It would be nice to earn in-game titles like “Vote for Keil” or “Vote for Evon”
Earn the title fast like the first achievement then earn supporting banners and supporting flags for Tier 2 and 3. It would be awesome to run around with a flag like we do now with our Kites
Also, a small poll should be on the UI showing who people are voting for
After the event is over, they could sell banners and flags in the gem store for people to transform them in guild banners and guild flags like we also did with the Kites

The OP is right. In our Personal Story WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN CHARGE not Trahearne. I would have seen the story like this:
We go to LA and meet the heros. We become part of an order in which we become the best commander. Than we help the other orders and in the end they all elect the player as a commander for the assault on Orr. We as leaders would have had to make choices in where to send each army and take responsibilities for that.
We would have started with few NPCs following us and ending up with AN ARMY who followed us as leaders. We wont have to report Trahearne after every mission but other teams we sent in the field would report to us. (this could have made a lot of story splittings.)
The personal story as it is now it is good and long enough for a 60$ RPG but it feels really rushed for calling it GW1 sequel and it is trapped in its case because I see less changes that could be done to it.

GW2 is doomed to failure when games as Archeage and Black desert come online. This game has too much imbalances, bugs, and fundamental problems to be competitive to real mmos. So I’m not surprised it will have no expansions. GW2 is good for losing time, nothing more. Sad that other companies decided to follow GW2 model. I’m talking about Neverwinter and Elder Scrolls. These two, like GW2, are online not mmo games – some new genre

Archage and Black Desert? LOL, Still fanboys of kill 10/10 MMOs with loot steal and quest grief-ing? Or warrior type girls fighting monsters wearing high heals shoes?
No wonder GW2 is still a twilight zone for you.

Lol, no he is more a fanboy of the Smash 150 Pinatas and eat 250 Zhaitaffy or to give 15 cows foot or to give 20 plants water or to collect 30 samples of something and warrior type (almost naked) girls fighting monsters wearing pinks quaggan backpacks.

Really don’t act like if GW2 is so different on those aspects. The hearth and event type of quest usually make them even more superficial where some traditional quest could give a more detailed story and let you really get to know some of the NPC’s. I would welcome some traditional quest in an example.. of course if they are more of a story then the examples you gave. (To bring is back to the subject of the the thread)

You wanna make me believe you actually read those quest tests other then the quest tracker? LOL, Nice try tho.

They are rewarding long time supporters of their company. Without them there wont be any GW2. As Mujen.5287 said, you can still get them so they are not beyond your reach.
The rewards they gave you through the HoM were cosmetic. So are the achievement points unless you consider some gold or laurels a super advantage.

Do you know that when they said GW2 will reward player from GW1, all GW1 players wanted their character to be played in GW2?
A-Net made at least the names available due to technical reasons.

People also asked for their money to go to GW2 because if GW2 was an expansion to GW1 they would have got all their money with them.
A-net has decided to give them these achievement points to compensate it but after 1 Year which is enough time to have earn enough money in the game so this “bonus” won’t be so discriminating

You forgot the bi-weekly updates. People have things to do and a new zone will have a story that has driven you there. The new zone won’t be filled up with hearts quests like it would be if there was a full expansion. Remember, this game didn’t have hearts in the original script, they introduced them after because people were disoriented on what to do.

Bi-weekly updates don’t guarantee new zones will be implemented twice a month. And even if they are, people are still going to devour the zones like a plague of locusts in a field of crops and then complain that there’s nothing to do or updates are too slow.

And personally, I’d be very disappointed if the new zones (whenever they’re added) don’t have renown hearts, points of interest, vistas, and all the other trappings that the existing zones already have.

Of course they won’t add new zones twice a month. They probably will add one zone or part of a zone each 3-5 months but for going there it will be some Living Story every 2 weeks that will lead to the new zone.

About heart quests … well, I am pretty sure there won’t be any in the new high level zones but there we will still find vistas and PoIs.
The only possibility to add zones with heart quests in them is if they decide to add a new race with a new racial capital and some new starting low level zones.

