^ Sure thing man, permanent trait buffs and regen without even needing to maintain adrenalin!
C’mon TheGuy, don’t get my hopes up like this…
Never understood why Elementalists get a 60% attunement swap CD reduction almost a game breaking buff when combined with Elemental Attunement, and what do we get? +3% Burst Damage… We never stood a chance.
I reckon get rid of it completely, crit damage is for multiplying our damage, not this nonsense. We should have a similar trait line buff as the Elementslist:
1% is not far enough, +2% Burst skill CD reduction for each point.
This combined with a reworked adrenalin system (adding F2-F4) and then maybe, just maybe we will see Warriors competing against the best..
Sorry but… Crit Damage does not go in Defence, it is a complete contradiction. If a Warrior wants to go all damage then let them, also a Warrior wanting to bunker up (possibly an option in the future) now has unnecessary crit damage or some easily exploitable Stun → Crit nonsense.
We don’t need to be able to build adrenaline faster. Between embrace the pain and furious, we have enough ways. That’s without talking utilities.
We don’t need to keep up with how fast mesmers spawn clones. Just make warrior viable on itself, not a counter.
We’re not trying to be a counter, we’re trying to be balanced.
F2 – Instant Cast – Wipes two conditions for every bar of adrenalin stored.
F3 – Instant Cast – Steadily depletes your stored adrenalin (full adrenalin depleted in 6 seconds, unable to replenish lost adrenalin during this time) during which all critical hits remove a boon. Die in a hole bunkers….
F4 – idk… Summon that kittening banner into my hands?
I forgot to ask before… What is err.. Brawn? That went way over my head.
Also I do think the final Discipline tree is a little bit rough. In team fights conditions are thrown everywhere so you can almost secure yourself +20% extra damage. Perhaps a +10% damage increase to foes with a specific condition/s like cripple/chill/immob? Makes sense to hit a non/slow moving target a little bit harder :/
(edited by Dolan.3071)
As usual, loving these ideas Daecollo.
However… 10% damage reduction almost all the time is way too good to be a 5 point minor, 25 would be more appropriate. For the 25 point it should be less damage for every boon we have to tie in with Boon Duration.
For the 15 point Discipline trait it would need an internal cooldown, with Whirling Axe and a bit of luck we could stack more confusion than a Mesmer…
Love the rest.
/my2cents
Hammer is a must in WvW. Ideally you would replace GS with the Hammer and have Sword-Warhorn or Shield for your other set. Currently Savage Leap is our fastest gap closer, lets you get in nice and close to follow up with some CC from the Hammer, also Sword’s F1 ability very much helps in locking down pesky kiters. Warhorn and Shield both bring some nice utility.
But if you’re insistent on being another useless GS Warrior then please have a ranged weapon. If you get cripple or chilled you will be hitting nothing but air no matter what you do. Retreating to a ranged set can keep you in the fight for a little bit longer, though you’re kind of doomed already by having that horrid weapon :]
Hahaha Greataxe, wouldn’t that be interesting.
Greatsword, Axe-Shield/Warhorn/Mace take your pick of offhand.
Traits are Slashing Power from Power Tree, Forceful Greatsword from Precision, Empowered from Vitality, and the minor trait Fast Hands from Discipline. Spend the other 5 points wherever you want, might I recommend more into Discipline to get yourself Sweet Revenge. Though you can drop Slashing Power and get either Healing Shouts or Banners if you’re feeling too squishy.
Full Berserker gear, Ruby orbs as runes for max DPS, or something like Lyssa also work well. Good luck!
^ Some solid material in there.
Honestly general PvE is so easy you could do it solo with almost any build, in a group of 3 you won’t have any trouble whatsoever (unless you stumble into some group events.)
We don’t have AoE persay (very limited effectiveness on the longbow.) What we do have is glorious cleave damage with our melee weapons. We can hit 3 targets at once with the exception of Whirlwind on the Greatsword (technically only 3 at a time but you’re hitting enemies at different times during the attack) and Whirling Axe which has the same principal, I think it hits 5 at a time.
