Your 1080p monitor should be able to output at least 1440p with Nvidia DSR. 1440p starts to get small though.

That being said, I’m not in disagreement with the need for larger interface. I’m in total disagreement with the way the request have been presented.

Surveys of the massive amount of steam users is not speculation. It a market demographic. Anet is in that market.

Anet is not in the habit to catering to the <1%

End of story.

When we regulars get new information regarding this topic, we will inform randoms who come through the techsupport section of it.

Until then, this is the best info we have. From the only sources willing to comment on it(Not Devs).

Edit: The last time this topic was brought up and aggressively bumped/threatened anet salaries can be seen here and the user(thedog.7543) I’ve quoted in this post was one who aggressively bumped and threatened to “stop paying” anet…as you can see, he’s banned.

Bellelaugh does have an incessant need to poke at apparently every single 4k forum post.
She or he also pretends to have Anet’s protocols for programming delegation in demand.
Question to Behellagh :
Which Anet protocol claims they or any other MMO revises itself based upon some quasi /steam / hardware review ?
Long live 4k dreams and 64bit clients!

Behellagh responds to posts..Almost every post made in the techsupport section. Not just those dealing with 4k.

Belhellagh also responds with a manner that is appropriate in regards to all the dev interaction we’ve seen about 4k UI, which is none as far as I can remember. Though im not searching the forums for this worn out topic at the moment.

Yes I’ve seen many problems like this. Usually it’s related to your PCI-E Interface Link Speed or your Nvidia Drivers(win10+gw2+auto-installed nvidia drivers rarely go well)

PCI-E Link speed is the easiest to check, though. Download GPU-Z and start it up, then start up Gw2 and take a screen shot like This.

It worked because, for some reason, GW2 will trigger any minor software and/or GPU contact issues and not scale up the PCI-E Link Speed.

Modern operating systems+motherboards automatically scale down, for instance PCI-E 3.0 x16 to PCI-E 1.1 x2, for power saving features. I’m not exactly sure why, I’ve never personally encountered the problem. But I’ve watched it become a prevalent problem in the tech support section.

MrFayth.3546

Today im update my windows for windows 10, and what i see?

Problem, probably , is what you dont see.

Your brand new Win10 installation is no doubt running a BUNCH of crap compared to what Win7 had going by default.

There’s a whole host of unnecessary services and applications that want to run constantly on win7, even more on win8 and win10. If you’re into some extensive reading on the subject, google for “Blackviper” and go through the tweaks. You might not get back to exactly where you were but you absolutely should gain some performance with these tweaks on a fresh Win10 installation.

caution – If you do not read carefully and follow instructions very closely, you can make your OS unstable or inoperable.

Poor FPS Help

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: MrFayth.3546

MrFayth.3546

Autodetect is a bad idea in most circumstances. It’s rarely accurate for getting “good” fps,in pretty much any games that have an auto detect, and it’s especially bad in Gw2 because this game will still bring top of the line CPUs+GPUs to <30fps in heavy situations.

Without knowing what auto detect thought was best for your system, there’s a few options that are much more troublesome than others.

  • Character limits/quality- These generate the most amount of Draw Calls. More characters=more meshes=more strain on the main Thread used by Gw2. I generally keep these on med/high and high/med(or low) for WVW.
  • Supersampling- Pretty self explanatory. If not, a quick google search will tell you why this is such a heavy hitter.
  • Shadows- Ultra shadows seem to cause a decent spike in Frame Time Latency for lots of people.
  • Reflections- Reflections cause a disproportionate amount of performance loss vs. visual fidelity improvement because of how Anet does water in gw2. Under every map(that ive seen) is a huge body of water. To make a lake or other large body of water, they simple dip the terrain level into the water level. The problem is that the water constantly reflects everything(if set too),even when you cant see any water at all.

There’s more than a few devs who regularly check the techsupport section, and lots of times will reply here. Far more devs in other areas. But that’s mainly because pure tech issues can be rather easily resolved by other players who are fairly savvy in the field and we have lots of those here.

Where as pure game issues(bugs, glitches, confusion) can’t be solved half as effectively by players as by someone with inside information about the game(devs).

It’s true that they do post quite often on the Gw2 Subreddit. Mostly because the voting system makes their comments much more easily visible to a large amount of people(+130k people).

The Gw2 DevTracker subreddit is great to filter out everything but the developer comments made on reddit.

Think you can post a screen shot like this to make sure your card is running its full PCI-E speed? Very commonly we see it running at lower than advertised speeds, even if you havent touched your GPU.

Even if it is running full PCIe 2.0/3.0 @16x, you’re both right about the GPU being the bottleneck. Pretty much everything about the card is a bit too weak for modern AAA games(like Fo4).

The good news: Your CPU is still very much a contender. Especially with a little overclocking! But we wont get into that..yet,if you dont want.

