What, in my opinion, is wrong with WvW

I. The current smallscale meta:
The only thing you see when roaming are thieves, stunlock warriors and mesmers. While it’s not only that they have great survivability and damage output, they also keep running away when going below 25% hitpoints. Without being one of them yourself, chasing them is near impossible. Thieves and mesmers will hide/port away, warriors will charge away with GS. All of ’em will remove snaring conditions as soon as they pop up, so running after them is near impossible. Balancing classes according to sPvP brought this into the game, introducing ruins got them to WvW.

The “smallscale” meta would be roamers. And as it turns out, escaping and survivability are big things in roaming. You can’t really blame the roamers running builds which are effective for roaming.

Then again I do plenty of roaming myself and I run a Sword/Shield + LB power Warrior.

III. The new map – are you kidding me?
While I completely understand that a coming release in China will make the queue situation worse, I completely disagree with a new map solving your problems. What will this new map lead to? First of all, it has been anounced to be a fantastic new map with a lot of opportunities for different playstyles in WvW. Why do you create such a “fantastic and awesome” new map only for the queues? It will result in players actually trying to join that map instead of EB or BLs, stealing needed manpower for the actual WvW maps. Besides that, don’t you think that creating more and more WvW maps for everyone in even more skilllags? Huge server lags will be incoming as soon as more players engage each other in even more WvW maps, making the current situation even worse. And – let’s be honest – I don’t think queues will be the biggest problems for the upcoming asian release. If the skilllag situation will stay the same, there won’t be enough players to make a new map necessary at all.

It was clarified by the devs that the new map is always accessible. The map is just different from the others in that if it happens to hit the player cap, an overflow of the same map is created.

Honestly, from the sound of it, the new map is going to be a place where you would mostly go when in queue for one of the primary 4 maps. After all, they did say that there’s no points in the new map.

New Earthshaker- Does an 2 second AoE Daze + cripple.

To compensate for the nerf, Unsuspecting Foe gives 50% more crit to Stunned and Dazed foes.

Um… what?

Throw in Leg Specialist and you have Daze + Immobilize, which is almost as good as a stun. Not to mention that Leg Specialist with Opportunist would give Fury. And Pommel Bash would also have Daze.

You might want to explain exactly why you’re suggesting such a change.

Remove Ascended from WvWvW

I find it hilarious, really, that people are claiming ascended gear doesn’t matter and won’t really make an impact in WvW. What about the words “statistical advantage” do you people not understand?

If you want to be a valuable WvW team player, you’re going to do everything you can to help your team. And that includes grinding out full ascended.

Well, there are multiple reasons people say that.

For one, Ascended gear or not, you’re still not gonna do crap against a door or a wall without siege. If you look at the damage numbers, the damage a regular ram deals without any rank-related skills far outdoes a vast number of players hitting the same door.

For two, Ascended gear or not, if you’re significantly outnumbers, you’re still going to lose. Doesn’t matter if you have 20% more damage if your enemy has 50% more people.

All these arguments for removing Ascended one way or another always present a situation where you have equal numbers and equal skill, with one side having all Exotics and the other having all Ascended. Well how freaking often would something like that happen? Pretty much never, unless you’re talking about GvG. And let’s be honest, if you wanted to balance WvW around GvG, you might as well balance sPvP on dueling, equally ridiculous. Oh and your “skill” means nothing against siege equipment.

If it’s irrelevant then what’s wrong with making it really irrelevant and disallowing it in WvW?

Because that will kitten off everyone who plays WvW and has gotten Ascended equipment.

The /deaths prefix

it would be like the invulnerable function of that bubble in the fire shaman battle. You cannot attack you cannot get hurt and with teh above suggestion to make chat disabled as ,long as you have it on, you can’t spy or divulge info about the enemy either.

Because every server totally doesn’t have their own WvW teamspeak channel, right? No one does that anymore, right?

If I want the satisfaction of getting all the JP’s I have to go into WvW and have to suffer the pain of other players who enjoy killing me.

Well, to put it simply: If you don’t like doing something, you don’t need to do it.

Could we have a “neutral” status in WvW where no points are gained for downing and where castles are open? Or even better an invulnerable status – to allow for those PvP’ers who would attack just for what they consider to be fun?

No, you can’t have that. It would be ridiculously easy to abuse for spying.

