while it usually will produce a gift box, may produce one of those valuable tonics, instead!

I wonder which part of this 15 page thread about RNG and this 13 page thread about Halloween mini, or the multiple threads about Black Lion Chests, Mystic Forge and Tequatl weapons made the designers think that players love RNG.

Because even if they made it a guaranteed item if you put in [x] number of items for, players would complain that it’s too grindy.

Make it an item easily attainable, and people complain it’s not special when everyone has it.

What’s your suggestion that pleases everyone? Because I (and I’m sure Arena.net) would love to hear it.

Isn’t pretty much everything they done with the game since its release against the Manifesto?

No, a lot of people just don’t understand their manifesto, which is small clips from a much larger source – development interviews. People like to point out the no grind part, yet what you think that meant isn’t what they meant. They were referring to how other MMOs force you into that grind whereas GW2 strips a lot of that away and makes it optional. Ascended gear was really the one thing that went against what they talked about, but it is such a minor increase that it doesn’t matter.

In this case, when they said that players shouldn’t not want to see other players, that was referring to old tagging system where another player would simply get in your way. ArenaNet does however keep true to this saying, but only when it involves normal play. When normal players clash with people doing something abnormal, such as failing events, ArenaNet will intervene. Personally, I can solo some group events faster than some zergs or succeed where they would cause it to fail, so I’d rather not see them, but that’s not normal play for everyone.

As for changing the jumping puzzle because of other people, it is a possibility. They did after all change the Clock Tower after people complained about large characters. I assumed the presents were simply on a timer and popped somewhat randomly however. I’ve never had any issues with them.

They do have a time limit before they start popping but once a person lands on them they start to pop shortly after. If you’ll notice, because people are jumping on the last white/red presents rather than waiting for the blue presents, the blue presents don’t even spawn, the white ones start to pop. If you wait the blue ones spawn, and then they will start to pop after people jump on them.

Really what happened is that at first, everyone waited for the blue presents. People found out that the presents begin to go once the FIRST person lands on one, so they started making the longer jump to get ahead and ensure their safety at the expense of everyone else trying to make it at the same time. Because presents are blowing up in their face still since everyone is now jumping to the red/white present, now people trying to get ahead of the curve are jumping BEFORE THE RED/WHITE PRESENT SPAWNS, so that it spawns just as they land on it, to put everyone else behind them and ensure that they have the best chance at making it, at the expense of everyone else behind them.

It isn’t competitive play, but the design of that section makes it competitive, even though there’s no real competition going on, there’s no extra reward for “winning” the “race” between players, you see other players as not allies or friends that can help you out, but as “kittens” that can screw up your attempt for you. You see other players as objects you’d just love to reach through the computer screen and strangle.

Which I feel is bad for GW2’s philosophy.

I don’t know exactly how to fix it, it’s just that section of the JP belongs in another game, or in PVP, not PVE GW2.

but at the same time, stopping those people from jumping early would be going against “play how you want”. You would then be stiffling those people

People want homes, and to show them off in the world
People want loot and items that are all important in some way
People want to explore as far as they want and find challenges on their own.

People who argue that we wouldn’t be “satisfied” because we’ll burn through content faster than they can develop clearly never heard of the term “replayable” or are just lemmings/rubes to the Nth degree.

The problem is nowadays, people assume “replayable” = grind.
Player: " if I’m expected to replay it, I better be rewarded."
Anet: “OK, you get these tokens to turn for loot / you get an RNG chance to get shiney rare loot”
Player: “omg you promised us no grind!”

And if they made it you only had to run it 5 times for 5 different pieces, it would suddenly be “omg so short more content anet!”

Rytlock Found [Spoiler]

in Lore

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

Theory on rytlock:
First off, he was a unique character to begin with, as first he had a sacred human weapon that he refuses to say how he got, and second, even though classified as a warrior, he weilds a pistol. This could stem from the chart racial of course, as I don’t recall any time he uses the pistol, but always fights with just the sword (no offhand).

Second, he is the blood legion tribune. Blood legion are the front lines and more “meatheaded” and bloodthirsty. Note, not all may be like this, but it sure looks the majority. Rytlock is more calm and calculating when he needs to be, he even researches stuff outside of fighting.

Lets go back to ls1 when we first meet brahm. Rytlock doesn’t believe what he says, and is “too busy”. Looking back, this could suggest he was researching a way to get rid of the ghosts already.

To the LS2 part, we learn he’s been studying magic and perhaps “rituals” to get rid of the ghosts using the sword. Of course, this doesn’t go exactly as planned, and he has to dive into the mists to retrieve it.

