If you like TP flipping then that is great! I have absolutely no issues with people that do. I was a power trader in GW1 and made a ton of ecto/armbraces from it. The issue is that I wasn’t the only source of the item. My Req 9 Crystalline could be purchased through online auctions and a myriad of other players which helped dictate supply and demand. In GW2 everything is centralized and supply and demand is dictated through a monopolisation. It would have been hard for a player to buy every Req 9 Crystalline in GW1 but in GW2 it is a few clicks of the mouse.

You talk about investment, what about investment into the game? Being good at PvP and WvW nets you nothing and we’ve already discussed PvE.
That is indeed the crux of the issue here. What takes the most skill typically yields the smallest rewards. Just look at WvWvW for a good example of this. If you go around skirmishing and taking key points with a small group you’re really just hurting yourself since mindlessly zerging around in a massive group will net you far more. But I digress as that’s the topic of another thread.
Players shouldn’t be encouraged to sit in Lion’s Arch and price gouge in order to make a profit. Players should be encouraged to on grand adventures and explore the world. This needs fixing.
This post just explained the “spirit” of the thread completely.

The greater the gap between the in-game poor and rich, the more money ANet will make from gems-to-gold transactions.
Ergo, nothing will be done. Move along.
Remember, we all started equal. Through luck, skill and time the top crust emerges. Of course, sometimes it is pure dumb luck but hey in the real world it is the same thing.
Don’t forget unpunished exploits.

Price Gouging
Definition:
Pricing above the market price when no alternative retailer is available. The price gouging of items by the hoarders who control the market is the complete definition of price gouging. Since players cannot obtain items through another retailer(TP) this adds to the conclusion.
Your definition is wrong as when there is no alternative retailer, where is the so called “market” price?
There is no such thing as gouging.
Go read your economic 101 and see supply and demand chapter.
Market price is set by those who have control or monopoly over the item. There are 0 alternative retailers. Thus the market is cornered. Supply is limited and demand is high but there is massive gouging on the TP, you cannot deny that.
I have played the TP and made money but it is unethical to corner a market and gouge.
Has this become SpreadSheetWars2 a game of monopolization or GW2 a fantasy game of skill? I am starting to think the sales of MS Office with Excel will go up 2%, would you recommend I buy MS stocks?

There needs to be established market values for everything in the game.
Not dictated by the players who have free reign to price gouge the playerbase.
Price gouging runs rampant with high end items to the point of ridiculousness and makes the rich only richer. Now we get to the crux of your point, you are jelly.
I am not Jelly. I have money. I have power traded. I just think that it is wrong. Read the definition I posted about price gouging.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
If you want to make the most gold you will need to invest.
Sure you can make gold, but it’s not comparable. TP Flipping is the way to go, you can GRIND cof p1 but soon that will be stopped.
You talk about investment, what about investment into the game? Being good at PvP and WvW nets you nothing and we’ve already discussed PvE.
Obtaining a precursor for example is blind luck or having to pay TP Flippers over inflated prices for the privilege. Where’s the legendary in that? Nothing.
Inb4: Don’t like the system around TP Flipping, don’t get involved. Sure, but your missing the point. GW2 the game of spreadsheets? Please. TP Flippers have too much power over the market as it is.
You are however right about the game should be fun.
Time is not an investment, it is an expense. If you want to maximize your gold per hour you have to make your gold do the work which means buying and selling on the market. That is the way it is in real life and that is the way it is in GW2. Spending time on less profitable ventures like WvW, PvP, or PvE is what people who enjoy WvW, PvP, or PvE do. People who enjoy making money spend their time playing the market.
If I was to sell an item that is only available from me in real life for a %200 markup, I would be charged under federal law for price gouging. It is easy to take the real life scenarios that are positive towards your point but disregard the ones that are unethical and wrong.

