How Simin ruined a fun Arah Run

Considering that the condition based characters were the two rangers and the guardian, it had nothing to do with bleed cap. It was mostly burn/poison/bleed based fighting. We run this group a lot and rarely hit 25 stacks of bleed at all.

However it is kind of aggravating that a perfectly viable build for most other dungeons and bosses is rendered moot. Pretty much this boss is telling you that if you have CD, you’re useless when it comes to trying to do damage to her. The entire point of her fight is spike damage and unless you decide to fully trait for that, you aren’t really helping.

And that kind of sucks when a boss pretty much say “Nya nya” to an entire wing of builds. She’s effectively immune to conditions without having a buff that says she is.

This is the only fight I’ve seen where if you don’t have a certain group composition, you can’t beat it. No amount of speed or strategy can defeat her if you can’t pass her DPS gate, and if you have a defensive based team, you’re screwed. shrug

So we just did this. We got to this boss and she kept hitting the 50% bug. When she didn’t, we managed to get her down, but then after one slip up, she got above 50% and hit the bug again.

I agree with what was said before:

The fact that there is no room for a single mistake makes it annoying. The fact that you have to rely on spark AI which is shoddy at best and bounces back and forth between characters (and pets, which is REALLY annoying), is even worse. We had times where the spark decided to go back halfway across the room for the elementalist we had instead of sticking with the ranger pet (which it would never really get off of most of the other time).

It would be just as difficult and MUCH less frustrating if you didn’t have to rely on NPC pathing, which sucks at the best of times. If you just had to run through light or touch an item, it wouldn’t be nearly as bad.

It would still be difficult, it just wouldn’t be frustrating.

question about elder dragons

Well last time the EDs consumed all known magic, they went to sleep – though this may be due to a sudden starvation what with the Bloodstone’s creation and hiding of races. But even before the last time the ED were up, they’re said to have awakened previously where they did wipe out (most of – its possible jotun and G-Lupe survived two rises ago, and of the two only the jotun survived the previous) all life – and thus would be left with only each other.

@EndlessDreamer: Both Primordus and Zhaitan, as well as Drakkar (though only a champion) are explicitly stated to excrete draconic magic while slumbering (Primordus was used to power the old asura gate network, while Zhaitan was tapped into when the Six Gods split the Bloodstone into five pieces in order to strengthen it; Drakkar being tapped into caused Svanir to become corrupted and turn into the Nornbear). Though there’s no indication of any corruption being caused by this slumbering excretion of magic.

It’s possible that they only – as Vekk puts it – “practically bleeds magic” while sleeping, but don’t when awake.

Then I can see that if the world ran out of magic, they’d just go back to sleep then wake up when they’re hungry to eat again.

I mean, the Elder Dragons seem to be simply forces of entropy. That’s their only task in life it seems to be.

People equating the generic combat in WoW make me giggle. Once I mastered the rotations on my pally tank or hunter I could tank or dps with the best of them. Ah, the good ol’ pally 9-6-9 rotation…

No thanks. I prefer combat that makes me know my skills as well as their secondary and often tertiary effects and allows me to consider using them situationally as opposed to what some spreadsheet has pre-determined I should be doing.

Agreed. Once you learned a rotation, DPS, Healing or Tanking were pretty much cake with a little bit mixed in in case of a rogue spike of damage.

Here’s what I think is happening.

The developers can’t find a way to create content that is fun/challenging enough for a certain demographic to keep playing. In order to try to keep thier business, they’re placing these time gates on acsended gear in an effort to create a buffer of time to develop new content.

Personally I think this is a big mistake but, they’ll find out the hard way.

I think the dailies themselves, with laurels, are just damage control around the way they implemented vertical progression. Since they were following WoW’s lead they put it in a dungeon. It seems logical as that’s the way WoW does it. Here, an outrage ensued. I’m sure for most it was the manner of implementation, for others, those who understand VP, it was the VP itself.

