4. Mats are the downside at the moment only if you buy them off TP. I bought mine off TP because I’m saving the ones I’ve crafted for the new legendaries and also wanted to see the difference – it cost me 1.3k gold, dusk was 1.2k gold at the time. Not a big difference since didn’t use buy orders which would give me ~10% discount and total price of 1.15~1.2k gold which is already cheaper the the TP pre price. I just didn’t want to wait.
5. I’ve also calculated the price if you are going to do it by crafting mats – it would be around 0.8~0.85k gold which is a significant discount from even 1.15~1.2k gold. Generally you save up around 300-400 gold for doing collection there. Is it good? Yes, it is. For just four or five hours of new awesome experience you are getting by doing all those small tasks.
So to summ up:
- Collection tasks are awesome with some small exceptions (some bugged stuff which is getting fixed though or already got a fix), so I really recommend doing those
- Collections do save you gold if you don’t buy mats off TP, but craft them – yes, that takes time but this is exactly one of the reasons why the prices are higher on the TPJust fyi, here are the prices and material lists for crafting dusk:
Craft ascended mats yourself, mats bought with buy order: 680g
Craft ascended mats yourself , mats bought directly: 755g
Buy all mats, also ascended mats, directly: 1168gAs you mentioned, there is a huge spread between buying deldrimor ingots directly or crafting it yourself.
Some other notes:
Anet actually did consider the average value of the different precursors before hot in their crafting recipes. Venom only costs around 30g to craft.thehipone made a good remark why crafting your own precursor will mostly never be significantly cheaper than buying it off the tp.
out of topic can I just ask what program / website you’re using in your pictures?
Thats right.
Also, if you get a (free) account there and give the website API permissions to read info about your gw2 account, you can actually synchronise the shopping list for any crafted and most forged items. That means first the website calculates all base ingedients you need, like in the screenshot here. Then it checks the inventory of all your characters, your account bank, your wallet and your mat storage, to see which mats you already have and it will list the ones you still need.
Quite neat, when crafting complicated stuff like precursors, legendaries, nightfury and so on.
Sned me a pm, if you have any more questions about that, dont want to go too much off topic here.

If you finish a specialisation collection, you also get auto awarded a recipe for specialisation rune. You can buy additional recipes for those, once unlocked, from the lauren vendor, to learn them on different alts and i tihnk i read that its the same for the precursor recipes.

Lol, nice try, but free-to-play accounts can’t even whisper people who aren’t mutual friends, and they can’t mail gold or items, so GW2 going F2P should have literally no effect on goldsellers.
The whispers are from stolen accounts, not freebies.
And how are stolen accounts related to f2p?

I don’t craft and have no intention to, what am I supposed to do with these shards? I have 500+
Spirit shards arent used for crafting but forging, so you dont need to level any crafting to turn them into gold.

Thus, for me the best way of earning gold right now is doing fractal 40 with champ skip. There are many parties in lfg, give it a try. 60s minimum comes from selling fractal encryptions (u might want to save them for patch), not counting t5/t6/rare mats that drop and magi/cavalier/soldier exos and rares. I could get around 20 gph when i was really lucky and around 9 when i decided to deposit mats and had no luck with exos.
Wait, what? How does that work exactly? You sell the encryptions you get as rewards? How many do you usually get?
Encryptions sell for 20s on TP (usually) and u get 3 of them. 1 run should be around 3 minutes or less, so 20 runs per hour with a good group. That gives you 12 gold from boxes. Besides that u get a lot of items and rare mats that can sometimes sell well or salvage to ecto + insignia. Apparently, it isn’t easy to keep a good pace with a pug group though so income is fairly less then since time might be up to 5 min. Loading times also are a factor here.
I, uh, I don’t think you realize who you are talking to lol.
Wanze is essentially the forum authority on all things GW2 economy / TP flipping.
I’m saying this seriously, there is no sarcasm here, the dude knows what he’s talking about.
Yes especially when u talk about iron rich nodes being profitable (20s much profit rofl) Skipping in fractals is as bannable as was bugging mai trin, double damage on teq and so on. Funny because i can’t find any research on gold per hour when farming nodes. Is that 5 gph tasty? And after u do the node route what will u do for next few hours?
Just farming the 3 blooming passifloras in ssc gives you 2-3g.
You are making fun of 20s for iron but say than farming 3 20s encryptions per run is good?
Your farm is heavily gated behind gear and progression checks and it has to be done with a highly trained party, if you want runs to be completed in 3 min.
With a party of 5 noobs, i would probably make more gold farming karkas in ssc, as any veteran has a guaranteed drop of a karka shell besides all the other stuff you get.
Just checked: encryptions sell for 15s not 20s.

