The "Honor" System

I dont think unranked are a big enough deal to justify a system like this.
I am not gonna stand aside because one guy on the other team:

-crashed/disconnected
-had to quit for irl reasons
-whatever

he might return or might not.
And no I do not enjoy playing against or with in a 4vs5.
Stomps suck, be it on the winning or losing side.

This is more of a system suitable for ESL matches, and that’s totally understandable.

The reason I mentioned unranked and ranked is so it’s clear that this should not be in hot-join so people can’t farm the reward I mentioned.

I understand that you feel that it’s unfair that you have to sit out if the system randomly selects you, but how do you think the opposing team with the disconnect feels about their 4v5? It’s really just a system to level out the playing field.

Again, I’m just spitballing ideas, and this could probably be perfected with more input from everyone.

The "Honor" System

If you have watched any tournaments held by ESL and the gw2 community you are familiar with the term “honoring”.

Honoring is when a player on the opposing team disconnects which leads to a player on your team “honoring” the un-even matchup and sitting out until the disconnected player returns.

If we could somehow create an honor system for ranked and unranked that is similar to the volunteer system in hot-join, may be this could be a solution to the every so often un-even matchups. The option to honor the match will be given to the first person to select it, and maybe it could give them an extra 1% towards there reward track or something?

Give me endure pain

To be clear, the title “give me endure pain” is facetious, I play guard at a high level even finishing second in the latest esl. The issue I’m trying to bring to the attention of Anet is mesmer.

Mesmer is just as powerful as grenade barrage and rampage when it comes to sheer cleave and rupts. I don’t find it right that I can spec purely to revive someone and only have 1 person on their team completely deny me.

If mesmer is the only class that can deny you then that’s the way it should be. You’re basically asking to be a God and have nobody counter your build. This is build wars 2, you can’t ask for everything.

Started playing bunker necro with 4 signet procs 2 wells and plague bm, spite, curses. Your going to get a lot of damage from transfers while still remaining tanky with soldiers amulet, easily reaching 25 stacks of might.

It’s not really a full tank since their are tankier setups. I think it’s a different kind of hybrid necro, your missing some power damage from crits and ferocity but your transfers should make up for most of the damage at the same time being an amazing defensive tool.

I prefer soldiers over celestial but cele seems to work pretty decently as well.

But in the days since the patch I’ve seen alot of complants about the damage, when to me it’s not the damage I’m having any issues with its the CC. Every decent team I’ve run into now seems to be the same thing. Mesmer theif pain train which now has like 10 dazes they can use on a row. There is no way to survive it. Then it’s usually one or two eles an engi and either a guard or a warrior. But those three are just there to stay alive long enough for the pain train to burst down every player on the opposing team due to stun daze cc lock.

I necro needs a hard counter and it’s CC always was, now there’s like twice as much cc along with an increase in damage.

There is a way to survive it…and its called stability. This meta is probably going to end up looking like the meta during ToL 1 i.e cleric bunkers who revive and zerker/condi dps.

Absolutely not!

If I get revived from my teammate multiple times it is the opponents fault for not putting down enough cleave damage to stop the revive. This change you propose takes away from team play, and is just a babysitting tactic that makes the game easier than it should be.

The problem with your B2P vs. P2P argument is you’re ignoring the cash shop completely.

The cash shop is what replaces the monthly revenue of the subscription model, while it may be optional the fact (supported by NCSoft’s financial reports, which you can download off their site) is people do spend real money on it regularly. Your argument only applies to people who haven’t spent any money on GW2 beyond the initial purchase or spend less than $10/month on gem purchases.

If you fit that criteria then that’s wonderful, you’re getting a great deal. So are new players who didn’t buy GW2 during the 75% sales that everyone assumed was to make it easier for new players to join in and get the expansion.

That’s not true for everyone.

Can you see why not everyone is happy with the price now?

So Arena Net can’t price their expansion at 50$ because a portion of their players are financially irresponsible?

