Nah, id rather debate because any guardian can stack defense and hold aggro. Doesnt mean hes the best player by a longshot.
Not true. Any guardian can attempt to do this job (and fail) only a good guardian can do it well. Your statement may be true in WoW though where gear and looking at a thread bar is all you need.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
Instead of trying to debate whether or not the last man standing is the best player, I think it’s more important to acknowledge the fact that the player who has been holding aggro the longest and staying alive while throwing vital support skills is your best player and is most likely carrying the team… usually the guardian because mobs mostly have beef with toughness and heavy armor.
Lots of misinformation in your post OP.
1) Bounties – Some bosses cannot be pre-scouted. It’s impossible due to their mechanics (such as Sotzz who quickly despawns unless attacked)
2) Rushes – You cannot complete a rush with 2 players since you need at least 15 players to get through to get credit. Also, some of the mobs cannot be cleared (i.e. the Burrowed Wurms in Crab Scuttle)
For rush, 1 player can get credit as many times as they want (given they can repeat it 6-7 times (if there is 2 players) within that 30 minute.
I can wear full berserker gear (which I always do for open world pve) fully specced for damage or I can wear P/V/T gear with supportive traits (which i do for fractals and harder dungeons generally)…and you know what, it doesnt make a bit of difference really. The harder FoTM and dungeon bosses still (more or less) one shot you if you make a mistake or roll in the wrong direction, the stupid annoying Dredge (as one example) still permastun you far beyond your ability to mitigate and you will still get picked up by your party if you are rolling with a decent group. And so it continues, over and over again.
Im bored. Bored silly, and I’ve given it long enough and invested enough time, grinding and occasionally money that I have everything I want in the game (wont go for legendary because after throwing many hundreds of items in the Mystic Thief I just gave up). Full Tier 3 on main toon, crafted Volcanus, crafted Vision of the mists, crafted the Anomaly, got four characters to 80 and fully geared etc etc.
The man problem isn’t the content, which is decent enough really, theres great graphics, great scenery, atmosphere etc, its the basic game mechanics. It literally doesnt matter what you equip or how you set your traits up, if you can time dodges well, get to know the mechanics of a fight, you know what your skills do and you group well, you can do anything this game has to offer. Thus making you absolutely no more desirable in any situation than any other person, unless you are talking about so called “elite” CoF runners who think shaving two minutes off completion is the absolute pinnacle fo the game.
We were talking in guild the other day about all getting alts to level 10 and equipping the most basic gear and going running fractals. Haven’t done it yet, but I have confidence that if we do we will get through it…albeit it will take longer. You basically serve no purpose in this game other than bringing very specific skills such as mesmer portal (for example). And I think thats why Im getting bored again. Plus, the idea that the end game is about cosmetics is a joke when you consider that most people look the same. Thers no true individuality anymore, Tier 3 gear is everywhere, you have seen every dungeon armor many times, every time you go to LA you see more than one legendary being waved about. Its all so pedestrian.
I’ve got gold, compared to some I guess, I have about 150g in the bank at the moment, but there isn’t one thing I want to buy that will a) make me look different or more importantly b) make me perform better. So I log on, do my daily fractal, do my daily and then what? Chat to the guildies, speculate a bit on the TP maybe, dye my armor? Level an alt? Done it 4 times plus two others at lvl 20 and lvl 14 and many more created and deleted…literally cant face all the same stuff anymore.
I would love this game if knowing my class made the difference, if I could turn the tide in a less gifted group through my abilty to heal or tank (for example). But the fact is for everything (with maybe the exception of Arah / CoE (maybe)or higher than level 10 fractals) it really doesnt make any difference. You can run in with 4 good players or 4 bad and you will finish the instance, maybe sooner…maybe later.
I just can’t quite figure out how it could be addressed in entirety, but theres just something fundamental missing from the experience. If everyone is equal, if everyone gets a prize…then theres no winners.
Or is it just art mirroring life?
I’m only going to address your cosmetic point at the moment since I can’t be stuff building an argument around the rest. No matter what game you’ in, what game you’re playing, there will never be an item that only “one” or a “very select” few will own. Stuff like legionaries were designed to be obtainable eventually for everyone who plays the game. Besides, I still see plenty of unique and creative ways to dye and mix match armors. Some people decide to stick with a full set of the tier match while others like to wear different sets of armor. Thus, there is a unique nature with this already. Also, changing the dyes around etc will also make you stand out differently than someone who may be wearing the same. It’s all about how creative you are. Fact is, if armor was as scarce as you wanted, chances are, you won’t be the ones being able to wear it and we’ll have a whole lot of other problems like people complaining how it is a “grind”. So what it comes down to is that, you find this game isn’t grindy enough for you. That too many people are obtaining all the tier 3 gears and that you think only the people who grind endlessly day and night should be able to obtain expensive gears and legendaries, thus, making them not “mainstream”, the common 21st century hipster dilemma.
I generally don’t like to tell people my wealth, especially in forums, just because it’s like putting yourself as a target to be hacked.
