So Scarlet wasn’t a Dragon minion, and she did it to to kitten the dragon off for some reason or other?

Reminds me of this, “Caithe, someday you’ll see, Tyria needs me. -Scarlet”

What if this wasn’t about the dragon at all for Scarlet, and more about the leyline? Reminds me of a plot in a book I once read where the antagonist wanted to redirect a leyline to revitalize the land, but it had the consequence of releasing/awakening a powerful entity.

Are gemstore prices aceptable?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Lambent.6375

Lambent.6375

Yes, for the most part, I have no problem with gemstore cost. (aside from me think it 5+ black lion tickets is too much for weapon skins after the initial sale, 3 would be nice)

My main beef is with the current skin system, not saying one should have unlimited use of them once purchased, but they can be a bit more flexible.

Specifically:

1. Whenever you buy a new gem store armor set, you’re losing inventory space. Maybe there can be a special storage system reserved only for items that are gem store skins, or have a gem store skin applied to them?

2. Limitation of one of a kind LS skins. One you apply one they;re stuck n that specific armor forever, sure, you can use tricks to transfer them to a character that uses the same armor type, but one with a different armor type is a no go.

Actually, when I first started hearing about Gw2 combat system, I though it was going to be a role switching system.

example: You still needed people for “tanking”, healing, etc, but rather than being stuck with that role, you could switch on the fly depending on the situation.

If the person healing suddenly got aggro, the healer would switch to a dps/“tank” role, while the person who was previously dpsing or tanking . would switch to a healing role.

(of course there are more roles than dps, tanking, and healing, but I’m just keeping it simple)

Not saying it should be like that, it’s just what I first thought when I heard about Gw2.

Pointless.
To avoid any ‘buy to win’ scenarios, store bought skills couldn’t be game breaking – and if there’s no ‘advantage’ to players spending real money on such skills…then it would defeat the purpose to sell them in the first place.

He is talking about skill skins, not actual skills.

It would be something like replacing arrows with shurikens or something.

For Gw2 to be P2W to me, they would have to do something like gate t6 or ascended mats behind the gemstore, require gems to unlock certain skills, or introduce a new combat mechanic that requires the gemstore to fully utilize.

^And even then, gw2 still probably wont be as P2W as some other games out there.

It’s only two events, but this is the most interesting event I’ve done in GW2, I hope someday they expand on Bria’s story.

“Bria is a powerful Ascalonian ghost and necromancer who lives in Hellion Forest within Iron Marches. She is responsible for the forest’s supernatural occurrences and seeks to steal the souls of charr cubs who like to play around her home. Bria is the only known victim of The Foefire that’s able to retain her freewill, access all the power that she possessed in life, and take on the appearance of a living human. "

They do have 5-10 player content though, dungeons, guild missions and fractals. You don’t get to know your Guild members during guild missions?

I agree, the social aspects of Gw2, seem to be not as healthy as a classic mmo I’ve played, but I think that has very little to do with zerg content. My friends list stayed full in dark age of camelot, but there are less than five people on my contacts list in Gw2, and yet, there were no instances in daoc prior to the catacombs expansion.

To me it’s more due to the fact that I’m no longer stuck in dungeons all night leveling with people until I fall alseep at the computer, and there are no 3 hour+ raids (open world) in Gw2, along with various other reasons.

(I personally I don’t think that’s because of the game, it’s just that I’ve changed over the years)

Yeah, you have got a point there. Dungeons and Guild Missions are great and I agree with ANet about the game, well, most of the time (about grinding, dungeons etc…) But I really hate zergs. Do you really enjoy zerging arround? I don’t know what people like in it. In some places (like WvWvW) it’s ok in my opinion but zergs should stay out from the major part of the game.

I like the chaos.

Spells and attacks flying everywhere, large groups of people getting taken out by large attacks, or swarms of mobs, moving about the land in a huge force, etc.

Six Minutes to Knightfall - The Game of Zergs

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Lambent.6375

Lambent.6375

I don’t think the zergs themselves are the issue, I think the main problem is Gw2 doesn’t have any in game user interface to “properly” manage zergs at this point in time.

There are no tools in game what so ever to manage zergs aside from map chat, and “gather at this commander tag”, which is why a lot of people have to join super guilds like the TTS guilds, and require mandatory participation in TS or whatever.