Their solution to their failed implementation is the daily/monthly and the currency earned there. I’m sure this was something rushed from conception through implementation—remember it’s damage control. And, yes, I’m sure time-gating was implemented for a reason and they probably gave this some thought. Hopefully, not a lot of thought if this is what they came up with. I have 8 level 80 characters. That’s 8 months (sans dungeons/WvW) to get them 1 piece of gear. It’s silly on the face of it. The problem, of course, is that they don’t understand VP and how to manage it.

I do agree it’s a big mistake and Anet seems intent on learning game design the hard way. They would have had a far easier go of it if they just stuck with their manifesto.

Oh my god.

One of the manifesto/vertical progression people rears their heads out from the mire again.

I thought you had all left or died or something.

I’ll have to document this for future generations.

But in all seriousness, your point is good about the needing 8 months to get one piece of gear for 8 characters (very good in fact, I had never thought about that before), however the fact that you used charged phrases and obviously just want to start a fight kind of negate any point you had. :/

As a Ranger I have:

Been a full power house DPS normal damage
Been a full condition damage DPS
Been a full support, spirit user
Been a full healer, support user
Been a kiter/tank

All within the spectrum of a single dungeon.

Holy Trinity my rear end, I can be whatever I want to be as long as it’s useful. That’s what makes this game fun.

There is no NEED for a tank, healer, dps, but taking on that role can be helpful at times. It’s not pigeon holing you in to a single role you will play every single time.

In my current build, I am support/condition damage/damage mitigation (kiting). And I can change that up depending on which skills I use and how I use them to change the situation.

And as Guardian i can be better then any of those roles and i’m needed at high lvl fractals, also warrior. So there really isn’t holy trinity, just holy duo + mesmer.

I like playing my class, I like playing my character and I like playing the game. I have yet to be rejected for a dungeon in exchange for a guardian or warrior. I have yet to meet one in WvW or PvP I couldn’t go toe to toe with. And I’m having fun while doing it.

So I fail to really see your point.

Thankfully this game is more about skill than damage output or stats, as proven by the many characters I’ve watched die horrible deaths when encountering something that moved and dodged properly.

They are constantly adding in new ways of getting gear. I don’t see how something that makes you have an incentive to log on every day is a bad thing honestly.

Skill gates are difficult and cause a lot of complications and problems unfortunately. The new AC dungeon fixes are a pretty interesting way of looking at them, but here’s the thing:

They -can’t-, let me repeat CAN’T, waste a huge amount of time designing content that only 1% of the population will utilize. That’s a waste of resources. So they need to balance it so that even with skill gating, a good proportion of the community will be able to do it.

I mean, look at the backlash from the holiday jumping puzzles. Ouch.

The Blue Quaggan Backpack is actually based off of a female Quaggan. The Pink Quaggan is based off of a male Quaggan who has a particular fondness for bows. I have spent days in the Priory poring over ancient texts in order to figure this out.

Though seriously, it’s very hard to tell. It took me days of copious study to even realize that Quaggan had different sexes. I still don’t know if the concept of gender matters to Quaggan. Quaggan are Quaggan and Quaggan like you. Quaggan go Coo and are adorable unless made mad. The idea of gendering Quaggan seems like a very overly complicated task that will yield few benefits. Whether or not Quaggan are a female or male dominated society is also up in the air, though chances are the answer is “Quaggan choose best Quaggan for the job. You humans are very confusing.”

.. So what you are saying is that they have to gamble that they killed “their” bounty.. everyone scatters thinking they are done, the monster pops somewhere else and they lose credit because they thought they killed their bounty within the timer? Or worse.. waste their timer killing someone else’s bountry when they should have been 3 zones away 15 minutes ago?

I’m pretty sure it tells you when your bounty dies. If you kill the named monster, it dies and you get credit. I don’t think if you kill X’s bounty monster, it won’t give you credit, that’d be ridiculous.

Dragon chest bugged

EndlessDreamer.6780

Did any of you do another event prior to fighting dragon? It’s possible you’re hitting the DR if you completed another event beforehand.

Interesting. So from this post, we know a few things for certain about the way DR works:

1. Chests are affected by DR.
2. Since dragons only come once every three hours (and only 3 exist) either
a. DR is independent of the creatures you are fighting (switching the type to dragon does not diminish DR.)
b. DR is really long. So long that the penalties last for many hours.

