I can honestly say I’d have rather had a new playable race than mounts, I’m sure I’ll find some amusement from them so long as the controls aren’t horrible. But I’d have been more impressed with being able to play as something new for this expansion.
Honestly, I don’t know a single person in my guild that was hyped that they might be getting mounts with this expansion. I’ll take it, but it’s not what I was hoping for.

This is why I hate Deus Ex machinas in stories, they don’t explain anything, they just drop in a random new element and hand break turn the plot into a new direction because they couldn’t think of a way to do change of direction for the plot that makes sense.

Just when I was beginning to hope the story writing abilities of the living story tem might FINALLY be maturing at long last and produce a story that was coherent, and enjorable, Flashpoint launches. Leaving aside the frankly AWFUL map which makes TD look easy to navigate, The story is poorly exectuted, chews continuity and is as lazier than most of my School English essays.
To sum up my problem, this reveal, that has been built up to all this living world season wasn’t worth the wait. It was a human god all along? Ok, with NO shadowing what so ever that the Gods were even present in Tyria any more, or any reason to suspect he would have spontaneously gone mad and decided to power grab. I’m sure someone at anet is really kittening happy with themselves that the resolution of this seaon, and why we’re not going to be fighting Primordus and Jormag next expansion is not only figuratively a deus ex machina, BUT IS LITERALLY, A BLOODY GOD, IN A BLOODY MACHINE!
Oh wonderful not only are the writing staff on this episode using the biggest crutch in writing as used by all writers lacking any/all of the following: imagination, motivation, time or competence. They have to rub our noses in it by making their deus ex machina, A DEUS EX MACHINA!
This is like those crappy movies where they try and make you laugh by being self aware that they suck.
The same logic I apply there can be applied here. Being aware you’re writing badly, does not suddenly make you a Booker Prize winner. But it does make you a fine example of of the Dunning-Kruger effect. So congratulations whoever came up with this plot twist, you’re not quite ENTIRELY clueless, because you KNOW you sucked.
Quite frankly, I refuse to have anything more to do with this episode, and by extension its map. I’ll be waiting the final episode to see if someone managed to figure out which one of the writer’s brains fell out and replace them.

Red SAB skins, NOT LIKE THIS!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bathos.6341

Bathos.6341

I like how they look, but please, NO MORE STUFF TIED TO DAILIES!
There’s quite honestly, no real value to skins earned this way to me. Something I achived myself from completing a challenge, or collection, but this? I played the game on 16 conecutive days, here is a weapon to prove it. What is this meant to make people feel?
Greatly disappointed to see that once again Anet have been to bone idle to put in ANY new content for SAB, They couldn’t even add any new achievements to do.
Quite frankly, I might have expected better from them. SAB is one of the best things they’ve ever made in this game, but of course I shouldn’t be surprised. I mean it’s like almost everything else that’s actually good in their game they will refuse to FINISH IT.
I would willingly pay for world 3 and 4 as dlc at this point if that would get them DONE. Sadly making SAB a festival has put it inline with anet’s other festivals, IE recycled content that is never updated or supported beyond a few new skins or items to buy in the gem store.
Every time there is a festival on I imagine Anet have half their development staff on holiday, I mean it’s 2 weeks to a month where they don’t release anything.

Things I’ like to see,
Cantha added to the playable world map
New player race (prefer Tengu, but anything would be interesting
A longer campaign than HoT with less mastery gating to pad the length out.
Player housing with ability to display trophies, similar to Hall of monuments (need not be that expensive)
A Ruins of Deldrimore raid/Dwarven weapons
Aurene becoming a fleshed out character with a voice.
Hollowed out volcano lair for guild hall, Zepherite style kite town guildhall.
Fixed water combat (I happen to think it isn’t that bad on SOME professions, though others certainly are bad).