Pure damage spec for levelling – Power, Precision with Deep strike trait clad in signets. Though if you’re looking for a little more team play with the Ele and Mesmer then it may well be worth going more along the lines of a shout orientated build (banners are too clunky for the fast paced activity of open world PvE.)
Also look at which attacks are combo finishers, as Ele and Mesmer can lay down numerous Combo Fields. For instance when the target gets a giant purple bubble over it, that’s the Mesmer’s handiwork and laying down Whirl Finishers such as Cyclone Axe can stack confusion on your foe, I’m fairly certain that’s right… Learning to look for combo fields and timing your finishers is a rare and valuable skill to have, as many dungeon groups just spam their abilities with little notice of the possible combos they could be doing.
A few points is that Greatsword 100 Blades is your best damage dealer, however it’s auto attack (#1) skill is very weak compared to that of the Mainhand Axe. So having the minor trait Fast Hands in the Discipline Tree can give you a free flowing cycle between 100 Blades and the Axe for optimal damage. There’s a few more tricks but then where’s the fun in learning if you’re told everything :P
Haha Asura if you’re looking for a competitive edge in PvP/WvW, minimum height clad in black armour. Players won’t even see you coming let alone that Evis/Kill Shot. But Asura are butt ugly IMO, although their 100b looks sweet as.
But yeah backing Male Charr, that roar when they use Signet of Rage is almost a rallying cry.
^ Seconded. Similar to Mesmers only replace clones with Adrenalin. Each F1 button has a separate cooldown. Also we should be able to build adrenalin quicker to keep up with how fast Mesmers can spawn clones.
This is how lazy the people working on Warrior are, to not even proof read their non-existent bug fixes… I suppose this explains why Warrior is in its current state…
Zerker gear is only halfway there. Proper traiting, runes (ruby orbs) and sigils (Sigil of night and/or the target specific sigil) and weapon cycle can almost double your damage output from just the Zerker gear…
But ultimately yes. Until dungeon difficulty gets jacked up it can all be breezed through in Zerker gear. Though its not a bad idea to have your knights set for your first few runs of a new dungeon. Learning which attack to dodge the hard way can be a little more costly in Zerker gear….
(edited by Dolan.3071)
Almost every Warrior has Fast Hands for this exact reason. Plus who doesn’t like a bit of crit damage? Oh and don’t forget +1% burst damage! Oooohhhhh yeah now we’re talking big league stuff, may the other classes quiver in their jocks at our might…
What are you talking about? You have two mobile strike abilities on your GS, 3 on your axe/shield and a bulls charge. That gives you 6 immobilize removers. There is no point in cleansing immob and cripple? Then you sit back with your rifle/signet warrior and get kitten on?
Let me sum up your previous replies:
You are against having banner buffs being mobile because a banner on your back clashes with your outfit.
You think signets are great.
You think GS is used for 100b mainly.
You think since a condition can be applied repeatedly that you should not fight against it? I guess condition removal/stun breakers are just a silly concept, too.
You use a rifle. Hows that going with a thief or a melee warrior drowning your face with kitten?
You think signet of might with a cc interrupts blocking -if you knew the class you’d know that it doesn’t-. I think pretending that something is right without knowing if it actually works is called theory crafting which you just did.
You are allowed to have an opinion but don’t think that that means it’s right.
Everyone should check this guys posts and see the multiple replies correcting him/making fun of him. You’d think that some ppl get embarrassed sooner or later.
Keep posting. We need the entertainment.
Never go full kitten…
I strongly recommend you actually read my posts before incorrectly quoting them back to me.
My biff with toting a banner around is purely aesthetic, the concept sure as hell beats what we’ve got now though. However I’ve already posted a much simpler alternative to make them mobile, which you would know if you had actually read it.
