I was able to start the quest by running to Eir ASAP after I enter the instance and spamming F (Talk) meanwhile. As I understood the idea is to initiate the talk from your side and prevent the script.

That’s what worked for me. Turns the Sons hostile, then things get rolling.

It’s not just your custom music…I noticed this evening that the dynamic music (which kicks in during fights) is no longer working.

The frogs if you guys mean the totally ugly Hylecks with oversized heads and hands who survive in trees with bottled water from Divinity’s Reach because Bubbles stole all the water from the jungle. Yeah I’m with you, ugly nightmarish oversizes frogs on crack.

I’m pretty sure those are Itzel, the new race whose language we’re going to be able to learn as a mastery. I assume they’re different from the hylek, possibly distant cousins?

I expect SAB will make a return at some point, else why would Mr. Moto still be standing around Rata Sum with the entry portal? They’d remove that if they didn’t ever intend to bring the content back.

However, here is my stance on the matter, and I fear it will not go over well with some of us. While I enjoyed SAB and certainly don’t hate it, I’m starting to really, really, really hate the behavior of those who wish to see it back. For example:

• There’s a Twitch livestream in which devs are discussing some of the features of HoT. Some players in the chat are asking questions, but the questions are buried under a ton of “SAB” spam.

• Some new content is released, LS or some such, and as everyone logs in they note that an Anet employee is ambling around in game with them, ensuring that all is well. The word spreads: “Hey, X is here!” Other players gather around asking questions and making comments. Then the SAB Borg arrives: “BRING BACK SAB BRING BACK SAB BRING BACK SAB!!!111” X bolts; I would too under such circumstances. And yes, I have seen this happen.

• Someone at Anet takes the time and trouble to put together something special, like “airplane mode” for April Fools’. Many of us found it cute and clever, some did not, and some did not because it wasn’t SAB. We know this because they posted about it here and Reddit loudly and repeatedly.

• The SAB Borg also posts loudly and repeatedly about the continued absence of SAB in nearly. Every. Other. Thread. Covering. Nearly. Every. Other. Subject. Like this.

• I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that the more prominent Anet figures like Mike O’Brien or Colin Johanson have people screaming “SAB” at them in the street.

My point, guys, is that you’re behaving very much like the more annoying type of “social justice warrior” who do more long-term damage to their respective causes than good. Being a massive pain in the kitten is NOT going to help your case…and you’re also likely annoying the very people with the power to bring it back. Plus, it’s embarrassing. I’m willing to bet some of those saying “I hate SAB” are saying that specifically because of the obnoxious “BRING BACK SAB” movement.

We’re all adults here, remember.

That Bush has been there since i started playing more than 2 years ago – another one like that should be located slightly south to the Crossing-Waypoint (i’am pretty sure there are more of them, but i don’t pay much attention to the vegetation :P)

That’s probably the one I initially noticed. But today it wasn’t there for whatever reason. Maybe the different overflow maps have the vegetation placed differently?

I’m curious about this unique-looking tree or bush, which I’ve noticed around Queensdale while working on dailies.

The first time I noticed it was last week, beside the road between Lexi’s trading post and Claypool. This morning it was no longer there (that’s odd in itself; I’d gone there specifically to get a screenie of it) but is now just west of the Fields waypoint.

It appears to be the only one of its kind, and I’m trying to figure out what real-world tree it’s based on.

I was a little surprised to hear the Mordrem actually speaking. They must be evolving quickly!

For some reason I wasn’t able to spend Mastery points in anything other than Gliding. A guildie reported the same issue. I was fine with that, because I wanted to experiment and practice. However, I’m hoping that the next test (assuming I get into it) will feature a slightly larger map. I sort of felt like I was in a cage part of the time.

I’m not sure what aquatic weapon a revenant is expected to use. I had one of each type drop during the evening and noticed the same tooltip on all of them: “This weapon type is unusable by your profession.” Are aquatic weapons simply not enabled yet?

It’s the jumping puzzle area of the Metrica Province, which has indeed always been there.

Duh, should have thought of that, it was one of the first I’d attempted at launch. Odd that I never noticed it before from that angle. I should look up more often. :P

Tobias, ambient dialogue where?

So there my sylvari elementalist was, gathering lumber in Metrica Province. Someone very kindly left a Box O’ Fun stocked with fireworks near Conduit Tower Blig, so naturally he set them off. When I swung my camera upward to admire them I found…um, that.

There’s a random asura gate up there. There’s various chunks of landscape and trees. There’s some stepping stones if you run a little further north to look at it. From some angles it looks almost like EotM all jumbled up.

Maybe it’s been there all along, or maybe my client is rendering a particularly strange graphics glitch. In any event, I thought I’d share.

Another player linked it stating “Don’t click it” and a few others yelled at that person for crashing their client.

I think that’s the “Home-cooked Goodness” something-or-other, they’re looking into it. I’ve been too busy leveling my elementalist to bother with the Dragon kitten tournament or whatever that is.

