Yeah, I don’t think ANet is going to allow (in theory) for players to not pay for the expansion (gold → gems). One of the advantages of a boxes expansion is the ability to recoup development costs via box sales.
Fishing feels like a small thing that could make a lot of people happy. Not sure how difficult it would be to implement, but it’s something I hope is on a to-do list somewhere in ANet.
Yeah, I think it’s perfectly fair to not play GW2 if ANet doesn’t give us content to play. I also thing making yourself play GW2 when you’re getting bored of the same old is also only going to make you negatively disposed towards GW2 in the long run.
So go play something else for a while. No matter how lovely the cake is, eating it every day is going to get boring. If Anet releases new content then you can come back, when ANet drops HoT then you can come back, or when you feel like it again then you can come back.
One of the big advantages of B2P model.
I’ve been worried for 3 years now. They still refuse to talk about the future of WvW whilst they can see players leaving everyday.
But they have announced changes for HoT though.
I think the GW2-style raids will not have much in common with the imaginations and experiences of raids many people have.
Better not, there’s too many raiding MMOs out there for GW2 just to add a standard raiding experience.
Now that I think about it, it’s likely they’re working on a Raid but they’re not sure if they’ll be done it in time for the expansion.
Or they’re not sure if raiding would work, either mechanically or thematically in GW2.
I haven’t seen or heard anything which made me think “raid”.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/cdi/CDI-Guilds-Raiding
http://www.pcgamer.com/arenanet-hiring-designer-for-guild-wars-2-raid-content/
You’re not looking or listening too hard.
The problem is that with the limited stamina system of the glider we’d probably not see very long aerial combat. But I do think there’s potential to include it into pvp and wvw.
I played all of it. It was still a zergfest with numbers being the #1 advantage and not players or co-ordination.
I’m referring to the story instances. There were no zergs in there, but pure merit of the fact that you can only be 5 players at a time. I’m more specifically referring to the later boss encounters where a lot of the focus was removed from high damage output and placed on the tactics. These were meant to be solo-able to I’ll admit that there was little cooperation required, but it does show what can be done to add mechanical variety to encounters and adding some cooperation onto what they had should provide a viable alternative to trinity.
Well according to Colin launch is still a few months off (http://youtu.be/BB5YW4YqizY?t=15m52s, he used 6 months specifically but maybe he plucked the number out of the air… or maybe the always planned to have it launch around August). So there’s a lot of time to fill between now and then, so I’m guessing they’ll stretch the info releases as thin as possible.
Immediate deployment or even pre-deployment is fine with me. Mind you the problem is that ANet doesn’t want people being able to deploy just by jumping, or running over a low hill. The fall mechanic seems to have been in place because ANet only wanted it to be deployed in certain conditions. The issue with instant deployment is that programmatically how the game know the difference between falling off a high cliff or falling off a small hill?
This isn’t a world boss, also there will be other wyvern fight (so far we know that the platforms will be getting smaller but I imagine their would also be other mechanical changes). So it being easy isn’t really a problem since it doesn’t seem like it was meant to be difficult group content.
Indeed. The usual fanboys will scream that ArenaNet has been working on this since the day GW2 was released. But it’s obvious the result of a far more recent start, I would guess less than one year ago.
Seems like some of the tech used in HoT has been in development since launch. However I think a good estimate would be that they started working (in earnest) after the Chinese launch (which had taken up several months of development time). So yeah a year sounds about right. Possibly design and prototyping work could have gone into it, but judging by the content drought we got before the Chinese launch it seems like it was all hands on deck so there wasn’t a lot of additional capacity to work on expansion content.
Considering they tried as hard as they could to avoid answering the question, I doubt it.
I’ve noticed in all their interview they’re trying to stay away from this topic as much as possible. Which as far as I’m concerned simply means that they don’t have anything to put on the table. So will there be raids? Maybe, but at present it’s either at a design phase or at a very early implementation phase.
With no trinity you also get raids that are a lot less mechanically impressive.
Less rote certainly. Not sure if less mechanically impressive is correct though.
What’s the point of raids without trinity?
It would result in a zergfest (like world bosses), where you just burn things down asap.
With the current game mechanics, the only raid situation that could exist, is 12/24/71152 people stack in 1 spot, hitting the same boss untill it’s dead.
