AMA Question: Now that Palawa Joko dominated Elona, is he still an evil leader? Is there a possibility we may remain allies with him?
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
Hell I would even say Master Togo was a bigger hero than her (ended 1 war, schooled a new generation of heroes, sacrificed himself to save his half-brother). If anything Trahearne is not the Kormir of GW2, he is the Gwen, which is far far faaaaaar worse."
To be fair, Gwen was interesting for some players, and she was an incredibly powerful hero. She looked nice in her alternate armors too!
Please don’t compare Traderp to Gwen because Gwen and Norgu kicked major kitten when my Necromancers were on vacation!
Flying around, smiting some harpies and hekets? Yeah, would have been fun, but I guess the PC was overpowered enough, making him a god is pointless, he already is a physical god.^^
GWAMM: God Walking Among Mere Mortals!
Would like to know if this is a bug or not.
Ever since the last patch weird squares appeared in WvW. I tried restarting the client, and changing my ingame graphic setting. Nothing on my graphic card was modified and this is only since last patch.
Is anyone else having this?
Kormir is more of a buttmonkey instead of a hated character.
People like to make to make fun of her, but we don’t actually hate her. It’s kinda like Master Togo who isn’t a bad character himself, but due to cheesy dialogue he becomes a joke.
Need I remind people how hilariously bad some cutscenes were? (In a good way.)
Traderp on the other hand is just bad.
stuff
Trahearne makes me hungry. I want some salad! Nom!
In all seriousness, I would like to know the inspiration behind his character. It would make me like him more if we could see “what could’ve been” that they wanted to capture.
Generally writers are able to make very great stories. But due to executive meddling, their visions aren’t able to come to life.

What I don’t get is why the personal story hypes up the risen to be “intelligent” (resorting to advanced battle tactics and mesmer magic) while in open world they act so stupid that even NPCs remark on their stupidity.
I would have loved to see epic battles where risen were more co-ordinated.
When I use to farm adult karka, they never dropped anything good. With t6 mats worthless now, they still don’t drop anything good.. Do they?
Please explain to me how to profit well off of this.
Also how do you tell differences between male/female?

Can I please have a link to a story about avast “incident”? I can’t find it on duckduckgo.
Someone PLEASE link me a news article about the avast malware incident.

Trahearne is worse than Kormir because Kormir still acted humble and appreciated the struggle of your team. She also did a lot behind the scenes.
Meanwhile Trahearne is an outright coward who is too scared to do anything after his selfish “wyld hunt” is over and whenever the Pact is attacked he tries to shove it in your face how they’re coming after him and only him.
He is just too dang condescending to the player and that is why he is worse than Kormir.
At least with Kormir you felt her desperation, she felt real, and she had a voice that didn’t bore me. Kormir also had an interesting conflict of repent after being the original one to cause nightfall.
It pains me to say it, but Kormir was actually a decent character. But Salad-Head….?
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
What was the inspiration behind Salad-head Trahearn?
What happens if precursors are easy? Then people will rightfully complain about lodestones. Especially charged lodestones. Which I believe is justified because the design is illogical in the first place with only 1 TEMPORARY mob in the entire game dropping it and rarely! (WHAT were they thinking!?)
Unfortunately I cannot make out what’s in the screenshot. Do you have any more?
However, I do know they removed the dev area below and replaced it with a swimmable void (as evident if you try to access the “fractal limbo” from the Dredge Fractal.)
When you try to access other fractals from the “outside” they aren’t completely loaded and thus’ look odd.
Do note much of what’s in this video has been “fixed”/removed, but some stuff remains.
This is a very interesting screenshot about ANET’s stance on it at the time it was occurring.
You know, looking on the bright side, I don’t think we’ll see something like this repeat again considering the blowback.
If it prevents people from further exploiting the game over being afraid of more justified permanent bans, this will have been a huge success, I agree with you on that.
Actually, I mean to say ANET will probably test things out better before releasing it to the public and punishing the players for dev mistakes.
ANET obviously isn’t doing permabans for kittens and giggles because they are bad for their reputation. And it’s a pretty awful way to wrap up Christmas too.
So using common sense, one can only assume they will try to avoid this mistake in the future.
A part of me believes we will see this change in the upcoming “expansion worth of content.”
You know, looking on the bright side, I don’t think we’ll see something like this repeat again considering the blowback.
