Well, since all the new and exciting things seem to be locked in the new zone, you kinda need to get the expansion. Otherwise you’ll be stuck in the old depopulated wasteland, while all your guildies are grinding for their glider.
Tbh, I kinda miss all those server-wide zerg events in S1. They really brought servers together during community events.
@Isslair – In your opinion, what is the reasoning for GW2 not becoming an esport?
The reason is – masses prefer F2P MOBAs with casual 20 minutes creep farming. You should’ve abandoned this “esports” dream a long time ago.
I kinda have a similar problem in unranked arenas. Almost every match is really one-sided. Something in range of 500-100.
Even in soloQ days I had more interesting fights than now. Now you either completely destroy enemy players, while they try to zerg on one point, or you get those guys in your team and they can’t even win 3v1 against glass mesmer.
What’s the point of “training” with bad players? You don’t really learn anything. With current meta builds you can already easily plough through all the “play how I want” guys with totally random skills\runes.
Tbh, I think it’s the zerk comps that lack any kind of show value. It’s just about twitchy reactions and who presses the button first, with insta downs. Boooring.
Bruiser fights are a lot more exciting to watch, since then it’s the rotations, planning and overall strategy of a player becomes more important. Allowing to comebacks and other cool things.
Any condi spam just shuts down engi, I don’t even know what are you talking about. Any heavy CC shutsdown engi (dat 1 stunbreak so op >_>). Any mesmer\powerranger pew-pewing from some high ledge in teamfight shuts down engi, forcing him to blow defensive CDs and not doing anything.
It’s not that engi is OP, it’s just soloQ has so random team comps and people not trying to rotate against classes they counter. Btw not a single thief in my soloQ exp ever wanted to switch his class even though he’s not rly fitting in (all those Sizer wannabes, omg)
The thing is – hotjoins is where new players are introduced into sPvP. Ye-ye, all you elitist top1 ladder guys are too cool for it, but if you want to get some fresh blood for ranked q’s , GW2 needs a decent entry-level pvp-mode. That both teaches new players how to things properly AND is enjoyable for them.
Atm, hotjoins only teach people zerging. Like in almost every game you see 4 ppl stacking on one point, avoiding 1v1’s, ignoring undefended points, being clueless about map mechanics, etc. It doesn’t help testing builds (unless you want to test some uber bunker that can tank 4 ppl focus), doesn’t provide enjoyable encounters, doesn’t promote skilled gameplay. Just spectate till you join the winning team and then run in one blob. In the end it will only result in overall degradation of competetive pvp-scene.
The state of hotjoins is really miserable atm. If Anet truly wants to promote e-sports, they need to remove them at all (leaving only no progression custom arenas) and add unranked queue. With all the benefits of queues (no team jumping, leaving penalty, MMR, etc) but without that “pressure” that “new players” get from losing points on leaderboards.
Don’t argue with a veteran.
And how is “outlasting your opponent” (aka attrition) bad gameplay?
Any low risk-high reward builds are bad.
Well consider this:
You enter a fight with someone, you both do your basic damage rotation rotatin and land some hits.
As a power build you’re faced with a choice next. You either start to go on defensive, dodging, blocking, healing, but not dealing damage. Or you continue to pressure, while taking the risk with low health.
As a condi build you don’t really have such a problem. After you landed your conditions you can focus on just surviving for some time, while you still apply pressure to the enemy. It really promotes bad gameplay style of bunkering up and outlasting opponent.
From my point of view, the main problem of power builds is that you have to consistently land your damage. It is even more so for melee power builds. You can be kited around, pushed back, blinked out, dodged, etc.
Oth condition specs require a lot less successful hits. And once you land your conditions, they will deal the damage even if target dodges, runs away, goes to stealth. And since good condition builds are cappable of spamming tons of different conditions all the time, cleansing is not really that effective.
The difference in effort needed to pressure someone between condi and power build is quite big. And something definitely needs to be done about it.
Min\max people will always win.
Be it from build, food, class choice or ascended gear.
There’s like less than 1% that you’ll lose a fight in wvw due to gear difference. More likely you’ll be hard countered\outplayed\outnumbered, etc. Stop making up excuses and blaming the game for your own fails.
You’re obviously lying, or are confusing pve players with wvw players. The hard core wvw players I’m surrounded with do not have a full set of armour, or even close to a full set of armour.
Because they are NOT hardcore players, obviously.
Just simple logic: hardcore pvp\wvw player strives to be the best -> he uses best gear, cheesiest builds, best food. We had plenty of time to prepare for ascended armour, everyone who cared about being “the best” got mats ready.
If someone is not prepared to do that, that means he is NOT hardcore. Hence, their opinion on the problem doesn’t matter. Because if you’re not the top tier, then there’s plenty of other reasons to lose in a fight than 5% stat difference.
GvG/scrim/open field fight between a fully ascended guild, versus a fully exotic guild.
You’re either a serious full ascended guild for GvGs or just casual wannabe. Simple.
Open field has a lot of other factors to consider, before ascended gear becomes noticeable.
