why are dungeons dead?

I want to do them for the accessories and armor pieces, but I can never find a LFG open for anyone. Every LFG I see is seeking experienced players. I find this sort of an odd spot to be in because I do high level fractals daily and occasionally raid, but have rarely done dungeons outside of COF and AC. I regret not getting them done earlier, but I had a bad case of anxiety when I first started playing gw2.

What if I told you you can create your own LFG?

:o

The items are more of a luxury sort of thing that I can live without. I’d rather not wait for god knows how long.

Does anyone have tips when it comes to self control?

I’ve just finished my 5th legendary today and I realized that every time I come close to finishing one I sell nearly everything in my bank. To get the last bit of coin for the howler I sold off some matrixes and agony infusions I probably could be using for +5 stat infusions.

Doesn’t need to be changed, there are many options. Lets go through each ascended item provided by laurels.

Rings

For rings, they’re significantly easier to get than they once were bar the new Heart of thorns set.

Each fractal daily is rewarding 1 pristine relic per box you open. T4 runners are getting 14 a day which is more than we can spend. You only need 10 per ring, so even if you do T2s and the daily rec you’ll have both in 3 days.

You can also go through the new Bloodstone fen map if you want heart of thorns stats.

Amulets

There’s little to no reason you’ll need them unless you’re a min/maxer or want a small drop/karma/exp. They no longer have an AR slot so your fractal pug wont care. No raid is going to reject you over 1 item socket being exotic.

Accessories

If you’re running condi, you can use the sinister set from living story season 2. I personally know the viper horror necro build uses them with their thorn rune set. If power build set there are assassins accessories only available through dungeon collections. If you want berserker stats I’ve got nothing. However, exotics aren’t far off. Also you can run the fractal potion for 15 AR with the mastery which is around how much you’re missing by not having the accessories.

If you have a personal level of 62 and enough AR for 100, It wouldn’t be that hard to get this complete on your own. You’d only have to get to 76 to open the LFG. Maybe spam 12 lower level fractals like snowblinds on a daily day to 74 and then do the 75 and 100 on mai trin daily days. It might take you around 2 hours all together in play time, but the back piece is sort of a symbol you took the time to do fractals. In comparison the fractal back piece is significantly easier to obtain than the pvp one.

You need the exotic inscription to make the ascended inscription so you didn’t waste it.

On the exotic vs ascended debate it depends on what you have on hand. If you’ve got ascended boxes or money, just go for the ascended version. If you’re struggling on money craft the exotic or do what I did and run berserker GS until you have the materials/boxes for the set.

On the stat swap vs straight crafting debate, they’re almost even with straight crafting being cheaper by a few gold. I however think the straight crafting requires a bit more grind as you need fulgurite. However, I was already stacked with fulgurite so I straight crafted my last remaining pieces that I didnt box and swap.

Just wondering if the expansion helps in acquiring ascended weapon/armor. Thanks.

I had ascended armor before expansion, so maybe I’m not the best at answering this. However, there are tons of places to pick up gear imo. High level fractal seems to drop a piece of armor every other week. Elite specializations collections reward an ascended version of their new weapons. A few of the collections reward ascended armor/back pieces. New bloodstone fen rewards stat selectable back piece, ring, and amulet. Then there’s also raids if you’re up for that.

It’s actually not surprising to see people with multiple sets. I’ve got 3 full sets on my active characters and like 3xboots/gloves/pants boxes on a character I use as a bank. I surprises me that some people still consider ascended not worthwhile. The cost of crafting them has even gone down since they were introduced.

Did my daily with a pick up group today and it was fairly decent. I will however admit this was one of those 170 mastery groups, so they definitely had their dodge button binded somewhere. Our comp wasn’t that great, we barely had any might/vuln uptime. We even managed to kitten once when lag happened and Bloom jumped on two of elementalist. With a kitten comp and a wipe we still managed 36 minutes which is an average of 12 minutes per fractal. I consider this rather reasonable for end game level of daily. Hell my wvw daily took longer to complete today.

true, but you don’t need to explore every area to complete world exploration. Most of the jumping puzzles in the game are unmarked and open up a discover able area. I was initially confused when I got to 100% but like some areas were 174/176 or something like that.

