Increasing the effectiveness of Restorative Illusions seems like a mistake to me considering how Mesmers are quite effective as it stands. I do hope there’s more to the Engie changes, I’m looking forward to reading the tuesday patch notes.

It’s a nerf if they don’t take healing power.

Thief
Thief has two very strong options between the dagger/pistol and staff builds. We’re putting in two small changes in this release that might open up additional options for pistol main-hand and sword builds. Sword already does top-tier damage between its auto-attack chain and various 3 skills – the changes to Infiltrator’s Strike should help make that damage land more consistently. The change to Shadow Strike should hopefully give a bit more punch to some off-meta condition builds.

Infiltrator’s Strike: The range of this ability has been increased from 600 to 900 in PvP only. Immobilize duration has been increased from 1 to 1.5 seconds in PvP only.

Shadow Strike: Increased the amount of Torment applied by this ability from 2 to 4 stacks in PvP only.

By “we were all warned” you mean Players currently engaged in WvW.

No, everyone was warned. All sections of the patch notes are available to everyone it’s not like the warning came in a mail to only people in WvW. If you skip parts of patch notes, that’s on you.

Think whatever you’d like. They were MASSIVE patch notes with a Legendary section but the information was not included there. When WvW comes out of beta, is not saying when it will occur, it’s just “some future date”. When it would occur was NOT in any patch notes.

All I’m saying is these threads will continue to appear. Might be a good idea to take another look at what actually happened.

Yeah they gave the information saying that they will remove the vendor when Wvw reward tracks are out of beta, we also know maningful patches are done quarterly so after 3 months when they removed it aligned with their quarterly patch…. so there is that. The warning was given in the main game mode section that it impacts which is removing a wvw only vendor from wvw. There are the facts.

No, it really wont. This has been the argument for every subscription game since WoW. CU with subscriptions is dead on arrival. I expect it to last maybe 6 months before imploding due to low population. I just looked up gameplay footage on youtube, yep, still nothing substantial (also, still womit inducing animations).

The two ton heavy thing you mentioned still has over 5 million active subscribers and peaked over 12. Still going strong and latest content many are happy with including those who enjoy open world pvp. If it is good people will pay. Look at how much people are paying for water or a cup of coffee. And starbucks is talking about a 10 dollar coffee…go figure.

Not saying you or anyone don’t have a valid point but it will work if the game is any good. We will just have to wait and see. Our issue here is zero competition in this format of play and a publishers perceived lack of interested to invest.

Wow is free to play now as well if you want it to be so yeah that’s a thing…..

There have always been skills that perform more for PvE or PvP respectively this is on all classes not just Revenant, your gripes with OH sword sounds like you don’t understand the importance of Cc style skills, and so on being able to combo with the weapons and skills it one of the better designs of Rev, allowing you to utilize them in different ways for more depth to gameplay

Oh I know the utility of CC skills, especially in PvE. Been doing that with mace/shield and headbutt on my warrior. It’s not rocket science but Grasping Shadows is just pointless in PvE most of the time, since you either move a mob that is already focused by the team or the pull doesn’t work (mob is immune) and your character still shadowstep backwards : meaning a DPS loss. This has always been an issue when people started to play Revenant in PvE.

Your unrelenting assault issue seems to ignore the fact that it provides great protection on top of decent damage as well as buffing you all at the same time, it can stick to any opponent once it lands through Mesmer portals/shadowsteps you name it. It is a highly versatile skill. They do need to fix how it interacts with environmental items mainly in wvw and pvp it plus Precision strike seem to prioritize environment items like boxes and supply depots and Sentry posts over players…

Yes they should reevaluate the Skills in PvE but they aren’t broken or underpowered they are there as an option.