I’ve read so many on the forums talking about he/she being the last player standing and then continues writing with the implied notion that he/she is the better player. While in certain situations that holds true, there are times when I see the last person standing as the worst player in the group.
Situations like everyone goes melee range and there’s this one person that stretches the farthest of his range attacks. Yes, you can most definitely dps the boss from where you are standing just fine, regardless 1,200 range away or 130.
I don’t really think that’s the point…
If we were fighting Malrona (the TA Exp Up Path Spider boss), definitely range is the way to go for everyone. If we were fighting Fyonna (the TA Exp Up Path boss after the Spider), even if you were holding a ranged weapon such as a bow or a staff, please fight the boss at melee range so that she doesn’t end up running around like some mad woman on the loose, and worse if she runs out of the cave, causing all the spider eggs to hatch.
Or in FOTM where we got to the Ascalon fractal, and the farthest person standing is holding back all the NPCs, preventing them to go where they are needed…
When everyone goes melee, the benefits are -
1. Being able to res each other when one of the members gets downed because the boss targetted him instead of the rest
2. Tossing out buffs that nearby players can benefit, and this is possible when everyone is within range of each other and usually that is in melee range.
3. AOE heals and debuffs etc.
And then there’s also the case of players complaining about warriors wearing berserker gear being down more often than anybody else, which automatically makes them the natural worst player?
Sometimes that last person standing is all that makes the difference, and actually makes everyone notice whether he’s the strongest link or the broken one.
Really depends, I mean let’s say cof p1, i’m usually the melee warrior who is still standing alive with 90 % hp while the other 4 guys are downed in the red. However, i’d say even the leech who is ranging is being a better player than the dead guy who was meleeing. Since dead = no dps, range = some dps.
Of course, there is always the coward selfish guy who refuses to rev or help others when needed and just runs when the parties all down (that’s your true classic leech there). My number one cause of death is saving others, because that’s just my nature.

You know, these post come up so often I reckon ms gray should make a formal sticky post about how language filters are not a license to swear. This will reduce her workload and allow her to address ppl with “real” issues.
Or you can just control your behaviour to only amongst close friends.
I got banned 3 days for trash talking with the 2 trolls in LA who trash talked CO. I cannot believe it. My biggest question is how did I get banned and those 2 trolls can keep trolling? Sure I might have used some strong language but come on if you read that whole conversation, you would know who was abusing who.
I would admit that I was a bit hot headed against these 2 trolls. You have to understand what is going on in Kaineng server. These 2 trolls was trash talking Mayoken.9851, the guild leader of CO, yesterday in Lion’s Arch. Mayo got so kitten that he decided to move his guild out of Kaineng.
CO is an important part of Kaineng’s WvW efforts. Now many other Kaineng WvW guilds are being contacted by other servers to transfer over, so who knows what would happen. In other words these 2 trolls “single-handedly” destroyed Kaineng as a WvW server. Yes words can be this damaging to a server, even without foul language. We are ruined.
So yes I admit that I was a bit hot headed when I talk to these 2 trolls. And these two trolls had the nerve to trash talk my guild. Look, this is the guild that I had been with since GW1. I cannot stand that. These two guys ruined our server. Now they have the nerve to trash talk my guild and undermine my personal efforts to help the server. What kind of man can just take that abuse in the face and not say anything? If you guys browse though the chat history, throughout yesterday and today, you guys will see what I mean.
You also have to understand that I play WvW like 90% of the time I am online. So I really want Kaineng to do well as a WvW server. If Kaineng ever fails as a WvW server, I don’t know what I would do. I already transferred once from SBI, so I don’t want to move again.
Let me just say that you guys got to put things into context. Just because a person used foul language it doesn’t mean that he was the offender. He might very well be that kitten off victim that happened to use some strong language.
And allow me to suggest that, if you guys want to get rid of all foul languages, why not just have a language filter that auto converts all foul language into “kitten” in game? Why give the players the “option” to use foul language, only to ban them?
I personally don’t feel what I did today was any worst than what I did in GW1. Yes even back in GW1 there were times when I got to defend myself. And I don’t think I was ever banned in GW1. I guess you guys now got more server admins to go around banning people. But come on I didn’t even know you guys tightened the law since GW1.
I went to the support webpage, and apparently I am banned from the support site too. So I got no other way to complain about my ban except for here.
I had been playing GWs since GW1 beta. I would really appreciate it if you guys look into my case. Thanks!
Don’t feed the trolls? IF you knew they were trolls why did you play right into their hands.
Again language filter isn’t there as a license to swear. There is no need for a permanent language filter which converts things to ** or kitten (besides, are you saying you need a language filter to stop you from using foul language and cannot be controlled yourself?). Some people happen to be able to keep their foul language only within the confines of their own group/guild.
Also, isn’t it a bit overreaction to leave a server because of two people? Just block and move on is what most people do..
Final words is, there is always a reason why people hate you but at the same time you can’t please everyone. Ignore the trolls next time.

conditions are incredibly powerful against players. Confusion/bleed/ builds are by far the strongest. Less strong in pve but still solid builds.
