The fate of Maguuma's dinosaurs

When I first got to explore Sparkfly fen, I was expecting more of the epic dinosaur fights seen there in EotN. I was somewhat disappointed then that apart from a few raptors the entire area is deserted of large reptilian megafauna.
What happened to all the Angoradons, Ceratadons, Ferothrax and Tyrannus that used to live here? If they died out then how come none of them have become risen?
A risen Tyrannus boss would have been much more exciting than just another champion risen shark, which we see in several other maps.

I’m not so convinced Berserker gear is so OP as you seem to think. Having tried it I only really ended up with one character with Berserker armour. My engineer is a dual pistol condition/crit spammer and I find Rampager gear more effective for him. As for my warior, I find berserker accessories useful, but if I want to be able to survive boss battles in melee I need something more resiliant, I ended up opting for Knight’s Toughness, power, precision stats on my armour. Only my ranger uses Berserker gear, and even then not a full set.
Berserker gear does give you good attack power, but you can’t take any damage if you use it for everything. Especially if you play melee, you can’t expect to dodge everything, just the really big spike attacks. The rest of the time the limits of your endurance regeneration rate means you have to be able to absorb that punishment.

And what alternate means of air transport do the Charr posses? Somehow I think airships have the edge efficiency wise over Charr choppers for long range supply work. Helicopters after all have to burn fuel for every second of lift, the airship gets lift for free from it’s lift gas, and only needs fuel for propulsion. I think it’d be a boon for them as it’d be a lot faster, and freer from interdiction than pack dolyak/mamox trains.

Yes, but as Rytlock says in Ascalon Catacoumbs, “the humans pushed us out and built Ascalon ontop of it.” This says Ascalon is the name for the human kingdom, the Charr would have their own name for the region.

The only thing I’d like changed on battle roar is the line “Remember Ascalon!” which to me has never made much sense for a Charr to shout, especially when teamed up with humans, among others. Makes my charr sound like a total kitten when he says that with a human fighting beside him.

Charr Hood Armor - Close Enough

Durman Priory light armour hood is good for Charr too, it starts behind the horns and covers the neck.
For medium the Duelist head gear is probably my favorite, or the pirate hat if you want something a bit funnier.
Heavy helmets, it’s hard to beat the Vigil helmet. clean, doesn’t clip ears, teeth or horns and the roman look suits Charr quite well with their legion structured society.

One of the lines the Charr soldier toys marching around the black Citadel during wintersday was “Three E’s of battle: Endurance, Efficiency, Elegance.” Seems to suggest the Charr do care about appearance, as presumably a Charr would have provided the voice for the toys. It’s just not the number one thing they’re concerned about. Unlike say, the Norn!

Remember, the other big limiting factor on Charr logistics is Charr are primarily carnivorous. It’s a lot harder to transport meat than grain based hard tack. Jerky helps, but it’s still going to be more bulky. The Charr are also not blessed by Geography, no easily navigable rivers, no coastline. Land transport has always been slower. Once the Charr get enough airships free from fighting dragons though, they could be set for a major expansion, since airships would be able to rapidly deliver supplies to armies far from the Charr centers of supply.

As for food, if it’s not something like Pizzas that can be used to make something else once I level up. I just sell it, or if no one wants it, I eat it. Eating food is an achievement goal after all.

Absolutely for this, I use this armour for my Charr Engineer as it’s perfect engineer style with all the pouches to keep all his gadgets in. I really want at least the hat to go with it, as medium armour is seriously lacking in GOOD headgear at present, in my opinion. (Only 2 I like are the pirate hat, and the Duelist hood). I also agree that an alternative look to trench coats would be nice, or at least model them better for Charr. Almost none of them have tail holes so on a char the tail just clips through them.

I actually use the Commando coat, shoulder, and pants on my engineer, I like how it looks with all the pockets and pouches to keep his gadgets in! sadly it does not seem to be possible to get the full set of commando armour (including a nice hat) outside of PvP gear :P I used tier 3 charr culture boots as I think the Iron claw covers and cleets suit an engineer, and the baggynes of the commando pants means I can wear them without them clipping, which happens on a lot of other leggings and those boots.

Warrior : “Sorry, am I crushing your throat? Speak up, I can’t hear you!”

Ranger: “The Charr have always loved animals, we eat very little else.”

Guardian: “I just do these rituals, I don’t care why they work, ok.”

Engineer: “You can always find some way to blow something up, the real skill is in not being there when it happens.”

Thief: “Cat got your tongue? Why yes I do, and probably your lungs as well.”

Elementalist: “Worst part of this job is getting my fur to lie flat again after I use air magic.”

Mesmer: “You’ll go further in this life with a blade and a good spell, than with a blade alone.”

Necromancer: “Death is but a doorway, let me open it for you.”

I think I’d agree that the Charr probably don’t care what you do off duty, as long as you don’t disrupt the city (as one guard in the black citadel tells a drunk “When it disrupts my city, your fun IS my problem!”) I like the idea of there being a Charr nip plant that makes them go all mellow and cub-like, I imagine casual use would be tollerated off duty, but any Charr becoming dependant would be ridiculed for their weakness in becoming a witless slave to a PLANT.

Bathos.6341

Well in order:
1. Cantha (specifically would love to see the imperial city with the new graphics, that place was epic the FIRST time round!)
2. Playable Tengu race.
3. New weapons: (Crossbows, that’s top of the list for me, I like the things. Oh and a 2 handed axe weapon family would be nice as well.)
4. New pets: I’m a ranger and more pets to choose from is always fun, not sure what you’d use, but some form of ranged underwater pet would be useful I think.
5. New food: I like cooking, new food and ingredients would be fun. Hopefully including fish, the lack of any way to cook fish kind if irritates me atm.
6. New gear. I expect I’ll probably be somewhat kitted out in epic stuff by the time the next campaign comes out, hence why it’s last on my list. But there is always room for another suit of armour somewhere! LOL

I’ll fight some underwater bosses, IF I seen anyone else there. What I won’t do is any underwater boss in a CAVE. I mean who’s bright idea was this to put a creature designed to down people frequently in a place where you can’t reach the surface? I find that even with a group of players very few bother to revive players when underwater, so a cave based boss is just a good way to loose gear.

Jumping Puzzles as a Charr

Must say I think the jump puzzles are just plain badly designed. if you’re going to cram them into small confined places, at least we need some way to lock the camera so we don’t end up jumping blind cos the camera won’t stay in any remotely useful angle to show you what you’re trying to land on.

Charr Horns and Head Armors

in Charr

Posted by: Bathos.6341

Bathos.6341

Well obviously the best fitting armour for Charr is the Charr racial kit. The Generic armours need work though, especially the ones with long coats as these almost never have any kind of tail hole for their Charr versions. If you’re a medium armour user the Arah dungeon medium set is very nice, as long as you hide/transmute that frikking awful mask. The fact that the coat not only has a tail hole but actually an armoured tail protector that extends out about 30cm along the top of the tail and moves in sync with it is a very nice detail. Now can we have some more of that on the rest of the armours please?

Your character names origins

Bathos the Bow. Bathos from the Greak for “depth” is a term and is used to describe any kind of performance meant to evoke strong emotion rendered farsical by poor or over acting. Given how the Charr emote , this seems entirely appropriate for a Character name (this also sometimes applies to me, hence this being my username) the Bow, simple, he’s a ranger that spends about 80% of the time using a longbow.
Brax Redreaver is named for a dragon in a very old rpg I once owned who was called “Deftclaw Redreaver” Always thought it was a good name, and it fitted nicely with my warrior being blood legion.
