Facepalm

40% off of Guild Wars 2 at the moment (Will definitely go up to at least 60% off later), and advertisements like this popping up left and right. I think that tells us what the population of Guild Wars 2 is like.

My goodness, that was hard to watch though.

I think it’s completely irrelevant. Advertisement is advertisement. They’ve done sales before, and other advertisement campaigns.

This is like saying WoW going partial F2P with a starter edition is a desperate move. It’s merely to try to get people more to try out the game and get them hooked.

One can consider that a game is not doing well when it goes F2P when it originally was B2P, P2P or what have you (say for example Tera, Rift, Aion, etc.).

At the moment, it’s not about the amount of players in the game that they want. It’s money. What logical reason would they have for making the game 40% off and then advertising with this? If they were doing well, they would keep the game at 60 dollars and keep advertising. But nope, they drop it to 40% off and advertise to bring in more players so they will have more money.

And as much as I like WoW, that was a desperate move on their part to offer a starter edition. Their idea was to offer it in the hopes that people would come and see how great the game is, but most people play the starter edition and once they hit level 20, they delete the game.

I respectfully disagree. My example stands, as it is in no way a sign of desperation on Blizzard’s end, rather their own attempt at trying to cater to the massive crowd of players who are too cheap to actually pay for a game (or simply can’t afford it). The same crowd that is indulged by the horribly flawed F2P model. Blizzard does not do F2P, although they are starting to get into it, about 5 years later, with Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.

WoW has 7 million subscribers after nearly 9 years, that alone is absolutely impressive and they have nothing to feel desperate about. And no, I do not play WoW and I in fact find the game very boring.

And I still don’t believe GW2 is doing poorly in term of money. Having a sale on the game is perfectly normal, it happens all the time and considering the sheer competitive nature of the MMO market, I don’t see it as an anomaly or a sign of bad financial shape. I mean, what do you expect? That they just keep the game at $60 throughout the whole year, without ever advertising it? A game which doesn’t offer any discount nor any advertisement is doomed to die, it’s as simple as that. As disgusting as advertisement can get, it is a sad necessity and one can’t expect their game to grow (understand: actually grow, not survive) without it.

I think it’s mostly meant as a goofy advertisement, I’m sure they don’t expect anyone to actually take the pledge. I mean, anyone who would do it would be doing it not so much for the free game but simply to be part of the fun.

I agree there are better ways to advertise the honestly amazing game that is GW2 though. I simply don’t take that particular ad seriously.

Oh, I didn’t make that last paragraph clear at all. Guild Wars 2 is doing great financially, but they are doing very poor with the amount of players in the game at the moment. That’s the reason for the 40% discount and the advertisement. To get more people to join. They sacrifice money to do that. It just seems like they’re making a joke out of it when they advertise like this because, instead of bringing people in, it repulses people.

Never gonna farm enough gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

For Twilight. It’s such a neat sword… but it’s so out of my reach. The most I can make a day by doing FGS champ trains / world bosses (and might I mention that I get jack squat from the world bosses all the time)… I calculate I’ll have to run champ trains 9 hours a day for two months solid… aint nobody got time for that! The average price of twilight is 3000g! That’s absurd!

Your calculations fail to include the rare drops that you would get during those 2 months. I’m guessing your calculations also fail to include the tier 6 mats that sometimes drop, or are you storing those in your bank for later use? I farmed the FGS champ train for like 4-6 hours a day and got 100 gold in about 3 days, if not a little less than 3 days. Because you are constantly killing champs, I’m guessing that you would have a significantly higher chance of receiving an exotic piece of equipment than you would by killing world bosses (because you kill more champions in the time it takes to kill one world boss). You never know, you could loot a precursor during that time.

Will there be better PvE content? Catacombs?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

its called fractal of the mists and will be updated Tuesday.

the dungeon idea you have would need to be instanced for it to stay “challenging” and this is exactly what fractals is for.

Except fractals sucks, and the idea for a catacomb infinite dungeon could be fantastic. You run the same boring fractals every. single. time. Nobody gives a flying crap that they’re randomized because they’re all equally bad.

