Skipping cutscenes: Source
Jeffrey Vaughn
Content Designer
“There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone. That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” (and the fancy but rare full blown cinematic sequences, like the Order movies and racial intros) are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off."
i.e. “we did one bad thing to prevent another bad thing”.
Which is why reset nodes would be idea, that way you watch the cutscene once, fail the encounter, run to the reset node, and do the encounter again without having to watch the cutscene.
Joining an asuran krewe would be less contentious, if done in a labor or otherwise hands-on capacity. I could imagine being part of the krewe’s brains, however, might tarnish the project’s reputation.
To me it feels that in most of the dynamic events in which we work with or help krewes out we’re essentially being treated as contracted labor (i.e. why we get paid upon completion).
I can definitely see them hiring/recruiting other races as test subjects. Their first encounter with the sylvari ended in experimentation and I’ve seen them experiment on skritt and other races in game.
They do have a kinda ethics policy though, for the most part mainsteam Asura tend not to experiment of sentient creatures (or at least not the sort of experiments that explicitly involve long term harm) while Inquest have little to no moral qualms about cutting open anyone they come across (for science of course).
Well kinda feel like a lore vs mechanics issue. Although not a big one. Mechanically as a Charr you can enter human territories, any human city and even walk right up to the queen and say hello. Lore wise you’d have already expected a bit more hostility if you as a Charr came wondering into human towns or walked up to the queen (fully armed).
Only problem I had with the Dead End bar is that, given the mechanics of the camera it always felt so claustrophobia. Might be better with first person camera though.
That holds true in Black Citadel because it is the Iron Legion Citadel, I’m pretty sure that you’ll find Blood Legion engineer creating devastating weapons in the Blood Citadel in the Charr Homelands and Ash Legion creating nasty traps and devices in their Citadel.
In the same way that the Black Citadel has Ash and Blood Legions stationed there I’m sure that there are Iron Legion in both the Ash and Blood Legion territories.
Actually, in the pre-release articles anyway (so bear in mind ANet could change this), it was implied that Ascalon is the only place where the legions collaborate, on account of being the only place where their ancestral common foe still gave them grief.
In an interview around release https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TKBmx1Pt5k it’s made clear that Ash and Iron are beneath Blood Legion rules in Blood Legion territory, Iron and Blood under Ash Legion rules in Ash Legion territory and Blood and Ash under Iron Legion rules in Iron Legion territory. It seems like an odd set of rules if Blood, Ash and Iron only work together in Iron Legion territory.
dx 12 first before vr!
Yeah, on the list of things to implement Dx 12 (or 11) and 64 bit is probably a bit higher on players wish list.
I guess thought it depends how difficult implement VR support is going to be.
On the bright side now that ESO is B2P you don’t have to feel any sort of compulsion to play it. You can always wait until more exciting content is released.
Will you be sending out more beta invites or are those the only invites people will get? I played since GW1, played GW2 since closed beta.
I think there will be one than just 1 beta.
Also did you sign up for the newsletter?
I think what Colin meant is that a single personal story line doesn’t provide sufficient information for the players to really know what’s going on unless they’ve played the other personal story lines. Like the Krait Orb, if you didn’t select that option you’d have no idea why in the battle of Fort Trinity the orb is there or what it does. Or know why Trahearne a necro is wielding a greatsword which can apparently be used to cleanse Orr. Also the full scope of events aren’t properly communicated this way, for example in the defense of LA after Claw Island was taken you only see a single Order protecting LA while all three Orders did so, and in the march to Arah you only see a single line of assault instead of all three (tanks, ships and a magical nuke).
We can never have too many variety of wings!
Granted I clearly didn’t pay attention to the announcement, but I’m pretty sure I heard something about a borderland rotation?
Would have loved if Kodan was playable. But ohh well what can we do.
Complain on the forums?

*Raid Dungeons
*Ground Mounts
*Trinity in PvP
*Arial Combat
*WvW gets EOTM features and new features
*EOTM cycles the current map as well as the EB map.
*New Mobile Siege weapons
*Weapon Size slider to make weapons larger for bigger races, mainly 1 handers.
Raids? Ground Mounts? Eh I guess it’s possible but unlikely? Trinity? Yeah that’s not going to happen.
Would love the size slider, but that’s more because I’d love to give my Asura Warrior a comically large greatsword.
Aren’t they going to implement a couple of different borderlands? So far they’ve revealed the desert borderland, so probably next week they’ll reveal the another borderland.