Now we have to go by the pictures to figure out what’s happening with rytlock
The one pic we see him with fiery eyes. Could he be possessed? Unsure. He could also, once again, going through some ritual or spell to protect himself. We don’t know what books he was looking in to when figuring out the ghosts.

Next we see him with a blindfold on, and wearing a different armor. There is also the quote “my journey has just begun”. In other words, after the initial trial, he has yet to prove himself. So he was given another quest.

The next pic has rytlock over looking a grove of what looks like some plant crabs with pinkish red bulbs on their backs. Then the quote " they belong to the dragon now". Its the quote you have to study and look back. Again, he dove into the mists, went through some trial, and was given a new mission. So, who are “they”? Well, my first thought are the ghosts, that since mord was able to attack scarlet through omads machine (and maybe the machine actually sent her to the mists, and not the eternal alchemy). That and with the gods gone, there really isn’t anyone guarding or stopping intrusions. This part I want to believe, but I don’t know enough about the dragons (technically no one does) to know if they possess this kind of power.

The second theory is rytlock was sent out of the mists some how, and went to the second pale tree (discovered that there may be a second one by doing the sylvari story line). This one probably wasn’t able to defend against the dragons attacks, and once the tree fell, her children were corrupted and twisted.

I want to believe this one the most as when faolin said she heard " power over all sylvari" I believe that Wynne and the tree were talking of mord, and they were making a contingency plan in case it awoke. Hence why Wynne was sent out, and hence why I believe (just a belief) that the person who gave glints egg to the master WAS the pale tree with the plans told to him what to do when mord awakens. It would explain why mord wants the egg so badly.

Back to rytlock, we find he is too late, and these sylvari have been overtaken. Note though, the sword isn’t by his side still.

The final pic Shows an up close pic, and we fully see the new armor along with “be ready for anything”. In theory, rytlock probably reported back to whoever sent him out, and they are ready to move. Also, that mord now has a greater army under his influence and is ready to move soon. He learned by attacking the pale tree and in the silverwastes he was going to need a bigger army.

As for rytlock, he is now some varient of the old " ritualist" profession. Not an exact copy, but close. Yes, it will deal with spirits, as rytlock had to deal with them first, not to mention the other hint of delaque now having her sister’s soul and weapon.

So yes, maybe a ritualist-like profession soon™

i think Caithe`s Secret is wynne, she is going to kill wynne for faolain, she committed MURDERER.

Trivia matter compared to what the PC has done. That aside how would Scarlet know about it?

How does scarlet know in the first place? The only ways so far are:
A) somehow got a seed like we did
2) Faolin told her.

I’d go with 2.

To an extent, I agree with you. That episode was a perfect opportunity to explore the secret Caithe was so desperately trying to keep. So far, what we got is but a glimpse in that she attacked centaurs alongside Faolain in an attempt to bring Wynne back but not much else until perhaps the next episode. If they are going to make players wait til January to finally know what her secret was, then it better be something really REALLY juicy. But I have a feeling that many lore nuts (including me) may have already guessed what it may be.

What I was trying to get at though, was the timing to reveal this was too late. More interesting things have happened that people want to know about now, and the chance for caith has passed

Caithe having a dark secret was first known to us back in twilight arbor when it first came out, and there was some excite to know what it was, and hope we would find out later in LS 1.

It never came.

The idea cooled off and went to the back of peoples minds till now. But now, its sorta ‘meh’. Why? Because it got over shadowed by something MORE traumatic and shocking.

“Hey guys, here’s a scene of rytlock not getting a spell perfectly right, and having to jump into the mists where many of the human ghosts that hated charr are. Oh! But remember those dark secrets mentioned bout caith? We’re going explore that now and leave just leeetle teasers what’s going on with rytlock through pics”

i know you said joining a guild shouldnt be mandatory, and it isn’t, but to now use a feature like it is just handicapping yourself.
Can LFG suck at times? Yes. Should you stop using it? No. There will always be bad apples in the bunch, but dont throw away the whole basket because of a few. When i feel like a dungeon run, I just hop into any group and go. If people rage quit or yell, I stay till kicked or everyone leaves, then i just reform the group and continue on. I mean, am I honestly going to let some stranger over the net’s opinion define me and judge me in a video game? No, so people need to lighten up when in LFG.

Now, as stated before, joining a guild seems to be the best way to go. Hang out in LA, or the starting zones, or the Looking for… forums and find a guild that does dungeons. I know I’ve seen them marketing themselves in map chat.

As for vets doing dungeons…unless they are going for either a Gift for a legendary, or the collections, there really is no incentive to do dungeons. Heck, if they make the rewards a bit better for the collections….MAYBE more people would do them

Guild Wars 2, the repetitive mmo?