I can see the catacombs being added. It’s a good idea. Especially for people who are into D&D because it’ll be just like old times. You start with easy enemies who give trash loot, but the deeper you go, the harder the enemies get and the better the loot is. There could also be a boss at the end of each catacomb level who, when killed, has a chance to drop an ascended piece of equipment. The chance for the equipment increases as you lower yourself deeper into the dungeon.

Adding the fear of running into players while you struggle to fight monsters is also a good idea. How about making the players drop valuable loot when killed so it adds incentive to kill them?

Overall, this could be a very good idea to implement into the game. I like it.

Non-human characters literally make me sick

Well, personally I think all of the races in this game are terrible. I’m a D&D player, so I’m used to dwarves, gnomes, elves, orcs, and other cool races. Then I get on guild wars 2 and I see plant people that look like green humans with flowers for heads, charr that look like oversized fluff balls, and Asura that look like little rat people with big ears. The ONLY reason I leveled a sylvari Elementalist to 80 was because I imagined him as a High Elf Mage.

The races/classes of the future will never be as good as in the past. D&D had the best races.

Holy Trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

Well, look at it this way. Because GW2 has no trinity, the ONLY via me build in PVE is berserker. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like being forced to play berserker in PVE. Also, having no trinity has basically made balancing classes impossible. Tanks are supposed to have tanks skills, and healers are supposed to have healing skills. Now, every time someone wants to change their build, there is only one best build at a time. No other builds can be equal to or greater than the most viable build.

Guild wars 2 is fundamentally flawed because of this.

Death, dying, empty, lifeless, unmoving, pointless, generally boring, full of pointless grind, pointless activities, full of bugs, full of glitches, and finally, not worth it. Those are the words I use to describe GW2 when I see those other games.

If you want to know the truth, Rift did everything GW2 did, but they did it better. Much, much better. The dynamic events in Rift are really beginner friendly and you are rewarded properly for doing them. You are also able to scale down you level so you can play with friends. Or you could just stay your current level and one hit things.

Galtrix.7369

We have a wide array of styles with the classes we already have. What would a new class accomplish that could not be handled by the introduction of new weapons and skills? Increasing build diversity and skill niches is what we really need.

Leveling a new class could be FUN. And considering that’s the only fun you’d see since hitting level 80, I would think you’d jump at the chance. I do agree that I would rather have more build diversity and new skills before a new class is released. A new class would just add to the jumbled confusion of crap that is SPvP and PvE.

Is Guild Wars 2 dying??

in Players Helping Players

Galtrix.7369

People are transferring to tier 1 servers for the league rewards. Simple as that.
They should remove the transfer to populated servers and make it available to empty servers only.

This is it.

The combination of Tequatl’s 80 person minimum requirement and the WvW league rewards is causing players on the medium and below populated servers to leave in droves for the highly populated servers.

That would spread out all the players evenly across all servers, and it would show how truly low the population actually is. Most likely, if Anet did decide to spread out all players evenly across all servers, you would see a massive drop in server populations and you would rarely see a single player in like…. 10 hours of playing.

If they however, decide to spread out players evenly across all servers, and THEN merge a lot of the servers, that would solve the population issue.

I’d have to disagree with you on the Ranger part. There is no possible way that I could ever play my Ranger and think of Richard Rahl. When I read the Sword of Truth series, I get that, “OH HECK YES” feeling, and when I play my Ranger the only feeling I get is, “I shot an arrow…. I shot another arrow…. oh I used a skill that shot two arrows”. In fact, in my opinion, all of the pictures are wrong. My opinion of the classes in Guild Wars 2 can be summed up in one large picture that is attached below.

Edit: Except the classes in Guild Wars 2 have no capes, making the classes in GW2 99% less cool.

Why the transmutation system needs a revamp

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

Transmutation stones are probably Anet’s biggest profit, unfortunately. I found myself buying transmutation stones every single time I wanted a new set of armor, which was about every 4 weeks. Right about there is when I lost interest in the game and decided to renew my WoW subscription, but then I came across Rift and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it recently.

If Anet ever gets rid of the transmutation stones altogether, then I may come back and have some fun…. but for now, I’m content with Rift.

