You know, Game Development 101; Useability Test, Alpha Test, Beta Test, then implement.
I thought it was implement, revert, apologize, bring back when no one is looking, fix?
With the kittenty loottables 300 spartans still wouldnt get a single precursor from 300,000 persians, so you better believe they want that MF.
Ladders would assume far, far more complicated castles. Current ones are too simplistic for ladders, as soon as you get on a wall you’re 5 seconds away from the tower lord.
If they actually looked like a medieval castle with a 3x taller wall and towers along that wall as well as the keep being 5x larger, maybe ladders would work
My 3 quick changes:
A door can only be hurt by 5 players at once. More players do nothing. PvDoor is still needed as an option to avoid the feeling of being rich wins, ie buying siege. In turn, players do a bit more damage to a door than now (a single flame ram would still be faster)
Siege cannot be built on structures unless its a predefined upgrade (oil, cannon, etc). To balance this, more upgrades would be added, including static arrowcarts, ballistas and even catapults
Arrowcarts and ballista now work exactly like the other siege with slow aim, power and arch, normalizing the siege system to a single mode of control
End of an arrowcart era.
It should be time gated so there is some meaning to specializing in something, instead of rich player = master of all. Respec every season or every reset makes sense.
Then what if a player actually change their class specialty?
We can respec for 3 kitten silvers, changing between bunkers, dps, cc support, whatever.
Why shouldnt we be able to change our WvW mastery to match when we change our build?
Maybe a dps build want various siege masteries and building, as they will stay in the back. Maybe a bunker want a bunch of defensive masteries. And when a bunker change to dps for 3 kitten silvers… He’s stuck with useless masteries.
Its not rocket science, Anet. Its 3 kitten silvers worth of logic.
ahah, in that case i would suspect servers from the top league would purposely lose weeks prior to the update, in a hope that they will get into the lower league, so that they can win in the lower league, rather than losing every weeks in the top league…
have your team thought about that ?
Have they thought of anything?
Without balanced servers, its impossible for WvW to be competetive. Its really quite simple:
- The most populated servers will win because of PvErs when the other servers are low on population. Just cap everything in sight without ever engaging players. This is the only argument from ANET I understand – give all PvE players the reward as well, its fair.
- Then comes the sandwiched servers which stand no chance against the coverage of high pop servers, yet faceroll the tiers lower than them. Where are they going to go? They can never win. They can never loose and drop in the league. They’re stuck unless everyone just abandon the server.
- The server on the bottom of the top tier will easily move to the top of the lower tier, thus getting the reward. Because after all, why loose when you can win? They dont stand a chance in the top league.
- Thus, the lower tier stand no chance of actually winning anything because the middle ranked servers will keep bouncing up and down.
- People will transfer just to grief the opposition, since they still get the loot and can do real spy work now. Players just observing the opposing server on different accounts? Lawl. Introduce the Saboteur as a real class instead. It might even be fun.
In short, the WvW league is going to feel pointless except for 2 servers which will /laugh at everyone. Its quite obvious that ANET wants to take a stick and shove it into a bee hive just for fun. Its going to be hell for decently stabilized servers.
Besides, dont we already have a “league” in place? 3 servers meet each week! Winner gets some free loot! End of story, everyone is happy and it is as it should have been from the bloody start of the game! What where you thinking?!
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
I’ m a player from Seafarer’s Rest…our population is only “high” so the cost to transfer to sfr is only 1k gem wich isn’ t much…we have the possibility to win but with queues lasting more than 3 hours because of meta-achievment/rewards/transferring players the chances will go down to 0%…it’ s simply impossible to play in wvw when none of your server can actually enter the maps.
Alas, the non-existing zergs that match Vizunah are everywhere. Its like an overpopulated ghosttown!
Wait what?
Ganking in 7 on 1 people is not most honorable thing but it’s part of wvw and I’m OK with that but you really had to /laugh?
5 minutes later, had a water combat duel against one Seafarer guy, same guys came and had to interrupt it… Really?
Pride and Prejudice and Ponies, I think you can easily remove the word “Pride” from your name.
Maybe they where so happy that they finally got a kill?
When I logged out just now Piken was still outnumbered in vizunah border while both vizunah and sfr had 40+ zergs.
