Which LS 3 Map Do YOU like the best?

in Living World

Ayrilana.1396

I might have to whittle it down.
Not Bitterfrost (too much freeze-cheese)
Not Draconis Mons (too much of a hassle to find events)

Not Ember Bay (nothing goes on there, Jade anything is a terrible mob)
Not Bloodstone Fen (Events are sparse/boring)

So, probably Lake Doric for me, even though those hearts take 3x too long to finish.

I do have to agree regarding Bitterfrost, anything I need to do in that map I have to stock up on stealth packs, or use my thief.

I am curious about the Lake Doric one, when I do my dailies, especially regarding the unbound magic, for me its darn near impossible to find unbound magic.

Going to the peach tree is the easiest considering you’re going there already for another daily.

That the one where you kick trees repeatedly and spiders fall out? Got frustrated with that.

No. That’s the one at the top of the map just east of Noran’s area.

Bitterfrost is the fastest. I typically did all maps at once when I was getting my sets. Avoid Bloodstone Fen as that will be the longest.

Ember Bay

Pure conjecture.

Dev statements leading up to raid release seemed to support his comment.

Yep, Devs stated raids are guild oriented, not pug. But it turned out to be easy to do with randoms.

Everything i have read has referred to organized/like minded groups. Not guilds specifically.

I’m gonna need a citation.

It’s from one of the twitch videos they did prior to the expansion launching. I don’t have time to find which one, and how far into it, but perhaps this would else someone else locate it.

You then went on about how stories in the game should be extensive with many choices that impact the story. I disagreed with this needing to be a part of events, hearts, and achievements which is what you started this thread about. You typically won’t see the choices in the living story because it adds compexity which Anet may or may not have the resources to do. Notice how short the stories of each episode are in order to compensate for getting a map with each? These choices are something you’ll see with expansions which we saw with HoT.

Just to check on the last point, HoT didn’t provide any quests like that (decisions) but you’re still expecting them to release some with the next expansion? Why do you think they’ll include them next time? Or is it just theoretically, if they ever released those quests, they would come in an expansion?

I suggest you play HoT again because you were given choices at least three times. This is why I had suggested that many of your issues would be resolved by playing the stories again because you likely forgot elements.

GW2 doesn’t do quests in the traditional sense so asking whether or not they’ll release quests in the next expansion compared to the previous is pointless. They’ve included choices in previous storylines (i.e. Personal story and HoT) so there no reason to not believe that they would do it for the next expansion. At least one event chain had this in VB tooalthough its impact is fairly minimal.

Did you read the news where it was stated that it was stopped?

The same reports mentioned that it was probably straightforward for other ‘hackers’ to use the same technique to replicate , that it just takes one mistake by one person in an enterprise network, and that we got lucky that the ‘kill switch’ that shut down this infection was so easily discovered.

That said, companies serious about their data & software (such as ANet) already have disaster recovery protocols in place and already test them. Those that aren’t (yet) worried about it aren’t going to be able to make it happen overnight.

That’s always been a risk for a long time which didn’t just suddenly increase because of recent events. Many of the articles mentioned this became so widespread because of a perfect storm of events.

Many companies already perform backups routinely and even back up the back ups.

@Ayrilana I think you’re not even trying to understand what I’m saying. You might want to try to think outside the box, re-read it, put it into context with everything and try to understand.

I understand what you’re saying. I’m just disagreeing with you.

Is that so? You didn’t even refer to most of my last post. You ignored everything you couldn’t answer and cherry-picked a few points. It doesn’t make sense to discuss further with this narrow point of view.

I didn’t cherry pick. I stated that a lot of what you said could be resolved by simply following the story. I’m not going to sit here and explain how such and such occurred or didn’t occur and why when doing the story answers that.

You feel achievements should have a story. I disagree as there’s no need to which I compared them to being just about equivalent to GW1’s titles.

You feel that hearts have no story. I disagreed because there are a lot that do if you speak to the NPC. The dialogue adds some depth to what it is that you’re trying to accomplish for the NPC. Many players don’t realize this because progress towards the heart can be made by just being within the vicinity of the heart. There’s also the “thank you” that you get from the NPC after completing a heart.

You claimed that events had no story. I disagreed and stated that quite a lot did including one of the examples you had given. I also stated that the story wasn’t going to be in your face like the story instances but rather you’d have to listen to NPC dialogue and among other things.

You then went on about how stories in the game should be extensive with many choices that impact the story. I disagreed with this needing to be a part of events, hearts, and achievements which is what you started this thread about. You typically won’t see the choices in the living story because it adds compexity which Anet may or may not have the resources to do. What story do they tell? Let’s take this event chain as an example: Escort the Vigil squad to the ancient ruins. Pocket raptors appear. Kill them. More pocket raptors appear. Kill them. Rolling devils appear. Kill them. Some sarcastic remarks about these enemies: “Oh look, new friends!”. Vigil Marksman: I sense some sort of druidic magic. Druids appear. Next event: Kill the druids. Next event: A spirit of nature appears. Kill it. After it’s been defeated it tells you to leave the place. You leave.