And please make more sense when defining an exploit.
That is exactly the problem. The definition of exploit is based on the intentions of the developer. Which makes the line between using a game mechanic to your advantage and abusing said game mechanic very very thin. Any creative thinking or strategy on our side is a potential exploit. Because we have no way of knowing what the devs were thinking when they created the content and whether they had our knowledge/ideas. This particular case proves it. They missed smth that according to half the people in this topic is very obvious. And that’s the scary part.
Well even if they did state the Snowflake Opportunity were an exploit, it’s like leaving $1000 on the street and telling people not to touch it.
Like I said: The press does not care about the ToS. People on the forums can argue whether or not a ban was justified, but I don’t think we can say the same for people outside the game and forum. So I am very worried this will ruin the game’s reputation.
Whilst I realize we did agree to a ToS, I do hope ANET realizes what they’re doing will give the game very bad press.
Let’s be realistic here. This is not an exploit. It’s just extreme negligence before releasing the update. And now they’re pointing at the ToS in an attempt to cover up their mistakes.
Look ANET, I’ve played your game for many years. I love you guys. But please be more careful when releasing updates. And please make more sense when defining an exploit.
The press does not care what the ToS says.
Okay then. While we’re at it, I would like to know if using Karma Boosters to get extra Karma is considered an exploit.
This actually is a valid question too.
REVIVE orbs are intended to REVIVE you.
Snowflake Jewelery were NOT intended to allow you to GAIN free Ectoplasm Orbs.
How you can even being to draw a comparison is beyond me.
So why do Snowflake Jewelry drop more than 1 ectoplasm when you salvage it?
All I want is a confirmation whether or not using Revive Orbs at Jade Maw is considered an exploit.
REVIVE Orb.
What other intended use could it have other than to REVIVE you?
I don’t want to come off as a troll, but they banned people for crafting Snowflake Jewelry and salvaging them.
What other intended use did they have for Snowflakes than crafting? What uses for salvage kits besides salvaging?
So I’m wondering whether or not this is an exploit too.
I ask you again:
How is using a Gem Store item for it’s intended purpose an possible exploit?
Because the player does not know if it is intended or not since it normally OHKOs the player.
Not sure if serious…
Why would it be?
Because it has a huge impact on the game economy and it will normally OHKO us without using revive orbs. Hence, it might be an exploit too and I am worried they will permaban players.
I am hoping a staff member can confirm whether or not they will ban players for Revive Orb at Jade Maw.
I’m worried if I play on high level Fractals like 60+ I will be banned if I use a revive orb to resurrect at Jade Maw.
Is this an exploit too?
- On one hand, players have been warned not to not exploit the economy and report and suspicious activities that might break the game. Punishments must be enforced to prevent future abuses. Protect people who didn’t exploit.
Except this wasn’t some overlooked NPC in the middle of nowhere.
This was a highly tested crafting recipe which stood out. If it was not tested, then that implies large incompetence.
They might as well ban people for playing high level fractals and call it an “exploit” because people can resurrect with revive orbs.
Since this is such an unintended exploit, I think they should just fire the person responsible.
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
Seriously? Permabans for players who are playing the game as intended? Unless it wasn’t intended to create rare items to salvage them? So what the heck did ANET even intend people to do with their useless Giver items? Wear them?
I’m sorry, but I cannot find any reason to defend them. Unlike a single karma NPC, this was something I’m sure was tested thoroughly, and thus’ intended. The fact they left it in for weeks makes this even worse because again: What the heck did they think players would do with the craft items?
I’m really getting tired of ANET banning players because ANET adds something into the game and later regrets it.
Will they start banning people who play high level fractals too? How about people who transmute cores into lodestones? I’m sorry, but this is just ridiculous!
I’m not even the one impacted by this, but after playing Guild Wars for 7 years, I’m very disappointed!
Race: Sylvari
Sex: Male
Class: Guardian
Armor set: Twilight Armor (heavy)
Hey. There are severe clipping issues with male TA Heavy armor. Specifically on the Sylvari. Here’s the ones I would like to report:
1 – Holding Greatsword clips through skirt
2 – Holding Staff clips through skirt
3 – ALL shields clip through the horns on the back of the chest
In addition, the skirt CHANGES SIZE in a very awkward and annoying way when wielding any weapon. It’s hard to describe, but this is a very awkward problem common to all Sylvari characters around their waist. In some armor they look “fat” and in other armor with trenchcoats it looks unnatural when they run.