But hey at least its no repair costs. I have been running solo into large groups half the day just for laughs. I wish we could do a laugh emote when we are dead. But I suppose it would look awkward. Its amusing to watch people flee every time they are alone, but as soon as 3 more come behind them they suddenly muster enough courage to fight.
All those bronze invaders, so afraid to die alone.
I am a resident of Piken Square and unfortunetly, we’re totally screwed. If we end up in the top league – this week we’re only facing #1 and #2 in the rankings – we have nowhere near the coverage to actually win and the worse we loose, the less players are interested in joining WvW. If we end up in the middle league, we will quickly advance to the top league because in contrast the middle ranked usually dont stand a chance. Even worse is staying there and faceroll every week by having no interesting opposition, while all the kiddies flood WvW for easy points.
Hm, guess ANET really doesnt like us playing just for fun, now it has to be a contest for loot as well.
Every time I look at the armor lists when deciding on new sets to try out, I always see tribal and go “that’s perfect! Now lets look where you can get it… awwwwwww…”. Every. Single. Time.
Well it only gets worse the less people that play Mesmers.
Personally I dont give a rats kitten what other people think I should have as spec. I dont really see the pressure either – If I run with a commander that is backed by a guild (be it 5 or 20 people) I expect them to handle detailed tactics with veil and portal. And if its a random zerg with a solo commander, I dont expect him to use veil or portal anyway because he cant control it. If I run with my own guild, of course I’m willing to give up a little skills. I am their Mesmer after all and its alot of fun when they demand something more than just pushing 1.
Either way, only Theives, Rangers and Engineers are spared from this, incidently the 3 least usefull classes in WvW.
Guardians are pressured into a support role with stability, CC and heals. Necros are pushed into AoE murder machines. Warriors are hammerstunbots or gtfo. Elementalists only use is static field.
No one expect anything from a Thief and dead Rangers are more mourned by their pets than other players. Engineers… Well I forget what Engineers do on the battlefield. Engineer stuff I suppose?
You can have more than 3 up. If you shatter, you can spam new illusions before the old illusions run and detonate.
You cant have 4 stable illusion up at the same time though.
kitten I should have taken a pic of the match yesterday.
Team 1: 5 Theives and 1 Guardian
Team 2: 6 Mesmers
Team 2 lost. Badly. O.o
Sorry but the music choice is one of the most horrible things I have ever heard. It sounds like a goat being tortured. I have to go listen to some TSFH just to forget about it forever.
I think full dire is going to be problematic, since so much condition procs is based on crit chance. Maybe dire armor and earrings/rings, rabit amulet/back and weapons?
Unfortunetly I can never get a trait setup to work decently with condition tanking. 0/0/20/20/30 is good for confusion glamour spec, but it just leaves so much to be desired. 0/0/30/30/10 can get some good condition traits and slap on mantra healing, but will be lacking in actually applying them to groups and miss the mantra cd. 0/30/20/20/0 can increase your roaming capabilities by alot due to evasive traits and better crits, but its going to suck for group condition damage.
@OP: Does this look girly?
I’d hit it.
If you are the only Mesmer then its glamour focus you want. The “ideal” way to go about this is relative. Most people would probably say condition damage and confusion glamour specced, personally I prefer raw damage with just the glamour cooldown traited. Having X/X/30/30/X gives lots of survivability and flexibility in terms of traits, but its not really required. X/X/20/20/X leave room for 30 in a tree of your choosing. It really depend on what you want in the end. You could go healing mantras (gate healbot, heh) but then you want at least X/X/20/30/X due to the glamour and mantra trait colliding. Just as an example.
For gear, I say power/toughness/vitality armor/weapons + Ascended power/toughness/precision and power/toughness/crit damage trinkets is the most potent combo for raw damage, especially if you add 30 points in the precision tree. Mostly Rabid with some vitality thrown in if you go for condition damage I suppose, not that into condition.
Blink is not the ideal stun breaker – staff 2 is. But you can never have enough stun breakers. I use blink to quickly reach the commander if we get separated in a zerg.
Whenever I look at my Mesmer I think “Man, that’s just so manly! And faaaaaaabulouuuuuuus!!!”