Please guide me to where I said Signets are great. Most Signets are rubbish, and time is being wasted on buffing them when other skills are still buggy.
The warriors trying to hit me with 100b is why I think that’s what people use it for, what else does it have going for it? A weak auto attack, even worse Burst skill and the buggiest Rush skill in the game? Granted Whirlwind is semi-decent if you’re not hit with cripple/chill…
Where did I mention immobilise? I said cripple and chill, this is all coming back to your literacy skills. To blow my cleanses when all I’ve got is cripple or chill? No thanks, I’d rather save it for the 6 hour long poison that someone is going to drop on me when I want to heal.
I usually have a ranged set on me yes, is this a crime now? The number of braindead all melee warriors I’ve put down is astounding, you guys are begging to be kited. Not to mention rifle has a cripple/immobilise and a strong knockback. Volley and feigning a Kill Shot are good ways to make people burn their evades. That is how you kite.
Whilst I am usually spread across a few threads at once I’m almost certain I haven’t even mentioned Signet of Might recently.
Now if you’re done with pulling nonsense out of your kitten and being unnecessarily aggressive might we have a mature conversation?
Although… You use Bull’s Rush… LOOOOOOL.
This Fenrir guy has quoted and disagreed with every post I’ve made in the past 24 hours. I’m not sure if he’s trolling, but I still agree with you 100%. It’s hard to find another warrior who understands the importance of mobility and how lackluster the greatsword actually becomes when facing far greater odds when most other classes will outdo a warrior simply due to balance issues.
Haha he’s usually not too bad, most warriors just get a bit of separation anxiety at the thought of parting with their Greatsword…. And the unfortunate whining about it’s lackluster in PvP/WvW will lead to it getting wrecked as far as PvE goes, but hey, what can you do?
My god just stop posting.
GS is for mobility and for evades/kiting as someone posted. Only new comers use GS for 100b mainly.
Terrible replies..just..terrible..
In fairy tale land where unicorns fart rainbows and you never get crippled or chilled ever, sure, GS is pretty mobile. In the game I play those conditions get thrown around so regularly there’s rarely any point in cleansing them. Also the definition of ‘kiting’ has changed significantly in the past few hours if you can now do this with a melee weapon…
Savage Leap > Rush and Whirlwind put together if we’re talking about mobility here…. But I fear my words might be wasted on a theory crafter who has yet to see the battlefield.
A bright green flag above my head all the time would totally ruin the look I was going for
The planting them on the ground thing is good as it is, they just need to be either 1) picked up on the fly or 2) summonable to your hands by pressing the utility skill again.
I’m not sure if your a funny troll or a LARPer..
I put a lot of effort into my characters’ looks, if I could customise the banner colour? Maybe. But a bright green flag does not go with black and white armour. God people where is your sense of fashion!?
I sincerely hope this ‘Greatsword Only’ attitude is being purely directed at PvE, if not then… I’ve truly lost all faith in the Warrior community.
A Greatsword warrior is a free kill, I thought this was common knowledge by this point?Say that, to this guy: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/WvW-Warrior-Commentary-Hammer-GS/first#post2217328
Some people like to play the warrior like a warrior and go melee not staying in the back of their team spaming arrows or gun shots.
Because Greatsword is our only melee weapon…
/facepalmYou had a lot of time to get a far better answer and you come with this… you dissapointed me.
I run axe/axe and close-quarters longbow. I approve of Dolan’s statement.
OMG you approve it! , this is BIG… this uknown guy approves it… THIS IS kittenING SERIOUS!
Jokes aside…
So you are telling me you agreed with the actitude that we should ignore Great Sword problems, just because we have another weapons at our dispossal?, because this is what this guy its preaching and its really stupid, it like saying, “oh whatever we should not care about 1 of our children we have another one, he can die”…
So before you “approve” with the authority of “no one cares” you should study well what are you talking about.
