Winter's Presence Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have to say that the problems with the supply of Sigils/Runes point to a lack of control or oversight.

I appreciate that an MMO is a very complex system and it’s impossible to keep everything in mind at all times but who decided to remove/change the drops for this years Wintersday? Why didn’t they know that these drops were required for current content?

A simple search on the GW2 wiki would have let them know that they were needed and common sense would dictate that the mechanism for crafting the Sigils and Runes was excessively costly given the cost of Mystic Coins.

In general I get the feeling that ArenaNet is a little chaotic here, people seem to make weird decisions. The alternative is that they intend this to be the way that this item is crafted in which case it’s just a massive money sink; it already costs over 800g (including the 10,000 drinks) to craft the item, if you had to craft all 50 Sigils and Runes from scratch then the cost of Winter’s Presence would be over 1600g.

Winter’s Presence should be a fun little thing you can work towards but it really is a massive mess up IMO. Firstly 10,000 drinks is far from reasonable, secondly removing drops required for it indicates a carelessness or a deliberate attempt to further drive up the cost of an already expensive item.

Rune of Mischief/Snowfall--HOARDED/UNFARMABLE

Im guessing your one such hoarder. 30,000 units of said item are bought within the first 24 hours of wintersday release leaving barely 200 units for sale. Items ARE HOARDED until buy orders reach an all time high. At this point HOARDER begins to slowly release unit of said item back into the marker for huge profit.

HOARDER effectively flips market securing thousands of gold for themselves. Item is no longer farmable as a result of it not dropping from mobs and its components mystic coins is not farmable. HOARDER effectively capitalizes on market.

Stop trying to make me sound like the bad person when gold thirsty people (possible you) are making this game toxic.

Nope, I don’t have a single one of these Runes or Sigils, I don’t think I ever did.

I’m not trying to make you sound like a bad person just pointing out that you’re not making a lot of sense.

Dear Anet,

Why are the runes I need for Winters Presence currently undroppable in the game ? its been over a week and you have not acted. Instead, you allow the hoarders get free gold becuase you anet yes you have messed up.

I do not want to purchase these runes from the TP and feed hoarders my earned gold, while they kick back/relax and watch the thousands of gold roll into their account wallet.

Please make these sigils drop from the events, reward tracks, or jormag or anything. — if not well I have no reason to play this game anymore because its just BS continually feeding my gold to hoarders. Same goes for mystic coins.

I highly doubt, I am the only one that feels this way. the replies to this thread are likely from hoarders of such sigils and other such hoarders.

@ hoarders please leave your api key in the post so I can view your hoarded items and join in ruining the game for everyone.
=======

1) As Inculpatus cedo pointed out, if someone is selling something then they’re not hoarding it.
2) Just because something like this is in someone’s bank it doesn’t make that person a bad person. That’s just really, really silly.
3) These runes and sigils can be crafted so they are just as obtainable this year as they were last year. You may not like the cost of crafting them but that’s just one of the many costs of Winters Presence.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_Mischief
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Snowfall

4) The costs of these items on the trading post is a lot cheaper than the cost of crafting them. You should be thanking the “hoarders” for selling them rather than complaining about them.

As disgusting at that behavior is, its the behavior of a FM. I don’t think ANet should step in unless this becomes a chronic problem (ie the price hasn’t dropped significantly even after a few months)

and what have every single person be forced to buy t2 mats for 3 gold if they want some cool decorations i think not this is utterly horrible and should be punished.

Surely it’s as likely that the cheap ones were snapped up by people who used them for crafting as it was that they were bought up by a flipper?

The price is currently at 1.55 buy/2.22 sell so Onyx Fragments, Molten Fragments and Piles of Foul Essence are all T2 mats that cost a little more than the Glacial Fragments. I don’t think this is a huge issue.

HoT Story and LW3 vs HoT Map Compl

Kinda related to this, I guess, because of how everything is interconnected?…

I left like 15 months ago, short of logging in every day for a freebie, and recently [other game] was down for a few days due to [reasons] and was bored and picked this up again.

I don’t know if it’s been simplified or made more solo-friendly or just taking a step back and putting fresh eyes on it, but I’m having a blast again, and kinda sad I stopped playing 15 months ago.

But, it’s still here, so I’m back and pushing on, for as long as I have time. Cleared the first map, nearly the second map (I need poison lore and exalted, I think, so finish two points in that 2nd map), and I’m in the third now. I’m taking my time, paralleling the story and map clearing and stopping to get caught up in all the events with everyone.

Tooling around in my Nature’s Oath and HoT glider, looking to blend in with the local vines.

