No they shouldn’t go pure Solo Queue it’s not the fault of the grouped players that understand that conquest PvP was designed solely around 5v5 premises. They should make it a duo/trio Queue then each side will have exactly the same amount of people grouped together on each team and will somewhat preserve the fact that the game was designed for 5v5 organized groups.
There may be not enough pure 5v5 premades but the duo/trio Queue should be more than enough of the population based on what I have seen with most of the matches I have been in having more grouped players than Solo.

Mordremoth was able to subjugate and communicate with the sylvari not because of a draconic power, but because of its inherent connection with the Dream of Dreams—this capability was not transmitted to the other Dragons because it was a natural characteristic of Mordremoth itself, one that (supposedly) existed priorly to it becoming an Elder Dragon.
It’s important to remember that sylvari are not dragon minions themselves, they become such only when turned into actual Mordrem. While other Elder Dragons could in theory corrupt the sylvari then, they ultimately can’t do it because—in the end—they aren’t able to access their minds, which is in on itself a fundamental step in the corruption process.
Regarding the ongoing discussion about the overlapping corruption, my take is that an Elder Dragon cannot corrupt those already turned by other Elder Dragons simply because the minions in question were already subjugated by one entity, the minions’ minds cannot be overwritten and/or subjugated furtherly by another Elder Dragon—corrupting others’ dragon minions is impossible for an Elder Dragon.Concerning what happened in the Crucible of Eternity, there’s no sign that those actually corrupted by the Inquest actually responded to the Elder Dragons, if anything they might have been intended to respond to Kudu.
In the end, the most powerful experiments (Subject Alpha above all) turned out to be some kind of crazed creations, not responding to anyone.
It is important to read Official Dev posts and In game lore stating that Sylvari were designed/created by Mordremoth. They were just not initially subjected to Mordremoths will because of plot armor around the Pale Tree with no real explanation by Devs. They are still dragon minions but with free will unless they fell to Mordremoth calling them home.

The problem is Rev was shipped highly overtuned in certain areas, as well as with a simple concept low CD with energy cost, now that Rev has been brought more inline they have to change the concept. The easiest and most non class breaking way is to remove Energy costs on weapon skills while adjusting the CDs on the skills. They can keep the upkeep/utility Energy costs those should be fine possibly rebalance the upkeep costs since weapons will no longer dip into the energy pool.
But this is what happens when a game ships a blatantly overtuned class to try a generate sales, they have to brought inline at some point.
That argument can be applied to Raiding and Fractals as well…. since you can purchase Ascended there as well while having fun..
I don’t have fun at Fractals and I do hate PvE raids; I did them to some extent due being polite with other members in the clan, but talking mainly as a WvW/PvP player I couldn’t care less about those both. Ascended gear at a predictable pace (instead of random drops) in PvP seems like a big step forward to me; hopefully they add something similar in WvW also.
I was just stating that overall people can acquire Ascended with minimal Cost/effort in multiple game modes that people find fun. And I hope they find away to introduce Ascended to WvW through a Vendor

Except, as has been pointed out, you don’t need a lot of gold to get transmutation charges. The drop automatically from doing various other activities, without the need to spend any gold.
What other fun ways are their to get TC’s for someone that only plays PVE? “Fun” being the key word.
Map Exploration I hear tons of people have fun and love the adventurer/scenery. Almost anything in PvE generates gold so you don’t even have to farm it if your main goal is to buy TC while you just play the game and have Fun. And so on
Honestly 5/6 pieces of Ascended for virtually no real investment is absolutely still fine. Yea, it’s unfortunate that you can’t finish the set for completion sake, but you can lose 300 games and win zero and still get the full set for no material investment, no gold investment, etc. My first set of Ascended gear cost me nearly 500g. This is free.

With a 50% winrate it takes about 86 matches (28 hours) to get the 1200 shards.