Listen to and/or read the text from the NPC’s. Pay attention to what it is that you’re doing for the event. For that particular event, it helps to set things up if you’re there before the escort actually starts.

“Rose-colored glasses.” Since there were some content droughts in GW2, I jumped back into Guild Wars 1 now and then, did some quests, explored places I’ve never seen before and so on. There are tons of story lines being told. Small ones like helping out someone find their missing relatives and larger quests that either branch out or continue afterwards.

Just like there are with events and a lot of hearts.

Earlier I said something’s missing and I think now I know what I meant to say:

The core game of GW2 had a “personal story”. Human: You’re poor, living on the streets, you’re trying to find out who you are, you may not even know your parents. All the decisions you can do when you create your character. After the lvl 30-40 story instances, everything merges with the Zhaitan story (cooperative missions in GW1). After defeating Zhaitan we’ve never come back to those type of quests. Your character is just a nameless commander that kills Elder Dragons. Charr characters did not report back to their legions, the Asura never went back to Rata Sum. All of our characters have no life at all. We can’t make decisions on our own, would we like to cooperate with bandits or seperatists? Or would we rather meet out noble friends in Divinity’s Reach? Maybe there are some dodgy intrigues going on. What if our Charr character is still sceptical towards humans and we’ll see some quests trying to convince him not to be? Maybe he would change, maybe it would fail completely and he’ll hate the human race even more. That would have been an improvement over Guild Wars 1’s “one dimensional” quests (no decisions except for yes/no).

All of that has been pushed away by the Living Story and HoT (cooperative missions). There are no personal quests, our character has no personality at all. There’s no way we could make decisions and identify ourselves with our characters. That’s a main aspect of storytelling, no matter if it’s movies or even more games. They completely forgot about our characters. There’s more than just Elder Dragons in Tyria.

I don’t see why you stated that it’s at level 30 that the personal story shifts to Zhaitan and seem to make it at that point that it becomes like GW1’s cooperative missions. They’re the same from the beginning.

The character is far from nameless. It helps to follow the story from the beginning which would answer a lot of what you said. Not everything needs to be spelled out either.

Maybe you also tried out Star Wars The Old Republic at some point. I didn’t play it much but even the quests at the beginning had the option to choose what to do. Elder Scrolls Online did it as well. You’ve captured a villain, do you let him go and cooperate with him, do you kill him or do you just arrest him? Do you lie to someone at some point? Does it have an effect on the story? What’s the personality of your character really like?
That’s a pretty interesting part of a “Massively Multiplayer Online ROLE PLAYING Game”. And it’s missing completely in GW2. It’s something heart quests, events and even Living Story will never tell you about.

Adding various paths for the living story requires more resources and adds much more complexity. You’re more likely to see that with expansion stories which they did do.

I don’t remember many players requesting these hearts. I do remember however (when they were announced) that many people expected them to be different to starter area hearts. They would have accepted them if Anet improved the implementation. But they’re just exactly the same as the ones in lvl 1-15 zones.

It was a small group of players on the forums like most things you see suggested for or complained about. They’re like all hearts in the game and not just the lvl 1-15 zones.

So if those achievements are not equal to quests, where’s the replacement of traditional quests in GW2? Events are fast-paced, shallow tasks (Escort the Vigil squad to the ancient ruins. Kill the champion webby mother. Repel the aggressive mercenaries.) which obviously can’t tell a story like GW1 quests did. Living Story instances are more like cooperative missions. Something’s missing.

GW2 never had quests as there have only been events or hearts. Events do tell a story but usually if they’re part of a chain such as ‘Escort the Vigil squad to the ancient ruins’. Let’s also not forget that many of GW1 quests were shallow tasks that were nothing more than go here or fetch this for the most part. Living story instances are like GW1 missions.

Be careful not to look at GW1 with rose-colored glasses. This is what quite a number of players are doing who praise GW1 and criticize GW2. They don’t realize that people complained just as often and about similar things during the time of GW1. I’m pretty sure that if they released GW3, people would be praising this game like they do GW1.

As you said, the heart vendors can tell you a little more about the region or the people around, but most of the time it’s basically a further description of the tasks. Story quests would contain characters, plot and one’s own initiative just like the living story does.

Which is no different that many quest NPC dialogues in other games. What you’re wanting done just isn’t something you see often in games. Even the quests in the highly acclaimed Elder Scroll console games don’t do this. Do WoW quests even do what you’re thinking should be done?