Tarnished Coast or Blackgate. All other servers besides those two are completely empty of all life and almost non-existent. I call it “severe population crisis” because that’s how bad a lot of the servers have gotten. Go big or go home.

it looks like theres alot of servers with “very high” amount of players. Was thinking about just picking a lower one because i didnt want to suffocate but according to everyone alot is good so i guess any “very high” server will do

Yeah, the server status’s are lies. Choose one of the top three servers or you will regret it, trust me. Gate of Madness said “very high” all the time, yet I could never find a single person. I ended up deleting a lot of my level 80’s just so I could transfer to Tarnished Coast.

Guild Wars 2… for Ps4? haha.

No offense, but console users have become more accustomed to receiving a constant flow of adventure, action, and difficulty. I consider myself a console user, and I would not play GW2 on a console for just those reasons. Guild Wars 2 does not offer the “entertainment high” that I look forward to when I hop on my console to play a game. The only MMORPG I might consider playing on a console is WoW because there’s so much to do. No other MMORPG would be worth putting on a console.

Champion bags are ruining open world PvE

PvE ruined itself. How many full dungeons have we received in the past year? How many new major events were added to PvE? I can only think of a few things that were added, but they didn’t necessarily improve the game for the better. Teq is one of those things. PvE was never good to start with.

Hahaha…. So in other words, you basically want Anet to give you max level in exchange for money while other people without money slave away killing monsters in dungeons or taking towers in WvW. This game was advertised as casual, but I think it’s a little too casual when someone demands a way to level that doesn’t require time or effort. If easy and super-duper casual is what you want, I hear hello-kitty online is a good place to go.

No offense to anyone here, but I just don’t understand how anyone can be addicted to this game anyway. I got addicted to WoW because of the seemingly endless content that I could enjoy, yet I can count the number of things to do in GW2, and they’re all time-gated.

Importance of End Game (scale 1-10)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

10. End-game is definitely a 10 for me. Despite what other people believe, end-game does not have to be all about gear grind or doing dungeons. End-game to me is a variety of fun events or activities to keep you entertained. Traditionally, endgame content should be difficult and more fun than the content before endgame. Save the best for last, am I right? And that’s a very strategic move, because endgame is where players are likely to lose interest, so increasing the fun and entertainment is a must. Guild wars 2 lacks the fun and entertainment that endgame should bring. Instead of participating in various endgame activities, I am pigeonholed into running the meta-boss circle, and forced into the Living Story that is a pretend endgame. There should be much, much more to do once you hit level 80. For me, PvP was a massive part of endgame, but Anet decided to completely separate SPvP from PvE, and that ruined it for me.

Housing will keep you busy for what? A few hours at most. Then back to the AMUSE ME bandwagon.

That’s completely up to the player. It will obviously keep you busy for a few hours, but you are not me thanks.

yes, thank goodness that is true.

The most extensive housing system I’ve seen in a gane is RuneScape’s. There’s multiple types of rooms, you can build mini games, trophies, dungeons, portals, servants and basically everything you’d possibly want.

Yet no one gives a kitten about housing there even after countless updates and revamps to the extent the devs just gave up and decided the construction skill should be used for something else.

That’s probably due to the fact that the game is full of 10 year olds that just want to be better than other 10 year olds. Therefore, they spend 90% of their time leveling, obtaining new gear, and improving skills. The other 10% is used for stuff like housing, guilds, and friends. I honestly don’t know what the devs were thinking when they implemented that… because I could smell failure from the beginning of its existence.

Last I checked I wasn’t ten years old nor are any of the people in my guild. I don’t think that 10 year olds have a monopoly on trying to be better than their peers in any case. I think you’ll find many in their 20s and 30s fall into this category as well. In fact, there’s an entire thread saying this game is aimed at older players, not younger players.

Actually, I was talking about Runescape, not guild wars 2 in this case. I’m also speaking from personal experience when I talk about kids on Runescape. And you’d be surprised… When I was 10 years old the only things I cared about were exploring, looking better, and being better than other people. That’s where my fun was located

I don’t think you can just randomly generalise a game’s population to 10 year olds without any solid proof. When I was playing up until quite recently, our clan of 250 people had an average age of around 18. Observational bias is everywhere.