Adrenaline & Burst skills

It’s quite annoying that lot of traits based on keep adrenalin bar instead of use it.
+15% crit chance with full bar
+15% damage with full bar
Adrenal health heal more with full bar
healing surge healing with full bar

And all of this force warrior to use less buttons.. Engineer didn’t get bonuses with unactive tool belt, necromancer didn’t get bonuses with full DS bar, only when they use it. What do you think?

Warriors also have traits for:

  • Gaining adrenaline when hit
  • Gaining adrenaline on crit
  • Gaining adrenaline on shout
  • Removing conditions when you use Burst
  • Regenerating endurance when you use Burst

As long as the traits for using adrenaline are comparable to those of not using it, I see no problem. And honestly, Cleansing Ire ftw, dude!

Not for service but to cover Gem Store items and id pay the golden 14/month for a quality of life change.

Transmutation UI which cost gold
Hair Cut UI which cost gold
Unlimited Harvesting Tool
Access to a Banker Golem
Discount on Gem Store items
etc…

Stuff like that, of course it should only be for those who agree to a 6month contract.

There is no reason why the game can’t have both provided it’s done right.

So basically what you’re saying is:

  1. You want to and are able to pay a monthly fee
  2. What you could currently get by buying $14 worth of Gems per month does not get you enough of the stuff you want

Nice to know. Why not just be honest and write another QQ topic about how Gem Store items (and permanent contracts) are overpriced?

But yes, as others have pointed out, something like this just doesn’t work. People who truly only wish to support the game aren’t out here asking for sub fees, they’re in there buying gems and spending it on things like Bone Picks on all of their 47 alts. A lot of people are under the impression that monthly fees are some kind of golden ticket that will instantly improve bug fixing and quality of content. I guess those people missed how many recent games were complete disasters because they tried for a sub fee.

And when you put in an optional subscription fee, every time you add in new content, you have to answer the question “how could we make this so that it’s slightly better for the subscribers?” And that’s when the subscription is optional only in name.

Except that 30/0/0/10/30 doesn’t work anymore, what with Empower Allies being moved up to Master tier.

Not to mention, Sanny is running a full glass cannon build with literally zero means to counter conditions. Check the build:

  • No Cleansing Ire
  • No Berserker Stance
  • No Shake It Off
  • No Rune of Melandru
  • No Lemongrass Poultry Soup

I can understand getting killed by that (as it is a zerker build), but not being able to kill that just means you suck.

Killshot is not a real issue, high hp, high armor, good mobility, good cc, good damage, double shake it off, double endure pain, health regen from trinket, health regen from adrenaline, all this on one build. This is a problem. Its just to easy to be good with this spec because so much of it is passive. The ability to passively clear conditions from spec and passively gain endure pain just allow for sloppy play, you don’t have to worry about kittening up the game will cover for you and then to regen 500-600 hp a sec well running away with you GS is frustrating to anyone who has to chase you down.

Necros have just as much HP and no one complains that they have too much. The armor difference is negligible (2127 armor instead of 1836). Pretty much no one runs “double shake it off”, as in Shake it Off with Shrug it Off, that’d be 20 points into Tactics. Very few people run “double Endure Pain”, as in Endure Pain and Defy Pain, as that’s 30 points into Defense. Not to mention that Defy Pain kinda sucks, since it kicks in at a low percentage and does not protect against conditions.

By the way, what you just said amounts to running x/x/30/20/x, along with either Mace or Hammer. That pretty much means you have to run 30 into Discipline for Burst Mastery, but that puts you overdue at requiring 80 traitpoints. And most builds would also want the 10 into Arms for Unsuspecting Foe, further putting you deep into impossibility at 90 points.

In case you don’t know: Pretty much every warrior worth their dough runs 20 into Defense for Cleansing Ire and a minimum of 15 in Discipline for Fast Hands. That’s already half of your points spent.

1 sec CD between dodges

Um… I would think that the endurance requirements do that already.

Without Vigor, you’re looking at 1 dodge every 10s. With Vigor, 1 every 5s. The only class that gets more dodges than that is Thief, who can get 1 dodge every 7s without Vigor and every 4s with Vigor.