15-30 people mean you should have at least 2-5 Mesmers, so there’s really no point in arguing what you must have. Skills can be spread out. It also depends on the group itself. Many groups dont care about the fancy portal tactics or hiding mesmers, its more slam-your-head-against-a-door-and-hope-the-enemy-comes kind of thing.
So for all your things listed:
a focus (for pulls and swiftness) – Since the pull nerf its pretty useless for that. Only use for focus now is for a reflection based Mesmer. Groups dont want the swiftness from focus.
a torch (for hiding in keeps) – Boring tactic
Veil – A group can usually only coordinate 2-3 veils so keep that it mind.
Null Field – Important in any group vs group situation, yes
Portal – Only have on alternate skill standby unless the commander is horny for portals. Better to replace with say Feedback for example.
Time Warp (or occasionally Mass Invis?) – If its a 10 man group MI can actually be pretty good. 30, not so much. TW should be the skill that you revert to if you never see a use for MI.
What’s more important is that you need to stay alive. You cannot go down when someone sneeze at you, it is simply not acceptable in group combat. 1500+ toughness/vitality is pretty much mandatory in any WvW build. Hell I find my 2100/1600 toughness/vitality WvW gear lacking in stamina sometimes. This is even more important than the skills you use. A player without the ability to stay up is useless to the group as he is a revive magnet. Note that I am talking from a melee paintrain perspective, your guild design may vary.
Using the staff is quite logical if you think about it.
5, 4, 3, 2, dodge, shatter.
And if they stun… 2, 3, 4, 5, dodge, shatter.
Basicly, slam your head into your keyboard, roll it around to either side and hope the Thief die before you do.
Outside of that, most gaming keyboards, in addition to offering macros (against TOS), will also let you program specific keys into their macro keys which can be done within guidelines.
One very useful example is to program several keys to be “left click” and then roll multiple fingers over those keys to rapidly click your mouse. You’re still in “one button, one function” territory, but you’re using multiple fingers to, say, open your karma or drink your liquor.
And so does Autohotkey with any keyboard – you can program your keys to do basicly anything. No need for a pseudo “gaming” keyboard using rub… rubb… mem… Ah kitten I cant even bring myself to say it again. You know, the kittening obsolete switches in this kittener of a keyboard.
What…
I dont even…
Apex? Anti ghosting? Isnt that… membrane? But that’s like… like…
Rubber dome switches?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!
That is not a gaming keyboard. That… thing… is an abomination that should be brought out in the backyard and beaten to death with a Steelseries 7G.
I had the infinite tonic before even getting the 7 zone achievement?
You dont need to do all 13. As above said, look at the daily. And dont forget to complete Vorrp/Playground.
They havent done it so far, so I doubt they will ever do it.
Personally, I have two sets of armour for WvW:
Berserkers/Knights mix with Centaur
Soldiers with Melandru
The first give perma-swiftness when roaming (traited mantra stack it), the other I use for zerging. It also allow me to equip the GS, which I think is the superior roamer weapon (though I always miss reflective Focus in larger groups).
So work with the kittenty non-speed you have and make a set with Centaur. Even if you use Ether Feast as heal that’s still about the same speed as a Focus, so you can slot that Sword/Sword if you want.
Also, while some people can make it work, I’d suggest against using either GS or Focus in tpvp. I find they underperform verse the alternatives. GS is especially weak in a 1v1 imo.
1v1 doesnt really matter though – your goal is to win the round, not loose it by using your uber dueling skills. Personally I find the GS a strong enough 1v1 weapon. A Mesmer at max engagement range is the most dangerous Mesmer. Sword is a good and fun weapon but it pretty much require a more bunker type build in the current meta. Going CQB against a well condition/fear Necro is a rather bad idea for most people.
Lol since when does solo join even matter? You can join as a chair and still do good.
I have been able to dominate solo games with my Mesmer – as the lowest ranked player on the team, haha. Of course its more of the cookiecutter OP builds than random sPvP. But that’s not really a suprise, you just have to play more cautiously. As the above say, winning or loosing is not so much skill as its aboutt sheer dumb luck with the team composition (and obvious imbalances in numbers)
I play a greatsword/staff mantra berserker build in PvP and its fairly easy to find a place on the battlefield as a backline support burster. It doesnt have the stamina to bunker on a point, but played well it can decide battles in a couple of seconds. Thieves arent rally that much of a threat (staff for defensive in the initial strikes then burst with the greatsword and watch them flee), but the builds nemesis is stunlock warriors. Doesnt work great with channeling mantras, lol.