(edited by Isslair.4908)
If you want to be the best you can be in WvW it requires best gear and the best gear is Ascended.
If you want to be the best, you are prepared to do anything to be the best.
All the hardcore WvW people I know got their ascended sets very quickly and just moved on to play the game.
People, who complain about stuff being “too hard”, don’t care about being best, they don’t even try. They spend far more time on forums than actually playing.
So please, stop bringing up this argument. Ascended gear has no impact on core WvW playerbase.
PvE:
1) Ranger;
2) Engineer;
3) Necromancer.
PvP/WvW:
1)Thief;
2) Elementalist;
3) Ranger.
Good way to improve this would be to make the dungeon inlocking event a daily one. So people just do it once and it stays open for 24 hours. And all the participants get daily chest with the usual rare\green stuff.
From my experience its the stacking of Rings of Earth from 2-3 eles that kills people in melee.
for casual dps
Such words always make me cry inside.
Why would you ever do “casual” dps if you can do optimal dps.
Yes, other MMORPGs have had these groups, usually called “mercenary” groups or some other variation of the name, but they were also looked down on by people that actually knew better because they try to scam other players into paying for something they can do with friends, guildies, or more honest strangers.
Well, then do it with “friends and guildies”. If its so easy and doable, then go and do it.
Why do you join a group of strangers (who don’t own you anything) at last boss, who did all the work with 4 people and still don’t want to give anything for that. At least it’s time consuming and actually almost impossible for some pugs I’ve seen.
No one asks you to pay just to join a full fractal run. But for afk-leeching last boss – asking for payment is only honest.
So lets say you roll swamp first, your chance to roll dredge next will be higher than.
That would be a good incentive in my opinion.
So if you’ll still have a chance (doesn’t matter how small) to get dredge, why would you spend noticeably more time in non-swamp fractal?
It could work only if this was certain – like (if Swamp=first, then Dredge=third). But this won’t happen x)
And by the way, you can still jump into the button room without opening the gates.
Geting into that room was never the problem. Getting out is.
Three thieves. No way I’m gonna ever pug fractals now though.
They also fixed safe spots in the clown car room. But the dredge are still invulnerable during spawn and can still shoot through the car. I just don’t understand why do they fix bugs that help players and don’t fix bugs that are actually annoying and bad.

Dude, try to play an ele or a thief, just to have a perspective.
After those even full glass war feels like a tank. Especially now that we have OP sustain signet.
Even in zerk warriors are as bruiserish as it can be in GW2.
And no, there is no decent DPS outside of zerk. Any dps tha is not optimal is just unviable, that’s the way of dps.
(edited by Isslair.4908)
69% critical chance
We should stop all dps discussion right here.
I hope they’ll remove the charr turning in ascalon whatsoever. If I wanted to play a charr I’d roll a charr. This part of fractals is really stupid.
The amount of rangers who post here and say that “pets are fine” is a good exmple of why people don’t like the whole class now.
Losing 50% of your deeps to 1-shot that a pet can’t dodge is not fine (also, go and solo last boss in arah p2 on your ranger plz). Anet could at least make pets dodge together with ranger, that would be a start. Or make pets untargetable by certain boss mechanics.
(edited by Isslair.4908)
I find arah gorillas much more annoying. I’d want to have dat 5 seconds knockdown meself, to treat mobs with it.
It’s just because charr are bad guys as a whole. They butchered innocent Ascalonians, and in my eye are no better than dragon minions.
I’d vote for anyone (well, except sylvari) as long as it’s not a charr.
Nothing will stop clueless people from joining 30+ and silently following everyone hoping to get carried. Same old story.
If two people can duo the supposedly hardest content in the game then this game has much bigger issues.
This game has problems because people actually pay 20g for duo-able content. The content itself is fine, we even need more of lupi-level bosses with arah-level rewards.
Blocking all blockable ranged attacks for give or take 4 seconds on the melee train, is rather good for the group
Well, tbh, what ranged attacks do you actually have in a melee train scenario?
It won’t stop wells, mesmer lasers, guard staff spam. Rangers are unviable for zerg warfare, warriors don’t run longbows, eles spam aoes.
Does it block engi nades?
Feels kinda unneeded there.
I have a quick test now for pugs – I start talking in party chat and ask for a response from everyone. If people ignore me or start talking in non-english – I just leave.
If people actually communicate with you you can work things out. Otherwise it’s better not to bother.
This game shouldn’t have trinity, so I refuse to asume the role of team healer by getting warbanner. I play how I want, I take SoR.
I could think about taking it with organized party, but never ever with pugs.
(edited by Isslair.4908)
I can understand the temp content issue, but the zerg complaints confuse me?
What exactly do players expect when you remove hard trinity from game play? This is the result of not having a hard(classic) trinity in a MMO.
How does that relate to zerg content?
Anet could always make another permanent instance (and Molten Facility showed that they can add some really entertaining content there) with arah-level rewards (and lupi-level boss) so that people could add some variety to their daily dungeon runs.
But instead we get this stupid zergfest with soloable chambers.
I mean it’s an MMO, I want party content. If I wanted to do staff solo there’s plenty of that in single layer games.
