I should have known better.
Not long ago it was very possible for 15 people to defend a T3, fully sieged keep against a huge blob. Arrow carts were the main part of such defence.
But now ACs are virtually useless. Now you can’t defend anything if you are outnumbered because ACs can’t reach rams.
Thanks then for making karma train blobbing even more easy peasy effortless.
It was also possible for a large zerg to kill all defensive siege with 1 offensive AC. Let’s not kid ourselves and pretend ACs were perfect before. Higher walls seems to be a fix for this in HoT. I hope if /when (hopefully when!) they bring back alpine borderlands, they make all the walls much higher and thicker.
what it came down was knowledge and organization. when the ktrain blob comes around its unlikely they were in ts and just throw siege randomly. if the defenders were properly prepared the mindless blob would be forced to pull off more often than not
if a group using good communication arrives, scouts around and realizes they need to desiege first they will probably take the tower. that is the difference.
after this change I disbanded the defense team on my server, the scout network quickly crumbled right after. we incorporated all kinds of players of every level of skill who just wanted to play and contribute to the server.
if you dont fight, blob or pvd you rly have no place in wvw now. this change was very bad for small servers trying to organize and fight the larger populations.
BW2 I was successfully using the skill 5 nearly every attempt but in BW3 it rarely pulled the target. Could have just been user error bur maybe others had trouble getting it to work?

Its alrdy been used alot. Theres just thousands of invis walls everywhere. I found that one at south hills like the day after they put it about 4 months ago. Finding map break outs is a hobby of mine.
If it makes you feel better engi can still jump into garri.
Edit: theres an invis wall under the inner bridge in hills. Drop under to the narrow ledge and try to walk south, you canf target through it either. I wonder how long thats been there?

There rly isnt comparison class. The aoe is strong but not alot of it. Rev felt great to play and rewards experienced players. It might be hard for the novice to use to the fullest.
Imo the main thing rev lacks is a way to pressue and desiege walls in wvw.
Siege thrown has longer despawn timer.
over all great video, good taste in music, excellent display of sustain and fighting under pressure. you dont seem very comfortable with the mortar kit, combo field usage needs a little polish.
Im worried about it getting nerfed.

Well every class hits like a truck in full zerk.
A month or two after HoT releases ppl are going to start looking at other builds. Imagine a ventari spec with cleric amulet as point bunker in spvp. I also tried the new raid dungeon on monday and it worked great there too.
there is a lot of unrealized potential when combined with all those useless ascended magi and cleric drops we been hoarding in our banks.
I also worry that if they try add more to it like increase radius or split the utilities with absent tablet functions they will feel the need to reduce the current tablet skills in the name of balance.
look at engi med kit, all that healing looks good on paper but the reality is the functions are too spread out. better to have everything focused down to as few slots as possible.
If Roy can sneak in some extra radius or reduce energy cost with out nerfing it great but I think he knows how this gonna pan out too. ventari is good at what it does.
Or they might just nerf it to make druids feel better.

I thought I was doing pretty well on my rev, killed some chronomancers even but they were using shatter variants. then I came across a real chrono who hit me with the shield wave and started world war 3 on my face. I felt pretty inadequate on my puny rev after that.
I played SH on my rev all sunday and there was seriously about 4 rangers in every game. I kinda imagine alot of the complaints are from those rangers who tried to pewpew through field of the mists while eating big CR crits. then they try to gs leap away only to realize theres no running from shiro, turn to rapid fire into my UA and die.

have you nvr been hit with a 10k dragon tooth or 6.8k meteor shower tics? zerk necro wells pulse at 4k and death shroud AA 6k also pierces.
rev dmg seems on par with the rest of the crap flying around in wvw. this vid is not rly the rev dmg, your running in a group catching all kinds of might and class buffs then the execute trait adding on 20% dmg to targets under half hp. those big crits were probably on up lvls too.
theres something buggy with facet of nature. where I noticed a similar issue is swapping from glint to shiro for a quickness stomp, Impossible Odds is locked out.
if any facet is active theres a delay before Impossible Odds is rdy, but if Facet of nature is active it nvr becomes available.

why would you run around in centaur stance any way? you dont just precast you 6 heal before going into combat do you? its a fall back and recover bring out the utility stance.
even if you dont wanna run herald for swiftness you can get jalis and smacks some combos or just push 9 in shiro.