I guess you haven’t been playing S2 of the living story. There’s a lot you can do without a trinity to make encounters interesting.
i have matches end like 498/500 at least once a day
I wish we had similar matches then. Today was the first time I came close to such a match, every other match I either win or lose by a good 200 points. I’d say a good 90% of my matches the outcome is clear within the first 3 minutes. Kinda wish their was an “i quite”-button sometimes just so I don’t have to waste another 10 minutes of my life in a match that I’m not going to win.
GW2 PvP community is frankly full of loud, annoying and dumb people. Just turn the chat off. Honestly you’d be losing nothing from just going dark.
As far as I remember it was Desolation in eu and ttx in na that had first success. Desolation was the only server I know of in eu that had it down to a farm until megaservers came in.
Yeah, the big problem was always getting enough people together. The second big problem was people not knowing tactics.
Mega-server fixed the numbers, and time the experience issue.
This isn’t really a surprise. The likelihood of SAB never ever appearing was always next to 0%. The issue seems to be that ANet doesn’t want to release it without new content, for some reason.
OH NOES! RNGESUS SAVE ME!
RNG is RNG?
Not sure what you want. Some people don’t get anything, some people get everything. Welcome to the outliers.
Nothing in computer programming is truly RANDOM.
That’s a misconception. RNG is the illusion of randomness.
Everything is the illusion of randomness. If you know all the variables nothing is random.
Um quantum physics and the uncertainty principle anyone? :P
Yep, that’s the problem with RNG: it’s inherently unfair.
How? It’s random, and everyone uses the same randomizing system. There is no advantage that one person has over another. So how is it inherently unfair?
shrugs it’s the way of RNG.
Examples
One of my guildmates has had 11 precursor drops, I’ve had 2, our guild leader has had 1. everyone else zero.Another guild mate got enough ascended armour boxes in WvW to fit out her elementalist, in a week.
I got 3 different fractal skins in 5 runs
RNG come and goes
Would love to know the play times as well. But yeah, play time simply increases the number of chances not the probability of the chances giving you loot.
You get 2 gold per Tequatl kill, not 1 gold. There’s a second gold piece hidden inside the exotic Dragon Chest, in addition to the more easily seen one looted from the big open world chest.
Only the first time a day. If you do it on a second or third or fourth character they all get 1g since you won’t get the exotic chest.
The rng is this game is terrible as lot of us know.
RNG is RNG, it is neither better than worse than other games (there are games however that use pseudo-RNG but that’s not really RNG). The issue is with the number of things hidden behind RNG.
The inclusion of Precursor crafting in HoT seems to indicate that ANet agree with this to an extent. I wouldn’t mind if you could (I don’t know) use those spoons as part of Mystic Forge recipe or something to get the items.
But it doesn’t inherently follow that RNG is bad, simply the wide-scale implementation thereof.
That must be so disappointing, if that happens to me I think I would stop playing for a while.
Well at least until HoT, where we’ll get another channel of obtaining Pre-cursors.
it’s your imagination.
Just because you have an idea in your head doesn’t make it right. So yes it is very possible that something is simply your imagination no matter how many times you imagine it.
You’re adorably naive sometimes, Vayne
And you’re rather condescending. See everyone is something, otherwise we’d be nothing. So everyone is something, except those who are nothing but they’re nothing so they’re not part of everyone so everyone is still something.
I agree with this, i don’t understand why this isn’t already a possibility with all the cosmetic features already in the game. unless the models are on their own color pallet and it cannot be edited i see no reason for it not to be a choice.
I’m guessing having more than one type of wing and more than one type of glowing eyes sells better.
People want to play in other languages
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
I don’t think they will do it.
It would be very expensive to hire all the voice actors needed for other languages. And I think a big % of the people on the internet knows either,English,Spanish or French,so playing in any of these language isnt a problem.
Btw,I think there is a Chinese VO in the chinese client,I doubt they left it in english.
At least ability to customize game UI. Instead of “illegal” game mods.
Amateurs and enthusiasts can do this type of work. At least russian community do that.Translations already exist but you can get ban if use one.
Well this does seem like a perfectly reasonable request.
