How do I make gold now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

i made only 100g alone from the sand (which ppl need for the guild hall) and it drops really well in the SW by doing chest runs.

Someone gets it.

No, they don’t.

The issue is not whether there are ways to make gold, or not.

There are always ways to make gold, if you don’t care how you do it.

The issue is that people used to be able to make gold the way they wanted to, by playing the parts of the game they enjoyed most.

Some of the ways were better than others and that wasn’t ideal, but there were at least many ways.

Whereas, now, many (most?) parts of the game, including parts that were not overly-lucrative before, have had their rewards nerfed.

Meaning many people now have to go out of their way and do bits of the game they don’t enjoy, just to make gold.

That changes the fundamental nature of the game.

They just liked that content before because it didnt involve much skill and had high rewards.

Basic Scribing costs are nonsense

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

But the reason why brown pigment is so expensive now is the patch they launched on October 29th, which made pigment, beside other things, depositable in the material storage.

The mayority of pigments is created by regular players and casuals, that just harvest away on plants and get random drops. Before the 29th, pigment was just clogging their precious bag space, so they disposed of it by selling it on the tp.

And that may account for a pricing change between when HoT launched and just now, but it’s still at a very high price due to basic supply and demand differences. If your argument were the primary cause then ALL pigments would be high, not just the one that is required in massive quantities for low level Scribing. It’s basically like if they only just added both Armoring and Copper as a resource a few weeks back, you could expect copper ore to be at tens of silver each, and it’s much easier to farm.

I get why the prices would be high right now, I’m just saying, there are methods ANet has available to create short term solutions to short term problems, but they seem to refuse to do this, only looking at the very long term trends and ignoring any inconvenience to players in the meantime. I’m sure that if prices are more in balance in six months time they will view that as a situation well handled from their perspective.

And you cant really say that Anet didnt add more dyes to the market. With Hot release, prices for dyes plummeted by 50%.

Orly?

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/20406

The reason why other pigment isnt as high as brown one is that there are nearly no scribes at level 125 yet, which enables them to use other pigment than brown.

The dye you linked proves my point as it went from over 4s buy order before hot to 1.65s buy order shortly after.

Ebony->Marauder / Agate->Crusader = fail?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

An Agate Orb grants marauder stats:
Major: power + precision
Minor: vitality + ferocity

An Ebony Orb grants crusader stats:
Major: power + toughness
Minor: healing power + ferocity

And yet, Ebony Orbs are used to craft gear with marauder stats, and Agate Orbs are used to craft gear with crusader stats. Wat?

Clearly this is a mistake, like, clearly this is a mistake, but is this the sort of thing that will have its implementation fixed, or will it be kept this way, because what-the-hell-crafting?

I guess that depends wether players post this bug in the dedicated thread for HoT bugs and issues in the bugs forums and dont open a thread in general discussions for it.

On crafting and excessive double-clicking

Wanze.8410

Thank you very much for providing the link!
Yet I’m now even more confused. I would’ve liked to see an example of an “allowed” macros.

They say:

Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.

and

This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.

But macros is by definition multiple actions (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/M/macro.html):

A symbol, name, or key that represents a list of commands, actions, or keystrokes. Many programs allow you to create macros so that you can enter a single character or word to perform a whole series of actions.

They mention the auto-clicker (which is actually what I ask about) here:

You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere.

Yet this does not say, can it be used, it this is active in the active window, instead of me clicking these chests. If they detail it as prohibited due to acting in the minimized window – does it mean what I want is allowed? Coz what I want seems to be against points mentioned above, yet not against the very idea “macros are allowed”. I’m confused.

TL:DR Points in their policy are contradicting each other and does not provide information on what is allowed.

They also said, if you are not sure, if something is allowed or not, you shouldnt use it.
This seems to be the case here.
End of story.

Guild-bound Craftable Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I’m confused. When was that indicated? The whole idea so far has been that the armor would be bound to the guild. That way non-guild-members cannot, as you put it, buy it.