And for the records, if GW2 wasn’t B2P, it would obviously have been free to play like most of the games I mentioned, and like most MMORPGs today. It lacks everything – scope, quality, polish, etc – to ever be P2P. Meanwhile, it already has most of the small little annoyances of F2P MMORPGs, like a heavy focus on microtransactions, selling gold for real money, log-in rewards, and so on.

Im not sure of the numbers now but Runescape had 1 million subscribers at one point, and if you have ever played it you would know that free to play is kitten compared to their pay to pay. Not to mention how much more popular Runescape is than guild wars 2 on twitch, if that means anything to you.

First off no, sub MMOs aren’t typical in 2015 they are rare and dying. Secondly, I would never have looked into gw1 or gw2 if they required a sub, I was happy with WoW so your arguement begins with non starters.

I own a collector’s edition I’ve bought gems I own a second account and I will not be pre ordering HoT that’s my decision as a consumer.

Ah, thank you for clearing that up. Enjoy your free PvP map, which you DO NOT have to pay for, according to the interview in TenTonHammer back in February. I suppose $50 doesn’t sound like much at all when you’re getting the only piece of the expansion that you care about for free.

Are there any other things that you’ll never have to buy that you think are a great deal? I’d love to hear about them (^_^)

Yeah I’ve leveled 3/5 characters to 80 through PvE, and crafted incinerator and howler through Pve. I’ve also got 10.5k achievement points. I’m on level 50 fractals. Any other smart comments you want to make? I’m pretty sure Heart of Thorns gives me access to Elite Specializations, which yes is a HUGE deal for PvP.

If you only knew how much PvP players asked to be able to queue from PvE again, you wouldn’t have made that comment. Look at my signature for god sake man.

I mentioned my purchasing gems because you said “I can’t believe that people who have been playing this game for 3 years can’t manage to support it further by dishing out 50$ for an x-pac.” vaguely implying that people who don’t pay $50 for the xpac aren’t supporting the game past their initial purchase.

I mentioned P2P MMOs because you did in your first sentence. “The typical MMO will charge you 15$/month as a subscription fee.” You’re correct in that there are P2P MMOs still exisiting and there are some P2P MMOs (like WoW) that charge similar prices for expansions. That’s not comparing apples to apples though. If you compare a B2P MMO or even a F2P MMO’s expansion cost they are typically lower than $50. Which makes the $50 anet is charging for HoT seem out of place when you look at its competitors.

$50 is a GREAT price for new players getting the base game and the xpac. However, it’s not good for the xpac alone. If the Core game and xpac were 2 different codes, letting you create a new core game account by itself, this might be a different discussion. I don’t see how the " the only arguement I am seeing is that HoT comes with base game" is when I mention that the price isn’t comparable when I mention those other MMOs with lower xpac costs. I have 3 arguments. I lettered them.

You can’t judge a game on what content might be there. You can only judge on what you are shown. In the perfect world anet is hiding a core game’s worth of content for the release date. In a practical world a sensible person would judge a item on what they can see, instead of what they hope they might get.

Buying gems with real life money is completely optional. Yes that supports the game, but you do not need to whatsoever. Making gold in guild wars 2 is very, very easy. I said “support it FURTHER”, which implies that you are already supporting the game. Yup read her again.

Okay, B2P, and P2P. In a world that didn’t have B2P, there would only be Free to play, and Pay to play. THAT is the scenario I gave you. I realize you lettered your arguments, and I shot down all 3 of them, they aren’t strong points. Anet said they will refund players who purchased the game recently.

Yes you can judge the game based on what is shown, but you can not judge the game based on what you have not played. I never thought I would invest all my time into PvP until I tried it 1.5 years ago, but look at me now, all I do is PvP.

I’ve bought gems with irl money, bought multiple accounts and I purchased the game at launch. I also bought all of GW1’s content (outside those mini-missions that took place in the past). Specifically I bought 2 base game accounts when they were on sale in the past 6 months. I’ve supported the game. Also we’re now in the era where P2P isn’t a viable model for most MMOs. There are plenty of F2P or B2P MMOs like Rift, SWTOR, ESO, TERA and Aion. The last two are F2P and don’t charge players for any new expansions (including new classes). The rest certainly don’t charge $50.