Now what I want to know is if switching characters or zones has any effect at reducing DR.

Oi. If Arenanet people say a word you guys jump on it.

Your theories are really unfounded and you’re pretty much stretching your reasoning extremely thin from a single question that was meant to get information so that they would be better informed.

It’s JUST as easy to interpret their question as trying to figure out what causes the chest not appearing, such as a bug in the DR mechanics, instead of saying that it is intended.

What we do know is that there is DR between events, as proven by Orr farming. Monster DR and Event DR could easily be completely separate things. So your postulations as to monster DR and the length of it have no real ground. The same could be said for the chest DR conclusion that you drew. It could easily be that there is a bug in the event DR that if you hit it, it stops the chest from spawning for you.

I’m sorry if this sounds terse, but the forums have finally, and I mean just finally, stopped screaming and moaning over every perception of Diminishing returns that comes up. Don’t start this again.

I’ve been through your situation before in a few MMOs. It’s very frustrating, that because your leader is banned/quits the game, it punishes every other member for his/her mistake.

I don’t think it’s fair Anet just pushed this case to the side and lazily responded with “can’t do anything about it”.

This problem hasn’t just been with this banning. A lot of guilds have this issue. They said that they’re looking in to it before, especially given that you can’t ‘demote’ a guild leader, which can lead to issues.

It’s an unfortunate issue, but what would you suggest for them to do?

For people saying that there needs to be difficult things in the game, that’s fine. However, you need to label and advertise them as such. I’ve never come to think of dungeons as ‘content that is only for the most elite and organized’. They’re fun things you can run with friends that can be tough at points but are more fun than tough.

They’re not supposed to be so difficult that unless you have split second timing and perfect builds, you can’t do it. Hell, I’m toughness built and those imps can pretty much two to three shot me with their synchronized attacks if I’m not careful. I’m not sure, do they have circles? Cause I can’t see them when I’m ankle deep in water.

Of course, your definition of dungeons might be different than mine.

Also, there is a difference between difficulty and annoyance inducement. Giganticus Lupicus: Challenging, but not so annoying. Subject Alpha: Not really challenging, but annoying due to how long it takes. Torches: Challenging and annoying due to respawn rate and just pure level of synchronization you can’t do without voice.

It’s a fine line however and it depends on the group and the player. Someone else might find GL to be annoying as hell.

What I would suggest for later though is maybe a hard mode for dungeons. So, normal mode for those of us who want to play through the dungeons and have a bit of a rough time but not need raid group type synchronization and a hard mode for those who really want to test their limits.

With, of course, drops that reflect it’s difficulty. Or maybe a new set of armor that is dungeon armor + in the sense of looks or something. I dunno.

That way, the people who want harder paths can get harder paths. Those of us who are having trouble with the paths already can still do them without having to wonder why the hell we keep face planting.

ANYWAY. I was one of the ones with Azureai that night. Thanks for responding, maybe I’ll eventually be able to get through path 3.

Hahaha, I know that “downed” situation all too well. It’s just funny, because my thief seems to take a good chunk more aggro than my Guardian. I know the damage numbers obviously help the mob decide who dies next. But my CD thief has no issue with aggro while my crit thief HAS to cloak regularly to reset aggro, and sometimes AS SOON as I become particular matter again, the mob doesn’t like that I fooled him. ^^ And most of the time it ends quite badly for him.

Ya. I think there are certain parameters in this game that, once filled, you get the monster’s full attention. So it’s not like other games where it’s purely a “Okay, your Damage is higher than this person, so I’m gonna chomp on you”. It might literally be tactics that you are using, such as getting up close, etc. Of course, there has to be some sort of “sticking” or else we could bug out bosses by constantly changing their aggro.

It’s actually pretty fascinating. I hope ANet at least gives a teaser as to some of them eventually. Would be prettty cool to read.

There is really no point in discussing WoW in the GW2 forums. It’s been stated before that the moderators don’t really like this kind of comparison, and for good reason to.

There is no reason to stir up trouble with other games.

Couldn’t care less what themes the moderators like being discussed.

Too bad you agreed to not bring them up when you joined the forums.

