High Level FOTMs Less Rewarding Than Dungeons

They could possibly add a gold reward for complete fractals, and make a new set of mf weapons that requires new items dropped from fractals mobs\chest, and can be sold on the tp to people who don’t run fractals. (You would have to reach a certain level before they started dropping)

I logged in last night and decided to “try” these zerg champ trains everyone has been mentioning for the first time. I’m by no means a new player as I have several 80s and I stick mostly to dungeon speed runs. I’ve just never done a champ train before.

Came to Queensdale, asked where train was. A person said “Boar.” I asked “WP?” No answer. I asked again and still no answer. About a minute later someone said “Now Oak.” I knew where Oak was so I ported over and found a corpse. I thought, “Ok, maybe I just ran too slow.” This is about the time I realized I was not going to get much help so I looked up the train route online for a bit of reference. I asked where the train was after researching. Someone said “Heading for Bandit.” I knew exactly where Bandit was, quickly hit the wp and started running. However immediately after I loaded into the wp, there was another person saying “now heading to Oak.” I was wondering how they were killing so fast. It considered it literally not possible to be “heading” to a champ, only to hear it dead 20 seconds later. I started to realize they were telling me “heading to champ” even though they were already there and fighting currently. I asked them if they could give me a heads up a little earlier and I got several rude responses including but not limited to “we all know the path and are very efficient at it kthxbye” and “learn the path and you won’t have to ask us noob.” I thought “Ok, I’m out of here.”

I decided to then give Frostgorge a try. I asked where the champ train was and I got the response “Um, everyone can see it on the map.” I looked at the map and through my own reasoning, assumed they were talking about one of the several Commander badges running around. I asked if they meant the commander badges. They mocked me about how I was “A quick one.” I replied, there are literally 4 different Commanders all over the map. At least this time I got an apology from the same guy. They told me which one they were and I met up with the zerg. I thought “great, now I’m in the mix!” A champ showed up, we burned it down, and boom…I got zero credit. I was like “whaaaa? Maybe it was a fluke.” After struggling to keep up with Commanders WPing around all over without announcement to see if Champs have spawned (a few had not so they immediately WP out), I proceed to get no credit for the next two champs as well. I ask what the deal was. They tell me to group up or it might not count the contribution. Others say that they are grouped up but sometimes they still don’t get contribution.

At this point I’ve already wasted an entire hour, had to fend off unnecessarily rude people, and am just mentally tired/strained from trying to understand the entire ordeal. I made the conclusion that Champ trains are annoying and not worth my time anymore.

tl;dr: If you want guidance in this game, don’t expect it from the player base. Sad but true.

You should try guesting to a smaller server if you tried this on one of the large ones, I hear the trains are quite volatile on the bigger servers

side note: a lot of times when champs are dead by the time you even get there, it’s because people outside the zerg were fighting them prior to the zerg arriving, and didn’t say anything about it. . At least on YB that’s how it usually goes.

1. The only way you’ll be making anywhere near 8g an hour from champ farm is if you sell everything you get a hold of. (mats, lodestones, etc) Base gold is only around 2-3g an hour. Many open world players asked for a way to make gold in open world for a long time, and champ farming does that.

2. Dungeons are more rewarding than champ farming. They both give about the same base gold per an hour, + dungeons give you tokens which can be used to buy equips with exclusive skins to that dungeon, and sometimes very limited stat sets. None of these can be obtained through champ farming. Exotic weapons and soon armor with stats not found in a lot of places in game can be salvaged for a chance of an inscription that can be sold.

I’m not saying dungeons/fractals couldn’t use some more love, but champ farming does not need to be nerfed. forstgorge generally only gives 2-3 gold an hour, and anymore than that depends on how lucky you were, and what you decide to sell. Which is also keeping lodestone prices down atm, which is what a lot of people were asking for, and anet decided to knock out 2 birds with one stone and threw them in with champ boxes, and t6 would probably be higher than it is now without the added supply from champ farming.

How do fractals (especially 40+ levels) compare to champ farming?

They don’t, that’s why I think they could use more love. In point to I was specifically talking about dungeons, not fractals.

“To me the champ train is just shy of an exploit with how easy it makes it to level and get loot.”

The phrase you are looking for is probably ‘raids tackling group content’. So yes that makes it easy, safe, fast, rewarding. I’m sure it isn’t an intentional part of the game design and the champ trains didn’t exist until extra loot was put onto champions a few months ago.

Oddly enough, there were people running Queensdale champion trains on FC before the champion loot bags were introduced. Maybe they were alt leveling, maybe there were fewer of them, but they were there.