Poly Refractor - buy now or wait until raids?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

There’s a ghostly aura infusion?
From the raids rewards blog:
Unique Boss Rewards
Raid bosses also have some additional unique, thematic rewards. These may include miniatures of the boss or their minions—or even unique cosmetic rewards. One such unique reward that can be obtained in Spirit Vale is an infusion that, when equipped, will provide your character with a ghostly aura.
On topic:
the poly upgrades will stay tradeable, even if you use them.
So buy one now, make sure to slap it on a salvageable trinket and if you obtained the ghostly infusion, you can salvage the trinket and sell the poly. if you wish. Maybe you even make a little profit, if prices start to rise again.
And maybe the effects stack with the ghostly infusion, so might want to keep both.
I think the candy corn orichalcum amulet stays account bound, even after equipping it, so it might be a good choice to slap the infusion on it, as you can swap it between alts. And it has selectable stats.
Not 100% sure though, if it really stays account bound after use.

Dark Balls require a LOT of investments. If you can’t afford to craft a bunch of armors, I would recommend hoping for an Ascended chest drop.
I would go for the cheap ascended backs (books and quivers) from the forge.
They start around 65g crafting cost.

Highest gold rates will always be farming the mats that are currently in demand and yield a high value. Unfortunately, those change on a daily or weekly basis, so you would have to alter your route and think for yourself.
That is not true. The number of mats u get per hour is very different depending on the farming method. Some farms may include more of those, some less thus making you different gph. Farming nodes is not a reliable way of earning gold since gatherable mats are cheap (besides ori, ancient wood, flax) and said nodes are actually rare.

Silverwastes are a good source of piles of coarse sand which is needed for guild halls. Despite that, silverwastes is in the same spot as before because of t6 prices falling down a lot after HoT. This way it is still by far the best place to farm.
If you have HoT, you might want to park chars at flax spot under Itzel. Farming events is worthless but if u have some aurilium u might wanna snipe some Tarir defense and farm chests below. Those are easily accessible if u use lfg to get into done Tarir, unlike ones on other maps.
Tbh, after dungeon nerf it is hard to earn pure gold. Most of gold comes from mats, but the more u farm the more prices drop….. So yeah it is kinda kittened up now.
Gathering mats arent cheap, lots of them gained more than 100% since HoT released.
T6 fine mats lost 50% since hot, t5 mats arrived at a couple of copper over vendor value, so i dont know why you would even mention those. They arent worth much more than t5 leather before hot.

Buy on the tp
Do vendors sell things you can get from the trading post? I thought it was mostly karma items.
All the stuff from the crafting vendors is tradeable, like lumps of ore, spools, etc.
These items get bought on the tp alot, evne over vendor value, i guess most people rather pay a couple of copper per item more for the convenience of buying per stack.
Many alcoholic beverages are also tradeable.
Therma Reagents and elonian wine also.Yah. When people have talked on the forum about buying in bulk from vendors they have almost always been talking about those Sun Beads or the Crab Grabber gloves. I kind of assumed that’s what he was talking about here also.
Buying gloves per stack wouldnt make sense with a bag limit of 160 slots.

Its funny how people keep claiming this, yet they fail to give any evidence that this is the case. The gem->gold ratio has been incredibly stable since hot launch, hovering around 20g for 100 gems, with 10% variation, depending on the time of day.
If so much more players are forced to buy gold now and gold in general is so hard to come by, I wonder why the ratio isnt going down. Not sure what proof you’re looking for. The reward nerfs have been highly detailed by both ANET and community members.
For the gems to gold ratio no one but them really know what that algorithm looks like but I would think anyone with some critical thinking skills could figure out how them being the only authorized gold seller then creating massive gold sinks would serve to benefit them.
It’s not unlike Comcast charging for going over a set amount of data in a month but then allowing thier on demand video not to count against that cap. They are encouraging you to use their service.
For some players they are going to refuse to buy gold so they just know certain items they will never own so they don’t even try. I’m in that camp, saw nightfury looked cool so was prepared to “work hard” over Halloween for it until it was discovered to just be a 3200g sink and wrote off ever having it.
At the moment gold is mainly flowing into the economy by huge guilds that are actually leveling scribing and building out their guild halls. When that ends and mat prices dry up I think it will be even worse for normal players as rewards will be even further out of reach.
Honestly I feel like we’ve already lost a ton of players from the first few weeks of the expansion and I think that will only get worse until they do something about their grindy reward structure.
I am jut looking for proof that players are buying gold with gems because it cant be earned in game anymore.
As i said, the gold/gem ratio is quite stable since hot release, which indicates that there arent more players buying gold with gems than before hot.

If its an asc backpack you are looking for, there are cheaper options.
Some are earned through new collections/achievements and require very little mats or gold.
The old forged asc backs also got quite cheap since t6 mats and ectos dropped in value.
There with yakkington and quiver of a thousand arrows even lets you choose your stats.
They should cost around 60-80g atm.