No, I suppose it wouldn’t be fair to generalize a game’s population as 10 year olds. But… Due to the graphics, advertisements, and overly simple quest stories, I think it’s safe to say the game was made for children and teens.

3.) Based on my playstyle? If it’s based on my playstyle, I rate GW2 as a 1. GW2 at the moment is my last resort to stop boredom. I will watch t.v, chop firewood, play Rift, and read a book before I finally log in to GW2. Guild Wars 2 just doesn’t feel like a role-playing game to me at all, and I barely have any connection with my characters.

I would like to see PvE improved to the point that it’s as polished as WoW’s PvE content. I want at least 10 more dungeons, a TON more gear, capes, more skills/traits, and mounts. I would also like the Living World to be every other month instead of every two weeks, and I would like the Living World to have an expansion’s worth of content instead of the 5-minutes of unbelievably repetitive content that we get.

Levels segregate the game world

Levels segregate the game world.

People cant enjoy the full of the game world without leveling first.

if players take their time, they miss out on all the cool things happening all over the place.

So no point not rushing to max level. but that leads to burnout since the skill/trait system doesnt reward well for leveling between 1-30, 30-40, 40-60, 60-80.

Would you like to eliminate levels altogether? Would you like there to be a server where you could instantly be level 80? Would you like to be temporarily leveled up when entering a higher level zone?

You didn’t provide a single solution. All you did was complain, and you didn’t suggest much of anything. Levels are a lot less stressful in this game than in others. This must be your first MMORPG. So go play WoW, Rift, Aion, or Runes of Magic and then try to compare the leveling process. I personally think Anet did a very good job on the level system, even though I hate not being able to one hit things.

I definitely agree that it seems like the devs pay special attention to certain things that need to be addressed, but it’s the things they don’t address that get people angry. From Anet’s standpoint, it seems like the Living Story takes precedence over Class Balance. Actually, at this point, I think it’s safe to say that Anet is thinking the Living Story is more important than anything else, and therefore they neglect many other important aspects of the game.

I believe most of the players would take class balance over the living story any day. I, myself, didn’t even participate in many of the Living Stories, and if I did, I played them for about 5 minutes.

Hopefully Anet will address some of the issues in PvE and the gear viability issues. As of now, it seems like they’re doing very well and communicating with the players much more often, so it seems like there’s going to be a lot more communication in the future. Good job so far on communication, Anet!

Short Answer: To avoid causing an uproar.

Long Answer: One of two answers are correct. You decide which.

1- Think about how much whining and crying is going on right now about the balance changes and how they aren’t well done at all. Each skill change is taken apart and analyzed by the players, and that’s where the crying is coming from. If Anet told the players about every single skill that was changed, there would probably be riots and chaos. I don’t like it either, but if I were Anet, I wouldn’t tell the players about minor changes either.

2- Nobody has any idea what they’re doing with balancing classes, so they have to fix the many mistakes they make by going back and stealth-fixing it instead of making an “official” change.

So you are fine if a car you bought 1 day stops turning left and instead starts turning up out of sudden right ? People got right to know what devs mess up, they will know it eventually and hidden nerfs cause even more crying, because people weren’t even informed about that changes(that were not beneficial). Your logic is twisted and so do you.

I just explained what I think is going on in the minds of the devs. I consider myself one of the whiners and criers because I do not like the direction the game has gone. Please calm yourself. I want to know what the hidden changes are too.

Character Stats too restrictive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

If we had a lot more armor in the game with massive variations in stats, then I could see the reason that Anet didn’t let us assign our stats manually. But there isn’t enough armor in the game with different stats to justify doing that, so I don’t know. With the amount of armor with current stats in the game, I think they definitely should’ve let us manually select our stats. As it stands, I feel like I’m consistently being pigeonholed into berserker gear, so that’s definitely a restriction. At the moment, I barely play…. but I would play a lot more if more stats were viable in PvE.

Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

Reasons I barely play anymore:

-Community is complete garbage compared to other MMORPG’s. I’ve found friendlier people in dark alleyways at night. I’ve found maybe 3 people that I can really say I’ve enjoyed playing with in almost 2,500 hours of playing, and that’s sad for an MMORPG.