^ This, the queens champ train was present some what before champ bags were added, though, people didn’t worry about coordination as much since the goal was mainly just exp/karma , and the champ monthly.

Sounds good, but as of know they would probably make less money if the implemented, maybe not, it depends on the spending habits of GW2 players, and who anet gets most of their money from.

Most sub free games probably rely on a small percentage of the player base who have a lot of disposable income to spend a health amount of money on the game each month to make up for hose to don’t spend a dime. (I’m thankful to those who do this) If they implemented an optional monthly fee, most of the big spenders will probably switch to that.

GW2 Needs More Farm Alternatives

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lambent.6375

Lambent.6375

  1. In GW2, many reward nerfs — such as zone loot DR and the elimination of several farm spots — have been explained as being to prevent bot farming. This makes sense to me. Gold sellers hurt the game, and they hurt legitimate players. I believe this is why we see rewards being concentrated in content that is less amenable to bot farming, like Champions, meta events and zone zergs like the pavilion and invasions.

There’s a couple things I want to address here.

1.) I don’t see how this hurts Bots in the least bit, in fact the zergy easymode method of farming is by far the most beneficial to bots. All you have to do with auto attack, hell 80% of the people champ farming ARE essentially “botting” in a sense just because you can afk while doing it. Rewarding stuff that requires skill and teamwork would be loot that botters can’t touch.

It may hurt bots because the spawn time of most champs are slightly varying, and the time it takes to kill a champ may differ each time, because of this it would be difficult for bots to follow along, because they wont now when the zerg is porting, and where they are heading.

example: FSG is usually fish – kodan – norn – wurm – troll – drake

How will a bot know to move from fish to kodan?
What if the fish is killed early and everyone skips to norn?
What happens if the bot gets stuck in combat? Can it correct itself and catch up with the zerg?
What if drake is killed early, will it automatically know and port to fish?
etc

Well, they did manage to make bots capable of ports directly to nodes, I think programming one for FSG champ farming would be difficult though. afaik, I have yet to see anything resembling a bot on a champ train

not that I care either one bit if they nerf or do not nerf the trains. I just wished people would stop saying, “report them” if reporting them actually worked, the problem would not exist. Because in time they would all be gone. The report funtion is a joke.

There will always be people with attitude problems/jerks in game. People who are reported may be punished, but that doesn’t mean all jerks will vanish. There are jerks throughout all parts of the game, there were even jerks in queensdale way before the trains started. Not all of the are reported when they begin to behave in a disrespectful manner, and there are many players out there capable of this, they’re not going to vanish all of a sudden just because some people have tossed out a couple reports.

As far as people attacking others for killing champs, that’s not something I see often, on yak’s bend, unless the person is doing it on purpose and making it known. (trolling)

Most of the time people will say something like, “please don’t kill before train,” or “please join the zerg,” etc, etc.

Of course, the person doesn’t have to do it, and they’ll usually respond with something like, “I do what I want.” Then someone from the zergs starts trying to lecture than about the benefits of running with the train, and the solo person/group responds in turn, then they go at it, and those are usually the arguments I see take place in queensdale.

Zerg trains in Queensdale

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lambent.6375

People can be jerks no matter what, even if you are trying to “play nice”. I logged into Queensdale with my low level toon to do daily events. I saw the troll stone was up, so I shouted to the map “troll stone is up, where is the champ train at?”

If it was close, I was just going to sit and wait for them to get there. If they weren’t I was going to join them on the rotation. Instead I get the reply of “Don’t [explicit] touch it. You don’t need to know where the train is.”

There was more nastiness said, but all with the same basic attitude. Friendly? No. Respectable? No.

No wonder Devana’s Rest can’t kill Tequatal and sucks at WvW. The server, in general, has a serious attitude problem.

Disclaimer I have met some very nice helpful folks on DR. They are not all bad apples.

I’m normally supportive of trains, but if someone said something like that I would have been highly tempted to pull it, but if I was not in the train I would have pulled it for sure, and simply responded, “If no one reports where the train is, it can’t be helped.”

In general, I don’t see much zerg train rage though, unless someone is intentionally trolling, for the most part it’s just 1-3 snippy people, and they rest just move on to the next champ.

farm/zerg/champ farm = shorter lifespan

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lambent.6375

I don’t see how people can point at champ farming as a source of inflation. the pure coin income of fsg is about even with dungeons, aside from the fact that one can run champs as long as they want. Sure, champ farming takes less skill, but why can’t open world players make any gold? Should we create another situation where all the gold was in the hands of the dungeon farmers? At least it’s a bit spread out now. As far as risk/reward, dungeon runners are still getting tokens, which many don’t take into account.