If you’re indicating that ascended equipment should be purchasable on the market, I don’t think that’s a good idea. Then it becomes an economy focus rather than a guild community focus. Anet already has plenty of cash sinks on the trading post that anyone (including guilds) can purchase at any time already purely for gold. The whole idea is to bring more importance and interaction to half of Guild Wars’s title.

If only guild members can buy it, how does that prevent someone from doing this..

/map tipping for guild with ascended armor crafters ready to use —-> join guild —-> buy/craft armor from guild crafters —-> pay inviter —-> leave guild. Unless you are saying that A-net would some how flag the armor to be useable by members only in a certain guild, and only when repping said guild, the final result would be a way to acquire ascended armor without having to level crafting or get RNG lucky.

Exactly like that, yep. Anything flagged as guild-bound is automatically (as part of the “leave guild” button’s programming sequence) sent to the guild’s ascended equipment vault (a material-storage-style panel which should also be added). The confiscation of guild-bound items is an extremely simple line of code.

Also, I just noticed something in Guild Wars that indicates that something like this is coming in the future: in the guild window, you can see what level and profession of craftsman fellow members are. If ascended crafting isn’t going to be accessible to guild members, why do you need to know crafting levels? It could just have the professions, or even just not show any profession information at all. As crafting and guild interaction currently stands, the last thing guild members need to even think of caring about is others’ crafting levels. The information is completely useless – exotic equipment is available anywhere and (mostly) for cheaper than crafting it yourself, so there’s no good reason to requisition it from fellow guildies.

The crafting proficiency of guild members has always been visible in the roster.

What would a guild leader stop to invite a new player, let him pay for guild bound ascended armor and then kick him?

Not that i want to defend the way that they implemented scribing, I actually think its utterly broken.
If it was meant to be leveled by pooling ressources from many guild members, they should have implemented a system like for guild hall upgrades, where people could donate mats.

But now, most players just deposit whatever pigment they get into their storage and basically forget about it, so supply on the tp dried up.
Most players dont even know what pigment is for and certainly dont know what value it actually holds, otherwise they would put it on the tp.

And you cant really say that Anet didnt add more dyes to the market. With Hot release, prices for dyes plummeted by 50%.

Wanze.8410

Their definition of auto clicker is different than what DarkMagister is asking. Their wording is:

4. You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere.

Instead of playing elsewhere, you’d be actively holding down a button that will left click whatever is beneath your mouse at the time and you’re only using it to left click for looting/buying purposes. It only performs the function of left clicking and only does it while you the player hold down the specified key when you willfully mouseover a qualifying item.

But you are still performing multiple actions with only 1 keystroke.

“Macros
Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.
This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.”

Wanze.8410

Yeah, a link to such a case is welcome. Last time I checked forum search did not work at all ))

Here is the official policy on macros and auto clickers.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post1532762

The best way for a player to kitten whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
“Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
“Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
“Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.

I guess auto clickers enable you to perform actions (buy vendor items, open containers, list or buy items on the tp) without having to be on the computer and they also enable you to play faster than someone who doesnt use it.

Anything that activates more than 1 action per key stroke is not allowed.

In this precise case I see it as 1 action: “buy 10 items of this”, as the game does not provide a convenient way to do it.

Well, it doesnt really matter how you see it because anet defines a stroke and an action differently than you and they stated many times that auto clickers are not allowed.
If you are using auto clickers, thats your choice and your risk of getting banned.

The best legal workaround is binding leftclick to mousewheel.

Solution 4 has been suggested previously and, of the four you’ve offered, it’s the one that appeals to me most., although several of these solutions could really be implemented together. Thank you for bringing this up again. The mystic forge is so clumsy and it doesn’t need to be.

There’s also, if I may hijack your post, too much real-estate on the right side, which serves only to show you the four ingredients you’re combining. It’s about time the mystic forge UI had an update. Let’s hope one is in the works.

You can use any 3 crests (5), orbs (15) or doubloons (4) to make amalgamated gemstones, so there are 24³ different recipes for them.
Should they all be put into the list?

Yes. In a way.

You wouldn’t want to put all 24^3 receipes in, but you could put in a recipe that’s generic and uses whatever gemstones/etc you’ve got most of to fill the gaps. That is to say, the recipe only indicates that it will take a crest/orb/doubloon without specifying the exact type of each, if that makes sense.