Different weapons are made for different situations. Rifle is for strong single target damage, bow for AoE damage, shield is for blocking, you see where I’m going with this? Greatsword excels at obliterating stationary targets. But surprisingly other players don’t stand still. It does its job well, arguing that it can’t land it’s full damage burst on a moving target is like arguing that the shield can’t shoot laser beams, it’s not meant to! Understand this and move on, the sooner you move onto Axe or Sword the better off you will be.
I sincerely hope this ‘Greatsword Only’ attitude is being purely directed at PvE, if not then… I’ve truly lost all faith in the Warrior community.

This is not a beauty contest.
Actually in PvE, it kinda is.
Change #5 to ‘Throw’ – The same as Plant only you y’know, throw it somewhere instead of putting it at your feet. Instant cast, no kittening around. Could even be trained to include knockdown and damage if it collects anyone along the way/within the vicinity of where it lands.

All I can imagine now is warriors slinging around swords on chains Kratos style!
^ good for CoF farming and if you have a strong team. A bad pug that make battles carry on for too long and you’ll probably go down. Probably spend a bit of time in knights gear to get back into the swing of things and learn any new encounters before jumping into the deep end of berserkers gear.
Barbaric pants and boots, gladiator chestpiece and shoulders, no helmet, pick your own gloves (I went with CoF.) A couple minutes setting up preview from the trading post will prove this is the most revealing you can get for heavy armour.
^ I think you’ve got it back to front, we have relatively good base stats but lack utility, which we have to make up for, by y’know, using utilities. You are a walking loot bag with no means of doing absolutely anything if you get focused, or even immobilised…
Don’t be silly, only OP classes are allowed long lasting Reflect Projectiles. Also giving a primarily melee class an ability to protect ourselves from ranged attack is completely unfair, other classes might have to do more than #1 us to death in a strafing motion.
Do what you will to it, a transformation will never beat Signet of Rage, nor the utility of Warbanner.
I wonder if people will ever stop treating PvP as PvE, thinking they can just spam 2 until they win. There are other weapons out there….
Is this where I put my formal application in? I think it is, so here goes.
I think I could really be of use if someone would take me under their wing. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I think I could really do some good as a Ranger’s Pet. I’ve gotten pretty good at chasing the heels of opponents over the years, and I’m pretty good at listening as I’m used to people telling me when and where to swing my Hammer. I’ve helped heaps of people get kills! I’m usually ignored by others as they go for the real threat, so I think I’d make a perfect candidate! Though honestly I would love to be able to limp back to my owner rather than eat a flag.
My previous work experience? Oh this one time I knocked this Asura down! Well not ‘down’ down, he got back up again, but he was lying on the ground for a good two seconds! Wow I’m really not selling myself too well here. Look I know I probably don’t hit as hard as ‘Hawky’ or can take as many hits as ‘Grylls’, but if you adopt a Warrior you’re making Tyria a better place. There are still thousands of warriors out there who are looking for a good home, for someone to look after us…
So anyway I’ll just leave my application here, give you some time to think about it.
Support the Adopt-A-Warrior foundation, helping us to find a place in PvP.
1v1 – impossible against anyone who knows what they’re doing, you might have some luck at nubstomping.
1v2 – same rule as before. Don’t underestimate just how bad other players can be.
A lowly backstab/HS thief is the go to class for thieves, so expect inexperience. You might land a good hit on the poor squishy thief. A D/P Shortbow perma stealth thief will troll you into the ground, more experienced people roll with this, your best bet is to run.