Only 28 hours for 5/6 of ascended armor? Seems pretty low if you count in the fact that you get so much raw gold, dyes and materials while doing it. I’ve spent way way more time on my first ascended armor.
28 hours spent in fractals doing dailies, or farming mats, might be able to make 500g. Granted, it is lower/easier than other ways to me. (bloody fractals keep giving me shoulders!) However, I think you could get close with the same time elsewhere.

I can get ~9 gol coins in 30 minutes just farming and selling wood logs, an can repeat this every hour, but the point is: farming (put here your activity) for hours IS NOT FUN; if you play PvP the main reason should be having fun. PvP lets you to have some fun and save a TON of gold (each piece is ~130+ gold coins currently if you want to craft it) giving you the EXTRA reward of tokens to buy ascended armor/weapons at no cost.
As an owner of 4 ascended armor (3 heavy, 1 light) and 5 legendary items I’m grateful for the chance that PvP gives me to get a new ascended set doing nothing but having fun/ragequitting. This just multiplies the rewards of playing PvP x25 in terms of gold and time saving.
That argument can be applied to Raiding and Fractals as well…. since you can purchase Ascended there as well while having fun..
You have to remember everyone did not start with the same Mmr as each other. They soft reset Mmr using this formula.
(Previous Mmr+1200)*.5
Then factor in the wins and losses against what Mmrs the opposing players had and boom you have the reason for the disparity. There isn’t a problem with it besides how heavily the placement games weigh on your overall mmr
So going into the placement matches it doesn’t matter how many wins you are or what division you were the last four seasons since Divisions S1-S4 =/= Mmr they were completely separate.

You are right this shouldn’t happen, they should remove Solo Queue and make it Duo/Trio Queue then every team will have the same amount of grouped up players boom problem solved, Solo Queues will no longer be queued against grouped up players and the whining will stop win win.

Same thing, really. Just different method. The end result is still corruption. The method of corruption is the only change.
We know a lot about how different dragons corrupt, Primordius does not corrupt, his minions are simply created, to my understanding, Zhaitan raises the dead. Kralkatorrik’s breath brands his minions, and Jormags minions generally seem to accept his influence as he more or less seeks to corrupt the thoughts and minds of his minions, with promises of power. It’s said the DSD generates it’s minions from water, much like Primordius does from lava possibly, and Mordremoth isn’t clear yet.
- Primordus does corrupt – though he usually doesn’t corrupt living beings but instead lava and land; it has been stated in an interview by Jeff Grubb, Scott McGough, and Ree Soesbee that Primordus is very much capable of corrupting living beings.
- Zhaitan is also seen corrupting the living (both plant and animal) as well as the land. Corrupting the dead is simply Zhaitan’s preference – like corrupting land and lava is Primordus’.
- It’s more than just Kralkatorrik’s breath – that’s how he made his first batch of modern minions and how he made the Dragonbrand, but in Iron Marches we can see crystals imprisoning Sentinels, and corrupting them.
- While it is Jormag’s preferred method to convince minions to join him willingly before corruption, both icebrood and Sons of Svanri have been seen corrupting in other means (though primarily Sons of Svanir).
Point being: While it is true that each Elder Dragon has an apparent preference for corruption, they are all capable of equal corruption.
Some of Mordremoths minions do appear to be corrupted Wildlife, but he doesn’t seem to corrupt, what we know of, the more important and intelligent species.

This is only in regards to the Sylvari issue, it has been stated in game and by Anet that Sylvari are Mordremoth’s Minions.

There is hardly any reason to debate the validity of Sylvari being dragon minions, the only question would be how powerful is the Pale Tree and it was able to hold back Mordremoth’s influence for so long on itself and the Sylvari.