This could be considered an expansion but it can be triggered by a living story plot in which we meet the new race and then they take us to their capital city. In the update after that, the new race will be unlocked and the respective starter low level zones.

They don’t need a paid expansion for this because the zones are low level and will only count for personal exploration not for the map completion for those who already have the star. Having a new race, people might need to choose between deleting a character or buying a new character slot.

A-net already knows how many accounts are alto-holic and they can foresee how the new character slots will sale. Besides, the cash shop as they do it now is very profitable: it is not a pay to win and the things sold in there are purely optional, they don’t increase your effectiveness in the game, only your looks
So why should they force a paid expansion onto people who are happy with the game as it is and possibly they won’t buy it when have it all free for all and supported by the cosmetics?

Just think about WoW. Do you see any new player buying the game and all expansions at once? I don’t think so. So, a new player buys GW2 from the shop in some years. What will have buy? One game of 60USD that instead of 17Gb download as we have now, he will have 28Gb. What do you think this buyer will feel when he will read: you need to buy the game plus the 2 expansions: 60USD + 40 USD + 40 USD.
I am sure hew will say “i’ll pass”

I hope they will ad new regions/ races through Living World rather then an expansion. One new zone/ part of a zone every 3 months is better then 20 zones all at once. People would rush them again and finish the content in1 week then complain again there is not enough content in the game.

How would this fix anything? Even if its 1 new zone every 3 month people would rush it… Complete the zone in 15 minutes and complain for 3 months before the new one appears

They really need to look up games like Price of Persia, Assassin Creed, Ratchet and Clank, Tomb Rider and learn from them. Only in the ’80s you were seeing your character jumping like a dummy in its feet, all the rest use some grabbing to avoid near the edge jumping fails

Those aren’t mmos, but it would be nice to see grabbing and climbing implemented.

This is what I wish / hope for. I think it can fit perfectly in the game. Even climbing on ladders. It will make the jumping “business” a lot more interesting.
As i said, I am not against them – I did most of the jumping puzzles, even the 40 crystals from this update – but something makes these jumpings look really “unprofessional”
I will post a picture to see why. Imagine how this would look with a Charr or a Norn

I guess no one is interested to see dragons flying in the sky other then the few ones happening in high level zones.
For a game which main focus is to fight dragons because they are a threat, we see very few of them and a new player who gets bored quickly won’t even get see one.

This idea shouldn’t be too hard to implement as we already see dragons flying in certain places and they will not alter the zone’s content in any way.
Probably, a few NPC chatter like " Oh, Look there are dragons in the sky again" “No worries they will go away shortly.”
or some events getting postponed because the NPCs are scared.

Dragons over Tyria

Posted by: Ronah.2869

Ronah.2869

I think it would be nice if we could see dragons flying in the sky all over Tyria, in every zone not only in Orr.

I imagine it like this:

They take a random number of dragons from 1 to 10 and they will randomize their spawn in every zone on a time basis: when dragons leave one zone they will appear in the next zone where they were headed to.
Lets say, 7 dragons will fly over one zone for 15 min than 5 leave in one direction, 2 in another. In those 2 zones there will be flying dragons for another 15 min.
From here, the dragons can fly all to a single zone or spread out again.
Anyway, there will always be 3-4 zones with dragons flying in the skye

We DON’T fight them, they are only in the sky, flying over in different numbers and different altitudes.

From time to time they will breath minions and poison on the ground but not as an event only as a spawn-able mobs fitting with the zone level.

Also, the dragons will make specific scary noises so every player, new or old will get a chill from it.