I’ve seen nothing to indicate that there will be more than this one map.
Rechecked the announcement vid. Yeah one borderland with 3 keeps. I thought it was 3 borderlands XD
I’d like special events that lead to other special events that lead to other special events that lead to other special events that lead to larger special events and eventually it would lead to those having done all those events to access a special event that looks like a raid but isn’t a raid, yet offers new things to experience and such.
Than it won’t be a raid. It will be another zerger
Yes, if we define raids as exclusively being instanced content.
As for GW2 I do hope instance raid content eventually shows, so tired of afk’s and bad players ignoring simple mechanics of a fight for the same reward.
Yeah get that feeling often as well. Although I think this is more a result of there not really being any challenging content in game.
I’m guessing the glider is drab because the gem store will have cosmetic skins.
Is there any doubt?
Would love to have a world boss in Plains of Ashford (and honestly the Charr are the only ones left out). But probably not going to happen anytime soon or at all. ANet has clearly stated that they prefer to focus on new content instead of on old content.
It seem to me the big problem here isn’t how bad the last patch was, but how relatively great all the other patches were. We were being spoiled with patches that fixed a lot more than they broke. Although I’m a bit of two minds regarding this, since one would argue that all patches should have a net benefit, although on the other hand there’s plenty of examples of far worse patches in other games out there.
Aw boo
I dunno how I feel about that lmao.
Yeah ANet could do a better job at least of communicating that fact that the story continues at level 10.
The problem with FPV is that it’s not really conducive to optimal play. If ANet includes first person weapons then players might assume this means that ANet is endorsing playing in FPV.
So after this patch and the absolutely insane amount of bugs and problems its caused nearly every player, I really don’t mind them pushing the HoT release back much, much further, if it means the expansion will run even HALF as stable as the game is currently. I consider myself lucky to only have a handful of bugs during gameplay; when I read some other players’ comments and posts, it seems that a lot of people have it much worse.
This has all been a clever ruse by Anet. Whenever in the future people insist that HoT needs to drop immediately people will refer back to this time and say “I’d rather have it when it’s ready”.
I remember a bug in Ultima Online that turned everything in your inventory into fish when you crossed a certain bridge. lol
Kids today don’t know how well they have it. Back in my day… :P
Granted ICM doesn’t really work 100% with GW2 but it does feel like it could be a nice optional addition.
Lastly, are any of them worth playing and what do you get out of them when you complete them?
There is a way to play them without buying, all you need to do is get a friend who has the episodes and have them invite you into there party and replay those episodes. Although doing this would mean you won’t get the achievements.
You don’t have to be level 80, you get upscaled to level 80.
You can read up more at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wvw
If it makes you feel better, sinister stats rally aren’t worth it. You get better DPS by going zerker.
even though they don’t allow females to use magic.
They don’t allow females to do anything but make babies.
Thats what I thought at first too, but when I went to check the tank factory in the Black Citadel (somewhere near the Factorium district) I saw those massive tanks, generaly used by Blood Legion Soldiers being created.
Iron is probably creating those custom tanks by BLegion demand for the frontlines.
You can find those tanks in your home instance near BL settlement, and spread over ascalon lands also under BL control.
Yeah, Iron makes the weapons, Blood uses the weapons.
Only really Smodur I think, the Iron Legion Homeland is in Ascalon, the Blood, Ash and Flame all have their own territories (think Flame might overlap with Ascalon though).
just because the rightful king of ascalon is required to break the curse it doesnt necessarily mean that they then have claim to ascalon itself, likely if the curse is ever broken the human doing it would simply be doing so to improve relations with the charr by removing the ghost threat
I don’t think giving the Charr less enemies is a way to ensure peace… Was watching an interview (a bit old https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TKBmx1Pt5k) in which it was made clear that the peace treaty is only with the Iron Legion. Both Ash and Blood are still technically hostile towards the human, So if they were suddenly given less enemies to fight…
No news regarding changing how pets works. So far it looks like the Druid won’t be changing how pets words.
Aren’t they going to implement a couple of different borderlands? So far they’ve revealed the desert borderland, so probably next week they’ll reveal the another borderland.
Since ANet removed the underwater PvP map I think it became fairly clear that ANet wasn’t too happy with it, or at least felt that it could use a rework. Granted we’d probably not see a rework until we have substantial content that is set underwater.
Yeah ticket scraps are some of the less nice parts of the RNG system, especially given the fact that there are all those nice skins hidden behind the RNG wall or a ever increasing TP cost. Frankly unless you’re actively farming keys it’s probably not that worth it.