OP, you probably should looks to making more coherent lists and probably provide explanation for your list items beyond a simple one sentence remark.
Currently it seems like just a bunch of jumped up items that you want but never really place much consideration into why ANet is doing it that way, or what it would mean to do it your way.
My guess is that the name ‘Exalted’ was used for the Mursaat in order to prevent spoilers about the story and the presence of the Mursaat in it.
or they could be trying to disassociate with the name ‘Mursaat’ due to its negative meaning with travelers.
Exalted – the artist formerly known as ‘Mursaat.’
Oh I’m sure they’re Mursaat, probably felt Mursaat didn’t indicate how amazing they were so they decided to call themselves Exalted instead.
*Video* Angry Joe GW2: HoT Interview!
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
Finally, I was just wondering earlier today why they let those other youtubers and streamers post videos just made yesterday at the ANet offices and yet they hadn’t let you post yours made a week ago.
Everyone who was at the HoT preview were under embargo. That means that no one who was at the ANet offices a week ago was allowed to post videos videos before yesterday. Well videos about the game itself though.
Yeah, I’m a bit concerned with the issue of mileage myself. Not a lot of though, since new content is new content. But I’d love to be able to get a meaty piece of new content.
So I was watching the AngryJoe interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG5oUKqbIVM
And although Colin says there will be including a recap, after watching the demo story instance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=010AedkzQiY I’m not fully sure what we’ve seen (admittedly a small and abridge version) is a good indication of providing much of a recap.
Since I’ve been playing since just after launch I don’t really need to have a recap, but I do feel that this might act as a barrier or entry to new or returning players, which might turn them away or make the experience less enjoyable. I really think ANet needs to consider just how easily new or returning players will be able to pick up the lore in-game (i.e. not have to google or go to the wiki to know who the biconics are).
I’ve always liked the idea of a lore journal myself (although ANet hasn’t said anything for or against). I just hoped It’s something more than some bad expository dialogue.
http://www.guildwars2sa.co.za/index.php is not an official site, right?
Not official
Then how would you explain that for some it works fine and for some it does not?
Your complaining does not help anyone either.I don’t need to explain that.
Why not it’s a horribly easy explanation. PCs aren’t homogeneous and aren’t dedicated gaming devices. This means issues can crop up with certain configurations (for which there are many many possible ones), or as a result of a non-gaming or gaming application, configuration or setting on a computer.
This is why developers like consoles since they only have to test on a handful of platforms i.e. the platforms they will deploy on. Also this is why PC games tend to be bugger than their console version.
64 bit has no restrictions on what the game can use.
Well that’s not strictly true, it simply has a higher restriction. Could probably google the math for you if you want.
What? You can’t? Oh because you need a lot more power on a PC to do what a console does with a fraction? And years for now the PC you got now that’s on paper better than a PS4/Xone is gonna be on a can because it just won’t be able to play anything while the consoles are still gonna be kicking? Bummer.
Sort of correct but not fully. The advantage is in the standardised architecture. Anyone with a working knowledge of assembler can tell you that certain processor architectures can be optimised in certain ways while others can’t. On the console you can do a lot more tricks to get performance which isn’t as easy to do on PC because of the different possible setups. This doesn’t means that consoles are always better, these optimisation do improve efficiency but eventually PCs can have a processing potential that exceeds a console with all the stopped pulled out.
As of January 2015 this is the OS split.
Windows 7 64 bit 46.37%
Windows 8.1 64 bit 26.86%
Windows 7 11.07%
Windows 8 64 bit 4.20%
Windows XP 32 bit 3.80%
Windows Vista 64 bit 1.07%
Windows 8.1 0.64%
Windows Vista 32 bit 0.63%
Windows 8 0.31%
Windows 10 64 bit 0.28%
Windows XP 64 bit 0.19%
I’ll go with a not representative sample here.
Let’s not have this devolve into AMD vs NVidia. This is about Guild Wars 2 and optimisation of its engine.
Optimised for what? That’s the question, since optimisation inherently requires specialisation.
i said u need to get better GPU if u want more FPS because better CPU wont help u
Depends on where the bottleneck is, but GPU is usually a good bet. We’d probably need to see CPU, RAM and GPU usage to be certain.