However, one running+scale problem specific to the TA Heavy Sylvari skirt is the fact it DETACHES from the front of the character… As in, the front part normally connected to the front of the chest starts flapping off of the armor.. I’m not sure it was intended and it looks weird.
The stretching only occurs when wielding a weapon!
Considering TA armor is supposed to be made for Sylvari, I’m very surprised the armor has so many issues with the one race it should have worked perfectly with.
I spent 40g craft-leveling this too and 1000+ TA tokens only to be disappointed with the issues! T_T
Please fix it. Thanks!
Well using a full combination of Giver armor + Giver Jewelry, you would have around +24% boon duration.
However, since the jewelry is a magic find item, one has to wonder whether or not ANET actually intended this to be a serious armor set or if it is an inside joke?
On one hand it seems like an obvious joke. On the other hand if someone digs through dev tracker long enough… They intend us to play with “well-balanced” stats including magic find… shudders. I don’t want to correct people who specialize in game-design, so I hope they don’t genuinely intend us players to use it.
I found it very odd that there would be a Tengu NPC in the Heart of the Mists since the only other NPCs there are that of playable races. His dialogue also seems to hint at them being playable. What do you think?
Same issue. Medium 42k gloves on Female Charr. Except I use Pottery dye instead.
I also crash if I do some unequip-reequip stuff.
Sometimes I wish there were a token refund system.
I spent 40g craftleveling a Sylvari Guardian and 1000+ TA tokens buying TA Heavy armor only to find out it clipped with.. EVERYTHING!
The armor LOOKS sexy in the preview but in combat the animations are just… Did they even test it? If Sylvari is the intended race to be using TA armor with, why make the heavy armor clip with ALL Greatswords and Shields!? And if the heavy armor clips with every single shield in the game, was it really worth it to have those horns on the back?
Since it clips so badly, can I please have advice for better Heavy armor on a Guardian which looks “icy” for using the Coldsnap wand and Jotun Greatsword? Thanks!
I agree he should be a Dynamic Event. Most people I know just evade him or get another person to distract him. I don’t know if ANET intended that or for players to actually kill it.
What exactly did they intend?
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
That guy who soloed Giganticus Lupicus is gonna have a field day once he starts dungeon running…
So what about all the people who transmuted their legendaries to use berserker stats? They wont be reverted back to legendary?
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
WVW needs to get the heck away from PvE monthly achievements. It does nothing to benefit actual WVW play other than distract me from playing with my team so I can kill invaders and get my monthly. It’s also the most time consuming monthly to get.
Well apparently level 80 endgame in GW2 is supposed to be about a war against Risen where they are constantly pushing back and forth against us and the reward is supposed to be from completing the chains and defending.
However, rewards are very abysmal and Orr is not what it was hyped up to be. Malchor’s Leap for example is used for nothing but Spark farming and Orichalcum.
Hey guys. I heard they will be upgrading legendary stats to ascended stats in the future , and fixing the legendary -> exotic color when transmuting as well.
But is it safe to transmute The Predator (legendary rifle) to the stats of a Berserker Exotic rifle for the stats? Will my legendary still be affected by the update and “restored”?
I really want to use The Predator but my build uses rifle with Berserker stats instead of Soldier. So I’m wondering if it will be a mistake to transmute it now instead of waiting until the update? Or am I safe to do so?
Thanks!
if you reached out of bound and instantly fall for infinity of time where all your fast travel is disabled so that no matter you logout and login your cha is still falling…. you get what i mean, i prefer in swimming state so i can still fast travel myself to somewhere safe…
Oh god.. Infinite falling into a glitch-zone and not being able to travel out of it scares me O_O
From Super Mario 64, to Guild Wars 2. Whenever a player manages to reach out of bounds, there is always invisible water to swim in… Why?
I’m just curious from a game development standpoint why they make it so accessing an out of bounds state causes a character to swim?
Because in most games, the world development starts with a static square of water, on which land is built through various means. This is equivalent to sea level on our earth. A lot of the times, even though there are no water textures, this water level continues on infinitely and, since the swim animation is called once you touch the water level on a certain point on your character, this leads to the impression that you are swimming in empty space when you leave the bounds of what the developer wanted people to see.