It’s been horrible since after mid November. Trust me they nerfed drops into the ground since beta. The only things nerfed harder than the loot are rangers and engineers.
We aren’t supposed to be critical of the game though since there’s no sub and everything is wonderful and it’s the best mmo ever and has no trinity so we can all just be happy dps.
Nerfed harder than the loot is rangers and engineers? Oh then it really isn’t that bad at all :o. But I agree the t6 mats does need to be cheaper, specifically powerful blood and crystalline dust.
More than that, probably at least 30, most likely even higher.
—
Berserker gear pve is only strong if the person who wears it is skilled. Others who wear it just end up dying 2-3 seconds into a boss fight – constantly. How much stronger do you think PVT-gear makes you? About 2 times stronger? So you last 4-6 seconds instead?
A LOT stronger (try 10-20x). I can face tank most mobs for a long time wearing “knights” not pvt. with berserkers, no way.
—
Maybe missing your main point again but scroll up , check my calculations and see how many stats you need in order to get 10 times stronger (not to mention 20…), it’s monstrous. That would require a total armor value in the 20000-40000 range, right?
Only if you think in terms of numbers only….which it obviously is not what this game is only about…
There are so many others factors to consider besides from just numbers.. for one, the aggro system in gw2 is highly prejudice against players with high toughness (making you ideal for putting pressure off your berserker friends). A lot of the time, the 10-20 % less damage you take is all it means to be able to take a potentially 1-shot hit (and heal back up) or not.
For example, one of the bosses I most commonly face tank almost 100 % of the time is mossman, if I wasn’t able to hold aggro and tank every one of his big hits, my team mates would have a lot more trouble and dps would suffer because of it. There are also traited abilities which are beneficial to your chosen defensive stats which are game changing as well.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
In theory yes, in practice – no…
Not everyone is perfect in this game and not everyone has 24/7 spare time to “get better” in every dungeon there is + WvW +sPvP in this game. If one can not survive, zerker gear is worthless. I run a war with 3k armor and ~28-30k health and I’m often the last man standing and many times are left to solo the last dungeon boss, when all the “standard” zerker teammates go down.
I also like the basic idea of being able to sustain some punishment and being able to run through trash mobs like they’re nothing, I can not do that with zerker gear as every smallest mistake can get me downed. If I can solo most of the dungeons with my Berserker Warrior that says something about being practical (with 5 guys it’s a lot more easier). You are feel free to try with your PVT-gear.
As you said, with Berserker-gear you have less room to make mistakes so people want to kill stuff as fast possible. Then if you have few guys rolling with low damage bunkers/tanks it gets much harder for glass-cannons because fight lasts longer. Also if you are supposed to be a tank and you aren’t protecting your teammates then what’s supposed to be your role?
Yes for skipping PVT-gear is obviously better because you aren’t dealing any damage, however all skips are quite easy. For me it’s kinda the opposite, why do people buy berserker gear?
Being that squishy is not good in my opinion. But I prefer survivability over damage in almost every game.In PvE, people just want to get it done fast.
Besides, you missed my main point, I didn’t say berserker was bad, it is just bad in the wrong hands. TOO many times have I seen fail warriors/fail thieves fail zerker classes who die and down within SECONDS of the fight. Okay okay, sure, guys like me wearing knights gear, losing out on that 30 % crit damage is really putting a tow on your survivability, but really? you die in 3-4 seconds in a fight and your reasoning is that they should have killed faster. Not every fight out there is as short as slave driver lol. Again, I emphasize, nothing wrong with berserker gear, but in the right hands. If you’re the kind of guy who can’t get out of a boss fight without at least downing once, then maybe you should reconsider using it instead of saying, the guy wearing knights is pulling us down, it’s his fault I can’t survive more than 5 seconds wearing this gear.
As for fractals, I dunno, i’m not very hardcore in it, highest i’ve been to is about 48 and things there I can still melee/face tank a bit like a breeze. I suppose if i’m at like level 80, then things will one hit me, then and again, getting 1 hit by agony doesn’t really count.

Today our guild initiated the rush mission. Upon entering the site, we found that another guild was already in the process of doing the same course with 5 minutes left on the timer.
When the 5 minutes timer was up for the other guild, our own guild rush mission also immediately resulted in a success (with merits awarded) and disappeared from our mission tab. However, this means our guild had only 5 minutes to do the rush and most of our members did not manage to earn commendation.
This behavior, whether it is a bug or not, is highly undesirable as there are only a few possible courses and each rush is half an hour long, so the risk of clashing with another guild is substantial. Guilds could arrive on the scene with only a few minutes left on the timer and see their rush mission wasted.
P.S. Throughout the 5 minutes, our guild could not initiate our own rush at the site, and the timer on our mission remained at 5h. However, the mission disappeared as soon as the 5 minutes was up regardless.
When two guilds have the same rush, guild members can CHOOSE to do get credit for the rush or not, a command prompt will pop up asking if you want to take credit for doing this etc. I think if everyone selects no, you can start your own guild rush. Having said that, unless it’s a majoity rule thing, i feel getting every single member to click yes is unlikely.
