I do have some good news, though: placement matches are no different to ordinary matches, so you have not really lost anything except for a small dip in MMR that will rapidly correct itself to reflect your actual skill, rather than your poor luck.
Googling them gives some reports on other games of this being the source of packet loss. Hopefully its just a short peroid thing. I literally just dropped 75$ on gear to fix my ping for Season 6…..
Ouch! Unfortunately, if you are getting packet loss at those level3 hosts, new equipment on your end isn’t going to make any difference.
I’m a new player, don’t have an 80 yet. Reading the forums and reddit it seems HoT is ‘L2P or GTFO’. Still enjoying the core game, but not looking forward to HoT.
I’m sorry that you read the forums and reddit, honestly. HoT is an increase in challenge, but it’s hardly the brick wall of difficulty some posters would have you believe — if you play through to 80, Orr is a nice exposure to harder, smarter enemies.
Expect it to be challenging until you master the various creatures, but it’s hardly that terrible.
TLDR; What makes GW2 different than any other generic MMO right now?
How would you convince a WoW player for example to come and play GW2 today? Because I can’t think of anything else but “well it’s like WoW, but different…it has asuras instead of gnomes, and you don’t need 100 addons to be able to get into a raid…yet”
Lack of gear grind resets. Effective level scaling. More interesting combat. Designed to avoid other players ever being a negative thing to see. Different story. Different aesthetic in-game.
I appreciate that you feel like permitting DPS meters is a bad thing, but (a) they were there before this, and (b) hostility comes from players, not meters, even if they are the current wave of excuses.
Also, ultimately, we really are just another bunch of murder hobos, running about committing mass murder for cash. It’s really not that distinct from other MMOs.

Alternately, consume for one spirit shard, which https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/spirit-shards will tell you the profit of, usually more than a few silver per shard.
(Though fair warning, the reason it remains valuable is that it is tedious.)
What I meant by that an ascended that you can change stats on freely is obviously better than an ascended.
Also prettier, in general. They are not mechanically better in any other way, though, if you are following along at home. So other than being less expensive to change stats on than ascended stuff, and prettier, you don’t technically need them.
Though, practically, how can you live without a shortbow that shoots rainbow unicorns at your enemies!
That’s a good report, describing the race, class, weapon, and animation. Can you describe how it bugs out beyond just “looks bad”? That might help ensure it’s fixed.
…and just in case, the most recent patch was “fix deimos”, so maybe done, yo.
Yeah, Avast should be OK. Please, please have backups though. Because any disaster is terrible. Dropbox and Google Drive copies of stuff are pretty easy, and worth it.
Yep. Game is unplayable for me atm. Disconnecting every five min or falling into a long spike that ends with a disconnect. Has to be something with the NcSoft servers since I can play FFXIV or any other game just fine.
That’s like saying “I was driving to a building on the other side of town, and there was an accident half way — it MUST be the BUILDINGS FAULT because I WAS DRIVING TO IT”
Others, for example, me, are having zero problems. You might consider following the directions in https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network if you would like to find out where the problem actually lies, and if anything can be done about it.

Though there is quite the diffrence between peak tempature and always staying at it
Perfect, thanks! That’s super useful to know, and says that we should try and stay at or below 60 degrees C for sustained use.
It look like a thief on steroid… Nowhere close to a necromancer in anything.
GW2’s necromancer may not be satisfying but it does have some ties with the idea of what it is to be a necromancer. I know that the minion master don’t feel like a one man army but at least it try. I know that the GW2’s necromancer is a bit pityable when it come to weakening it’s foes… But at least it try.The necromancer in GW2 have a design that have it’s root in how wwe picture a Necromancer at least.
The Dark knight in BDO… Well it doesn’t look like a knight, it doesn’t have any design elements close to a Necromancer… Well I’m even wondering why this thing appear in a thread in the GW2 necromancer’s forum.
I can’t answer your question, but I can speculate: I, personally, like the “lich king” sort of necromancer thing. Heavy armor, greatsword, dark magic, poison, undead minions, life draining, that sort of thing.
Necromancer without reaper is much less interesting to me, in terms of “style”, than with it. I’m very glad that GS was improved for condition necro, because it means that I get good damage along with the style I like.
In that vein the Dark Knight in BDO, the Death Knight in WoW, and so on, are things I try out to see if they work for me mechanically, since I generally like the style — and, y’know, if it’s an MMO I’m gonna be seeing that style quite a bit, y’know?
(I didn’t really try it out because of keymapping problems, but they porny moans while I was stunned at the very start of BDO trying to do those settings changes really didn’t make me think I was gonna actually enjoy it.)