I’ve found the game to be much more crashy lately – getting disconnected a lot – which I assume is the result of increased player numbers since announcing HoT.
But I haven’t. So yeah, we’d probably need bigger numbers to be sure. ANet is probably the only one who would know, assuming people actually submit crash reports.
why? they could give people the option to run the game in 64 bit and dx 12.
and people who cant use 64 bit and dx12 would still be able to run the game like right now.
Actually no you wouldn’t be able to. 64bit can run 32bit but 32 bit can’t run 64bit, and dx12 can run dx9 but dx9 can’t run dx12. So you’d likely have to maintain two versions of the game. Although not exactly sure about this, I think you might be able to still change between dx9 and dx12 in game (or in code, but I’m not a game programmer so maybe I’m wrong), but the moment you compile the code (that is 32bit or 64bit) you’re basically locking it to that architecture.
Than they would have to maintain at least 2 different clients, which will cost more money …
Not to mention change control. Although this might be covered under deployment management… Well I know this one consultancy I worked for was implementing this rather complex system that would have allowed them to compile common code for different platforms, but I never actually looked into how.
We most likely won’t be getting racial, order or profession based stories. For good reason I believe. So far it looks like we’re getting a single big story instead of a bunch of small stories.
Can we disable the "Fall Scream" in HoT?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
I though it is called the mute button. Could be wrong though.
Effective but not particularly efficient
I fully support the combination of gliders and tonics!
Why is this clear and utter failure of the block system allowed to persist for so long?
Likely because the block feature was implemented first (at launch) and the lfg feature was implemented later, and very likely the integration between the two wasn’t considered or left out for scoping reasons.
Very likely it’s on a programmers backlog somewhere in ANet.
Really wish we could see people’s gear and specs
Sure. Lets open up another window for discrimination. As if AP and gear pings weren’t enough.
Nah, being able to see peoples specs/gear would actually be a real indicator of someone’s competence or ability to read LFG descriptions.
No it just opens up the possibility of people who think they know everything about the game to rant at people who DARE do something different.
Yeah I’m on the ‘no’-band wagon on this one. The benefit is small but the potential for abuse is large.
If I am aiming to just get a legendary, doesn’t matter which one… Would it be best to put in Greatswords into the forge since there are 2 Greatsword Legendaries? Would that be a higher chance of getting a precursor?
I’m not that good with probabilistic mathematics, and we don’t have any hard reliable figures on what the drop rates are for precursors in the mystic forge. It does seem more likely (off the cuff) that if you’re going to gamble greatswords would give you a minutely better chance.
Forging for precursors is like playing a lottery: if you play a little, expect to lose all/most of your investment. I recommend saving for the precursor you want.
Granted playing the lottery a lot doesn’t particularly guarantee winning either :P
As far as I know GW2 was not built to support 3D devices such as oculus rift. Doesn’t mean you can’t patch something together, I’m sure.
I think there may come a time when Chris or another dev revisits the topic of Dungeons and Fractals, whether that’s by starting a new CDI or reopening the old one. I cannot speak for the devs on this subject, but I feel I can say that right now they would not be able to engage on this subject, although I know it’s definitely on their radar.
It’s confirmed no new dungeons or fractals in HoT. Or that’s my takeaway in anycase :P
Guild halls were something along with GvG that anyone should have expected DAY ONE with a sequel to GUILD wars.
Sadly the name GUILD WARS is given by the GUILD WARS between the major guilds of Ascalon Kryta and Orr and has nothing to do with player-guild-based PvP
learn the Lore :p
I feel like these people could also complain about Star Wars not having stars fighting each other.
Dunno what you’re talking about. It had Sir Alec Guiness fighting James Earl Jones.
That was like one time, and hardly what I would call a war :P
It does have the “Death Star” . . . and there’s a war involving it . . .
Then why wasn’t it called Death Star War?
Demand everything your way, assume you speak for everybody, and assign arbitrary value to everything in whatever way best suits your ludicrous rhetoric! Just remember kiddos, as long as you don’t use the word “entitled,” nobody can accuse you of being it, no matter how entitled you are actually being!
True enough. But we’ve already responded to OP in the most logical way possible. By derailing the conversation and talking about Star Wars.