Since i’m not experiencing the same issues, BSOD may be caused by a hardware issue, usually in this case, your graphic card. Have you tried playing other games to see if you get a BSOD? Ideally, games which also stress the card more than usual. Sometimes, if card runs too hot, it may also cause BSOD and repeat exposure to high temperatures will cause the card to shorten in life span.
Yeah, basically you just need to apply a serial code in the account under my accounts I think? The request for serial section should be obvious anyways :o good luck.
There are rumors that putting 1 human 1 asura and 2 charrs into the forge will throw you back a charmandsura
Here is a true tip if you wanna use the forge. Use exotics, the % chance of getting a precursor is roughly 1/50 exotic attempts.
Why do people buy anything but berserker gear?
Some cleric geared ele giving you trouble? Use berserker gear.
Some bunker guard out there just wont die? Use berserker.
Some thief killing you in seconds? Use berserker and get the jump on him first!
..and if you get killed from AOE, just come to the forums and cry til they nerf AOE.
GW2’s shine is really starting to rub off.
Lol, that is not true at all, especially NOT in pvp/wvw. I welcome any fight against a berserker geared class.
Berserker gear pve is only strong if the person who wears it is skilled. Others who wear it just end up dying 2-3 seconds into a boss fight – constantly.
As a normal player of the game, you shouldn’t have to worry that you might get banned for doing something that you didn’t think was wrong.
Yet many players DO fear it, read the several posts in this thread alone citing previous exploits that at the time were NOT so obviously an exploit (eg. Godskull and Snowflakes).
Pretty much every thread where ban-reversals are discussed (of which there’s a steady stream) players post they DO fear a ban due to doing something that doesn’t require a game hack, which is what you’re saying was needed in this case.
For example, before the recent ‘boss chest’ change, in the main Hirathi event chain when the Seraph storm the Centaur’s main camp, the chest spawned after the Seraph broke the gates, ie. two events before the main boss event.
I found I could log in a toon AFTER that chest spawned and still open it, even though my toon wasn’t even in the game when it spawned and in some cases I wasn’t logged into the game at all.
I opened it on all my toons that could get there, was that an ‘exploit’? If so then I risked a ban doing something that the game allowed me to do. I assumed it was WAI since otherwise Anet would have fixed it: the change you did was clearly more than ‘fixing’ a bug (there are after all several world chests that are perma-spawned in those camps).
FEAR doesn’t need to be based on reality!
Our goal is to only ban when we’re sure that the account maliciously participated in the exploit, or was used for muling or distributing the proceeds.
Yet there’s a never ending stream of threads on here which show so often you AREN’T sure and have to reverse the ban; or else your ‘sureness’ was misplaced.
You know, it’s easy to get the impression that Anet take the view, “if we’re not sure we’ll ban and see if they appeal” .. there are way too many ‘human errors’ here to be credible, frankly, or else the staff doing these reviews aren’t up to the job.
An occasional, isolated case maybe, but an never-ending series of multiple cases at a time, I find accepting ‘human error’ as an excuse hard to believe.
Snowflakes was obvious, it required much less mats then others of its tier.
- If someone is banned (account terminated) or even suspended, they can appeal and the team will review the situation yet again.
We review appeals thoroughly. Anyone who believes he or she was unfairly banned only has to write to us to get a clear answer.
~ MOIm not buying this my gfs account was banned and or broken some how and the only response we get is:
http://i.imgur.com/bsb83Po.png
and this is unacceptable IMO wont tell us why or what is going on and when we TRY they just auto close tickets.
Ticket: 130417-000161
Your situations sounds like more than what meets the eye. It seems their research has dug up some nasty stuff about the account and therefore they are confident that you or your “gf” has breached their policies.
Nevertheless, posting a ticket number here on the forums to gaile gray may be able to shed more light on the matter.
To my knowledge, no one is immediately banned from an automatic system. There are probably automatic systems to FLAG certain accounts which require extra attention, but real live people review each accounts before they are banned.
I heard first suspensions are just warnings so you should be unbanned relatively quick? Unless this is your 2nd time?
Why is Arenanet wasting resources on this? -> https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/presenting-the-rytlocks-critter-rampage-game/
The time could be used to FIX bugs or ADD new stuff to the game. Even the Super Adventure Box is a WASTE of resources and time when you all could use the time to MAKE CONTENT RELEVANT to the storyline on Tyria. Make a new dragon appear or some new dynamic events that actually did PERMANENT change to the world of Tyria or something!
Yes, the Molten Alliance storyline is cool and all, but if you all could just stop wasting time on making a Mario Brothers wannabe in 3D, you all could have make the Molten Alliance storyline even better.
Every department is responsible for different things. No resource was wasted or pulled away to make SAB. If SAB didn’t exist, nothing new or additional fixes would have moved faster.
Sunrise. Everyone and their mother has twilight, also red and black isnt exactly unique, and limits what colors will look good on your armor.
My mum doesn’t have twilight but I do.
TL: DR This game is worthless because it has things in it that I don’t like. If you disagree with me you are stupid. No response necessary, I’m just looking for attention.