As mentioned above shatter mesmers are a little more easy as its simply the go to build for newbies, however an experienced one will utterly destroy you. Even the most braindead player running phantasm build will beat you with little effort. Who knows maybe someday we will be strong enough to dress similar to a Mesmer and be one of their phantasms, or maybe even a ranger could tame us! Though I doubt we’d ever get that ‘OP’

Fight on even ground. But seriously watch that retal, you’ll do more damage to yourself than you will to him. Kite him, time your attacks, throw weak half-hearted attacks while focussing on avoiding his. If you ever see protect and retal go down, burst him like a madman. If you never see protect go down, you’re probably not going to win no matter what you do. If he drops stability, try to CC chain him. More often than not you’re first attempt at bursting will be met with insta-heal/pulling invuln or blocks out of his arse/interrupting your burst. The odds are forever stacked against you but it can be done
The only guardians I’ve beaten have been bad ones, no one should lose with a class that good. I just ganked them with immobilisers and rapid bursting, alternating melee and ranged, doin’ da guardian dance :P
Unless it got patched I’m fairly sure the Rune of the Warrior has no effect once you’ve got Fast Hands, though this was a long time ago. Also I don’t believe that Fast Hands would contradict unlimited bursting, you use the correct burst skill to suit your needs. Throwing Eviscerates at a group of people will get you no where, however Earthshaker or Combustive Shot would definitely do the trick.
Also I sincerely hope that was sarcasm to imply that mesmers shouldn’t have shatter cool downs… Though to be honest it would encourage more shatter builds and the invincible phantasms would start to dwindle.. Still, mesmers are in need of a lot of things, a buff is not one of them.
Also Zsymon that sounds very theory crafted with little field play, take it out there and see how long you last against any semi-decent opponent. Without a team to hide behind you’ll soon feel the pain of having no escapes or sustain.
(edited by Dolan.3071)
Just guest to a server that is open? Kaineng’s CoF is never open, but somewhere one will be…
I am sure glad that players aren’t in charge of class balance.
I could chain 3 unblockable 10k kill shots in PvP in ~10s with this method just using pre-cast Signet of Fury -> Healing Surge -> Signet of Fury (-20% signet cd trait)
If people can’t dodge (or reflect, haven’t actually tried SoM on that) the most predictable attack in the history of attacks then they deserve to eat that bullet. But I find it highly unlikely you would be permitted to set off 3 before getting ganked by a bunker build that takes you down in 3 hits.
I was going to ask how you can perform the three shots in 10 seconds if Signet of Fury goes on cool down. Do you by chance mean Signet of Rage + Berserker’s Might?
Pre-casting SoR with the Berserker’s Might trait will fill your adrenalin, it lasts until you use it for the first time, then you have a minute before your adrenalin starts to drain away for every time after that.

This is why Warrior will never leave the bottom of the barrel, people are too afraid to take the step that is needed, for fear that we will become ‘OP’. Do you think anyone bothered to concern themselves with the thought when building the Mesmer? To a lesser extent Thieves and Guardians? No, they just thought “oh look this’ll be cool, to hell with class balance”
As I said before to stay true to being a Warrior and not a wannabe Guardian we need more offence not defence, our heals need a minor buff to potency/CD but thats about it.
When a warrior walks out onto the battlefield people need to acknowledge us as the DPS machine we were always meant to be. We don’t have stealth, we don’t have clones or allies of any kind, and to top it all off we have no sustain, all of which I am willing to accept if we get the DPS to compensate.
All possible Burst chains could be easily countered, if this buff ever happened you would quickly find out how other classes could nullify us.
You’re getting Earthshakered? Have stability, dodge it, blind us, spam you’re ungodly amount of evades and heals, hide in stealth, hell even just stack us on with cripple/chill and continue to kite me. Only this time there is no “free kill” label next to my name, because if I catch you, I will kill you :]
^ Because 100 Blades has been proven many times over to be the strongest DPS we have?
Every build and weapon setup will work in PvE, its that easy, the only difference is the Greatsword wielders will be dishing out a lot more damage than you are. Sword has a nice leap but staying on top of your target and keeping them locked down is rarely an issue here. From the sounds of it you’re not in Berserker’s gear either so your damage must be very sub-par, and considering damage is our only job, you’re not making a very good warrior there…. Err… No offence.