I’m not sure if you’ve read any of the threads, but people are complaining because:
A) The expansion comes with the base game for “free” despite the FAQ never mentioning that. I doubt many people would have bought accounts these past few months if they new they were getting one for free with the expansion. This also does nothing to help current players, the ones who have been supporting the game, enabling them to create HoT in the first place.

B) Compared to other MMOs and even GW1’s expansion (GWEN) and campaigns the price of HoT doesn’t match the size when you compare it.

C) There’s still plenty of content they haven’t shown like the rest of the specializations, what this “challenging content” is, how many maps we’re getting. I generally dislike pre-orders, but I dislike them even more when the dev wants us to pre-order without knowing the specifics of the main portions of the content is. Unless we’re far, far from release I don’t see us getting 3 years worth of content from the expansion based on what they’ve announced the game will have and what they’ve shown us. But neither of us know what’s left. We can only make assumptions on what they’ve chosen to show us. Collin did say in an interview with Angry Joe that all the major content was announced so I don’t think they have any secrets left.

To start my reply off I’d like to tell you that buying gems with irl $ is completely unnecessary, gw2 is probably the easiest game to acquire currency in.

I agree P2P isn’t viable…but guild wars isn’t pay to play so I don’t know where you are getting at with that. There are still plenty of games that require a subscription fee. Like you said, we do not know whats left in store for HoT, so you simply can not compare it to GW1.

As a player I see where you are coming from, but from a business standpoint, making newcomers technically pay 100$ is ridiculous (HoT + Base game if it didn’t come with HoT). Be honest, the only arguement I am seeing is that HoT comes with base game.

People don’t consider all aspects of this notion. This will bring more players to Guild Wars 2, which in-turns improves player enjoyment. For example: this will lower queues for PvP, stabilize the market etc.

I can’t take anyone serious because there only claim is “I payed for it already, why don’t you have too?”. Nobody wants to analyze the reasons, they just want something for nothing.

The fact that people have the urge to complain about the price is rattling. I can’t believe that people who have been playing this game for 3 years can’t manage to support it further by dishing out 50$ for an x-pac. “bbb-ut it comes with the core game and I had tttt-oo buy the core game separately”. Yeah well wouldn’t it be darned if Arena Net made new players pay 50 dollars for the core game, then charge another 50 dollars for an x-pac. That’s sure to reeeeel in the new comers! Doesn’t that sound like the best business model ever? “Come play our game for 50 dollars, but make sure to drop another 50 for the x-pac you won’t have when you buy it!”

To the people complaining about the amount of content we are getting for the price: you payed for the game once, and received 3 years worth of content, the enjoyable value of that content is subject to ones personal preference, but nonetheless, you will have another 3 years of MORE CONTENT. The only plausible argument I see is that we aren’t receiving an extra character slot and THAT is the ONLY problem I see.

Lich form & Plague need rez ability

I don’t understand why rampage (warrior) can enter this god mode and stomp and revive his teammates while us necros arguably have our own god mode (lich) but we cannot revive and we cannot stomp!

I know you can technically lich stomp but you have no idea how precise you have to be at timing it.

I main necromancer and I am fine with the changes. There were some unwarranted changes but for the most part we received good buffs. Everything you see in this core specialization is setting up the reaper for mayhem.

With regards to lich form duration nerf, I don’t even mind it. I rarely spend the entire duration in lich form anyways, because only a bad team will let you free cast in your lich. If you were to take spectral mastery you would have a 22.5 second lich so whatever, nothing to complain about. If you want to read REAL issues go to the necromancer forum and pay no attention to the daily Lordrosicky complaint thread that makes absolutely no sense at all.

My Thoughts On The Changes

I really like some of the changes they made but some were not what I had expected for example consume conditions being increased to 30 seconds. It seems as if they want us to take the master of corruption and plague sending. I think they are forcing a lot of builds on people haha.