Basically this. I probably would have had more respect for the OP if he admit that it was his personal dislike of the game rather then trying to blame anet for not making a game to HIS liking and that he is either too young or closed off to enjoy the 8 bit games of his time.
I rather see new SKILLS (weapon skills to select 5 out of 10) then to see new weapons beign added to a class. Though to keep to this topic, I reckon engineer. Mesmers are pretty okay and eles don’t need extra weapons thanks to their attunements which is what they whole class is based off.
hmm,
it seems that on the process of grieving, i was on step 2 when i wrote my first post, 3th when i wrote my rebuttal and after watching a lot of kitten (not kitten, but baby cat) videos on youtube, i am on step 5. Having poured about 1700 hours into this game, i just must accept that for this weekend gw2 wont be part of my life. I might actually go out for a first time in months and hit a bar or two. Yes. Maybe something good will come of this, and hopefully i wont wake up in the ER or jail.
Still i wish the person offended would have just whispered to stop being a kitten before reporting and ruining everything for me.
And tokittenLing U : i had not even considered that it would be like that for some languages. I play in EU region (Gandara ftw), and certainly i have seen some funny named people, who’s name would be considered very rude in my native language. Funny.
And Eulas…pffft. Who reads those anyway?
I read the EULA, and their naming policy, and some other things they let us read. I’m sure most serious players would read the EULA carefully. I’ve seen a lot of people get smacked hard because they didn’t realise they were breaking gw2 policies (guild deletes etc… long debate about it, basically people who quote links that they haven’t read and yeah…) Maybe since you’ve got another 60 hrs to go, you should read up on their policies to make sure you don’t get another infraction
FYI, they did not just forget to leave the doors and windows open for me to peek in, they opened them up, then started dressing and throwing their stuff up to their lawn.
The language filter is turned on by default.
My point being, they turned them off, then got offended by my language which would be blocked automatically otherwise. And then anonymously reported me and kittened over my weekend.
Just fyi, your language was most likely directed at a person to get banned for foul language. It’s usually offensive language, and targeted at individuals. Try not to call people you kitten kitten kitten and learn to be constructive.
K.
b: within the Arenanet businessmodel they only want you happy as long as it is proffitable. Where is the profit in giving you a refund?? what do they gain?
This is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard anyone say. There is NO business in the entire world, that remains profitable with a strategy encompassed by “we only help our customers when it’s profitable for us”. Secondly, what they gain is a customer who will continue to spend money on their game, instead of one who won’t spend another dime. All for 5 minutes of some GM’s time. Btw, the game is Buy to play, not free to play. The difference is astronomical.
But I digress. Yes, I made a mistake and didn’t play close enough attention. I asked for help and haven’t yet received it. Is not helping me worth losing a paying customer over? We’ll see soon, I’d imagine. I’m not going to lose sleep over 10$, but the outcome will determine how many more 10$’s of mine go to Anet.
But being an kitten on the internet is fun, for whatever reason. So I won’t be responding to this anymore, unless an Anet person posts. For those of you trying to be helpful, thanks. To those of you who came here to say “you made a mistake, you shouldn’t get any help lololol” please remember this the next time you try to return something to the store.
We have all been through issues and gone through support and have received similar messages of not being able to help. I personally have lost tokens and achievements because of mistakes Anet has made (mini server roll backs, server wide d/c issue) and support has said the same thing, we can’t do anything about it. At least with YOUR problem, you had control over it and you were careless. Others like us just learn to live and move on. Sure, anet should have a GM system which they should use to compensate users who have lost items due to their mistakes but they don’t. But your issue here is clearly because of your carelessness and if you went to support and they said no, you shouldn’t blame the bad customer support because they didn’t fix your mess.
Although this is not exactly your case, the reply is official about purchasing errors: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Fused-Weapon-Merchant-issue/first#post1727802
Again, sorry for your loss.I read the post, and followed up with the other post linked in that one. This was the outcome from the person who was requesting help.
Thanks ArenaNet! Very happy your team could help me with this situation!
Hopefully I can also get assistance. Thanks for linking that.
The main difference is that unlike this person, you got a warning telling you it would become soulbound and you clicked equip in that message.
The thread we are talking bout was bout a vendor purchase where the person didn’t get a warning that the item wasn’t suitable for his professions and through that mistake he ended up with something he couldnt use.
You however got a warning (wich you ignored) and ended up with an item you can use.
I see a lot of debate here bout what people expect from support. and though I never played it, I suspect most are former blizzard-customers.
There are two really important differences.
a: within the blizzard businessmodel they want to keep you as an addcited and happy customer. They know you are addicted and are doing what they can to keep you addicted cause thats how they make money.
b: within the Arenanet businessmodel they only want you happy as long as it is proffitable. Where is the profit in giving you a refund?? what do they gain?Bottom line is that despite two level’s of warnings you made a mistake. They dont have any reason to help you or to symphatise with you.
You keep on making arguments and refuse to face your own responsability.
Im not here to kitten you off, but im helping you by warning you that you have wrong and false expectations what support of a free to play game actually is willing to do for you.