Warriors have many, many ways in which we can build our adrenalin, instantaneously even. If we invest heavily into adrenalin building we should have the power to churn out regular Burst Skills, yes I’m talking about chaining Eviscerates/Killshots/Flurries/Earthshakers. And why not? We would give up a lot trait wise to achieve a build that could do such a thing, even a utility slot and the compromisation of our best heal skill to churn out so much adrenalin.
Thieves go around doing this, their entire profession revolves around rapidly chaining attacks (a few revolved around the spamming of a select few skills) so to say that it would be OP is absurd. Warrior is in an abysmal state, I would much rather a buff to our offence before a buff to our sustain that will just make us pseudo guardians.
All I’m suggesting is the removal of the 10 second cool down after a successful Burst Skill, if we have the adrenalin, we should be allowed to use it. A middle value could be reached if the attack misses or is blocked, a minor CD at most, or even the adrenalin bar empties half/all the way so we can’t just spam it till it hits.
Thoughts?
If so which do you use?
I’ve recently been trialling different skills for my 3rd utility slot and I’m now having a hard time parting with ‘Prayer to Lyssa’. This is the one that grants a random 5 or 10 second boon to yourself (dependant on which boon you get) and a random condition to your target, all of which is on a 12 second CD. As a Zerk Warrior with +30% boon duration things like Aegis become a 13 second boon, Protection/Retaliation/Vigor are now 6.5 seconds. The number of times getting a defensive boon or landing blind/immobilise/weakness on a foe at a crucial time are now countless. Especially since Warriors have that glorious Empowered trait (increases damage for every boon on you.)
Point being, this is a very under appreciated skill. But probably the only tsk I have with it is that it is not instant cast, it is a prayer, like a shout, and should be instant. Having to stop my ‘pain train’ just for a chance to get a worthy boon/condition when I could have OMM which is instant cast :/
The idea of fixing them to your back and toting them around like a Space Marine has been thrown around quite a lot too. In this situation a unique banner skill would replace our regular F1 weapon skill.
I’m all for a Banner revamp, from being equipable to your back piece to having passive skills that occupy their utility slot after they’ve been dropped, and of course giving them an F1 ability when wielded. The possibilities are endless where we’ve got 4 unique bundles with 4 unused buttons (F1-F4)
^ no.
/15 character limit
^ awww really? I would assume the whole point of a skin is to go on any armour…
^ Shield has its own interrupt which doubles as a gap closer/leap finisher (granted a poor ranged one at that.) I’d rather have shield block on the ready against a boss fight rather than throwing CC at defiance stacks. Until I’m an expect on every single dungeon (still fairly new to HotW and Arah) it’s always nice to have an ‘oh kitten’ button to fall back on. Plus, I love my Seraph Shield
PvE, if you know the encounter you’ll know if its ranged only or requires a ranged weapon for certain parts. But most are all melee. Also whilst Whirling Axe looks cool it does less damage than axe auto attack ever will.
WvW, it depends if you’re solo or in a Zerg. As a warrior most people will just kite you so a ranged weapon isn’t a bad idea. If you’re the battering ram of a Zerg then two melee sets is fine as long as one of those is the Hammer.
(edited by Dolan.3071)
“Raaaaaah just gotta make sure I miss”
Hahahaha thanks for the laugh.
PvE – Greatsword and Axe/Shield
WvW – Hammer and Sword/Shield
PvP – who cares lol, you’re rooted anyway. I used to go Axe/Shield and Rifle to get those kittens that think they can just kite you into the ground.
It’s the total I’m fairly sure. 8 hits resulting in a total of 1624. But don’t look at the tooltip, hit the Targets in LA to see how much damage it actually does (obviously doesn’t incorporate critical hits.) But then it’ll do different damage to every opponent due to up/down levelling, might/vulnerability stack, weakness, and the targets toughness rating…
