OMG. I left my ranger BECAUSE THE BOW SUCKED.

And I’ve stayed with my thief because if there was a bit of lag or something, I can pull my short bow out and count on sub-par but consistent damage.

This is unbelievable. Revert the change and add that mechanic in to every other profession’s bow.

I would absolutely love to hear the bullcrap reasoning that made this look like a good thing.

I’m here because I still care about rangers, having been my main and first love. However, being a long-bow ranger still isn’t viable. I go back and try it every now and then, full ‘zerker minus ascended, to test the damage in WvW. It still isn’t there.

For barrage comparison, my thief (in valkerie, not ‘zerker) can drop 5 cluster bombs in 5 seconds given the right circumstances – which happens quite frequently when attacking/defending – and it does 2.5k – 5k x5 targets x5 times and I’m still not quite out of initiative.

That’s 62.5k – 125k damage in 5 seconds.

Plus 3 stacks of 4s bleed per person per cluster bomb.

And it’s a blast finisher.

I’m not saying the ranger can’t do any damage. I’m just saying that at the best case scenario, it does fairly average. I hope the love they get in the next patch makes it worthwhile to play a LB ranger again. Because I miss it.

Hitting the pet doesn’t matter. Ranger pets are bugged underwater in that the pet, even if killed, can (doesn’t always) continue to rez even after killed. Add in the heal that comes from being on the surface of the water, and presto, unkillable ranger.

I know because I’ve been it =) 3 vs 1, and they eventually gave up.

I’ll admit. I’m extremely frustrated. I will avoid any details to avoid another infraction, but here is my recent experience.

Every single day for the past week in WvW, I have run across hackers – and I hate to use that term, as the game equivalent of a script kiddie doesn’t even deserve that term. I’ll just call them cheaters. Flagrant cheaters. Flying around, noclipping into castles, instant respawn at point of death, moving at 2 or 3 times max run speed, teleporting away 150+ feet after being downed, only to teleport another 150 feet when reach them again.

Most of these I have reported. Some I’ve been unable to get a target on, but on the majority I’ve targeted, right click the name, report, and …. And then I am reminded that Anet doesn’t actually give a rat’s kitten about it. How can they claim to when they don’t even have a category for exploiting, cheating, or hacking? They have no write-in to describe what was observed. So I’m immediately impressed with the fact that, if you don’t care enough to add an entry to a drop down, you probably don’t care.

Or Anet likes to make things hard for themselves – you know, a detective game! I wonder what this person actually meant when they reported them?
And the icing on the cake is that trying to resolve this like adults – find the guild leader of the guild the cheater is representing – no names given – it’s infracted. Fine. Don’t let us try to resolve our own issues – but then, for the love of god, do YOUR part if you won’t let us do it for you. And give us the option at least to report someone who is cheating and describe the specific cheat being used.

Why no stealth/revealed timer on icon?

As it stands the duration of revealed is not overly important. This is because it is a debuff that you cannot do anything about.

With a duration ring, it only takes a single glance at the icon to tell how much time is left, given a regular duration on the buff. For example, when I dodge-roll to get swiftness, one glance tells me how much of it is left.

With no duration ring on revealed, a glance does nothing – I have to sit and watch it at least long enough to see it blink out and back in, and even then I only have a VERY rough idea – basically what whole-second interval it is at.

This is particularly vexing when something triggers stealth without your direct intervention, like Last Refuge – it wasn’t part of any normal behavior, so I find myself spending longer than necessary watching the buff when I’m in a do-or-die situation.

Please, PLEASE give thieves a duration ring on both stealth AND revealed!

Anyone remember Warhammer?

The defense award should scale with the size of the attack as well as the size of the defense. It made people WANT to defend because their was a significant reward.

If your group of 5 defend a tower against 50 players, even if don’t kill any of them, you should get a butt-kicking reward. Instead you get “standard credit”.