I wouldn’t say anet only helps those when it is profitable to them… After all, they did refund all the exploiters their account + gems when they were banned.. they just don’t refund user made errors since the system has many built up preventions to already stop these things. People who do usually make these errors are people who don’t take the second or two to read the warning text.
So I recently started playing GW2 again. On the first night that I was back in the game, I saw the Molten Alliance Pick on the store. Since it was a limited edition item, it really had me interested (I’m a sucker for that kind of thing). I was concerned about whether or not it was bound to account or bound to a single character, since it says both on the description. After asking in general chat, three separate players confirmed that it was indeed usable by all characters on an account. Here’s where my issues began:
At the time I was playing on a low level alt, and without thinking went ahead and purchased the pick. Later, I discovered that it was indeed soul bound to that character and I was unable to move it to my main, so I submitted a ticket. At first, I asked if it were possible to receive a refund since I bought it unknowing that it was for only a single character, and I was told that this wasn’t possible. Fair enough, since GW2 is a Buy-to-Play game I figured they made money on the store, and offering refunds would really cut into profits, this was perfectly acceptable. However, I politely said that I understood, and asked if I could at least get the pick transferred to my main character, as it’s completely useless sitting on a low level alt that never sees playing time. I was told repeatedly, that it was “impossible” to transfer it. So I asked if they could refund the gems under the sole condition that I spend them on the exact same item, but on my 80 Mesmer. Once again, repeatedly told that they wouldn’t do this.
I don’t get it. I bought the item not understanding that it was a single character item, which is fine – my mistake, I get that refunds aren’t always the best business option. But not allowing me to transfer it onto my main, instead of sitting on a low level character to see no use… that’s absurd. 10$ might not be a lot of money, but I wouldn’t throw a 10$ bill in the garbage either, and that’s essentially what has happened. I even proposed a few separate solutions, all of which involved Anet keeping my 10$, but the pick being moved to my main so I could actually use it, and was refused over and over. So my question is why? What makes it so difficult to take 5 minutes and accomodate customers, yeah it was my mistake but it doesn’t make sense that I have to waste the pick when a solution is so simple.
This is my last ditch effort, if I don’t get any help here, I cannot see myself spending a single cent more in the store. That may not be important to some of you, but it’s a really big deal to me.
Well, i’m just going to say, ignoring the 3 trolls (or maybe a misunderstanding on your part) the mine pick clearly says soulbound on use….
Btw, your title is misleading, it wasn’t bad customer support, it just didn’t do what you wanted them to do. Again, refunds or transfers are rarely offered by Anet unless it was a clear mistake on their part. This was obviously your fault for not taking a second to read the soulbound on use printed clearly on the mine pick description so the support is by no means obligated to help you.

Hi all, my first post in here.
Just got thrown out of the game and found out i’d been given a lovely 71 hour suspension for inappropriate language. Just makes me feel all warm and tingly to know that someone from my team did this to me (have a very close match up this week in www).
My question is, if the game has a “#¤%!”%#"!% swearing filter on it, why punish me if some kitten donkey kitten has turned it off and then gets ‘offended’ over my words?
They made a choice to turn it off, i did not do it for them. So i propose my suspension to be removed, and the ‘offended’ to be banned instead on the basis of false report.that is all.
It’s funny how many times people who get banned for foul language uses this argument and how many times it gets shot down with, “language filter doesn’t mean you have a license to swear”.
Hmm? It’s still pretty easy for me. People are expecting too much. Take it easy, enjoy the ride.
Let I remind everyone that achievements are a history thing. It’s your achievements throughout the game and not a gauge of your “skill level”. Therefore, the achievement points are working as intended, players who have invested more time in the game to do their “achievements” should rightfully have more achievement points. These people have logged on everyday since release and did their dailies whereas you might have come in 2-3 months later and also did your achievements daily. However, who are you to say that their 2-3 months should not count since you’re late. Ultimately, no one can keep it up forever, so in the race of time, you may too be up there on the board.
From what I know, the last ban waves of exploits was underlined in my below examples. Can everyone defending the exploit please answer these examples I have given earlier:
Oh this crafting item requires a lot less than usual mats compared to others of it’s same quality tier. I wonder if this is an exploit?
Oh, this karma merchant is selling something extremely cheap compared to others of its tier, I wonder if this is an exploit?
Did you really think this was not an exploit? Seriously. SERIOUSLY.
MMORPGs reward efficiency. Gw2spidey might well lead you to the first example without it ever even crossing your mind you’re doing something wrong.
That is not answering my question and no, I have never done something in game repetitively and not realise if it is right or wrong… because wala! I have common sense.
Seems people ignore the perfectly good elites that some people have listed out and only claim that they’re useless. Tell me people who complain about elites? What did you expect elites to be? A skill that would give you 1 hit ko ability? 10x your HP? something super imbalance which would make every class revolve around their elite abilities?
I’ll tell you instead what I did not expect. I did not expect: pets that are marginally useful to useless in the open world and which are useless in dungeons or transform self skills that under-perform my regular build, sometimes in very significant ways. These are so far from game-changing that it’s laughable.