UA is just not good, by the time you do one, you get some auto-attacks done and more damage easily, it’s even more clear with boons. The might buff has always been decent, but in a PvE setting, if you have a PS warrior with you it’s not useful. I think you see it more as a PvP skill : a game mode that made UA what it is now. Skills shouldn’t be used only for one aspect of the game, it should be used in both PvP and PvE, hence why they need to separate the changes they do, because they will create more unbalance that way.
I don’t know much about GW2 PvP, since I find PvP in MMOs always lacking. But in PvE you do the legends rotation and with the weapon skills it’s just auto-attack and precision strike if the target is solo. Not sure if you had the chance to play Revenant at the beginning, but it used to be so much more dynamic before, even after the first nerfs to Unrelenting Assault. What bothers me is that they nerfed it into oblivion.
When auto-attack is more useful than all the other skills in terms of damage, I believe there’s a problem and it’s the first MMO where I see that an auto-attack is 90% of the time better. It simply doesn’t feel right or rewarding.

Let’s look at Rev in a pure PvE stand point it is brought mainly for its Group support/Utility and not its DPS, this is what happens to classes with so much in their kit. It does decent dps but that’s not why it is brought to group content, the boons and boon duration are the reasons DPS takes a back seat, Look at Mesmer same thing it has abysmal sustained dps but is highly sought after for its support role. And again the reason AA is used more is because it does not drain the Revs resource pool as well look at sword AA it applies Vulnerability which is why it provides more dps now combine that with UA and others buffs it gets its Dps boost to the whole kit.

One of the only ways to allow for all Rev weapon skills to allow for better Dps/ being more viable for rotations is to remove the Energy costs from the Weapons since both the Utilities and weapons share a resource pool you have to decide what provides the best in cost effectiveness and having to juggle between each legend to be able to use Utilities as well asWeapon skills.

It just sounds like you want the weapon but don’t like the implementation since it doesn’t conform to your views on what a sword should be.

Checked on gw2efficiency and even this is what shows up for spark (without using own mats) :

- 574g —> buy everything through demands even daily gated mats.
- 451 --> same except you use your own gated mats (mithrillium, elonian leather, etc).

This is with buying everything, you should have some mats laying around that can bring the cost to less than 400g easily.

Of course the price will be close to pre if you decide to straigth up buy your mats from the tp instead of filling buy orders.

This is totally wrong. You are basically forced to buy Deldrimor Steel Ingots. 85 of them costs 522. Don’t tell me you will craft them. It will take you 85 days to do so. And then again 10 Elonian is 106 gold. I checked prices in game. I don’t know where you got your prices from.

EDIT: I checked on gw2efficiency and the price there is without Deldrimore steel ingots. Therefore its 451 gold + 10 elonian + 85 deldrimore. You do the math….

Most people craft the Time gated mats daily and save them so it’s not really a gate it’s sucks if you don’t do that to begin with, plus you can have friends not using their Time gates and have them help you craft them, that’s how I was able to craft 2 full ascended sets in less than a week without buying a single deldrimor/Elonian/Damask on the market.

You can earn legendaries in pvp, it is called tournament of legends. Or you just buy them on the trading post.

That is the worst excuse ever, especially with the ToL not happening consistently and it doesnt offer an over time approach to acquiring a legendary, or any of the newer legendaries. Why should PvE have the exclusive monopoly on acquiring legendaries whenever you want?

What’s funny is they merged mob density already, and squishy classes can easily navigate without aggroing or killing all mobs easily, I main a thief and both of them I was able to clear everything easily and most champ hero points solo. It all comes down to the builds you choose.

Depending on thief build its quite easy, either Condi D/D with SB running Acro/Tr/DrD or Acro/Da/Tr. or running. Power Staff using Acro/Tri/DrD and so on or you can run D/P for stealthing through everything.

One green circle won’t screw you if you can recover properly, or if you anticipate it will be missed, if you get downs it will lower your dps depending on how long it takes to get them back up, also the teleports do hurt quiet a bit, once your guild gets the mechanics down better you should be fine, and if you are still failing then look at your dps rotations and so on.

The issue is that the character who achieves or purchases the precursor it is soulbound to that character. This isn’t about the wardrobe this is about switching the item to a character type that can use that item but it was purchased with a different character that could not use it. I simple want to move the precursor from one char to another and because its soulbound I can’t do it. Also to chance the look it may look good but you still need the original precursor to forge the legendary.