Serophous.9085

It’s more like ANet is overwhelmed by their own creation. They don’t have either the numbers or the funding (thx ncsoft, hope our gems go towards aion expansions) to properly develop this mmo.

I don’t remember NOT having a ton of fun in a major expansion for an mmo…and “enough” fun to last me atleast a few months before the next expansion….because of the quantity of stuff they add. I also don’t remember feeling the repetitiveness of grinding as i feel it in gw2. They were repetitive, but they were done in such a way they were actually fun…either because of the people/community or the events themselves, mechanics and so on…completely new items, new skills..new classes, new worlds/stories to explore.

i am comparing “grinding” with “grinding” here..and the gw2 grinding is not only dull & stupid but also “short” as in things u can grind or nature of grinding.

Once more, fun is a subjective term. what’s fun to you may not be fun to someone else.

And I wish I had played those MMOs you played, they sound like ones everyone would still be playing

Serophous.9085

There will always be players who want to be “the first” in something, but i am sorry to tell u this, the GW2 players in general (a large majority of the ppl i’ve seen play) do that. That only means it’s because of the actual content.

It’s either too bad OR too small. The ONLY thing that makes players put in more gametime are the cinematics. If u remove them or give players an option, content would fly in less then 30-45 minutes. That’s the actual content gameplay they put in. 30-45minutes, if u are a terrible & slow players about 2h let’s say max. SO we get roughly 4h of content each month, with huge breaks in the past, cliffhangers in story that makes u want to puke (they had more cliffhangers in this season then bleach&naruto in their animes)…and when it comes down to content, how can you enjoy content that makes u feel “been there done that” over and over again.

Oh..and lately their idea of making u play is to enforce heavy grinding over cosmetic items. Thumbs up.

Grinding is essential to an mmo….but not infinite IDENTICAL grinding like this….Each 2 weeks we had to grind the same events, same map, same order, same everything over and over again for crests. It was a good idea for the first part but now it’s TOO MUCH and with no “break in grinding” between episodes.

Anyway, i learned my lesson with ANet and i just play 2/3 times each month just to be on track with everything. The rest of the month it’s a dead game. After the daily update i will heavily play 1 minute just to get the reward and quickly change games.

LS should be a buffer between expansions (that offer MASSIVE content from all POVs). If they don’t quit lying to themselves that LS is great, this game will never progress how it should. We entered year 3 with no sign of real content in exchange receiving repetitive grinding 2-3h content each 2 weeks with big cliffhangers and huge breaks once every X episodes.

I fully understand why ppl are frustrated enough with what they give us to literally not care anymore about it, and just rush it.

I’ve been a vet in MMOs a long time, I know how it works.

Grinding will always be in an mmo, this is true, and yes, it WILL BE IDENTICAL. Just like in WoWs raids, you fight the same bosses, same attack patterns, over and over in hopes of your item dropping. If it doesn’t, then repeat. In neverwinter, you grind the same daily quests over and over. In gw1 you grind the same mobs over and over for a weapon or grind events or kills for rep, the same thing, over and over. Farm the same dungeon over and over for materials to craft a specific gear…

Extensive grinding for looks isn’t new to gw2, it was in gw1.

I’m not going to bring in anime as if talking bout TV series, they always add filler to not catch up to the manga.

But again, you are proving what has been said before. Devs can’t keep up with consumption in MMOs, players are going to consume it as fast as they can. Any team could spend a month creating, and it could be consumed in an hour or less. It can’t be helped.

What is REAL content anyway? WoW just had their expansion, and people already tore through it, only to realize the rest of the stuff is time gated garrisons, and achievement hunting, plus time gated raids. And now people who rushed to 100 are saying “there is nothing to do…we need content!” And WoW players are saying the same thing as gw2 players “There is content, just because its content that isn’t specifically tailored to you doesn’t mean there hasn’t been any”.

So what is rel content nowadays? An expansion won’t be enough, and you are lying to yourself if you think it will be. I can probably go searching through the old gw1 forums and find people complaining about no content as well when those expansions came out, or the grind, or the same thing people complain about now

Serophous.9085

The biggest difference with GW2’s repetitiveness is that it repeats every like… 30, 40 minutes?

The fact that people try to dodge a lot of content just to get the reward in the new map is proof enough that the design is flawed.

Or….that people will always always always take the easiest route to get a reward.

Heck, this also made me realize;
Player1: “GW2 has no content!”
Player2: “well, stop skipping it just for the rewards then!”

the Great Fix (for the meta)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

Once again,

The meta can never be fixed, nor should it be. Only the overpowered and underpowered needs to be fixed. Balance should always come around in a full circle and not end somewhere. For every build, there should be a good counter to it, but not a hard counter.