For now,if you’re thinking about upgrading GPU’s we’ll need a bit of info to help you make a smart choice.

  • Budget- obviously
  • Power Supply Information- If you dont remember what PSU you have in there, you can take the side off your case and there should be a sticker or label on the PSU (the little box your AC Power Cord plugs into). We’re looking for Wattage(e.g. 550watt,600,ect.) and/or and Brand name+ model number.

FPS issue... Need advice

MrFayth.3546

I have a feeling its your 640m GPU. They aren’t gaming cards at all. They’re there to ensure smooth HD video playback, not rendering.

That machine wasnt really meant for gaming . I haven’t seen an All-in-One id consider decent for gaming for the price. Your CPU, which Gw2 relies on more than GPU, is still nice but the bottleneck is further down the line: The Graphics Processing Unit.

Here’s a comparison between a ~$100 Nvidia 750 Ti,which id barely consider adequate for Gw2, and your 640m

If you scroll down to the middle section, labeled “differences”, that’s where you’ll find the meat and potatoes of the information.

  • Texture Fill rate: 82.64 GigaTexel/s vs 16 GTexel/s
  • Pixel Fill rate: 16.32 GigaPixel/s vs 4 GPixel/s
  • floating-point performance: 1,728 GigaFLOPS vs 384 GFLOPS

And that’s a low-end gaming GPU. The differences are even more stark when you compare something more mid-level like an Nvidia GTX 960 or AMD r9 380. Both of which can be had for <$200…but this does you no good because it’s an all-in-one PC and the parts are, for the most part, soldered into the Motherboard.

crossfire/sli scale with 64bit client?

A strong single GPU is almost always better than SLI/Crossfire but I wouldnt suggest a +$600 GPU for Gw2,especially seeing as OPs CPU is going on 6 years old.

The absolute minimum GPU I would recommend is an R7 380,which can be had for around $170 and is more than enough for GW2,and most other games, at high settings(Ultra settings in Gw2 is unfeasible for the foreseeable future).

Stutters when turning the camera in LA? I get quite a bit of that with Ultra Shadows. There are a few graphics options that are less than efficient,so i’ll quote myself from another forum.

  • Reflections- They’re heavy hitters considering the performance impact and the visual enhancement. Under each map is a large body of water. To make a lake in an area, they dip the terrain level into the water level. That water is constantly reflecting even if its no where in sight.
  • Character Model Limits/Quality- Model Limits impact the main bottleneck in Gw2(Draw Calls/Meshes) the most. I leave them on Med/High and High/Med for WvW
  • Shadows- Ultra Shadows seem to cause a nice amount of Frame Time Latencey(Time between frame draws). Not exactly sure if its due to ineffective culling(like the water reflections) or if its just an engine limitation.

And of course SuperSampling. Which i’ll leave to this incredibly old but still accurate article ,from Nvidia, to explain;

“Supersampling” is an antialiasing technique that is simply a brute-force approach and is used in NVIDIA’s GeForce2 GPUs and other modern graphics processors. A graphics processor that uses supersampling renders the screen image at a much higher resolution than the current display mode, and then scales and filters the image to the final resolution before it is sent to the display.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the graphics settings WP runs while making videos, but I’m almost positive they aren’t maxed.

According to the crash log my memory seems almost full??? But since the notebook is brand new and hardly any programms are installed it shouldnt be the case, right?

Depends on the PC. Every prebuilt PC(desktop, laptop, notebook, even tablets) I’ve ever seen comes with a ton of “bloatware” like HP Advisor,Driver Download Managers,Browser Toolbars, ect.

You can usually google “[PC maker here] Bloatware” and come up with a list of programs known to be installed and auto-run on various machines. Here’s one for HP and one for Dell as examples.

Not intimately familiar with Win10,so im not sure how many applications are typically running in a bloat-free system. I know in Win7 Ultimate i have 48 programs running while idling on desktop, including my monitoring programs, and only about 25% RAM Utilization

Have you tried repairing the gw2.dat file using Command Line Arguements ?

Upgrade tactics: CPU or GPU?

in Account & Technical Support

MrFayth.3546

If you have the budget for CPU upgrade, you’ll see the most performance from that, but you wont see any noticeable performance upgrade if your motherboard is Socket AM3 and only a slight performance upgrade if its AM3+ and can take an AMD FX8350. And I stress..the performance gained from a Phenom II to a Bulldozer will not be that great in Gw2.

My suggested upgrade path would be at least an Intel i5 4590+compatible motherboard+RAM and leave your 4870 in it for the time being. It is starting to show its age old but Gw2 will still be bottlenecked by the CPU Single Core Performance before the GPU majorly bottlenecked.

Filtering the floating damage numbers?

I don’t think its possible, currently,to do anything about minion/illusion/turret damage floaters. I know I would greatly enjoy being able to consolidate minion damage into a single 1 sec floater.

Auto attack+conditions+minions..it does get hard to read.
