Isn't PvE supposed to be easy?

Just getting from point a to point b?

Doing events when no one’s around?

Soloing mobs no matter what class you are? (Play as you want to play)

While group content is supposed to be hard? HoT failed because the entire expansion is a group expansion. Nothing at all was aimed for individual players who play an hour or two a day. (Which is individuals with full time jobs, girlfriend, friends)

Raids and fractals are wonderful for people who have time for them. Anymore though the game feels like one giant raid.

Anet….even though a lot of people may like it you truly did fail. Why? Because you killed guild wars for what it’s been from the very start of release. I truly hope the next expansion makes it worth coming back.

Cya in eso till then

It is a matter of taste. If you liked the relaxed atmosphere that was GW2 in the past, it has changed significantly in the amount of grinding you need to do, for less rewards. If however you like the new “challenge” of waiting for meta events to pop and doing raids you will like it.

Most of my casual guild only logs in for the dailies now and to do a bit of the festival. If you left due to boredom with a casual atmosphere then you might like it now, but I see less players when I do log in.

WvW is for all intent and purposes dead unless you like to do the T1 mega zerg thing. PvP seems to be doing well enough, well at least I think it is judging by the amount of yellow, green and blue tags I have seen.

Ultimately you need to be the judge.

Pretty much spot on. I personally left myself due to the fact the games become rather frustrating.

Tons more grind for a lot lesser of a reward. I personally went to eso where the grinding is actually worth something.

Just wait until you reach champion points part. If people thought mastery was grindy, try ESO champion points, It drove me insane.

Lol I love them! They truly are not a major major advantage which is why I like them. Just by playing you get a little better at a time. They aren’t truly required but makes playing always worth while because there is always something to work towards

I tried ESO

Firstly this isn’t a come play eso and quit gw2 or vice versa for anyone who sees this from Google.

Just really got into eso and wanted to share my thoughts to you all.

The world.
Ok gw2 wins this hands down, eso world was a little bland feeling to me the way it was designed. Gw2 is much more vibrant and in a way felt more open to me even though the zones are a quarter of the size. Everything in gw2 was amazing to explore while in eso it felt more like “eh I’ll go over there if a quest needs me to”.

Crafting
Eso kinda crushed crafting in any game I’ve ever played. Basically crafting is fun and rewarding. Basically you craft things, compared to gw2 what you craft is just stats (no bersekers or valk or knights) but there is set crafting like the tunes from gw2. Then upgrade the color up to legendary from anything you make.

Questing
Gw2 has hearts, while eso has hundreds of fully voiced quests. I loved the quests as I felt like I was accomplishing something. The long quests with chains are amazing to. The main story in both games was rather boring, gw2 slightly better though in my opinion.

Combat
Gw2 really managed to perfectly capture action style combat between the dodges and targeting and using abilities which trigger right away smoothly while in eso things felt a little clunky

Abilities
Gw2 fell very short here. Weapons determine your skills which was always a nightmare, you couldn’t select what you wanted. Every guardian with a greatsword is using the exact same five skills. In eso each class has there own lines you can pick from, then level each skill, then actually morph them and pick options what else you may want it to do.

Mounts
Eso

Gear treadmill
Neither REALLY has one. Eso has been out a year and a half and only increased the max level by 2, gear change was kinda like going from exotic to ascended.

Pvp
I’m not much of a pvp player but I’d say it’s about the same

I really loved both games a lot. The only main difference for me though was each day I feel like logging into eso there is something to do that will actually help progress my character, but still upon reaching max level and getting good gear I don’t need to log in though daily still like I used to have to do in ff14 for daily dungeons.

Gw2 vs eso vs ff14 vs wow

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sylent.3165

So something I wanted to bring up….

Gw2 was by far the best of these games in my opinion. It was a blast for the average joe player logging in, playing how you wished as long as you wanted and logging out. HoT ruined gw2 in many ways.

One reason many people don’t like eso or ff14 is that dreaded gear treadmill. It kinda stinks, you farm hours and hours for weeks for that new weapon or armor to grow stronger, then the next expansion hits and you do it again. That’s why I left ff14 to come back to this game.

But now gw2 is worse. Why?? Because when you farm and farm for such a long time and get that amazing new armor you feel extremely accomplished in the end. But with gw2 you log in to farm masteries? There is no sense of any accomplishment. Your better off now in the other games doing the same exact farm to actually get something.