Clearly you don’t understand how the mechanics work with Soulboumd and account bound.

The Original Precursors are Soulbound on use so if you buy one it is bound to the character only if you equip it. And all HoT precursors are Account Bound on Acquire. And nothing stops you from making the legendary on the character you bound them to and then swapping them over since all other items used in crafting a legendary are account bound, sometimes I see your posts and think you just look for things to complain about.

Well I’m just speculating. I would imagine D/P SB is the best, and D/P staff is most likely second in terms of power builds. I just ask because with S/P you got the infiltrators and the invuln from pistol whip. To each there own I guess. What happened to S/D and why isn’t is strong anymore? what exactly got nerfed about it?

S/P is just too clunky (huge pre and after casts on PW) and doesn’t have the mobility needed to compete with D/P and SB or Staff. It just lacks overall.

The repeated initiative cost increases, the conditions needing to be met on sword three, the destruction of Acrobatics traitline, alongside the power creep on other classes/weapon sets are why S/D is no longer viable in sPvP.

Not even close, it’s more akin to Stomps under stability/invuln, since it downs t allow you to stomo faster and it does absolutely nothing for rezzing.

Oops sorry, was a bit too vague with what I really wanted to say. At some point the devs recognized that rezzing faster with celerity wasn’t healthy for the game and I believe that being able to do this “I am able to a secure a stomp while proccing the animations away from the target” is also a bit too good for the health of the game. Am I wrong for thinking that if you proc it away then other players have no way to interrupt the rez?

The Rez can still be interrupted it comes to player timing (i.e. Guardian Downed two skill, Rev, war engie and Necro all just have to wait and time their cc affect and it will hit them on the return) so no it’s not the same. While Invuln and stab make it a lot harder to where you can’t in most cases interrupt it. See the difference? Teleport stomps can be countered by the downed player, stab and invuln stomps can’t yet stab and invuln stomps are more prevalent.

I agree with Macon, I am a PVE player. Am trying to make Bolt and now am being punished and condemned to WvW in order to finish it. Every time I get into WvW either there are no CMDR tags or the ones I group up with seem to think being out numbered 3 to 1 are good odds. Last weekend I spent several hours and managed to get about 1k exp towards the 20k needed. at this rate it’ll take several months worth of weekends to get it. Please, please, PLEASE go back to beeing able to buy it with the commendation things. I don’t like WvW, what did I do to deserve this punishment? : )

What if I told you you don’t have to follow a Commander Tag to get your GoB and you can do it in 4-8 hrs doing very simple things like flipping camps/sentries escorting yaks and so on….. it’s not that difficult and you can afk for ten minutes at a time!!! And to your last comment, a lot of people don’t like PvE /Map Completion but have to deal with 16+ hrs and can’t afk through it, so get over it the Devs have made their decision.

Pros:

  • no rotation, so noob friendly
  • good fury, swiftness and protection uptime
  • there are no bad weapons, because there is nothing to compare
  • great for gathering, JP and doing your daily stuff because of the perma fury and swiftness
  • not the worst DPS, yet…
  • can sometimes ignore instakill mechanics with glints heal
  • bugs can make you laugh, sometimes

Cons:

  • no rotation, so extremely bland
  • no variety in weapons
  • no variety in traits/utilities
  • no racial utilities (seriously anet, why?!)
  • no build variety
  • jack of all trades, and sucking at all of them
  • barely any condi removal
  • still an unfinished class
  • gets nerfed every patch
  • no facet of quickness
  • not allowed in raids, except MAYBE escort
  • bugs still present since day 1 (just make sword 3 remove confusion and you fixed 1 bug already. it’s not that hard)

And still, I always find myself playing my rev in PvE. I once made the rev my main and altough I want to switch back to guard, I can’t. Probably lack of perma swiftness/fury. I don’t WvW or PvP with my rev, but looking at other threads should give you a general idea what the rev lacks.

