the tool belt skills from the turrets seem pretty good, the turrets themselves usually a wasted slot. theres no build that can rly make use of turrets, they are competing with kits and elixirs for space on your bar.

If you go wvw your engi should be tall for landing mortar shots on walls. Charr or norn are best for this.

We heard you like turrets, so we got you some turrets to go with your turrets.

thatll be my thread title if worse case scenario happens and the drones are a new set of mobile turrets or minions.

there are 15 icons, 5 for each f1-5, 2 for 6-0 deploy and overcharge.

better scenario is the first minor in the forge trait line says something like… all your turrets are now drones; or w/e and there are more new skills yet to be released.

worst idea is to get them the same defenses turrets currently have where they get cleaved and aoe’d to death.

theres no ez middle ground, do you make the drones untouchable but balance with mediocre abilities or actually effective but made of paper mache?

so I thought maybe the drones will be untouchable but shunt dmg from the engi to themselves acting like extra health pool or shields. this idea (in my mind) complements this front line hammer engi who has medium armor/health, limited stability – condi cleanse – stun break, etc… theres no way they could do melee with out a rework.

if it turns out for the worse, theres always berserkers to play instead >.>

you need about 3k power to get good dmg from mortar kit.

the main reasons to use MK
desieging walls
back line pressure
frees up a utility slot if using in place of grenades

The current meta is not fun. Less ppl want to bother with fighting. Wonder why spvp ques are 15m long? Roaming is the domain of condi mesmer and spvp is ruled by 4-5 man ele teams. PvD is more fun than fighting.

lol another gom QQ about not knowing how to defend. like I said in the previous post, gom has been blobbing over bronze for a long time and has nvr needed to learn defense.

your cata spot is super terrible, they could have dealt with this in a number of ways.

sorry to gloat a little bit there. us defenders have to stick together. any gom interested may contact me and I may be persuaded to share some tricks or if any defense minded players just wanna swap notes.

anyway lets play this out, its not just 1 change of the many I suggested. if you have access to siege that is better able to counter attacks, not just ACs for everything, those cheaper catas would get destroyed just as easily.

scenario is durios defense: 20 attackers build 3 catas at the hill on umber side. deploy cannon on top of stairs corner. cluster of catas get destroyed quickly.

currently if you dont alrdy have a treb pre built this situation is a loss. ballis can still counter a cata easily but they are single target and so youll destroy 1, maybe 2, before the wall drops. the cannon spawns at the gate and even if it wasnt destroyed on first pass its still in a useless position.

your defenders boon would just force attackers to hit empty objectives or bring overwhelming numbers.

a simpler idea would be to change mortar and cannon location or let them be placed by players.

its also a fictional world not bound by irl logic. I enjoy the counter play with siege but the biggest impediment to defenders is lack of supply. your not going to arrive late to a tower defense and flash build a treb. usually best hope is throw a disabler and build an AC and that is just annoying to both sides.

my idea is the tower lord dispenses a siege box to the player who deploys it where is best suited to defend. this makes cannons a viable first upgrade rather than standard walls then gate which is just used so you have more time to fire ACs.

reduce cat and treb supply cost by half, reduce AC hits per skill to half, change all mortar skills to ground target and fire with a high arc so they hit closer targets.

but we all know nothing will come of this discussion but we can dream right?

speaking for engi which is supposedly the best mesmer hunting class with 2 reveals using lock on and utility googles, its not so ez. Analyze, which is the tool belt skill that applies reveal is still a projectile which can be blocked and obstructed.

you might note that the PU trait applies aegis quite often which means that 1/2 second they appear they also frequently also have aegis. I was chasing a mes through hills last night and 3 times I tried analyze, 2 were blocked by aegis and the 3rd was simply obstructed when the mesmer was about 600 range in front of me.

thats also not counting bad timing when you attempt analyze and they go stealth at same time but dont get reveal due to millisecond pings.

as for lock on trait, now this is gonna sound silly, but it only applies the reveal when using a targeted ability. you might realize that if theyre stealthed, you cant target them!

how this works in practice… target mes, spam abilities such as rifle 1 and hope that when they go stealth, you have a projectile mid flight that hits right after they vanish.

usually we just have to bring like 10 ppl to chase the mes for how ever long it takes.

despite the silliness of the mechanic I feel its part of wvw and removing this would diminish the variety of situations which draws us to this game mode over spvp.

be massively disappointed with elite spec. Im actually excited to see how bad its going to turn out.

drones sound like theyre going to be a copy pasta of the ranger spirits. there will be a passive proc like, 15% chance to burn, chill, bleed, etc and an active that does the same effect but only better. yes its a totally wild guess.

we are kit and alchemy dependent so slotting a drone in the utility slot means giving up 1 or more required functions.

hammer will be a copy of either warrior or guardian skills but only weaker. so hammer drone build will a medium armored front liner with no stabo, no utility and hybrid dmg. sounds delicious right?

it sounds like youre trying to do this all by yourself, even jay describes having help.

defense begins with a server mentality. when you call out that your being attacked and the map knows you are defending, it feels worth while save the tower. early arrivals look for ACs to operate and other ways to assist trying to stall for time.

your screen shot shows you play on gom who have been blobbing through bronze for months and thusly rarely need any defense. the best defenders come from those under populated servers.

I had an alt account on ET for a bit and they did some amazing things. It was a privilege to play with them holding out against endless golem rushes 10v30. Even though we ended up losing the keep because theres no fall back, no help coming ever I still felt great about the fight we gave them.

