D/p thief, ca. 4k games, team exp (nothing too special though, besides winning pugquest recently). Have mic/ts etc. Can play evenings (CEST) under the week and any time on weekend.

I got 550-900ms latency according to game (F11) from time to time. My connection latency at the same time, according to speedtest.net, is 30ms.
I though this was only in WvW, then I realized its PvP as well… now I go in PvE and I got lag as well..!
well the joke it, when i made the post the game showed steadly 30-40 ms yet the skill lag was quite intense
I don’t have much to add to this post other than agreeing with the OP. I recently switched to thief because I’ve fallen in love with the gameplay for the first time after main-ing Engineer for 2 years. I just don’t like the +1 role that thief is assigned to in PVP, it should at least have one or two more options available to it!

I don’t really play-play this game anymore so I will be glad to sell all my mats and donate the gold to the Teef coffer later today. It might not be much since I never really play-play this game like I used to, but it’s still better than nothing.

We have 160 people. If some choose to Gloriuos track that works for the maintenance costs, I think.
I think it would be absurd to expect everyone to to pvp and run only that track. 7 min cof run once a day (by 5 ppl) seems like less demanding to me.
not sure if it is servers or game related but hidden thief steal seems to cause huge delay (up to 3 sec) on backstab sometimes w/o delay on other skills however…

Mesmer was already nerfed, and its probably in a pretty good state of balance now in my opinion. As for ele, I’ve heard from a streamer that was at the WTS that the ele balance dev is on vacation right now, so thats why there hasn’t beenany real balance for eles. Thats also why the tempest beta weekend notes aren’t up yet.
Anyway though I seriously doubt mesmer will be nerfed again. It feels to be relatively well balanced again, and the only thing thats close to over the top is PU, which isn’t that strong in conquest, so I don’t mind too much. Plus Robert Gee is on top of his kitten as a balance dev and probably would have nerfed it by now if he thought it was needed.
If you think that mesmers are in good state now then half of the classes need massive buffing lol.
Not EVERYONE is gonna play Warr + Guard + Cele Necro + Mesmer just to counter a braindead spec like d/d ele. I don’t understand why this class has so many privileges when they are fine if they take away some of what they have.

Except good ele can beat all those classes/builds (even if they are played by good players).

+ 1 to this post. Over years, patch after patch thief slowly degenerated from assassin/roamer that posed a threat to sad utility pet used for stealth/+1/rezzes, heavily relying on teammates to do the fighting and not capable to hold weight on its own.
Thief is not a class anymore really, only thing that holds them in meta is sb 5.
It relies mainly on single target dmg that is not even highest among other classes and often too complicated to execute. Very low survival (again compared to other classses). Not king of stealth anymore either. Moblity is there but current dd ele and mes can do just as well while having more tools at their disposal. Don’t let me start on team utility/support.
Thief is still balanced around stupid glass cannon mentality while other classes do just as much (if not more dmg) while having absurd high survivability, CCs and good access to moblity.
Bottom line, i think thief could use some changes here and there but mainly Anet should really tone down other classes to thief level and stop handling them out improved versions of all the thief tools.

Game shows 30 ms latency, still having 1-2 sec delay on all skills in matches. Why?
Blinding ashes need to go, the class already has enough defensives mechanics. Burning also needs base dmg nerf. Those 2 changes already would bring dd eles bit in line with other classes.
I understand people want to faceroll but ele in current state is just too strong and too rewarding. It has close to no downside and fills all roles with 1 build. It is just wrong.

Hallo fellow thieves, our [Teef] guild runs arenas on EU and NA servers for anyones use from the guild. So far they were being financed from privat pockets from few guild members. I am responsible for EU arena and i would rather not rely on donation but i would love to keep arena functioning.
So here is the idea: i am going to run cof p1 every day (say around 9 pm CEST). I would need 4 other volunteers from the guild (or if anyone from outside of the guild interested) to do those runs. Participants can keep anything they get from dungeon besides the final gold reward which will go into buying time coins for EU arena.
Also, if anyone on NA is interested to run NA group, please contact me or just post in this thread.
P.S. obviously you can use any class you want for runs
Ele (dd) – too much of everything, close to no downsides: can bunker point, can 1vsX for extended period of time, can rotate fast between points, have great team support, rezzes etc.; stacking them is profitable. Flame me all you want but fire trait line needs massive nerfing.
Mesmer (various builds)- high burst, decent moblity + unparalleled portplays, high CC uptime, absurdly high surival for such bursty roamer. Stacking them up to 2 can be profitable.
Rampage war – can wipe half team if you don’t have tools to deal with rampage. High dmg, high on land moblity, decent survival, ok CC (if running hammer). Can be kited however, still gets countered well by blinds.
Staff ele, i am surprised nobody mentioned them. They are close to unkillable atm, may be not as mobile as dd but are really good point holders. Wouldn’t suggest to stack them though (low moblity etc.)
Thief (questionably) – only viable if played by really good player. Low surival, can’t 1v1 most classes atm, can’t hold points, can’t contest them, has however group stealth, really good team rez, great moblity (vertical as well) which keeps them in meta. Good thief can be extremely helpful to keep enemy points decapped, securing buffs and setting up kills for teammates, however bad/average thief is huge liability and having one of team might lose you a game. Stacking them increases losing chances exponentially.
Burn guard, bunker guard, engi, necro – put them all in one tier. They are all quite strong however since they all have weakness they get heavily outshined by eles or mesmers (depending on role). Exception is necro that can be used to counter eles however due to lack of moblity and stability they can die pretty fast under focus fire.
Ranger – became extremely annoying due to pet taunt but still suffers from same issues as pre-patch.