Racial elites are not meant to be super powering to begin with. They’re more of a “for fun” elite skill. The truly useful ones are your class based elites.
I’ll try list some examples of great elites for each class:
Guardian: tome of wraith and courage are great elites for support but renew focus is so much better! with a relatively short cd and 3 second invulnerability, this baby has saved me more than a few hundred times!
Elementalist. I regularly use flame GS or summon greater ele. The flame GS provides good dps for your party members while the ele is situational. Sometimes I use the earth to help tank the boss a bit, ice ele for some extra heals, fire ele for plain dps, and air if I need a few stuns. For it’s CD and damage, it does it’s job. Tornado I only ever use for tagging, it has its purpose at times but I rarely find the need for it.
Ranger: Rampage as one usually, it’s a very good elite skill, 22 second stability along with might stacks and pet synergy, relatively short CD imo. I can use it at least once per fight. Entangle, excellent skill in certain situations, pvp wise or against certain bosses you need to root. The greater spirit thing I rarely use, tried it a couple of times.
Necromancer: Lich form, increase HP pool plus extra damage, I use it often, especially against boss. Plague is also a good one for maintaining conditions in big wvw fights, also increases hp pool. The summon flesh golem is pretty good when used and traited correctly, it has saved me a couple of times with the well placed kb.
Thief: Basilisk, excellent short cd elite, very useful especially in 1v1 situations. Thieves guild, very strong elite skill, does tonnes of damage.
Mesmer: Time warp, enough said, people know how good this skill is. Moa form, very good elite against for pvp/wvw 1v1s. Mass invis, again another must have skill for certain situations, i.e. dungeon skips etc.
Warrior: Battle standard.. super useful elite, gives fury and might + rallies allies when used. I’ve saved so many people with this banner. SIgnet of rage, another good signet for solo or dungeon situations.
Engineer: Sorry, I have one but am still learning to play it. But as far as i’ve seen, the turret elite is super good especially in pvp.
Racial elites: these skills are not meant to have a significant advantage other class elites since then there would be a racial preference when creating characters. I.M.O though, the golem skill from asura and human bathazar hounds is fairly good and fun
I think all elite skills are great and it’s really comes down to how you effectively use them

Really, I say this again, why we have so many people who do not understand the line between an exploit or not is because of the poor upbringing of other mmo games who has put the fault of exploits to the game side rather than the user. Anet has given us partial responsibility as adults to do the right thing (i.e. not to steal even though it’s in front of you) or risk the consequences. Anyone who says they don’t know if they’re exploiting something is either in extreme denial or just plain silly.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
Question is irrelevant because those are not exploits. It’s like saying, would you stop breathing air because the government told you to. It’s a very part of the game. Exploits aren’t.
Whew, it’s a good thing you’re so well versed on what is, and isn’t an exploit in GW2. Would you be willing to post your email so those of us who aren’t sure can contact you and ask? Would you be willing to defend me if I accidentally get banned for an exploit you were wrong about?
Well, if you insist, and you’re still playing this game and not banned, i would gladly reply you if you had questions on whether your current play is exploiting something in the game. It’s really easy to figure out after all.
Seems people ignore the perfectly good elites that some people have listed out and only claim that they’re useless. Tell me people who complain about elites? What did you expect elites to be? When is an exploit an exploit and I not talking about bots.
For example(s):
A skill point or veteran is to strong for me to solo. I happen to discover that if I position myself behind this ledge or whatever I can attack him but he can not attack me. It that an exploit or using tactics. Maybe it isn’t so obvious as a gap in the rocks instead its using 3 well placed trees. If this is exploitation then I’m guilty
If there is a Mesmer on top of the water falls in lions arch that is teleporting other players so they can get to the jumping puzzle chest without do the jumping puzzle is that an exploit? Who’s exploiting, the Mesmer or the player taking advantage of the Mesmer skill? Does the Mesmer asking for tips impact if it is an exploit or not? Hum, at what level does the Mesmer get this skill?
If I figure out I can level a toon faster by only doing dailies and only running the starting area is that an exploit? ie 30 minutes at say level 60 verses two or more hours in the level 55-65 area. Guilty again
If a player got to level 80 only by crafting because a lot of other players feed him all the mats is that an exploit? Now that he achieved master status and can craft items that sell for lots of gold and then splits the profits with the mat farmers is that an exploit?
If a player buys gems, sells the gems for gold and buys all his armor/buffs to better compete in WvW or pvp is that an exploit?
If I share my gold with another family member is that an exploit? They did not earn it or have to buy gems to get that extra character slot they bought with the gold I gave them. Guilty again
Since I don’t care about having the best armor or weapons, skins, mini pets or buying exp/karma buffs etc. am I exploiting the game by not buy gems?
Here is my question to you personally. Would you stop doing all those if ANet told you that they were exploits and you would lose your account if you continued doing them?

Most of those are not exploits, the one that borderlines an exploit is the one where you’re killing the vet. However, Anet often overlooks those since it’s not something that has a damaging impact on the game. It’s really not hard to tell if something is an exploit or not.