AB multilooting is 45 minutes every 2 hours. Find something to do during the other hour and 15 minutes. Technically you’re losing money by sitting in LA during the down time. Farming for gold is well and fine imo, but there are plenty of things that takes you back to old maps. A month ago I was wandering core maps finishing dusk crafting. Last week I was wandering all over the place making that cool bloodstone visage. This week I’m doing my 3rd map expo for the next set of legendarys I’m making. Today I retook the balthazar temple to buy obsidian shards. I might even take a detour on my legendary crafting and finish the last 5 specialization collection I have left to finish. Plenty of stuff to do, just need a bit of imagination.

New Necro casual PvE build help

KickzNGigglez.4958

Utilities: I personally would take rise, poison cloud, and epidemic. The biggest problem with overdoing the minion side of condi builds is that it lacks cleave damage. While running in the jungle you’ll find yourself swarmed easily. It might feel bad giving up a bunch of minions, but the amount of shambling horrors from rise usually is more than the vanilla minion master loadout.

specializations: Unfortunately if you want rise, you need to take reaper. I’d drop bloodmagic for this. Take master of corruption for the CD on epidemic and poison cloud. It also self inflicts additional conditions on yourself to transfer over with your dagger 4 or through minions for additional damage.

Gear: There’s really no reason to go vipers on half your gear. You want enough condition duration to get to 100% bleed duration. If you’re going to get viper armor, get the rest as well. There’s a few ascended viper stuff you can get in bloodstone fen by collecting blood rubies everyday so it wont hurt your wallet to get these. Usually you can drop a few viper pieces for sinisters, but I’m assuming you don’t want to be eating a ton of expensive utility items or want to spend money on an ascended set.

Here’s what I suggest http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNBLRD7khGo5Gs7GwbTg9GsUMYSfgQQHIKAMASAx9wiYSE-ThSAQBMc/hMqkLhq/0vDCwNVC2hTgQ+07ESlDA4BEkOTOCCYRA-e

Edit: yes, you need the cheese pizza. 20% duration on condition is a large chunk of damage. If you want to cut corners you can get a weaker version from the Permanent Portable Provisioner in WvW for 5 badges each.

KickzNGigglez.4958

I got 2 of them last month but I didn’t pay attention which chest those dropped from.
I think it is stupidly rare and should be obtainable by some other means and not just pure rng. Maybe add 4 tonic components to different chest with rare drop chance say, 1-3% and some components purchaseable with Pristine relics and matrices?

Making it purchaseable with no rng component would trivialize it completely because most serious fractal runners have tens of thousands of relics and pristines saved up, especially after the infusion rework.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be made trivial to obtain, or be made purchaseable. But it should (in my, and others, opinion) be changed so that you have the chance to actually work towards it. Most likely as an achievement reward, a hard one. Possibly a collection of completing all the fractal collections (all the minis, all the fractal weapons, all the gold fractal weapons, and Ad infinitum) or something similar. That would show prestige as it would show that someone has put a fair amount of work into fractals

You people are just going to flock to the forums and complain about how unfair and ridiculous the requirements are. Then they’ll go onto how the devs hate casual players and they’re going to leave the game because they’re getting mistreated.

So I spent 2 years of casual gameplay working on this among other small projects. I finally finished the dusk precursor crafting last week, twilight today, and Eternity 5 minutes later. Now that I have it, I’m at sort of a loss on what to do with it.

I could sell it for a huge sum and get another legendary. I already have spare ascended greatswords to transmute sunrise or twilight onto. Most importantly I feel a little disappointed in the differences between Eternity and the material greatswords. For such an long grinding journey finishing it, the rewards feel lackluster.

On the other hand I feel like I’d just be selling off hardwork for some gold. I wouldn’t have anything to show for it besides the unlocked skins. If the devs ever decide on working on an alternate Eternity I’d be devastated if I had sold it off.

Necro not optimal for fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: KickzNGigglez.4958

KickzNGigglez.4958

You’re right, but out of all the classes I usually take through fractals the necro has been able to carry bad players the hardest. I used to fractal on my mesmer and my warrior and hope that my team didn’t suck hard. Now it’s rarely a problem unless it’s swamp day or all 4 of them are below average (which still happens).

The necro bias does sort of annoy me though. A lot of new players are assuming if they’re playing necro they’ll be fine because everyone on the forums believes it’s a free pass. While it tends to be true sometimes, it’s not a sure fact.