And thats what the video is about adding new mob classes that could be countered by deffrent build which will make a dungeon party choose deffrent role builds (condition, support etc etc)… and adding new mob class wont effect pvp so its a safer way than adjusting build system

OK guys! This dungeon relies more on condition builds! So everyone go condition and….oh wait….conditions don’t stack….

I really feel disheartened by this 6 week break now.

I hope I don’t sound unsympathetic to your plight, but as a content creator and dev, we could have a lot worse problems than our players being impatient to find out what happens next. If it helps, I am as impatient as you to have our next episode get released, and as hopeful as you that you will really like it.

By all means, continue to direct your writing criticisms at me. It may not seem like it at times to you (bearing in mind that we’re working ahead), but are we doing our best to make course-corrections to address your concerns.

I wish you (and all our fans) a great holiday season as well. Thank you for nearly two and a half years of your support, strong feelings, and constructive criticism. You guys are the best!

Here’s my feedback, some based on assumptions, and done by phone, bare with me.

I see each episode of the LS like a TV episode, except once every two weeks. So, what kind of TV episode is it? One that just stands alone? Or that each episode builds into another? Easy answer, number 2.

I feel it should be falling in the lines of how some of my favorite old cartoons did (and still rewatch till this day if given the chance) of justice league (and unlimited) and avatar the last air bender, for example. Now of course, there were some episodes that could stand alone, but there was something always going on in the background that led to a bigger finale. Now, what that did was give me the feeling of closure at least for the current problem, but then awaiting, a suspense, for what’s to come. Example: justice league defeat self replicating robots from space (Dark heart), and the military confiscates them. Closure in the League defeating, suspense in ‘how will the military abuse this?’. And yes, it does come back.

Let’s compare to something more current and has. Mid season breaks, Walking Dead. SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER
In the mid season finale, we see them finally rescue beth, only to see her die. So, closure, although sad. But then, there are still questions that are unknown. Where do they go? What do they do with Eugene? Will Beth’s sister go suicidal? Etc. We got some answers, but are left with questions still to keep us coming back
end spoiler
With this episode ending, we were teased about caiths past by scarlet, and now we are learning, that’s fine. The problem was the cut off. I mean, I feel I can predict part of episode 8. “We must find a way to open this door, back to priory, run around, open door, end”. Now, its hard for me to say where ep 7 should end, because I don’t know the next episode, but as a guess, we should’ve planted the final seed, seen that event, realize what’s coming, THEN end it. Again, I would need to see EP 8 to make the call.

Next, the LS seems to be written in the hard POI of second person. Not just the LS, but all of gw2 story so far, when gw1 threw in some third person (our characters weren’t present at some scenes, like when the lich first appears, but we as players see it). The LS can be seen as " you go to look for caiths scouting party. You find canach. You help faith, etc". And while gw1 can be said the same, there are no third person moments I can even remember. And as something seen as a TV episode, those are needed at some points. They don’t have to be big giveaways, but more anticipating bits (oh we are gonna fight a lich at some point!).

Finally, we are the silent protagonist. I know, too much money to record for each race plus each gender, and we are technically are talking, its just in text. But it just feels….weird. I mean I know other games do it, but here it seems really weird that people are having a conversation around us, it stops for us to say something in text, then back to talking. When again, in gw1, we actually spoke during cutscenes.

I don’t hate ls2, I think its better than one so far, but it still has ways to go.

I’m starting to think either anet has a plant fetish, or are “racist” against using the other races as big bad villian :p

Oh, and this cliffhanger was a pain too. Usually in an episode like this, you get some closure in areas, then the cliff. I felt no closure at all here on questions.

Solution(?): Increase fan speed. Explain below

Ok, so I thought I give some feedback for anyone else.

I attempted the work around as noted above. I basically throttled back my GPU, and I didn’t experience any freezes during gw2. unfortunately, this seemed to not work well with other games, causing multiple crashes, sometimes all at once. Now, I was crashing before hand, which still led me to believe something was going on.

I searched the net after reading about the GPU Boost, and found that this “feature” included in video cards causes a lot of problems at times. Apparently, when this kicks in, if your GPU reaches something like 70 C, it throttles, causing crashes. I assumed this is what was causing the problems.

So, the recommended theory for this was to increase the fan speed of the GPU, some suggesting to max when gaming, and when not, set back to auto. I did this, and so far (fingers crossed), not one freeze. I still need to test out my other games, but this SEEMS to be working.

