What we know 90% certain is that engineers are getting hammers (although ANet might wake up one morning and decide to change that, so until we get official word). The guardian is mostly just guess work. As for the ability specifications… well until we get a source it’s still possibly just guess work.

How to (or can I) report quiters and afkers

CureForLiving.5360

So I was playing my guardian (whom I’m sure is cursed because I always get the worse games on him), and we were behind, one of the other players decided to give up and stay in the spawn area, moving only to not get akitten. Was in a match the other day where someone had a similar tactic, they’d stay in the spawn area, until they were called out then they just ran to the middle of the map and did literally nothing but feed the other team.
I’m pretty sure neither of these are particularly competitive, but the report system seem to lack any ability to report them. Are these acceptable? If not what can I do?

Wow, tirade mode. Actually I believe GW2’s intention is to support the arcade player base. Had written a nice post to you but decided to delete it because I didn’t feel like talking to someone like you. At this, I can see the type of player this game will be attracting, and frankly I’m happy to leave you to your dream. :p Have fun dude.

Those smileys… their usage seem paradoxical given the tone of the writing… You know smileys are intended to convey the tone of written words (given that text offers a lot of room for interpretation) while you’re clearly insulting and belittling. I don’t mind that so much, but those smileys are working on my OCD… seriously why smileys? Do you not know how smiley’s work? Are you trying to convey a fake sense of detachment? What are you trying to say with those smileys? Why do you torment me with the smileys?!

kitten NO TO THE SYLVARI-HOLOCAUST >:|

So a Sylvari genocide then?
Honestly I don’t get what everyone’s going on about, this is clearly an example of… if you don’t mind me referencing some TV tropes, Ron the Death Eater (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RonTheDeathEater). Somehow there’s something rather… cathartic?… about painting the goody goody Sylari as evil soulless villians.

I don’t see how an internment camp immediately makes the story grey. If anything, it’d just make me roll my eyes. Why do we need to bring in such specific terrible things that happened irl into a video game story to make it ‘grey’

Because fictional settings allows us to explore topics that would conventionally be seen as dark or taboo in a relatively safe environment (given that the environment is fictional), allow for the exploration of underlying themes and idea and of course potentially offering the opportunity to compelling story telling.

No new weapons? Oh so disappointing
Thanks god a new game called Black desert is near…and when it will be out…I suggest you for gw2 sake to add more things and weapons ^^

A disappointed player

Just dont come back once Black Desert fail like Wildstar, Archeage, ESO etc. While graphic and features looks interesing i fear its going to be another failure – considering the fact alone that theres open world pvp gang, losing exp by getting killed in pvp, soft lv cap means you can continue to lv up (50 cap) to gain advantage in pvp etc and huge grind. After the HoT release, will every update...

CureForLiving.5360

Expecting all Living Story to be contained in Maguuma seems silly to me. Also, expecting Mordremoth won’t be the ‘final boss’ of the expansion content as released seems silly to me too!

Not necessarily ‘silly’ we all kinda thought that Mordy might be the final boss of S2. But I’d say it’s a good bet that HoT will finished the Maguuma + Mordy narrative and if there is to be a S3 it will follow a similar format to S2 in that it will lead into a new expansion. We might get a few new zones out of S3, maybe revisit a few old zones (similar to Tower of Nightmare, or Marionette) see them updates and a few plot threads resolved that lead us to the next expansion.
On an unrelated noted, I’d love to go to the Blood Legion homelands next. Although I guess everyone else wants to go to Cantha. There were a few hints at he start of S2 that the Pack was planning on going for Primo.

It really depends on how they gate the content. Just looking at how they handle the Digital Deluxe Edition, the gem store, and Season 2, I think it might look something like this:

Mastery system: free for all. The caveat here is that masteries are map-specific, Colin explained gliding would break the old maps, so they’re making different masteries for those instead. If you don’t have HoT, you’ll still be able to get masteries for the old maps, but you won’t for HoT content (which you wouldn’t be able to access normally anyway). The basis of this thought is that it simplifies the process of introducing masteries for subsequent expansions and/or updates.

Specialization system: free for all. The caveat being it’s the system that’s free for all, not the first series of specializations; subsequent expansions and updates (which may have free periods like Season 2 chapters did) will introduce more specializations. Reasoning is the same with the mastery system, easier to just enable the system for everyone and gate individual add-ons to it.

HoT Specializations: included in HoT package, gem store purchase otherwise. No idea if this would be selling specializations individually or as a “Wave 1” package.

