I like the idea that dungeons should be solo. Let them adjust in difficulty based on the number of players.

To be honest, I only want this for the story modes. Let me do my story without needing 4 other people, please.

ANet hasn’t so much at glanced at dungeon in… well I’m not sure how long but definitely talking about months if not years here. Would be nice if it could scale, but ANet doesn’t seem interested in instanced group content and they haven’t been for a long time.

AFKing in a match is certainly a reportable offence. I’m fairly sure that A-net have said before that the best way to report an afk/leecher in PvP is to report as botting.

Would be nice if there was a separate reporting option though.

There was a few interesting ideas over on https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/What-if-mobs-weren-t-to-drop-loot

If you don’t mind me shamelessly stealing: implement a system by which individual loot is a product of participation to the meta-event. That way a person who AFKs until the breech events won’t get the same rewards as those who actually worked to fill the map meta-event bar. So leeching is less rewarding.

What if mobs weren't to drop loot?

CureForLiving.5360

Run up, tag a mob, run off (or go stand in a corner upping scale but not contributing), tag another event, do it in a group to increase tagging.

Yeah, it’s horribly easy to get gold for events much less the arbitrary bronze for event rewards. I think it’s a problem in how Anet measures event participation. They don’t seem to use a time based model, so in 10 minute event you can rush in during the last minute kill a few mobs and get gold. However using a time based model would incline people not to participate in soon to be done events.
At least in dungeons it would be easier to measure participation, simply count how many dungeon events were completed and how many bosses and mobs were killed and reward accordingly (granted this would infuriate speed runners).

Maybe they’ll release him later on post expansion as some sort of raid boss like they did with the lich king. It was quite an epic way to finish that expansion.

I’m still wondering why my warlock never ran through the streets of Dalaran shouting: “The Lich King is still alive! The Lich King is still alive!”. Of course player characters are not a part of lore in WoW though…

I want them to work all the weapon/armor skins that aren’t available right now into HoT. They said they’ll add them in at some unspecified date, and this would be a pretty good opportunity.

I assume you’re referring to the black lion tickets skins? Yeah, would love that as well. Granted you might get people complaining ‘but I spent hundreds of gold in the tp!’, but I’d think overall it would be nice for the player base to have more weapon skins in game.

i honestly only returned to the game after the tower of nightmares collapsed, so im a bit out of the loop on missing skins, any examples?

Is LA going to be relevant to HoT? are we going to have a “spin off” living world where we focus on the reconstruction of LA while helping Hero-Tron with its spying biz and potentially get adopted by Evon and change our names to Gnashy Jr. while we wait for the xpac? or is it going to be S3 of the living world? Talk to me! XD

I wish we could get spin-off Living World content, there’s a lot of lore that isn’t being addressed and has been hanging for the last two years. But I doubt it, or at least I doubt ANet would do concurrent Living World arcs.

A week per specialization reveal doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an entire week’s worth of information to post about each one. Just that the reveals will be spaced out one per week.

Yeah my thinking as well. But who knows.
So far what we know is that each specialization gets 1 new weapon and 1 new trait-line (and I think it replaces a current trait-line).

So Chris is in charge of overseeing a project. That’s what producers do.

No technically that’s what managers do. But who knows what Anet means by producer (I’d imagine a producers produces, but that’s just me).

The explorable zone will not be big. The upper levels have to be full of holes for the Archeage copied glider to fly through.

You don’t know. You haven’t seen anything.

Well we have seen a region of the upper level. Mind you it’s not like we’ve seen a whole lot so we can still hold out hope.

They have been working on this expansion for years.

It’s hard to say, since ANet is rather mum on the subject. I personally estimate that they’ve been working on it since after the Chinese release, but that’s just my guesstimate.

Well.. not quite. As I understood it from interviews, Anet only seriously started working on the expansion after the chinese release.

Well they never actually said so in any interview, ANet is pretty good at gagging their developers when the camera’s are rolling.
I’m estimating so since they certainly weren’t working on it for the months and months they were working on Chinese release (by their own description it was a lot of hard work so I imagine there wasn’t room for anything else).

Well, since the expansion is going to be the gate for all future living story content, you can look at it as not only paying for what you get day one of HoT launch, but everything that will be added between then and the next paid expansion.