I spent some of my excess carma on ales to boost up the thirst slayer achivement. Imagine my horror at when i find the game expects me to click every single mug to use. have you any idea how annoying it is to have to click 7500 times in a row to empty your inventory? I was going to use a Hotkey until I discovered this would be considered against the game’s terms of use! This sort of thing is going to destroy my mouse, and/or my hand. Essence of luck had this issue fixed ages ago, so why not alcohol, which we also need to consume in bulk for achivements?

I’d like it if they redesigned the tribulation shield skins. The original blue one is a two colour item, with a blue border, box and sword, and a yellow backing. All the tribulation skins turn it monochrome. How about making the yellow one the blue skin inverted? (pale blue back, yellow box, sword and border), and the green one Green sword, box and border with a cyan background. The orange one could be orange border box and sword with a red or yellow background. I think they’d look MUCH nicer with a two colour design that they do now.

First, I found it quite amusing when Charrnip was added as an ingredient for the legendry backpice collections. But it occurs to me that if we follow the logical line that Charrnip is catnip for charr, then calling it a snack’s not really accurate. Have you ever seen a cat dosed on catnip?
It’s quite funny really that a popular pet toy like catnip is actually a psychoactive drug for cats! Any time you give a pet cat catnip, you’re essentially giving it the feline equivalent to marijuana.
I’m now chuckling to myself at the mental image of stoned charr chewing on charrnip, playing with their tails, or chasing imaginary Skritt!

SAB for me was a great change of pace from endless farming and fractals, with a nice set of weapons to collect as an added bonus. My ranger still runs with a Green SAB longbow.
I’d like to see SAB again as they did say back around SAB’s second appearence that world 3 would have red skins, and SAB weapons in red sound very nice to me.
SAB also had agreat sense of humor, and retro gamer easter eggs I could appreciate like The princess just being Moto’s avatar in a dress! or the genie of the game (Anyone else here rember the game genie cheat cartridges for 8 and 16 bit consoles?). It even gave you the Konami code to enter into a console in rata sum for a funny little comedy scene “WAFFLES EXIST IN EVERY DIMENSION!” is still one of my top 10 GW2 quotes.

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Bathos.6341

Bathos.6341

Issue with the bat wings, oddly specific to female charr only (previewed on my Male charr engineer and did not have the issue my female revenant does).

I really don’t understand when there is virtually no difference to the shape of the charr torso between genders (main differences are head and tail) how they can be fitting correctly for male charr, and popping completely off on female charr any time you’re holding a 2 hander, and are clearly not attached properly at any time.

It’s not an issue with the coat either as I’ve tried previewing every coat skin in my wardrobe and the wings don’t attach properly with any of them.

Ok… this is even wierder than I first thought. I knew these wings didn’t look broken when I first looked at them in gem store. I hadn’t made my revenant then I was looking on my charr engineer. difference, he’s male, my Revenant’s female. How the HELL do you break these wings only on FEMALE charr? There’s virtually no difference in the body mesh, but they fit male charr fine, while they’re constantly popping off on females.

Bathos.6341

Can someone from arenanet PLEASE fix this mess? When my character holds a 2 handed weapon my wings bakcpack come completely adrift from me.
This is some of the worst positioning I have seen in the time I have been playing this game and I’m really annoyed since there is no way to see this in preview since you can only see the preview while in a neutral static pose.
(although even in static out of combat pose they’re still out of position, they’re at least not floating completely off my back!)
I’ve tried checking through my armour wardrobe of coats, and none of them work any better than this.
I really would have expected better from a high price gem store item, especially given the quality of the bird wings, and some of the recent outfits.
Edit: in addition to this fit issue, the wings stay visable when using shadowstep skills like unrelenting assault.

Always stuck me as a bad deal that a limited edition dye pack mostly gives NORMAL dyes you can pick up anytime. Wtf couldn’t they have limited edition dyes of different rarity? I espcially feel that the new system for rangers is unusable. All in all. there is no way I’m buying the expansion now. In 3 years Anet have taken a game that started out as the most enjoyable MMO I’d ever played and gradually turned it into a casual, aimless mess that leaves me totally demotivated to play on with for any reason at all.