Yeah, I quit for a few months too but I came back after the April patch when they reworked the rewards, made playing in the HoT zones a lot less painful and removed a lot of the grind. It really had to be done as HoT at launch was pretty terrible, IMO.

Anyway, not that you asked for it but I unlocked the masteries in this order, it seemed the best way of making sure that I could use the various travel options as soon as possible:

Gliding:
Glider Basics - 1 Mastery point
Updraft Use – 2 Mastery points

Itzel:
Bouncing Mushrooms – 1 Mastery point

Nuhoch:
Nuhoch Hunting - 1 Mastery point
Nuhoch Wallows – 2 Mastery points

Exalted:
Exalted Markings – 1 Mastery point

Then I went gliding to the end. After that I just started finishing off the lower level ones in a fairly random manner. It might have made more sense to finish things in a different order (I’m still finishing some of the HoT collections, and some of those require different masteries).

We are discussing this internally.

While you guys are at this maybe you should consider removing the Achievement leader-boards entirely? They’re a pointless competition that no new player will ever be able to compete in (LS1 alone has seen to that). Then create more Achievements that can award higher points.

An Achievement should be a fun little thing that pops up in the corner of the UI as you play and an occasional source of little “thanks for playing” rewards. They shouldn’t be something you measure yourself against other players by; that’s PvP’s job.

Why do we have the “rep” Feature

Why we cant just have one guilid.

Every big guild got like 60% active guild members who “stand” for their guild.

The rest is just in the guild for “beeing in the guild”

Just one Guild would be better in my opinion.

SHOW YOUR FLAG AND STAND FOR IT!

Tbh there should only be ONE guild and then have the alliance system from gw1 ported all our problem solved.

I wasn’t aware that the gw2 system where you are able to read chat from hundreds of people across up to 5 guilds was a problem. I wasn’t aware that being able to be a member of up to 5 specialty guilds where each focus on a different, specific play style was a problem. I wasn’t aware that a system where guild can specialize and not have to worry about being too narrowly specialized to retain members was a problem.

In fact, I think none of these are a problem.

Yeah, I can’t see any problems here at all.

This cannot be changed now. Reducing the number of guilds you can be a part of will cause huge disruption and destroy guilds and communities and for what? Because some people think it’ll be better to only be in one guild? Daft.

Fine, so only join one guild that requires members to rep 100% of the time. “Problem” solved.

Everyone says “wee Need new Content” , but then if new Content Comes, everybody rushes all archievements and everything with gw2 dulfy and so on..

Think about it.

What a revelation! Why has no-one ever realised this before. Oh wait, after thinking about it, this statement is factually incorrect in a number of ways.

1) Everyone does not say we need new content.
2) Everybody does not rush all the achievements.
3) Everybody does not use Dulfy.

Some of us use Dulfy occasionally, for example, I used her site to find the last page in Bloodstone Fen, I was looking for about an hour for the last page then gave up, went to Dulfy and facepalmed because I must have ran/glided past it a dozen times.

As many others have said no-one has to go to any site, Dulfy is really no “worse” than the official wikis.

As for the idea that they should “ban” Dulfy or other sites/youtube channels or that no-one figures out anything anymore those notions are just as laughable as the OPs.

It’s an easter egg; it needn’t be easily farmed.

I guess the only ‘easter-eggish’ thing about it is that one line that says it belonged to Rurik. For the rest it offers no further lore.
Compare the method of acquiring it with the way you get ascended rings from other maps. Costs way more effort for the same reward.

The same could be said for any of the exotic Mystic Forge weapons that cost more than an ascended weapon does (although of course those have skins). Should they all be elevated to ascended weapons because the cost is high?

The “cost” of getting this may be one petrified wood or a million. I can’t imagine they intended for people to farm for this, rather it’s a nice to find if it drops, but they probably knew that a handful of people will farm the hell out of it expecting something amazing and be disappointed at the payout. That’s inevitable.

I wonder, what would be a worthwhile payout for you? (Bearing in mind that an ascended weapon costs about 60 or so gold to make).

I was confused as well cuz I seemed to have somehow jumped from killing Mordremoth to Bloodstone Fen, and there’s these NPCs talking to me about stuff I don’t recall ever seeing. As far as I can tell, I supposed to go to the raid, Forsaken Thicket, before Bloodstone Fen?
Anyway, now I’m in BF and can’t do much cuz I never leveled up my gliding. Ah well!

No, the raid is completely unrelated to LS3. Everything they talk about there happened in the HoT story.