I’m sorry anet but you tried to follow other games ways which was wrong, but you also did it wrong. Should of just made made more maps like SW, added the elite specs, made A longer story, made worthwhile rewards, killed the mastery system, and kept up with living world season come February

It’s very sad….

I’m currently installing eso again. Gw2 was just the most amazing game ever for what it actually was. But now it’s basically making a wow, eso, ff14 clone but not as good.

Cya all until we get crystal desert! Or something else that’s outside the jungle hopefully worth doing like drytop and SW.

The issues this expansion.

They added so much, but there is nothing to do.

Rewards are extremely lackluster. Only point to log into new maps is just farming and farming and farming events just to level masteries.

Elite specs are really all that was worth doing and being rewarded for. No awesome armor worth farming for even. I played about three weeks of expansion and I’m just to bored to log back in.

They took the game in the wrong direction for many players

Why play expansion?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sylent.3165

This is not a hate thread first off it is a real question.

My question is what’s the point of HoT?

When we had dry top there was the fun events going on and people doing them farming for weapon skins and loot.

Then we got SW my most favorite thing from an mmo ever. The excitement of getting to your favorite base, then getting into your favorite lane for a boss fight then the chests and the Pac man it was all great, plus the chest farms.

These new maps? What’s the point of doing the meta chain more then once? And a TWO hour long meta event is crazy long for people that work. Not only is it way too long, but what’s the point? There are no real rewards other then some achievements. People who are still playing these new maps I’m curious what’s your incentive to keep going back?

For the first time I feel I need a break and haven’t logged in for weeks as I see no purpose to anymore and that kinda makes me sad

Sylent.3165

Well….I’ve been playing only herald sense HoT launch.

The only thing I truly feel needs changed is sword 2. Needs a longer chill time. Hammer 2. Cooldown really should be 4 or 5 seconds.

Many complain about UA because it’s new and scary but fine in my opinion.

Overall besides understeer combat I find this class to be very balanced. Just a revenant though needs a lot of buffs, I truly feel herald is needed to play the class which is a bit of a shame

Best map completion class.

I have tried on a ranger, warrior, guardian, and necromancer and always get extremely bored fast.

I am currently doing it on a Herald and so far I’m having the best time doing it with the perma swiftness, and simply the playstyle fits me nearly perfect so is making it a lot more fun.

Map completion will always be the easiest on the class you enjoy the most in my opinion as you need to actually enjoy doing it. Why get map completion on a class you don’t like if you won’t play it much? But if you want just 100% completion to say you unlocked it thief is easy with the mobility and cloaking

Any news on underwater additions?

I agree, it’s really annoying, as a power herald it’s very annoying everything that has to do with underwater combat.

Only 2 legends is very annoying, 2 which I don’t even use.

Always having to swap legends manually underwater and back on land.

I set my 2 skill as my auto attack so have to spam 1 while at range on keyboard it’s annoying.

Underwater was just rushed, I understand underwater combat they gave up on in the game as it was kinda bleh, but we really should have had just a melee weapon and a ranged weapon that’s condition

Dealing with a revenant

in PvP

Posted by: Sylent.3165

Sylent.3165

1. Play the class. Get a feel for it, understand it’s not the strongest skill in the game(UA). Understand it also hits other enimies greatly reducing damage to you.

2. Learn to play. Simply losing to a new skill doesn’t make it over powered. Losing to any skill or class in 99.9% of cases should be a learning experience.

3. What is UA? a high single target damage ability on a 12 second cooldown. As most good pvpers will tell you, they count in there head. Do a slow 12 second countdown in your head to time the next one coming. Many classes have high damage attacks on smaller cooldowns.

4. How to beat UA. Retaliation works wonders, as does blocks, and a simple double dodge will make nearly all a revenants damage go bye bye. You then have 12 seconds to take them down, watch for there heal, lay off for 3 seconds and finish them.

My biggest suggestion to people complaining about the class and UA is stop coming on the forums complaining, deal with it. It’s new and scary feeling however the class is truly in a good spot.

Remember this forum exploding after ranger longbow skill 2 received a buff that WAS needed? It’s not a topic anymore because people learned how to deal with it as they will with revenant.

So far below all the level 80 zones I’m doing map completion full ascended valkyrie armor, everything else zerker running glint/jalis.

No issues with anything including champions. Knowing when to use glint heal or shield skills mixed in with the nice damage I’ve been crushing.