-This just doesn’t feel like an RPG to me. I don’t know what it is, but I just don’t feel like I’m playing an RPG at all when I play. Is it maybe the lack of progression? Maybe a lack of capes? A lack of character personality? Maybe the fact that I don’t have to talk to an npc to receive a quest and that eliminates Roleplaying? I don’t know, but it could be some weird combination of those that make me feel this way.

-The class balance is skewed so badly that every time a balance patch comes along, I could hop on my character and say, “I wonder if I’m going to win or lose these PvP matches until the next patch”. I caught myself thinking that and had to reprimand myself. It should be, “Well, I’m confident in my ability to do my best and I’m confident in my build, so there’s a good chance I’ll win, but there’s always a chance I’ll lose”. The classes either get buffed too hard or nerfed way too much. Apparently, finding a balance is too difficult.

-Soooo many bugs. I can’t play for a day without running into at least 2 bugs that prevent me from doing some stuff whether it’s selling some gear, selling to a merchant, or getting my gold deleted. No mmorpg, in my history of playing, has ever had as many bugs as GW2.

-It deviates from the norm. Different races than classic RPG’s, different classes, and overall, the world does not feel nearly as polished as it should. I feel like the Asura, the Sylvari, and the Charr are the joke races of this game. Asura are small and incredibly ugly… they don’t even look like they could even be a real race. Sylvari are also ugly, and they barely look like they could be people. And for the final complaint: Charr’s armor does not fit them, and when it does fit them, it’s a 99% chance that it will turn out ugly. Dwarves, Gnomes, Elves, and Humans all feel like real races that could actually exist. I don’t feel this way about the current classes in GW2… I feel like I’m playing in an imaginary world where everything is fluffy, pink, and ugly.

-The combat and player screen suck. Skill explosions get in the way of seeing when an enemy will attack me, and I will insta-die immediately because I can’t see a single darn animation.

-WvW is terrible. Biggest servers win, lowest servers lose. No competition there.

-SPvP is so unbalanced that barely anyone plays it anymore. I tried SPvP twice: The first time, I was level 70ish and basically got instakilled by a warrior with a hammer. That’s when I quit for about 4 months. Then I tried a second time and got roflstomped by a guardian with a greatsword. Never again SPvP…. never again.

Guild Wars 2 is a decent game for the initial 100 hours that I put into it, but after the 100 hours I just got bored and had to begin forcing myself to play. I can normally force myself through some pretty hard grinding/bugs/bad situations that happen to me in MMORPG’s, but this is honestly the first MMORPG where I’ve stopped playing until Anet fixes at least the majority of their mistakes.

legendary far too common?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

I just met a guy with 5 legendary in a dungeon PUG. I have a legendary as well but that guys just made me feel so under-equipped – almost feel like naked even!

Come to think of it, most people in Pug nowadays have at least 1 legendary. Many have 2 or more. If you use the number of people standing outside of the LA bank as an indication, 8 out of 10 people must have at least 1 legendary. The last 20% must be people who have just started, people playing alts, or people simply don’t like the looks of the legendary.

I think it is about time to make legendary weapon legendary again:
TIME TO RAISE THE LEVEL CAP!

This will make all current legendary obsolete. New better looking and harder to get level 100 legendary can be introduced. Image your legendary weapons are rare again and not a standard issued piece of tin foil that everyone who wants it has.

You all agree with me? Yes!

lol. That guy probably plays GW2 24/7. I have all the time in the world and STILL can’t get a freaking precursor. The Legendary weapons should’ve never been RNG based in the first place, so making another legendary with an even lower drop rate would probably make 80% of the guild wars 2 population quit immediately. After trying to obtain a legendary for 2,500 hours and not getting one, I barely pick up this game anymore, and if they added a legendary that is harder to get with better stats, I would quit this game immediately.

