I gonna "manipulate" a market! ROUND 2

Hm, so what we can take from this is that if there is a limited supply of something, yes, it can be manipulated as long as you have the cash to do so from the start.

Now, while this recipe is basically limited, trying to apply this to something that can still be generated today, but perhaps at a greatly reduced rate, could also be possible, couldn’kitten For easy numbers sake, say there are 1000 of one item on the tp, with one added to the game a day. Thus, if someone(s) control those thousand, then that one won’t affect them much, thus allowing manipulation to continue.

Thats an interesting question. As mentioned before, i trade alot in recipes and also do it for the newer ones that got introduced with recent updates in season 2.
In particular the feast/pot recipes for the nopale/cactus food from DT and the bountiful/furious nourishments from SW.
Those are still farmable from chests but as most of the playerbase moved from DR to Halloween, then to SW and now to Wintersday, daily supply diminished quite alot, even though SW recipes still drop more frequently than the ones from Dry Top and their prices might fall again, coming next week as people revisit SW.
However, prices on all those recipes have risen due to several buy outs but it gets harder to manipulate those prices.
But on the flip side, it makes revisiting DT more attractive now because average loot obtained there rose in value, so I dont think its a bad thing and it all will balance out again.

Actually, technically right now another market that could be controlled (if funds available) would be the recent bltc skins that were removed from the vendor. Course there is the thing of people holding in their banks, but I wonder if john watches those markets more closely for anything.

All I’m going to say is, this would’ve been a better back story and more interesting than Caithe’s

It’s interesting you say that. There has been a lot of speculation about Rytlock’s sword, the Foefire curse and how all those pieces fit together. I don’t recall much interest in Caithe and Faolain’s past or what drove Faolain to Nightmare and Caithe to reject it. It’s always been there in the game (in the vision of Orr part of the Personal Story all of DE have some issue from their past they deal with and it’s always each other, except for Caithe who is turning back to Faolain) but I rarely see anyone take an interest in it and Caithe’s relationship with Faolain was still one of the least discussed topics from the last release (people didn’t like Faolain, some were disappointed she seems almost identical then to her personality in TA, few people even comment on Caithe specifically).

I suppose Caithe’s history is being told now simply because it links her to Glint or the forgotten or w/e current plot is not being told this season.
.

Eh, I think the back story was basically slipped in because of scarlet mentioning caithe’s dark past during the dungeon run. There was speculation on it at the time, but after what, a year? Mostly everyone stopped caring. Then it was placed here like “oh ho! Thought we forgot bout this?” When I at least thought “no, not interested about it anymore. You brought up the topic on the sword again, tell us that”

Caithe BG basically had its chance, but fell through the cracks. And to suddenly spring it on us….

Where do I find those events?

I have macula degeneration…glasses don’t help:)

Events happen randomly. Usually a little window will pop up at the side of your screen. F you are still in the human starting area, head to the first heart at the farm with the worms and cows, usually events happen there, along with some at the apple orchard and the dam and the water treatment area.

Hi,
I have a problem with my eyes …I can’t see very sharp.
It makes it more difficult to get around in the game.

Is it possible to make the small map bigger?
Is there a way to customize my playing screen?

I’ve done the quests south of the Shaemoor Garrrison but I can’t find any now.
I’m at Divinity’s Reach.
How can I find more quests or tasks?

I’m a human Warrior.

Halor

Customize playing screen, you could change your resolution to a size that makes it bigger.
Yes, if you drag the upper left corner of the minimal, you can scale it larger
There aren’t really “quests” in the game, but I assume you mean hearts. There are only do many on a map. You can go to another starting area to do those hearts, but what you should really be looking for are events. They will be your main XP income.

OK! I think I found the thread where things got messed up. It was an old cdi thread from 2013 about horizontal progression. I believe its this because not only is the capturing skill suggested, but also a ‘wardrobe’ for skins and account bound dyes.

So a hit and miss cdi (please don’t hate me Chris).

I made an ele about a week ago, and use tomes to power level it, the new trait system is horrible, I don’t know how they ever thought this was a NPE as its a terrible experience, alas sadly its been so long since it came into place, I cannot see Anet ever changing it,

ALL of the minor traits should be able to be unlocked in 1-15 zones, be it world events, map completion etc, its crazy that some low level traits require you to complete higher level zones/world events.

