Warrior just isn’t the same as it once was. The truth is that you won’t recognise its losses because you weren’t around for the time at which it was in a much better place than it is now.
It doesn’t have the absolute worst damage out of all the classes but it’s towards the lower end of the spectrum and has obviously lower than average DPS.
However it has banners and an OP trait called Phalanx Strength which gives people a reason to justify taking it these days still.
Either way, the fact that you mentioned “pew pew ranger” leads me to believe you play ranger very suboptimally so it probably wouldn’t matter much to you.
Hi you might not have seen it, but I have a guide for warriors here:
If you struggle with conditions, I advise you consider the following options:
-Lifesteal food (example: omnomberry pie, omnomberry ghost, slice of candied dragon roll)
-Healing Signet (most HP/time out of all our other heals with the exception of Defiant Stance on hard-hitting bosses)
- Utilities like “Shake it off!”, Signet of Stamina, or if it’s really called for Berserker Stance.
Alternatively, try increasing the number of evades you have with something like a sword offhand using an energy sigil. Afterall things won’t be applying many conditions to you if they don’t hit you.
Hey miku,
Element’s guide has 06062 gs/sword +warhorn setup for phalanx strength. is this setup still good when running a ps build?
First, the reason I didn’t mention it in this guide is because PS is something you should only run depending on what the team comp is and what everyone is capable of bringing. In other words you should be wise with the decision of when it is and when it isn’t appropriate to use, and it is never worth bringing in a solo setting which is what this guide focuses mostly on.
Second of all there are two options you should ever consider for PS builds in my opinion.
First would be 05063 with axe/mace swap.
Second would be what Element suggested, 06062 with sword/warhorn swap.
Which one you choose to run is something you need to consider based off of the comp, your personal comfort, and what you’re doing.
If you choose the fast hands + axe/mace setup, it’s because of two primary reasons:
a) Your party needs more vuln application on bosses. If you have eles but they aren’t running at least 5 trait points in air and aren’t able to use glyph of storms in air regularly against a boss, chances are you might have low uptime. Engineers will always be able to cover it, so if you have an engineer in the party with you that knows what they’re doing then you probably don’t need to contribute more vuln aside from rending strikes.
b) You want/need to weapon swap. Generally speaking it’s a lot more comfortable to be able to swap when you want/need to and having 3 points into discipline will allow you to do so. Just because axe/mace is the most efficient swap for group DPS doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to have it at all times – if you struggle to survive against certain bosses then temporarily replacing mace offhand with a sword offhand for the block certainly would be a good idea. With the 05063 build you’re permitted to do this.
Now, to explain why Element has 06062 in his guide:
a) If your party doesn’t need more vuln, there’s no sense in swapping. Camping GS will result in the best might uptime for your party because of the forceful greatsword trait and having 6 points in the arms traitline pretty much guarantees that you won’t miss a crit.
b) The sword/warhorn swap is suggested because quite frankly, you don’t swap with this trait setup. This is a PS build assuming you will only use GS in combat. For the purpose of mobility, sword/warhorn is the best option you have so when you exit combat it only makes it more convenient for travel to not have to swap weapons. Of course it’s not necessary, but helpful nonetheless.
Hopefully this clears things up for you!
I’m confused by this. What are they selling exactly? I’m also not familiar with AP in this context.
I get that people are joining mid-dungeon parties and kicking the original members, but why?
For the kittens and giggles I guess.
Warrior does all that kitten and still goes good DPS in the process, unlike your blindthief who’s puffing smoke instead of attacking like some college fratboy stoner every four seconds.
Gee you’re really behind with the times aren’t you?
Wish I could give you some.
I have a full stack of shards that I have no use for :/
There is sadly nothing I can really advise other than to keep playing fotm, but I will say a few things I’ve noticed are that the wolves that mossman spawn and the trash mobs in jade maw tend to drop those vials for me on occasion even at higher levels. It could be purely coincidental but it’s happened enough times for me to notice it a lot.
I presume you are talking about Arah p2?
Where there are a lot of them all together (a lot of teams will stelth past).
Thankfully you could also spawn grubs and the inquest will target lock onto these enabling you to kill quickly.I somehow hope that all mobs with a big number of attacks wich currently require long stabilities will be looked at including : CM P1/P2 (Rifle boss).
AC: Gravelings will be fun in p1 (with mounds), P2-Gravelings again on the traps.
Anywhere else anyone can think of?
I would never waste a util on stability for any of these things
I am so confused at what you’re talking about.
Are you referring to the patrol mobs BEFORE lupi?
(edited by Purple Miku.7032)
He’s talking about other classes having boon stripping abilities.
Stripping defiance isn’t the role of the warrior.
That job is typically left for the thief/mesmer, since they are much more efficient at it.
I not only would really like this but I’d like variations of the colors with the same effects.
The only problem is the glow effect of the set is literally the only reason to get it so major emphasis on this only being obtainable as a reward for completing the collection! It should not be tradeable.
I go away for a few months and come back to this kitten:
1) Warrior is supposed to be average at everything. Deal with it.
2) Not everyone speedruns. In fact speedruns are so broken at this point there’s not much point in talking about balancing them.
3) Warrior self-buffed DPS is still good and their party buffs are still good. Even better in pugs where a Phalanx build provides pretty much all the might and a fair chunk of vuln.
1) They’re below average, so thanks for inavertently agreeing with us!
2) Why balance a class around anything but higher level gameplay?
3) No one’s questioning warrior’s buffing capabilities. We’re questioning why it has such absurdly low personal damage. The buffs themselves don’t need improvement, the base damage does. Be it through traits, weapon coefficients, or whatever.
How do I get that in slow motion?
Click on the gear symbol (Settings) and change the speed from “Normal” to either 0.25 or 0.5.
Youtube offers the ability to watch it in 25%, 50%, 150% and 200% speeds.
Thanks, I just get to choose resolution and autoplay from the gear symbol in youtube, but I found another way.
That is astonishing, he goes through 3 weapon sets in 3 seconds. I think he does 8 blasts without Arcane Wave, and a sigil of battle triggers as he goes into water. How on earth do people do that?
It takes practice to get consistent but it helps to keep watching.
Would any of you trade away banners for engineer’s personal DPS? I doubt it.
Only reason I wouldn’t is because banners are also an essential part of warrior’s personal DPS as well, so it would need more than a ~1.7k DPS increase to even it out of you took banner of discipline away :P
There’s already a decent number of dungeon paths where warrior’s banners aren’t even worth bringing mostly due to the ridiculous ferocity scaling.
Playing a warrior these days just isn’t the same. It feels so unrewarding to play compared to how it once was. The output is just too low.
I wouldn’t mind with them tweaking mechanics and making the gameplay less passive and whatnot.
Oh my god this back piece is disgusting. :x
Almost as terrible as that tempered spinal one… -cringe-
No problem!
Be sure to move slightly when casting both dragon’s tooth and comet, and be aware that certain terrain can cause the skills to bug and not work.
Focus just about always, dagger offhand only for prestacking.