Ever stop and think Zerker was intended (PvE)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

If it was intended, it was the biggest mistake Anet will have ever made. Forcing players into Berserker gear takes away their agency, and therefore gives them no sense of actual choice in the game. That’s why I don’t play NEARLY as much as I did 5 months ago for just this reason. I feel like I’m forced into a playstyle that I don’t want and don’t like. I still cling to the hope that Anet will make other playstyles viable, but if it was intended, then I will never pick this game up again. Forcing players into a certain playstyle is not what a good mmorpg does, and that’s why a lot of long-time mmorpg players are so against forcing players into playstyles. I asked the people in my guild how many of them were long-time mmo players, and two freaking people out of like 52 players said they played an mmorpg before Guild Wars 2. From my experience, most long-time mmorpg’ers have left this game already, and all that’s left are the non-mmorpg types. As a long-time mmorpg player myself, I shunned the idea that I would be forced to play berserker and that’s why I do not play much at all anymore.

The thought process on temporary content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

There’s plenty that goes into running a game that isn’t immediately apparent. For example, the more dungeons you have, the less people you have doing each dungeon. People who love dungeons think that dungeon runners are the bulk of the population but I don’t think that’s the case. Moreso, I don’t think it’s ever been the case.

So less dungeons mean more people doing each. In games with tons of dungeons, you have older dungeons that never get done (much like story mode here), in favor of the more popular dungeons that people do all the time.

By limiting dungeons to a time limit, Anet controls traffic. They get people doing the content and then they get people doing different content. Because of achievements, people who would have never done the content in the first place might be tempted to do it, and some do. I’ve seen that in my guild.

Just imagine a multiplayer game with thousands of dungeons. There are already dungeons and dungeon paths that people hardly ever run. Put in a popular new dungeon and everyone will run it and forget about the old dungeons.

Anet has said more than once they’re against dividing the game’s population too much. It’s one of the reasons they used for having only one type of SPvP and another reason they gave for not having stand alone expansions like the original factions.

One of the key things about MMOs is that everyone is interested in who else is playing. No one wants to start playing an MMO that no one is playing. By directing traffic, Anet gets to show people that people are playing their game, in significant numbers…and that’s good for everyone.

Because if Anet didn’t do some traffic direction, and everyone spread out doing whatever they wanted, I think the world would end up looking pretty lonely. It’s a big world. They need lots of players out in it.

The world is still lonely, even with Anet’s attempt at traffic direction. I got so tired of barely seeing anyone out in the world that I just transferred servers. And guess what? I literally, and this is no joke, saw more people in 3 minutes on tarnished coast than I did in 6 months on gate of madness. And gate of madness is a high population server. I don’t know what Anet is thinking about that, but they sure aren’t helping the population of the game. So many people have transferred to the three big servers that every other server is left with an extremely small amount of players. And with no responses from Anet on suggestions to merge the servers, it looks like Anet is either ignoring us or stalling to come up with a better idea. The only thing Anet can show ATM is that people are playing and transferring to the 3 big servers. I bet not a single person has transferred from one of the 3 big servers to a smaller one…. Why? Because it makes no sense to do that. I don’t know what Anet is doing but it sure isn’t directing traffic.

How much have you spent on this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

$60, for the game itself. I have proudly not used a single dollar to buy gems, and I don’t intend ever to do so.

I’ve paid my money for this game, stop telling me to “support it”, defending crappy RNG practices and overpriced goods.

I’m not criticizing GW2 itself, this game is AWESOME! But the monetization….

Unless anything has changed since they introduced Black Lion Ticket Scraps, they are one of the most unethical business practices I’ve ever seen in the gemstore. Their drop rate are so low, the intention isn’t to give us a fair chance, but rather their sheer existence is to trap people into opening more chests, pressuring them to gamble even more with hopes of collecting 10 scraps.

And then they actually expect some people to collect 7 Black Lion Tickets? For a single weapon skin? Really? How much does that equate in USD? Seriously, I’m asking the question. Someone calculate how much USD on average it costs to collect 7 tickets, then tell me if you’re willing to spend that much money.

Look, the GW2 playerbase could spend their money on whatever they want, but I don’t intend to do so because the monetization is absolutely horrendous. Even if we could play the game without this gemstore crud, it’s still like taking a dump on someone’s birthday cake. Sure, they could try to eat the pieces of the cake without feces on it, but who would want to eat such a thing?

Placing an ugly person next to a nice person doesn’t make the nice person look better by contrast. It just makes both of them look ugly.

I really wish the monetization would stop killing GW2’s reputation.

I’m pretty sure placing a hot person next to an ugly person does not make them both ugly. The hot person is still going to be hot.