“Do not submit “trolling” posts or threads. We define “trolling” as commenting in a manner intended to elicit overly strong negative and emotional responses for mere shock value, attempting to derail threads, persistently posting off-topic, or engaging in personal attacks on another forum member. Accounts made with the sole intent to “troll” will be terminated.”

Posting a topic that compares two MMOs in an inflammatory way is, by definition, trolling.

Like I said, there is no point in stirring up trouble players of another MMO on these forums by “calling out” their game. There have been similar fights on other gaming forums and there is really NO good reason to start them here.

No aggro/hate mechanic not true?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EndlessDreamer.6780

EndlessDreamer.6780

At no point has anyone stated that there is no aggro mechanic. Bosses have stuck to me like glue before.

However, there is no one overall encompassing aggro mechanic, such as in other games. There is no ‘hate’ mechanism that a single character can use in order to maintain aggro and act as a tank. That’s the only thing they’ve said. So thus, it breaks from other games in that there are no taunts, etc.

How do aggro mechanics work?

It varies on the monster. I can’t remember but the post is floating around where a dev said that different monsters have different mechanics. Some go for ranged characters, some go for the heaviest armor, some go for the lightest, some go for X, some for Y and some for Z. That’s all we really know now about the aggro mechanics is that it varies between enemies and it’s not linked to one single factor throughout the entire game like DPS or armor class in other games.

Thank you for clarifying, and I wasn’t implying that there was no mechanic, just that I am absolutely clueless as to how it operates. And I will say, I do like that everyone has a fair chance to be the target.

Oh ya, I was trying to be as specific as possible. I didn’t think you said there weren’t aggro mechanics, but I just wanted to clarrify in case someone interpreted it as such. It’s a good question.

But ya, aggro mechanic depends completely on things. I have an exorbinately high toughness stat for being a ranger (like around 2,000) and some bosses can’t get enough of the tasty tasty ranger. However, in other fights, I sit there and watch the poor elemenalist get constantly attacked.

And sometimes they switch. That Champion Karka near the rich ori vein LOVES people who are mining, to the point he’ll just go “… Eh.” to those who have been wailling on him. :P

I think one thing to keep in mind is that going down doesn’t ‘clear’ their dislike of you, thus you’ll probably a lot of times find yourself the aim of their animosity quite a bit even after you’ve hit the ground. :P

There is really no point in discussing WoW in the GW2 forums. It’s been stated before that the moderators don’t really like this kind of comparison, and for good reason to.

There is no reason to stir up trouble with other games.

No aggro/hate mechanic not true?

This is shown by the fact that sometimes the heavy armor people are the ones who are munched on while sometimes the lighter armor ones are getting their butts handed to them.

It’s just more noticable the times when you are being chased around the entire fight.

Network Lag [Merged]

On Crystal Desert, there is some strange lag that is happening a lot in Orr. A lot of people have been mentioning it. Either the screen just freezes for a few moments or you are moving but the skills you are trying to hit aren’t reacting.

Is this the last tier or will there be more?

They said there are no plans in the upcoming future for any more gear tiers. So if we’re looking at the future, it’ll be the late late future.

Also shots for every time someone uses the word gear treadmill without actually understanding the meaning behind it.

I can’t wait until reset tomorrow. Rather have to deal with our kitten getting kicked by TC.

Yeah. I found that when we were matched up V TC and YB, there was less useless rage on our matchup threads. I’m surprised this one hasn’t been closed too, with the random attacks on other players that everyone is so hell bent on making. People need to relax.

It’s probably going to be random rage targeted at YB next week.

The funny part is that the first thread was locked due to CD infighting, not because of what you are talking about. Maguuma hasn’t played Yak’s Bend in a long time, so I don’t know what to think of them now. They must have come a long way to be fighting in T3 though, because we beat them last time. We don’t hate all servers that outnumber us, either. A lot of us like Fort Aspenwood quite a bit despite them massively outnumbering us (seemingly), because their coordination is pretty insane compared to ours.

Well, they have pretty equal, if not stronger presence than CD at all times, other than our night/early morning crew. TC is the same way.