If it helps.

Well ANet doesn’t seem to have exactly decided on it, but I’d presume it will be gated by merit of it being located in or around the Heart of Maguuma.

It’s not an expansion if it does not have ALL of these:

  • new races
  • new dungeons
  • new skills
  • new classes
  • new armors
  • new weapons
  • new game modes

expansion
noun
the action of becoming larger or more extensive.
“the rapid expansion of suburban London”
synonyms: growth, increase in size, enlargement, extension, augmentation, development, evolution; More
antonyms: reduction in size
the political strategy of extending a state’s territory by encroaching on that of other nations.
“German expansion in the 1930s”
a thing formed by the enlargement or broadening of something.
“the book is an expansion of a lecture given last year”
synonyms: elaboration, enlargement, amplification, development; embellishment
“the book is an expansion of a lecture given last year”

Actually these sorts of problems are very interesting, since they don’t really relate to overall processing capacity but more to… I guess amdahl’s law? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amdahl's_law
Basically a given machine only has so much processing power, so you’d have to spread processing across multiple machines, however the problem comes in with all those processes having to be synchronized (or so I’m suspecting). So I don’t think it’s a problem that can be addressed by scaling the infrastructure.

Rytlock, the new Khan-Ur

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Its a hereditary position first and foremost

Nope
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Khan-Ur
Charr work on a militaristic meritocracy, they place little value on bloodlines and family to such an extent that parents don’t even raise their own children.

From the wiki the two requirements are:
Having the Claw
“performing a great act to show the individual’s power.”

Rytlock is a Tribune, not an Imperator. Only Imperators may attempt to become the Khan-Ur

Not necessarily, all that it required is that you have the Claw and you get everyone to agree you’re the biggest scariest Charr around (more or less). An imperator would obviously be in a better position to do this.

Maybe for Kraalkatorrik expansion. There just so many Charrs in Tyria, the planet, and only a few of them are in Tyria, the continent.

Not sure. Kralky is in the Crystal Desert if memory serves (to the south of Ascalon), and the Blood Legion homeland is to the north-ish of Ascalon (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blood_Legion_Homelands) and presumable the Ash Legion’s homeland would also be around there. So it would be difficult to explain how we those legions got involved since they’ve so far been completely unconcerned about Zhaitan or Mordy (well that’s a bit hyperbolic, buy we’ve only seen the mobilization of the ash and blood troops stationed in the Black Citadel and none from the other homelands).

And then Trahearne shows up with the Claw, and claims the title of Kahn-Ur for himself.

Trahearne doesn’t have enough ears I’m afraid.

Rytlock is a tribune of the bloodlegion, therefore he would have to get rid of Imperator Bangar Ruinbringer before even beeing able to attampt becoming the Khan’Ur.

Not necessarily, but that would make the most sense. The requirement is showing great individual power, which Rytlock as a revenant could certainly claim o have done. But I always felt that being a Khan-Ur required the capacity of bending the knee of the imperators (by force or cunning) and I’m not sure Bangar would be willing to do so for his subordinate.

Grind is still grind

CureForLiving.5360

This whole conversation is completely meaningless because everyone is using different definitions of what grind is. I don’t grind in this game. I don’t have to grind. I do a variety of activities and I can get what I want…I’ve done it all without grinding, including five legendaries. Yeah, it takes a lot longer my way, but it can be done.

if you dont feel there is any grind, then you really have nothing to add to the topic of how to ease, eliminate, or change it. Let the people feel it express their views, and possible solutions. It wont really effect you in any case.

Unfortunately so far it’s mostly an argument on what “grind” means and not much about ways to eliminate it or change it.

Which is important. We cannot figure out how to address something unless we have clarity regarding what the problem is.

My Question now Is not “what can we do” , the reports are sent and blocks are given and screenshots kept for Future reference, but rather: what do You guys think about people like this, and his behaviour?

It’s wrong. It’s comprehensible, but wrong. Mind you like others have said, it’s best for you to move on and get over it.

They’re absolutely worth acknowledging.