I have been testing various damage modifier traits at the raid test golem, and I keep getting surprising results. I’ll just post the results of one trait I tested, ele’s air grandmaster trait, ‘bolt to the heart’. I gave my ele 25 might, fury, quickness, 3 grace of the land stacks, spotter, frost spirit, empower allies, banner of strength, banner of discipline, and alacrity. I was wearing full ascended gear, no infusions, and scholar runes, with my weapons being dagger+warhorn. In order to keep the tests consistent I moved my ele to the golem, pressed 1, and then took my hands off the keyboard and did not touch anything.
health: 100%-80%
dps: 12.4khealth: 80%-60%
dps: 12.4khealth: 60%-40%
dps: 12.7khealth: 40%-20%
dps: 13.2khealth: 20%-0%
dps 13.3kNow, bolt to the heart is suppose to be a 20% modifier below 50% enemy health. Clearly we can see the trait turning on. But if we take the dps for 80%-60%, I thought we could predict the 20%-0% dps like this:
12.4k * 1.2 = 14.88k
So, what gives? Do modifier traits not work multiplicative, but rather additively? As in, is my bolt to the heart modifier added to my scholar rune modifier (and all the others) and then used as one single modifier?
It doesn’t modify your overall total dps it modifies each actual Hit. And they are all multiplicative.
Plain simple math that anyone can understand.
Look at your average enemy warrior with percentage bars on and you will see that health regen minimum 5% every second. A warrior have a minimum of 19200 hp, but most will have marauder or similar. So the Warrior regen 1000+ health a second. Thats the eqvivalent of any other class popping their active heal on a 4-6s cooldown. While doing almost as much damage as possible. Other classes can come close to that kind of healing yes but they have to sacrifice alot in terms of offensive power.
And thats why the warrior has been OP since release. You notice this now? No one cares anymore. Anet dont care and we dont care. Lets nerf the other classes some more. Oh and buff guardians. They need it.
Its 1000 hp/s MAX not Minimum and they do actually have to land their burst to proc it. With all the blinds and blocks out there its not quite as easy as you think, Its easy in a team fight but try that in a 1v1 vs a DH or a thief with constant blinds/blocks and your F1 burst can miss quite often. And you say War has been OP since release. Did you even play Season 1 or Season 2 where having a war on your team was a guaranteed loss?
Blinds don’t do too much to Warrior due to their stupid amount of Resistance they can apply, which 100% nullifies Blind just throwing that tidbit out there.

@Evan Lesh – I’m a bit confused as to how the game determines your initial MMR. I know that you play 10 placement games to find it, but does the game calculate your MMR from the first game or does it just use the default MMR for all 10 games before catapulting you higher or lower in terms of MMR depending on how you did?

Seriously Evan if you guys plan anything ask yourselves this question: Would the current system upset anyone in it’s current form? and why? If you have your own reservations about your own system, you could even mention what they are and goal/intentions, when you expose yourself like this you’ll probably find that people will be more lenient/understanding and willing to provide positive feedback. I’d hate having to read negative things about something I worked hard on, I bet you do too.
That said, here is what I think:
Even if you have 0.5% of the people placed in top division @ startup it’s wrong if most people feel they don’t deserve to be where they belong because of some normal distribution. And while being able to see your placement vs leaderboard and friends, if you played lots with them and you know where your true skill level should be at (guesstimate) you’re more enclined to feel cheated by having a rating that is not conform with your self image.
Startup should not be a normal, and everything earned, no freebies. Narrow to 1 standard deviation at most and have it so that within that range mmr may fluctuate rapidly enough that it might reach a decent point.
But you still have the issue of not adressing individual skill and starting by putting together 10 random people and hoping that something significant will come out of this. That’s just not gonna happen. To have anything at least remotely significant you’re looking @ min of 13 matches with a decent population where you can identify/classify people @ the start and you don’t even have that when you start everyone @ about a same skill rating. So how can you hope to be fairly representative at all knowing this?
My answer is what I’m trying to get people to explore in my thread about Economy of Worth in PvP, aka determining a single player’s worth in every match through measuring positive behaviours and negative ones to establish a more accurate baseline, since then you’ll not be comparing teams formed up of random people but comparing actual people to people.
I’m not trying to diss anything just stating reasons why upset people are speaking up. Love that you guys wanted to make a change, I think that’s in the right track, this just might not yet be the right track, either you can tweak it to something that actualy works or you might need to consider other options.
Lets keep an open mind.
Could you shed more light on the innerworkings of match placement? Did you use previous pvp data to do trial runs vs various other team setups to validate/invalidate placement?