As far as people running champs for hours and hours, how many people are capable of doing that?

1. You would need a lot of free time.

2. You would have to be willing to do it, while ignoring the LS, and all other game activities.

Bonus: Sometimes zerg trolls will come to crush the building, and you will be forced to hang it up (or guest or something)

^ Just off of these two requirements, I would guess there isn’t a lot of people doing this.

Some sort of DR can be placed on it, but then again, that would be punishing another minority of players. Those that can only play about 3 days a week, and one of those days they just might want to spend 5 hours champ farming, but the DR puts a clamp on their plans immediately. Well, I guess whatever happens it’s impossible for everyone to be happy.

I get next to little money in Frostgorge Champion farm. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

I salvage most of the things that come out of the exotic packs for essence of luck. I’ve also only gotten 1 exotic so far and it’s the Rock weed Spire trident. Decided to salvage it (with my Gemstore salvage kit) and didn’t get a single ecto :p

Some people exaggerate how much one can make from champ farm. 1 hour of champ farming will probably get you around 40-50 boxes if you have a fast load speed and are able to hit each champ ever run, and it also depends on champ spawn time. (as much as people make threads on it, they’ve already nerfed the fsg champ farm a couple times)

40-50 boxes will probably get you around 2-3+ gold in pure coin, which is similar to what one would get running dungeon paths. The difference is you get mats from champ boxes, while dungeons give tokens. If one chooses to sell their mats, they can make more than 2-3 gold an hour.
(inb4 someone calls me out because I’ve only did one session/video of this to see how much I got in 1 hour :P)
Also: Possible benefits of champ farming.

- Gives people with limited playtime a quick way to make a little gold if they choose to do it. There is no waiting for events, or waiting to form a party with people, you just jump right in, and leave as soon as you’ve had enough.

- Lower loadstone prices. Cores come from champ boxes at a pretty decent rate, which has helped increase the supply on the tp, and lower core/lodestone prices.

- Some players enjoy running around with a mass of people, and champ farming is one of the activities that gives them a chance to do that.

You can make similar gold or more gold from dungeons depending on whether you’re speaking of Queensdale or fsg, and most people probably don’t do it all day, nor everyday. After cof p1 farmers have been making gold for so long, the gold distribution for open world and dungeon players is starting to get kind of even.

Also, people in the queens train don’t just do it for gold, there are also people there who do it for karma, and exp, and some do it just because they can.

Open world bosses that required a large amount of people, and a high level of teamwork (pre – WoW era) have been called raids for a long time, when did this become not raiding?

Having been a raid leader for guilds in one such game I can mention some differences. There are no tools here for organization, no raid panel, no linked groups. When you get tooooo many people together to do something, and with no real leadership, it just becomes a mob, not a raid. Usually in raids… you don’t have people standing around afk, ya know?!? I didn’t hear Anet describe this to be a raid, and good thing, they would get laughed so hard.

The lack of organizational tools was actually one of my criticisms of this new content that I posted at the top of this page page, lol. I just think the requirements of the content itself is enough to qualify it as a raid, and anet’s lack of organizational tools is a different issue. (it makes the open world raiding experience not so stellar)

I would like it if they improved overflows, and added more in game tools to help organize large groups of players, so people don’t have to solely rely on some form of ts, and people in overflows aren’t running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.

Like Battlegroups in daoc for example, that’s an old game though, so their are probably better systems out there, and Anet can probably come up with something better.

Welcome to raiding – challenging, team-based combat. WoW has had it since 2004 (as has most games that followed), and it’s said we have to “ask” for it in GW2 in 2013.

They missed the mark by not launching the game with this kind of content. We’d likely be talking a very different story today about GW2 if they had. But that ship as sailed.

This is zerging not raiding.

I WANT raiding.

Give us an instanced version please, thx.

Open world bosses that required a large amount of people, and a high level of teamwork (pre – WoW era) have been called raids for a long time, when did this become not raiding?

I would like it if they improved overflows, and added more in game tools to help organize large groups of players, so people don’t have to solely rely on some form of ts, and people in overflows aren’t running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.

Like Battlegroups in daoc for example, that’s an old game though, so their are probably better systems out there, and Anet can probably come up with something better.

The good about he video: I really like the idea of numbered overflows and people choosing which overflow the will join.
I also like the idea of faster check for AFK players.
While I don’t personally like the idea of a strict timer, I think that practicality of it far outweights the tension building or RP aspect of it, and I agree that increasing the time between spawns would be beneficial (with maaybe a bit more rewards).