A Facet for Quickness would be stupid broken….. the Shiro skill is good just needs to have the upkeep lowered.

You don’t even have to do the tutorial, there is a way to get out of it and start your adventure in real Tyria at lvl 1!

Wasn’t that fixed a while ago (if you are talking about PvP/WvW warps)? Maybe guildhall… Didn’t test it yet.

I am not sure if they fixed the guildhall one I used it after they got rid of pop one this was right after they allowed us to queue anywhere again.

How difficult would it be to try to get a character through from level 1 to level 80 without the use of any tomes as well as avoiding combat entirely? No weapons equipped, and only utility skills which do no damage could be used. Perhaps you’d have to limit a character to using a specific set of gear like the Iron Man Challenge to keep the difficulty up. Using a tanky guard build with full exotics, for example, would basically nullify any real reason to run from combat when you could practically wade through most mobs.

The question is: are you able to complete the tuturial instance without any combat? Do you wait for someone to come arround and finish the boss for you or does it die if you wait long enough?

You don’t even have to do the tutorial, there is a way to get out of it and start your adventure in real Tyria at lvl 1!

On the Fractal Weapons as described by their name have those particles, the Mistwild is not one of them and should not be considered one of them.

In regards to Eir’s bow it is a gemstone item not a Legendary the Aura itself is fine it doesn’t need special Projectile effects.

The thing is, as far as we can tell, Mordremoth never corrupted Sylvari that we see, he merely spoke into their minds and tried to influence their actions. We believe this because Dragon minions cannot escape the will of their master, but we see one Mordrem Guard that reverts after being far enough away that he cannot hear the call anymore. I personally believe that Sylvari incorruptability comes from some other currently unknown source, likely whatever freed a the Pale Tree from Mordremoth’s grasp.

Sylvari are not Corrupted and cannot be corrupted, they are Dragon Minions as stated in game and by Devs, they were created as Dragon Minions so there is nothing to corrupt. As stated in This Link

My 2 cents on the subject is that it should be a reference but not the only reference. If it was the only reference then turret engis would have been buffed during their prime due to no use in ESL. It is definitely trickey to balance how much of balance is based off of high tier vs low and mid tier play. Ideally you don’t want specs where an average player can reroll, practice for an hour or 2, and perform generally better than they could on a long term main. That is what I would try to aim for with mid tier balance.

But going off your sentiment, if they actually had the ESL and Actual live game modes conform to the same Rules they would be able to balance around ESL level game play, since it makes no sense to balance around the lowest common denominator, but with how the ESL plays by different rules currently it makes no sense to balance around them since they are essentially in a vacuum.

If they equalized the rules they would be able to better balance the game mode, the easiest way to do this is to have the Normal sPvP have the 1 class rule implemented, yes this will make people upset but it would make their balancing decisions easier, yes it will increase Queue Times but hey you can do other stuff while waiting on a queue besides sit around in HoTM.

A Plea for a Raid Story Mode

This is an important topic, and it’s important to try to cut through a lot of the misunderstandings and confusion about what a story mode would necessarily mean.

1) It would NOT mean taking away the challenging content.

2) It would NOT mean taking away the notoriety or honor involved with completing the “hard mode” raids, or even in one sense the exclusivity of the story itself. I am a veteran of another AAA MMO which always released the raids in three stages: first a standard mode, then later on a story mode and a nightmare mode.

The standard mode took some skill to complete, so only regular raiders could complete it on release. The story mode came out making it accessible to (mostly) everyone, but when the nightmare came out it was well known that only the best of the best could complete it. In fact, it even created more content and more prestige for this top tier of players, who had to work very hard to beat the nightmare mode.

Nobody was under any illusion that those who beat the story mode had accomplished anything of any real value, much less that they’d done anything comparable to the top tier players.

3) It would NOT necessarily mean earning the raid exclusive rewards. This is, I think, the point that has been most concerning to many. Ultimately, a story mode raid need not offer any of the raid specific rewards. Let it be for the STORY and the story alone.