Keep in mind that those DC problems are mainly for Europeans using a CERTAIN supplier. Which would point more towards the issue lying with said supplier rather then the servers themselves.
I play on European servers as well and I don’t experience any issues with DCing that couldn’t be explained by issues with my own computer of ISP.
Quite often, I DC, but all other programs on my computer that require an internet connection won’t disconnect, suggesting its an issue with ArenaNet’s servers.
I don’t often DC, so I guess that means anecdotal evidence isn’t particularly useful here.
You’ve all already seen this I’m guessing? http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/gw2-black-feather-wings-backpack-41.jpg
My wallet is ready.
Would be interesting if some of our backpack skins could unlock glider skins.
Would love to see a http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Holographic_Shattered_Dragon_Wing_Cover version, maybe even a http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wings_of_the_Sunless
Please, enlighten me as to how DPS meters do any of these things.
Are you telling me that anyone with a DPS meter instantly turns into someone who thinks that other players’s respective worths are defined solely by the holy numberz? Because funnily enough, that’s a load of horse crap.
You do realize you’re on the internet?!
Or rework the daily system so that it doesn’t end up forcing a bunch of players onto random professions that they don’t want to play and are awful at when a large portion of the community prefers to only play a single (or very small number) of professions.
That’s actually why they implemented the daily system, in order to get people to play other professions.
I don’t know, my MMR must fluctuate a lot since I get horrible horrible teams for a few matches and then suddenly out of nowhere a decent or even good team.
The problem with MMR in this game is if you soloque, you can only carry bad teammates so far. Thus resulting in losses that are completely out of your hands meaning that you can’t escape your low MMR hell… Really quite frustrating.
That’s basically my greatest fear.
I’d like it if my second MawdreyII wasn’t linked to my first MawdreyII i.e. that I could feed them individually.
Well they are for the most part optional, so that helps to balance out some of the lackluster rewards. But yes some nicer collection with some nicer rewards would be nice, but I wouldn’t be heart-broken if it doesn’t happen anytime soon.
I don’t think anyone wouldn’t prefer if outfits could also be mixed and matched. That’s not the issue here. Outfits are preferred because they’re easier to produce. Each piece introduced needs to be checked to ensure it fits with all other pieces of gear in the game, that is each new soldier piece needs to be checked against every chest and head armor.
If you have the cash, crafting. By getting all professions to maximum level, you can get yourself a quick 470AP.
And talking about money: cultural armor, drink and food achievements, TP for collection achievements.
Usually after about 4 or 5 bad matches in a row… Well assuming I’ve done my dailies already.
This could work for GvG. I’d say ANet should experiment with smaller large numbers (say 10v10) and see if that works before going for something like 30v30
I meet a lot of nice people regularly in open-world PVE, but I’ve seen some truly horrific behavior in PVP and dungeons, so I think it’s less about the game and more about where in the game you play.
Yeah. Mechanics such as node, event and kill sharing does help a lot. PvE has mechanics in place which makes it difficult (although it has happened) for players to actively grieve other players. This is also probably due to the zerg focus of some pve content where individual failings (purposeful or otherwise don’t impact overall success. In the case of Dungeons and PvP however individuals are required to contribute to achieve success, and thus individual failing has a far larger impact. So blame can more easily be assigned.
Cool bi-weekly update. Totally worth waiting.
Sarcasm right? Either do it correctly (as in no ambiguity) or use a ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony_punctuation), it just makes the reading easier.
EDIT: Huh, forums don’t like irony it seems
Inspecting or`the incurable curiosity of men`
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
I second what eggs said. Skins and Dyes being up for inspection would be nice.
I agree with this. But not stat inspection, too much elitism waiting to happen.
They are aspects of the real world, though, and omitting them implies either that it’s forced because of the rating (preventing us from exploring the influence of these aspects on Tyria) or that these problems have been, somehow, solved (and we don’t know how).
No it just means you use heavy handed metaphors. Instead of crack you can have someone addicted to pixie dust, and still have him act like a crackhead (I’m thinking of the Blood Elves from WoW now). Brutal violence is simply fan-service, violence done by one to another can illicit similar reactions, murder is murder (no matter how violent it was). Sex is pretty much fan-service as well though.