The game doesn’t require you to buy gems at all to play.
Mesmer portal skill is designed to function that way.
You can level your character however you choose, you can craft level it up or do only dailies in low level areas, that option is totally up to you.
Judging by what you’ve written, I feel you have a very poor grasp of the concert of exploiting, either taking it too into the extremes or becoming in extreme denial about it. I suggest you look back on something the past ban histories in this game and have a feel what exploits really is. In short, anet takes anything that has a significant influence to the economy very seriously.
I would blame the poor upbringing of other mmo games who has put the fault of exploits to the game side rather than the user. Anet has given us partial responsibility as adults to do the right thing or risk the consequences. Anyone who says they don’t know if they’re exploiting something is either in extreme denial or just plain silly.
Let me give you some examples:
Oh, this event seems to be bugged and is infinitely spawning mobs, i wonder if this is intended or an exploit?
Oh this crafting item requires a lot less than usual mats compared to others of it’s same quality tier. I wonder if this is an exploit?
Oh, this karma merchant is selling something extremely cheap compared to others of its tier, I wonder if this is an exploit?
See what i’m getting at? To be honest, Anet is already very lenient with exploits, they only ban exploiters who are seriously damaging the economy and the game and not everyone who has ever committed an exploit. Most exploiters who get banned are the ones who get greedy. When repeating it once or twice isn’t enough but they have to do it thousands of times.

Just to throw it out there, make sure your pick up tab isn’t full, mail box isn’t full, double triple check your buy orders etc. There has been reports of people buying and selling items and the tp has some delay in processing the trade so sometimes it’s there but you can’t see it. To my knowledge, I have yet to see someone who hasn’t been able to recover an item from the TP in the end, usually 90 % of the time if its a gem store item, it’s a full max box issue, if it’s a tp item, it’s either a delay in the TP or full pick up tab, or just someone picked it up and didn’t realise. Anyways, gl with it.
My account was preordered and never touched because my computer couldn’t run it. I finally get a new computer, find out my account’s been hacked, spend three days with customer service to retrieve it, try to log in to find that the account was suspended due to suspicious activity, spent another two days with customer service to get it unsuspended, and now this. I seriously haven’t even gotten to play yet. Yes, my account was hacked, so it’s possible that the gold spammer who hacked the account used an exploit. HOWEVER, I’ve consulted support about the hack, and I should NOT be held responsible for YOUR COMPANY’s security flaws.
I would greatly appreciate if you would review my ticket. I do not want to spend three more days waiting to use the product I payed for ages ago.

If Anet had security flaws, dont you think there would be alot more that got hacked and not just you. Sounds like you went to a bad web site, thats your security flaws.
My security flaws? I don’t think so.

Try again.
Try reading it..
""Hackers have lists of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and websites, and collected through spyware, and are systematically testing ‘Guild Wars 2’ looking for matching accounts," ArenaNet staff wrote on this wiki page tracking the issue. "
Stolen from other games using phishing and spyware. Wow.. Don’t use the same passwords and logins for everything and this don’t happen. No ones brute forcing into Arenanet server and spy-snagging your uber account.
Well, that was what Anet said. We will never know for sure if this is all the truth or if Anet had some information leaked and just wont tell us (they forced me a password change and my password was used only on GW). They sware the fault is everyone else’s, but I have my doubts.
I believe Anet is legally required to tell us, their customers, if there was a security breach in their system. I believe blizzard tried to pull one of these earlier in their years and got found out and fined heavily? But, feel free to put those tin foil hats and believe in these unjustified claims. The plain fact is, it is much much more likely for a user to have their security compromised then Anet having their system compromised.
Onto the question of people getting banned with exploits, do you think it’s to do with the bugged events in orr? I’m glad I never took part in those.
The elite skills in this game need a complete overhaul. In Guild Wars everyone would create their build around an elite skill (SoS, Discord etc). In this game there are very few elites that are even worth using. Mesmer is the only class that has an actual elite skill (timewarp) that really helps out your team. When i’m playing other classes I barley ever need to use the elite and i would rather have another utility skill tbh.
The cultural elites and summon mistfire aren’t even worth mentioning they are so useless.
Guardian renew focus, warrior battle standard and the signet, thief basilisk or thief guild, ranger rampage as one… these are just a few elites I can name that are EXTREMELYYYYY good. Racial elites are not meant to be hugely advantageous since that would give “racial” advantage. It’s more, for fun theme elites. Having said that, hounds of Balthazar are quite good
I’ve never had problems selling anything on the TP that was sitting in my Invisible Bags.
Was it the Invisible Pouch/Satchel? The leather one.
You can’t sell things in invisible bags. Try it again.
As of now it is 22ish gold for this item, which is an exorbitant amount of gold for most. I understand there is a cool factor to this item with its effects, but it is still exorbitant. For something this expensive, it would stand to reason that the item be Account bound instead of Soul bound. The cool factor did play in a role in my decision to buy the item, however the extinguishing of a money sink is a main selling point.
It’s a convenience item like permanent bank contracts etc. I don’t see a point in making them account bound other than cheapening their value.