First of all i am glad something like this is finally getting implemented. I hope that eventually it will also work better than what we have atm.
Now to the concerns:
1. TL/DR: please separate soloq and teamq.
From what i saw and understood soloq and teamq will not be separated allowing set teams to farm ranks easily and leaving soloq players (which are still majority in this game no matter how much teamq is forced on them) with low chances for higher tiers, lesser rewards and close to no motivation. I do not think that “You gonna stuck in silver for the rest of your life unless you form a team” is good motivation for soloq players nor it will change any circumstances that prevent them from having a team.
2. Also, rather bound to first point. Ranks/leagues w/e they are called can be sold. Let’s assume there is a team that is really really good. What would prevent them from selling 5th slot on their team (temporary) to carry that person to desired league? (If soloq and team would be separated, at least it wouldn’t be issue in soloq). (see point 4)
3. You can’t lose tiers even if you lose a lot. I think it is wrong. It just promotes farming just like the current system. I think it is ok not to lose divisions but one should lose tiers if they lose certain amounts of games while sitting at 0 pips in that division. Otherwise losing is hardly punishing besides making farming rewards bit longer.
4. Again teamq and carry: let’s assume amber player teams up with with players from different divisions. How would be enemy team set up? How would match-making decide which players should be facing such premade? Assuming matchmaking would work as it works now, such set up would allow higher division players to easily farm pips by allowing 1 low division player on team.
I think if let’s say team consist of players from bottom to top divisions, the matchmaking should put enemy team preferably from higher divisions thus making low division player a big liability and dicouraging intentional farming
5. Punishment system should really be more severe. If player was found consistently afking/trolling etc. they should lose divisions, not just tiers.

He shouldn’t take it so seriously. We did try to organize things, most of the time only few people were interested actually. People just sit on their fat butts and expect to be fed from golden spoons w/o doing something themself. I am on vacation with my BF atm so i can’t do much besides pouring some gold into EU arena but i hope i get more time later. But once again, if people don’t show up there also will be no interest (logically) from organizers.
1. our spec will be amazing on paper, total garbage in reality
2. mesmer is too good in many ways, just because they have spec doesn’t mean they should be way better than current thief w/o spec… but it is not like anyone at Anet has any interest in it or pvp for that matter. They themself said they don’t know crap about pvp because they don’t have time to play it. Whole balance is probably based on statistics that just show there are crap load of Ezios in this game.
roll ele if you gonna play solo and try to carry
thief is close to impossible to carry solo atm
ranger is possible but you would need to be pretty good and probably run condi build
thief pros:
- can rotate fast, can cause outnumbered situations fast
- decent escape tools
- certain amount of CC
- one of the best rezzes atm
cons:
- you can’t 1v1 anyone with same skill atm (besides other thieves ofc)
- you have to rely on your team to hold points as you can’t neither contest them nor defend them
- you can’t stay long in big fights
Problem with ranger is that it just doesn’t have much team support nor great surivival. You can play condi build, have OK surivival/dmg and defend points but todays faceroll builds (see mes, eles) will just beat you anyway.
Now thing with eles is: they have everything. Besides stealth maybe. Absurd surival and sustain, really good dmg thanks to fire trait line, pretty good moblity if you don’t waste CDs so switching between points can be done pretty well on current dd build. Also, CCs, heals for teammates etc. The only downside is if you face multiple necros alone you will go down (but who wouldn’t)~

Um, pve has quite few exclusive skins (LS, fractals etc.)
Why can’t pvp reward players for being good at it?
Also, pve in many cases is absurdly easy compared to pvp (high tier).
P.S. i have done my share of speed runs, fractals lv 50, daily aether path, tripple wurm, teq, LS. I am also rank 80 in pvp, was top 100 on LB before they got turned into grind fest and have about 3900 games.