50 WXP ranks for achievement, too grindy

WvW Season 1 is going to run for 7 weeks, or 49 days. This means we have to get one world rank every day for 7 weeks. The only people who will be able to attain this are regular WvWers, the same ones who are in dedicated WvW guilds. Please be a bit more reasonable with how much gameplay is required, 10 or 20 WXP ranks would be fine, 50 is overboard.

I am not in any guild and I can get a single rank in a day without much trouble.

This is from the perspective of a casual WvW player, I have rank 30 on my Guardian and probably rank 50 or so across all my characters. I enjoy WvW a lot and it’s fun to strategize on voice chat (especially in small havoc teams) but I don’t know if I’m hardcore enough for this. ):

I got Rank 60 the other day on my Warrior and I surely don’t think it’s too much.

After all, if kitten hits the fan, you can always use Laurels for ranks. 49 days means you’ll be getting at least that many Laurels, possibly 20 more. That already amounts to 24-34 ranks. Even more so if you use characters that only have 1 rank, since Rank 1-4 takes 5000 WXP.

Allow us to ascend our exotic gear

What does annoy me though is the fact that I already spent a load of gems to get fine transmutation stones as to get the look and stats distribution that I wanted. So if I want to go for the new ascended gear; which I do; I have to buy all those fine transmutation stones again for 2 characters.

I want to see an option to allow us to ascend all the exotic gears either through the mystic forge or through crafting. This way current content that reward for exotic gear can still feel relevant to your progression towards your final stat setup. Having that intermediate stage before you get ascended gear also helps feel like your progressing your character.

What do you guys think?

The thing is, it wouldn’t work.

Currently, upgrading an Ascended backpiece with a skin on it results in losing the skin. This is because the Mystic Forge is not changing the items you put it, but rather destroying them and generating a new one.

Of course, the same is true for crafting.

And besides, making a process like that wouldn’t really make much sense for ANet. Having to transfer the skins over is what sells transfer stones. Asking them to do that for free is kinda silly, to be honest.

Finally, just because you spent Gems does not mean everyone else did. For example, when I first got to 80, I went around the temples getting Power/Toughness/Vitality mods for the temple skin. I did not spent a single Gem transmuting and getting a skin I wanted. In your scenario, I would be able to get Ascended, transfer the skins and never buy a single transmutation stone, all because coincidence happened and the skins I liked had the mods I wanted.

The rewards included in season 1 achievements should help to address this. Very specifically the ascended crafting materials. It is also the case, that we want people playing all the parts of the game, so there are always going to be optimal ways to get specific rewards and those may not always include WvW. We are building the whole of GW2 and we try and balance things across all the game types.

We will continue to make strides, however, to make WvW feel more rewarding, especially in this type of area.

I’m curious if you can name one thing achievable in WvWvW that isn’t faster and more abundant in PvE?

Thats 50% uptime.

Even easier on a Warrior, since with Fast Hands you only need 1 of those sigils. Any condi build should be able to push that to 100% uptime just from having +condi duration%.

Please either totally remove the new achievements from wvw or while queuing, give priority to the people with high ranks which suggest that they have been there fighting for their server when no one else did.

But where do you draw the line for “high rank”? I’ve recently achieved Rank 60, but I have seen people that should have 200+.

However, have you looked at the achievements? There’s a handful that can be easily achieved, but then there are some that a PvE player probably isn’t going to bother with. For example, getting 50 ranks.

And besides, it’s just started, of course it’s going to be chuck full of people.

But what? You like to build bunkers? Well you don’t have to anymore when everyone is nuking. Don’t build a bunker. Fight nukes with nukes.

Look at it this way. Have you ever seen a firefighter who stacks tons of defensive stats and goes into a building through hellfire and worse while evading burning debree? No. If there is a fire, they nuke the place. The fire no longer spreads. The fire no longer exists. No fire – no problem. Nukes work.

But you like supporting? Support your team with damage.

Look at it this way. A young girl is being attacked in an alley by two thugs. What do you do? Throw out heals, might, protection, and support the girl? Do you build defensive stats so you can safely watch her be attacked from a safe distance? Or do you just down and stomp the two thugs. That’s right. Damage. Nukes work.

Nukes work.

Wait, what’s that you say? Your bunker chains evades and wears his opponent out instead of stacking defensive stats? Well guess what. Your opponent got bored of punching at you and missing, so he takes out a gun. He shoots you. You’re dead. You can’t evade a gun, this isn’t the matrix. But imagine if you had a nuke instead of those evades. What’s a gun compared to a nuke? No one is going to shoot at you if you nuke them.

