Mesmer pull broken in certain places

I will say something odd was happening last night. I was at the tower to the west of our keep in FA borderland, and standing on the stairs where they go up to the wall – not even on the wall section – just on the stairs. Multiple times I got pulled up the stairs, across the top of the wall, and over the side.

“Well why didn’t you move?” – that was the only place we could target the 3 catapults placed directly against the wall.

It’s a serious flaw if the solution is “don’t use the defenses in place”. They are goddanm walls. They’re supposed to be used for defense. Right now they’re more of a liability to the defenders, and that’s just not right.

I never once had a mob wander back and regain health unless I was hiding for 5+ seconds in Shadow Refuge. What I DO have happen now is that our downed ability sucks donkey now.

They’re not the same set of 10 or whatever options. The whole list will change every day. And no, you couldn’t do the whole list yesterday in WvW.

(FIRST)10 WvW invader kills
40 kills in ascalonian zones – can’t, no WvW maps are “ascalonian” maps
40 kills in Norn(?) zones – can’t, no WvW maps are “Norn” maps
1 fractal – Duh.
5 sidekicked events(you’re downleveled) – Can’t – there is no downleveling in WvW at all
(SECOND) 10 salvages
(THIRD) 3 skill points – possible, but I usually get about a skill point per 90 minutes in WvW
(FOURTH) 20 gathering

So likely 3, max of 4 in wvw.
Not that I didn’t still go to PvE and finish it, but I’ve been doing the dailies in WvW only since their introduction, and only a couple times gone to PvE when it was slow in WvW and needed “healer”.

That being said, it’s still not going to be hard to do them.

You know what was really messed up? On Fort Aspen, we were stomping the opposition and had dragonbrand’s keep in EB (it’s fairly irrelevant, so I’m not going to QQ about this part) – they forced a restart and by the time we got back in and the whole way across the map the keep was taken.

Then SMC fell – and there were never even white swords. I was watching it on the map religiously because it was the next logical strategic move, and I stayed within site of one of the gates, scouting and watching my map. Not a blip. No orange swords. No white swords. Just switched.

Awesome.

Had a frustrating night. Between the FA thief abusing C&D on our EB keep to keep it contested all night, the eles clearing Mendon’s siege by jumping to glitchy spots on the wall, and FA players spamming /laugh and jumping on corpses in a most unsportsmanlike way, I can safely say this is the least fun WvW match I’ve encountered (and I was on henge for a while). I’ll see the rest of ’ya Yaks on the next reset night.

Yeah this thief was doing the same thing to DB the night(for me) before for a good 4-5 hours. So I went and contested the FA keep and SM WP. I could only manage that for 1/2 an hour before I got bored. If I am on and this is happening to us again in DB do not plan to use your WP’s in Eternal FA. I’ll exploit the wall c&d as well…

Magic word there is EXPLOIT.

Finally! You know, I thought I was going unnoticed. I was about to call it quits on the siege-stripping / contesting bit, but now I know that it’s actually worth while. Thank you for brightening my day =)

All joking aside, I’m providing a valuable teaching lesson on where not to put siege.

I just want to say, HOLY COW YB… I didn’t want to pick on you, but with how built up Ogre Watch was, I had to bring balance to the force between Dungeon runs. I think my count was 1 treb, 2 canons, 4 ballistas, 4 arrow carts, 2 mortars, and a catapult destroyed, just at OW. Plus 8 yaks or so.

Good lord you guys love your siege. I hope that rubs off on us FA’ers. Brother can’t get an arrow cart built for the life of me.

You can, but if you have an ability already granted that’s not usable under water, the ability is locked out instead of being reset to steal as it should be.

It’s an annoying bug, but only if you’re underwater =) So stay out of the water as a thief, for a plethora of reasons.

I get loot after revenge ends. You don’t get loot every time, like with any other kill, but it still happens.

If it was actually an actually random RNG, I’d be okay with it. But it isn’t. “Impossible” odds keep happening over and over. Yesterday I salvaged 8 level 80 rares in a row and got zero ectos. 5 guildmates doing speed dungeon runs, and the breakdown of loot was

5 rares, 2 exotics for one person
1 exotic one rare for one person
No rares for 3 people.

(and no one was using MF of any kind)

I know these kinds of “random” things can happen – but they happen all the kitten time.

Also… it might not be “disappearing” as much as “destroyed”. I regularly take my thief around and clear out enemy siege, and you would be surprised how much is reachable by a thief or elementalist.