Make a build that doesnt use any of the weapon traits (just build what you feel like)
Carry all those weapon combos and swap between them, finding a fun compromise.
Adapt the build to make use of the weapon traits you wish you to have so thakittens even more powerful.
Problem solved.
I would go with sword/torch scepter/focus in WvW if I’m forced. Unfortunetly I cannot stop going back to the hunter-killer Greatsword. Scepter is totally worthless for killing stuff and sword wont help when your iLeap warp you 10m in the opposite direction of where you wanted to go.
Your MF% will not change (much if at all) they are removing MF from gear and putting it as permanent/comsumable bonuses account wide.
Perhaps but what happen to armor stats? If they just remove it explorers gear will be rendered completely usuless having 33% less stats. It might as well be removed from the game. Which of course create a whole bunch of issues with your current gear.
I seriously hope Anet will give us more detailed information on what’s going to happen with current items/gear/weapons using MF. If they do another karma jug mistake despite making the promise to inform the community about changes like this, I will be very disappointed.
It has to be an infusion slot in ADDITION to the sigil slot on ascended weapons. You cant exactly compare with existing ascended stuff – there are no existing ascended weapons. Trinkets have the same stats as exotics with jewels plus the infusion slot. You dont “loose” anything there.
I seriously cant imagine they would remove the sigil slot. That’s not a nerf – that’s gutting it.
… If anything Legendaries should be able to freely choose between any existing sigil, just like with the stats ^^
You cant actually do auto attack at the same time as any other skill unless its instant (which cant be interrupted anyway), you always end up performing a single skill, be it auto or any other. So of course it count.
Unless you are talking about Anti-Aircraft guns. Its not skill, its just OP.
Its just part of the zerg mentality. 90% of all defensive situations are impossible and thus pointless. The other 10% is often way to easy. There is no balance here.
Leaving people behind to actually defend also take a certain kind of people. In my experience, Germans. See that abandoned keep that no one has touched for 2 hours? Nope its got 10 manned arrowcarts and 20+ people suddenly running around on the walls. It always remind me of historical films where people run out of hidden bunkers.
Its really quite simple – you’re downscaled, mobs are upscaled. The difference increase the lower the level is. Its not really that you’re weak, its that the mobs are that much stronger compared to someone of the same level. At 80, we’re used to fighting 82+ upscaled mobs. Events arent even remotely as hard as they should be at 80…
Considering there are like… 3… people left that maybe does Tequila due to everyone else foaming at the mouth while killing aetherblade champs, how should it be made harder? 3 step event that’s never going to be finished, ever?
Nah, he is a low level boss and should be decently simple to kill. It still take ALOT of time to get his HP down when killing him solo. Believe me, I’ve tried and got tired of it
I’m sure that the weak males are balanced by twisted robotic females dying with their sexy buttocks up in the air. What you havent noticed? Maybe its just me.
Well its not entirely true thakittens a tiny difference – Ascended has different setups to the stats than exotics. Which is very powerfull for some builds.
But as always, its mostly just the builds. When a player rolls you its more likely than not that he was the counter to your specific build, rather than being a “good player” or wearing “superior gear”. A berserker Thief stealth bursting a berserker anything is a prime example. WvW is RNG.
You’ll have to explain to me why most lodestones and other commodities have fallen in price by 30-50% with all this inflation.
I made more Cores/Lodestones in the last week, than I made within the last 6 months.
Guess that is the reason.
Oh it balances out since rare/ectos have gone up by 30-50% (or 100% in some cases).
Champ bags give 99.9% greens and no one is farming guaranteed yellows anymore, sigh… Not even simple temples are open. Hell the pavilion isnt even farmed anymore, lol, its gone the way of Karka island.
When I found out that ESO was going to be subscription based it brought a major smile to my face.
Lol they still havent changed their mind?
ESO was questionable from the start (being based on the mediocre SWTOR engine and all) but a subscription fee pretty much seal the deal – its going to fail just like every other game has unless its a really, really, really good game. Which I seriously doubt it is.