I don’t agree with you. Zergs are ruining the whole game in my opinion. One of the biggest advantage of an MMORPG that you can get to know interesting people (like guild mates) or you can spend quality time with people you already know (like friends). Zerg are totally the opposite of this.

I used to play World of Warcraft and I joined a guild full of strangers, but after a time I get to know them and I really enjoyed their company during a 25 man raid. I can still recall all of their names. Here it’s the opposite: I can’t tell you one name, just one I enjoyed playing with during the zerg events and I didn’t really get acquainted with anyone and I don’t think I will. I think that 25 player is also a bit much but if ANet could make contents for 5-10 people that would be the best in my opinion. It’s a lot easier to coordinate this many people and during the progress you get to know each other and enjoy yourselves and if you achieve something you all will have a common experience.

While in the Zergs: It’s really hard to coordinate, you don’t really get to know each other because the amount of the people and even if you achieve something you won’t really know with who you did that therefore you won’t have a common experience with anyone. Let’s say you kill the Assault Knights with 150 people and next day with do it again but the team members aren’t completely the same. You wouldn’t be able to tell who was there yesterday so it means it isn’t really important to you.

But this is just my opinion. Maybe Zerg are good and just something wrong with me but one thing is sure. If this keeps going, I must play another game.

Lambent.6375

Hyperbole is always fun!

I’ve done it twice in random overflows now (6 minutes). It requires a small amount of coordination, and people to be comfortable with melee. On top of that proper buffs are a huge dps increase for everyone: Scarlet potion, power food, Vigil buff. It also helps if people start coordinating more than 5 minutes out from the event, seriously. Mortars and embers can certainly help, but are definitely not required.

The only major melee threat the boss has is a constant 3 swing, 360 degree AA combo, each hit can do roughly 5k damage on a zerker. Intelligently moving in and out based on the swings can allow a zerker to maintain a high damage presence without falling over by the end of the attack chain. Knight’s and Soldier’s can take the AA and just duck out periodically to wait for heal to come off cooldown when needed. Guardians should be sharing aegis whenever possible to people around them.

I’m assuming based on the 50-50-50 split, maps can only hold 150 people, so if your current knight is capped, that means there’s another one somewhere that isn’t. If you’re not moving to the other knights, shame on you.

Complaining does this game’s community no good, we should be trying to better ourselves collectively. These events are the perfect tool for accomplishing that. Condition builds being shafted in this fight is rough, and a bad design choice, but that aside everything else still stands.

I don’t really see any hyperbole, there are plenty of unlucky people who have been in multiple failures, just last hour my tally went to 8 straight.. In a previous thread I said 6, but I forgot I didn’t get boxes on the last round(how I was keeping track), so it was 7 straight instead.

We can follow all of the tips you had in your post, but it doesn’t change the fact that we can always get stuck in a server with many people who don’t read the forums, and wont bother to do any of this, nor follow advice in map chat.

I have personally seen and completed Scarlet at least one time after each patch (with exception of the first, due to the fields not spawning), and twice today.

So clearly it is still fully possible to complete it.

I don’t know, last 6 times I’ve done it, both on Mains server and overflow, it has failed.

On the last attempt on main sever, we didn’t manage to down any of the Knights, and I don’t know how that happened. We had 33 at green, 40 at red, and 50 at blue. When that happened I just logged off, but not before seeing some people bailing main server to look for overflows.

Anet managed to suck all the fun out of a previously fun event by designing it around TTS. Catering to a single guild is not a good idea. Most open world events especially overflows are massive unorganized PuGs with no voice communication.

This kind of DPS race and coordination requirement belongs in instanced dungeons. Not open world events.

I’ve succeeded plenty of times on overflows. People just need to learn to dodge. So often on servers that fail it’s because over 75% of the players consistently get pulled every time.

Problem is most people don’t visit these forums, and they wont learn how to do anything, they’ll just stop doing it, and we’ll end up in a position where the main servers have enough to be capped, but the OFs end up being underpopulated.

The last two overflows I’ve done have failed, on the first one that failed I started targeting the people that were left, and saw very few of them had any sort of food or potion buffs. Though, on the second overflow most people had buffs, and we were able to down green easily, but ended up failing because blue reset.

There are always people in chat telling people to make sure to use potions, and when to dodge, but some just flat out don’t do it, and they’re not going to change.