It depends on having a group of like minded players working together.

that is a common spot to place ACs so most ppl know to look there and have had practice finding a location to AoE it from below.

youd prolly need 3 ppl to protect ql.

ac on stairs to cover front gate and point blank catas,
treb in rear to counter rams on gate and far catas
ac in lords room to counter side ACs and assist on gate defense

no defense can hold indefinitely. your goal should be to hold until main force can arrive or delay the enemy as long as possible keeping them from moving onto the next tower.

defense is not a solo job. you need a team coordinating in TS to respond quickly with cross fire from the keep. get more creative with your defensive placements, plan ahead, learn from mistakes.

If you are trying to get better at engi its a very unforgiving path. Like zero mistakes or you die.

Concerns with Population Calculation

I had an additional thought on the subject, what if…

total number of active wvw players, divided by 24 (or 27 for eu) is the population full number.

maybe +100 or w/e but if anet is striving for equality how else would you go about it? then again maybe they just picked a number and done.

but if we follow out this theory of equal players on all servers those marked as full have a long way to go.

you might argue that “my server” doesnt feel full or how can you say we’re full when theres no ques? its not based on an arbitrary number and the cap might rise for every server if there were more players over all. or maybe once the medium pop servers get more active players the cap rises for all.

its also very hard for us players to account for wvw players who dont contribute, dont get in ts and are essentially invisible but easily tracked by anet’s system. those players who stand around on the walls doing nothing when the keep is being attacked and just log out when the gate is at 5%. those players are pushing up your population but your realm still does terrible and so feels like youre underpopulated.

it is reasonable to conclude the population limits are much lower than what is the current number of active players. Therefore 1 or even 100 players leaving does not open an equal number of spots.

to directly answer your question, MK is better than GN if you back it up with FT.

reason being; the dmg from mk and gn is about the same on average. your substituting the burst dmg of barrage with flame blast. we should all still be pretty good at connecting slow projectiles from years of pre patch experience.

are you just going for tag and bag hits or do you actually want to contribute to downing targets? 1/3 nade hits is just fluff dmg. retal can still be a problem which doesnt effect mortar as much. MK can still be used to desiege almost as effectively as pre patch grenades.

there is rly nothing engi has that can be main dmg like meteor shower or power wells but mortar is great filler between coordinated bursts to maintain pressure.

you can run almost as fast as mortar rounds fly, single target projectiles can be fired before your actually in range and still hit the target.

disclaimer: wvw roaming is the realm of condi mesmers; they own it. Venture forth at your own peril. You will have a high chance of death when attempting to engage a LB ranger from max distance.

It seems to me that grenades are prone to spread rather now than cluster as they did prepatch. If your aim is good but the rng of the nade pattern causes only 1 to connect there is a huge dmg loss. it is for this reason my build uses FT and MK.

super secret FT tech! FT has great burst if you can double hit with flame blast, we’re talking 2.5k and 5.5k average crits. Grenade Barrage will get you about 9k but thats if they all hit and its on a 21s CD with traits. Flame blast is a 6s CD and has a bit of auto tracking magic.

The double hit works like this… as the projectile nears the target, it has to be manually detonated but if your timing is perfect, it hits with the undetonated dmg and then detonated dmg.

the best rotation is to throw wrench and immediately launch the flame blast, both attacks can hit the target at the same time for quad hits.

I find that MK compliments FT very well, especially with the on demand blast finisher you are now carrying.

during the wts when big zan was try to break tokers channel on stillness, he lead with a mortar shot. it was like a slug, I was doing the slow motion… NNNOOOOOO!

if he had just targeted and auto attacked with the rifle he would have stopped the cap.

Ive had many games where I was defending the inner gate multiple times as our team slowly pushed in and won later. how ever that tactic is easily countered by a mesmer mass invis the door breakers or you know… stealth bursting anyone who tries to defend.

Another angle I didnt see mentioned was toughness has no effect on condi dmg. 1 offensive stat to increase dmg and only 1 defensive stat to overcome to win.

Does weakness reduce condi dmg?

It gets even simpler to win via condis.

as for your eviscerate example, not regarding endure pain, the warrior has put himself in the most risk intensive position possible to deliver that damage. the warrior also had to charge his adrenalin bar and settle for using a sub par weapon to make evis work.

compare to condi engi pushing incendiary ammo button, which is a no cast time ability, then lets say blow torch (not regarding targeting issues) aim and burn then kite around hoping they cant clear it. if it doesnt work, run away until CDs reset.

because you only need 1 stat to increase dmg compared to power build which needs 3 letting you concentrate the rest of your options on defense

not all classes have equal access to good condi specs and of those that do, many of them are one trick ponies.

if you are making your build defensive vs condis its probably kitten when facing power builds. then youre just like… yeah thats a lot of condis I better push the clear button!

if your clear condi button is alrdy used and you get condi bombed again, its game over even if you got plenty of health remaining, like getting an incurable terminal disease. youre dead and you know it but theres nothing you can do about it while your opponent just avoids your attacks waiting for you to enter down state and stomp.

most of the servers are suffering right now and its because a combination of demoralizing issues hitting all at once.

I think it started with the poor class balance in this patch, then mike and colin telling wvw players they dont exist, follow up with the… nvr to be forgotten golem event.

sure everyones excited for the new desert bl map but then realize HoT is prolly like 8 months away still and next balance patch in 4 months.

wvw activity is at an all time low.

Whenever i play WvW here, i miss WAR so much…
There was a point to it in that game, i wish anet would grant us a point in WvW too..

Some form of siege event, on a big fort. I mean that way people would actually give a kitten , right now you take over forts/towers/etc to lose it to claim it again to lose it to claim it.. for what?

I dare say WAR even had better pve… O.O

if there was another mmo that could compete for the massive battle and open pvp crowd most of us would be there right now.

I had a lot of fun there too once upon a time but I think it just got played out. also thief was the greatest class to run there for all the skips but theyre not so fun to play anymore.

If there was a revival I bet it would be mostly pu mesmers roaming the halls…