Bah! Subscription fees remain the largest money scam in gaming history. You dont pay to get “quality” content. You pay for the possibility to get “quality” content. And people think ingame RNG is bad…
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
I would say that mesmer is definitely underperforming at the moment..
Nope. Its the condition meta that’s overperforming, that’s all.
The Mesmer is in no way a weak class, not in terms of defensive or offensive power. Its not even weak for condition removal, you have plenty of options. Problem is there is still no way to keep up with say a condition necro. Cleanse 5 conditions, you’ll still have 5 more up in 1 sec and a 10s chainfear to look forward to. Offensive conditions arent weak its just very… random.
The reason why they are useless in organized PvP is because:
- There are better condition classes that can spec for alot more survival while keeping offensive strength (Necro, Ranger, Engineer)
- There are better troll classes when you really want that dps burst (Thief)
- There are far better bunkers when they need to stay on a point (Guardian/Warrior)
- Hell even the entire design of PvP is against the Mesmer, because the way to win is to stay on a point and a Mesmer need to move around alot to win. 2x the capping radius and suddenly evasive classes would be able to at least contest/defend points reliably.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Change the scepter to a shortrange 3 target AoE shotgun attack (similar to guardian staff) that give confusion or torment every third strike and I’ll be happy. No kitten clones on auto-attack, that’s just kittened. Maybe make it pop a clone at the end of the channel for 3.
There’s nothing that’s going to fix the auto-attack short of a complete replacement.
My question is, is there anywhere where this kind of things happen all the time? If I could, I would just do 1v1’s or 2v2’s all day.
Indeed there is.
Its called sPvP/tPvP.
The scepter have no advantages since its crap no matter how pretty a skin you put in it.
IMO its really quite simple – dont think on it yet. You dont have to decide. Do the generic gifts common to all legendaries (fortune/mastery), see what kind of material stocks you have. Keep in mind thakittens 1200g+ worth of materials in total.
Cost of the precursor is a factor yes… But it should not decide what you do in the end.
Yesterday was horrible lag across all zones. Running with 30 other people on a border, around 3 DCed every 5 minute. Many had severe lag – it took me 10 seconds to change skills out of combat. In combat there where 5s+ skill lag. Porting back to spawn? Three freakin minutes before it reacted!!!!.
It was completely unplayable.
I have 3/5 in the achievement and have done a total of 3 invasion events – 2 in home server (both successfull), 1 in overflow (failed).
So they do count for me…
It would be if we could do that when we want to. As it is, we can not, since we need to wait on a ridiculously long cooldown for a measly five minutes of “uniqueness”.
Really, what is the problem with being able to use it for as long as you like? Does it break the game in any way?
You mean wait 30 minutes to look like what 95% of the GW2 population look like in a couple of days? The unique horror!
Well it would still be hilarious to see a 5 minute watchknight assault in WvW. Good luck figuring out which character is which class at a glance.
Lord Faren is Batman. He is wealthy and fell down a dark hole. Fits the profile to the letter.
Why is she alone? The final boss event itself should be an all out battle with Scarlet and hundreds of minions. 5 blimps dropping aetherblade, robot minions constantly portaling in while Scarlet is in the center of it all.
Now its just “Oh you killed my 5000 man army?! I’ll just go and kill you myself, I cannot be defea- ooops I died in 5 seconds.”.
Name me one encounter where non-berserker is optimal.
Going alone into 15 veterans because everyone else is playing kittenty berserkers and cant handle them unless they got backup from at least 20 other players, so they stand around and try to stare the mobs to death?
I should make a youtube video of my invasion events solo charges, lol.
I think this is becoming more of an issue now because these constant events are giving players 10g + per hour.
Yes its an issue as its draining general WvW population, but WvWers can PvE too. Spend 2 days on PvE (any activity, dungeons, fractals, invasions, Orr farming) and you have enough gold to fund your WvW activities for a month. Is that really such a horrible thing?
I dont think Anet has ever wanted us to ONLY play PvE or ONLY play WvW or ONLY play sPvP. It’d be boring fast because neither part is really all that spectacular on its own. At least for me its the complete package that’s appealing and keep me coming back.