This is the thread I found out about the fan:

So,

Week1-4, days 1-4 are mystic coins, laural, essence if luck, armor piece(?), day 6 experience book.
Week 1-2, day 5 crafting supplies
Week 1 and 3, day 7 laurals.
Week 2 day 7 armor (?)
Week 3 day 5 booster (?)
Week 4 day 5 transmutation charge.
Week 4 day 7 ascended mats (?)

I’m not gonna speculate on the chest and with armor, I’m just more concerned about the coins and laurals.

1. How many laurals given out on log in days, and the end of the two different weeks, at the end of the 28 days in a chest?
2. How many coins?
3. The ascended mats, will it contain stuff like Bolts of damask, the steel bars, etc, or dragonite, bloodstone….(which we have TONES of now). Or the threads and mithril, or globs?
4. One of the many things holding back legendary crafting are the t6 mats. Does the 28 day chest give more or less what the current 28 day laurals give?
5. Can we get examples of what someone in pve gets from a daily reward?
6. The crafting material chests, do they contain 1-6 at any level, or scale to your level? Do they match profession or any profession?
7. The chest of legendary crafting mats, chance for a precursor in this chest? Also, if we keep picking this because you need more of the t6 mats than clovers, won’t this become more of a pain to choose when we are swimming in 250+ clovers?

I know, its a lot, and probably repeated questions from this thread, but I’m hoping we can get a BIT more information

In one case it was a pre-overclocked GPU becoming unstable and causing the video driver to restart and in turn freezeing the game. The second scenario was caused by a turbo boost setting on a CPU causing a similar outcome. Both were solved by scaling back the overclock/boost.

I would first try the most recent drivers again.

Well I’ve never experienced that behavior. I have the same GPU, but everything else is different. I will however recommend checking your video drivers through the nvidia utility, or directly from the website. In my experience windows update cannot be trusted to keep my nvidia drivers up to date.

What your internet situation? How stable is your connection? Wired/wireless?

connection is wired. And is stable.

As for the driver, I recently rolled back because the newest update was causing problems in other games, as well as gw2. I had looked this up on the nvidia forums. As for the updates, i update through the nvidia program, which lets me know when a new driver is available

Ok, this is happening more often now, and its getting annoying. Its only happening in gw2, none of my other games.

system specs:
GPU: GeForce GTX 660
CPU: AMD FX 6200 six-core processor
Memory: 16gb
OS: Win 8.1

The game just freezes on me. I can be standing around, doing nothing, and the game freezes in place. Sound still plays, but can’t move. The only way to get out of it is to ctrl+alt+del and either sign out or restart computer. No, I cant go to task master, because the gw2 program stays up top, not allowing me to look at another window.

The last two freezes occured just as I was standing in the silverwastes to complete the final story arc on an alt. Yes, just STANDING. The second time, I was in LA, at a way point, just loaded in. 3 seconds, the game freezes.

Please! can I actually get help on this?

I wonder if there were any complaints about gw1.

If only there were fan sites we could go to to see threads starting from the beginning of players complaints and concerns of changes to the game, or grind, or balance, or solo play….

there were numerous. but they were mostly regarding skill balance.

I wouldn’t say mostly. There are those complaining about the grind, about the lore, about expansions, about anet breaking promises.

Maybe it didn’t seem as apparent because gw1 itself didn’t have a centralized forum, as gw2 does. So for gw1, complaints probably seemed lessened because they were all spread out. Now, they have a central area.

Man they must be in pretty deep financial trouble if someone going on vacation can delay something for 2 years.

Colin’s reply to you from a year ago -

Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.

We’ve learned we really can’t give timelines, since if we’re ever wrong a mob comes after us with torches and pitchforks I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.

Some small parts of that comprehensive plan for game reward systems are already rolling out this month with the updates to WvW rank rewards.

For more details of our high-level strategy, feel free to check out:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/

So many great ideas…I wish I knew what happened to that Anet…

The collection system they have implemented can allude to a system in the direction of precursor crafting.

If you look at how illuminate armor pieces are obtained, one can say they are currently piloting a system before deciding if its a good system for obtaining precursors.

This is speculation but you can see that they are at least experimenting with different reward systems for a parallel intent.

Whereas WoW had Theorycrafters, GW2 has Speculationcrafters.

When Ghostcrawler promised a pony, someone at ANet was the intended receiver of said promised pony, and thus the realm of false hopes and dreams was born, also known as corporate policy over at ANet.

Hell, while they are at it, they might as well promise everything to us to shut us up for a few months, drive up them gemgate store sales from all the pacified angry users and then think of something else up when that wears off. Thats what i’d do if i was a used car salesman.

Don’t forget that pony became a moose, and WoW didn’t even get that.

We should start gw2’s own.