I think would make a real impact on how the players see the world and the threat the dragons actually are

(Note: I got this Idea after seeing the Holographic dragon over Lion’s Arch at the Dragon Bash Festival, but the dragons I am talking in my suggestion are smaller ones and fly in packs and they look like real dragons not a holographic image)

How would you create a Living Story...

in Living World

Posted by: Ronah.2869

Ronah.2869

As we have seen and heard, the Living story concept is here to stay in GW2 but from the forum perspective, this concept is more or less appreciated depending on player tastes and abilities. Let’s start to see how we would make a Living Story Content.
I will start:

1) The game client has successfully patched the new content and the player hits the PLAY button
2) The player selects one character to enter the game
3) The game starts with a non skip-able cutscene in which a random icon figure – Logan, Eir, Rithlock, Caithe and the asuran one (forgot the name) or any other NPC we met/will meet in the game – tells the player about the new things happening in the world concluding the monologue with: " I will update your journal with details"
This cutscene will be delivered only once after the Living story patch has been updated
4) The character gets in the game and the HERO panel will get a " ! " in the UI icon similar to the TP when having something new in it.
5) The HERO panel will upgrade with a new tab called “Living World” and will be account bound so every character will have it in their Hero panel regardless of what step in the personal story they are. Why? Because it is the World’s Story not personal story
6) There will be no UI notice as we have now but Hero panel’s Living World tab will keep track of all the text information the player gets a.k.a as used in the current mail system and it will update with a " ! " every time there is something new
7) The achievements tab will get a " ! " the first time a living story is updated with new achievements
8) once a Living Story content is ended, the Hero panel tab will still keep track of the past stories. All we have now is a history of achievements and not a history of the storyline unless you are still keeping the mails in your post box

This is how I would introduce a Living Story content without cluttering the UI for weeks and annoying those uninterested.

Living stories should be remembered as stories too not only achievements

Evolutionarily speaking, many players, myself included, have expressed their concern that jump puzzles are not evolving the MMORPG genre but are grafting in a kind of gameplay that harms both the MMO and RPG aspects of the game. That’s not evolving role-playing or community-building content, it’s replacing both of them with single-player twitch-reflex movement games that don’t appeal to me or many other players. I don’t personally have a problem with people who love jump puzzles. What I and many other players are frustrated by is that this niche style of content is not only potentially crowding out content that is both MMO and RPG, it is increasingly being forced on everyone (having it linked to rewards/achievements.) This does not even address the issue of whether technically the engine can properly support this style gameplay for all players, latencies, and machines.

This is good explanation. No one would care if the jumping puzzles would be an auxiliary content with fluffy rewards. They could add hundreds of JPs in the game, this would be good to enrich the environment, but don’t force them on players adding achievement rewards to them, especially now when the achievement points matter.

I understand they can’t do something very related to the end of the personal story, but they could link it to the order you have joined and every month add something permanent which will be addressed to all characters not only those who finished the whole storyline. Many people play the story up till the point they join an order.
Expand those stories with the order in mind and bring them once a month.

Ronah.2869

There will be TOO MUCH content in the game in the future if it’s not taken away.
Anoteher one I just can’t get my head around. How is having a lot of content to play a bad thing? I’d call that good value for money. The only reason I ever thought there might be too MUCH content in WoW was because you were forced to grind through it when creating a new character to catch up. WoW negated this a bit by nerfing how much NEEDED to be done as time went by but GW2 doesn’t even need to do this since it’s nearly 100% grind free at endgame. Having more freedom to choose how I progress through the game is a great thing.

Five or so years ago, when I started to Play Jade Dynasty, there were only 100 levels. Now There is 300 levels. How willing to play thet game is a new player that discovers that game now?
yes, too much content scary away the players.
When a new player comes into GW2 and opens the map he will see the total amount of “quests” he has: Hearts, PoIs, Vistas, Skill Points. If he quites the game for a while for various RL reasons and comes back and sees the same amount he will feel happy. He doesnt need to catch up with anyone, but he would see those numbers increased then he will feel disappointed.
Imagine if he would quit again and come back and see even a larger number of “quests” he will quit it for good.
So, Temporary content is added content for the players who are in the game everyday but doesn’t scare away the players who come back after a while or are new players.