Hearts were brought back because players requested them.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call an achievement a quest no more than I would call maxing a GW1 title a quest.

As for “stories” attached to hearts, you most often get more details about what you’re doing when you talk to the heart NPC.

Both of these are pretty much PvE dailies where you go and kill veteran mobs.

Daily Camp Capturer is about a medium since, while you’re fighting PvE enemies, it can be annoying to find camps to claim as they’re either on long cooldown from just being claimed or get claimed before you can get to them.

Hard shutdowns, at first the screen would “blue” screen (black screen) but my computer was obviously still on
Tried to troubleshoot and now it’s a hard shutdown after 2-3 minutes

Windows 10
Intel core i5 (had my game on medium to low settings)
4 GB RAM (get the feeling I’m wrong)

No other game has done this so far

I had this issue on my PC and traced it to a failing GPU. Do you have a spare, or can get one from someone temporarily, so that you can swap it out and see if that resolves the issue?

Having 4GB is a bit on the low side nowadays as you want around 8GB. Since it just came up when you got the laptop, what are the stats on it?

Yep. And it appears that the price will only continue to fall until people stop farming it with their engineers. Supply has tripled within the past two weeks and buy orders have fallen by 40%(?).

I think the April 28th attempt was someone trying to make a point about the price issue. I could be mistaken.

So much for the “challenging” portion of it, right? Why bother waiting for an organized run of the one-shot-KO track when plopping an unorganized farm gets the better rewards?

But so far, this is just a market blip. Maybe the engi farm is finally putting a dent in demand, but it’s still not significantly different from the beginning of the year nor the price drop between mid-January to mid-February, before the episode released.

It’s only a matter of time before someone finds a way to dumb down something that’s supposed to be ‘challenging’. Unfortunately Anet didn’t set the bar that high to begin with, so that players wouldn’t be excluded, such as if the difficulty was set to that of raids.

Yeah, it’s just a ‘blip’ right now since it started two weeks ago. It’ll take much more time to determine if this is lasting.

I have one last runestone to get tonight to finish phase 3. I’m hoping the fix will be in relatively soon so I can work on phase 4. in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

While it might not be great lorewise, I have suggested before to make raid bosses count towards the giant slayer achievement. Its a tedious achievement to do, and raid boss kills are hard timegated anyway, so it wouldn’t trivialize giant slayer at all. But it adds a tiny bit more reason to keep raiding after you get leg armor if you don’t have that achievement yet. And it could potentially entice a few more players to try raids, in order to progress that achievement.

That defeats the purpose of the achievement though which is to kill giants. It’s really no different than letting raid boss kills count towards the skritt slayer achievement with the only difference being that skritt are more numerous.

And throughout those several months, people have shown that they are still upset over the price of leather

And their opinion has an expiration date which needs to be renewed every couple months? Otherwise, why would their statement before still not apply now?

Yea but they won’t even acknowledge that a lot of players are still not happy with the state of leather. Can we not even get an acknowledgement about this? Even if it was just them saying “We think leather is fine” at least that would mean it was acknowledged

They stated their opinion/acknowledgment during a previous AMA.

Edit:

They created the leather farm so that players would have control over the prices.

This relies on players doing the actual farm in lieu of more profitable gold farms.

If enough players do this continuously, it’ll impact prices.

Since the engi farm became popular, supply has increased significantly along with the price falling to its lowest since the end of February. The trend appears to be likely to continue so prices could fall further.

Hammer shock is a conic attack in front of the player. And just so this doesn’t go back and forth listing skills, there isn’t just one thing that determines whether a skill shouldn’t be used from behind a player. Projectiles is of course one but it can include skills designed to only trigger in front of the player.

You just don’t like warrior do you? I have seen skills with 7 times much more description than endure pain. Tell me how hard it is to say “you are susceptible to conditions, indirect damage and control effects.”

[Bug] Traps can be used twice

Ayrilana.1396

This isn’t a bug; it’s how traps work.

Is it balanced? Doesn’t seem like it to me, given how other skill types have been implemented. So I’d support ANet taking a second look.

All the same, I think you’d have better luck turning this into a suggestion rather than presenting it as a rant about something that isn’t clearly a bug.

Ranger spirits once behave like the trap cooldown. The ranger would summon spirits and run around the map meanwhile the spirit cooldown time will reset and if the spirit died, then you could summon another spirit of the same type. Of cource anet patched it because it was a bug.

The same thing is happening with traps. It is an exploit that needs a fix fast.
A group of 5 guardians place 5 traps each on a point, if someone comes they will be hit with a total of 50 traps.

If that is not an exploitable game play then what is it?

Ranger spirits wasn’t changed because it was a bug…

The sprits are also very much different than traps.

You’re incorrect to call the thing with traps an exploit.