The only thing that works with the NPE is the rewards from personal story.

Th trait change came in six months before the NPE.

I’m starting to believe no one rolled alts between that patch and the npe patch

This is what will happen:

1. Usual suspects will speculate on things that they want to see in this game (expansions, mounts, etc),
2. Other people will note the speculation and throw even more speculation into the mix,
3. At some point, the original speculation will turn into statements of fact by forum members and even promises despite no official word on anything,
4. Anet may or may not make an announcement at PAX,
5. Regardless, the people who made their wild speculations will berate Anet for failing to keep their promises (which were never made) or announcing that expansion which was never on the table and those forum members with overactive imaginations and an inability to discern the difference between speculation and rumour (that they themselves invented) and quantifiable information will flood the forums calling out Anet as liars, indulge in conspiracy theories and claim the game is “dying”.
6. Anybody who calls the fantasists out will be labelled “White Knights” – the new buzzphrase around these parts.
7. Rinse and repeat for next gaming event or “announcement”.

Holy crap…..so. Much. Truth. Why didn’t I read this earlier?

Now tell me next weeks lotto numbers.

Other tips:

Buy the crude salvage kits from the karma vendors, will save you coin.

Salvage everything leveling for the raw mars, when you get to tier 3-4 mats, good money there, or save for max crafting.

If its a white item that says salvagable, salvage! Don’t make my first mistake and sell XD.

Don’t just run by events, participate. Events are what drive leveling, not just hearts.

Explore and discover

Gather all the things! (Ie, get an appropriate level Axe/pick/sickle like copper, iron, etc and gather whenever you see on your minimap).

If you get stuck at a level, try crafting. Free XP.

If stuck or lost, ask mapchat. Good chance you’ll get someone helpful

What i believe what is trying to be said is, the monthly was removed, along with the AP, so people wouldn’t hit the cap so fast. The cap is the same, but its slower to hit it. They merged them, but didn’t increase the cap.

None of that, “here’s a patch, skins are now gone. Forgot to tell you all!”

To be fair, there was a notice or two posted before they did it.

If we are talking about the BLTC, i know, they gave like a month in advance (i think).

If we are talking bout like tribal armor, there wasn’t a post made by a dev, but supposedly it was mentioned somewhere in their livestream, though I can’t find it even going back and looking through. That is the main thing that annoyed many of us.

Example: “Hey guys, at the end of season 2 these skins won’t be available anymore (be it BLTC or LS skins), so you have that much time to collect before gone forever!”

Halfway through: “Remember, these skins are gone at the end of LS 2!”

Month before end: “Skins disappearing at the end of LS 2!”

None of that, “here’s a patch, skins are now gone. Forgot to tell you all!”

Serophous.9085

Hey, to anyone thinking I was only showing things in a negative light, no. I did not introduce him to GW2. I had no influence on what he first perceived. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, and I am not a blind fan. Whatever criticism I established is because I love this game, and do not want to see it become ‘grindy’, nor do I want it to be seen as such by newcomers. My friend saw GW2 as a grindfest with no endgame – that shouldn’t be his first impression.

They did butcher the story, (It’s missing chapters and out of order, for cryin’ out loud), people do dislike the grindy traits, EOTM went from amazing new WvW map with lots of potential, to PvE land karma farm.

I do not disagree: brand new players who never saw an MMO before have no idea what to do. The NPE does an important job of introducing that. But it’s incomplete. It neglects people who know what an MMO is. I don’t know what the statistic of ‘gamer to newbies’ is in GW2. Maybe it’s such a small minority it doesn’t matter. But I don’t think anyone else here but Anet would have an idea.

But NPE shouldn’t be reminiscent of grinding, in a game that is not meant to be grindy. It doesn’t explain the core elements that the vets already know about this game. From gamers that came from elsewhere, NPE is grindy. They see hearts as quests. EOTM is powerleveling. The story and lore are pushed aside and clumped together in haphazard chunks. Only fun stuff is at 80.

World events and living story =/= end game raids, even if both follow the same basic idea of a community of people working together over TS to accomplish a common goal with unique understanding of combat mechanics.

But…here’s the problem. Your opinion influenced his thoughts on the personal story and how its done. If you, his friend, cast a negative light on it, then chances are, he will too, despite not having done it yet. I mean, you’re his friend, he’s going to most likely trust your opinion on it.