New Revenant class: HoT exclusive. Like the Mistfire Wolf elite skill it’ll be the thing that will always tempt you to get the expansion, even if it’s not necessary.

New maps (PvE, PvP, WvW): included in HoT package, gem store purchase otherwise. This would give people the option to get to the new maps without paying the full expansion price, but at the expense of not having automatic access to the HoT specializations and Revenant class. It will let you access any LW updates there though.

Guild halls: dependent on access to new maps? The guild halls apparently will be in the new areas, so maybe you can only access them if you can access the new maps.

I’m not sure how much they’d actually throw into the gemstore or bundle with HoT. If we take the Ranger specialisation Druid it sounds like something you’d only be able to unlock of you had access to Maguuma Jungle (because thats where the Druids were running around in GW1). So if specialisation are related to so sort of a quest or series of events then you wouldn’t be able to easily put it on the gemstore or make freely available.
As for WvW that’s seems like the sort of thing you’d want everyone to be able to access (you wouldn’t like to segment the WvW playerbase). The same goes for Guild Halls, it’s a pretty nice feature for the game overall, so saying “no you need HoT to join your guildies” would probably be a bit of a turn off.

Question: regarding updates until HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Not the first time this is come up (although not the hundredth either oddly enough, would imagine this would be more of a thing).
The answer is no. Season 2 ended, we’ll not be seeing any new updates (if we’re lucky we might see old content though) until HoT drops.

This is the thing about expansions, where living story releases content fairly regularly an expansion releases content in bulk at once (and hopefully a larger overall amount of content). However looking at other games that follow the expansion model (I’m thinking WoW who usually has months long content droughts, having gone for almost a year between Cata and Mists if I remember correctly) the period before the expansion is usually a wasteland with little to no new content. Mostly because the developers are developing the expansion. So it’s all hands on deck for HoT leaving little resources for things such as LW.

We could discuss how a combination of LW and Expansion model could help resolve these sorts of issues (that is drop expansion release LW with a skeleton crew to keep players busy until next expansion is finished by the main crew) but at present we’re looking at a good couple of months (hopefully no more than 6 or so) without new content.
So I guess we can all work on those legendaries? Maybe we’ll get a SAB? Who knows. ANet has been very quiet about it.

er.. dvd r/rw drives are like $10… when you wanna drop 1500+ on a rig you might as well get one cuz its chump change and runs whatever your local old farts will wanna run

Looking at Dawdler’s post and the usage of “who uses … anymore”, “that’s so like last decade” I do believe his reason for telling OP to not get a dvd is because it’s no longer “cool” or “fashionable” or whatever those “PC master race”-people call it these days. Practicality be kittened.

I can imagine especially the Norn might be against locking up their allies, given how they believe in the strenght of the individual – rather than an abidence to a collective line of thought.

But it seems that the Charr, who believe in groups and collective strength (i.e. the strength of the Legions) but take the ‘a chain is only as strong as its weakest link’ mentality regarding the Sylvari and see the possibility of the well placed individual Sylvari being able to threaten the collective whole.
Humans society however doesn’t seem as single minded as Norn of Charr. There seems to be clear ideological differences between the politicians, the soldiers and the civilians. I can see more of a splintering in Divinity’s Reach. Asura I’m not so sure of, they’ll probably lean to the side of caution.

So was this a part of the agreement when buying gw2 or this just a community member talking nonsense?

Jip community member talking nonsense. Like always.
Well I guess not exactly. Before release ANet didn’t say anything about about expansions, living story or free story content. So at launch this wasn’t the case. There was no agreement in that regard back then.
The debatable part comes in after launch, although I don’t remember Anet ever explicitly stating they would never ever release an expansion (rather they said they’d try to release expansion type content via Living Story) and I’m pretty sure they never said story content would be free. So pretty sure that there was no agreement in that regards after launch either.
The thing is, until we develop brain augmented communication which allows for thoughts to be directly streamed from brain to brain were’ stuck with language. And words are interpret-able and heavily context dependent. So we all interpret what was and wasn’t said differently.

CureForLiving.5360

No increases in cap, no new gear tier. With level scaling you’ll be just as capable of playing old content as you are now. The thing about most MMO’s is that they lack level scaling and tend to add new tiers and levels when an expansion drop, these cause old content to become obsolete by merit of it becoming ridiculously easy. Granted level scaling in GW2 doesn’t exactly make low level content challenging but you’re not one-shotting everything either.

In Edge of Destiny, when Hoelbrak comes under attack by Jormag’s minion, those are Icebrood, (some even showing signs of violent death) not Sons of Svanir whom I liken more with sect fanatics than actual “minions” under the control of a greater entity.