Anet hasn’t responded to my server merge request either – and that was about a month ago. I think that decision is out of the question for them, and the game is suffering for it. I had to finally give in and delete all my characters and transfer to a different server because I actually wanted to see people when I played.

Either they refuse to believe that the population of Guild Wars 2 is decreasing rapidly, or they just don’t see it happening, which I don’t understand.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

Game isn’t subscription based, it’s cash shop based. So they need to replace a $15 a month subscription from all with items bought by few. Therefore the price.

Guild Wars 2 is basically pay to play after you want new armor. “Oh, you want new armor? Buy the armor skins from the gem store or buy the transmutation stones for your armor. Oh, and the transmutation stones come in increments of 5 or 10. Have fun spending money on transmutation stones you don’t need!”

They already replaced the $15 a month subscription fee with the insane amount of RNG they place in the gemstore every few weeks, and then some. They could lower the prices by 90% and they would still have a steady income due to all the people giving in to the RNG.

Ascended Weapons (+armor). Pro vs. Con

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pros:
-Ascended gear gives the hardcore players something to do, so both casuals and hardcore players have something to do.

-Ascended gear means new armor added to the game. Anet hasn’t added a single armor set to the game yet.

Cons:
-Casuals truly believe that ascended gear will unbalance WvW and PvE and will favor the hardcore players.

-Ascended gear looks like butt.

-Ascended gear uses the same general armor concept as every. single. piece. of. armor. in. the. game. Therefore, it is butt ugly x2.

Will People Play Content They Don't Enjoy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

A ton of people play only for the rewards, and that’s where their fun comes from. It’s not from the content, although some of it can be fairly enjoyable, but it’s from the end result of finally acquiring that shiny new item that you can wear around town and show off.

I think of myself as one of those people that like rewards and will do just about anything I don’t enjoy doing to get those rewards. For example: I absolutely detest champion farming yet I farmed champions for 8 hours straight one day just so I could get the Commander tag. Afterward, I ate some food and then continued to farm for another 4 hours because I saw how much gold I could gain, and I got greedy.

Most people are like this, and I know this because of how every single MMORPG is developed. Ask yourself: Why does every MMORPG focus so heavily on rewards, and why is Guild Wars 2 shifting to a more rewarding atmosphere? The answer: The majority of people that play MMORPG’s want to be rewarded for playing. If I am given content that looks cool, but yields no rewards, I will not play that content because I believe it is completely useless in the long run. Sure, I’ll have fun for a few minutes, but after that I’ll get bored. If I am given content that sucks, but gives amazing rewards, I will do the content anyway.

To be honest though, the achievements and tasks in Guild Wars 2 are even more repetitive than in other MMORPG’s, and even if the tasks gave a good enough reward, I most likely wouldn’t do those tasks.

The only problem that’s keeping me from playing GW2 consistently is that there are no large, difficult events that are really, really rewarding. Teq is probably the most rewarding event in the game at the moment, and he only gives a -chance- to drop ascended weapons, which I already have. I’m actually okay with the RNG aspect of a boss that large and powerful, but the rewards need to be much, much better. Personally, I recommend lowering the time to kill teq to 13 minutes and improving the rewards to about 20 gold + a chance for ascended weapons. I haven’t managed to kill Teq yet, so I do not know if 13 minutes is not difficult enough. It could be 9 minutes.

But at the moment, I do not even feel the need to attempt Teq because the rewards are complete crap. Even though Teq is fun, the reward sucks.

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

Until bosses are improved so that builds besides berserker are viable, the Trinity still rules all. The Trinity is the best system at the moment, and Anet is proving that with their non-trinity system. When conditions/bunker/support builds become viable in PvE, only then will Anet’s combat system truly shine. As it stands now though, the combat system is the worst combat I’ve seen in a very long time.

One of two things will happen if Anet ever decides to do something about this.

1.) Anet will improve bosses so that berserkers alone cannot defeat it. They need support/bunker/condition builds in the group.

2.) Anet will add the trinity. (This is a lot less likely). (.0000008% chance less likely).

It’s just a matter of when Anet will improve the bosses, because time is ticking, and people that don’t use berserker gear are leaving or have already left.