They’ve been around for a looong time.

Besides, they also make things easier on people who buy gems to convert to gold in order to buy black lion chest skins, instead of gambling with the chest

The primary thing key farmers are going for now are black lion tickets, in turn they help bring down the price of black lion skins on the tp, making it easier for people to purchase them with gold. <——- Of course, none of that is fact, that’s just my own opinion of the benefits key farmers bring.

But thanks for this thread, probably reminded anet of this, and they are going to nerf it soon. :o

Regarding the dodge on the knights:

I appreciate OP’s tip on when to dodge (during the animation). The problem is that the red on the ground (which telegraphs the hit much more obviously when in the midst of so many players and their particle effects) appears and disappears before that. So I dodge, dodge, the red disappears as the knight jumps and I get pulled.

I’ve adjusted since I realized the timing on the ground telegraph was wrong (or my preconceived notion of when to dodge was). My issue is that it seems like there’s no consistency for ground telegraphs and when I should dodge throughout the game as a whole. Lupi is wait two seconds and dodge (red still on ground at that point) but I have to dodge with these knights after the red is gone. The Marionette attacks were split second telegraphs — it telegraphed almost as the hit was happening, where if you had to wait for a bit more vigor or were just finishing channeling and then dodged, you were SOL. Here, it’s like I could just stand around whistling dixie through most of the telegraph and not be pulled.

I don’t mind timing my dodges, it’s just impossible to intuitively know when. So it’s less a matter of overall skill and more a matter of knowing the game mechanics for one specific fight. I’d prefer a focus on the former.

If you’re talking about the large orange-red aoe circle, I just dodge as soon as it disappears, and it works every time. For the one that appears at melee range, I just find it best to get out of the area as soon as it appears.

It’s the first situation you’re talking about. And yes, as I mentioned, I know when to dodge from both experience and OP’s tip. I’m just voicing a concern about the overall inconsistency of the dodge timing in relation to the aoe telegraph throughout the game.

Ah, yeah, I agree with that, should have read your entire post, lol. /embarrassed.

For some reason I can see the champ trains becoming much more popular again tomorrow.

Yeah because god forbid some challenge in the game, people rather autoattack bosses for hours instead of having a small challenge.

What happened with gamers these days?

Was not the challenge I was referring too actually, although many might find this to be to challenging to them with the blue auto-heal (bug?). I was referring to the 2/3 reduction in loot being offered now as the champ farming just became more lucrative.

And there are so many dungeons that are more lucrative than champ farming. Yet people don’t do that. I mean who cares for the loot in this event anyways? There will be a few lucky people who get the rare skins and that’s it. Does this change anything about the fact that we had a pretty cool fight and killed scarlet?

Some people simply don’t like the hassle of doing dungeons.

One of the big things the knights dropped were cores, now that you only get one chance of getting a core instead of three, most people who were gunning for a colored back may feel they will be better off doing other activities for gold, so they can just buy the cores from the TP, instead of trying to get them from the events.

Lambent.6375

“Depending on spawn times” meaning you would need to get them to all pop very close together without having to wait plus quaggan and kill them all very quickly. I’ve done fgs champ circuts… there is always a wait on at least one of them and the quaggan isn’t there very often.

On top of those boxes you do indeed get a chance at the core reward from the knights as well… which sell for a couple of gold each… so even in the best case of fgs it’s not close to the rewards you get from the knights.

I’m sure people are interested in the t5/t6/cores/lodestones.

The amount of rewards you got from this are closer to what you got with the pre-nerf ember farm…

The kitten per hour number is not counting quaggan as a part of the train, and 45 is usually the min, as in if you have bad spawn times, and miss a couple champs. That’s what you may end up with. If you don’t have bad spawns, and are able to hit all champs the number is closer to 50 per hour. And yes, there is always a wait in the fsg train, it’s usually waiting for fish, norn, or kodan to spawn, though you usually only have to wait on one. With that wait taken into account, it is still kitten boxes an hour on average.

Getting 6 boxes (5+1 of another that stacked seperatly… not 5 despite whatever the notes say we’re supposed to get) seems fine if everyone actually needed to split up and kill them at the same time seems fine with me. If that was their intent… it failed. Not sure if it’s because of scaling or not.