I never played GW1 but I can totally see where you are coming from with the disappointment thing. You see I used to play DDO, and have been a DnD fan for a long long time now. So naturally when I heard that PWE was making a game called Neverwinter I thought oh man that’s going to be awesome!

Then the game launched and they don’t have dual specs and they don’t even have 25% of the classes available in DnD 4th Edition, imagine my disappointment.

So I refuse to play that game until they at least increase the number of class choices to 25% of the original and include some classes that were unique to the genre like Artificer (which in DnD terms means a crafter/user of magical items as it’s primary means of combat).

It’s the same for STO in my case, they included only minorly some of the lore, but there are several holes in their universe too, for example, you can earn Gold Pressed Latinum from playing Dabo but you really can’t do anything with it. In Trek lore all throughout the several series and books that have come out, people who had alot of GPL could easily buy ships, weapons, planets but you can do none of those things in STO it’s just there to buy holograms and minor energy boosts to ships (which you can buy already from other sources.) It’s not even a currency used in the formation of a starbase!

I think it’s a trend it’s not limited to this title I think that publishers feel they can just put out as little as possible and make a profit off of it and there’s really only 2sets of people to blame for that, the publishers and the apologists who let this happen by not only spending more money on weakly developed games, but also those who get in here and make it seem like our valid concerns over where MMO’s are heading in the industry (or particular mmo’s like in your post here) are somehow crazy, like we’re the ones with the problem for demanding high quality for our dollars. smh

DDO was based on 3.5e, which was popular. Complicated and overpowered at times, but popular.

Neverwinter was based on 4.0e, which was horrible, boring, and not fun as you basically never got to customize your class.

5.0e looks promising, I’ve only built a character so far, and it feels more like 3.5e but toned down. I’ll see how it goes.

Back on topic, I don’t believe anyone would stand for pure crap in an mmo, but you forget that the industry was starting to hurt before gw2 even came out as it was being called stale. I don’t chide at a developer for trying something new, I chide at the ideas flaws and assist to make it better, unless there really is no hope, and what constitutes that will depend on person to person. What doesn’t work for one may work for another.

High quality depends on the person as well, what is hit quality to one may be low to another. What many people need to understand is you can’t please everyone. You may like something and defend it against people to hate, and vice versa. For all I know you may have liked 4.0 and I think its an abomination to the DnD franchise. I can say 3.5 was the peak, and you can say it sucked.

This is it, you don’t like it shame. Not going to change things.

I didn’t really have a response to this thread til I read this quoted post.

No one asked anyone to change anything. Just pointing that out right here, right now.

The OP stated he desires a follow up to GW1, not a theft of names and places used to make an entirely different game. You have two camps here, and the responses will reflect this.

Camp 1: GW1 players who were looking forward to a new engine to GW1 expanding in to crafting (I guess) and such, to provide a new experience with the old game. This was pretty much sold as GW2 right up until the launch when it was clear the Manifesto was ditched.

Camp 2: Players who never played GW1 during it’s glory days and come to GW2 from other games. These are the ones typically stalwartly defending everything in GW2 and poo-pooing anyone who brings up anything with GW1 in the discussion.

Played gw1, did not see what all the hype was about. If anything, people like wearing thick rose colored glasses when talking bout gw1.

Now excuse me while I GRIND the SAME personal instance over and over again to GRIND for rep with a faction or GRIND by killing the same mob hoping for its weapon to drop or GRIND for ectos and gold to get other items or enchants.

Although I gave feedback before, with changes to the map and new things, I’d thought I’d update.

Loot: loot, IMO, is nice ATM with wandering around either defending or getting lockboxes, or the champ train and labyrinth. I think maybe a slight increase is in order in the event rewards with badges.

As for the pieces needed from the meta bosses, I think if an exchange system was in place for those who didn’t get the part they needed, would make many complaints subside.

The meta bosses: as people have now learned how to take down indigo more and more, the worse offender is Red. Simply because it can be trolled and lost, as people purposefully aoe (yes, there are people doing this on purpose). Thus, the boss heals. While this can happen to almost all the others, I think it means a look at the mechanics for future bosses. Small scale this can work, but larger it becomes harder.

The defend events: sadly, this is becoming the blemish on what could be a very fun zone. When I first entered, I thought the defend the forts events would get harder, with stronger and more enemies, not just and increased timer…

IMO, how it should have been done.
Retake
First defense: easy
Second: more vets, maybe an elite.
Third: elites and champs
Fourth: throw in the random spawn legendary. (No longer random)

Increase the rewards and the progress bar faster the longer you hold. Perhaps even tie the difficulty to the tier of the fort, thus caravans become even more important. Scale the rewards as well.