Well what are your reasons for going for the particular upgrades? Most of the ones available are useless to most people. My guild got those upgrades simply because they are there and not because they are providing anything useful.
This! The answer to “how do you get people to contribute to a guild upgrade” is “explain to them why the contribution is valuable”, at which point they will nod, and contribute.
It doesn’t even need to be in-game benefits. It could be “social approbation, and a shiny thanks in the MoTD” or something. You just need people to want to contribute, which means you need to give them a reason to want it.
As any veteran MMO raider can tell you, when trying to overcome an encounter, the answer is always, always more dps. The faster the bad guy dies, the fewer times you will encounter mechanics, the more efficiently you will handle changes, the greater the room for error, the less strain on the defensive raid members — the easier everything is.
Nope. Usually, yes, but not always. Sometimes, too much damage interferes with timer-/percentage-based mechanics and creates “new” mechanics you really, really don’t want to play :P
Also, at least over in WoW-land there was an acknowledgement that there was a balance between “more DPS” and “better handling of mechanics or avoidable damage” that was worth understanding.
I mean, standing in the fire and continuing to DPS while the healers keep you up … improves DPS, but it may not be the most optimal path to victory.
Yes, the less times you have to do a mechanics cycle the less chances to screw up, but that’s not always the right choice overall. (Not to mention … this is basically “we don’t need to learn the fight, we just need to outgear it”.)
Raiding isn’t easy, but it’s really a game of coordination, not raw numbers.
It’s both.
Technically true, though all the numbers I have seen suggest that the “raw numbers” part is low enough (on the order of 10k/s/player) that it’s achievable without too much hardship?
…or maybe I’m off on that, I don’t know. Does anyone have the actual numbers recorded anywhere for health &c. for the bosses, along with enrage timers? We could math it out from that if they did.
You are right. They did do that. I stand corrected — I literally couldn’t think of any examples of it happening direct to achievement, and I was wrong.
I’m pretty sure that the answer here is: if it was easy to do “mounts” in the sense of an extra slot, etc, it’d be done that way. Since they chose this more cumbersome thing … it’s an experiment to see how well people like a system that they can do without significantly more costly changes to the client and server.
FWIW, I’m pretty sure it’s more or less a recolor, and maybe small animation changes, from the ley line ascender and glider, so it’s mostly art resources, not backend, behind this one.
Note that back in 2015, conversion from f2p to purchase was the pain point, not cash shop income, which was still good and solid.
Also, generally speaking, “you would make money doing X” is a very poor argument to present to game developers to support your idea. You should focus, instead, on why you think it is good, fun, and makes the game better.
Basically, only ANet have the tooling to answer questions about how much money may, or may not, be made by introducing something. Your speculation may be fun, but it’s not what they are looking for here.
Ditto player retention, something you have even less insight into than the financials, because one of these two gets a semi-regular infodump, and the other just doesn’t.
Instead, what they want is to hear what you enjoy, and why. Especially why, which is the most important thing.
Your post doesn’t say anything about why more elite specs would be good, or fun, or anything like that. All we know is that you think it’s a good idea, and would make money.
I did this story no more than a week ago again on a new character. It is definitly not bugged, I nailed it first try.
You have to run and possibly jump in the stem of the updrafts to be thrust upwards.
Only run. Not jump. Jumping leads to it not working, and sadness. Lots of sadness. Just walk or run into them.
Yes, this is absolutely, positively the opposite of how everything else in HoT works. Yes, it’s kittenning kitten that is how it works. …but don’t leave the ground until you are lifted by the game. Just don’t touch that spacebar!
https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network has a good guide to tracking down where the problem lies. You might find it useful to figure out if it’s likely to be something anet related, or something in the network between you and them.
(If it’s intermittent, and not blowing up the forums, there is a good chance some dude with a backhoe, a beer can, and a yen to dig trenches without checking for fibre has something to do with it.
Im done, i had bad connection just in gw2 during all “between seasons” time period and still have it when the season starts. There is no aswer from Arenanet and the only time i can play with my normal ping (70-90 ms) is if i use a program like WTFast or similar and i dont going to pay for a program just to get my ping in just one game. Ive been waiting so much.
I quit
Note that WTFast is just a VPN — it can only increase latency, not reduce it, in a “normal” network environment. If it improves your connection then there is some problem between your computer and the anet servers — that is not related to the anet servers.
(Why? Because if it was the anet servers, it would be common to both paths. They definitely must share the same servers, if you play gw2 with them, but they don’t need to share anything else beyond your first hop to the ISP.)