While I like dailies as a means of diversifying content for the end users, I am wondering how Anet can possibly think that time gating dungeons is a good idea.
I find that there is really a lack of engaging content as there is and if I like doing a run to make money then why shouldn’t I be able to do it?
This really boils down to laziness and bad coding by the devs, sorry guys but it is true.
Instead of fixing CoF1 which is a high level dungeon to be par with AC P2 which is the first friggen dungeon in the game, they make them all time gated. This is lazy programming and a slap in the face of dungeon runners. I did dungeons in GW1 for the fun of them and made some profit but I was not limited AT ALL to experiencing content that I enjoyed.
I think that this next patch will result in alot of uninstalls since the only way to make money now in this game is to play SpreadSheetWars2 with the TP.
What happened to “play they way you want to play”. Perhaps the devs need a poster of the manifesto on ALL of their walls since they seem to be slowly tossing it to the wayside.

intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
The golden GW2 machine would be a tri core CPU running at 5.5ghz.
The devs failed to realize that parallel computing would take place instead of raw clocks. The game is designed to have many multiple people in heavy fights in WvW, the issue is that the game and the servers cannot handle it.
When you have modern 4 core 8 thread and higher CPU’s being bottlenecked by a game that is not fully utilizing its’ resources then you have a major issue. It won’t matter if I buy that new 12 core 24 core or 100 core CPU.
Future technology will have 0 bearing in any performance increase in GW2 without optimization and rewriting of the code.

ASRock is a good make but you can also go with Asus or MSI, just do some research on your particular board.
Your system looks good. Even my system and those with higher overclocks than I do will get drops in WvW T1 zergs, there isn’t anything that you can do about it really.

Entertain me, why would your processor running faster decrease performance, unless you have clocked it to the point where it is unstable (Which shouldn’t happen with the processors you buy overclocked)? I’m a year away from calling myself a software engineer, I know a thing or two, so don’t be scared of getting dirty with details.
That I can’t answer, since I am NOT a software engineer, I simply remember many issues turning up earlier on (and might still do) on overclocked machines (and taking a swift look on the thread posted earlier here many of those that are actually having issues DO have overclocked stuff, so it is fully possible that the issue might lie somewhere there for some reason.)
There was a portion of the beta period where the game was being “optimized”. During that timeframe the devs’ recommended that you place all your hardware at stock so they can get an accurate metric of how their work was progressing. To my knowledge there was never a time when underclocking or running at stocks meant better performance, this was simply to get accurate data.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
While GW2 is CPU bound it is also CPU limited. The client does not use multithreading or use more than 3 heavy threads during operation. Thus, the game is limited as a previous poster mentioned to a tri-core CPU with 5-6ghz being the sweet spot. Anet’s implementation of an engine with high CPU draw with no room for ever advancing beyond 2007 standards is apparent in the design. The game’s predominantly relies on high amounts of users on the same map which of course the engine and servers cannot handle. Using an old API does not help but is not the main factor.
Try doing a T1 WvW zerg and toss all the settings down to their lowest. You will not see much of a difference in FPS at all. This is due to the server on Anet’s side not being able to handle the information it is sending and receiving.
TL,DR= It is both the client and serverside causing issues atm. Since client is apparently out of the question we, as a group can only hope that the issues be rectified serverside.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
Even though you’re using a laptop you should be getting better frames than that. Is heat becoming an issue? Are all the drivers up to date? What are the FPS when looking at the mystic toilet in LA and do changing settings in the UI make a difference?

The use of DX9 was probably because that the GW1 engine was used for GW2, albeit highly modified.
DX11 would make the game run better without adding in tesselation or other eye candy effects.
There were rumblings that GW2 would also be brought to consoles as well(which would explain using DX9 as well as only 3 heavy threads for the engine).
If there is a DX11 update I would welcome it from the stance that it would improve performance for this game.
GW2 in my opinion is a kinda next gen mmo. They haven’t pushed the envelope in any technical category that I can think off. This will be a next gen MMO:
http://vimeo.com/57829622Realize that this video is Beta and not completely finished. The game will also have large scale PVP and PVE battles with 0 performance impact. Aside from the texture pop the game looks beautiful, especially the character models.
I doubt that GW2 will ever have DX11 implemented but I certainly would welcome it.
wow dat looked impressive, when is it coming out? Reminds me of Dragon’s Dogma combat system which i liked a lot. Or is this another generic 30 hotkeys spam fest mmo?
The game is currently in Beta in South Korea but the devs are looking for a North American publisher and estimates for release are sometime in 2014-early 2015
It is an action oriented combat system much like GW2. I am not sure about anything more regarding the combat system but the game looks amazing.
Player houses, large scale battles, rich crafting and political system and pretty much anything that you could want.
Personally I would pay $20 a month for a game that meets all of those criteria and more, not to mention look beautiful in the process.