- Game 4: 1600 mmr team, if win add +200, if loss -100
- Game 5: 1800 mmr team, if win add +200, if loss -100

and so on, narrowing and testing limit again until you have a clearer placement with no default assignement…Could you elaborate? ty.
You realize that you have been with and against players close to your Mmr since they told us how they did the Soft reset, (Previous Mmr+1200)*.5
The reason I see that they soft reset is probably due to the horrible abuse of the previous system.
Why should players be favored for not playing in a game that runs 24/7 because they are on Christmas break? This is no different from any other game with a competitive leaderboard
It is very easy to get Ascended in PvE raids are extremely easy to get a full Ascended in a short time, fractals extremely easy you can buy with gold the main currency needed to purchase them, PvP is capped at how many pieces you can get and have a huge time gate to get a full set. So there is that, PvP players don’t solely PvP and this gives them an avenue to be geared in PvE/WvW now they just need to give WvW an ascended vendor

So that the esl players would have less of a chance to match up against people who bought the game last month. It would have been much more chaotic with that approach.
Yes. We’ve done a full reset before and it was awful. Keeping everyone’s relative position means matchmaking isn’t completely random at the start of the season.
Many players have their mmr super high because played in a team and considering this value for a solo/duo queue is not a good idea imho

If MMR really would sort everything out over time why wouldn’t the hard reset work.
And, I really would like to see the numbers on how many wins in a row (or wins in general) it would take for someone to move from the middle of Bronze to silver considering after about 40 matches your plus and minus ratio are to the point where you get just about +15 -15 on your win and loss.
I really would like to understand how that would work. For those who would say “Get Good” I challenge you to bring your best to matchmaking in Bronze and let me know how many games you can win in a row down there. Considering that as soon as I start a streak of wins my numbers start shrinking and DONT seem to climb even after losses. . .either I’m the worst player in the game (possible maybe?) or something isn’t right.

They blocked me even before I joined their squad. If they give no explanation then I am sorry but I have to classify it as discrimination. I can call it racism if I want, you can’t say otherwise cos no one has any proof to the contrary. Again every class has survivability cheese it’s just a different flavor, i.e. Passives that reward bad players for getting Cc’ed /bursts down, or classes with low Cd defenses that burst then cycle through their blocks/invulnerable/evades/Heals till their burst is back up, i.e. Warrior, DH, Chrono, Engie,Ele and so on, Thief to a lesser extent since no real CDs and they have to disengage and reset it’s how the class was designed Devs have stated as such.
And let’s reiterate once again if someone disengages you are both out of combat what don’t you understand about that? If they OOC to heal up guess what you are OOC and heal up as well…. it’s not rocket science.
If the remove the disengage potential of classes then they better remove all the invulns and passive defenses all classes have because those don’t promote skill at all.