Sons do undergo physical corruption though so eventually they are similar to Branded or Risen. Not sure if they keep their free-will throughout the process.

Native 64-bit game client for this release?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

It would be really needed to improve the core of the game for today computers also. Event old maps could be improved with many things with 64 bit, more players per map, bigger maps, less gaming lags, better graphics and so on. If they only working at the addon things and nothing is done to the main core of the game it would be a really mess.

Bigger maps and more players per map has very little to do with the game client though. Better graphics aren’t necessarily improved by 64-bit either, you’re more likely to get graphical improvements by moving away from DirectX 9 (and then actually implementing better graphics).

CureForLiving.5360

Not sure if you’d build a prison camp in LA, but most likely in the surrounding area.
Of course there’s a lot of political issues to consider.
Firstly why LA? They’re not part of the fight against Mordy, they’re still struggling to rebuild.
So if anyone was going to be building prison camps it would be one of the forces fighting against Mordy (Divinity’s Reach, Black Citadel, Rata Sum or Hoelbrak, not the Pack of course since they’re pretty much in ruin). Judging by the trailer the Charr seem well inclined to locking up every Sylvari they come across. So if anyone was going to build prison camps I’d say the Charr would be the likely candidate.

CureForLiving.5360

Interesting. I missed that announcement and was wondering. It’s going to be a long dry spell if it’s several months till the expansion starts.

At this point all we can probably hope for is SAB

- Living World Season 1 in the Story Journal

I’m starting to give up hope of seeing that any time soon. Maybe after HoT? But mosdt likely they’ll just start working on the next thing.

- fixed PS (Orr in the right order and with the greatest fear plotline)

This is something that seems more likely, since they only need to undo what they did

- Arah Story Revamp (Not much hope here but I think if it comes it comes in the same patch as LW S1)

They’ve had just over 2 years to do it. This is even less likely than S1 I’m afraid.

I heard they were redoing season 1 from more than a few sources

The only source I know about was from the start of S2 where they said they’d like to but currently didn’t have anyone working on it.

Remember that last year ArenaNet slowed update release significantly because they were busy with the preparations for releasing GW2 in China. It’s likely that they will be even more busy now, so I would expect even less than what we got back then.

(Ergo, nothing.)

Which makes me wonder about the time-line for when they decided to do HoT and started working on it. Somehow I kinda feel that if they could have arranged it so that Season 2 went on up until just before HoTs release that would have been ideal (maybe they had development delays? Maybe they only started working on it just after S2 started?). The problem now is that we’re essentially in a position where we can’t expect to see any new content. Hopefully ANet will start releasing HoT details at least, otherwise we’ll be in a position where we have no content and no idea what there is to look forward to. Not to mention that we’ve already had several long release breaks already.

I really really doubt that :P

And I do hope you’re right.

There are gremlins that build flying pyramids, but making a chainmail crotch is too tall of an order.

its content that requires hundreds of players tho, u cant have it to urself

I seem to remember everyone complaining about the zerg content! Granted we still have zerg content but because the content isn’t temporary (i.e. S1) there’s a limit to how much zerg content you can add (since you’ll eventually spread the player base too thin).

There have been several large discussions on the topic, a good example with some developer interaction being found here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Any-progress-on-letting-us-replay-Season-1/first

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do recall a developer post stating that ANet are interested in making season 1 available through the story journal, but it would take a very long amount of time (Again, I may be mistaken in thinking this).

Especially with an expansion on the way, I wouldn’t expect to hear any mention of season 1 until several months after the expansion, perhaps more.

It’s a matter of available development resources (like actual developers). With the expansion coming out there seems to be certain things we can expect to not see until it’s release (such as any more living story content). And after the expansion is dropped they’ll probably reassigned their resources to the next project. So when they announced the new format (back at the start of S2) they stated that they had no one working on it, even though they’d like to have it available as well. Since then we’ve heard nothing on the S1 front.

Living Story, success or failure?

in Living World

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Firstly what was the goal of Living Story? We can’t judge if it was a success or failure unless we know why it existed.

To release expansion type content? Well we can argue about what ‘type’ means but I’d say this was a failure.
To keep players engaged with the game? Well you’re mileage may vary, but I think it did for the most part succeed in providing players with regular updates to continue playing (and thus hopefully continue buying gems). Definitely after 2 years I think Anet finally started to get a knack of how to do this.
If the Living Story exists to bridge the time period between expansions? Well I don’t think it was ever intended for this purpose but I’d say if we measured it according to this it was a great success.