The bad about the video: I think that WP is contradicting himself with regards to zerker builds. If someone is willing to change their traits, utilities and weapons, doesn’t that completely alleviate the issue of “on crit” traits, builds etc. ? Besides, exotic gear is not nearly that hard to come by as he is making it out to be, especially 1yr after the game release. In fact Soldiers gear is one of the most easy to come by since they can be purchased for karma from temples, and karma is even more easy to come by then glory..
As far as the condi builds go, the issue is the same as with zerker, but there is also the engine limitation problem.
I also think that, like in the raids, majority of the population will eventually learn to deal with the Tequatl. They will definitely take more time to learn how to fight it then organized guild raids but that’s ok with me. I prefer the feeling of working together with your entire server, and with future updates it might even go a long way in building server pride and maybe even server fidelity. Besides, as it has been reiterated on multiple occasions on the forums, dungeons were hard content when they came out, but today even the lowliest pugs have a chance to finish them successfully.

Nothing ugly about the video, I found it quite interesting.

@ Soldier’s gear

It’s unfortunate they nerfed karma, if someone is saving up for a legendary, or recently spent most of their karma, and they don’t actively run dungeons, getting some other stat sets may be far easier for them, and like wooden potatoes said, it would all be for one fight, which most people aren’t going to do. Also, that the person will have possibly eleven new pieces taking up inventory space just for the teq fight (atm), not counting soldier weapons.

My feelings.
In old mmorpg with major open world bosses similar to teq, there was no overflow feature, nor any guesting feature. SOowhen a mass group of people decided they wanted to go kill one of these bosses (like the alb dragon in daoc for example) Pretty much everyone was familiar with each other, you might not know them, but you’ve probably seen their name around, and it was pretty much already established who was going to be leading these players, and you didn’t have to worry about any character map limits.

In Gw2, unless you are on a low pop server, there is a high chance you will be pushed in an overflow with a bunch of people you don’t know, with several people trying to take the lead, and beat content that has so far proved to require high coordination over voice chat to beat.

They will probably end up in overflows like a majority of other people.

The farmers will have trouble getting into the map as well because the people who really want to do jormag will be camping it, just like people are camping the main server sparkly fen maps.

Edit(unless the champs in fsg get nerfed into oblivion by the time this is put in)

Side note: I posted that video to show that running champions is not as profitable over dungeons as it was being made out to be, the fgs champ run has already been nerfed a couple times, and the people in queens are probably making less than what was in that video.

I don’t see that much wrong with it, it’s a quick access activity that you can jump in to as soon as you log in, and it’s a way to make a little gold for those who don’t like dungeons, or want a break from them.

You don’t need a certain type of gear, and you don’t have to look for ripple to play with, you can just jump in and go.

1 hour of straight champ farming in frostgorge netted me 48 champ boxes in total, which gave me ~2 gold 88s in pure coin. I rarely sell mats, and I salvage all greens in blues.

My god guys why do you even have that much crap in your bank in the first place? The skins I understand, but materials? Seriously? For what possible reason would you ever hoard so many of anything? Just craft up the gear you want for your characters and then SELL the left over junk.

Honestly, do you really need enough clutter in your bank to make a legendary weapon ten times over?

Depending on what crafts you are leveling, it may require you to have far more materials than what is possible to stack. Especially if you’re in the mist of crafting ascended weapons, and it will get worse when ascended armor comes out.

The flame color varies. I’ve seen a orange flame, a green flame, and a blue flame depending on the ascended weapon. I don’t know if there are any others.

1.1k gold? He must be selling everything he gets his hand on.

I hope anet takes a look at how much gold people are actually making from x activity before taking peoples word for it.

Great Fight - DO NOT NERF IT

Yeah, good luck whittling down his health with no zerkers on him.

Crit damage is useless here. You cannot crit Tequatl. Just raw power builds are needed that have invested a bit toughness/regeneration instead of crit. dmg. That’s enough.

For example: warriors with 30 points in defense on knights gear can stand in the front for the whole time and dealing constant damage without ever going down. For such builds they just need to jump over the waves and move a bit out of the red circles. But they can deal constant damage. Similar for other classes.

Just needs some time until people get used to it what to do. We had about 80 people on my overflow and about 60 were constantly down This obviously cannot work. Health is too high for a team of five to bring him down.

But again I like this fight. It is a good thing that it does not work right away. In about a few days more and more people will understand how it works, tell it to other and it will be completed. Of course only in the last 1 minute or so. It is designed to be a close call.

This currently is as close as we get to raid content in GW2. It is a good start.

it’s not useless if you’re defending the cannons.