I really can’t conceive of any reason to reject creating a story mode version of the raids if it’s clear that they are just for the story rather than rewards, prestige, etc.

This is what a lot of us are trying to say.

It isn’t about rewards.

It isn’t about denying or removing challenging content (there needs to be more of that in the game, imo).

It is about offering the experience of raiding and the stories they tell (no matter how minor) to more people.

I respect that the developers originally intended raids to serve one goal and only one goal. I just think that wasn’t the right direction for raids. And there are plenty of people who agree with us on that. I have friends who enjoy playing certain builds/professions, friends who don’t enjoy the minutia of preparing and grinding out raid attempts and friends who may be disabled/older/simply less skilled – all of whom I would really enjoy experiencing this 10-player content with. That is really all I want – to play with all of my friends – not just the small group that is willing to spend the time and attention raids require – all of them. That is what GW2 has always offered the community. I don’t want to see that change.

So, once again and hopefully for the last time – this has NEVER been about removing or hindering challenging content in the game. For me (and many others), it has never been about getting something for little or no effort. It is about wanting to play with friends simply because they are my friends – nothing more.

If we’re just talking about story, then a cinematic would solve these complaints. (Despite that all story elements are in a completed instance). They did the same thing for LS1.

I think you’re mixing your goals here (getting your friends in raids). First, you could just bring them along. Second, this would be a problem for any hard content in the game (like arah/aetherpath). Third, any additional mode does impact raids, because it slows down development of future raids, and requires them to retrofit all the previous ones.

If you could promise that it wouldn’t slow down any raids, no one would care (other than thinking that it would be a failure).

How is that a problem for any other hard instanced content then raids?
You can take 4 hours to kill each boss in arah/aetherpath that you used as examples.

If a cinematic is all they plan on implementing how about they link a youtube video that show all the wings instead less work same result.

I agree that youtube + a completed instance should satisfy anyone who cares that much about the story.

You can also take as long as you want in most raids, assuming you can survive. However, I think theory is pointless here — lupi would stymie an unskilled player just as much as vg would.

Yes but people can solo lupi can you solo any of the raid bosses?

People are getting close they just 3 manned Vg… give it a little time and someone will find a way.

Hmm that is interesting, I was running scrapper runes before I slotted the Vampirism, it didn’t seem to negate much in some instances was still being hit relatively hard, idk if I can get behind the Adventurer tunes I will try them out though since they are essentially free bahahaha. Yeah this is just something I am looking into while I am bored with D/P. The Crusaders is interesting wouldn’t Cav be better? Than crusaders?

No D/P thief in this game is one-shotting anyone playing a reasonably good build without the opponent simply not paying attention, sorry. And any such build that can even come close isn’t to be considered even close to a reasonably good build, either. Anyone can build a profession to take advantage of getting the jump on someone not paying attention, either. My reaper can even deal almost 25k damage in a second. Rest assured, I absolutely know what I am talking about when it comes to the thief’s capacity to deal burst damage.

The Daredevil is poorly-designed because it fills in the gaps of only a few poorly-implemented/designed features of the profession. By far and large, the thief is excellently-designed because everything about it is fair. There is no build capable of doing it all, and the sacrifices made are huge for every build when compared to any given potential area of expertise achievable by the profession’s other builds.

There are some niche-exploit builds which are badly-implemented or exist and are strong for reasons beyond the thief, however the core profession is about as fair as it gets. Daredevil on the other hand is just needless, boring power creep that reduced available build diversity to keep the profession up to speed by letting the profesison abuse its core kit options and giving it some freebies.

The only thing poorly-designed about the thief is the ICD on stealth attacks. That’s it. The rest is entirely at the fault of other professions getting too much or not enough while lacking meaningful build options when dealing with either those blatantly superior options or lack thereof.