If your group of 50 take a tower with no defenders, you all should get very little. Instead, you get “standard credit”

If your group of 50 wipe 5 people attacking a tower, you should get very little. Instead, everyone (who tags) gets full credit.

The risk vs reward is the reverse of what it should be.

The problem the OP is talking about is that even after the tower is retaken, the quest to start it is usually still active, and people can actively use Siegerazer to DEFEND (from the outside) their tower.

Once the tower is taken he needs to GTFO the map.

Ah, that makes me happy to hear. I wish I could convey to my server how important it is to apply pressure, even if you know it’s not likely to succeed.

With KN sitting on a fully upgraded, fully supplied SM, it’s literally and figuratively a fortress. A failed attack (which is probably what I’d consider the first push) that drains 1000+ supply is a success.

It probably also helps that I kept contesting SM + the KN Keep. Those guards hit hard =( I should send someone a repair bill.

I started that. Me and a ranger named W H Y Y helped build those first two trebs for stish and giggles. And defended them against 2 or 3 counter-trebs.

Then I had to go to bed.

Thiefs dont die…..they try to gank….and if that fails, run away with impunity.

No risk, high reward.

Considering how slow this is compared to zerging, I’d say it’s moderate risk, low reward. One arrow into a guy before he’s run over by 30 players gives the same reward.

But roaming can be challenging and require skill if try to take multiple opponents at a time.

It was increased to lower Thief DPS over-all. It breaks up our basic rotation (1 full autoattack, CnD, Backstab). Now it’s 1 full autoattack, 2/3rds of the next autoattack, then CnD, Backstab.

This did nothing to affect the PRACTICAL use of stealth and all to do with lowering sustained damage.

I love the way PvE EXP works. Everyone gets the EXP. It virtually eliminates kill stealing, aggressive spawn camping, and actively encourages grouping.

You take that to WvW Experience (Wxp), and it is a blatantly unbalancing force to risk versus rewards.

Take two opposing groups: a 5 man team (Team A) and a 10 man team (Team. The average player is worth 30 points.

Team A encounters Team B.

Best case scenario for Team A is wiping Team B, with a total gain of Wxp of 10 (dead Team B players ) * 30 (Wxp per player) * 5 (players in Team A) = gain of 1500 Wxp.

Best case scenario for Team B is wiping Team A, with a total gain of Wxp of 10 (dead Team A players ) * 30 (Wxp per player) * 10 (players in Team A) = gain of 1500 Wxp.

Now, which team has a better chance of surviving? Why would anyone who is going for the carrot that has been placed in front of us (which, honestly, we all are) in their right mind NOT travel with a huge zerg? You’d be considered witless.

If the Wxp was shared instead of multiplied, your best bet for maximizing Wxp would be a group that was large enough to be mobile, responsive, and agile, but not so large that people can laze around, leaching off of the success of the superior numbers.

Same Teams A & B with this scenario:

Team A Victorious:
10 Dead Team B * 30 per player / 5 Team A players = 60 per player, total of 300 Wxp

Team B Victorious:
5 Dead Team A * 30 per player / 10 Team B players = 15 per player, total of 150 Wxp

This encourages skill, appropriate risk vs reward, and smaller encounters – which are obviously needed, considering how laggy it is with 3 zergs of 50 players have proven to be.

Even if you’re being really liberal with your skill points per hour, you’re looking probably at 1 point an hour max (the first few levels go quickly – they scale up to level 5). For mastering supply, it’s 700 skill – that’s 700 hours.

If you take that phenomenal rate, and you wvw for 4 hours a day, that’s 6 months of playing. I leveled 3 characters to 80, and probably spent 2 weeks per character or less.

This is a time commitment WAY beyond simply getting to 80 – by 10 or 12 times longer.

It’s not even close to the same thing as level experience, and I agree that it should be account wide and not character specific. It will pigeonhole people into single characters.