Edit: Now that I think of it most of what I remember is from HoT but a lot of the background to the LS3 story happened in GW1 (Mursaat, bloodstones, the White Mantle and so on). Even more is in the human personal story (Noble origin and Missing Parents) and the Caudecus’s Manor dungeon. There is some more background in LS1 and LS2 so it’s quite probable that some of it may be in the raids too as that also deals with the White Mantle.

As for masteries, you only need gliding, updrafts and bouncing mushrooms. (Higher level gliding is very useful though).

I think it’s a huge mistake to assume that every rock on the tp comes from someone farming for them. Also you may be giving constructive criticism but the op came across as someone throwing his toys out of the pram because he wanted more and that sets the tone for the thread. As for this drop, it seems like a nice little thing to get and figure out, not something you should farm for, but some people have to have it the moment they hear about something.

So, I decided to come back after about a year away, and as I go around in game, Im noticing that there is nobody around. I wouldn’t mind coming back and playing, but I would like to know if there are still lots of people playing this game?

What makes you think they were different instances? It’s possible you could have been dropped into a new server but in Europe I’ve never been in an empty map for any city. If I’m near the bank, trading post or crafting tables I see people coming and going constantly.

The only place that Heroes make sense in GW2 is in instanced content, not the open world. That would just turn every class into a pet class and really overload the megaservers (as it is I can’t see my mini pets half the time).

We already have Heroes in the LS (Braham, Rox et al), I would love to be able to choose my party and set their builds and so on for LS instances or dungeons like I did in GW1 but I can’t see ArenaNet doing it anytime soon.

Seriously. On average it takes hundreds of petrified wood + karma for skritt staches (it took me over 300+ staches to get the rock, other people reporting no drop in a larger amount of staches). More time to open all these staches, just to get a trophy item that leads to an ascended ring after a mystery that took people months to solve.
No aura, no achievement, it does not even have all 3 infusion slots. This whole thing must be a bad joke from Anet considering rings are the easiest ascended equipment to get.
Basically this whole item is a colossal waste of development resources and a missed opportunity to introduce a legendary ring.
I know I should have waited for other people to build this ring before I invest time into it, but this is just another example of effort vs reward not matching.

Wow, hyperbole overload here! “A colossal waste of development resources”? Really?

It’s a little drop with a simple, quick, 4-step process (go here and use the thing) that turns it into a free ascended ring that can have any possible stat combination.

The real question here is why did you think that there would be a greater payout than an ascended item? Because it took you a long time to get the drop?

Let's talk about Triforge

Exactly. I runned with a celestial guardian for 2 years. Then I started to get my alts on full ascended meta gear, and once I realized the brutal difference, I gave up on using it. But I still keep the amulet ofc, and I CANT GET OVER THE FACT THAT THE MOST SHINY AMULET IS CRAP COMPARED TO THE OTHERS. HELP US ANET!!!

I wonder if there really is an “us” here, you seem to think that other people feel the same way you do but I’ve never seen anyone else care about this.

It’s absolutely no different to any other amulet. . If it means so much to you and you don’t currently have a working celestial build then keep it in your bank for the future but I really can’t see them giving this amulet any special consideration just because you spent gold on it.

Hey, at least Celestial stats are more useful than most of the stat combinations in game.

This idea will have no influence on the TP barons other than possibly to motivate them to play the TP more so they have more money to spend on buying this new gold sink stuff.

I am honestly baffled that there are people complaining about new ascended armor exclusively from pvp when it was previously only rng from this game mode.

Lord help me

I’m amazed at all the complaints in general (I know, I know, it’s the internet so I shouldn’t be; if ArenaNet gave everyone a golden goblet then someone would complain that it made their coffee taste awful) but then I like the sound of Season 5 a lot.

Separating pips (for rewards) and the division system (for prestige) is a great idea.

I don’t understand the objection with matchmaking looking for the best games (i.e. a 50-50 chance), I fail to see what the alternative is or even what else would/could work? I wonder what those complaining about it really want? Do they know? Or do they just want matchmaking that gets them more wins… somehow?

I love the idea of being able to get unique ascended armour in this mode, all modes should have more unique reward skins, IMO.

Not facing 5 man premades anymore sounds good to me (although maybe there should be an option to create a 5 man and queue to face other 5 mans but that could lead to long queues).

This is looking like a great improvement over the previous seasons and I’m really looking forward to it!

when will season 5 arrive? this year or next year?

New about season 5 is coming very Soon™!

Now it will be funny if it is announced that it is coming next year.

Well, next year is less than a month away and ArenaNet have typically not released a lot between mid December and mid January. I can only assume that a lot of their staff like to take some time off at this time of year and the last thing they want is to drop content that may have bugs when the people needed to fix those bugs are at home.