It’s definitely something I’m working on. If you’re technically-minded, there’s a pull request on Github that details our plans for the initial release of an API endpoint that will allow the creation of sites that can access your character data.
What about privacy?
Will I be able to set a per-character flag saying I don’t want my character exposed by the API?
Ah the ever constant fear of gear inspecting and elitism that follows
You can change legendary weapon status as you like. Would love it is Anet could introduce legendary armour with the same ability.
Yeah my setup isn’t great either. I really should get a more comfortable arrangement.
The thing that I find is over powered about them is the width of the attack (which is wider then the animated visual). There are numerous times when I have stepped or dodged out of the way of the attack visual and they still hit me. Other times I have been standing to the side and seemingly without being hit I am damaged and knocked away.
That’s my only complaint! How many times I’ve dodge out of the way only to be hit by their attacked. How many times I’ve side stepped and still gotten hit. Seriously the only thing I think Anet should fix about then. Either widen the animation of decrease the attack width.
And truth is people are doing fine in SW. You’re not suppose to 1 vs 10 modrems and still have success. They’re meant to be challenging and require some group work. If a group of modrems pwned easily be one player, there’s no group work required.
Yeah that’s basically the first thing you learn. Boy do you learn it the hard way XD
1vs. 10? when does that even happen in SW?
1v3 is often already enough, when they start to charge all at the same tiem at you and right at that moment when you want to dodge, you get perma rooted with tons of immobilizes so that their rishes and al ltheir stacking lines wil lhit you. What can you please do about that then? Thats not L2P
I guess we could debate about the nature and meaning of L2P. But to me it seems you’re approaching the encounters wrong. You seem to be trying to rambo these fights. Yeah I can agree that it’s a bit more difficult for melee since you get rooted a bit easier and charged as well (not a lot of room to see the telegraphs). Usually I’d advice if you’re not feeling particularly confident to get someone else to help you. Again remember, team work is the best work!
What is rooting you?
I’m assuming the husks.
I just wish the width of the charge was more in line with reality. I’ve dodged twice in a row away from the line and I still end up flailing around like a drunken turkey because the terragriff that is 900 range away still somehow KD me… The hitbox on those things is insane.
i think that there path is too wide. Sometimes I think i’m out of range when they charge but you’ll still get hit.
ANet really should fix that, it’s undeniably a bug! Of course I’m just sour because I often get charged, dodge and still get hit and then charged by another teragriff XD
I would wager a guess that most places they don’t want you climbing up to (aside from exploits) are places where you would be able to see beyond the carefully-crafted illusion of the game world. Maps in video games are as minimal as they can be (for what the devs want), and if players can gain access to places where they see the endless void behind the curtain, it’s just tacky. Since they can’t make an infinite world for the players to explore, they have to put up boundaries that prevent them from reaching the places that break the illusion.
Probably so. Still would have been nice if we could just climb up stuff.
Wait OP are you saying that just because you don’t like it and you won’t use it ANet has to rip the functionality out of the game entirely? You know that’s somewhere between dumb and highly narcissistic.
Honestly the only difference I’ve noticed is that the zooming in and out isn’t as smooth as it was, and the slight overall fps knock.
Greeeeat.
So I’m being forced to buy gems to get a pair of pants. Forgive me for taking a hiatus, Anet :/
Yep. They came to your house, put a gun to your head and said “You must get the pants NOW” and so you have to buy the content release that the pants came from.
It’s so cruel. But you know, business is business.
If only people didn’t actually think of it that way…
Boy (or maybe girl) I think ya gotta get yo self some thicker skin there.
So ANOTHER Condi thread……/facepalm
Why not? The older ones are dead. We need to keep talking about it so Arenanet knows how much it means to the player base.
So keep fighting the good fight I guess
I had (have) the same thought. Didn’t we have lore down there in the past? (Maybe it was only during the BWEs…)
That’s what I heard. No idea why ANet removed it, seems like a nice enough little addition to the game.
Stop making ideas about punishing ppl for playing open world.
That exactly us not the problem people are complaining about.
Working, slowly but working…
EDIT:
Guess not. New error message though, that’s nice I guess.
(edited by CureForLiving.5360)
Same here, probably messed something up with the new -StreamingClient
EDIT: This isn’t failing like usual i.e. full servers or bad connections. The client varies between 1kb and 0kb then shows connection error
(edited by CureForLiving.5360)
We’re going to get a camera change soon, probably along with a couple of other things.