So, if you actually want to figure out how to fix this, https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network is a good guide to tracking down where in the path between you and anet the problem lies, and includes advice on how to end up getting it fixed.
A better cooler would be like $20 (212 Evo, which is what I use. 4.5GHz@1.32V with good temps, ~70-72 tops in games). Overclocking would definitely help, and is the cheapest way to get better performance, but the end result still won’t be great. Just a bit better
thats bad temps for amd lol for intel i can not say
Meh. “Good” might be overstating it a bit but it’s not at a point where it’s worrisome/a problem
Guessing you’ve never done much research into the safe operating temps of an amd fx cpu be it 6 or 8. Belive me 70c is worry some it wont live very long for you at temps like that sounds like you need to be going water if you are hitting them temps. But do what ya wish your hardware not mine.
Do you have a reference for that, tek? As far as I can tell, AMD don’t publish any official specification of temperature ranges for their FX class CPUs.
Well, I just finished reinstalling the game and it works now. What the hell was that? -_- I only use Reshade but never had problems with it. I put it back and works again. Weeeird.
Sounds like something corrupted the executable, or maybe one of the data files, in a way that repair didn’t fix or something. It’s very strange, so the two things I’d advise being concerned about are:
It could be some malware trying to infect the executable, and failing. That’s not super-duper likely because that’s hardly the most common path for the things these days, but make sure your Windows Defender is up to date and run a full scan.
It could also be that there was something unrecoverably wrong with a block on your hard disk. That could presage a disk failure, so make sure anything you value on that drive is backup up somewhere, just in case. (It’s more likely it was just a bad block, couldn’t be recovered, but got replaced with a spare on rewrite, or the issue went away after rewrite, but … having backups is a good idea anyhow.

Ah welcome back beloved DC error! NOT “__” haven’t had this error for a couple years now. Latest patch, and now it’s constant. ANET fix your servers.
Given this is not universal, there is a chance that this is not caused by the ANet servers, but by something else getting in the way. https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network has a great guide for how to localise the problem spot.
You could also try overriding the clientport to 80 or 443, which can help bypass your ISP blocking traffic, or try out a VPN which can route around the problem in exchange for an increase in latency.
I gotta admit, while reaper feels good animation and skill-wise, it’s not amazing to play. I wanted to try out the BDO version of the “dark knight magic / greatsword combo”, but sadly was blocked by my dvorak keyboard and trying to keybind. :/
I’ve tried hero points but no “commune with this …” hero point. The one in the VB worked as expected. Thanks guys!
haha, sometimes it really isn’t plugged in, as it were. so glad I thought to add that!
As someone new to the game but an MMO veteran, i find it very disheartening that there is so little diversity in the meta and the concensus seems to be “which proffs can we take that yeald the maximum dps and boons while having a quasi tank and heal set up that sacrifice as little dps as possible while being able to do the job”
Are you sure that you don’t remember the pressure to play whatever the flavor of the month is in other MMOs? WoW and “this week holy, next week disc” for priests, the big frost / unholy / frost cycle for DKs, monks and their up and down path through power levels, etc?
It’s really just players being, as they often are, players. Like the people who insist that it’s impossible to raid without “best in slot” gear, ignoring that week one clears are done by groups who literally cannot have that stuff, etc.
Greetings raid community! As a fractal player I have a question: is there any raid content that could be cleared based on the following critera?
A) A full 10-player group is used;
B) All players have at least exotic 80 gear;
C) The players are experienced in higher-level PvE GW2 content but not necessarily raids and are willing to talk and take instruction;
D) The players are LFG randomers using the in-game chat to communicate;and most crucially
E) no restrictions are imposed on what classes, builds or stats any player uses.
Or to put it another way: would I be wasting everyone’s time if I hosted a raid group without imposing class and gear restrictions? I don’t mind if the harder content is out of reach – just if any content is possible at all.
With that … all the raid content can be completed. Absolutely, positively, one hundred percent.
Some of your players may have to change their builds over time, and it will help to gear up to ascended, but those are things that you can figure out and that will be implemented by players who look at their own performance and want to improve.
They are also significantly aided by actually raiding. As you identify weak spots, people committed to success will step up and fill them. It may or may not look anything like the “meta” that qt use for their record times and low-person clears, but it will absolutely cover and complete the content.
The only thing that would stop you is if you have players who don’t actually want to step up to complete the raid — not “stick with their build”, not “play the right class”, just not actually put the effort into doing mechanics right.
Raiding isn’t easy, but it’s really a game of coordination, not raw numbers. If your group is really good at high level pve stuff, and interested in clearing the raid, and willing to accept that some failure lies on the path to success…
you got this.
it is not daily its simply once per meta you can do as many times as you want the meta and you will get all the chest inside tarrir at least once per meta.