No it’s not on par with champ farming to get 18 boxes in 15mins… or the same rewards from doing world bosses in the same amount of time… every single hour… -.-

I still see a lot of “I just want ez lootz” and “I’m not getting boxes, why you make this thread?!” sort of posts. I’ll respond again if I see anything else that actually adds to the conversation.

You’re right, it’s not on par. FSG champ farm yields about kitten boxes an hour which is about 12 boxes every 16 min minimal depending on spawn times. and better yet, you can jump in at anytime you want, no need to wait for a timer, and end up missing the event. It gives more boxes within a 15 time frame, but it’s only up once an hour.

Of course, someone could say what if they jump between knights and FSG, but what if they do? It’s only about 3-5 extra boxes per hour (taking into account spawn times, waypointing, and meeting up with the fsg zerg)

On top of this, there are methods of champ farming out there that yields even more boxes than fsg. (I don’t think anyone does this though)

This is a temporary event, and I think 18 boxes in a certain time window every hour is fairly minimal compared to the farms already out there.

I don’t even think most people even care about the boxes, they’re concerned about the power cores.

There’s a guild challenge in which you have to kill 3 bosses within the same time window that works perfectly to split up the ‘zerg from one to the other’ tactic. It makes coordination very important and creates a much more interesting fight.

I wouldn’t expect an overflow full of random people to perform on the same level as a guild would, full of people who know each other, and have done several encounters with together, and who are probably sharing some kind of voice chat.

Not saying it can’t be done, but I don’t think it would make the event very entertaining. There will always be those who wont listen when people start shouting in map chat to stop attacking. Then there will be situations where one color may not have enough people, and in a bid to correct it, people may end up overcorrecting, then confusion sets in. (etc etc, problems that usually occur when random people are thrown together)

I like it, this is the most fun I’ve ever had in a Gw2 boss event. I don’t really have any issues with the buff, I just glance at my buff bar to see if it’s fading or not.

I really like the new huge orange marker tells, now I don’t have to squint looking through a bunch of flash to see what the boss is doing.

Hello, to you the reader,

I come from the Sanctum of Ral server. Earlier today, I was reading the chat as someone asked how many people guest on the server. There was no response, but just as I was about to say that many people probably do. Someone shouted in all caps, “LOCAL”, I guess implying that he needed to shut up and talk in local chat, or “/say”. After reading that I decided not make casual conversation with the channel and let it go quiet.

Shouldn’t really worry about what people say in map chat., they don’t own it, and you weren’t breaking any in game rules.

Around the first month I started playing this game, I was doing shatter, back when getting a rare from a chest was an uncommon event, so when people did get one, they tended to link it in map chat.

When I finally got one, I did the same, and someone started throwing a kitten fit over it it. So I apologized, and left it at that, the person kept on kittening over it though. Since I was new to the game at that time, I thought I had done something rude, but now I know that person was just making a big deal out of nothing. Knowing what I know now, I would not have apologized, and would have ignored them, or started to act obnoxious toward them.

In short, as long as you’re not being a jerk, spamming, or breaking some other in game rule in map chat, you shouldn’t be obligated to “shut up” for anyone, don’t worry about people trying to boss you around in map chat. (unless you’re in WvW, or doing teq or something, and they need map chat clear to give instructions)

Though, on topic, I know PoE charges a min of $5 for their version of cash shop dollars, and they also offer a large price range when it comes to skins, $2.50 all the way up to $30+. Which is nice, as it has a little something for everyone’s price range.

The Gem Store already has items priced at different levels. From 50 Gems up to 1k Gems. But in order to buy Gems with real money, the current minimum is $10. Again, this is a viable business strategy, where you’re forced to make a decision on whether or not you really want to buy a certain item. If you do make a purchase of Gems, you pay the set price, even if it’s more than you wanted. It’s a legitimate way of making revenue for NCSoft. With the way some players are, the occasional $10 here and there add up.

Everything in the cash shop is optional, so it’s no real loss to you if you decide against buying Gems. In fact, you already have the option of converting in game Gold for Gems, effectively making the cash shop free. I know of players who haven’t spent a single penny on this game, but always has Gems to buy goodies. And there’s players like me who have spent a lot of money on Gems, because we’re able to afford it.

I was mainly speaking of skins when I was talking about the price rangers of PoE, I just thought it was nice how they had a good number of low cost skins for people to buy. I didn’t say the system Gw2 had was bad(though, I think the skin system can improve overall),I was just bringing up something another games cash shop does that I like.