And the other problem is, as others I personally know have, is they keep playing it thinking its like WoW, and its not. Its a habit that really takes a lot to break out of, because its so engraved in many other mmos. Its basically what the human mind does when they don’t understand something new, they try to relate it to something else they are familiar with.

As for endgame….did gw1 even have “endgame” other than gathering skins (for people who didn’t pvp)? I mean, it was basically find skills, find armor you like, play story. It just sounds like your friend is looking for raids with a gear treadmill as “end game” (in all honestly, if you think about it, WoW’s end game basically keeps moving the goal posts back every few months. What was end game at one point, is no longer end game, and do we really want something like that in gw2?).

Can we at least wait and see before airing negative, and sarcastic, comments?

…. no?

Sorry, but so long as their policy of not talking about the future of the game is still in place, they CAN’T say anything big. Pretending they’re going to is just a farce, and everyone knows it.

It doesn’t matter if they’re secretly cracking genetics problems and planning to clone charr buddies for all their players, they can’t talk about it due to their policy. All they can give is, at best, vague hints of anything more than a week or two out. We can either laugh about it, or get upset about it. Personally, I’d rather laugh.

kinda this….sadly….I really hate their policy. I can see the answers to the panel now…

Question: “What will be beyond the living story?”
Anet: “The players will really like it and be surprised!”
Question: “Will there be a new class?”
Anet: “We are really excited for what we have in store for our players!”
Question: “Will Cantha make a come back? Or more zones?”
Anet: “We can’t wait to play along side you with what we have in store!”

Precursor Crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

Any new updates/statements from Anet regarding other ways of optaining a precursor, e.g. precursor crafting ?

I’ll go with, “it’s still on the table.” And the old chestnut of “When it’s ready.”

The last state of the game mentioned it, and yes, it was pushed back. I think the reason was, the idea they had wasn’t panning out well, so they had to start from square one again. Then of course, other stuff became more important, so it was pushed back again and again…

so its not that it ISN’T being developed, its just not a priority

Yep, looking forward to what they do with Season 3. S2 was better than S1, so far the trend is upwards. They’re constantly learning what people like and what they don’t, so they ought to be able to do even better next time.

Yet by Season 4, at this pace would we have only had an expansions amount of content. And that would have been within over 3, close to 4 years lol.

I’ll agree with the pace. As far as we know, there is an EP 8 for the last armor skins then…? I assume a 9, but if not….come back from holiday break, release one episode, ls break again??

Thast all I can assume. Most assume 8 is the end but if thats true, it means we get another break aftewards, unless episode 8 is a huge amount of content. That would just be ridiculous lol.

Its like “yay 8! What’s the big secret?! Where do we go to from here?!” And find out we have to wait like four months or something….

How will GW2 last long enough?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I kinda get what the op is saying story wise. Yes, getting to and killing a dragon is taking a long time. I mean I guess the devs are planning for the game to last 10+ years like other MMOs? I mean, it could, maybe, but that doesn’t mean stretch out the main attrsction to paper thin. There are other baddies that can appear or who haven’t been fully dealt with from gw1. Not to mention some factions (example flame legion) who still need dealt with in gw2.

The other thing missing in ls 2 was there is no side story going on to make it feel note real. One of the best things going on in ls1 was the story of (insert name here)-tron. He wasn’t part of the main story, he had actual character progression, and ended up fighting with us at the end. I don’t even know if he’s been in the Ls 2 at all yet.

Not to mention that other than the LSes being more about sylvari so far, its been giving more time to develops destiny’s edge. We’re getting pictures and teases of rytlock from twitter, caithe part of the story, a section of eir with her son that we only see the beginning to, Logan at least one bit with a watch knight, and chances are zoija will be next somehow.

That chance for destiny’s edge should been during the story parts of dungeons, with only fractions in the LS. Heck, there should’ve been some unofficial passing of the torch to us as a leader and assembling the new group. But here we are, still learning about the previous group and members…

Yes, I do want a Season 3.

Why?! There is nothing to do in the game besides farming skins!

This game is just horrible now! Why? Because there is not much of a game left here! And LS is not helping.

No it isn’t. Why bother to even post this garbage? Go back to wow.