…and just to cycle around: I needed 600 aurillium for a recipe. I did the meta twice, back to back. I looted all chests after each success. There was no limit beyond that.
So, as said: now you get one round of chest looting for one meta completion.
Next up: My first precursor?
You never know. My precursor came from the King Jalis Refuge jp in Snowden Drifts.
I traded in six frozen weapon fragments yesterday, thinking “mmm, two ecto”.
I got the Leaf of Kudzu, and a Shamans weapon used to make the corrupted shard.
https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network is a great guide to how to go through that whole process — it’s the thing Gator is referencing there, I suspect.
This will help figure out where the problem is, so you can hopefully get it fixed. (Since it’s probably not universal, so anet may not be able to do anything. :? )
If you have a DPS meter, or any sort of graphical enhancement like reshade or gemfx installed, remove them.
Try rebooting.
Try running a malware scan with windows defender.
It’s … possible, because it happened, but I’ll bet that it’s in that fun category of bugs, “something bad happened when nothing obvious changed so it’s impossible to figure out the root cause and fix it, since it’s some random timing related crash caused by both software and hardware.”
I am currently leveling a Thief also (lvl 17).
Most of the mobs dont even last a single Unload (P/P).
P/P is really good for leveling so far but as you can see it gets boring after a while.I used to love playing DoT classes in other MMOs.
As such I would like to know which classes in GW2 has a strong DoT potential ?
If you are level 17, and in a level 17 zone (eg: so you are not being scaled down to match a starter zone) then … that’s kind of expected.
Don’t worry, you will start having longer lived enemies soon enough. Not that Unload ever stops being strong against a single target, mind you, but it’s hardly the “one shot kill” at 30, let alone 60 — and you much less often face a single target alone at those levels.
At level 17, if you are playing in a zone at that level, you have barely walked out of “none of the mobs will attack you unless you hit them first” stage of what is, in essence, the tutorial to teach you how to play assuming you are new to MMOs and never played one before.
If you played other MMOs, try pushing forward to a 15-30 zone at 17, and aim to be out of there by 30 at the absolute latest. Don’t do everything, do a few bits here and there and keep moving forward until you get the challenge you are looking for.
Anyway, to answer your question about DoT style classes — most everything can, but I’d guess that maybe scepter necromancer (without minions), scepter guardian, or scepter/focus mesmer would be good choices.
Be aware of this, though: at level 17, the raw power damage from your scepter on any of those classes will knock down many enemies. Seriously, it’s still at the point that they are pretty darn weak, so that you don’t face a vertical wall if you never played an MMO before, so someone with greater skill….
An assertion failure like that is some sort of … not exactly bug, but “this is impossible” problem inside the game client.
Assuming you can reproduce it with DPS meters, reshade style graphics things, etc, removed, then submit the full crash report to anet.
You might also try the standards, repair on the client, ensure drivers are up to date, etc. (Because a corrupted asset of some sort could lead to an “impossible” situation happening.)
FWIW, that completion is actually the “original” lake doric map — the one that “leaked”, and that got scrapped before the game launched. The new lake doric also rewards on completion.
Not just a hero point, but a “commune with this …” hero point. The one near the salvage pit adventure in VB is a good choice.
One player doing or not doing that is not anything significant. What matters is the numbers across the playerbase — and that’s something ANet will know, but never tell us.
You’re not wrong, but the thread literally asks if we’re happy with the change, so I answered that question for the only person for whom I can speak: myself. As far as this change goes, I will go from never buying this ascended gear to still never buying this ascended gear. I would be very surprised if I were the only one.
Sorry, you are absolutely right. I should not have said that, because your response is to the topic of the thread.
Is it actually daily? I thought it was just limited to each event cycle.
That is also 5 more useful chests than the other maps….
Yeah, you can do it twice in a reset period and get loot twice. It’s effectively a counter that says “you may only open X chests after killing the vine”, where X is the number found on a single map.
The answer must be “mesmer”, since that’ll always be the one that people list to avoid when the reverse is asked.
However, truth be told, if you want challenge while levelling you really need to push hard to get to zones several levels above you. The core tyria experience is, honestly, relatively easy IF you have played other MMOs, and have reasonable experience with the genre.
Anyway, if you play non-ranger, and avoid minion necromancer, pretty much everything else involves some amount of beating stuff up yourself. I suspect that pistol/pistol or dagger/dagger thief would work well for you.
Unproductive, but accurate. Ah, well, at least it makes the forums of every other MMO familiar, because you can read the exact same list of wishes in them, too.