So if it’s not next week (probably won’t be) it will be next year (probably at the end of January). That’s not surprising or all that unusual to me.

I’m looking forward to season 5, that is if the changes they make are sensible and progression for the league achievements has been separated from crossing divisions.

Um, a monarchy is, by definition, a dictatorship:
Dictatorship:
" a country, government, or the form of government in which absolute power is exercised by a dictator."

Monarchy:
“a state or nation in which the supreme power is actually or nominally lodged in a monarch.”

In the UK (as well as other nations), the monarch is only nominally in charge; the laws are made by the popularly-elected government (if by “popularly-elected” we include the House of Lords). In a traditional monarchy, the monarch holds absolute power.

You might be thinking of a benevolent monarchy, in which the monarch chooses to act in the interests of the people. However, even then, they can change their mind at any time or relinquish the throne (due to death or personal choice) to someone who is not benevolent. Either way, it’s a dictatorship.

But it’s highly misleading to refer to a monarchy as a dictatorship. When you use the word “dictatorship” in a conversation it invokes images of Stalin, Mussolini, Castro, etc.

The OP use of the term “crown based dictatorship” is nothing but misleading rhetoric attempting to paint Krytan government as bad, when the Krytan government is certainly a benevolent monarchy.

It’s not “highly misleading” unless you misunderstand the terms. The OP is correct that Queen Jennah is a dictator — what happens if she was assassinated during one of the many “recent” attempts and Caudecus took power?

Sure, she’s a benevolent dictator, but she still has absolute control; her word is law.

We have no real idea of the Krytan system of government beyond knowing that there is an Minstry consisting of elected representatives who draw up the laws, those laws are approved by the King or Queen.

I don’t know if this is an Absolute Monarchy but I’d be surprised if Jenna herself was not also subject to the laws of the land (otherwise I think the Ministry would have been purged long ago and Caudacus’s head would have been on a spike by now).

Playing Scarlet's War as a Retrospect

in Living World

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

Regardless, I’ve explained why I think it’s incredibly unlikely that we’ll see ANet even contemplate this until an expansion exceeds expectations and the next one is being produced.

For a complete re-addition of LS1 yes an expansion and some good sales might be needed. But adding just some of the instances back so new players know who this Braham person is or who this Rox person is, shouldn’t require an insane amount of development resources.

“adding some instances back” — again, those instances were designed as temporary content. They can’t be “just added back” without context, which requires attention to other details, too.

The point isn’t whether this is or is not an “insane amount of development resources,” it’s that it isn’t trivial. At that point, what’s the best use of ANet’s resources? Retooling old content? or introducing new content?

The closest compromise we’ve seen is that 4 of the 15 current fractals re-use instances from the Living World (aka LS1 aka Scarlet’s war), without any introduction or orientation to the original stories. The 16th fractal looks to be another LS1 re-use.

Yes, it’s far from trivial, they have to update the instances to work with the current game systems, none of us armchair programmers really understand the amount of effort required in design, development and QA for that.

There were few story instances in LS1, a lost of the story was told in the open world events, without those open world elements they will need to develop and add in a storyline that links the instances together in a coherent manner otherwise new players will find themselves just as confused by a bunch of disjointed instances (and the content will look terrible).

Although I’d quite like to see them restore LS1 in some fashion, I’d prefer they put their resources into creating new content. Reworking LS1 to fit with the current game is a huge task and I just don’t see it being worth their while right now (and neither do they, apparently).

Ultimately it comes down to this: it’s their game and they can change it in any way that they see fit. ArenaNet do not need to ask you or anyone else to approve any changes that they make. They will do what they think is best for the game.

You bought a key that allowed you to create an account that allows you to play that game. The account and everything in it remains the property of ArenaNet.

(Also, weapons never broke beyond repair and you could always buy gold with gems and buy gems with real money, there were no changes there).

This game is pay to win, Slightly.

It’s pretty obvious that the OP has created his own definition of pay 2 win and therefore has declared GW2 is pay 2 win.

GW2 should have been human only.

You spend 40g a week on food and stones for WvW? Seems like that’s the problem to me.

Perfect is the enemy of good. IMO, it’s far better to downgrade to the cheaper variants of consumables and enjoy what you like playing with stats that are a little less than the very best than have to spend time grinding gold to afford the best buffs.

Exactly, you can pay 1g for the permanent outfitter item in WvW, then use badges to buy the “next best” food to use and it costs nothing. Bam, 40g saving per week.