Anyway, based on some inquiries, this seems to be a problem on my end rather than Anet’s. I’ll be stopping by my phone company this very morning to pay my bill so I can check into the matter further. Wish I could bring my hulking charrior along to “expedite” the conversation.

More puzzling to me are the water weapons that have sigils like “Grawl Slaying” plugged into them. I didn’t know those silly monkeys swam…

Not sure, to be honest. Normally that’s it for me too…a few minutes. A couple of guildies report similar slowness, while others report the usual download speed. Maybe it’s a weather thing.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a GW2 update take so long as this one, or bog my machine down to such an extent. Still crawling along with 1 file to go, and I started an hour ago.

What’d you guys do, sneak the expansion in?

Since Nageling is constantly under attack by Separatists, that’s something that might provide a clue. Odd that it doesn’t have a plaque, though. Dev oversight?

I guess it depends on how long it takes HoT to go live. I don’t think we’ll have to pursue Rytlock, I believe he’s coming back to us. Possibly we’ll see SAB (if nothing else, they’ll pop it back into the game to quiet the rather noisy faction that’s been clamoring for it). I don’t think, given the state of LA, that we’ll see a return of Dragon Bash…but we may get to see and possibly help with the rebuilding of LA. Go hang out on the wall near Fort Marriner to see what I mean there.

Valentine’s…hmm, maybe. Maybe chefs can start making boxes of chocolates or something.

Well, if you’ll go hang around Fort Marriner, you’ll see Magnus, Kiel, and Hero-Tron are just now discussing how to get LA back on its feet. So I guess we just have to suspend our disbelief and remember time doesn’t pass in Tyria as it does here.

I remember him as well, with fondness. I loved reading his posts; he inspired me to get deeper into the lore of Tyria. Whatever became of him?

Back OT…“Mursaat” was the first word that flashed into my mind when I saw those critters. There are certain aspects of them I can’t account for—such as why their fleshly bodies of old are now glowing—but I think it is them. Possibly they’ve “evolved”? The flipping three-headed wurm in Bloodtide evolved, so why can’t they?

Also, I think we should consider the setting we see them in. Rytlock reveals the hidden entrance to their city (or stronghold or whatever that is) by burning away the vines that conceal it. He then leads a mixed-race group in to meet them. I can imagine him saying “All right, you floating freaks, here’s your chance to put things right since you ran away during the last rise of the dragons (Remember, Rytlock has a thing about people abandoning their responsibilities in combat!). Help us fight this dragon!”

This has been an issue for me since the patch. No biggie, but rather annoying.

I’m not at all certain the Pact itself, much less its Marshal, survived that battle. Something tells me the alliance that “takes the fight to Mordremoth” might be a bit different.

Well, we humans and the charr got over our differences (mostly), so I guess we can smooth things over with the Mursaat as well. After all, they were one of the races that fought the ED previously, so their input would be vital.

Maybe we’ll be able to channel Alesia the Amazing Tanking Monk from GW1 and run headlong into the enemy!

Diablo IV: Hell on Tyria confirmed!

I can’t see Anet going to all this trouble…registering the trademark, “leaking” it, tacking what’s essentially a commercial for the PAX appearance onto the end of a cine, and engaging in frantic retconning if this is just a LS installment to be announced. Never mind rage, the snickering from both the players and Anet’s competitors would be louder than Mordy’s roar.

So I’m expecting something significant. Exactly what is hard to say, but we’ll know in a few more days.

I’ll start off by saying I know I need to update my video drivers. It’s something I’ve been putting off because I’m of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” school of thought. Also, the last time I attempted this it didn’t end well…but that was on an older computer, with a dedicated video card.

My current rig was built for me by a friend as a gaming rig, and it’s served excellently for nearly three years with GW2 and other games. However, over the last several months there’s been an intermittent problem with my video during gameplay…the screen will flicker, and often the graphics will go absolutely berserk. Sometimes this recovers on its own, and sometimes I have to hard reboot the computer because it’s locked up. I’ll see a little message about “video driver has stopped working and has recovered” in the lower right corner of my screen.

But then, the problem would disappear, sometimes for weeks or even a month or two at a time. I’ve been able to alleviate it by doing defragging, disc cleanup, and last week on a guildie’s advice I ran the -repair function on the game client. These solutions all seem to help, but never for long. The problem returns.

Now, however, it’s starting to happen when NO games are running. This morning it hit while I was simply scrolling down a web page. Screen flickered, then everything froze. After rebooting I went into the event viewer and found this:

“Unloading the performance counter strings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The first DWORD in the Data section contains the error code”

I have no idea what that means, and Google searches turn up discussions so techy it makes me cross-eyed.

So my question is simple: Will updating the drivers help this at all, or should I be looking elsewhere for solutions to this? This is the only computer I’ve got, and I want to keep it healthy as long as possible…it plays a much more important role than as a gaming rig. Here are my specs:

Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor, 3.20 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX, driver 311.06
Memory: 4.00 GB

One last question…I see Nvidia Experience (which I have installed) has an option to update drivers through it, but I’ve also read that this might not be the best option. As long as I can be sure of doing it correctly, I’m fine with it but want to make certain. Have any of you had experience with it?