Also, there’s already nesting in the crafting lists. There’s no reason there couldn’t be nesting in the mystic forge list, or even multiple levels of nesting. Some smaller lists could be handled this way.

The recipes would be endless, as there are so much recipes that only call for a certain group of item (for example weapon promotion) and also give out random results.

Remove Charged Quartz Crystal gating

Nice catch you two. I can see why it’s a bit gated now, though it still makes me wish they could ease up on it a bit. Finished Day 11/40 on my quest to get a full set of Celestial Gear for my Tempest due to this gating.

Another side effect of the gating is that daily quartz crystal consumption is limited, otherwise you would use up 4 stacks of quartz on day one to get your charged ones.
Quartz already went up 2s again since HoT launched.

If you want tocircumnavigate the timegate, you can buy trick or treat bags by the thousands, they occiasionally give the charged quartz, and sell the other items you get from them. If you get the bags on buy order and sell the mats as lowest listing, you shouldnt make too much loss.

But in general, i would say that matrices are traded under value atm on the tp, considering you can buy 2 encryption keys with 1 matrice, which is a 40s value.
But thats normal, as there is an unusual amount of rings being salvaged atm, which players hoarded in their vaults.

How do I make gold now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Every time you sell something on the tp, you have the choice to list it for double, triple or ten times the value it actually has.

But you dont and rather go to the forums and complain about them making gold.

Too frequently it’s players doing instant sell of item drops rather than take the 10 seconds to list a price somewhere between current high bid and low ask. That difference adds up quickly over time. And Gods forbid they vendor it to NPCs.

How does any of this explain the nerfs the original post mentioned?

Were the nerfs designed around people using the TP more efficiently after HoT hit?

What i wrote wasnt a response to the OP but to your post. I dont know why you are expecting to find an explaination in it for something unrelated.

And my response was in response to nerfing of all those vanilla gold methods.

“HoT is truly amazing! Nerfing every gold method except”

Except all those methods that got nerfed werent vanilla they got introduced after launch.

And you dont need spreadsheets in order t olist your loot for a higher value.

Sorry, wrong use of semantics. I usually refer to everything pre-expansion as vanilla for any game.

Not the point through right? All the nerfs listed as well as ascended drop mega nerfs kinda suck IMO.

Well its still possible to list your loot for a higher value, so that didnt get nerfed.

Most of your loot comes from HoT event mobs because YOU CHOOSE to kill them.
There are plenty of mobs in the new maps that are effected by your magic find.

But most of the time, people ignore them and run towards an event on the other side of the map with all the other fools for some unknown reason and simply ignore everything along the way.

Then you go kill the champ that everybody else kills and you go on the forums to complain that you didnt get anything special for killing the champ that everybody else killed also.

Yes, if you are an economist/accountant who sits in front of the tp all day and night long flipping/observing then making gold is probably much easier. I for one am not that type of player, I rather kill things than do that.

By using a known crafting site or with a little bit of code you can import prices into your own spreadsheets,

That sounds SO FUN!

HoT is truly amazing! Nerfing every gold method except spread-sheet TP flipping was a great change.

I hope you do know that the only difference between tp flippers/traders and you is the value they sell items for.

All they do is list their items for more gold than you. Thats all.

Yeah, thats a good example of how to make gold with crafting and how to turn your account bound mats (karma) into gold, taking advantage of demand for items used in collections and how to profit from bulk-producing items with high opportunity costs, as people have to port to the vendor to obtain sun beads and they need alot of them to craft the full set, so its alot of clicking.

Anyway, I know whining about it won’t change anything, hence instead of whining, I decided to ask other players what currently the best ways to make gold are (aside from TP flipping).

By far the best alternatives to TP flipping are investing, forging precursors and crafting.

Forging precursors is what I used to do, but took a break from that and crafted myself some ascended armor sets in preparation for HoT’s raids. Now I’m kinda low on gold and low on mats, so that means I’m either gonna have to gather the mats to forge a pre (don’t feel like doing that, but if I really have to) or gather the gold to buy the mats.