There’s a profound difference between being top tier and bottom tier when it comes to DPS.
It’s annoying because of how it’s taking almost 2 years for so many to realize that warrior doesn’t have the best DPS in the game. The CoF P1 mentality is a plague.
Warriors still have top tier dps

Yeah when it comes to giving passive buffs to others warrior’s top notch.
Otherwise it’s meh. Just not the same as it once was. </3
Fractals are more fun in my opinion, the bosses generally are more challenging which teaches players skills such as max meleeing and dodging more than in dungeons. It is also fairly rewarding through rares/exotics/materials and the occasional raiders chest. Dungeons are certainly more profitable but a good fractal group takes about 20-30 minutes to complete a full 50.
I’m currently at around 420-450 pristine relics in my bank right now and I have literally never gotten a raiders ascended chest before in any aspect of the game, ever.
Dozens of useless healers/defenders/malicious ascended chests though!
3. Attacks elementals instead of shaman, while he has his shield up
There’s nothing wrong with this as long as you have shaman selected as a target.
If you have him selected as a target then each successive skill used will remove a stack off of his shield.
This is why I, for example, will aim my ice storms/meteor showers in the areas with the biggest concentration of elementals.
I will just assume the team you had was really bad either way and probably didn’t have shaman selected. Pugs blow.
How do I get that in slow motion?
Click on the gear symbol (Settings) and change the speed from “Normal” to either 0.25 or 0.5.
Youtube offers the ability to watch it in 25%, 50%, 150% and 200% speeds.
I was told by some experienced players that in high end fractals dps doesn’t matter as much as utility and support, and I know that warriors are mandatory for their might stacks, but beyond that one thing I haven’t heard anything else. But everyone seems to take a guardian too
At the very most 1 warrior should all any fractal team should consider taking if it’s an organised run trying to optimize team comp. Fights in fractals usually last long enough so that banners are worth it.
Besides banner of strength, banner of discipline, and phalanx strength, warrior is essentially worthless for any other purpose. This hasn’t changed much, however we’ve also had our personal DPS lowered from above average to below average within the past year and that’s presumably because for some reason they wanted to get people to stop playing the class as much for whatever reason.
Warriors bring no utility other than passive offensive support, while guardians bring loads of defensive utility.
It all depends on what you prefer. Neither classes are capable of dealing very good damage really. If high personal DPS is in your interests, look in the direction of elementalist/thief.
The main issue is that warrior is just so much worse than it used to be. The offensive support is just as valuable as it once was but the personal DPS is very, very underwhelming.
Hopefully this will clarify things for you.

They tried, again and again, this failing method, instead of just fighting the boss out in the big open room, which seems to be what was originally intended by the developer.