Really glad they got rid of deathly invigoration as a grandmaster.

Blood is power is better.

The focus range increase to 1200 through me off because how do you expect us to land focus #4 when it gets obstructed by literally everything?

If signet of vampirism passive doesnt heal through deathshroud ill be a little upset.

I like that they reduced the cooldown of plague signet to 30 seconds as well as signet of the locust.

Unholy feast is going to be fun to say the least!

Spite traitline has ridiculously good Grandmasters.

A lot of solid changes, and blood magic is well…..only time will tell how effective necro rez botting will be lol.

Doom & Gloom

The signets are all right…but they are most certainly not OP.

Signets of undeath is weird…imho I think it should be scrapped and replaced.

Signet of spite is not bad for a quick considered burst but should be reduced to 45 seconds.

Signet of the locust has potential for lifesteal builds so we will have to see what is going on with the blood magic changes but I think the passive should combine with a minor trait just like elementalists received. Then make a new passive for the signet.

Plague signet is not bad at all but can be really really punishing if you happen to steal that tick of burning when you are really low HP or if you are being chased and steal someone’s immobilize…imho I think all self inflicting conditions need to be removed from necromancer skills because let’s face it, necromancer is one of the most unforgiving classes, we CANNOT mess up in a fight or we are done for.

I ask myself every kittening day why the kitten did anet trap us in the prison that is HoTM.

I actually know why though because Evan told me that people would be stuck in loading screens when their queue went up so they would miss the option to press okay.

Which is a stupid reason because that could easily be avoided by having everyone lock into the match within 1 minute instead of 15 seconds.

Reaper potential killed with dash changes

I’m sick and tired of hearing all this reaper just got killed by this nerf. Yes this nerf sucks kitten, but have you taken a look at our incoming traits and current chill durations?? Even if they try to kite with a movement skill we should still be able to gap close just by running. The only class that will have a hard time to catch is great sword warriors and thieves.

Of course I looked at new traits and skills. They’re all long casts except reaper’s shroud 1 is a beast. You also wont catch any medi guardian and d/d ele a staff mesmer with his Z-axis teleports. That leaves you with catching only engi and ranger, and the latter can kill you before you get there depending on terrain and LoS possibilities. As a necro main I’m primarily concerned about the reaper of course, which is why I wrote on this sub-forum. But the main idea of my post is trying to understand how a developer can make a game based on dodges and blinds which encourage counter-play but implement such a change after 3 years which discourages you to actually think and use your soft CC when it would be most effective.

I still don’t think you are putting everything into perspective. We can’t even catch d/d eles right now and medi gaurds are not hard to catch at all. Judges intervention requires a target. If you let an engi kill you from 1200 range you’re dumb for not gap closing onto him. It’s a dumb change but its not a game breaker for necro.

All Classes Need Good Mobility

I think we all need good mobility to an extent, and I honestly think most classes have got that. Except the necromancer. Their mobility is not even close to decent. Make flesh wurm a single person portal or make it a one click ability like lightning flash not 3 clicks.

Massive necro nerf. If true. Probably biggest necro nerf since release.

there have been way worse nerfs to necro than this one.

But this is indeed a dumb change. This takes away the whole idea of movement impeding conditions. WTF ANET??

Typical arena net to nerf something without giving a logical explanation.

When in PvP if you use your plague signet the condition damage that you transfer does not show up on your screen or the combat log. I think the damage still goes through though.

Plague signet is on the necromancer.

Thieves need a fix.

As a necromancer main who probably has the hardest time fighting thieves with all the blinds and headshots I am confidently saying that there is indeed counterplay to thieves.

Thieves are a very squishy class and just like every profession you fight you should be able to predict what they are going to do next and that is how you capitalise on killing them. Currently d/p thief is meta and is A LOT easier to kill than s/d. When you see a thief use blinding powder to heartseeker into stealth, you should chill/cripple or CC them before the stealth goes off. If they manage to get the stealth off you need to play aggressively when they open with their backstab while anticipating the next stealth. Its actually so simple.