Its silly to see classes “run” endlessly because there skills that are made for attking are being used to get away for free and where updated to not get effected by roots chill etc.. I think there needs to be a real counter to all of this.
Dodge spame as moment and perma stealth needs there own set of counters. As for high def skill they need to be much fewer and more dmg type aimed so a physical def should make you weaker to condtions dmg (non boon effect because you cant chose to not have other ppl put boons on you). Or a full invariability means you cant do any thing at all but be invaluable.Dodge spam and permastealth do have counters i.e. Wards and Reveals…. and again if thy are running they aren’t damaging you, if they OOC you then you are OOC, you just want to make it so people are forced to fight and not be able to disengage…. also else has quite a few things to use to disengage, between RTL, Superspeed, Lightning Flash, Mist Form, Blazing Retreat and so on on top having Invulnerability it all depends on how you setup your build..
Some classes rely on being able to disengage while others rely on passives, invulns and other defenses to be able to survive/win fights each class has different styles of play, if you limit/remove certain classes disengage potential then you have to remove all the other classes survivability mechanics it’s pretty simple, now some classes like Warrion and Druid don’t need the disengages since they have very powerful Passive and active sustain and could use a shave in those areas or will have to give up a bit of their passive sustain/active sustain if they want to keep the disengage potential.
And last but not least being able to use skills in a versatile way is great game design and promotes strategic/skillful thinking.
The counter to spame dodge and even stealth is on such a long cd and such a short duration its not a real tool to deal with ppl doing this. You need to have build in punishment system to tools like these if classes can use them so often OR you put the lines / reivles on such low cd / long duration that they out right mess up balancing.
By making dodges that evade nothing take longer for your endures to recharges you make dodging a skill tool not just a pure spam tool. By making stealth have a long turn weakness of taking more dmg the longer you stay in it a real risk reward of do i try to avoid them with stealth at the cost of if they do get me i am dead or do you use stealth as a short evasion to land the big hit and not deal with the build in def weakening.
If they did that then they have to increase all the Blocks/Invulns CDS since a pure defensive rotation can negate damage just as effectively and classes with those defenses have better sustain in the form of healing, while all Thief has is effectively Dodges since stealth doesn’t negate damage… and by the time their defensive rotation is done it is almost off of CD again.
Let’s go off of your suggestion the longer someone camps stealth the more damage they take, ok if they do that than the longer someone negates damage the more they take the longer they negate damag once the damage negation ends , see how idiotic that sounds?
The games balance is screwed no matter what all classes need their defenses and damage toned down and reworked from the ground up.
They did make it so you can only buy partial Ascended sets per season, so they can’t even farm massive amounts of Ascended they only get 1200 Currency per season, while the full set of armor is 1300 not to include weapons and trinkets.
They should have implemented a vendor for WvW as well hopefully they are trying to do that but it may take longer to balance out the acquisition rate.
You can get infinite ascended shards of glory. The last reward box is repeatable (Byzantium – Repeatable) and has 250 Ascended shards of glory in it.

It would be great if I could be earn my Ascended Armor through PVP – is it possible to actually do this in a single season?
I worked out, that I can reach a max of 950 Shards of Glory by being a try-hard which is pretty fab getting all the chests at least once.
I calculate all the armor pieces required are:
Head – 175, Shoulder – 150, Arm – 150, Breast – 400, Legs – 170, Feet – 150 : Total = 1095.Is there any way of getting the missing 144 Ascended Shards of Glory or will I have to wait another season to get a complete set?

No, you only get 1200 shards a season full armor set alone is 1300 shards, you only get 1200 in a season.
weapons are 500 /1000 respectively for 1 or 2 sets, Trinkets are 875 for a whole set.
Your leg piece is wrong they are 275 not 170.

If you lose to players that have worse Mmr than you then you will have greater loss of points if you win against better ranked players than you, you will get more points, you get less if they were worse than you. Very simple read up on the Mmr system so you understand this better.
It can be frustrating. I, 1 v 2’d two people on far and we actually were all in down state. My teammate ran over and tried to stomp rather than rez me. He got CC’d away and I died. They both got up and killed him before I respawned. We lost the match not too horribly.
Point being, I was a far better player than the opposing team members I directly played against, whom in turn wiped the floor with my team. We lost by a little bit, but to the match making system this is identical to me having been creamed by the other team. Even if I’d been he sole person responsible for my teams loss due to my utterly horrible playing the result would be the same.
Essentially some of my best performance in the evening and my MMR goes down for it. Applying MMR based on team output and expecting it to represent an indviduals skill is flawed because there is only a loose correlation between those things.
The skill adjustment doesn’t take into account how well you actually do indivdiually, or how close you are to winning. As far as I know. It only counts a win a win and assumes you are individually responsible for the outcome.
MMR isn’t concerned with representing individual skill since it’s a team game. It’s more reflective of how well you work with a team. If you typed in /s “res” that’s putting forth more team effort.
By the time he moved past me to stomp, typing res would have resulted in me being dead if he’d changed his mind. My only chance was that his stomp worked. Plus hard to type res when your mashing the stay alive button