Some games do utilize i7’s full potential and with the new consoles coming out shortly I would suspect that more PC games will be using multithreading. Currently, to my knowledge Battlefield 3 and Crysis 3 both take advantage of the i7’s threads.
My logic when investing in a new PC is longevity and making that hardware last for as long as possible. I would go with the Haswell i7 4770k for sure. That extra money has the possibility to make your PC last substantially longer.
GPU side, another poster mentioned that the industry is rather stagnant and that is correct. We really haven’t seen a massive increase in performance generationally(usually about 10-15%).
PSU is very important and make sure you get a 80+ bronze or higher, even for budget systems. Also make sure you get a reliable manufacturer. XFX and Corsair are relatively stable brands.
Aftermarket cooling is very important as well. The Kraken is a nice cooler but make sure you have a case that will fit it. H80i and H100i are good. I have never had a problem with heat on my H100i and my OC never gets to 80c under folding.

intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
The issue is the engine itself and the use of Umbra occlusion. GW2 uses a modified GW1 engine that utilizes 3 heavy threads. GW2 cannot handle large scale events with a large amount of people. Compound that with Umbra occlusion technology not working as advertised and you have a significant problem.
I don’t think that there is really anything except minor tweaks unless they figure out how to occlude the world sea reflections underground or rewrite the engine.

WvW zergs will drop any system not matter what the specs. I have found that even world events with a large amount of people will drop down to the 20’s.
Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to matter too much what settings you use ingame during those large events. It is a combination of the client and Anet servers not being able to handle the data.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
Jorlag isnt worth the reward imo. Why are all the events rewarded the same no matter what the difficulty of time spent?
Most bosses are just sit and hit and have little mechanics. Jorlag is one of the few that is actually well done from a gameplay point of view.

They should at least make other drops remotely exciting. It’s either a legendary or some kitten skin, the only inbetween are skins that cost 400g and in that case you might as well buy a precursor.
I agree 100%
There are no middle ground rare weapons that are cool looking and cost about 200g ish.
For many there is nothing left to do but to forge a legendary weapon, but the anger stems from not being able to reasonably get one without a) gambling in the toilet, b) uber lucky drop, c) Run CoF1 till your eyes bleed.
There is also the nice achievement panel when you log in to remind you that you have that space empty and you will never ever be able to fill it without doing a,b or c.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
There are at this point in time 7 TOTAL dusks available for sale ingame with the price at over 700gold. WTF. I am sick of this bullkitten and I know that I will NEVER get a legendary without GRINDING COF1.
WOW, after 1000+ hours I have only seen one legendary precursor drop and that was in beta.
Some people have gotten 3+ drop for them and I am sick of RNG bullkitten inhibiting something that I am aiming for. I have everything else except the precursor and I am NOT GRINDING COF1 for the 700 gold that I need. How is that fun? What a crappy game.
And to all those people who say tough kitten? GW1 had significantly higher odds at getting something that was of value. GW2 is nickel and kittening dime until you can afford something. There is no risk vs reward content so I am stuck doing the same meta events for a year…gg.

I agree 100% with the OP. I just started to do more WvW(since I find there nothing much else to do) and I was also trying to get badges for my legendary. It took me a few months on and off to get one stack which gave me the incentive to continue to do WvW.
In one fell swoop I have my gift, another stack and then some. What am I supposed to do with them now? I still do WvW for the fun of it but I feel that the “free” badges lessens those who earned them through the game itself.

in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Stormcrow.7513
The biggest improvement that you could find in GW2 is overclocking that 2500k. What kind of cooling do you have?
A 6850 will be ok for GW2 med/high settings. If you do decide to upgrade your GPU, the GTX 760 is a solid choice. One thing you should know is that your PSU usually needs 30A from the 12v rail that powers the GPU. The recommended system requirements for that GPU is 500w so you should be ok. I would just make sure that your PCIe rail(s) can handle it.