There is NO SUCH THING as free in retail, ever notice that places offering “intrest free credit” always seem to have slightly higher prices? that’s because the base price is including intrest, so even if you buy it up front you’ve essentially payed intrest as if you bought it on credit anyway.
If the xpac includes a “free” copy of the base game, then the markup is enough to pay for including guild wars 2 in the bundle. Therefor, veterans are paying for including the GW2 base game, but not getting it because it does not count as an additional account for people already playing, it’s just deleted. I’ve always felt Anet value new players over existing, and this proves it perfectly. Anet really have decided to go for a revolving door on players, there really is not much point to me in playing any more since they have never rewarded people for staying in the game long term.

I like underwater combat, but sadly atm there’s not much to do with it. Another problem is the underwater weapons are 2 handers but do the same damage as 1 handers. so character dps is a lot lower in water, but the enemy HP doesn’t seem to be any lower, this makes fights take longer. Oh and we need better Aquabreathers, atm they’re only available upto rare, and only in a few stats, I want to be able to get an aquabreather that matches the stats of the rest of my armour.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bathos.6341

I bought one extra slot for my ranger and one for my warrior, my first two characters. this was because when the game first launched crafting required all items in inventory and as my chef the ranger needed more space. My warrior got one for dungeon running. in the almost three years since then I have not felt the need to buy more, and given I now have 7 characters it’s unlikely I will pay to buy any more on a per character basis.

Don’t forget that most royal households had so called “cadet” branches, even if the main royal line died out there are likely some survivors with ascalonian royal blood left through marrages between younger sons and daughters of the royal house to other aristocratic families of Ascalon.. they question is how would anyone figure out which one is next in line 250 years later? Those that survived probably didn’t have time to bring a full geneology with them when fleeing ascalon.

in Lore

Bathos.6341

My contention is merely that the origins of the human charr war are much older than the searing, and netiehr side is innocent. lets leave it at that, saking for vengence on the charr is just going to continue a war of massacre and counter massacure that’s been going on for centuries already, which does no one any good, especuially during a dragon incursion.
P.S. While the charr did take their land from the grawl before them, the difference there is they never tried to completely remove the grawl. You’d still find grawl tribes living in charr territory, you didn’t find any charr villages in Ascalon under human rule.

This content gap is frustrating. Hell if there’s no time to do anything new, bring super adventure box back, even if it means no world 3, or new skins, just let us replay worlds 1 and 2 while we wait.
You’d have a HUGE number of long term players cheering if anet did that we’ve been asking for more super adventure box for over a year now. And it’d be something to do for players who were not around for the last run of it. In addition some jumping practice could come in very handy for HoT given how much it seems to be using vertical map building.

Yeah, driven on by the flame legion. Even the charr think the flame legion were out of line there.
The russians didn’t stop at the russian border when they threw germany out in the second world war either. It’s easy to get carried away in a war for vengence, especially if your leadership is corrupt.

Which parts of the lore annoy or depress you?

in Lore

Posted by: Bathos.6341

Bathos.6341

You clearly need to look at that lore more closely. Ascalon was built by humans ON CHARR LAND. they didn’t just come in and conqour the charr living there, they ETHNICLY CLEANSED the entire region. What do you think happened to the displaced charr?
Those that did not die fighting. They got shoved north to the bloodlegion homelands, but that land was already occupied.
The charr were a bronze age tribal society back then, you can’t just double the population in their remaining territory. Those charr that survived expulsion from ascalon either killed a northern tribe and took their space, died trying to do this, or STARVED TO DEATH.
The charr didn’t attack ascalon out of malace, they attacked it to take back land taken from them, and to avenge an entire GENERATION of their people massacred by humans.
The humans sowed the wind, they should have expected to wreap the whirlwind.
Charr killed civilians, and enslaved human prisoners for brutal forced labor, Humans as recently as the events of guild wars 1 used to skin dead charr and use their hide for suits of armour.
Two wrongs don’t equal a right, but right now the scores are even at one genocide a side, and I’d really rather the war stopped there rather than cause any more.