That’s why toughness, healing power, and vitality should be removed from all gear in guild wars 2.

Considering that ANet previously nerfed Quickness, saying that it was making PvP encounters boring burst-fests, I would think they disagree.

Also, it wouldn’t take much trouble at all to make similar points around the opposite. THat is, it would be easy to make arguments that support taking away all damage mods from gear.

Well, the thing is, Hammer is a pretty boring weapon to watch on video. It’s pretty much always the same combo. Add in the fact that GS is another boring weapon and you end up with… double boring?

But at least it’s not GS/Mace+Shield or Hammer/Mace+Shield.

Lest we forget the ultimate Guardian weapon combos: Moonshine/Courage (dual wield booze) and Kevin/Adam (a femur and a skull). And the Pirate Torch, a spine with an opened skull and flame coming out the top… Sure, plenty of gag weapons but I see no harm in the banana scythe, especially since it’ definitely already in lore

There’s also Zhaitan’s Reach, which is a severed arm.

Honestly, I have to say no to that.

It’s already bad enough that we have a candy cane hammer skin.

Personally, if I want hilarity out of my weapons, I think I already have ample options. In fact, I already use:

  • A wrench mace skin (Fixer Upper)
  • A wooden sword (Toy Sword)
  • A wooden dagger (Toy Dagger)
  • A slingshot (Slingshot)

If I used a profession with Scepters or Foci, I would use Courage or Princess Wand for sure.

I came up with the best glass cannon build I could find, and I still only do 30% of the damage a warrior (with twice my health and armor ) does.

All of what you just said there is bullkitten.

First off, it’s been proven like a billion times that the DPS differences between professions aren’t that great. You’re basically claiming that a glass cannon Warrior has thrice the DPS of a glass cannon Ele, which is obviously not the case.

Similarly, at full glass cannon, we’re talking 10,805 hp on Ele and 18,372 hp on Warrior, an increase of 70%, not 100%.

Finally, a glass cannon Ele has 1,836 armor and a glasscannon Warrior has 2,127. That’s an increase of 16%, a farcry from the 100% that you claimed.

If you want to be taken even remotely seriously, stop using such ridiculous hyperbola. If you’re that interested, most people view that Eles are fine in terms of HP because they have access to Regeneration, Protection and permanent Vigor. Warrior has no access to Protection, Regeneration takes 30 points into a traitline and getting permanent Vigor requires a specific weapon (OH Warhorn) plus 20 points into a traitline and extra Boon Duration.

- Decrease CD to 35 sec from 45 sec (28sec with Quick Venoms)
Venomous aura
- When a thief uses Venoms with Venomous Aura without other players in range, Venoms have 35/28 sec CD. Increase cooldown by 2 seconds for every player gaining Venoms from Venomous Aura.
Here is an example
0 player = 35/28 sec CD
1 player = 37/30 sec CD
2 players = 39/32 sec CD
3 players = 41/34 sec CD
4 players = 43/36 sec CD

Fixed that a bit, at least to what I understood. Basically, you want to lower the base CD to 35s, but have Venomous Aura increase the CD by 2s for every player that gets Venoms from Venomous Aura, right?

I figure you’re asking for this as a means of promoting using Venoms for solo builds, while not technically hurting the current Venom share builds. However, I have to say that Venom sharing isn’t that common of a build to begin with, so I don’t see any reason for Venomous Aura to have such a downside.

If you want to lower the cooldowns, rather have the effects downscaled accordingly over punishing one of the only builds that actually uses Venoms.

Most gamers can’t handle failure. Or stat optimization for that matter. Most games that are sold as “RPGs” are little more than Action games with costumes.

If you want to play a real RPG, you still have to go back to pen and paper because games where you can fail don’t sell, and games that don’t sell don’t get made.

Yup.

The new generation of gamers have got to be by far the most spoiled and half brain dead zombies I have ever seen. Rewards are expected for doing tasks that require ZERO cognitive functions.

I am not that old and I remember when the only thing you got as reward was “The princess is in another castle”.

