say that they made a great call as this now frees up time that they would have spent patching the map from exploits that could only be taken advantage of by using blink.
Exactly. There’s potentially hundreds of spots where the skills in question could be exploited, some for an unfair advantage, some for harmless fun. Do you spend the time locating, identifying, and fixing each individual spot throughout the expansive world, or fix the couple of skills being exploited?
It’s not a skill that’s being exploited. It’s lazy game makers that don’t ensure wall glitching is fixed from the start. This kind of “fix” could have been applied from day one and there would be no complaints. If it was so easily done in a patch why wasn’t it done in the developmental stages?
Now that role players have been using it to get into building for RP purposes or exploiters and cheaters using it in PvP or WvW it’s now suddenly something that needs to be “fixed.” Maybe if this game had guild housing like most MMOs have now a days or have guild halls from the start, because GUILD wars this kind of thing wouldn’t stir up any kind of stink.
Players are using a skill to exploit vulnerabilities in the map structure. The skill behaved in a way that they did not intend and some players took advantage of that. Perhaps Anet exhausted other options first and just recently decided to go this route. Just look at the fall damaage bug which has existed since launch and just now got fix in a patch rather than the developmental stages. Either way, the change was justified.

“Camera Shake” option is enabled by default.
(I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt and saying that the unlisted feature that has a nausea warning on the checkbox isn’t SUPPOSED to be enabled off the bat)
It was the default before.
Double nerf.
Not in range? no Teleport.
No flat terrain? no teleport.
Just tested it, and stairs, something that 98% of times worked as ‘shadow step area’, doesn’t work anymore, not even in PVE divinities reach.
People have tested JI and confirmed distance doesn’t impact whether it works or not. It can still be used as a gap closer to things outside its port range. This based on posts in the guardians forum.
Guardians have what you pointed out, as well as a leap with GS. The cooldown for Retreat is shorter than an untraited Spectral Walk cooldown. JI and your sword teleport will STILL be useable; you’ll just have to be within range of your target.
So basically, to teleport anywhere you’ll have to ruin your stored by going into combat mode. Sounds like a great plan.
There are two translations going around. One is that the player must be within range and the other where there must be LOS. I’m personally holding off until I see from Anet what they’re changing before I make any judgments.
So how exactly is guardian the worst mobile class when they have perma swiftness?
Swiftness =! Escape Mechanism
Except people are not just talking about escape mechanisms and judge’s intervention hardly had a significant impact on escaping as it relied on you having a target to use it.
If you don’t understand how people use JI to escape, you’re either a PvE player or bad. One of those two.
To (hopefully) helpfully elaborate on Drennon’s comment, I think guard’s use JI to escape by targeting an enemy out of range and using the skill. They are then teleported the skill’s maximum distance in that direction.
And what they missed in my post was the last bit where it relied on you having an enemy target selected in order to use it. If you didn’t, then the skill wasn’t of much use for escaping.
Purchase any of them with glory when they were still available through that way?

i’m surprised it’s not closed because imagine people talking about this.. might cause a riot