Every reward nerf and gold grind they’ve introduced in this expansion was put in place to guide players to buy MORE gold with gems. The chance of them disabling it at this point is probably less then zero.
Although I do agree it’s a problem and is the reason we have such unreasonable grinds for almost anything in the game.

I’m not really sure which mats you’re talking about.
Ascended gear involves a wide variety of mats. Do you mean silk scraps, soft wood, or ectoplasms, etc? All those are used in making ascended items.
Any material that sells for a lot, really. Is there any non-complicated way, streamlined way of getting them? Like, do a specific dungeon or event that awards me ascended mats every time I do it. Or something. IDK.
IF there was a non-complicated, streamlined way to get them, everybody would do it and they wouldnt be worth much.
Alright, then, but my question still stands; minus the non-complicated part. Heck, any crafting mat that sells for a good amount will do.
Alot of ressources farmed in lower level maps have seen a singificant rise in value since HoT.

I know how dyes are acquired. I know how to salvage them for pigments.
And scribe is still poorly designed. The balance between large and small guilds is clearly on the large guild side for scribes. I know they didn’t want large guilds to simply walk into their guild hall and automatically have everything. But in the design process large guilds can still walk in and get everything because they have the personnel to get all the resources fast.
So it costs less for large guilds to unlock the scribe?

Your math is wrong buddy, you didn’t include crafting the wolf totem, and the original recipe for tier one, and the time spent, karma, spirit shards, wvw currency, and spvp currency also have a gold value.
Crafting Howl costs 159g, if you buy every material directly and 120g, if you craft daily ascended mats yourself.
Karma costs are 4100, which isnt much, spirit shards arent needed, shards of glory and memories of battle are already included in the gold costs.

Inviting for new players? yeah – it wasn’t. But then again no other form of content was “more inviting” by comparison.
We all know how PvP players react to new players. WvW can be the same.
And open world PvE? that’s welcoming because there’s no effective way to get new players out of your maps – which highly organized guilds and groups already did by the time Teq came out.So yes – I see what you’re saying but I don’t see how dungeons were more unwelcoming than the rest of the game.
A personal question – did any community in GW2 seem particularly inviting? ( with exception of the “open world” community that doesn’t really exist because open world). Maybe your experiences differ – but I don’t see much difference.
As I mentioned in a post above – I feel the nerfed dungeon rewards are a much bigger hit on newer players than on veterans.
I still don’t see how nerfing dungeons can be associated with “punishing the meta zerkers and promoting the teamwork loving”.
I clearly see it as a move to make the meta zerkers move into FOTM and Raids because that’s where they want their people to be.I don’t expect the Raid community to have a more teaching or inclusive attitude than that of the old dungeon community – in fact it will be worse.
In dungeons people wanted to shave minutes and make more gold – there was no real threat of failure and thus toxicity ( as high as some people say it was) was fairly minimal – people didn’t run with new players because they didn’t like it – but it wouldn’t have made them lose the encounter.Look at Raids – where if you mess up you fail and have to restart. Now your rewards are actually on the line – I’m looking forward to see how the community approaches this.
You´re right, pvp seems to be quite toxic as well (i dont play that much either) and i partly agree on wvw not being too noob friendly either.
But both game modes have never been as rewarding as dungeons have been, thats why i think the nerf to dungeon rewards is justified.
Personally, i have seen many great communities in GW2. I think i have been playing on 7 or 8 EU servers, on some of them twice.
I have been a member of great guilds with very different foci and playstyles and I have been part of some great wvw communities in my time. Most of them go down the drain at some point but most of them pick themselves up again and evolve.
I dont neccessarily blame the veteran dungeon runners for the nerf or their perceived bad behaviour, bad dungeon design from Anet probably also played its part.
But they tried to “fix” dungeons several times with some mayor updates and it simply didnt work out.
They said that they envision gw2 as a living, breathing world, where lots of players play huge events together. Instanced 5 man content simply doesnt fit that bill.
You cant completely abandon it because some parts of the player base really like that kind of content but thats why they put ressources into fractals, as it seems easier to incorporate current rewards and progression structures into it, while also providing a skill curve.
The same probably goes for raids, we will see.

This suggestion is (mostly, but definitely not solely) aimed at assisting small guilds and casual players.
Ascended gear is not intended for casual players. Its a long term reward for personal progress.
Why do you want this to be available to casuals? It will destroy alot of current rewards structures and just because its intended for small guilds and casuals doesnt mean the big and hardcore veteran guilds wont abuse it.
How much different craftable stat combos do we now have in the game, 30?
Maybe 10 popular sets?
So a big raiding guild would only need like 10 of each, maybe only 5 for some and 15 for for others.
Thats 100 sets, multiply that by 3 weight classes and a guild with 150 hardcore players would only have to craft 2 sets per member and would basically be all set for any gear they might want to run a couple of raid groups simoultaneously.
They would completely leave the demand crowd for ascended gear.