Plus, what I’m talking about, is everyone who comes on here, just says they don’t care about winning, and then blindly attacks any player that isn’t on their server, for whatever reason. If it isn’t that they want to win, or they’re mad they’re losing or something, what is it? They want to come on here and just be kitten like that?

I understand that all of the higher tier servers have higher population than either Maguuma or Ehmry Bay, but that’s not (entirely) what people are complaining about. I don’t feel like going down that road again though, so take it as you will.

Some people like to troll, it’s a fact of life. It’s not like CD is exempt from that, given at least one person has admitted to openly trolling us to elicit a response. A lot of people just need to lighten up (including me, I’m sure) and relax. I thought both of the videos posted by Cain were pretty funny. Would it be less funny if it was about our server? Slightly, yeah. But who doesn’t find quaggan knocking people off cliffs funny? It doesn’t matter who “started it” in the forums PvP since we’re (hopefully) no longer in third grade. If people want to participate in a crapfest that someone else started, it doesn’t make them any better.

I think it’s just that a lot of people take the game far too seriously and don’t understand sportsmanship. You see that a lot in internet gaming, though less in some professional gaming circles. Thankfully it’s kinda frowned upon in some circuits, but it’s still prevalent in others.

This goes on all sides, even for people on my own server. It’s meant to be fun and while competition is fun to many, getting too serious will just lead you to getting hugely invested and when you investment crashes (and it eventually will, every server gets its butt handed to it eventually), you act out and look for a reason to vent, which usually aims it at other people.

And that ruins everyone’s day.

And it’s too bad. WvW can be fun, even if you’re getting your butt whooped. I enjoy smacking down people who are trying to take me down, even if I die. I enjoy trying to take a keep even if I wrack up a huge amount of repair bills. I enjoy helping out the random NPCs patrolling the area. I enjoy just running around doing the JPs.

Thus that’s why I do WvW. It’s just unfortunate that people have to cheat, be bad sports and, in general, bring bad attitudes to a really fun activity.

If you’re not having fun unless you’re winning or coming out ahead (and this applies to all servers), that’s a really unhealthy attitude.

Eh. Honestly, Mag and EB have been awesome opponents these last two weeks. The first week you guys did really… kinda badly. This week? Oh my, you pulled through almost completely and are doing a ton better than before. It’s been a lot more fun and I enjoy fighting you guys greatly.

Even more so when I try and do a cease fire in the jumping puzzles, but that rarely does any good since.. ya know, limited conversation.

But ya, good job guys. You’ve made it fun. I’m just sorry that we have more numbers, cause I feel like if our numbers were even we’d be pretty neck and neck.

Both.

I am still playing through GW1 and still love GW2 and even though they’re different games, still like them both.

Agony is actually rather brilliant

He said the implementation of Ascended gear in only one area of the game was an obvious mistake. He said no such thing about agony

Actually, he did. Specifically this, in regard to one of the questions which included mention of agony vs skill based progression:

Chris Whiteside

In regard to gated content via gear then i think that this is something we are going to give more thought to.

Fair. I can’t believe I missed that part. My bad, thanks for correcting me.

Still thinking about it doesn’t mean they are completely eradicating it or considering it a whole failure.

Same thread I linked, page 12:

“Whoa there. I wasn’t trying to start a fight. I’m sorry if it sounded that way.

ANet has already made it clear (in past announcements, interviews, etc.) that max level gear will be available to everyone through normal game play. I’m paraphrasing, but they said that by level 80, everyone should have max gear. By that reasoning, we can extrapolate that the items available in the shop will be cosmetic in nature, and not confer any statistical advantage.

There will almost certainly be armor and weapon skins that are difficult to get in game, but since they won’t provide any advantage, then it really doesn’t matter if you get them. They will be a matter of personal preference only.

There is nearly literally no way for them to make the game P2W based on the game model."

Again, how many examples do you want is the question, I could probably find you hundreds. I’d rather not and I’m pretty sure I’ll get infracted if I actually did post hundreds of quotes, but I could do it.

Well, I meant quotes from actual ANet representatives, not the people who are potentially quoting them. Sorry if I’m misunderstanding and these are ANet people.