The new Swamp [Merged]

KickzNGigglez.4958

Just did swamp with the healer + 4 necro squad. Usually they go well as everyone had stated. However, it definitely isn’t a free pass as everyone assumes. 3 of us definitely were well prepped for the encounter but our druid and one of the necros were just taking hits left and right. The encounter was mostly just picking their dead bodies off the floor. When we got to 25%, it turns out that necro didn’t understand the wisp phase and the druid got ripped just as it phase (lingering conditions phased it).

I don’t think swamp is significantly harder than any of the major boss fractals. Unfortunately, I think the main difference between swamp and other fractals is that you can’t carry multiple low skilled players as you need at least 4 competent players.

This got worse as mist items used to infuse items became buyable, making the window to higher tier encounters way too easy.

I’d support this. If you think about it the only real use in fusing the two swords together is being able to tell the time. If for any reason I missed the twilight or sunrise sword I could always transmute it back.

t4 fractal… we cheese our way 4 MM & 1 druid(me) .. shut eyes.. pew pew .. hardcore! :P

I get into those groups sometimes and majority of the time it really is smooth sailing. However, realistically I’m not getting into a pug like that everyday unless I make my own lfg or get lucky. Nor does this really answer any of my questions.

Questions about PUGing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: KickzNGigglez.4958

KickzNGigglez.4958

So when I do play GW2 I generally try to do my T4 fractal daily because I enjoy them. Majority of my guild are on and off players so I find myself joining a pug for the majority of them. My experiences tend to be rather positive 90% of the time and end around half an hour. I’m generally okay with non-meta builds as long as they’re playing decently well and are providing something to the party. However, the other 10% tends to be rather frustrating, full of wipes and lasting well over an hour.

Today I was going to play on my berserker, but I noticed the group was 2 berserkers, 1 reaper, and a tempest. I decided to swap to my reaper to bounce conditions to make better use of our comp. One of berserkers said there’s no such thing as too many warriors, which I assumed was just a joke and even if it wasn’t, today’s daily was pretty easy.

First fractal was aquatic and things went smoothly till we got to the boss. The warriors were running spear guns so we got no might or cleave from them. Majority of the party was spread out so the a few small minions got past my epidemic because the boss spawns them faster than 17 secs. As soon as I got eaten it was a clown fiesta and party wiped as I watched from the inside of the jellyfish. I sighed irl, but todays dailys were easy and I didn’t want to wait for another group so I told them all to stay close so my epidemic would reach all the jelly fish. We barely finish it alive, but I stayed optimistic since they were willing to listen to my request.

2nd fractal was molten furnace which I consider the hardest fractal to mess up. I notice a few party members getting downed by the elemental burst attack, but figured that they just didn’t see the visuals. The mobs at the end of the tunnel also downed a half of them, but epidemic rekt’d them so we got through first try so I didn’t say anything. Once we got to the testing facility it was generally alright. A few players got low, but they all made an effort to dodge things. Only real criticism really is that the Ele never swapped to water and used her warhorn 4 or 5 on the people hurting.

3rd fractal was molten bosses which I assumed was going to be easy since we had 2 warriors to handle break bars and another Reaper to bounce conditions. The effigy wipes them around 30% hp left. I try to get a few of them back up, but they just went right back down. I manage to solo 20% off before going down myself as my wrist was starting to hurt from playing for so long. Fortunately it didn’t reset because the npcs were still alive and fighting so I was happy that there was only 10% left. I see it lifting it’s hands in the air so I look for the red circle and dodge out of it. I look at the party menu and notice all 4 of them were downed. I just solo’d the last 10% because it was clear to me this party was allergic to the dodge button. Finally made it to the boss, asked other necro which boss he wanted to epidemic. He told me w/e, which worried me because it’s very clear at this point that the group is just simply inexperienced. I decided to bounce the 2nd boss to just make things simple. We wipe at 10%, the breakbar was rarely broken and the Ele nearly instantly died every attempt. I figured 2nd attempt will be fine, the warriors just needed to break the bar a bit faster, Ele might just have lagged, the group could avoid just a bit better, and maybe pick up the Mistlock Singularity. Someone warps us in before we could even grab the Mistlock Singularity and we wipe harder. frustrated I just swap my elite to flesh golem and handle the break bar myself and the berserker barely dies from lingering conditions. It honestly would have ended less messy from my end, but my wrist had pretty done by the time we finished.

This frustrating experience made me question a few things that I’d like to ask the community.