I was dueling a ranger on my thief today, and we both got downed (be kind, I’m still reeling from losing my 3 quicknesses) – the pet was close to dead and he used lick wounds. I switched targets to the pet, and killed it…… and it kept healing him.

This is the same bug we have with under water pets, but it seems to have leaked over to land based lick wounds….

If it makes you feel better, my thief (which I made after the shortbow nerf) feels this too – I was running quickness from signet, trait, and utility, so it’s going to require a complete rework too. It’s probably about the same as QZ + pet change haste (since that is available more frequently).

I’m sorry Rangers.

I suppose it wouldn’t help to mention that the animation bug that was there for rangers and “fixed” is still there for thieves?

This is a really significant nerf. I currently run the trait for a chance for haste, a rage signet, and the haste utility. That hurts 3 times over.

Add in a 25% reduction in how frequently you can CnD + Backstab and you’re looking at a really significant DPS reduction.

I guess that’s what was “needed”. But it seems quite heavy handed to me. At least they didn’t try to ram in the other stealth change.

Yeah, I’ve run into the cheaters who, when you start doing damage to them retreat to 2x out of range in 1-2 seconds. I reported, tabbed out to get fraps running, and missed recording it. Not sure that does anything, but he was guilded. I dunno. It’s disheartening for sure.

Or when you down a ranger under water and the pet bugs out while healing, and doesn’t stop healing even when it’s dead, and it takes 3 people to out-dps the pet rez.

Do you people even know what an upgrade costs? The absolute cheapest upgrades are 10 silver. The higher ones are 1-2 GOLD each. You don’t make that up from the random blues and occasional green drops.

So sure, it may be roughly break even to positive for leaches, but for the responsible player, no, it’s a gold drain.

I remember camping those gate/door things at the xmas event killing the amount needed for that title only to find out a few days later when they released the maze place that killing them all there still counted.

I did that too and I was moderately peeved. For that reason I’m not going to spend hours trying to get that finished on the expectation that you are correct.

I’m glad this forum was created! I was working on the living story, and hit a bit of an impass. Acts of kindness was easy enough. Finding the hidden items to return? Okay, I cheated on the last couple. But killing invaders seems a REALLY slow thing, because most of the events seem to be bugged. The event is active, but 0 invaders are left.

Am I missing something or is it just borked?

A thief standing still for 3 seconds to stomp, invisible or not, is usually a dead thief. Hasted stomp is the real killer.

But you do bring up an interesting point – thieves have NO non-channeled ability stability. Daggerstorm, which you can’t do anything other than….. daggerstorm while it’s active. Only class that has that limitation.

So you can take your thief hate and cram it down your whinehole.

I know it’s a long shot, but I’ve seen instances where you call a loop, not knowing that each iteration has a nested loop in and of itself, and somewhere deep in that was a read/write to a disk that really didn’t need to be there.

Anyway – semantics and logarithm theory aside, could a few people just check next time they are in that scenario?

I believe that I’ve witnessed a correlation between skill lag in a large-scale Keep / Stonemist battle and the event associated with the defensive tick.

I haven’t had the opportunity to repeat these observations due to play time issues, so I was hoping that I could get a few more eyes watching for a correlation. Basically, when you’re in a skill-laggy situation defending around Stonemist, watch the timer and observe whether or not, if only for 10-15 seconds afterward, if the lag is markedly lessened.

It could have been complete coincidence, but my spidey sense is tingling. Also, anet should check server load average 15 second interval graph for dips that correlate with defense events.

You don’t mean arcing? Because arcing on long bow is one of the few places where Anet got it CORRECT. On my thief, I can’t autoattack or cluster bomb unless I can SEE where it is going to land, which is borderline full on kitten

But if you don’t mean arcing, then I haven’t experienced that. What are you seeing in the log as the source of the damage?

yup. it ends up being a PITA 9 times out of 10. It should be a selectable trait and not something you’re forced into if you want to use that entire tree at all.