Not sure if this was mentioned somewhere, but another idea would be to allow us to create/edit/save our own outfits using whatever skins we’ve unlocked. It would ignore the armor type restriction since it’s going over the current armor’s appearance like all other outfits. Depending on how ANET feels about players making “naked outfits”, an outfit might require a skin for each armor piece before it can be created.
The clipping problem would still be there, but it would be up to the player to either deal with it or modify the outfit to select skins that won’t clip (or have less pronounced clipping).
And how do you imagine that they create the tech for creating an outfit stitched together from any other skins, without solving the underlying tech problems?
There was a thread a while back suggesting costume like panels for the 2 other armor weights where you could slot one different armor weight on each “costume” panel and that would appear instead of your regular armor. No mixing and matching between the weights.
So, a light armor would have a heavy armor “costume” panel and a medium armor “costume” panel that they could select wardrobe skins for and wear on top of their armor.
I would certainly not call it a “need” but I would pay for this.
I second this. Would definitely pay.
FWIW, “I would pay for X” is rarely convincing to developers, in part because many people who say they would turn out, if it actually happens, not to. It’s better just to say that, yes, you would love this, and let them work out the economics of how they sell it.
Don’t I recall them also saying that axe being “at range, but not a ranged weapon” in the sense that it doesn’t get blocked by projectile things, etc, was kind of regrettable from their pov?
so is scepter on ele and its currently meta, so argument invalid
That’s certainly a fair counter to that. I actually kind of like the idea of axe being more used, btw, just wasn’t that hopeful…
Yesterday i got kicked on my ele from group on Gorse because we did no updraft and instead of afking during cc phase i dropped some damage in, but our druid refused to heal me so i got kicked for going down and was told to not dps Gorse + all other “nice” things in direction verbal harassment.
I join another group (accidentally ended up with couple ppl i killed deimos with on first week) and we cleared all 4 wings without much a problem in one evening (ca. 3 hours?)…. This is gw2 raiding community for you. And this happens all the time, one group just flames and blames 24/7, i join other and we clear wings quickly and without any issues~That’s why raids are meant to be played in static groups as advertised. Nobody said it would be easy or going without problems in pugs. That hasn’t worked out for pugs in fractals and especially not when dungeons were the end content. Seriously, the raiding pug community is less toxic than the dungeon pug community was.
^^^^^^ this. so very much this.
- If all you cared about was the gold cost, the new system is at least cheaper.
- The new system, however, still doesn’t sink a lot of the Fractals currency.
- I wanted to buy ascended gear through Fractals specifically to avoid crafting, since I use those crafting materials for other things.
All in all, the net sum of their changes is that they spent a lot of effort and rebalanced those systems, and I’m still never going to buy a single piece of ascended gear that way. I think they missed the mark pretty heavily.
One player doing or not doing that is not anything significant. What matters is the numbers across the playerbase — and that’s something ANet will know, but never tell us.
We can only infer from what they do in three to nine months. If this remains, they are happy with how it performs so far. If it changes, we can guess at what might have not worked to encourage it.
Full agreement with the statements in this thread. If a collection item can’t be sold or handed in, don’t make it an actual item in the inventory. Pointless clutter is just annoying.
I can pretty much promise that if it was trivial to do that within the capabilities of the engine, the developers would do so. Which they have not, so we can infer: not so easy as it sounds, I guess. :/
New Player, Sad Player. Expansion ruined it.

It’s not your job, dude. It’s anets job to conduct focus groups and do marketing tests. It’s you job to either play the game or dont. It’s incredibly naive for anyone here to attempt to draw any sort of conclusions about anythjng in game from NC soft quarterlies.
So much this!
PS: if any of these people were that good at knowing how to make an MMO profitable and successful, there are plenty of well funded companies absolutely happy to hear your pitch about how you can do better than their current folks at earning them the big $$$
Mesmer and Thief are the evergreen darlings of GW2. Pick one, play it forever and never fear the nerfbat again!
Isn’t the elementalist? Or PS warrior? or … wait, guess everyone gets nerfs every now and then…
FWIW, you can absolutely purchase the episodes for in-game gold (via gem conversion), so you don’t have to spend more real world money to eventually be able to go back and get them.
You forgot the Auto Play mastery. Just build a golem that plays the game for us. We can then login once a year to see how we’re doing.
You made me smile, but there’s a nugget in truth in there.
Clearly, this is the future of MMOs, beating all others: http://progressquest.com/
It’s obviously an indie, though, not an AAA game like gw2 is. You’d have a much shinier progress bar if anet released it!