Faolin brings a group of sylvarie after telling caithe THEY would go (in other words, just those two).
As you go through, those other sylvarie are apparently discovered if you listen to the centaurs talk.
And although we can move to see what happens between faolin and the one centaur, this IS a memory, so technically caithe never knew.
The centaur that pulls us aside to talk plays the oh so wonderful game of “wait here because the reason must be kept a secret because nothing bad ever happens that way” game. I mean, caithe says how she loves Faolin (I see it as a sisterly love, not like cas and Del), so when she screams for help, wouldnt you run out?

We don’t know all the details, though I’m sure Faolin will gloat about how she killed the tribe, caithe will see how faolin is evil, and something about the site will require the egg.

So no, until all statements are given, I can’t pass judgement

This "Meta" has to end

Serophous.9085

As stated before, there will never ever ever ever EVER be complete and equal balance in an mmo. There will always be a meta. Heck, there are metas outside of MMOs (tcgs for example)!

If you nerf zerk, people will go to assassins, and so on and so on, till its your armor stats you don’t want nerfed, when that is now the meta.

I think its more that people are too afraid to make their own groups, weeing how other post with such requirements as “10k ap” or “zerks only!”. Just make your own group, and don’t worry about meeting those requirements. When I make a dungeon group for cof, I just say “p1”. That’s it. Other dungeons same thing. If, for cof, they say " can I bring an alt for the XP?" In my mind sure, but I run it by the group first.

Basically, stop trying to fit in with others, and run your own. Its OK, and if people leave, they leave. Don’t let it get to you.

Azurite orbs were available during the Flame and Frost prelude to living story season 1, where you first met Rox and Brahm. You would get to mine for a chance from the mithril and ori nodes that were in the digging tunnel right at the beginning. Once the episode was over, the gems disappeared. No one really saw that coming at the time (and those who did are reaping the rewards now) as I and others thought it would just be thrown into the loot table for all nodes then.

But basically, you can’t obtain these orbs anymore (I don’t believe the fractal drops them), so there is a limited supply, and the cost can only go up.

Hm, OK. So basically, they are the first filtration, finding threads that look good and passing them onto the devs. They may even participate, asking unbiased questions such as a Dev sometimes asks (as the question in the raid cdi o. Obtaining armor outside raid, etc). If the thread continues on a good note, it gets passed to the anet team, who take it from there. Sound about right?

And I didn’t want to come off sounding crude about attacking, I just feel, as someone who has worked in more public relations jobs, that while it makes no sense TO attack a specialist, they are there atm, despite it really not being their fault. I just speak from experience that there has been some of that in the forums, and of course the reason matchup threads were removed from wvw.

Serophous.9085

My question stems from the last paragraph:

So, the forum expert(s) see a topic they like and join in on the discussion. The discussion goes great, but the forum expert makes no promise to relay this to the devs. So is there a standard or something that must be met for the topic to be relayed? If so, how high is it set?

Next, does this mean less Dev time in talking? I understand they get busy, they have a game to run, and I’m glad both you and Chris and others have even spent some weekend time chatting on here, I’m grateful for that. But I’m scared we are going to go back to when an actual discussion or meaningful (content, features, etc) thread would be visited by a Dev once in a blue moon (I know support posts a lot XD). I think the community is still hung up over that, and have been spoiled a bit with interaction at present.

As for Dev posts, if the thread IS relayed, would a Dev pop in as well to view or communicate? Or is it just the volunteers?

The final thing I see being an issue is these people will be basically on the front lines now, taking much of the heat an anger from people, all while doing it for free. Its going to require a very thick skin requirement, as I said before, these people will probably be labeled as “white knights”.

I’m not saying this is a bad idea, but a few details are still missing.

I was curious about that to… There’s at least 2 white knights nearly everyone here is familiar with, as well as a handful depending on where you spend most of your time.
I don’t know what countries they’re in, so maybe it doesn’t matter but letting the white knights get some kind of backing (even if only in their heads) is a bad idea.
I love gw2, I’ve been here since pre-beta, I white knighted the Facebook page for months during the beta, so I understand white knights and this is a really bad idea if you let someone who cannot look at both sides of the coin be in charge of reporting to Anet…

Other comment, I thought about applying; but it sounds an awful lot like another job, but with none of the benefits.

This post is a great example of other problems. If the forum mods come in and try to bring in a healthy debate, what they say or who they are will soon enough be labeled as “white knights”. And that Anet only chooses “white knights” to run the program. If anything, that word and term is getting thrown around too much, that if someone agrees with one thing with Anet, they are labeled a white knight nowadays.

Key farming gone?

Serophous.9085

My average key farm time went from 20-30 minutes solo to an hour and a half solo.

It’s not gone, just annoyingly long now.