Investing is something I’m aware exists, but never really understood how people go about this. Care to explain? Some tips to get a newbie investor started? Feel free to send me a PM with additional info if you’d like. I would really appreciate that.

I probably don’t have the budget to really invest into anything, but it’s something I might wanna try in the future wen I saved up some gold again.

When you say crafting, do you mean crafting ascended mats (like deldrimore and damask)? Or something else?

I forged 20 pres since HoT and made between 300-500g profit per pre, as prices for mats went way down. I expect another flush of mats with wintersday (t5 snowflakes), so you might want to start preparing for that (start crafting mithril plated dowels and weapon components now).

With crafting i dont neccessarily mean ascended mats (but atm give a couple of gold profit, i think, even if you buy the mats for it).

There are plenty of items in demand right now, mostly for guild hall upgrades, basic collections and gear for new alts and players who just hit 80.

I have an ongoing thread about the economy, trading and how i go about investing and making gold in the HoT subforum, where i also answer specific questions from other players. It shoud be on the first page.

It might be a good place to start.

Undercutting the lowest listing by a copper, when selling your loot, instead of selling directly also usually gives you 20-50% gold for your loot.

You could also just list it 20-50% OVER the lowest listing and wait until it sells.

Anyway, I know whining about it won’t change anything, hence instead of whining, I decided to ask other players what currently the best ways to make gold are (aside from TP flipping).

By far the best alternatives to TP flipping are investing, forging precursors and crafting.

Ascended trinkets for new Stats?

Jeweler profession hasnt been raised to level 500 yet, you cant craft the old ascended trinkets either.

The asc trinkets for some new stats are locked behind collections and achievements, i think.

Once you completed those, you can buy additional copies of the trinkets from the laurel vendor.

Nobody is responding because this isnt the bug forum.

Everytime you open the forum overview, you will see an announcement on the right side of the screen. Its there since HoT launch and it says where to exactly post, if you have any issues related to HoT.

Wanderer Prefix Account Bound?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alot of people complained that rewards should be earned and not be able to be bought with gold. So Anet made sure that many desirable items are locked behind achievements, collections or are account bound or use account bound items to craft.

And by doing so killed a potential market for crafters.

They didnt kill it because it never went livei n the first place. There are plenty of opportunities to make way more gold than any farm train can provide.

People always complain that all the evil traders and flippers make so much profit but in the end, crafting is nothing different than complicated flipping and involves alot of trading as well.

However, crafting seems to be a commonly accepted feature to make lots of gold.

IF you put a suggestion forward on the forums to make all account bound currencies tradeable on the TP, i think you wont find alot of support for it because most people dont like the idea that people can just buy everything with their credit card.

Guild-bound Craftable Items

For me it seems you only dont want to spend the mats to level your crafting but still would like to have access to the perks it provides.

Then you read it wrong, he already has a view crafts on 500.

It is all about sharing.
Yes, leveling from 400-500 eats up a lot of resources, but you do it for what? One or two armor sets and a view weapons, only for your character, after that, you don’t need that craft anymore.

The Point of that Guild-Bound System is to make high level crafting useful for more player then just you, give you the opportunity to help others with the results of your hours of work.

But as said, there should still be reasons to level up your crafting yourself eventually, maybe to replace the Guild Smith, for a special Item/Gift or whatever. Maybe limit the stuff one can craft at a “Guild Forge” limited, so you can only make a hand full of stat-sets but not all, or maybe just one, celestial.
There are a lot of clever people here with a lot of ideas to keep the resource and money sink, or even build in more AND make high level crafting more useful.

There is so much to share between guild members, i dont think ascended armor or account bound mats in general should be one of them, just for the sake of being able to share more as it would have too much impact on other parts of the game.

The way you put it sounds like you just don’t want an extra feature in the game. Plenty of similar systems already exist in guild/clan/outfit-based games: Warframe, for instance, has weapons and frames that you could create your own personal clan for and put aaaaaaall the materials into the research for – or you could join a clan of players who all farm up the pieces and chip in. Either way is acceptable and either way directly affects players and gameplay. Ascended equipment in Guild Wars doesn’t have crippling affects on gameplay, so I’m not sure what exactly you mean by “too much impact on other parts of the game”. For a game called “Guild Wars”, not “Craftsmen Wars”, I’d like to see Anet making guild interaction and collaboration and community a focus with increasingly-interesting and evolving features.