The thief isn’t overpowered or overly-strong because it’s fair, unlike most of the rest of the professions and builds currently running around in the game.

i didnt say that d/p thief is one-shotting anything, at least not anymore now that everyone has at least marauders or more often than not a mix of toughness/vitality on their gear

you keep mentioning my phrase about one-shotting taking it out of context, thats not nice and i mentioned it as a part of thief design, not the d/p meta if you are able of course to separate those 2 things

and yes thats what was kept in mind when thief was designed: we are not meant to stay in prolonged combat because we are limited by our resource and innately we are squishy without any means to survive in a direct fight so we either kill quickly or get killed quickly with some options to escape or avoid the fight

initiative mechanic was designed to allow thief to quickly release a huge burst of damage before enemies can render a response but that playstyle was nerfed in the first months of GW2 and on top of that it became completely unplayable once people realized they can use other stats than full zerk

however d/p meta is exactly that niche-exploit build you are talking which unsurprisingly became universal because it gives thieves the ability to infinitely apply combat pressure – something what thieves were never meant to do

instead of utilizing the initiative to do damage before HoT it was simply used for stealth-scrubbing and backstab spiking until you exhaust the opponent enough to land a kill, now there is also highly skilled P4 spam that is also unhealthy simply because no matter what decision the opponent takes they are punished for that by interrupt and 3-4k damage to the face

so as you can see, thats how thief design worked out in the end: having a resource instead of cooldowns led to a meta thief build that relies entirely on preventing any sort of response from the opponent, be it stealth-scrubbing or P4 spam

Only problem with this is all classes(bar Reaper) can infinitely pressure since they have defenses that allow them to wait out their CDs and reset the fight as well, and most classes have answers to Thieves, evades are blocked by Wards; Stealth is Countered by AoEs,Channeled Attacks, Reveals; Interrupt Spam is countered by Massive amounts of Stability/Passive Stun breaks/Cc Reflects; Thief Burst damage countered by Passive Invulns/Blocks/Heals.

Thieves aren’t a godly immortal class as you make them out to be, they have big flaws and weaknesses in each build, D/P just has the fewest flaws and has better tools than the other builds.

Balance is kitten everywhere. And I doubt any game will be made perfectly balanced.

Riot and Blizzard both have F2P MOBAs (HotS and LoL)… Now when a new champ comes out, 90% of the time they’re broken AF. Why? Because they’re trying to get you to buy said champ, so you can own for however long before they nerf’em and release a new one.

If you say WoW… Now, I have heard rumors that they’re taking the gear out of the equation because back when I used to play it was gear > class > skill. Now it’s probably having similar issues as GW, and that’s IF they took gear out of the equation.

Overwatch? I play that as well. Anything not meta, you will get kitten on by your own team. They will tilt to the point where it’s a guaranteed a match lose (try playing bastion for a good number of games). Another fine example is Symmtra, which is getting reworked – but from everything I’ve seen, will still be bottom tier.

But one very advantageous thing for ones own ego in all those games are your own teammates – Which you can use as scapegoats for when you loose. Blaming everything on them and avoiding thinking it might be you. This will allow you to last in those games longer, before again realizing, there’s imbalances and potentially lack of your own skill.


And this might be on the extreme of things, but the only true way of creating a balanced game, where each hero/character is balanced with respect to all the others, is to give each character the same moves and reskin/redo the animations for them per character/hero – but then that will be very bland, don’t you think? But this will be perfectly balanced, since each hero will be doing the same X damage per second as every other. You will only be able to create so many moves before you start creating “OP” sequences of said moves, unintentionally.


:D Cheer up, and embrace the imbalance of things. Roll whatever you consider OP, so you could tip the imbalance in your favor.

I think I know how to make a balanced game. Make a game with like 20 different classes right? so there are a bunch of them for everyone… YOU GET A CLASS AND YOU GET ONE AND YOU GET ONE.

And name them differently… Warrior, Thief, Ninja, Pirate, Jesus, God, Trump….anything you want as long as the names indicate clearly how different the classes are.

Now give all those classes the same 1 skill, something like “Hit” or “Bash” or “Kick” and a stick, that’s all.

No armor, no special skills, no trinkets…whoever hits the other one most times wins.

And as you can see this is 100% balanced.