So ever since last Tuesday, I’ve found myself playing my sylvari ele more and more and perversely enjoying the whole “they belong to the dragon now” storyline. My ele is already rather sinister and mad-looking, so I just took the concept and ran with it.

The other evening I went charging through Hoelbrak shouting things like, “All things have a right to grow…UNLESS THEY RESIST MORDREMOTH!” and “May the stars guide you…TO MODREMOTH!!!” With me was an obliging guildie yelling “Help, I feel like I’m in a slasher flick!”

So thanks, Anet. This is the most fun I’ve had roleplaying a character yet.

Here’s my hope for how the matter of sylvari corruption will be handled. Pure speculation, mind you.

Sylvari PC’s will see an icon appear on their UI. Perhaps only when they are in the Silverwastes or the Maguuma, near Mordremoth’s area of power and influence. It could be a debuff that can only be removed by killing Mordrem…in essence, fighting back against the dragon’s corruption. Or it could be removed by returning to the Grove and standing in the presence of the Pale Tree’s avatar. Obviously Mordy’s plans for creating an evil planty race got scuppered by Ventari and Ronan, so it seems fitting that the fruit (pun totally intended) of their labor would negate the dragon’s power.

Just a thought.

I’m fine with an Xpac, but having completed the episode I think they should rename it. “Heart of Thorns” sounds too much like a soap opera. I think they should call the expansion “We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Blimp”.

Anet, could we please not have any dailies set in the Shiverpeaks for a day or two? It’s just that it was twelve degrees at my house this morning, and…well, you guys do your job too well. When one has one’s headset on and is hearing the howling wind and crackling ice of the mountains, it becomes very real indeed. Having the Claw of Jormag belch his freezing breath in my general direction makes me just wanna go crawl back under my electric blanket and not leave it until March or so.

Maybe we could go dig for seashells in Southsun or something until the cold snap is over?

Ah. I haven’t actually previewed a lot of the Gem Store items, because few of them caught my eye like the scarf does.

Not a big deal in any event. Mostly, I just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to make a thread with such a silly title.

I love the shoulder scarf…it will be perfect for the “Dr. Who” style character I’m working on…but there’s this one unsettling little glitch.

When you “preview” it in the TP window, all your other armor disappears. This despite its being advertised as usable with all armor types. I know it’s just a tiny little glitch, but my guildies and I have noticed it (and giggled extensively about it), so I thought I’d call it to Anet’s attention.

Now we can all laugh about it while they’re gone on their Christmas break!

Also, remember that the original heroes were all human. My asuran mesmer or charr guardian could not possibly be descended from them.

I’d made a thread of my own inquiring about this, before having this thread brought to my attention. Sometimes it’s best to drink all the coffee before posting.

Anyway, here I am now, and am pondering this. I see it as Anet’s attempt to improve interaction with the community, but then I’m a “glass half-full” sort of person. I know the game’s treatment of the lore has been—erratic—but I also know retconning, game mechanics, and budget concerns play a heavy role in a lot of decisions made by game studios.

However, without knowing a little more, I probably won’t apply, at least not yet. As drax says, it would be hard to be an authoritative voice here without “Anet’s lore bible” (have they even got one?) to refer to, and even those are subject to retconning. Suppose the “lore bible” states that the DSD’s name is the Kraken, and at the last minute some dev decides it’s going to be Cthulhu Jr. Imagine the confusion.

Also, like others, I’ve done some moderation and yes, it’s tough. Arguments break out. People who are militant supporters/enemies of some particular aspect of the game are going to bring it into every single conversation whether it belongs there or not. Sleepy forum users are going to make duplicate threads in the Lore forum about the forum specialist program without checking to see if one’s been made yet. It can rattle ya.

So for now, I think I’ll just sit back and see how this transpires. I sincerely hope that it takes off and succeeds, though.

The responses to the image are telling, aren’t they? Some of us notice the creature, some of us notice the hairstyle/armor, some of us notice the environment.

I’m intrigued by the title. There’s “Nowhere to Hide”. Caithe, this means you. Get your leafy fanny out of that cave at once, not even my thief enjoyed being you.

Oh, and the image? Easy. Obviously Pippi Longstocking battling a particularly angry hylek.

This was clearly explained, and a major plotline for next episode, not sure how you missed it. At the end, your character clearly states that the last seed must be used in the cave beyond the door you can’t enter. Marjory says she will go back to the Priory to research how to open the door so you can get in and use the seed. The story then ends there.

It’s called “having a conversation with someone in the room while the last bit of dialogue is playing”. It happens. Non-gamers don’t always know when not to walk in on us, do they?

However, just ran the episode again on my thief and caught it this time, so the question is answered. Thank you.