Yes, mesmer is strong atm but why jump the band wagon? Thief core mechanics didn’t change (which are still fun) besides playing mesmer will just spoil me (just like turret engi would) and make me worse player than i am atm.
Also, i personally don’t use as much stealth in pvp as it can lose me point pretty fast.
Sparkz, thieves are not only about dmg in this game. They got certain disruption role just like sub rogues in wow. If thieves were only about dmg there wouldn’t be a single thief in pvp atm as our dmg is pretty laughable atm compared to what other classes can pull while having better survival.
I do not think that adding some condi and controll effects to attacks would be a good idea because:
- for condis to be somehow effective thief would have to go full condi build (which is a joke in pvp)
- thief weapon spells are semi-spammable, i don’t think we need another CS mesmer… such buff would just lead to massive nerfs to our moblity and i think it (moblity) is what makes thieves so much fun to play
tbh from personal experience, i feel like s/d > shiro; the energy costs are pretty big and revenant just lacks escape/survival tools like thief
i know s/d isn’t in great shape atm but it definitely can do more in bad situation where shiro just dies pretty fast
the problem is eles being too strong atm, fire line needs some nerfing

I feel like I’m watching a different game than you. Nos rarely died outside of team wipes. He also consistently kept a node decapped or capped, and won his one-on-ones (as he should, because the celestial signet build can’t really lose to any viable builds).
What lost Abjured that series is bad rotations and other people losing one-on-ones they shouldn’t have lost.
^^this actually, i think Nos did really well. oRNG is just really good at supporting each other and in team fights, they move like one, very nice to watch. Abjured should have probably avoided big team fights more.

what thief needs is atm bit better surivival, some buffing to weapon sets besides dp and few nerfs to other classes
why?
1. condis are extremely easy to apply (persistent aoe, auto attacks etc.)
2. condis are hard to mitiagte (ignore armor/toughness, need multiple condi removals which most classes can’t run w/o making entire build unviable)
3. most condis have second controlling effects (slow, no control over character, reduce healing etc.)
4. burning got overbuffed and does often more dmg than direct dmg spells while being one of the easiest condi to apply

pvp was in bad state since launch and improved only very slowly andis still far from anything decent
w/o healthy pvp system/class balance you will just have players quit pvp, w/o players there is no pvp community -> no teams -> no competition

Of what? Again thinking of it to much as “these used to be traits”. It’s not about that. These traits were removed from the game and the skills were buffed to be viable because you shouldn’t have had to trait for it.
Reduced glamour recharge rate – other than portal which was over nerfed due to a WvW renderin issue every other skill in this category is rarely taken and is usually underwhelming. The c/d reduction doesn’t even make them worth taking but if you want a c/d reduction on “insert bad skill that you’d never take anyways” then go for it.
Phantasmal damage boost – phantasms had to be buffed to match the damage change post patch. This is like any other pet change in game that had ever occurred. Revert this and please revert every pet or summon buff.
Manipulation range – Blink being 1200 range like every other non damaging blink in game? And the fact things like AT being 900 range is just bad design on an already meh skill.
Illusionary Persona: Shattering illusions creates the shatter effect on you as well. – should have never been a trait to begin with… It’s like a thief needing to trait for an item to be stolen when stealing.
Illusionary Elasticity: Bouncing attacks have one additional bounce. – staff should have always bounced that many times, GS bounce was something to trait for and was removed.
Protective Mantras: Gain extra armor when you cast a mantra – as if anyone cares.
4 are worth while 2 of which makes them in line with the rest of the game. One changes the class mechanic, and other is strait buff that keeps the damage in line with other builds. I don’t see what there is here that others could possibly need? Other than maybe just a 15% dmg buff on indirect damage. Oh wait Condis lol.
Nothing here is that different from other professions. We just don’t need to trait for our class mechanic to be useful anymore.
Mesmer’s current meta placement is only due to changes to some spec options players are not used to fighting around. This is separate from what was made baseline and if people are coming here thinking the baseline vales are what makes mes strong now are just ignorant and lacking game sense. (Not @ Cynz)
But if people want to make it a numbers game “mes gets 3 worth while traits base line /thread”
honestly, same could be said about other classes though
take thief as an example: trickery been MUST have for how many years? because otherwise steal is very weak, it is just short distance port on relative long cd with if you are lucky somehow decent stolen spell…. you actually need entire traitline to make it useful
i am not saying that baseline traits from mes is what made them so strong but i think they are one of the reasons combined with other changes
for example 15% phant dmg shouldn’t be baseline
so, either threat other classes like mes and give them “necessary” traits baseline (which would lead to more power creep and would be wrong) or revert some changes to mes to tone them down (and ofc other classes, cough eles)

Really, how much do we have to ask for it. Players afk at spawn point on purpose, troll teammates and verbally harass them. Why is this ok?

You can argue semantics all you want. Fact is mes was in a poor spot in mid to high tier regardless of context. Even supposed being a good dueling class was naturally countered by builds optimal for team play.
The traits added were not a big deal, everyone looks at it as “old traits being baseline” when in fact they are strait buffs to underwhelming skills majority of which are not even related to ANY meta.
The only one worth arguing about for sPvP is Illusionary persona. But frankly it was stated many times before release that mesmer was rough around the edges and needed fixing and tweaking, and that is after the bugs that still exist and plague the profession 3 years later. As such the default class mechanic was super clunky until you max the illusion tree. The buff in itself however would be like if Necro’s old DS pre rework was a trait and made baseline.
At the end of the day counting baseline traits stemming from the patch is stupid. Mesmer got these changes because they should have been this way since release. If we had a proper PTR or if there was more time leading up to release its likely these traits would have been scrapped and made baseline in development after compairing the classes, and the base usefullness of each utility.