Lets remember GW1 has Nicholas the Traveler which is collecting different item every week for giving you 5 gifts. Players are farming these items in various locations each week and then use or sell the gifts.
The gifts give you consumables which are good for getting titles. Players who sell them for gold, they are later using the gold for getting other titles

Does this sound familiar?

Yes, GW2 has transformed the Nicholas from GW1 into the Living Story:
- it happens (almost) on a weekly basis
- it happens in various / different zones
- it is mainly a farming activity: 40 Sky Crystals, 50 Ascalonian Aetherblades, 300 Fireworks, 16 Samples on Southsun Cove, etc
- it helps players get different achievements or titles

So, A-Net has just improved the concept of Nicholas the Traveler from GW1 in a better way because the Living Story…
- has more depth regarding story and lore,
- adds more diversity and complexity to a basic farming/grinding activity
- helps introducing new zones / minigames / etc into the game in a more natural way then a simple expansion patch

What is this? 1987?

No, it’s 2013. A time when gamers are entitled to have everything handed to them and want little to no real challenge (unless there’s a fully detailed guidethrough holding their hand every step of the way) because their character may die and god forbid they’d have to start something over again.

In 1987 the job’s work wasn’t as stressful as it is today. People had more ability to endure challenges in a video game after a working day. Nowadays, the work is more stressful and more longer hours then back then so people are not so willing to endure more stress playing a game.
Back then the games were meant to give people’s ordinary lives a bit of a challenge, Nowadays, the real life is a challenge and games are supposed to be relaxing not adding up more challenges.
If you don’t believe what I am saying, try a simple example: the mobile phone. It was not invented in 1987 but now it rings in your pocket every hour no matter where you are and if you connect this to a job… there you go. Here is your answer

Have you guys looked at the full zoomed out map of Tyria? My guess is: until we will have all of it filled with explorable zones, we wont see any new continent/expansion.
The living story opens little by little the whole map. It is very possible that the other teams Colin’s talking about are assigned to develop different zones which will be added to the game though the living story.

A casual player who comes in the game from time to time notices thet there are different events happening in the world (top right of interface or mails)
He/she may try to do them or just ignore them if he is not interested, but still the world feels different every time he loggs in

For a professional achievement hunter with a real life too, the game world feels too full of achievements which are timebased sort of, and this brings frustration to him/her
On the other hand, for a professional achievement hunter with less real life activities, this living story feels like a 5h content.

All we have to see now is how are the percentage split between GW2 player base.
If casuals are 40% and the hard-core are 60% then the living story is a semi-flawed concept, but if we reverse the percentage then it becomes semi-successful.
If we make this balance as 20% / 80%, then the living story can turn from totally flawed to totally successful, depending which of the categories are the most.

These statistics are all in A-Nets hands so they know what is best for their game.

Okay sweet guys- I figured it out. I didn’t realize when I purchased the armour that it was for light armour characters only. I have a character- he’s a ranger- that can’t use the light armour, and that’s where my issue lies. I’m still very much a rookie in this guild wars community.

Now I only have to figure out what to do with this expensive, and useless, skin.

You could make a new character who wares light armor, a different race then Sylvari and you will experiment a different storyline up to a point. You might even like this new one better then the ranger

How many people still play alone?

As the 1st anniversary of GW2 is coming, I would suggest that each character who turns 1 year will unlock an emote “/year1” which will summon a table with a cake on it having the GW2 logo on top. also, fireworks will shoot out from the cake every 3 seconds
For the years to come, this can be expanded to /year2, /year3, etc and will open up 2.3 etc tables but only the cake in the 1st table will get a new level.
So the cake will gain one level each year plus a new table with “goodies” each year
The goodies=bonuses for everyone who touches it like the guild banners, etc

Go watch Game of Thrones and ask yourself why that show is watched by over 5 million people.

Because a lot of episodes are basically softcore porn?

Oh, that wasn’t your point.

Actually that could be a good suggestion