projectiles are affected by character height. for example I was in arah dungeon and the group stacked up behind a low wall. everyone was attacking over it just fine but my little asura kept getting obstructed.
Im not sure how that this relates to brutal blade though, Charr are pretty tall but the npc he was attacking spams blinds. then at the end he moves to the side where all his attacks connect with target.
I was not able to casually reproduce this on target golems.
ventari is just fantastic in wvw
although you are right about the utilities being dead when the tablet is not active. however the tablet summon has no CD, just pull it out again immediately.
plz no more light fields! whirl or projectile finishers in light fields for condi clear dont work. I say this as a former engi main. light fields are terrible.
I think its a known bug by now that if you get taunted while you have resistance boon, every enemy turns yellow, stays yellow and you can not attack them… ever again.

my testing had MDF entries consistently showing for the instances I mentioned. Then I thought about the mesmer trait I mentioned which does not list in the combat log and perhaps similir problem. also make sure you have outgoing healing setup in your combat log ofc.
best way to test would be calc expected values and have your fellow testing helper look for green numbers pop on screen.
I also had some instances of small anomalous MDF heals which I wasnt able to ID the source.
I tested it like 30m ago. when you use healing turret and cleansing burst, you will see a single heal by medical dispersion field. if it worked you would see 2 entries.
edit: I suppose theres the possibility that the rest of MDF heals simply arent listed in the combat log

@Ricky – it appears you didnt test actual functionality or even read this thread
if youre packing alot of healing power youre probably also at full hp which means MDF would add 666hp with healing turret self heal part and nothing else, not even cleansing burst.
heres a quick vid I made trying to use the med kit throw bandages on some random unsuspecting player in hotm. he manages to skillfully avoid about 3/4ths of them…
I think it was said on the twitch con stream MDF would not work with regen boon, I had no expectations that it would so I didnt even think it was worth mentioning.
I read somewhere that backpack regenerator actually applies an invisible boon. Im thinking MDF doesnt work with any boon healing.
doesnt work with soothing detonation either.
best results are with bandage self or elixir h but just cleansing burst will provide more group healing anyway.
if you want group heals and theres no ele’s available, better to bring a mesmer with restorative mantras. their trait heals for 2600 and has a larger radius.
med kit was nvr meant to be competitive. its great at low lvl and dont have access to good traits which later replace all the boons this kit provides.
Great at low levels? Does the 4-healing-per-tick make that big a difference when just starting out?

did some quick testing on medical dispersion field
doesnt work with cleansing burst, but does proc from healing turret (the first self heal)
the pulse heals like super elixir and elixir shell proc MDF do not work if you are at full health. the engi has to be low on hp to get the heal.
I think blast heals are the same way, only proc’ing MDF if hp can be restored to the engi, no proc if blasting water at full hp. dont have time to full test this right now.
I tested AMR once with healing turret, both heals were reset but it still has the problem of needing to be hit under the 5k hp threshold to proc.
a while back the devs said they would nvr interfere with wvw like standing in capture rings and now youve gone and snitched on him!
theyll probably make him go program quaggan dancing as punishment now.
its not like anet is gonna suddenly realize…

Ive heard a lot of excited talk from ppl who’ve nvr played engi before and wanna give it a try. Then the long time engi players saying; isnt this kinda bad?
It seems to me engi is probably the least played of all the classes and these changes might be intended to draw in multiclass players. Which means, the reason they will nvr rework the elite spec is because establishing an identity is not important if you nvr played it at all. Can you rly say Revenant herald line is all that different?
The ops request is solid, but we are just not the target audience here.

simple solution might be to calculate the los check 3-4 character lengths above the AC. high enough to get a line over the edge below but low enough to not go over walls.
Fine call them roamers or whatever you want. I am defining a different motive. A label creates boundaries seperating one thing from another and aids in understanding. If im wrong let the op say so and we call them… Flying Squirrels or what ever.
Roamers are essential for WvW!
First they can easily solo a camp, no need for the entire zerg to be there.
Second they can act as scouts, informing the commander if they see the enemy zerg or a small enemy group trying to sneak to get something.
And of course third, they can take out enemy zerg stragglers. It’s not the roamer’s fault the stragglers fall behind their zerg, it;s your zerg’s for leaving you behind. And if a roamers takes out 2 or 3 stragglers, when that means a couple fewer enemy players in the enemy zerg.
you misunderstand what roamers actually are, they are akin to gvg guilds. they are in wvw but are not actually a part of it. they dont have any interest in the team aspect of wvw and you are confusing them with havoc players.
this topic is why so many of us miss the old days in the obsidian sanctum. there was a complex map lay out perfect for stalking prey, bait at the end to lure in noobs but no other goal besides kill other players.
its the format that matters, just like spvp want to fight over the sumo rings, gvg wants TDM, the wvw player (does not care much about PPT contrary to popular belief) just wants to fight over towers/keeps in a defender vs attacker scenario.
the roamer wants fair and random as part of their scenario but with out objective. the border land ruins were created for this and they are used occasionally. as many other posters have observed the class imbalances are causing the decline.
I think the desert bl maps will provide a format the roamers will enjoy. everyone is hoping HoT saves this game.