A simple solution would be an internal cooldown of 5 second for each skill…
sword auto? 1 every 5 sec
bladetrail —> switch --> hammer shock | no internal cd

You really don’t think that part of the reason for the ICD in the first place is swapping between sets that have Cripple/Immobilize?

Would there be much reason to use a sword without that, though? Swords do less damage than axes and lack the control provided by maces – so the only real reason to pick them is for the cripple and leap.

Remove the cripple from swords, and I don’t think you’d see swords getting used too terribly often.

Plenty of people use Swords for condi damage and there’s been multiple topics about changing Hamstring to give Poison instead of Cripple.

And I guess that this goes to show that yes, with Cripple on Sword, there needs to be an ICD to Leg Specialist.

Honestly, I don’t see how it could be done properly.

Your way of doing it just seems like something that would end up with people using it to cherry pick the best DPS or whatever. And that’s definitely not a good way to go about it.

On the other hand, I am not sure that implementing some kind of queue system (like what we have with WvW) would be that good of an idea either.

gg, you killed it… it was underpowered as it was, not overpowered.

How so? It costs a measly 2 initiative points? Granted Guardians can shrug it off better now, but most classes don’t have boons galore like they do.

1 boon….only 1 boon, and majority of the time its an insigificant boon to rip off -_- requiring spam to peel off his multiple layers…

Maybe, I dunno, Anet figured that it’s not right to have a build that can effectively steal all boons from a build.

It’s not a skill that you’re supposed to spam to cripple your enemy. Use it well to counter the important things like Protection. Not like you can’t use Bountiful Theft.

Heck, you should be glad that it’s still an actual boon steal and not just a boon rip.

Because you don’t need to send detailed data from those 100 mobs to every one of those 100 players. Whereas if you’re attacking the same mob, you’re required to send the same data (which updates in real time, btw) to all participants. Which can be any number from 1 to … map cap.

But if you buff the bad professions, all you’re going to achieve is make a new subset of the professions “bad”, which you’ll then have to buff. And then you’ll have again changed the subset of “bad” professions, which will need buffing.

The same is of course true for nerfing professions, but the difference is that by buffing the player characters, you’re making PvE content easier and risk running to a point where all characters are bursty, dulling PvP encounters into “who gets their burst off first without being foiled”.

+15% on 3sec is 0,45 sec… but on a 1sec stun like the shield thats a COMPLETE JOKE!

Because there are stuns in the game that have ridiculously short durations that would benefit ridiculously from +0.5s. Such as:

  • Shield Bash
  • Pistol Whip
  • Basilisk Venom
  • Shocking Aura

Considering that we get a base 50% uptime on Swiftness from Signet of Rage and the fact that you can easily get Warrior’s Sprint, I don’t see any reason to even consider Rune of Traveler for Warrior.

Unlike some professions, Warrior doesn’t get a +25% movement speed signet, so a lot of the appeal of Rune of Traveler is lost.

Clearly, these people aren’t reading the description of the item anyway, since “unique” is a word that only appears in Ascended pieces.

Honestly, I am against changing the way Unique functions. Make it more visible, yes. Make it go away, no. The reasoning is simple: hundreds of players have had to buy a single offensive and a single defensive ring if they wanted identical stats. These people far outnumber the ones that have bought two of the same exact ring only to find out that they can only equip one. So if you’re going to screw someone over, screw the minority.

The thing is, there are a handful of variants of a condi warrior. Well, they all tend to run S/S with a Longbow, that’s a given.

But for traits, you can go either 0/30/20/0/20 or 0/20/20/0/30. The former build tends to go with Rabid armor while grabbing Furious for good adrenaline regeneration. The latter is what you would do with Dire armor, since Furious is going to prove rather useless when your crit rate is crap. The traits that you pick are pretty obvious: Deep Cuts and either Blademaster or Opportunist in Arms, Dogged March and Cleansing Ire in Defense. The only trait of interest in Discipline is Burst Mastery, but you might want to look into Warrior’s Sprint, Vigorous Focus and Signet Mastery.

The sigils, runes and food that you pick is entirely up to you. Some people really like running Melandru with Lemongrass Poultry Soup for all the -condi duration%, whereas others will go for +condi% food or +bleed duration% runes to get to a total +100% duration on their bleeds. Some like running Sigil of Corruption for the +250 condi damage, others like grabbing Sigil of Earth for extra bleeds. Heck, Sigil of Agony is also an option, as that will push you over 100% condi duration with either the +40% food or +45% from runes.