At least Teq update required cooperation and was fun for a while, made me work with a lot of people from big guilds on my server etc.
Compared to that, Tower is just stupid and uninvolving.
Warrior Shield 5 with 10 points into defense reflects projectiles for 3 seconds.
Don’t even dare to say that you lack projectile reflection as a guardian. Just don’t.
First I was doing tower on my wvw guard, was surviving ok, but it was taking really long.
Then switched to my glass war, everything started to go down WAY faster and actually doing less damage to me in the end. It’s definitely zerk-friendly. The only problem is those pugs who scale the events but do zero damage in their tanky clerics gear.
I really like the idea of focus projecting a magical shield to block. This kinda shows that guardian is not a physical brute like warrior who just uses shield to block stuff, but rather a fighter with magical powers who uses magick to block.
Dunno what’s so hard about p1 skipping. I find deadeyes in p2 much more annoying.
A bit of advice on p1 run: either run first or wait until everyone ran through, then make you way. Because otherwise oozes can hit you while trying to hit the guy running in front of you. Running first makes a lot of skipping much easier.
Engi is an ok class at cap, for wvw and spvp at least.
But from all the professions I leveled, engi was the hardest one. Plain and simple.
Even on ele I can melt mobs in seconds in Pow+Prec blues from tp by simply spamming 1 (I won’t even start going about war and guard). With engi it becomes closer to dealings with vets while doing simple hearts.
Just try some other class if you have any other lvl 26, and see the difference.
Engineer
That’s your problem there.
But, but you can’t melee and dodge grubs if you play how you want :<
this build sounds worse than the almighty full signet build. You do understand these two utilities have pretty long CDs. Unlike the 25% passive speed signets of other classes, you cannot simply just slot them out before combat in a pvp/wvw environment. That means you’re sacrificing two utility slots for travel (still slow), instead of using them during combat….
Do you understand that you get that only for traveling from point A to point B? And that is only if you fear being ganked by someone. As soon as you get to your group you switch to normal utilites\weapons. And yes, you can change them quite easily. It’s less than 1 minute cd kitten . In wvw thats more than enough.
Yes omg-omg to run around you have to switch utilites and weapons. It was always like that. And getting 4 seconds of swiftness on the run is better than 1.
I can’t believe this is being called a “buff”. Convince me and everyone who think this is a nerf, whether the new supposedly “buff” will get you from POINT A TO POINT B in a shorter amount of TIME then the current symbol of swiftness will get you from EXACTLY THE SAME POINT A TO POINT B.
Currently using SoS on the run after retreat+sy is almost pointles. It can be even bad by getting you into combat. With the change running through SoS while having swiftness will help maintain it for longer. I can’t believe people don’t see it.
We are the new necros without damage. If someone see you is matter of time to kill you if you are tank/support and you are alone or far of the group.
If you are alone as a melee train guard, you use sword, gs, retreat and judge’s intervention to travel around quickly.
95% of guild groups won’t chase a lone target blinking away from them. 1v1 roamers will – but it’s their job to kill people 1v1 and it has nothing to do with balance.
I only used SoS to sustain swiftness, not to start it (we have retreat and save yourselves for that, if alone). So the change is a good one for guard’s quality of life.
In wvw we always use it on the run, while the party already has swiftness from static+blast. So in that regard it’s a buff. It was quite annoying to use previously.
Last time when we used lfg for cof p2 we got a guy who started raging at us when we started p2. He was like “wth, p1 you noobs” and then left.
Reading skills are very weak in pug people.
I didn’t say zerg fight, I said it was a 3v3 skirmish. No other class kills me in two seconds unless I have a stunbreak slotted. That’s exclusive to thieves.
It’s wvw. You have to take into account that there’s always a chance of more enemies popping out of nowhere and catching you off guard. Has nothing to do with thieves. Any class can finish you off if you have everything on CD.
Ever saw a full glass guard teleport into you with focus busrting and the WWing?
Bolas+HB zerk war?
Full burst from zerk mesmer?
It’ll down you in the same time.
What? You do realize the vast majority of classes can’t kill a toughness/vita build in the span of a single stun, right?
For majority of classes being stunned means loosing a significant amount of life and combat initiative, leading to a defeat.
But your class, whatever it is, apparently can outperform any other class (from your words) without even needing a stunbreaker.
So you’re tottally ok with facerolling against everyone without any defensive options, but still think that a single spesialized and situational thief build is op.
Gotta love the logic.
All this “I didn’t saw thief coming for me in a zerg fight – thief op” makes kinda no sense.
It could be a warrior stunlocking you, it could be ele perma CCing you, it could be necro perma fearing you. Hell, it could be a single immobilize followed by a melee train. In large fights things like this happen. Has nothing to do with a thief.
In a roaming 1v1 scenario this should not be happening – you must have some defensive skills, it’s not pve. Mistform\rtl\trollnado\armor of earth\lightning flash etc., etc. And every class has a number of those options. Deny the CnD or backstab and watch how thief runs away.
I don’t need a stunbreak when fighting any other class in the game
Let’s talk about broken classes, shall we.