Why do you think fuel is not just a fancy way of saying timed duration? They last for XX seconds and then poof. Cool down, resummon; sounds like pretty standard stuff.
Im the rare commander who makes calls for engi but sadly the few I come across wont get in ts, have no idea how to play the class and are just pure embarrassment.
As an engi main myself Im fully aware of what the class is capable of but honestly its just too much work and risk to continue playing it right now. Get on your mesmers…

let me get this straight… you are complaining that they fixed a bug that you and other “specialists” like you abused for 3 years?
ACs became an issue with the FoV a few months ago. Aiming over the walls works both ways, defenders can counter ACs the same way attackers fire inside the walls.
the way it looks now is that attacking ACs will still have an advantage over defensive ACs because they have blind spots at close range. the attackers can still cover the wall with aoe and clear all siege while the defenders are unable to get LoS directly beneath.
My prediction is that attacking a tower or keep will be building a dozen trebs at max distance and throwing rocks for 30m until a wall breaks. Theres always the standard… just swarm the objective with 50 ppl and 10 omegas method. I dont think anyone is excited about this new type of wvw.

In bronze league, aside from the constant treb war with overlook vs smc and the occasional treb in SWT aimed at bay they dont see much use.
we have an even variety of approaches, everything from soloing towers to golem rushes. theres blobs during NA prime – late. in the off hours theres 5-10s roaming and capping.
in the beta now we tried attacking garri with 10 BP and there were about 5 AR defending. we came in, set up catas, broke the outer wall, cleared all the npcs. AR showed up, when the guards respawned the pushed out and wiped us.
since both sides were not organized or have much experience I think we are pretty equal on this. I dont know if its good or bad, just observing that even 2-1 odds are not enough. maybe this is what anet refers to as… making defense rewarding?
yesterday I solo defended against 10 players and 3 omegas.

The area looks very big but there is a subtle mechanism at work channeling the flow of players. I think we will find certain choke points and cross road very popular. After we become familiar with the usual travel routes the map will feel much smaller.
I sorta imagine that the development team behind this map would have a plan. There would be a design, ebb and flow, give and take; but I cant see it. its like a hodge podge of cool ideas stirred up and dumped into the stew pot to simmer.
There does seem to be one clear intention how ever, to radically change how we play wvw. Like anet said about the elite specs, it should fundamentally change the class.
On my server Im the primary defense commander. Once this map goes live, me and my strategies will become relics. I dont mean, obsolete just cause its a new map.
Sure ppl complained ACs were shooting over walls but I had many clever counter placements to what ever they tried. It can be said it was just a L2P issue but the thing is, I know Im the exception and the average casual doesnt even understand half the things I do.

The NPCs and automated defenses are god awful strong. Try to attack something with 10 players, you dont have much of a chance if even just 1 enemy comes to defend. Small groups have no chance.

Class balance and the concept of accessibility to a majority of players, if you read the forums you would think that 99% of the players are mega pro and able to kill every mesmer they encounter. Your average player simply cannot fight a mesmer and you need to fix this anet.
If anet is going to dumb down every part of wvw so that every scrub feels like they can contribute, you need to also give them better than 0% chance to kill a condi pu mesmer. Not to mention the utter impossibility of thoroughly sweeping after a capture…
Prediction says there will either be map que size blobs attacking objectives or roving gank squads of mesmers with very little in between, if theres players at all. More likely, the difficulty of grinding through the NPCs will deter attackers if theres any defense. They will simply scout for undefended structures and take those instead.
What ever happens, for better or worse, the wvw we came to know and love will die. Something new will grow in its place and in time we may come to enjoy it just as much but this is the end of an era.