Do remember that Sword MH isn’t a pure condi weapon. The autoattack chain has good speed and decent damage and Final Thrust at <50% HP is actually identical to a full adrenaline Eviscerate for damage. You can easily run Sword MH as a direct damage spec.

Your setup for the Warrior there is kinda crap. No one is going to be running anything close to that outside of PvE.

With Final Thrust, I only need them down past 50% HP which tends to be easy for a warrior because having a high crit rate and sustain is almost natural for them. With Backstab I must be stealthed, behind them and have them down past 50% HP to get the full effect.

That and the fact that with Executioner, you won’t have 100% crit chance on your Backstab, whereas Sword/Shield with Unsuspecting Foe gets you 100% crit chance on Final Thrust.

My thief has 10 points to spend on survival while the war has 30. Not only that after my Warrior is finished with Final Thrust he still has Whirling Axe which I have seen hit up past 10k easily. Then you have to factor in the continuing damage from sword bleeds and Flurry, if it hits.

Whirling Axe is crap. It might have decent damage, but it can easily be interrupted or simply avoided.

I guess you were trying to show that Final Thrust is better than Backstab. I think you failed on multiple accounts there:

  • Your warrior traits are a PvE mess
  • Your warrior is using PvE runes for some reason
  • Your numbers don’t take into account the respective cooldowns

Is what I will run when i get the chance. 20k HP is enough, though more would certainly be useful. 67% crit with fury. I also think more rabid over dire is best because as far as i know, Sigil of earth and the 5 in arms dont have an ICD, which makes dual shot on LB and flurry able to stack quite a bit of bleeds.

Sigil of Earth has a 2s ICD. Precise Strikes has no ICD.

And quite honestly, I don’t see the point behind going for Opportunist over Blademaster. If it’s +crit chance% you’re looking for, Blademaster is superior on average and up to 62% of the time. Opportunist is only a better option for those 18 seconds that your Signet of Rage is not providing you with Fury.

PvE and SPvP are arguable, but can anybody really say with a straight face that rezzing was meant to be used in WvW it currently is? No they can’t.

I’ve seen six arrow carts and AoEs from a good 20 people all concentrating on the same tightly clustered 80 man zerg, without a single person dying; going down yes, but only to be rezzed instantly and then shamble out of range. Once a zerg gets to a certain number, the rez mechanic becomes literal invincibility. Anyone who says that was intended is either completely ignorant of game design or abuses it themselves and wishes to continue doing so.

Couldn’t they just do something with the downed penalty instead? Currently, you can essentially get downed twice before you get instantly killed. They could change that, for example have it reduce your maximum HP.

And honestly, I wish the downed penalty was visible to your enemy, that would add a strategic element to it. And it would actually make Thieves useful at something.

I don’t think that’s a good idea.

I mean, who would use it for 5 stacks anyway? That’s kitten weak compared to the benefits you can get from staying in stealth with points in Shadow Arts.

+5% damage for everyone who attacks the taget isn’t that bad. And when changing heartseeker to work with vulnerability stacks, it would give you a benefit for using more then only 1 of your skills.

The damage would not be done instant like with the current backstab.
You would have to build up for your good damage making it more interesting to play and others wouldn’t complain about getting to much damage with a single hit.

5 Stacks of vulnerability would be useless for PvP. And with Backstab useless, no one would play D/D and D/P would be reduced into a troll/chase spec. Enjoy your masses of evade-spamming S/D thieves.

My Idea to balance:

Stealing recharges all skills of one type (venoms, signets, traps, tricks, or deceptions) one of your utility skills. Deal 10% 20% more damage while wielding a bundle.

That sounds like it could be abused to get around the longer cooldowns on certain skills, such as Shadow Refuge, Dagger Storm or Roll for Initiative.

After all, if all of my skills except one are out of cooldown, it will have to recharge the one that is in cooldown, right?

But Vulnerability already does that?

Not to mention that outside of Body Shot, Thief has crappy access to Vulnerability. And it would make Thieves spam Heartseeker in dungeons because of having 20+ stacks on bosses constantly.

Dagger is already a kitten boring weapon in PvE, there’s really no need to make it any more boring.