Oh I have no issue with this system, I am just pointing out that players won’t be able to purchase full Ascended in a season. They have to pick and choose what is important to them.
I dont get one shotted that often or did i say it happen on my guard. all i said is that thiefs can almost one shot and perma inturrupt someone even after 2 stun breaks for ex. and shatter mesmers well… sometimes u just get a “wtf jist hit me that my 18k health went puff?” While fighting mesmers and u remember seeing a lot of ghosts running towards u after u dodge roll or break out of stun…
If u ever die to a thief as a dh then it means u are playing badly and its ur problem.
thief and mesmer is never op compare to current dh in wvw and it doesnt even req skills to play like mesmer or thief does to be effective

condi mesmer and condi thief(stealth and evade variants) are broken as they can hit with no counter, hel the condi chrono bunker can apply confusion just being around, not even attacking.
There is a thread already about this same topic and we already came to the conclusion there must be more means to deal with stealth in all professions in game, thus the change to the warrior shout which is nice but every class needs utilities like that to fight against the invi spam.
We also became to the conclusion that the needle trap and the other one that apply inmobilised need to reveal the thief to avoid the condi spam while invisible (which is clearly broken in any case)And yes the argument “u noob l2p if u get rekt by a theef while invi” is proven to be a fallacy and completely wrong. Long invisibility is simply broken in this game and needs to be addressed.
The only reason is doesn’t really work in pvp is simply because prevent capture point, otherwise pvp would be a ghost theef fest.

if you team can win with you afk or disconnected for 2+ minutes, you don’t deserve any points because you were being carried anyway. I’m all for harsh punishments for afkers and DC’ers.
You are inferring he is bad because he was DCed? Maybe, if he was playing the entire time, they would have won faster. Perhaps the other team was just that bad. You can’t assume he was carried without knowing how well he plays. Don’t be a kitten.
It doesn’t matter. In 99% cases 4v5 is a loss. The system can’t see whether he is leaver, troll, afker or just dc’d. He took too long to load in, his team had to carry 4v5 match – he does not deserve any points tbh. And 40 min is rather mild punishment. If Anet was to remove it, then people would abuse it a lot (like they did in s1 for example).
You do not get the point. The issue is no existence of punishment but a lack of clear information what to expect. We do not know if we get punished and for how long till the match ends. I would like to know what I risk before I join ranked.
It isn’t a random number they give out though, so you must D/C a lot for it to have accumulated to 40 mins, it is literally how the system works it starts at 3 and increases each time after that every time you D/C for 2mins+, go read up on the dishonor system, it doesn’t hand out arbitrary numbers. You know the risks they have been known for a year, it also seems like you D/C a lot so you should know you probably have a high chance of getting dishonor due to your connection.
The dishonor timer goes down if you don’t D/C within a certain time period.

its still a very ez method to getting ascended gear and is repeatable…..and once you get a set youll more then likely build up shards like mad…..dont get greedy pvp rewards are finally good lol live with it!

hmm i see but getting 20 gold is repeatable and for that kinda gold you can buy ascended gear the old way…. i dont even pve that much or do anything that really makes money and i find ascended armor super ez to get…there is so many ways to get it now and you can stat change drops or old armor i mean come on…
Boohoo you can make more gold a lot easier in PvE running AB and Silverwastes so that argument is very invalid. Quit being greedy. Like really it sounds like you are upset that they are giving decent rewards for players actually putting in time. The amount of time to keep repeating that Reward chests that 20g is not that much compared to how fast PvE can farm gold.

It is early, for me and no coffee yet, it sounded like you were complaining that the 20g each repeat was excessive.
The in match stats don’t affect your skill rating, its affected by the quality of players you won or lost against. If you lose to a team that has a lower Mmr than your team then you lose more points because you should have won, if you win it’s less skill rating increase because your Mmr was better than theirs, and this works in the reverse if you go against better Mmr players when you lose you don’t lose that much if you win your skill rating increase is bigger.
Now the closer the Mmrs are on win or lose makes the amount won or lost almost negligible since you are supposedly equivalent skill and the match is a toss up.