Just to note, there is a hacker in FA’s midst.

Ele using perma stuns with some kind of item, this chase lasted for a kitten long while.

Yeah, that guy’s a guildie. Pretty sure he isn’t a hacker, he just lives for fighting solo against multiple people in WvW. He has a few youtube vids

I was there as well. There was absolutely hacking going on. Two elementalists getting back into the same tower and bailing – twice while I was there, and at least another two times while guildies were watching after I left. There were no portals, and we had full presence the whole time.

It was ridiculous.

You’re misreading the details of the armor.

Armor can only have one rune, but if you have multiple pieces of armor that have the same rune, you get the 2nd, 3rd, etc bonus.

When you’re seeing
(1) +10 power
(2) + 10% switftness on crit
(3) + 25 power
(4) …..

- that’s what happens when you have multiple pieces of armor worn with that rune.

If WVW ques are a bug, dont fix it.

I understand the need for queues. I DO NOT understand the zero feedback you get. Can you queue for more than one thing? How long will you be in the queue? How many people are in front of you? Answering even one of these would greatly improve the situation. I run in a guild of just 5 or 6 people, and even queuing all at the same time is no guarantee that we all get in within the same HOUR.

Frankly, when you’ve got two hours to play most nights, this completely ruins my play time. I’d like to do WvW, but if I could be in the queue for 90 minutes of that, then what’s the point? So I queue up, and try to find something to do in the meantime. Do I start a FoTM or dungeon run, knowing that I might have to bail at any point to do what I actually want to do?

I’m playing the game because I like WvW, and that’s it. If Anet can’t either give me a way to reasonably know when I can get in or provide some other mechanism to participate, then I’m done.

I’m not going to waste my time waiting for a queue to pop when some magic RNG in the sky decides I’ve pulled the lucky number to get in.

Give us the number of people in the queue before us in the map and the ability to queue a group for the soonest available map.

I’m very frustrated, and I haven’t used profanity. So go me.

Agreed. Especially since they don’t seem to have z-axis height restrictions, so someone can stand high on a keep wall, out of reach of AE and spam drop them. I was hoping this was going to be hot-patched, but sadly wasn’t.

About to hop on the band wagon if it’s “working as intended”.

Yup, I suck. I don’t really remember that people still play sPvP and assumed you meant in WvW. And I’ve played my ranger a few times after the patch where they boosted the run speed signet from 10% to 25% (among other changes).

But Ranger is currently more like a balanced role in sPvP. It’s not required but it’s not exactly uncommon and considered a liability. More or less the same spot the Thief is currently even.

Having played a Ranger for the first 3 months (almost exclusively in WvW after reaching about 70), I have to respectfully disagree.

Then, having leveled a Thief and played it for the past 2 months, I’d have to laugh at you, correct myself, and then fail at respectfully disagreeing.

Thieves are power-houses and a force to be feared, but not without their counters. Necros and Guardians (oh god I hate guardians) in any form are difficult to impossible if played by anything above a chimp level. Bunker Elementalists, 2H Warriors, and to some extent Mesmers provide a challenge. And some form of Engineer gives me trouble, but not sure which yet.

So there ARE counters. But for Rangers and anyone not covered in the above, it’s pretty much not fun, and fairly uncounterable. Also, anyone who wanders around half health during a siege. Those people are going to have a bad time.

Well, I hope that will be taken care of with the culling fix that is (supposedly) in the works. If a character were immediately visible when stealth was dropped it would make a world of difference. I’d almost go so far as to suggest that targets should be reacquired if they haven’t targeted anything in the meantime.

I can say that of all the teams we’ve been matched up with, FA fought the hardest with what they had. I admired their strategy and teamwork even when it meant we lost a keep to a well-timed golem rush. IoJ was the same way at one point, but lately on IoJ I’ve felt the exact opposite. I’m seeing people building golems in a sieged keep, 500+ supply wasted repairing walls instead of a single counter treb, and general kittentery. And then I’ve seen that type of behavior publicly applauded.

So. Besides the fact that I’d like to keep playing with the same group of people I enjoy, I think FA will be a fine new home. And anyone who doesn’t like it can suck it – if we’re just dead weight, then bring IoJ back up to a matchup with FA.

I’ll be brief because it’s a simple suggestion. FoTM, Cliffside (the one with the big giant you have to free) – the hammer. The longer you have the hammer, stacks of a debuff build up until it kills you. Use that mechanic.