1) Is it acceptable to just leave a PUG midway? I’m always hesitant to do this because I feel like I’m selfish in doing so. However, after 20 minutes on a single fractal I sort of feel like I just have to.

2) Should I give constructive criticism? I’m not a very social person. I’m afraid of confronting people and feel like if I pick at flaws I’d start an argument.

3) Should I carry pugs through high end fractals when it’s clear majority of the party is getting carried?

4) Do I expect too much from randoms in T4 fractals? Correct equipment, Knowledge of encounters, knowledge of class?

Poor toughness signalling In Fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

KickzNGigglez.4958

I don’t remember any patch notes that mentioned an increased toughness scaling. I think everyone has the right idea on dps loss due to the moving around. An infamous necromancer theory crafter Nemesis often used it as an example as to why the meta was a lie. I agree half way because it’s true that it becomes significantly harder to melee the boss down and you do lose tons of dps from trying not to die. However, if my team has a lot of range options like scepter guardian, scepter necro, staff ele, or engineer kits I’ve been able to keep up my melee rotations on my PS warrior. The drop in DPS mainly depends on the skill level of the group and the party composition.

Hi, I have a commander tag. I originally bought it before the prices went up and I knew it would be handy to hold onto. I didn’t really use it back then because I honestly didn’t know jack about the game. However, after the HOTS expansion I can say I’m definitely more well informed. I’ve definitely been using it whenever the situation calls for it.

OP has this odd idea that people aren’t tagging because they don’t want to share information or something during events. People don’t apple during events because they don’t want to make the map confusing. Personally during the events I’d rather have people join the commander as he/she should be the one they’re listening to.

I don’t tag often because I have anxiety dealing with people. However, I suck it up if the event needs a few more leaders. I even go as far as marking key points with the new symbols and explaining each step. While fellow commanders usually wont go as far, they’re usually willing to respond to questions if you just ask.

My personal opinion of apples is that they’re great for flagging small events or hero points you plan on doing. However, majority of the time they’re abused and generally just raised because the whole map was doing it. I’ve personally found it frustrating trying to commander when there’s like 30 apples on the mini map.

I think the main problem with most people struggling with it is either communication or adapting. Ask people if they’ve done the fight before. Assign wisp before the fight starts. Is your party going to bother breaking the bar? If so, do you have enough crowd control? If not, do you have a decent range option. Does anyone need a minute to swap builds or characters?

It’s best to add a class with more dps or utility. I’ve seen some crazy raids with like 8 tempest or all necros, but those were experienced raiders. A decently balanced group is best for learning runs if you even want a chance at reaching later boss phases.

Are we seeing more threads from you the next hours? While having a look into your posting history I can only discover complaints and not a single friendly word from you plus you are claiming that the majority of the playerbase wants changes. I personally think you are alone with this point of view or only with a few guys on your side because nowhere else than in your threads I can see such objections towards the game.

Most people just rage in game. They don’t bother with forums.

Most angry people rage everywhere they can. Most people enjoying the game are probably playing it.

Why would I play a Viper Reaper when I signed up for using the Great Sword as a PVE player?

Great sword isn’t terrible for general pve but in high end content condi has more damage and utility. OP also didn’t specify which type of necro she wanted so I just linked the most optimal build. Not every classes elite specialization is fully utilized for their optimal build in PvE. Engineers don’t even take scrapper for PvE.

I remember posting about how frustratingly hard swamp is when it first hit the daily rotation. However, the past two swamps I’ve done went rather smoothly. The big difference is I know what happens during each phase now and the pugs I’ve ran into were just simply more skilled.

With a little communication before the fight, everything gets a lot easier. Simple things like assigning wisp ahead of time. With 5 people you can even have a back up for whoever goes down. The timer is actually more forgiving than I had originally thought,

Also I’ve learned to be a bit more attentive to what my allies are doing. For example my first pug I noticed that one of the rangers was a bear bow ranger and the necromancer was pure axe/warhorn. I initially didn’t notice because we were doing aquatic first. However, as soon as we got to the cages in the uncatagorized and noticed the slow burn I knew the party wasn’t going to have a chance at swamp. I said “sorry, I don’t think this party will get far” and left. They told me I was elitest scum and I saw the same necro looking for a party 2 hours later while I was checking stuff out on an alt. It sort of worries me of what I’ve been carrying through fractals before.

Pretty sure most of the money made by normal players is still node farming and AB multi map still.