Yeah for leveling up there’s not really much of a point in using other offhands the vast majority of the time.
You won’t have enough swiftness uptime with just your signet elite and warhorn + signet of rage using the signet mastery trait is a lot better than just leaving the flat 25% movement speed increase from warrior’s sprint is.
Evidently we all have different definitions of what speedclearing is.
To me if you’re putting up an LFG ad for the group, it’s pugging and speedclearing is not the same as pugging.
Why are there people here referring to pug groups as “speed clear parties” …?
Mace offhand isn’t really worth it for open world trash because they all die fast anyways. Vuln stacking isn’t as important when you’re alone as it is when you’re in groups.
When leveling up, the most important thing you can do for yourself is maximize swiftness uptime and general mobility.
You need the points in air for more precision. That said often times it’s the only relevant trait to take.
Also I’m bit curious, would you guys really stop running the path if Anet fixed the bug?
I missed this part of your post last time.
I might do it on the rare occasion if they were to fix it but I can’t see myself caring to compete anymore provided it happens. I recall Goku telling me he’d stop running it if this rule is implemented, or he’d run it without caring about/following the rule. One or the other.

All you see here is bullcrap of a ranger berserker builds, that’s why rangers are hated, no1 knows how to build them.
Use my build, and come back to thank me.
Now you’ll at least have reason to be hated;)
What’s with the 6 points in wilderness survival and random soldier’s earrings…?
I suggest GS + axe/warhorn to start out with. You’ll do most damage autoattacking with axe.
When you get to the point where you can use master level traits then swap to GS + sword/warhorn and use GS whenever in combat.
As for traits you may as well go for signet mastery first (discipline VI) but once you’re able to use master level traits you’ll want forceful greatsword (arms X) as soon as possible, which is why I suggested you switch setups in the above paragraph.
Try to pick weapons that have power as their primary attribute and once you get to the point where they have two attributes, you’ll want power primary and precision secondary stats.
Put minor sigils of air and minor sigils of fire on your weapons if you really want to top it off but since you’ll frequently be able to upgrade gear it doesn’t matter that much.

Not only would this be better to post in the Fractals & Dungeons subforum, but nobody can help you if you don’t provide basic details like what region you play in because both NA and EU are separated.
Might is already getting a huge adjustment.
Are you talking about the huge adjustment that it got a month ago or something else?
Axe offhand have its niche uses (even in fractals -> Vulcan where you want to quickly break final boss shield).
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Channeled_skill
Channeled skills count for exactly 1 attack and will remove only 1 stack off of imbued shaman’s shield.
Otherwise hundred blades would also be a lot more useful than it currently is.
It’s not really a hyperbole. I honestly don’t know of a single person that would ever care about doing an Arah p2 solo record other than maybe Goku and Quin. A hyperbole is an exaggerated claim.
Solo records/runs in the past always included it and her teleporting around the room doesn’t really add anything to the encounter other than making it take much, much, much longer because the boss does nothing but the exact same attacks.
I understand what you want is to be consistent and not include something that’s obviously unintended but I’m just thinking realistically because barely anybody even does solo record runs… have already spoken with a handful of people about it and nobody that I’ve spoken to is interested in not preventing the teleporting.
You can do what you please really but don’t shoot the messenger lol

But weapon skills aren’t intended to be customizable?
I’m curious why you’re hiding all of your weapon skills and utilities but not that mistfire wolf elite.
If any of them were to be embarrassing, it’d probably be that one.
Also Might nerf was nowhere as bad as crit nerf as i read somewhere on the forums.
The reason the crit nerf was worse is because they coupled it with nerfs to things like stacking sigils, which made them pretty much unusable in PvE.
It wasn’t just the nerf to critting, it was also a loss of 250 power across the board in many cases.
Lmao thought this was gonna be a thread related to the “about face” feature ingame that rotates your camera a full 180 degrees.
There’s nothing that can come close to a staff elementalist’s initial burst provided they have the opportunity to prestack might.
Damage has been nerfed tremendously since April 2014 and this video is quite old.
You know how they nerfed might recently?
The ferocity nerf was pretty much around the same DPS loss in level 80 areas, give or take.
is GS bad now, purple
It’s still the best, but compared to what it was capable of dealing in the past it’s worse.
(edited by Purple Miku.7032)
Nowhere near close.
But overall it’s not even about each class’s DPS, but each class’s contribution to party DPS offensively (via buffs) and defensive (blinds, reflects, blocks so the party can continue to DPS)
That’s why ele (might stacking + huge personal DPS) and warrior (banners, some vuln, possibly might stacking) are indispensible, thief (huge personal DPS, blinds + stealth), and guardian (reflects, blocks, some blind) are highly sought after.
Warriors are extremely dispensible. Most of my runs actually don’t have warriors.
It’s really inefficient but if it floats your boat go for it.