As stated this is for wvw. 40 players running food that gives 60 stats going against a group of players with food giving 80 stats is a difference of 800 stats (basic example). Include the fact you could be fighting near a tower with all those guild buffs that gives the enemy another 200 stats per player higher than your group…

You see how this rapidly snowballs out of control right? Much of this is fundamental problem wrong with WvW (such as giant stat boosts from buffs) but working with the system we currently have 10~20 stats spread across enough players is a pretty huge difference.

As it stands it is either use the best food & have the best chance at winning or using subpar food and limiting yourself.

I think you’re grossly overstating the importance of 20 points. Base stats are 1000. 20 points are 2% of that. The 20 points difference from the two types of food is closer to 1% when you factor in the bonus from armour, weapons, runes and so on. The difference between having full Exotic and having full Ascended equipment (with infusions) is much larger but still not huge. Communication, tactics, skill (and luck) will have far more bearing on the fights than those 20 points.

We’re talking about an individual player here and I get that your example (40 players using +60 vs 40 players using +80 food) is an extreme one to illustrate a point but bringing in the 200 point tower bonus is a bit of a smokescreen. Flip your example around and if the 40 players using the 60 point food are fighting in their tower and getting a 200 point bonus while the enemy 40 players using the 80 point food aren’t then it’s 260 points vs 80. That “proves” that you should only be fighting in your own towers (and preferably only with Superior Borderlands Bloodlust) in order to have “the best chance at winning”. It’s never that simple is it?

Lastly, if one of those players on the +80 side is not actually playing WvW because he’s busy farming PvE in order to be able to afford that extra 20 point from food then you’re looking at 40 players with +60 food vs 39 players with +80 food. I think the extra player will be worth more.

I really want this back piece on my Charr but when I looked at a few Charrs who have the back piece I couldn’t help but die a little on the inside… It looks so wonky and weird when running like they’re about to fall in front of themselves due to the positioning of the wings.

In OP’s picture I think the wings when in combat stance should be more vertical, upright. Not splayed out like a dog’s breakfast in front of the player. That does look awkward.

Exactly! I have a Charr too and they are even WORSE!!! They have a “hunched backs” already which btw i am totally fine with that, i think they look cool!! But with the positioning of this wings …hey, just look at my lovable Charr ANET! Can you really call this a “Wings”??

This is laughable

The same with any backpacks on Charr since launch, they slide up to their shoulders when weapons are drawn. It’s been reported so many times but hasn’t been fixed.

I brought HoT when it was on preorder I did the story around release but I really haven’t started working on mastery points until the last month or so. I have to say that adventures are a PITA. I hate that I already have to achievement hunt to try and complete my mastery lines. I don’t mind looking for insights and strongboxes but neither adventures or achievements should be mandatory to try and finish masteries.

The worst are the Core Tyria Mastery Points IMO, so few of them available at all.

This is unquestionably the worst designed event in all of GW 1 and GW 2. How could developers with any experience at all think this was well designed?

I think that’s still the Mordrem Bloom events. This is a strange design though, like the team hasn’t learned from past events.

To be honest, I expected GW2 to have it already when I bought it – simply because of the personal story. It seemed pointless to me to have a personal story where every choice you make ultimately adds up to you killing Zhaitan. Could you imagine how cool it would be if you were able to join him?

How can half the players join Zhaitan and the other half kill him in an MMO? That’s the kind of thing you can do in single player/co-op games but not MMOs. The entirety of Season 2, HoT and Season 3 are based on that single story thread “Zhaitan’s dead, lets go kill another dragon!”

As for the OP are you basically suggesting that they add a load of new professions? I don’t think that’s even remotely feasible. They have a lot of difficulty balancing the 9 they already have. That balancing is harder with the 9 elite specialisations they already have. Another expansion will likely add yet another 9 elite specialisations.

Either way effectively deleting a character and starting from scratch doesn’t sound like fun to me. Map and world completion isn’t hard (or even that interesting past the first time) it’s just time consuming. If you want to restart at level 1 then can just delete an existing character or buy another slot.

that cool sound is gone from it already… can never have nice things… “bug” lol right how you bug in a sound. Doubt it will ever get a dye that would be too much of a draw. shame

How do you “bug in a sound”? Well, one way is by associating a sound with a particle effect in your game engine and then reusing that particle effect in a new way with unintended consequences.

Plus, magic would probably nullify all use of really any weapons advancement. I mean you’ve seen what Countess Anise and Kasmeer can do, right?

Exactly, what use is heavy armour if the person you’re facing can boil your brains with their mind?

Crossbows < Firearms

Not going to happen.

Bows already don’t make sense.

In our world firearms rapidly made previous armour, weapons and fighting styles obsolete. Tyria is a magical, fantastical world so the same rules don’t have to apply.