It’s really sad that so many gw2 white knights explain to themselves this way why people criticize the game…

No! I don’t play WoW! I played gw1 hundreds of hours! And I hate this game! And I hate that it was so promising(had a lot of fun with the original release) and now it became that boring and pointless skin grind. There is no gameplay, challenge, reward or fun in here anymore. Just farming… For a new dress for your doll. No thanks!

Wasn’t gw1 a skin grind as well? I still need to finish up all those reputation grinds :’(

The humans would be wiped out, plain and simple.

1. They won the first time because of their Gods. The charr also weren’t AS organized as they are now.
2. The charr are already in a so far never ending war with ghosts whose numbers never dwindle, plus the flame legion, plus dragon minions. Highly militaristic, they are trained almost from birth to fight. Humans fight what again? Bandits? Circus people? Centaurs? Numbers than can actual decrease (thinking in actual terms, not gameplay).
3. Far more tech advance. Who’s supplying tanks and sub’s to the pact? Charr. Who’s building those airships? Charr and asura. Who has basically an RnD department? Charr (Iron legion).
4. Our spies are better. Remember, an ash warband snuck into the kings castle before the Foefire. They were that good back then, and training hasn’t slacked off.
5. Charr can pull your one hero, Logan, away from battle simply by letting it “slip” we plan to assassinate her, lowering moral. Humans are short on heroes (I don’t count players for either side), and don’t have as many leaders ready as the charr.
6. What you see now is only iron, you would then have to go for blood, ash, and flame lands. And humans don’t have the numbers to hold all that land.

Finally

7. We haz cheezey meat

3)as those premades keep winning, their MMR should continue to increase, thus they will face other people with similar MMR. That and before the holidays, the Dev was very active on the forums, listening and making adjustments. I would still give it time before passing judgment, its barely a month old.

4) please, please, please stop. The trait change DID NOT, I repeat DID NOT happen during the NPE change. Those were two seperate patches. People wanted the capture skill from gw1 back, somehow the devs misheard or overdid it with the traits, giving us what we have today. People wanted NEW traits to capture, while keeping a default set, and not reducing it to just a few points.

How about some tips. I’m shocked that it’s gotten to 3 pages and no one has actually tried to help. So here is some actual help.

If you’re not good a JP you won’t suddenly become good. But you can become good at the choir. The first important key to the choir is to reorient your camera to look straight down. If you’re looking over your shoulder it is very difficult to figure out when the tone needs to be played. But if you’re looking straight down it’s obvious. Play the tone when the light passes the line. Depending on your lag you might have to do it sooner, but once you know the sweet spot you’ll be good.

The next thing to learn is left hand on 1,2,3,4, right hand on 5,6,7,8. Separate them half and half and it’s more likely you’ll get through.

Lastly, go for upper registry. It’s almost entirely 1,2,3,4. There are a few songs with a small amount of left hand use, and one song with a lot. But for the most part it’s easy. Also, go for lower registry, it is probably the easiest one of the lot since it’s primarily the beat. Middle registry is the most complicated.

I’m glad that someone wants to help instead of insulting, but I did read the instructions and have looked for tips. Timing seems to be the biggest issue since sometimes I will accidentally press a key way before the dot hits the blue and not take damage while other times I have to wait for the dot to hit the blue. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the timing.

But thank you.

Also, I know your little ‘dig’ here is at me for being “insulting”. There have been many posts in threads before about helping before they got merged into that one thread. There were even posts in threads you were responding to with helpful advice.

So, either you decided to ignore said advice and continued to complain and took an opportunity to jab at me, or you are living in a bubble.

This is a festival – it should be fun, not a chore. And making a game easier has nothing to do with making RL easier.

Its a made up festival that is still IN. A. GAME. How much easier can a game get where litterally, LITTERALLY, you can walk up to a boss and press nothing but the 1 key, and get a reward.

That’s great that you can do this but I don’t know anyone personally who can.

How you can get four out of six achievements simply by talking to someone or clicking somewhere. You’re going to tell me, that you feel like you achieved something, and had fun doing it, by going up to hoho tron and giving him a copper. That is your idea of an achievement and idea of fun? Clicking around on piles of snow is fun and worthy of achievement? Opening gifts is an achievement?

But two other achievements that require you to put in effort, to actually try and put some effort into playing, and all of a sudden ALL of the achievements are undoable.

I’m starting to think that the people who can’t do these two achievements are the type of people targeted by some of the NPE features. They need a compass to hold their hand, percentages are scary, and bundles too confusing.