Just my assumption on why it happens, not fact.
I’m slightly confused by your explanation. Development starts with a simple space of water…?
Zelda 64 handled a similar swimming-in-air system but not in the debug maps. In the debug maps you get warped back to spawn. But obviously Zelda 64 is very different from GW2…

Just curious why they do that. I could understand why they salvage armor, but why deleting toons? Just to be mean?
I’m thankfully not a victim, but reading other peoples’ posts, I just wondered why they do that.
It could be that we have secret GM’s, and all the better to catch them that way….but if so, they could be doing better.
To my knowledge, bots purposely abuse report features to spam up and clutter GM inboxes. By removing means of direct contact, they are able to counter that spam-strategy bots use against GMs.
It does not affect anything at the moment. Except for a few useless NPCs in the home instance. In other words, nothing important. Choose which you like best.
This doesn’t make her bad, I felt this was a more realistic approach to storytelling as far as her character arch is concerned.
To be fair, Kormir did a lot of things behind the scenes. So I can sorta forgive her.
Trahearne is just unpleasant though. Sure Kormir became a god, but Trahearne is very rude to the player and he thinks the world revolves around himself. I’m not saying that to make fun of him, but because Trahearne’s dialogue actually is incredibly rude. Play through the story again and read what he says if he doesn’t make you fall alseep.
Kormir is miles better than Trahearne in my opinion.
Agreed, I’ll have to catch the instances in Trahearne’s dialogue but he is a bore. I can understand his reservations about leading the pact but there were so many times I wanted to ask him if he would like to go home
>Monsters attack Fort Trinity
>Automatically assumes they want him and only him.
Just an example.

Here’s a really crackpot theory that disregards suspension of disbelief:
The mayans built the Hall of Monuments! Yeah, that’s right! The mayans!
If you glitch out of the Hall of Monuments you can take a better look at some of the textures used on the building. If you look really closely, you can find THE Mayan calender if you google images Mayan Calender!
Credit to Odinius.9826 for the observation and Xander.9024 for the screenshot. I edited it to show the calender ontop of the texture. They are symmetrical!
Very interesting considering Guild Wars: Utopia was actually going to be very aztec-themed.
Obviously the great writers of ANET did not decide to integrate the real life Mayans into the plot, but it’s still an interesting Easter egg to laugh at.
Assuming a thief is able to dodge (especially after so much practice as melee warrior), then is Berserker+Knight hybrid acceptable?
And because Thiefs rely on blind to help them stay alive, how do they combat bosses?
Somewhat related, but which race provides the best racial skills for them in PvE? I was considering Asura but not sure…
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
After leveling my guardian to level 80 (craft leveling cough) I came to the conclusion that its playstyle really wasn’t for me and I couldn’t figure out WTF I’m trying to accomplish as a guardian.
I’m not a big fan of spellcasting clases. Instead I prefer more simple, direct, up-front roles such as Warrior who is able to deal straight out DPS and CC while having access to simple party support (press #5 to vigor allies and weaken foes, or #7 to For Great Healing my party.)
My current max characters besides Guardian are my Warrior, Engineer, and Ranger. However, I’m looking for something a little more useful for Fractals besides Warrior.
I’ve tried out Shortbow and I am absolutely in love with it. The thief will not replace my Engineer for farming, but the shortbow has definitely proven itself to be a super weapon.
However, I’m concerned we are locked into Sword/Dagger for melee because dagger can only strike one foe, whereas Sword can strike more than one at a time. Is this ever a problem for Thiefs? If so, Sword/Dagger versus Sword/Pistol?
And is there ever a reason to NOT use an Off-Hand? There seems to be exclusive skills for when not using an off-hand. Were they added just for the sake of, or do they have a purpose?
I also hear Thiefs are not only great for stealthing the team in speedruns, but also spread weakness, blind, and other supportive abilities. Could someone please elaborate on these options to support my team as a Thief?
And Pistols. Are they really as bad as everyone says they are? Especially Unload? I hear it’s better to use Shortbow than Pistols for single-target damage?
My general playstyle is to run very high critical percentage. On my Ranger I made a hybrid of Berserker jewelry+Knight armor. But would such a set be too “squishy” on a Thief even though my taste is a burst-damage role?
So.. Is Thief a class for a Warrior-loving, Guardian-hating, high damage player like myself?