Heavy condition enimies are really the only issue with revenant as we have very few ways to remove them in a timely matter

Run 2 speed run dungeons
Log out.

Or there version of a raid once a week/primal battle if needed.

Eso
Ok actually from an mmo perspective not elder scrolls view this game was fantastic, but they had veteran ranks which simply just require way too much time.

GW2 did so well because it’s perfect to hop in and out any time you please, never have to worry about your weapons or armor, and even in a quick 20 minute play you can get something done between some map completion, a world boss, story, or a few events. The game just really shined for me

During the beta week everyone here was super hyped up! What names and races did you all pick? Is everything living up to your hype?

I ended up with a sylvari named Droid.

I’m loving sword auto attack got used to the animations, started getting some use with my 2 skill in mobs and starting fights. Still loving UA for single target damage. I love finally having a shield on a class I use, shield 4 is great in events to throw down before a big attack to help group with a heal, shield 5 I personally love as I can save some endurance, use before big attacks and get a heal.

Loving my perma fury and swiftness lots, plus facet of strength to start fights for 20 stacks of vulnerability. Switching to Jalis for heal and the hammers helps a lot in uh oh situations.

Good bye you slow moving guardian and hello glint!

You all enjoying?

You’re literally too lazy to click a toggel sometimes?… I mean, it’s less often then doing swiftness or gs3 on a guard.

It’s really nbd. Quit being lazy.

Well firstly I spent $50 for it to work.

Second nothing to do with “lazy”. There is no cooldown or any indicators that it’s off hard to notice as your just trying to play the game.

I prefer guardian gs3 and retreat as they work as intended and have visible cooldowns going on easy to see. But sure how you can call me lazy, because a few skills broke

Ok. Firstly play a revenant. I’m rather tired of the complaints because another PLAYER is better then you not a class.

For crying out loud double dodge UA, hop into reaper/death shroud. Drop a well.

Wait…..your a necromancer……you do realize revenant is extremely weak to every single condition don’t you? Do you not have a single poison to crush there heal? No way to cause chill or bleeding?

Don’t blame another class. I myself have played revenant, and I have played against them. They are new to the game, it truly is a learn to play issue.

Once you get past UA which is on a 12 second cooldown I see no reason why they are a true threat.

“the need for us to push forward on solving some of the issues of visibility in combat become even more important for the future of Guild Wars 2. This also helps us tremendously in areas like WvW and open-world PvE, where visibility is currently the most challenging. The same goes for the need to help better support spectating content so that players who aren’t at the highest tier of competition in those areas can watch and learn from players whose builds and strategies can help them become successful.

We’ve already done some work to improve combat visibility with the ship of the expansion, but over the course of the next few months, we’ll continue to make a number of updates to allow the action-based combat of Guild Wars 2 to shine."

Drop some conditions on a rev dead.

Dodge, block, retaliation for UA.

If they use glint heal it’s 100% the enimies choice if they themselves heal the rev.

Crystal Hibernation. Extremely noticeable skill, that does not proc anything on blocking, and let’s you know exactly when to attack them.

Phase Traversal. 5 second CD now no one can complain about that facing a rev.

Hammer 2 and 3 skill, just stand slightly elevated on a hill it will miss you.

Really the only thing a revenant has going for them in pvp vs a semi educated pvper is the strong auto attack. I have no idea why people would complain about us in pvp when it’s clearly a L2P issue. Everyone hates fighting new classes because it’s new so if they die to the class it’s obviously op.

I really hope the balancing team doesn’t take this garbage seriously. If we get nerfed we would be kinda useless in pvp all together

Just curious. I’m this game a majority of the players are doing pve, yet all balancing is for pvp? I understand the leagues and the qq’s every single person makes because if someone kills them, the class is obviously to strong

I remember in gw1 they each were balanced seperate, why is that not the case in this game? By balancing for pvp only classes such as thief become not as useful in pve. I fear the same is coming for revenant and DH which will then make them kinda be useless in pve settings for things.

So my question is, why aren’t they balanced seperate? How hard could it really be to do?

There are a couple mushrooms like charging mushrooms, and stomping mushrooms, spearheads, and a lot of Champions you do not want to go in melee range with.

Plus a lot of events get scaled up and certain things can destroy you in melee rather fast such as teragriffs. I would say if you are really really good you would survive, but ranged is highly recommended