I agree that the Wintersday Daily achievements you are talking about are too easy. And it would be better if they would rotate among some different choices. But why do you have to insult people who can’t do the Bell Choir or Jumping Puzzles? Clicking with exact timing to something on the screen (for both) is often impossible due to lag. And some people have not played a lot of the type of video games that require a lot of jumping, etc. MMOs to date don’t include this type of thing. I don’t mind a challenge, I don’t like these challenges and unfortunately I don’t have a choice as to what kind of challenge I do because Anet has decided that less choice and directed play is the kind of MMO they want.

You don’t have to know personally. Go to a world boss and look around, you can easily spot some range standing back and autoing.

And I think I found the problem with the jump puzzle, you don’t need to click anything till the end.

And MMOs to date don’t have jumping? Last time I check, wildstar had jumping and areas requiring jumping, ESO as well, and archeage to name a few.

So, if another website gave another mmo an award, the complainers here would complain as well, unless it was their holy grail. Are people this hurt by someone else’s opinion?

Some MMOs do some things right while messing up something else. But in forums, people ignore the bad and only point out the good, then compare it to gw2.

“WoD got Garrisons!” Yeah, and building is time gated, they become a chore and a checklist thing to do. Not to mention that much of the end game stuff and content is time gated, because if it wasn’t, people would’ve been done in less than a month.

“Archeage has so many class combos!” Great! Now enjoy being bottlenecked at some quests that a massive zerg are standing around to kill to complete, and stuff dies in a second, and it costs labor to open a bag that drops from a mob. Labor, which is needed for craft and harvest materials, is needed to open a bag. And you only get labor while logged in and playing.

Good critism is welcomed. But lately its just complaints complaints complaints. If the game continually is going in a direction you think is wrong, and what you say isn’t doing anything, then why are you still bothering?

That’s actually quite easy to answer. Let’s say player Bob only has 45 minutes or so to play each day. Before the patch he could go anywhere in the world, have nodes to gather, mobs/players to put conditions on, mobs’/players’ attacks to dodge, events to complete etc. So Bob could do whatever he liked, Bob could have an enjoyable 45 minute gaming session.

Post patch, Bob has to use most of that time going to specific places if he’d like to complete the daily. After racing around metrica province hoping to score a hit on some mobs before the other 20 people kill the low level mobs, searching for gathering nodes in another zone.. and oh.. 2 fractal dailies!? Okay.. gotta find something else to fill in that last daily completion. Well, there’s the majority of Bob’s gaming session done and poor Bob didn’t get to do what he’d normally do (no dungeons or a few world bosses for example) and didn’t have that satisfying of a time in GW2 today.

Hypothetical but completely realistic situation for those gamers with less time to log in. (This isn’t my situation, but I’m able to have empathy for those who are in such a situation.)

You underestimate Bob.

Post patch, Bob happily collects some rewards just from logging in. He looks at the dailies and thinks, "Do I really care about the 10 AP today? I have an extremely limited play time

So before Bob could play as he wanted AND get 10 AP where now Bob has to choose whether he plays as he wants OR gets 10 AP. I suppose you don’t see a problem with this.

Does Bob honestly care about the AP? If Bob is no longer having fun doing the same thing because there is no AP now, he wasn’t playing for fun in the first place.

You’re having difficulty with two small parts of the game, so you request that the requirements be dropped so you can get rewarded?

Should we not include reading requirements for a high school diploma so that those who have trouble reading still graduate? Maybe math is just too hard for Johnny and Susie, so we’ll just not make that necessary for anyone to get by. Scratch that, it’s bad example; schools in the US already do that. Um….

(Just trying to lighten the mood a bit.)

There is plenty in this game that you’re not going to do because it’s just not your strength. I’m atrocious at PvP – there’s just too much happening too quickly for me to process and keep up. I also detest the number crunching that plays into it – needing the right builds and gear to blah blah blah. I don’t ask ANet to diminish the PvP/WvW requirements so I, too, can get a chest every day.

Games need to reward those willing to fail, ad nauseum, and not just those who show up. There is already plenty in this game, and others, that reward a player for just showing up. You now get a reward just for logging in! Why add to the list of “I showed up, I’m here,” rewards?

This is a festival – it should be fun, not a chore. And making a game easier has nothing to do with making RL easier.