A system like this would also encourage the recruitment of new players who are long-standing friends of current players. (Yes, Anet, I just suggested that you could even market the idea. Uhoh.)

I just dont want Anet to burn ressources for a feature that wouldnt make much of a difference for most of the player base. And the problem that OP described can easily be solved with the existing features. If you want to help a guildie craft their own ascended gear, you can support him with mats and advice on how to level their crafting proficiency and you can support him with plenty of tradeable mats to craft their ascended gear.

Account bound items, mats and curriencies are in game for a reason because their neccessity for certain recipes make sure that the payer completes certain content, achievements etc.

Why do you want to complete that content or achievements for them instead of helping them complete it for their own progression?
I think the 2nd option is way more social and embraces a sense of community compared to the first one.

Glacial Imbued Jar Disabled Temporarily

why dont u put this important inforamtion in the patch notes?
im working on frostfang and didnt understand why i couldnt go on.
i had to use google to find this post cause the forum didnt find anythig for “glacial imbued jar”.
when will u enable it again??? and please inform about such things in the patch notes !!!

Its probably because the jar wasnt disabled when a new patch was shipped but inbetween patches.

But i agree, it couldnt hurt to also write it in the next patch note update.
Or create a sticky somewhere, were currently disabled game features are listed and their status updated.

First of all, being able to craft ascended armor is a big incentive for players to level their crafting up to 500.
If players could rely on other players to craft that gear for them, less people would level their crafts to 500. Leveling your craft from 400-500 uses up a nice amount of mats, which now wont be needed anymore, as only a few level it.

Anet would have to account for that loss of material sink, which would probably mean that we will see mat requirements for leveling from 400-500 similar to the mat requirements needed to level scribing, which is so big, that basically many players have to pool their ressources in orderfor one player to level it.

This restricts access to crafting to newer players, which isnt an improvement in my opinion.

There are clear advantages of leveling your own profficiency to 500 and there are plenty of nice guides out there to help you do it.

For me it seems you only dont want to spend the mats to level your crafting but still would like to have access to the perks it provides.

This is a problem that shouldnt be solved by your guild and making mayor adjustments on item bindings.

It is cheating whenever they specifically made Viper’s and Minstrel’s to require an extra component for some reason. This is obviously an oversight on their end.

Considering that the exotic versions also need extra components, i wouldnt call it cheating.

Its badly implemented though.

The exotic insignias don’t require 450 fulgurite =P

but they require extra leather now.

Search up crafting guides and increase your account value by ‘forging’ ascended. How much are we willing to lean on others to accomplish benign personal account/character growth?

You want it. You make it. A guild can send you materials to help. But they won’t give you a shortcut. Earn you stripes.

You do know that in the military, each private does not forge their own rifle from solid cast steel, nor does every airman personally assemble their own jet right? A seaman does not build from scratch each boat in the Navy, etc.

The OP makes a great point. And I’ve seen other games allow players who enjoy crafting to set up shops after a fashion, and can craft items for other players, even traditionally super high end stuff that would be soulbound/accountbound on acquire as it is now in GW2.

His point isn’t to make it easier for everyone to get super high end gear, it was to increase the community and value of guilds in the first place. Having a central armorer would make it slightly quicker to get those items, with of course the bottleneck being that players would still have to farm the raw materials first.

With the advent of raids, the intent of the devs to deconstruct the Zerk meta, the plethora of gear stats AND the cost of individual pieces and sets, what the OP suggests is not only perfectly reasonable, it ends up adding value and longevity as well as a sense of community.

Earn your stripes. LOL. Its a game. Get a grip.

You do know that privates in the army also dont get the best equipment to work with.

Its the same here.
Guild members can craft or buy you everything up to exotic gear and they can give you all the mats you need to level your armorsmith, too.