You’re not doing it right then D=
Even crafting a character to level 10 and doing the key run can be done in less than 20mins if you’re well equipped.

Ehhhh…..it varies.

I do the first four hearts in queens, and I don’t have the toy speed boost, but there are uncontrollable factors.

The lv 1 area for the event you may get stuck at the gate, and not have enough time to run around.
Any events that take place around the four heart areas. I usually just do enough for credit and continue on, but if no events pop up, less XP, thus need to craft more.
Other players, usually around the second and third heart, can impede your run as well killing mobs.
Then there’s if your crafting crits or not.
Then theres if the mobs in the story behave correctly and not go on to the NPCs or something in the story.

I dont agree. PvP Reward Tracks are too easy.

Compared to what? RNG? LOL?

Before you had to get r30 to even get a chance to work on these armors (there were mystic forge recipes as a good alternative to the RNG chests). And r30 took a lot longer than it does with inflated rank points today.

Yeah, it was a great alternative. Farm to get glory to buy a wolf chest, then use a pvp salvage kit, then pray the RNG from salvaging would give you the correct items to throw into the forge. Continue to do so till you get said items. Then throw into the forge and pray that RNG doesn’t screw you over once more.

Boy, doesn’t that sound like FUN!?

I would be more than happy with LS replacing the traditional expansion pack if Anet swifts it’s focus away from the 2 weeks “Let’s get new LS content out as fast as possible” and possibly go to a once a month release schedule so they have more time to add more meat into the releases, like larger more detailed maps, possible new weapons/skills and most important more longer in-detailed story missions that you can’t run threw in 5 or 10 mins with your eyes close and no effort.

Take the last LS update Tangled Paths, I enjoyed it but at the same time it was pathetic how short it was. 2 VERY SHORT missions (3 if you can even count “Return to Camp Resolve” as a mission) that I got done in around 30 mins.

A once a month release schedule allowing Anet to add more meat to the LS episodes I think will help a lot of players that are crying about the lack of content. The main problem I see coming from those players is they seem to completely forget about the LS episode that came before when a new one is released, as if it was wipe from their memory.

Most complaint from players is about more content with more put into it not necessarily a large amount of content at once. So if Anet can put more into the LS episodes I think that will help in the long run.

I agree with the monthly schedule than two weeks. It was a good attempt, but I was skeptical at first, and feel rightly so. Maybe if anet was bigger, they could, but I hope they just back off to monthly updates and not continue the two week approach.

proposed theory

in Living World

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

OK, this may be a stretch, but its just something nagging at my mind that I want to here opinions on.

First (and to me disappointing), the personal story, LS1 and 2 have all been about the sylvari and their roles in the world. We assist trahearne, canach, Scarlet, the sabatoger, and now caithe. Each one has either had a big influence or change in the story, or were the main antagonist.

Now, the Pale tree was found in a cave with plant creatures guardian it. It is assumed the Pale tree was to be Mord’s champ guardian to awaken it. But, what if, a guardian can use its power of awaken to suppress as well? What if the Pale tree was still connected to Mord and was keeping him at bay, though creating her children, training them (fighting the dragon in the dream) having them learn from the world, for the day her power fades and her army can rise to fight back the dragon? Not to mention, I believe the pale tree hides some knowledge from its children.

Trahearne was the first test, to become a leader and see if he can defeat zhaitan, he succeeded. Mord was getting tired of waiting, and the pale tree’s power was too strong still for him to do much, but when scarlet went into the machine, which mustve connected to Mord somehow, he found his chance and corrupted her directly, being so close. Thus, that jolt in the layline was enough to weaken the connection between the pale tree and Mord, allowing him to feed better, summon minions, and attack further away. But it wasn’t enough.

Enter the attack on the tree and to kill it, so he may rise fully. He only managed to severely wound the Pale tree, but his influence was able to grow more (as we saw in the scouting missions).

Now, this next part, think of the pale tree still having “roots” connected to mord, and by that connection the pale tree suppresses the dragon, but cannot cut those roots or it will die. Instead, mord has been chipping away at those roots slowly, and sorta “plucking” the tree from itself. And what can you do to a plant if you pluck it from one spot? Replant it somewhere else.

Hence the egg. The pale tree didn’t send us to safe guard it to hatch and raise it, she sent us to retrieve it and protect it for its own uses. Mord knew this, hence the plot to kill the master and take the egg for himself.

Basically this: the pale tree knew it was going to die soon, having almost or is severed from mordrimoth, so it is going to replant itself in the dragon egg, allowing it to live and continue fighting mordrimoth. Hence caith stealing it with ‘no time to explain’ as time was running short on the pale trees lifespan.