Perhaps instead of accusing this as an exploit, or assuming it to be a bug because you don’t like it, you make a suggestion for it to be changed?

Unless of course Anet doesn’t find this to be a bug but rather intended.

from personal experiance the following can be asumed
1. all except winterberries have a limit on nodes gathered – not rubies etc but actual gathering per node.
2. nodes take 24hrs to reset per chr – to say a chr does the nodes in bloodstone fen at 11am they cant touch the nodes till after 11am next day as an example – but another chr can do the nodes if the limit hasnt been reached .

i tend to chr rotate so a diff chr does the map daily – dont confuse it with a fresh chr who can still gather the nodes on daily reset . I tested this a while back by having a chr gather from 3 nodes and check the map every few hrs till the 24hr mark reached to see when the 3 nodes respawned. I would have liked it if anet allowed the nodes to be gathered after the limit was reached but would give no “currency” , it would just give dust etc.
I do believe across all but bitterfrost have a limit in the range of 50 nodes – for me thats usually 2 – 3 chrs worth of gathering where node = 1 gather , that theory was from lake doric where there is no way in hell 25 jade nodes on the map so the only way 50 nodes can be applied is 50 gathering which is probably ( and ive not tried to count ) 12 – 15 nodes at a guess , which is around 3 – 4 chrs gathering would hit the 50 limit easily . This is just theory tho based on 4 chr rotation jus incase they try and node farm and accidently take a chr in who is part into respwning as some wont show .

Your #2 is wrong. Well… not completely as there’s more going on than just a 24 hour timer. Try gathering after reset or a few hours before 11am.

That’s different than categorizing a skill’s damage.

Something isn’t bugged because you say so. With how long long it’s been in the game, and how they had similar skills behave as such in GW1, it’s more than likely intended.

Oh, and of all the skills you listed in that link, none of them are projectiles like impale.

It is a bug because it is not doing what it says in the description as simple as that.

  • Hammer Shock is not a projectile yet you cannot hit enemies behind you while running, so your argument is invalid.

So descriptions should be incredibly detailed to include everything otherwise omissions are seen as bugged?

Hammer shock is a conic attack in front of the player. And just so this doesn’t go back and forth listing skills, there isn’t just one thing that determines whether a skill shouldn’t be used from behind a player. Projectiles is of course one but it can include skills designed to only trigger in front of the player.

I can give you a summary of key events:

  • Zhaitan awakes, destroys Lions Arch.
  • Cobiah Marriner rebuilds Lions Arch.
  • The rest of the world accepts Zhaitan may be a bigger threat than originally believed. The pact is formed as a unison of the five largest civilizations, supported by minor civilizations, and denied by dome (see tengu) to combat the Elder Dragon.
  • An Asura learns of the magic corruption of Elder Dragons, Zojja devices a cannon that absorbs the corrupted magic and fires it back at Zhaitan to kill it. ED1 down.
  • peaceful times
  • Molten Alliance is formed
  • Toxic Court is formed
  • Aetherblade is formed
  • Scarlet attacks and destroys Lion’s Arch, because a leyline node was directly underneath it. Hitting it, and overloading the channel caused Mordremoth to awaken.
  • Sylvari Rebellion
  • Rata Novus found, weakness of elder dragons found
  • Mordremoth fought and defeated by breaking his mind. Trahearne executed because he bore a fragment of Mordremoth’s mind from which he could be reborn.
  • peaceful times
  • Soldiers went missing, a group of adventurers (note, canonically not the pact commander) followed the trail of bandits.
  • behind the bandits a unison of the White Mantle was found
  • Xera was defeated, but the stasis chamber is empty. The white mantle was deceived into believing they resurrected Lazarus successfully, but were fooled by Balthazar and his mirror he took (or stole) from Lyssa.
  • White Mantle orchestrates a regicide against Queen Jennah, but fails. Caudecus is executed soon after.
  • Braham successfully recovers a legendary artifact that once wounded Jormag, denies the commander and heads north.
  • The commander exposes the lies of Lazarus and reveals he’s Balthazar. Balthazar in turn has been deprived of magic to a point he’s no longer as godlike as he once was. He intends to end the elder dragons and take their magic to restore his glory. We manage to stop him, but he’s recovered quite a bit. Taimi believed executing any more elder dragons could cause fluctuating imbalance that may end the world.
  • (future) Braham may use the super-arrows on the now knocked-out Jormag
  • (future) Balthazar may come back to try again, or go after Jormag as well

Balthazar had no power that a lie cause he the explosion
And stuck all the magic power from blood stone.

Weapon collections

Collections are based around a theme such as all destroyer weapons. A collection for all dagger would be impractical because addtional daggers could be expanded at a later time. Would those not be included? If they’re included then it would impact those who have not completed the collection.