Nay, you’ll just feel bad and angry and you’ll have to carry that with you. If you ignore them and go on you don’t have to allow their actions to have any lasting (whether sort of long) impact on your mood.
Mind you I suck at this personally, so I speak from experience of the counter point.

Eh, just go play Eve Online or basically any competitive FPS game for a weeks, then come back to GW2 and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, where what you’ve described above is considered unusual.
(^_^)

Valid enough point. I do kinda feel that by the same merit we’re lowering the bar a bit.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

if only this was the mindset of the world…

No, they were suspended for killing the ambient creatures before they could be turned into an candy corn elemental. Even after a GM showed up and moved them to a empty instance (because they claimed to do it for weapon master achievements), they kept going back to the old one.
There is no rule to kill things in the open world for legitimate reasons. Even if you used your balm you do not own the candy corn elementals.

Man I still need to get my torch achievement done… but I kept running into maze farmers… should probably see if I can find a open spot againm but I guess that’s unrelated.

Personally I don’t care for legendary weapons. They’re a common sight nowadays so they’re not unique and their acquisition (in particular the precursor) is about luck/grinding.

Yeah that’s kinda the problem now. Do hope the next bunch of legendaries they add will be account bound along with their pre-cursors (giving that we can now craft them).

But yeah I’d say go for the skins. They won’t be available forever, but legendaries aren’t going anywhere.

Well I’ve always hoped that ANet would include alternative ways of getting Tequatl and Wurm items. Personally I’m hoping they add some way of exchanging Tequatl spoon for chests (since I’ve been hoarding my spoons). But I don’t know how much of a priority it is right now with HoT coming out.
Mind you adding non-RNG ways of getting content should actually be of interest to ANet, and I hope it will be seeing as how they’re now including ways to get pre-cursors without having to rely on RNG or TP. Then again if they add non-RNG ways then they’ll get more grinding complaints, see https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Grind-is-still-grind
So yeah no idea.

Grind is still grind

CureForLiving.5360

What we need here is clarity of terminology.
When I hear grind I think: repetitive mandatory activity
When I hear farming I think: repetitive optional activity

Now what is meant by mandatory and optional can be further clarified. In the context of GW2 I believe that the distinction can be made on grounds of content accessibility. Using this content accessibility we look at the requirements to access content and it presently takes 2 forms: level and gear. Leveling would be considered a grind, getting exotic gear would be a grind.

I guess the OP’s point is that he would like a discussion about how to reduce grind and increase fun rather than a focus on whether or not one person’s optional grind is acceptible while another’s is not.

Fools errand (unless by ‘and’ you meant ‘or’). The only way to decrease grind is to increase content, unfortunately content production will always take longer than it would take to consume this content. What should be the focus is on removing the tedium of grind.

Yes and no.. it was optional for me because I did feel the need to do those raids. I however do feel like getting those cosmetics so if I would want to do that in GW2 the grind is required for me.

Just to clarify, WoW was optional because you wanted to do raids, and GW2 is not optional because you want to get the skins. Logic seems inconsistent. Unless you’re missing a not or two there.

That is indeed the target, while for that people have to accept that indeed one person’s ‘optional’ grind is acceptable while another’s is not.

I’m tell you, clarity of terminology is important.

Not all grind is equal. There is optional and required grind.

Like I previously said, I prefer grind and farming to distinguish the two.

All MMOs have grind in some way or form, there is no way around it. The challenge for the developers is to try to hide the grind as much as possible and make it less apparent and less boring. In my opinion, WoW did a good job at this. In my opinion, GW2 did not.

I think its the difference in scope. WoW had it’s more apparent RNG in the raid. GW2 has RNG everywhere.

And here is the real problem. Farming is the worst kind of grind. It is absolutely boring and mind-numbing. And pretty much all PvE content got reduced to farm-status. The only reason to do any of the above mentioned content now is for the rewards.

So I take it you’re taking the same definition of grind and farm as me then?

grind as most of you know it, and talked about in other games, is not the only way to design or handle things. Sure you want people to repeat things, but there is many ways to not make it become a grind.

I’m honestly interested in knowing how.

If Anet was to add mounts, as an item that could provide some form of movement buff, I would like to see them add something more than just a speed buff. And I think that is exactly what the glider is going to be. It will be a mount that grants access to unreachable places. It has a function beyond simply moving.