For every second in stealth, you gain a stack of “exhaustion” or some other debuff that when it reaches 30, you are unable to re-stealth for 15 seconds. (fill the blank in with whatever seems reasonable).

This would not require changing the normal fighting play-style with the exception of some of the D/P builds. It would not require a new design, new functionality, or making thieves rework their play style. It WOULD eliminate long-term griefing / perma-stealth.

Just a thought.

There has been gospel truth from Anet directly that MF only affects what loot is on a corpse when it is killed.

There are too many currencies as it is. They should keep badges as the sole WvW currency. As a player who only does WvW, I’m behind gear-wise (as slight of a boost as it is) against other players who have done lots of fractals, and it doesn’t make sense to add additional time to bring that to parity.

I have about 1200 badges and maybe 600k karma or so. I’d love to see armor take one and karma take accessories or something along that line. As it stands currently, neither have much value.

My theory is there is no reasonable reason to play a ranger in a manner that isn’t a glass cannon. Because other classes cover the other options you have as a ranger much better.

Ranger damage, even glass cannon spec’d, roughly matches the damage of a half-bunker spec’d ele in AE damage, of a toughness spec’d thief in single target melee damage, and in single target range damage probably close to a toughness spec’d warrior. And far less group utility than any spec guardian.

Rangers have zero areas where they excel, and are mediocre to average in most.

I and the small guild I’m a part of (usually a 4 or 5 man) have been exclusively playing on IoJ borderland trying to hold a defense. Sadly, IoJ in general and the larger, zerg-ier guilds, such as DRGN in particular, seem to be completely allergic to proactively defending most days, so it’s always a struggle just to keep camps capped and siege refreshed.

I run a S/D + SB ranger. I’m only level 20 atm but feel very confident even roaming solo in WvW. They are a solid class.

Lolzers in my trousers.

Ranger is a bad class to start out on. It’s lacking self-synergy, and it’s an uphill battle all the way.

But if you like pain, go for it.

Speaking as an 80 ranger with 150+ skill points from wvw and an 80 thief with 50+ skill points.

Longbow rapid fire channels through their invisibility. Barrage is good too.

Most thieves don’t dodge while in stealth because they assume they are safe enough. However, part of the reason I use rapid fire while they stealth isn’t only to damage them, but more of a way to track them and keep them in front of me.

I honestly have no issue against thieves, but that comes with experience. One very important thing I do is spam my auto target nearest enemy to target them when they aren’t in stealth and not rendered. If you are against a p/p thief, roll ~2.5s after they stealth to dodge unload (almost a guarantee they will use this first). As soon as a thief breaks stealth, try and cripple/chill to get some strikes in and then go for your daze/stun to keep them from going in stealth. If they come toward you with dagger storm, don’t shoot projectiles at them and focus on your positioning for when they are done or burst them with a melee weapon (often find them extremely easy to burst with the greatsword) since dagger storm doesn’t do more damage the closer you are. I could keep going, with other possibilities/situations, but what I guess I’m trying to say is that this all comes from experience. Play a thief, learn a bit about them, get on WvW and get 5k kills and you realize they aren’t as difficult as they may have seemed.

Good advice – but one modification: Handling shadow refuge.

First, learn how it works – until I started playing a thief, I didn’t know, and it hurt my wvw skill. Shadow refuge is that invisibility-giving bubble with a house graphic above it It heals and provides 3 pulses of stealth – so if the thief doesn’t have the trait to give 1 second to stealth skills, it will provide 9 seconds total of stealth – 3 while it’s active, and 6 residual. If they ARE traited for +1 second to stealth, it’s 12 seconds (39).

The most important thing though From the wiki:

Moving outside the area of the refuge while it is active triggers revealed. You will be revealed even if you were stealthed by another skill. Once the field has expired, leaving the refuge will no longer trigger revealed.

Use your allied thieves shadow refuge likewise!
But if you can knock the thief out of the shadow refuge, he’ll have the stealth debuff that keeps him from re-stealthing for 3 seconds. So if you can fear or knock him out of that, it’s huge.

If you have greatsword out, it hurts because you don’t have to have a target.

If you’re fighting a condition thief, god help you. I can’t even kill them on MY thief.

By the by, thieves are fun to play. Give it a try!

If you’re not running a 3 to 1 kill to death ratio in 1v1 encounters on a fully geared thief, I have to say you’re doing it wrong. Our stealth is already ridiculously overpowered. It can heal, remove debuffs, and grant speed. This one mechanic not working in our favor is like complaining that your new Lamborghini needs new windshield wipers.