Some creditcard merchants charge a flat rate fee + % on the transaction. When you offer things for small amounts (like $2.50), there’s a bigger hit to your bottom line than with larger amounts.

For instance, the merchant may charge Anet 50 cents + 2.5% of the transaction (not including tax). Without considering the percentage they take off, 50 cents off of $2.50 is a much large chunk than 50 cents off of $10.

You may see this at stores at the mall. Some businesses will have a “minimum charge” in order to use your creditcard.

But will that matter if the min gem cost is still $10? If I understand the Op correctly, the gems themselves will still be a min of $10 for 800, but he would be able to buy things that are the equiv of $2.50 with those gems. (200 gems)

^nvm, scratch that, just read OP post again.

You can work on getting the limited time materials (blade shards, blueprints, and the core needed to make it colored) and craft the ascended back piece when you’re in a position to do so.

you do realize that you can get all of those materials for free? scraping all of the bad loot that the bags give you are more than enough to get a ton of silk scraps.

~ the only bad thing about crafting those things is that if you don’t have any of them and since they’re ascended materials you’ll have to wait 23+ hours to craft 1 piece of it. you’ll need 15 days in order to get 15 pieces, which is why i absolutely hate crafting ascended things, it’s beyond stupid. if we have the materials, then let us just craft it, or at least let the cap be 5 items.

I salvage every white, blue, green, and yellow I get my hands on, and it still takes me 4 days -1 week+ to amass the 300 silks needed to make 100 bolts.

[Suggestion] Account bound

@Lambent
I am not sure if I get you right. The idea is to not have soul-bound at all. Instead transmuting, equipping, applying skin or rune on any item will make it account-bound therefore accessible for all your characters who can use it.

I originally put this in that post, but I had accidentally deleted it. >_>

The reason I mainly focused on ascended is because I don’t see anet ever making all exotics account bound, even with a rune, skin, etc added. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be happy if they did, but they already feel that exotics ended up being too easy to get, so I don’t see them making them account bound.

As for skins making items account bound, I would welcome that as well, but it is still something I don’t see them doing because of gem store reasons, or other. I do hope they do something about this though, because having to plan on buying new inventory space whenever you get a new skin kind of sucks.

And those costs are much higher right now. Just try to buy iron…

Iron really isn’t an issue, in fact, you can make some money off of it, on top of easily getting the iron you need to craft the back piece.

If you have a couple 80s (can also be done with toons lower than 80), and hit up a lot of perma rich iron nodes, you can get up to 300+ within an hour.

I was thinking about what female medium armor pieces don’t go below the belt line, and I think there are only two out off all the armor sets out there. (I think there are zero for males)

The two for females being the coat you get with the gem store Krytan set, and the dropped exotic armor you can buy off the TP.

Not counting female T3, it still goes below the belt line, it just happens to be a very revealing piece of armor.

Would be nice if we could get more coat pieces that do not go below the belt, similar to the female Krytan piece, there are a lot of nice medium pants out there that we can’t really show off because most pieces cover them up.

What armor set to buy with g on TP?

If you have lot’s of karma you can buy orr temple set. Good idea if you want PVT (power, toughness, vitality aka soldier) gear.

I wouldn’t waste karma on this, as you can buy soldier armor on the TP now, or buy the insignia and craft it yourself.

Well, I guess it depends, but gold is usually easier to obtain than karma is for me.

[Suggestion] Account bound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lambent.6375

Mentioned this briefly before, but I don’t think account bound ascended armor/weapons will stop most people from crafting additional ascended pieces.

People are still gonna want to try different builds, on top of people running different runes/sigil sets, and some will eventually want to transmute/re skin some of their ascended pieces, which will make the item soulbound.

On top of that, constantly removing your gear and transferring will get annoying pretty quickly, and people may craft additional pieces once they get the chance.

Some positives about craftable ascended gear being account bound is people will no longer have to worry about picking one character to main, because they know if they ever want to do something else, they will be able to re use some of their more valuable items on other characters. It will also be somewhat helpful to people who truly only care about WvW.

It can be said that this may prevent some people from buying transmutation stones/ gem store skins, but it can also be said that people not wanting to lose their ascended skins can prevent them from buying gem store skins.