Agreed. Mounts that offer nothing but a speed buff is kinda boring, seeing as how most classes (except Guardians if memory recalls) already have speed buffs. Or at least they’d have no value other than as something to provide visual flair (and in that case I’d rather ANet add more armors).

If they added ground mounts, I would want them to provide some form of function, such as jumping gaps

Think Archeage in the simplicity of the glider movement and control; it was brilliant. More or less the only good thing in AA too

Our skills, as a individual character, is a joke compared to the eternal dragons. It makes a Lot more sense , logically, that we would use a super weapon to kill them.

Sure, phase 1 use super weapons to knock Elder Dragon down a peg or two, phase 2 go in for the kill ala no super weapons needed.
The easiest way to fix the Zhaitan fight would simply have been to add another phase after the tower in which we actually get to hit / shoot / magic zhaitan to death.

I do not think we will be fighting Mordy in the expansions.
Matt Visual HoT interview

Colin has the amazing ability to not say things. He didn’t technically say we’re killing Mordy, but he didn’t technically say we’re not killing Mordy.

The only way it could be epicly good is if they made it a world boss where 100+ players are involved. A dungeon boss or storyline boss would have to be toned down a lot and essentially be Zhaitan 2.0.

I don’t think Zhaitan’s fight was bad, I just think it was incomplete.

Yes, why didn’t we get our old skins with the wardrobe feature? I had a toymaker backpack on my old norn guardian that I deleted, but I can’t use that skin now.

Possibly the data no longer exists.

Do you believe Raids are coming?

if you dont understand that other people have different wishes and if you are so jelly and entitled that you cannot grant them what they deserve, play a game that is designed for you. for example, a single player game. i heard there are many out there and still going.

This game was never meant for raiding.

Depends on what you mean by raiding to be honest. Dungeons aren’t great but they demonstrate that small group content is possible. World bosses demonstrate that large group content is possible. So I’d wager that there should be a way to get medium (10-20) group content to work.

I am one of those people strongly against the idea of traditional instanced set-number raids we see from other games making its way in GW2. In those games, they only serve to split the community and act as a cornerstone for most of the elitist behavior.

I think the big problem is that those games tend to focus almost entirely on raid endgame. Granted GW2 has been focusing almost entirely on open world pve end game but this demonstrates the problem. When a game decides ‘this is going to be our end game’, then the other aspects of the game tend to not get as much attention. Or at least this is my fear, I’m all for raids as long as GW2 doesn’t become a raiding MMO.

anet basically stated, that open world isnt the challenging group content.

Implied, but not really stated.

Disappointed with the registration for Beta.

Honestly I don’t want to be part of the beta. I want my first experience with HoT to not be a frustrating bug ridden mess.

No more Sylvari in HoT?

think that because a few slyvari go mad they think all of them are going to be mad and that we will have to defeat Traherne because he’s gone mad. It’s just like how there’s a thread about a tengu in a WvW screencap and people are going mad because they think tengus will be a playable race in HoT even though the devs said no new races right now.

I’m hoping for that bolded part… Only bit of story I’d actually be interested in.

Well it wouldn’t so much be killing Trahearne so much as the story surrounding it. If Trahearne just pops out of nowhere and starts attacking you, it wouldn’t be very satisfying. However the story does hold the potential of the slow corruption of Trahearne and his inevitable fall into the claws of Mordy. Bonus points if they can actually get us to care a bit more about Trahearne before we have to kill him.

I would say the comment about the Anet staff member saying something along the lines of ‘if you haven’t made a sylvari for HoT, you might want to’, I reckon will be just about having additional dialogue or something in the story.

That’s the safe bet.

What to do in the meantime.

If you find the game boring now, it will still be boring when the dlc land. It is just a feature pack + ls saeson.

No not really. It comes down to the what is boring. Is the fundamental mechanics getting boring? Then yes, the fundamental mechanics aren’t going to change. If the content is getting boring then no new content will address that.
Also by dlc I take it you’re referring to HoT? In that case, can you also tell me what next weeks lotto numbers are?

Wouldn’t the Exalted simply be the opposite of the Forsaken?

Doesn’t seem like it
